This is the worst game I have ever played. It isn't user friendly. It's terrible. I had hopes for it but not after playing. It was a waste of $80.....

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Yeh so i just got this game, installed it a played it annnnd i hated it and i love the Sims franchise i have Sims 1 through to Sims 3 with all expansion packs, and to put it simply, i hate the new Sims they look more unrealistic then they did in 3 and the create a Sim is much more difficult than it should be, i much prefer the sliders like the previous games.Build mode is confusing, boring and difficult to use, your very limited in what actions you can do compared to Sims 3. I much prefer having build mode and buy mode separate. The products they have to put in your home are lacking as i miss cars, garages, laundry, ect. I also miss pools, lakes and the toddler age group, being able to pick 5 traits plus a star sign and lots of different life goals. The maps are highly limited and boring, no good lots, and nothing really that interesting in the towns at all. There's no ghosts no good graves and no free movement within the towns community . like i said i love the Sims but in my opinion they have really screwed up this time, this game is a waste of money. There is nothing good of fun about this game anymore i think i will stick with playing Sims 3, even if it freezes some time its still a much more fun, interesting and engaging game than Sims 4. The Sims 4 has taken two steps forward, and ten steps backward with the changes that they've made. Create a Sim has become far more intuitive and allows for far more customisation than what we've seen before, and that's fantastic. If only we had this level of customisation in TS3, and everyone would be happy.

After you create a Sim and take the first look at the neighbourhood you quickly realise they've taken away one of the best parts of TS3, and that's the open neighbourhood. There are a negligible number of lots, and only *four* community lots, with loading times in between all of them! The biggest appeal of TS3 was the open world, and the ability to create far reaching stories with constant interaction without getting thumped by a loading screen constantly. Sure, at release there were performance issues, but most people have upgraded their PC's to a point where it's not an issue.

Overall, the improvements to this game are negligible, and considering the price point and dearth of content it just isn't worth your time or money.

This game has left me incredibly disappointed. Being a legacy player I really can't get past the lack of toddlers. I love that the babies are clothed, but it just feels incomplete without a toddler in the house.
The emotions system I actually got bored of really quickly. If you regularly speed through the game the emotions won't add much to the gameplay.
    I enjoy the multitasking, but

I was really looking forward to this game so I'm sad that it has fallen short of what I expected out of a Sims game. I'll be taking advantage of the 24 hour return policy on Origin.

It's already unforgivable that EA simply relies on 1000 expansion packs even before the release. They've been using the fan community as cashcows for long enough now and it's time the tables turned. On top of that is the ridicilous price for this buggy, content lacking game, and of course the price for the 1000 upcoming expansion packs. Somehow, in the past, people seemed to forget that you deserve a full, worthy videogame for your hard earned bucks. It's evident that EA doesn't even try to make the best game ever with The Sims 4, they're just relying on the expansion packs beforehand. It makes me sick and it's time that another developer takes over The Sims. A developer that really wants to make the best, a worthy, fun, rich Sims game they can make.

The time of your cashcow model is over EA.

The Sims 1 to Sims 2 boasted a very impressive change from 2D to 3D. The Sims 2 to Sims 3 boasted an open-world experience with endless customization options. The Sims 3 to Sims 4?

Want toddlers or pools? Let us drain every penny from our cash cow first, that'll work."

When the game started, it was all white... everything was different. I was like : oh nice, this is new. Then I created my Sim and finally started to play... my first thought was : man this look exactly like the Sims 2. The graphics are awful and I run in Ultra mode. It is just like in the past! And then, I was like : well, emotions must be pretty nice... but after some time, I realized that it was nothing new. We already had it in the Sims 3, but under another name. It was the mood. Not this detailed, but still the same thing. When the Sim was it a bad mood, it was impossible to make it do something, just like the Sims 4.

I really don't like this game. The waiting time when you change lot are awful. What is that? WHY? I had all expansions of the Sims 3 on my laptop and It was as fast as the empty Sims 4... I won't buy it. This is scrap with a lot of thing missing. I'm not talking about the expansions of the last opus, but about things that were with the last bases games. I have been a fan of The Sims since the first opus. Not anymore.

Why on earth would anybody give this game a 10? They must either work for EA or just be a complete fool.

How is it possible for the developer to entirely lack the majority of features that made Sims 3 or even Sims 2 a decent game? It's simply inconceivable to me how they can plop this giant pile of **** out with a sixty buck price tag.

Emotions which add so very little to gameplay have replaced staple objects- cars, toddlers, swimming pools. There is a very limited amount of personalisation which can be performed. All in all, this game stinks of a vehicle for either a mobile port, or endless extremely expensive expansion packs. I want to point out a key point 'whichever comes first' in the policy. Which means if you want your TS4 to be refunded you shouldn't have launched it at all in your pc otherwise you can only within 24 hrs.

Or so I was told. Because as a not 1st language English speaker missed that "whichever comes first" point or not quite understood its meaning.

This is by far, the MOST DISAPPOINTING game of my life.
As a hardcore Sims 1, 2 and 3 player, I feel offended by this game.
It's not The Sims anymore, you can change this name to any other crap. The only cool thing is editing Sims' bodies at Create-A-Sim, but everything else was downgraded. -No Create-A-Style (come on!) -No Open World (come on!) -No interactions with babies

This is just so bad that it doesn't even deserve a review.

Normally games about double their content/graphics/AI ect. after about 2 years, not half it for every 1.
It is extremely unlikely I will ever buy a new sims game, and after the mess that was Simcity, nor will I even look at another EA game.

Wow, for the price that EA asks this game has absolutely NOTHING. So little to do, so disappointing, and less freedom than in previous Sims games, I hope they release expansions quicker than they did with earlier parts because this game has like nothing in it.

Let it be said that I have been here since the very first Sims game was made. I've seen EA develop and learn many things over the years. This game is only more proof of what we feared, taking from the base game to add to expansion packs.

    Pros:
    1. Beautiful game. A mixture of Sims 2 and Sims 3 graphics. It was obviously trying to make everyone happy with the formula of realisim and cartoonism.
    2. Create-A-Sim has mindblowing mechanics. Being able to push and pull at any part of my Sim's body was heavily amusing.
    3. The Sims AI's have been tweaked. They can multi-task, hold multiple conversations at once, and show emotion.
    4. The new build system. It's quick, easy, and barely time consuming. Beautiful homes can be created with little stress.
    5. Gameplay is smooth and runs much better than the Sims 3.

    Cons:
    1. Again, weather fails to make an appearance in the base game. No rain, no snow, no hail, no anything of the sort.
    2. Toddlers were ripped from the game completely. Newborn babies suddenly turn into a child.
    3. Swimming pools were torn from us as well. No more drowning our hated Sims.
    4. Open world was completely removed. To get to a destination, you must use the travel option on your phone.
    5. No vehicles of any sort.
    6. Hospitals, work buildings, and schools are completely gone. The game is a giant rabbit hole, very much like the Sims 2.
    7. Loading this, loading that. Constant loading wherever you want to go. (I just keep my Sims in the house!)
    8. Base game is very small. There is a lack of activities, a lack of consequences for actions, and overall story development seems to be completely missing. The amount of clothing in the game is pathetic.
    9. Our customization has been dumbed down once again. There is no longer a create-a-style option. You're forced with EA's handpicked colors for furniture and walls. Even a color wheel would have been acceptable.
    10. The skills take ages to develop. You find yourself almost constantly having to worry about your Sim's needs. Especially in public. There is no time to reach their job requirements and their aspirations. Majority of the time spent playing will be spent messing with their moodlets. (Unless you get fed up and cheat, as I did.)
    11. Forced online game installation. You must have a high speed internet connection for the Origin program, or it will claim you're offline and refuse to install the game.
    12. You're forced to play in only two "worlds". Both of which are ridiculously tiny, very little room to create tons of families.
    13. Camera controls are glitchy and slow. Edge scrolling has never been more painful.
    14. There is nothing new or unique about this game. Multi-tasking is the only evolutionary thing this game has to offer.
    15. Sims die very easily. You can laugh to death, or cry to death. Go figure.
    16. A total of 12 hours worth of playtime. By then you have seen everything or done everything there is to do.
    17. Items we have always had in previous games are completely missing without any explanation. EA blames their "new game engine".
    18. The game will soon have to bare with however many glitchy expansion packs EA will decide to release in the near future.

Within the first twelve hours of gameplay, I have already come upon a few bugs:
    1. The loading screen music is constantly playing in the background in all of my saves. Had to mute the game's music.
    2. I adopted a girl and it suddenly became my Sim's sister. (and my husband's daughter. Figure that one out.)
    3. THE SIMS REFUSE TO CLEAN UP THE DIRTY DISHES. They will pick up a plate and hold it for a few seconds before putting it right back down. (I have found that having the game on normal speed will correct the issue in some instances.)
    4. The sliders in CAS will sometimes bug, and completely alter something. (One time I was editing my Sim's eyebrows and their eyes got really wide. It acted like I was using both of the sliders. The undo button did not correct the issue.)
The patches are not fast enough to compensate for the amount of issues. Simple things slipped right past EA's testing.

In conclusion, stay with The Sims 3, 2 and 1 for now. We'll see what direction EA decides to go in after these reviews.

After a very annoying day-one update (I live in South-Africa where the internet sucks) I finally launched the game. I was thrown into the create a sim, and realized right there. This game is not Sims. Where is the realism in the look of hair? Where was the intuitive creation mode? I had fun figuring out the creation process and was finally done.

Then I had to pick a house. WTF? Where is the town? A few little houses and a bar and gym? Where is the town hall? Where is the police station? Where is the game I paid for? Not only is the town tiny, suddenly there is a load screen while 'Travelling' and the open-world is gone. The content is pathetic and the customization of item colours is basic.

Overall, this feels like a skeleton of a game that will force people too spend hundreds on expansions. EA you greedy bastards. This was the only money I will spend on Sims 4. From here on out, I will pirate the game! This is the reward I get for spending R700 on this game? I encourage everyone to pirate this game because EA needs to learn that the people that buy games, won't pay for a skeleton and then keep paying to bulk it out.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. EA, What Are You Doing!?

I'll start off by summing my grievances up really quick: the best features of The Sims 4 could have simply been patched into The Sims 3. Better controls in Create-A-Sim, the new Build Mode, the Multi-tasking, the Emotions are interesting and desirable features. Upgrades and patches at best. Not worth the years of hype and excitement and certainly not worth $60-$80 users have been paying for a bare bones letdown. (All of these scores of 10-8 I've been seeing? I'll generously assume that you're unfamiliar with The Sims games 1-3 or you're just being Sweethearts. Just a sweet heart doesn't get the truth out to EA. Call me Crucial, but a 3 is way too high a score.)

Why does Origin have so much control over product I worked and paid for? Why do I HAVE to be on-line to play a game I used to play off-line!? I want the option to do either. On days with really bad weather, sometimes I played The Sims because I couldn't get online. Sometimes when I would travel, I would whip out my notebook to pass some time because there was No Internet Access. I spent $80+ so you can tell me when I can and can't play? Are you Serious? If that's not supposed to be the case then my game has a serious bug.

I can't explore the World because there is no "World". Just lots that are so limited and small, the game is empty. There is no challenge to get to the "cool jobs" so the cool jobs aren' t cool, just cheesy. The game is so kiddie now. (Mommy, that's what I want to do when I grow up! Make a Mess, just like EA!) Jobs like Astronaut and Secret Agent should be over-the-top rewards for progressing, right? Something rare that not everyone chooses to reach for, so its special.

    HMMM.... What Else Is Missing?
The Styling Tool everyone is addicted to! Where's the creative freedom?!
No Toddlers? I really LIKED the Toddlers so don't get me started. Doesn't seem like you can create an actual lineage. (Even if you could, where would you put them?) I even wasted money on the Official Game Guide. Get this Readers: you don't catch the carpool to work, you transport and sit bored until your Sim returns. You can't even look at their needs. I don't even see cars and bikes for individual families. Another Stuff Pack. Anyway, you don't have to go to any stores for recipes, food, books or music. (I don't want my Sim to have THAT much convenience! I Want to get them out of the house for that. At least make my loners shop online! They're Sims, as in "simulation" of humans, right? Charge them S&H like us! No, I take that part back...) Anyway, no more classes for skills, no movies, no concerts, no ball games, no swimming in pools, beaches,or oceans; no diners and restaurants, no variety in night life or work life. Even the Repo Man and Burglars are out of the picture. (I LIKED sending my Sim to have a night on the town and running in to relatives accidentally. I enjoyed hubby beating up the burglar and getting extra WooHoo. Letting Snobbish former-rich Sims feel the pain of poverty as the Repo Man dawns their doorstep is funny. I think if you don't pay your bills in the game, the power should shut off like in The Sims 4. If you wait too long you Still should face the Repo Man.) The game is totally stripped. Just change the name so The Sims franchise can save face.

If I wanted to play a sucky version of The Sims 2, I wouldn't have bought The Sims 3 AND the down-loadable content (dlc) AND the expansion packs AND the stuff packs. The Sims 2 had more features starting off than this sorry excuse for entertainment anyway.

Obviously, this lack of content and piss poor game play is a ploy to grossly exploit consumers as EA milks our pockets by charging big bucks for expansion packs, stuff packs, and dlc. It's business, I get it. At least make the game so intriguing and fun that we can't wait for the next package and download instead of frustrating so many people. I agree with CypherDivine:

"Used to be "EA games, challenge everything" now it's "EA games, charge everything" "

I have enjoyed The Sims 1-3 since I was a kid. A preteen, actually. Now as I try to climb a career to increase my meager income to something I consider to be "gainful", I don't enjoy wasting my money. If I get something, its because I think it will be good and I'll enjoy it for a while.

Again Readers, The Game Is Not Worth $60-$80! In comparison to it's predecessors, its worthless. So before charging us consumers for endless "packs" and downloads, I wish EA would do something about it. Unlikely, huh? I want to tell EA, what are you doing? Even though I doubt EA will ever see this, I hope someone will take note. I never heard of MetaCritic until I felt like searching to see if others felt like I did. I made this account just to let anyone who can do anything know how dissatisfied and disgusted I am. I'm actually more insulted than anything. At this moment EA and The Sims 4 has really put a bad taste in my mouth.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I've been playing The Sims since the very first day that The Sims came out. When The Sims 2 was introduced I thought it was a step up and very enjoyable as for The Sims 3 as well. However I have to agree with majority of people who think The Sims 4 is step down and a huge disappointment. It's plain looking and flat out boring.

In The Sims 4 they really took a lot away from the game. "Bigger personalities and possibilities?" More like less traits, less personality aspects and fewer possibilities. How can the sim be weirder or have bigger personality's when you have less than 5 traits you can have, you can't have favorite music, colors, or anything like that. Also what possibilities? There is NO TRUE neighborhood or places to go and it's more like a game app with small challenges like play a game for 4 hours. How lame is that?

    Where do I began?
Starters the Main Menu sucks. It's a mess. Files for saved games? Are you kidding. I have 6 files for ONE game and I never know which one to play. When someone else gets on to play it just seems to mess up my game and start me over. Very unorganized and hard to understand and very easy to screw up other peoples saved games.

2nd sure you can make your sim super skinny or have fat legs or little feet but you can't manipulate features like on The Sims 3. Also I wish there was an actual menu for things instead of having to click on the shirt or pants to view the clothes. They took away a lot of stuff too like favorites and the color wheel, ect.

When in build/buy mode I find it very hard to use or find things and the tools are all scattered. Again its a mess. And don't get me started about how hard and annoying it is to scroll and rotate around the screen to view the house or sims.

When playing the game there's nothing to really do besides pee, eat, and sleep. There is nothing to see, go to, or any true challenges to accomplish or fun task to do. Even gardening is stupid now. There is no collecting things either as far as I know of.
My sims only seem to need to pee!!!!!! I can't even experience everything without it going half way to the needs then going down as quick as a blink of an eye after the half way point. And what's up with the needs being some random box that's annoying at the corner of the screen blocking the side view?

You can't even edit your town or get a bigger lot or place lots. EVERTHING IS SO LIMITED!!!!!!! You can't even move a house you like to a bigger lot. Another big thing that got me is no toddlers. Really? This is A LIFE GAME. It's about raising a family and taking care of them. I agree with a lot of people, this game is more like Sims 2.5! IF YOU MAKE A GAME YOU SHOULD ONLY ADD TO IT NOT TAKE EVERY SINGLE MAJOR THING AWAY FROM IT. SMH. IM VERY UPSET TO HAVE WASTED 80 BUCKS ON THIS GAME.

I was devoted to the creative elements of the previous series however, despite the fact Create a Sim has improved the actual items and textures available to decorate / furnish rooms is so limited it's almost impossible to get a truly unique look.

The game has "improved" graphics however to me it looks like plastic.

Under developed, missing features and rushed development makes this game terrible. I am taking full advantage of EA's money back refund policy and getting a refund for this terrible product.

Sims 4 is a highly watered down version of what i used to love. I cant get into caring about my sims. Nothing i do make any real difference and they do really nothing unique unless i tell them to.

Loading is all over the place and it kills it for me. They told us about neighborhoods but i did NOT think that meant load times to walk to my next door neighbors house! The towns themselves are decimated and about 1/3 the size they used to be... if even that.

Then comes customization! At this point, i feel totally fine saying there is really none to be had. You are limited to their choices in colors and styles for everything for you hair and eyes, to you clothes, your furniture, your walls, appliances... everything really. I dont like a lot of their pre-set options either. The very least I am done playing this game until Create-a-Style comes back. Its not Sims without customization. Anyone else remember 1 and 2? you could make your own MODELS for furniture and other things and import completely new items into the game. Sims 3 irritated me at first with the removal of that ability but from a business stance i understood.. And sims 3 did provided many in game ways to still make their models look the way you wanted them too through color and pattern. Now i cant even kind of do that.

Simulation games have so much more computing power to play with in today's general home set-ups. EA's decision to takes 10 giant steps backwards as far as game features in Sims 4 just rankles and smacks of shady business practices. I'm sure an expansion will come out with more customization options that will cost another $40. This is something the sims series has done each round... remove standard features and re-introduce them as expansions... but this is hitting the limit of my tolerance.

There are so many things that I dislike about this game! I am an AVID sims player, and have played since the sims 1 first came out. I literally play every day. EVERY DAY. That being said, this game is a giant bucket of poop. For $70 (more than any other sims game) I expected so much more.

One thing that I heard was rumors about them FINALLY adding was a height adjustment tool in CAS.

One thing that I heard was rumors about them FINALLY adding was a height adjustment tool in CAS. This has been an extremely annoying aspect ever since I can remember. It bothers me so much when my female sims are larger than males.... which every female is in the sims 4 so far, regardless of their weight.

I did enjoy the new features of CAS, but once I got started with the gameplay, I was extremely disappointed. I've only played for a few days, and I feel like I have done everything possible in the game. Things like careers and the travel remind me of the sims 2, which is a huge bummer. The babies SUCK, and remind me of the sims 1... because they are objects that you can only interact with through the crib.

My favorite part of the sims has always been the building and customizing. This is virtually gone, just as in the sims 2. Create a style was the best part of the build/buy mode on TS3, and they took that away too (classic EA). There are basically 3 style options: mission, victorian, and modern. You want different styles for different households? Too bad.

The emotions are basically the same thing as the moodlets from the sims 3, except for the special social interactions. I was intrigued at first, but the emotions just got annoying after about an hour of playing. Emotions are not why people play the sims.... It just isn't. Also, the fact that you can walk up to your partner in ANY mood and still WooHoo out of nowhere is completely unrealistic.

Another thing that I hate is the lack of diversity in terms of how to kill your sim. My sim died from embarrassment after peeing herself.... I mean, really?

I could go on for days about the list of objects missing from the sims 3, but that would be a waste of time. I can't wait to spend hundreds of dollars on DLC.... Don't waste your money (at least not until there are expansion packs).

I looked forward to Sims 4 - knowing that toddlers have been wiped from the face of the earth (is this a Freudian decision on the part of parents of toddlers?) but hoping that the flexibility of Sims 2 would be restored.
As it is, Sims 4 has created a record. I picked up my copy at 17.30 today. Installed it. Loaded it. Created a family and a house. And logged off at 18.45.
Possibly the lack of documentation or anything remotely useful in the ReadMe file is a handicap. The tutorial irritated by telling me what, by accident, I seemed to be trying to achieve - but how do I find out what there is to achieve?
Also, I live in a multilingual household: what happened to the option to instal in a language other than US English?
The only plus over previous Sims offerings that I have discovered is that I can play on my laptop when I'm away from home without having the single DVD drive occupied by a Sims disk, allowing me to listen to my choice of music while playing instead of having to make do with whatever radio is available.
At least, it will be a plus if, in due course, I find some reason to play Sims 4 again.

Because you can forget controlling 2 sims at different locations at once. Also very unimpressed with the new AI of the new sims. The new mood system adds little or nothing to the game.

End result: Looks VERY nice. But gameplay is ruined.

I built my own rig just to be able to play the Sims 3 "on the performance level it deserves to be played." It is a glorious PC, but it still cannot fully stand the stress the Sims 3 puts on it. I thought the Sims 4 would be different, but after 60 hours of game play it too lags and twitches and slowly begins to murder my PC. I am sure I am not alone here.

I would be so incredibly ashamed of myself if I was an employee of Maxis, EA or even Origin. The fact that this game was released prior to being ready for the gaming public (it seems every generation's release follows this pattern) is beyond criminal. These companies take FULL advantage of simmers who live and breath the game no matter the glitches and the quality they must suffer.

Now the 7 day refund game guarantee window has closed. The money I have spent over the years supporting this game is such a despicable thing. The money and time we have ALL spent on this game is a disgrace.

After 60 hours playing the Sims 4- the family growth, career development, home upgrades, special objects obtained, to start from the bottom again. It is exasperating. This game is a sad, disappointing thing, and I am defeated. I quit. Congratulations EA, Maxis, and everyone involved in this grand scheme. You win.

First I will say I had always been a Sims fan. I've played them all. I even bought Sims 2 and 3 the day they had come out. I played them for hours and hours on end, rarely ever getting bored.

The first hour of me playing Sims 4, I already had become so bored with it and left feeling completely disappointed. I was looking forward to the game, ever since it had first been announced them making a 4th installment to the Sims.

Ever since Sims 2 had come out, my favorite aspect has always been toddlers. I loved having my female sims get pregnant and raising their babies. I loved the family side of the game. Actually, just a month ago I was explaining to my husband about the Sims games and how far they had come with it, explaining how silly the infants were in Sims 1. Then what do I find out they did with Sims 4? They made the babies like Sims 1! Right when I thought I couldn't have been more disappointed with Sims 4, I learned about the downgraded infants...then right after I find out about the toddler cut. I love the toddlers as many people do. I can understand some people not liking the toddler stage in Sims, but EA could have made that more flexible in Sims 4 by being able to remove the toddler stage.. perhaps near where you can turn off aging? They had some nerve taking out toddlers altogether!

Another favorite aspect of mine in Sims 3 (which Sims 4 does not have) is story progression. In Sims 3, I loved creating a family, sticking them in a house, then forgetting about them as I played another household and then checking what the family I forgot about was up to, if the original couple I made got a divorce, if they had kids, what jobs they ended up getting, ect.

The load time SUCKS. I know the load time isn't long, but it still sucks. It's just another thing to make Sims 4 feel so much more limited than Sims 3. (Keep in mind, I remember Sims 3 vanilla days as I bought it when it first came out). I miss the open world in Sims 3!

I also don't like that they took out the style and color table tools.

Now the couple things I did like...

I liked what they did with create a sim. It was a bit awkward at first compared to what I was use to with Sims, but once I started to play with it, it grew on me. Again, the only thing I find it lacking is the style/color tools. Overall, I still had fun creating my sims.

The build mode was nice, I do love what they did with it. It still wasn't enough to win me over (none of it was) as I've always been okay with the building aspect of Sims 3.

I also love how much the Sims multi-task compared to any other Sims game.

That's really the only positive things I have to say about Sims 4... and I would have rather have paid to have the features I did like, into my Sims 3 because I won't be playing the Sims 4... not unless EA find a way to make up for this crappy game by giving us the features we miss!

I don't know how they will ever be able to give us open worlds again. Maybe when they make new neighborhoods, they can make some of them be like the open neighborhoods... but I won't count on it.

The Sims 4 is more like Sims 1 and 2 combo with a couple cool features, but not enough cool features to keep you in the groove when playing.

I hate to say it, but you really screwed up EA! I sure hope you find a way to fix this. If not, I will just keep continuing to play The Sims 3 which I'm more than fine with. I still have a blast when playing Sims 3, unlike I do with SIms 4.

I bought this game with an expectation that it was going to be a liberating experience, but all I've seen is limits and loading screens, let me live a little! the only two things that they did improve is the multitasking and building, which really could have been added to the Sims 3 in a patch, they're not that complex to make. and emotions.... what's the point

Sims can actively woohoo/kiss/flirt with one partner (i.e. a second girlfriend) in front of their wife/girlfriend/whatever, and there is no reaction from the other sim. Not even a decrease in relationship points like in the sims 1!!!! Thats BEYOND perplexing and confusing for me and ruined the game for me.

Build mode is very nice but thats about it, for us players who prefer to focus on the live section/part of the game, it sucks...

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For realz? This game is so bad in comparison. Yes while the sims 3 had issues with compatibility, it seems like they had a new crew and decided to completely restart the image?

A new boss who thought he knew everything? Common I was so excited for the sims 4. I've already bought a lot of the other versions of the sims 3.

The game feels like the sims 1 with major improvements from the other games. They've improved the stylization of sims how to customize them their looks, and anything about them. MAXIS changed the personalities really well, I felt like the game STARTS like it will look out great. While they improved a lot of the issues that you spend a lot of time on the game itself removes the silly reasons why you play. Like you have 20 half sibling families and the structures get hectic and then you have to suddenly get 200 sims through college some are abducted and then some die and you end up with like 100 of them throughout the game you might end up with 50 and then the extended families of cousins eventually merge like 2nd cousins. It's weird, but it's mostly social experiments. It also shows you why in real society things are best kept as is->. Sometimes it's just the Katie Perry Music.

Now The sims 4 has basically the sims 1 esque loading screen less wait times. (I had 20 minute loading screens.) Yes that was annoying but when the game was working in sims 3 it was fun. Now in Sims 4 it's something like huh? Ok they're talking. I might put it down and go talk to some people like a normal non-creepy human. It's 3 no 4 steps forward 20 steps back. There's no swimming pools no swimwear, no reason for your sims to get buff.

Jobs are out. Who needs jobs?

THEY EVEN TOOK OUT Mac versions. Macs are way better in the sims because the game was based around Mac type games that's where Maxis' roots are Max/Mac Get it? Now EA stripped the title of everything. I feel the sims 5 will come out soon. No joke. The game should have the basic gameplay of sims 3. I now have to bootcamp to play the game. Not only did you basically make one fan base mad the modding community which is huge, you also took out anyone who had a MAC which is two strikes….

What the sims 4 did fix is the customization of some irritations of the fans that made it easier to create. However also in doing so defeated some of the challenges of creating homes and now it feels like a dollhouse game more then a social experiment. My brother became a architect because of the sims 1 and 2. And now it's just a click of a button. I feel that's the future of architecture anyway but this game seriously took out a lot of the issues while at the same time knocking out the purpose of learning how things are semi-built.
There's limited selection on colors, and they took out the user made creations because people would 'mod' the sims. There's hundreds of websites non-sim related because the sims series was so involved around creation. Without that they lost their fan-base. Buying sims downloads and options feels like a Facebook game. Like my friend Admiral Akbar would say "IT's a trap!"

I typically would try and remotely give this a nice score but they probably expected fans would like the new features at the expense of loosing 'some minor content' is a blatant lie almost false advertising. (but it's not because they said they would remove some things.) And the fact some of the city life structure and chaos of so many sims running around looses a lot of the entertainment value. It looses some of the hard parts of the game. These metacritics are being nice giving it a 70.

Every Sims release (until now) has been strides ahead of the previous version. DLCs aside, it was very easy to tell that Sims 3 was far ahead of Sims 2. The open world offered a level of exploration and customization that was absolutely unprecedented. Create a Style allowed you to make anything fit in exactly how you chose. There was no debate about whether the base game was an improvement over Sims 2.

Now, to Sims 4. Gone is the open world, rather we are stuck with a district consisting of a handful of houses. It is a small handful at that. Want to visit a neighbor's house in the same district? Loading screen. Want to visit some random place on the map? Nope. All the while, other sims are free to roam past your lot, which seems to have more foot traffic than a park in London. Toddlers and pools are gone, which I was actually okay with, it's the other features, included in the base game of Sims 3, that put me a bit off. Create a Style is gone, revert back to the Sims 2 style of presets. Ponds and water are gone. Want to go fishing in the comfort of your backyard? Nope, you've been reduced to fishing and signposts. Along with ponds, changes in elevation are gone. The elevation tools allowed you to create massive castles, towering over the town, surveying all those beneath you. Basements are also nowhere to be found. Entire houses could be create under the earth in a seemingly empty lot. It seems the days of real creativity in designing your home are lost.

Now to the performance. It is pretty clear that Sims 4 does run smoother than Sims 3, but is the cost really worth it? Below are a few factors that most certainly contribute to it running better:
    - No open world
    - Smaller lots
    - No Create a Style
    - No elevations
Do the loss of these basic features for the gain of a bit of performance really make it a better game?

Now for why I gave it a 0 instead of 3 or something... Too many reviews on this site (from those rating the game favorable to a point that is worthy of ridicule) make accusations against those who've rated it poorly. Rating it against Sims 3 w/ DLCs, don't like change, never actually purchased it, these are all things I've read in positive reviews. As a fan of The Sims since the original release, I am disappointed with this most recent installment.

A devolution of The Sims, and the worst base game of The Sims since its debut 14 years ago. Lacking integral base game features, which we can count on EA only selling back to us later at an even higher premium. Blatant greed. Instead of improving existing features, EA just cut them. Lazy. Not acceptable for an informed consumer like myself.

A base game should be fun and enjoyable and not feel so empty and lacking and not need eps that end up costing a lot. And because of being so bland I wont be spending another $ on Sims 4 and I worked out all EP's game and stuff packs bought at full price cost $910AUD total. I could buy so many good complete games for that price.

A EP should enhance and add to the game play not make the game feel boring and unplayable without it.

I bought sims 3 Ep's most at full price and didn't mind as I enjoy the game so much.

The only good thing is the game doesn't crash at all.

I wanted black curtains for my emo sim but nope that is not an option, it's so limited I can't make and decorate the house the way I want. And you can't play multiple sims efficiently. I wanted to have 1 sim stay at home and write books while I sent the other sim off to make friends. But nope when you go somewhere else the sims at home stop doing what you assigned them to do and are instead wasting time watching TV.

You have to keep your sims all together to be able to control them all.

So many steps back. There is so much I miss from Sims 3, the open world, CAS, vehicles, horses being able to control multiple sims at different locations at the same time, story progression.

    Never played the first sims.

    Sims 2 was alright.

Still absolutely love sims 3 and it's the only one worth playing and bought every EP for it. And will still keep playing it.

Sims 4 is not even as good as sims 2 and will not buy any more ep's for it as it's not going to change what I hate about it. Not going to play it again.

Terrible money grabbing game that is not fun and so much content needed to buy that should be in the game already. It doesn't even deserve a 1.

This game is just way too expensive for it's level of quality and overhyped. This game is really gimmicky because as of now it costs $59.99 (all before tax) or $69.99 for a couple of extra items. You can also buy Sims 4 headphones that actually have a color wheel (unlike the game), a Sims 4 mouse and a strategy guidebook. You can also opt for the collector's edition which ranges from $79.99 to over $100 depending on where you want to buy it. Those are some pretty steep prices for a game that lacks toddlers, llamas, color wheels, swimming pools and general intelligence. You can have an affair with everybody on the Sims 4 and no one cares. Firefighters and police have been removed from the game as well as family trees. The game is also becoming less tangible, more digital and the game seems more like the kind of game you would find on a mobile phone or an MMO. This game is a lower quality than it's predecessor the Sims 3 because it is missing many features and has less customization options. This whole game is just marketing research, it is just designed to be addicting and leave people unfilled so they will want to buy more. Don't even both trying out the sample or buying the game. It is way too expensive, is lacking a ton of features and overall just feels very low quality and contains a lot of glitches (Sims walking through doors,) This review recommends to stay away from this game and please for the love of God, stay away from this company. My bookworm Sim won't read any longer than half an hour at a time. I like how you can have more interaction with the baby, but I really miss the toddler stage. In fact it is less user friendly and I could type an entire book on what was the last freaking straw with this game but I already tried and ran out of room. In short, new goofy walks and facial expressions make for a more enriching and realistic experience NOT. So they can do some multi tasking now. That was kind of nice. And certain activities like dating, now include goals you can complete and earn trophies. That was fun. When I discovered that weddings also have goals (activities with goals are timed btw which in it self is fine) I thought that would be cool too. But come to find out, if you do one of the goals first instead of last (the ceremony of taking the vows) it ends the wedding and you no longer have any opportunity to complete the other goals, and the game gives no indication of this. There where many other problems and set backs with the wedding, but the worst was when I finally got everything right (or so I thought) painstakingly went to all this trouble, and after the vows, I'm launched into another screen which asks you who lives with who. I thought I was choosing to have my sim move into her new husbands household, but no nothing that simple. The game then takes me to a view of the town. WTF? I thought I was moving in with husband? Guess not, it wants me to choose a house. But no empty houses are available. Finally I figure out I can evict sims currently living in a house, which I do but guess what? The game wants me to create a new household, Doesn't give an option to move in the household I was JUST playing. Also there is no way to back out of this screen and get back to the game. Finally I go back into my library, reselect the sim I was playing seconds before, I than choose the house she already lives in to make my life easier and have them move in. Instead of going back to the wedding ceremony I was just in, it takes me directly to my sims house, which is now EMPTY of all furniture and belongings, and my sim is somehow late for work. And on top of all that, I never even got the flipping trophy I worked so hard for! UGGHHHHHH! Not user friendly AT ALL. This game, all in all, lacks the humor and creativity of the previous, and its all very...compartmentalized. I don't know how else to describe it. It should replace sims 3, I should be playing the new sims and not even thinking of 3, but I did nothing but think of it the entire time. It's a RIP OFF! I am getting my money back. Expand

This game sucked. EA took everything out and is going to make you buy it all again. For $80 I should have gotten everything or the ability to make anything and not have to buy expansion packs. I took it back and I won't be buying it again at a later date. Good riddens to bad rubbish. If you are thinking about buying it, don't save your money for other, better games.

Another let down from EA. Sims 4 lacks in content which will be sure given to you by infamous DLCs that EA likes to take your money with. Freedom and options are taken away from you with this game and Sims 3 was so much better compared to this.

Outcome: Do NOT buy this game before they have fixed everything.

Don't trust any review that rates this game over a 5. This game, and the reboot of Sim City represent the dying days of EA and Maxis. I didn't think it was possible for the old EA games to be better than the new releases, but that is the case. EA did very little to update the Sims. The newest Sim City is a trainwreck, with very small towns that have less area than the original sim city.

Yet another example of EA's greed when it comes to gaming, buy the sims 3 if you want a good life sim game the only thing sims 4 adds is certain moods and when you're in those moods you do certain things like "take an angry poop" not very original EA. In fact I wouldn't buy from this company at all after everything they've done to the industry. 1/10 introduces some ok features but leaves out core gameplay and also why the hell isn't it a connected world? Loading screens between everywhere you go isn't necessary even with the updated graphics.

The Sims 4 is the worst game I've ever played in my life. Okay, not really. But it was a MAJOR disappointment. I say "was" because I returned it for a refund. This is the first and only time a game was so bad that I actually took it back. So I suppose in a way maybe it IS the worst game I've ever played.

First SimCity and now this. Well done, EA..... Way to ruin two of the most

First SimCity and now this. Well done, EA..... Way to ruin two of the most successful video game series of all time. Missing features and a fatally restrictive ingame world are becoming hallmarks of EA's new releases. It's one flop after another, and they don't care because they know they'll make money regardless.... EA is like the Nicholas Cage of the video game industry.

Who knows, maybe things will turn around in a few years with The Sims 5. That's if EA hasn't already killed the franchise.

One thing EA did not do that terribly on is with the new create a sim which is one of the only things you can see an improvement in but even so, I feel restricted on what I can do since I can no longer edit items to how I please which, for me, takes the whole fun out of the creative process since it was the editing tool which I used so much of in sims 3.

Gameplay is bleak and boring, no open world anymore so we have to wait for those irritating and boring waiting screens before it loads and since the buildings have so little to do in them, within five minutes I find myself moving to another building and waiting frustratingly for another loading screen to end.
Careers are far worse then before with less choice and less opportunities whilst in those professions it really makes such a big part of the game boring and non-interactive. Well done ea, it feels as if I'm replaying sims 2 again and not in a good way.

Emotions are a good feature but as much as everyone seems to like this idea, it bothers me some. It grew irritating fast and I found the emotions feature more bothersome then enjoyable.

Building is a good added feature but since the game is such a let down it really makes little difference whether I can make a house quicker or not.

Overall if you are thinking about purchasing this game, from my own opinion just don't. If you're new to the world of the sims, buy sims 3. Heck even buy sims 2. Sims 4 is a rip-off for its money and due to how big the game is now, I wouldn't even buy it for half the price after having played it. This is the only sims game that I have bought, played for an hour and turned it off when I could have played the game for days on end. I hope EA do something spectacular to makeup for the disappointment of this game. In fact, I hope they burn the sims 4 and just skip onto a sims 5 with open world and all of these fantastic features I loved so much in the sims 3.
Even though it hurts to find out the good, the positives are the new create-a-sim and build mode but these factors alone cannot create a good game.

I was expecting to get excited and that they would have major changes... but totally obtainable since Sims is all about changing how you look at games and pushing the limits... or at least they use to be.

These are things I was expecting:
1.) Rabbit holes are now accessible and you can follow your Sims into cafe, work and school.
2.) Sims look realistic and have a height slider.
    3.) Neighborhoods can be connected.
4.) Toddlers can go to daycare and preschool.
5.) Weather is included in base game.
6.) You can create your own patterns for CAS in-game.
7.) You can place hats, boots and jackets over your Sims' clothes.
8.) Aliens in the base game
9.) Sims can multi-task better. Ex. Can talk and exercise at the same time.

These are things I wanted, but wasn't expecting.
    1.) More traits.
2.) You can design your own neighborhood in-game with terrain paints, etc.
3.) Lots have a snap-to-grid feature for easier placing so you can connect them to roads easier.
    4.) Neighborhoods can be bigger.
5.) An expansion pack where you can visit the aliens' Home world.
6.) You can choose to make totally empty worlds, like in Sims 2.
7.) Can delete custom content in-game.
8.) Your Sims' hair grows and they can visit barber shops.
9.) Males have the option to take off their shirt when they get hot or sweaty at the gym. More realistic.

But this... this is just sad. This is worse than Sims 1. I would play Sims 1 before Sims 4. It feels like they're destroying one of my favorite franchises... like Mass Effect 3. This to me is not playable. I would rather have them work on the game for two more years than release it as it is, but my dad tells me it's not fixable and that they should just scrap it and start from the beginning. That Sims 4 is unredeemable. Now I'm just worried that there won't be a Sims 5 or worse... that there will be and it will be total crap.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As an avid simmer, this game was something I looked forward to since the announcement of its release. Having as much experience as I do with The Sims and EA, I expected great things from this game. Unfortunately, this game has been nothing short of a disappointment. With the additions of loading screens each time a sim leaves their home lot, it feels much less communal and the fact that there are only two defined "hangout" spots in the game does not help. The over rated Create A Sim features in this game are indeed different and put the sims in a brand new light, but the personalization does not change the fact that the sims look like characters from a Saturday morning cartoon. Unlike The Sims 3, the sims look lifeless and are now much less relatable. The feature I have found the most over rated has to be the emotions. Although it is nice that actions do effect my sims' moods, they are simply renamed versions of the moodlets from The Sims 3. In fact they are much less realistic than the "moodlets" from the previous game, they're over exaggerated and definitely not in a good way; which has caused them to feel a lot less relatable. I don't know about you, but when I need to go to the washroom I don't walk with a limp or slouch like a sloth when I'm hungry. In summary, EA you have disappointed. You have taken the game I've grown to love and turned it into a nightmare; I can honestly say I will never buy a new sims game again. Expand

I sold the game on ebay, I spent about $10 in fees selling and shipping it, but was relieved to make about $30- only half of what I paid for the game. Then complaints from my seller started coming through. They said that their activation code was invalid. It was the activation code sold with the game, so I didn't understand the problem. I sent them a few links to EA customer service and figured I could put this to rest. But then they demanded a refund, so I had to look into the issue myself. And guess what I find out! You can't even resell the game you hate! The game is tied to an Origin account, and can only be used by that Origin account from that point on! That's great news! Just terrific. Now I have to pay to have then ship the game back to me, and offer them a refund. This company has disgusting ethics.

They must have made it with 2 year-olds in mind, because the game play, cartoon graphics, ridiculous Duplo style furniture and embarrassing amount of loading screens are just insulting. They shouldn't call it a life simulator, because it's not. It seems rushed, cheap, and it is full of software bugs. Technically it must have been programmed by apprentices. Saved games get lost, broken and bloated, so that the appalling amount of loading screens take longer and longer the more you play. Seriously, it's no more than a mobile app at best, not worth more than 1.99$. And it's dreadfully boring. Once you realize how limited it is, and how useless the NPCs are, and how flawed and game driven the emotional system is (forcing you to complete tasks all the time just to control your Sim's emotions) there is nothing fun about it. It has been stripped down to the bone. EA takes pride in having released 7 patches already. That is how broken and buggy and unplayable this game was on release, nothing to be proud of, however they seem to think it's very amusing. The people who are still playing have modified it to the point it hardly resembles what EA made at all.
I can safely say this is the worst game I have ever played in my life, despite being a hardcore Sims player since 2000 and owning every single title and EP of the Sims franchise. At first I hoped an eventual Sims 5 would repair the damage it's left in it's wake, but I'm afraid it's so bad I'll never trust EA again. After SimCity and Sims 4, I believe the company just doesn't have what it takes to make games. Even if they did make a Sims 5, their vision would probably ruin that too, because they just don't know what they're doing. This game is a disaster and a rip off.

    1) the graphics are shockingly bad. Like a child's colouring in book. Its painful to look at.
    2) excessive unnecessary loading screens. Seriously.. they put loading screens everywhere. This is so much worse than TS3 - loading screens are needed, perhaps, but they made it game breaking.
    3) no customization. Everything looks exactly the same. Like cheap plastic toys. Even the sims themselves. You get more customization from a lego set.
    4) exceptionally un-user friendly... just TRY and have two people play the game on one pc. wont even get into that dramabomb. ALso.. how to create new families while youre playing? Nope. you have to quit to the main menu.
    5) a crapton of bugs.. or maybe intended 'features'...like the fact that there is no option to add tattoos once a sim has been created already...or no change of last names when married. (both have to be done with a pretty severe cheat, which destroys family ties)
    6) sims exist as clones of exactly the same mold. They act the same, they all look the same, with slight tweaks here and there.

I can go on and on. really i can. But I wont. The sad thing is that I really really wanted to like this game. I even defended it.. give it time.. see if it grows on you.. and it does.. like a fungus. every day is just a trawl through CC sites looking for replacement textures and gameplay mods to actually make it playable.

The fun has well and truly been sucked out of the series.. this is a withered husk of its past glory.
Maybe Ill give it another go in a year or two.. but until then, ill stick to TS3.

SERIOUSLY... when DRAGON AGE INQs character creator kicks your life simulation;s ass in SO MANY WAYS.. its time to pull the plug. How can a game of THAT size and amazing splendor run so perfectly and look so amazing, but you cant get your game thats around 1/3 of its size (on disk space) run a second without a few loading screens all while it looks like plastic children's toys?

utter nonsense. move on for your own sanity and wallet. Rather go play TS 2 or 3. Its cheaper .. and a lot better,

I was very wary of this game and kept noticing things that were missing. I started playing because I had nothing else to play and then next thing I knew I had spent 40 hours on the game. Eventually I got a bit bored and eventually was gifted Get Together and Get to Work and that added to the game but definitely not worth the $50 asking price (Get to Work only has 3 careers) . I say this is a pretty good game to eat up some hours but definitely not worth full price. I do love the improved graphics and flow of the game. Sims can now talk while eating and they can walk through each other rather than getting stuck or insisting they can't get past. I think the get to work and get together dlc should have been included in the base game because $89 for sims 4 plus $50 for get to work plus $50 for get together is an absolute joke (just like the 'Australia tax' on games in general).

Edit: (score dropped) EA should quit making games and go into the casino business. They know what they did. Loot boxes and micro transactions can go to hell, EA is destroying gaming. This is too far and it's time to make a stand.

Horrible, this game is so garbage it might have been garbage that was slapped with The Sims logo and sent
to publishing. THe graphics suck and the gameplay is horrifying than the previous sequels. I would rather play The Sims 3 if it actually ran smoothly but no, it doesnt

While an enjoyable title that has been polished up and seems generally very modern, it cannot be expected that The Sims 4 is not going to be compared to The Sims 3. In this respect, it seems that while the game took a few steps forwards, it also took a few steps backwards by abandoning features that were very helpful and appreciated in the previous versions. It does have new features that people have been waiting for, such as emotions and more personality for the Sims. As for now, for some players it may not quite be worth to abandon The Sims 3 for it, but for new players looking for a first experience with the franchise, they may have an easier time navigating than former The Sims 3 players. People that have previously enjoyed the latter may be disappointed by the menus (Sim creation, building, or navigating town), as they have been so massively oversimplified that they are now actually confusing.

The Sims 4 is just a foundation of a game. How would you react if you bought a new Elder Scrolls game and realized that half of the cities are unavailable (because TES6: World Adventures is around the corner), there are only 4 weapons (TES6: Accessories), you can’t ride horses (TES6: Pets), there are only 12 quests (TES6: Careers), 2 guilds (TES6: Friends) and 3 spells (TES6: Supernatural)?
