I'm not usually disappointed enough in a game to take the time to write a bad review, but I have to make an exception for this one because I was very excited about its release and I should have seen the red flags before forking out $70 for it. This felt nothing at all like any of the previous sim games. the days went by way too fast, it shouldn't take 9 sim hours to water your plants. I don't need dramatic music and huge drops in moods just cause my sim has to pee or wants a bagel. I didn't feel like I was seeing any "weird" stories occurring unless it was mine of the obsessive lady who spends all day watering 6 plants and walks funny. If I had time out of watering my plants to even be slightly social, I was always cranky because some dramatic music would play and Id have to eat or use the washroom. It felt more like a time management game I would play for free on any free gaming website with a little better graphics. I'm really not feelin' this one EA, and this is coming from someone who has previously purchased nearly every expansion for sims, sims 2 and 3. Not likely I'll put any more money into this one. The amount of content you get with the base game is like 1/3 of the Sims 3. EA the Apple of the gaming industry, and is charging us 10,00/20,00/40,00 euro's for content that should've been in the game already. Seriously, don't buy this, **** EA.

Thats it!! End of the story...

why the hell they downgrade to closed world anyway? i am trying to figure it out and got assumption: EA want to back again to sims 2 because in some review, people always compare sims 3 to sims 2 and said "Sims 2 are better than sims 3 blablabla..." But it just my assumption.

i am sure 99% i don't need to buy sims 4 expansion. What the hell they want to sell anymore: Astrology sign? color wheel? toddler? woohoo technique? amusement park? weather? new skill? new job? life stage? NOT INTERESTING!

I want to jump to the sims 5, if EA open registration for sims 5 now, i am ready on the list!

i actually want to score it 0, but i kindly think EA work hard for this game and deserve more than that. Well maybe you can get better score for sims 2 fans... Just saying...

Sims 4 is a major disappointment. It is hard to put your finger on a single failure, but as a whole it just isn't a very good game. It feels very shallow.

Careers seem dumbed down compared to the last version. Non player characters, instead of interacting, it seems like they are just sort of parading by.

I'm sure they will be adding many of these missing features as paid DLC, but that itself is offensive. The base game should at least be enjoyable. In it's current state, it is not.

No cars for work. no ghosts no anything. just walk in a circle and enjoy all that was in sims 3 is now not in sims4 untill you pay for the DLC they have yet to make. EA is junk and it shows strongly.

I tried playing the game for about 30+ hours to give it a fair rating but after taking a break from it I just cannot go back to it with any sort of anticipation. The emotion system and animations are improved but they give you a Very basic game with an incredibly small world for your sims to live. I really really wanted to love this game but I feel as though EA/Maxis just slapped me in the face for supporting their product (I pre-ordered months in advance of release). I know that alot of people are saying...ya but its a base game, it will get better with expansions! Why? Why do I need to pay additional money for expansions on an INCOMPLETE base game? I highly doubt that they can fix the core game mechanics with expansions. There is a reason why the User Reviews scores are so low versus the Critic Reviews. I would not recommend buying this game unless its on sale for under $20. However even for $20 you could purchase much better non AAA games (including ALPHAS) on steam with more features and fun. With the graphics they've gone from half-realistic to compleatly cartoony along with muddy textures and low-poly models. There is almost no customization whatsoever just preset colors and patterns, several steps down from sims 3.
And yes, multitasking... Technically it sounds great but practically it just falls flat and is annoying.
When I want someone in a hurry to eat mac n cheese I don't want them to cease doing that to talk to someone across the table and then continue.
The sims AI has apparently become dumber too, often I find sims standing looking into a wall wondering what to do.
And the emotions? So far they only seem slightly annoying and only created to make the game look somewhat deeper then it really is.

Just about the only upgrade from previous games is the sim creater (if you ignore no color/pattern customization and terrible looking, low selection of hair.) you'll be able to create characters in far better detail then before.
Did I mentione I played the sims for apple products too? The sims 4 feels pretty much like that, scaled down and simplified.

So my advise? If you really must have this game, buy it once it's like 50-75% sale or better yet, just get the "create a sim" demo and play that, at the moment that's as fun this game is getting.

+ Create-a-Sim is the game's astounding feature. The dragging type modeling makes recreating your ideal celebrity very easy. Clothes being sorted by style and type make picking outfits easier. New things like walking styles give your Sims more character. Traits on the other hand, are less complex.

    - Open world is something of the past, as it, yet again, is a step back, because of loading screens.

    - Graphics.... Don't get me started. Previous games were quite impressive the time of their release.. But then there's Sims 4.

    - Gameplay is very repetitive and doesn't have me playing for long.

In final, I wouldn't recommend this game, personally. Creativity is a must for me and seeing how so many things took a step back, absolutely killed it for me. I find The Sims 2 better than this one, which I find to be very sad.

I started playing Sims games when The Sims 3 just launched and I loved that game to death. I do not want to compare The Sims 3 and 4, because they are two different experiences, however The Sims 4 IS a successor to The Sims 3 and it should be treated accordingly. Before I get into the negatives of The Sims 4, I want to talk about the positives. First of all, create-a-sim and build/buy mode are both amazing. If you are looking for a game in which you want to build houses and create detailed looking people, then The Sims 4 is your game. Secondly, the gallery aspect of the game is also a very nice touch. In the gallery you can download sims, houses and community lots from other people. This is a nice feature to have, because it really allows you to share your creations with the world. These are the two positives I can name if I talk about The Sims 4. Now I need to talk about the bad parts and there sure are enough to talk about. So what are the issues with The Sims 4 ? The big problem with The Sims 4 for me is shallow game play. This can be divided into several categories, but the shallow game play is the main point in which The Sims 4 fails miserably. The lack of an open world, 90% of worlds are set dressing, the sims which do not have a personality at all, the budget cuts in animating simple stuff like opening an elevator door, sims 's actions have zero consequences, relationships between sims feel shallow, etc. These points help make the game play less and less realistic and also less interesting. I am not interested in a SIMULATION game if this game is not realistic. The Sims 4 feels like a game that was meant to make money by doing as little as possible. This can truly be seen in the $300+ USD worth of expansion packs. If these expansions actually gave a ton of content, I would not complain, but even with ALL the content installed, The Sims 4 still is an extremely boring game if you bought it for the game play. I think The Sims franchise has lost that bit of magic that it once has. Now it's just a part of EA 's money grabbing machine. Expand

When I started playing this game it didn't look bad at all, even if I didn't liked the graphics at first, but after a couple of days playing it, you start to realize how low budget and low quality this game is.
Some of the new features are so good, like body modification, the gallery, wall heights, event planner, spandrels and friezes, decoration items for walls, and multitasking.

The problem comes when the list of bad features quadruples the list of good features.

One of the main problems of this game is that Create a Style has been removed, making it impossible to match the majority of objects, clothes, floors and walls together, limiting the options of hair, eyes and makeup colors.
Among other problems are in the game, no pools, no toddlers, teenagers sims have the same height as an adult sim, no body hair, the foundation can only be placed in ALL the rooms or none, no basements, no vehicles, the height is the same for all rooms on the same floor, no half walls, no modification terraforming, no open world, and the list goes on ...

On creating Sims, it's faster but is missing many points of modification, eg. it is impossible to do a double chin, and making certain modifications can be a nightmare.

In the graphics part, there are certain items that will look great while others are incredibly poor modeled as the collectibles or spherical elements that look very polygonal. The lighting is fantastic when it works well, but is not always like that, in Oasis Springs natural light makes things do not have their actual color.

The community lots are boring, and poorly executed. The speakers at the pubs, each one have a different song, The Sims that visits the lot treat objects as if they were at their home, objects gets dirty and no one clean them. Don't have enough NPC running the lots, and all sims are usually stacked in the same spot, leaving empty the entire lot, just to mention a few things. It makes you feel that in the original Sims, 14 years ago, the simulation outside home was 1000 times better.

Also, I must say that the game provides very little to long term fans of the franchise, who have been playing the previous Sims games with all expansions and stuff packs, leaving us with a feeling that the game can not be enjoyed until they release a couple of expansions.

That said, this is a game that would have potential to be great if they had not taken away so many loved features that were basic for the fans on the franchise. Possibly if they add them back again the missing features and especially the Create a Style one, the game would be much different, and the opinion of the fans will change.

This franchise has gotten out of EA's hands, despite having been for more than a decade, the best-selling PC game in history, they haven't cared, had not ambition and have not wanted to do it in the right way. I hope they learn something from all of this and fix the game soon, not resulting in a hit and run.

While I understand that they were trying to broaden their customer base, what they fail to realize is that fans of the game will actually seek to upgrade their computer so they can play the game. Now what they have done is created a game that is far behind the times. No Sims game is expected to be a graphic masterpiece, however this game is not even average. The Sims 3 came out over 5 years ago and at the time it was definitely above average as far as the look of the game goes and it still isn't bad today. The Sims 4 isn't good now, what will it be like in 5 years?

In their crusade to make the game be less demanding of the computer, Maxis stripped down many of the best features of The Sims 3 including the open world which gave the town a much more life-like feel. Many other features have been taken away as well and you can find many lists of them if you search the internet.

Ultimately, this game feels like something that was made for a tablet, not for a computer. While for a tablet the game would be good, as a consumer you're paying for a computer game and should be able to expect the type of quality we associate with computer games.

For a company that nets over $1 BILLION every year; it's truly shameful.

That's EA, they buy popular franchises. Strip them, chew them up, spit out a polished alpha version of the game, then nickel and dime their customers for every little bit of content. Rinse and repeat until people have had enough and stop buying. Then they retire the series and it's never heard from again.

Have you guys seen the size of the lots?? In the biggest of lots in Sims 4, I can't even fit the garage of my last Sims 3 house. It seems like they have decided that nobody plays Sims for the design and build aspect of it. Rather than having the best of two worlds, they went for one, namely focus on interaction between sims.

There are two enormous problems with this.

First, the game is not free. Far from it. It is priced at the very top tier of AAA titles. Definitely a poor value for what you get.

Second, even if it were free, or priced more in line with the newly limited gameplay options, whatever content EA plans to sell further on down the road isn't available yet, leaving you stranded with half a game. I suspect the reason for this is that EA knows if they offered this inadequate experience with the option to immediately spend even more money on additional content, the backlash would be tremendous. We wouldn't put up with with it — nor should we, even if this strategy is barely veiled. That backlash should exist now in the form of not another sale.

When Sims 3 came out, I found it very similar to Sims 2, but with am open world which was really nice. The time system was bugged and a lot of other things too, but the graphics were better, the customization were amazing and it has everything I needed to build wonderful houses (which I do mostly with the Sims) and play in a realistic world (more or less).

Over the time Sims 3 was getting less buggy and with the Addons there came nearly everything I wished for (and a lot I would rather not have like fairies and sparkling vampires). I only missed to have a own shop like in the Sims 2. But when buying a lot of DLCs (like hairs, cloth etc.) and the Addon the engine was put to the ground and in the end (maybe it was strategic from EA) it didn't make any fun anymore, because there was no fluent gaming possible even with my high end PC.

So instead of creating an engine with could handle an Open World with a lot of items and characters, Maxis proofed again, after SimCity, that they are not talented programmers.
Sims 4 is a step back to Sims 2, meaning limited to a single active lot with loading screens if you want to change the lot. There are no rabbit holes anymore and the Sims disappear if they go to work etc. (Even Sims 2 had them)...
A lot of items which were basic even in Sims 1 are missing, like the dish washer, pools and even toddlers.
It is very funny (unintentionally I guess) the lack of difference between the ages in Sims 4.
When getting older from Teen to Young Adult to Adult to Old Adult, only a very little changes are mad to the figure (like getting a little bit fatter and shoulders going down) and the textures changes a bit. But there is no more different highs or really visual signs of the age.
Besides from that the Create a Sim is much better than in the Sims 3 - unmodified that is. With mods nearly all the new options were possible in Sims 3.
The Camera is a mess, but you can change it back to Sims 3 style. If you aren't fluent in the short cuts you gonna have a hard time with Sims 4. The placement of the different tools ind build mode (like the demolition tool) is horrible. The hole interface is horrible. You can filter everything and search for a special item. But you have to filter everything and search for it to find anything. All the items are based on the room you building right now (like Bathroom, Living-room etc.) and not after the base of the times like in Sims 1,2,3. So if you want to buy a roof lamp you have to look through every room if you have bad luck until you find it, or search for the name or lamp. But it will get really annoying if you have to use the keyboard for every item...
If you finally found the item, you have only have a very few colors to choose from. The beautiful customization tool (Create a Style) from Sims 3 is not there anymore.
The Colors look not even realistic. The hole Engine does not look realistic anymore. Everything, starting at the traits over the look to the animations, are looking like an after noon kids show.
Even the normal careers are gone. You can now become a Secret Agent or a Tech Guru... Very nice.

Sims 4 is all about Emotions and multitasking, EA and Maxis said.
The Emotions are nice, a bit comical but that is intended. They are nice. But not more than that. I will not miss them that much if I play Sims 3 again.
The multitasking could be really awesome but is unrealistic implemented. They will multitask everything, ever. If you say: Talk to this guy, the Sim will sit somewhere an talk. They will not just talk. They have to multitask all the time. Even when saying hello they will first sit down somewhere.
Ea said something about intelligence but the Sims have been and are in the Sims 4 plain dumb. They will not care about someone dying right in front of them if they are hungry. They will not care about anything if they are sleepy and so on.

I didn't spend that much time with the game to be honest, because it was so annoying and disappointing, maybe I missed the charm of the game because of that. But as a fan of the series for a long time I come to the conclusion: Don't buy this game! And there will be micro-transactions (buy a city, hair etc.), little DLCs every quarter-, and an addon similar to Sims 1,2,3 (you could see it in Sims 3: They made nearly the same addons like in Sims 2) to get the last out of this piece of garbage.

Maybe in one year it will fun to play, right now it is not.
Stay with the base Sims 3 or even Sims 2. It is much better than this game.

The problem EA is facing is that people are sick of starting over with features every time a new Sims game comes out. Why pay $20-$30 per expansion 6-7x just to get all the content you already had in the previous iterations.

It's time to innovate EA, stop milking the franchise.

It looks like it could be a great game but it's buggy, crashes a lot, and there seems to be less content than in the previous one. For now, Create-a-Sim is the only commendable thing in the game. Maybe if I manage to keep it running for more than five minutes, it will even be fun. There is one improvement, though, and that's why it got a "2": it loads faster than the third installment. Way faster.

Unfortunately things have gotten worse in the nearly 14 months since the games release, not better. Certain things like pools and ghosts were eventually added back into the game free of charge, but the attitudes of the Sims Team after they did so was so unattractive and unlikable that it turned me off to the game even more. They acted like they were going out of their way to give these "free" things to paying customers, when in reality those were things that should have been in the base game to begin with.
And now the game is being over-saturated with constant "game-packs" that offer little content, even for only 10 USD, and a half-baked work expansion was released earlier this year that both everyone wanted, yet offered only three new interactive jobs. And lets be real here, how many times are you going to play through each job? Once? Twice maybe? And, again, there are only three new jobs so people ran out of things to do with that expansion after a few weeks.
Everything about the current direction that the Sims seemed half-assed to me. I, along with many other fans, feel like there is no connection to the game, no connection to the creators, no passion. It's a mess. It's superficial and lacking content even after a YEAR. I doubt Sims 4 lifespan will be four-five years like previous sims games. Hopefully a Sims 5 will come out, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Sims team is bleeding money at this point and can't afford to make a Sims 5 in the future.

Not only is it sixty quid, it's also all the dosh you need to buy the expansion packs in the future too. By the time you've spent that much money, you'll have probably needed to take out a third mortgage. Not impressed EA. Not impressed at all.

The Create-A-Sim aspect of the game is arguably only one of two resounding saving graces of the game, but it still doesn't make the game actually worth sixty quid (or anything close to it!). The loading times are so shockingly quick in comparison to Sims 3 (mostly due to lack of content I should imagine, all you seem to get is the base elements of the game and that is IT) it makes you wonder why the hell did they make the Sims 3 so damn slow to launch up if they made Sims 4 launch up in far less time than it takes to boil a kettle.
The travel aspects are okay, the rest of it, not too great to be fair. There's nothing new about the Sims, not since the third one, there appears to be no massively noticeable improvements or innovations to the game other than the Sim Creation process, and that is about IT.

Can you smell the incoming expansion packery that is about to ensue over the next near decade?

As an avid Sims fan with my own dedicated website, I was very eager to receive a copy of the Sims 4. I'm mainly a builder and was looking forward to being able to create stunning homes using what I hoped would be, some brand, new tools to work with. How disappointed I was!

Firstly, the foundations - If you want a foundation on your house, it applies to the entire lot, whether the parts are joined to the house or not. I sometimes like to build a fake garage or a little garden shed, but now I can't as they all end up with the same foundation as the house! Also, you can't make the foundation match the walls any more, you just have to pick from the feeble choices of foundation patterns they provide. It's also very difficult to join fences to the foundations - you have to build walls where you want the fences to be and then apply a fence to the walls.

Secondly, you can't delete floor tiles, just entire floors. I like to make my landing areas inside the house interesting and for that I need to be able to take away parts of the floor. Not any more I can't! They say there are ways around this, but they all make weird things happen when you try them. Sometimes the roof comes down into the house etc. There is a sledgehammer tool, so you can build a mini room where you want to delete the floor, then you use the sledgehammer to smash the floor and delete the tiles, but as soon as you delete the walls, the floor comes back! I have searched for hours for a solution/workaround for this, but just come across many people having the same issue with no way around it. However, you can make the foundations different heights, which is a definite improvement.

Thirdly, there is NO pattern tool! You receive a paltry amount of content that you can't do anything with, so everyone's houses all end up looking the same. One of the things I loved about the Sims 3 was how highly configurable everything was, even the Sims themselves. This, IMHO, is a definite step back for the game.

There are 2 carpets, both the same colour, with little pattern difference. Unless you want to download tons and tons of custom content, your Sims houses are going to be very boring affairs. I can't even select different bedding for your beds, you just have to be happy with the bed sets they provide.

I'm not sure if this is something I haven't figured out yet, but if I want 3 or more sets of stairs next to each other and I want to have railings at the side, I can't - the railings appear between each set and I can't just add them to each end.

Annoyingly, the moveobjects on cheat doesn't work in this game. That means I can't move objects where I want any more. :(

There are one or two improvements that I like - one is that you can move your entire house if you need to, and now your roofs can all have different patterns.

There were several more things that I wasn't happy with, but these are the main bugbears. For game sequels, you need to add features, not take them away! I'm just happy they listened to people and brought back the pools after doing away with these, too, initially!

Having a baby appear in a bassinet instead of being able to place him/her in a crib of my choosing is really annoying. There's no more swimming. The world map is a joke. There are loading screens in order to go anywhere at all, even to visit your next door neighbor. The autonomy options are extremely high autonomy, or none at all. You can't have a private conversation between two sims if there are any other sims around, they will all join the conversation whether you like it or not. Objects in the game look weird and boxy, lack of realism. The options are so limited and the game is so bare bones that it is just no fun after creating your character and building a house. Expand

Ok so I see improvements with the Sims and the UI & Build mode! What in gods name happened to the GAMEPLAY!!? They absolutely destroyed the Gameplay! Sims 4 shows about 15% of Sims 3 gameplay. the rest they choose to throw out!? You cant walk next door and go knock on a door, it loads up? REALLY!!!? The town itself is only 4 buildings, and a park!?? Wow totally a waste of money peeps!

After a year and a half of waiting, I was sorely disappointed with this latest Sims game. An avid Simmer since age ten (now age 23), I found this to be my least favorite of all three. An avid Simmer since age ten (now age 23), I found this to be my least favorite of all three. Most of the features which made Sims 2 and Sims 3 great, have been removed. The lack of a toddler life stage, takes away an important aspect of the game. While I did enjoy the sliders in Create-A-Sim, the lack of control over colors, (ie: the Create-A-Design tool) is missing. I can no longer make my Sims have unconventional hair colors or strange eye colors.

I am somewhat of an Build-A-Mode buff, but this one is terrible. While some of the features and pieces are arranged more thoughtfully and logically, several features are noticeably missing, again with Create-A- Design. There is virtually no room for artistic license. Also, there are no pools and there is no auto roof >.< There is a glitch with the foundation in which I had to build random rooms where I had to then delete walls to get the foundation to form correctly so I could build a deck. And the fact that there is no dishwashers is a minor annoyance.

The worst part of all has to be the neighborhoods. Unlike the Sims 3, which opened up free play, we are limited to a smattering of buildings. There are a total of four community buildings in one area of the world. The Sims 3 had a plethora of buildings and lots to explore without having to bounce to the loading scene. There was a free range of movement where you could have one Sim go to the movies and another sit home and take care of the house and still keep track of another searching for collectables. This feature is not possible in this game which is a major issue with me.

The game itself is rather boring to play, there is not much substance. While the characters are more believable, I could not help but find them mundane. There is very little range of freedom. The needs tend to turn red just under a half which puts the whole Sim in a tumultuous emotional state, granted the click to take care of needs option is certainly convenient. Also, I have notice that the buy mode items are much more expensive than in previous games. 12000 simolions for a refrigerator, I mean come on. Even in the real world a refrigerator would never cost that, except maybe an industrial one.

The one good thing I can say about this latest debacle, is that the graphics are 100 times better than the other games. Loading times are also much faster than ever before.

Even though the graphics are awesome, I cannot overcome the serious downfalls of this newest Sims game. I think I will retire my Sims 4 until major improvements can be made, if possible, and stick with the Sims 3, even if it means more glitches, worse graphics and longer loading times. The Sims 3, and even the Sims 2, are far better games than this one as it stands and I will return dutifully to them and hope that the SimGurus are watching and know this: this game needs a major revamp and judging by the reviews coming in, I am not alone.

There are only two available services that you can call up and that's: The maid and pizza delivery. In the past Sims games, you're able to call up even more than that. You can't place empty lots in the world anymore (This goes all the way back to The Sims 1 - I was fine at that time) and you only have a very limited amount of public venues to visit. You are required to load into other neighborhood homes even though they are within the same small open world little block.

In live mode, if you zoom out, you see several backdrops. Such as more houses, trains, trams and cars. These are actually only decor. There are only a select few houses in which you can visit and the rest are decorations. No one lives there, no one can live there and you can't visit.

The game is rushed, bare boned and watered down. It's highly disappointing and definitely not worth $80US. I would at least wait for sales or content to be patched through. If it takes EA to sell DLCs to add in more content (Which would be unsurprising), then it's best to invest elsewhere.

It reminds me of the TS2 how you were confined to your lots. Some of the new skills are cool, such as the comedy skill, and I do think that the game looks more realistic. I just paid $70 and tell me that you can't put something in a game that we both know will be made to pay for later on, is complete bull. Each prior installment of the sims has improved on the prior in some way that made the hard-reboot worth it, The Sims 2 added aging and generations, The Sims 3 added an open world. Not only did Maxis fail to add anything of note to The Sims 4, but they affirmatively left out the improvements and features of other installments. The Sims 4 neighborhoods are small and as far from open as possible. Want to visit a friend or the gym? 2-3 minutes of loading on an SSD. Want to watch kids grow up? There are no toddlers, children's faces are all literally identical, and teens are only slightly shorter than adults, so sim kids go from indistinguishable from other children to a practically full grown adult in two steps.

Some may miss the content added by prior expansion packs but I miss fundamental content and features of prior sims games. Ultimately, there is nothing "wrong" with the Sims 4 except that it's a step backwards. If you've never played The Sims 3 or The Sims 2 then chances are that you will enjoy it. But for long term Sims fans it's a slap in the face.

As with the previous sims games, I can usually play for 6-8 hours straight daily and get easily addicted and involved but this there was nothing. I feel let down.
The Sims 3 was my favorite of the whole franchise and I was expecting a huge step up from that but it's gone back - way back, if not WORSE than sims 1/2.

You create a sim, with basic, ugly clothing and plastic looking hair/skin. You are then faced with this vile interface which is the "neighborhood/world" it felt like a mobile phone games interface...
You then move into your plot and build using only basic furniture (which may i add you can only choose form a handful of colors - no more CASt).
You then go into live mode. You keep their needs in the green and let them do their thing...
I felt I had no purpose anymore. It was repetitive and boring.

I WILL be going back to the sims 3 unless EA decide to up their game and fix this abomination that they call a sims game. If I find out they don't even TRY to improve things, I will never give them my money ever again.

    RIP The Sims Franchise!

There are so many features missing from this game. There is no create-a-style, no dishwashers, no open world whatsoever, no repair man, no pools, no toddlers, no cars. I could go on and on. It feels like they put all of their eggs into the emotions basket and left none for the rest of the gameplay. Even the emotions are buggy. I sent one of my sims to her friend's house and they sat and chatted. After my sim got up to leave and walked out the door, the friend continued to smile and laugh towards her empty chair.

The tutorial system is the worst I have ever seen. Crap pops up all the time in a manner that makes no sense. Instead of popping up as a notification in the corner like it did in the Sims 3, the tips crop up all over the UI, often asking you to do things you do not want to do. Further, most of the tips are not helpful info at all, while instructions on, say, how to do homework are nowhere to be found.

The art direction also leaves something to be desired. Everything feels flat. The lighting in the homes is dim and cold. The plants look cheap. The sims themselves are the only part of this game that actually looks improved.

I spent a few hours playing this and simply lost interest. With the other Sims games, I've often played until dawn because I completely lost track of time. With this, the immersion simply isn't there.

I got a refund. I'm so disappointed. I really wanted to love this game.

When making my simself I found it incredibly frustrating that you couldn't be childish and hate kids. Not having the hate kids option also means that the second your sims marries they'll start wanting kids.

Which brings me to the gameplay itself, it is seriously thin on features and what features there are have their irritations. Every time there are other sims around your sims decides to group chat even if you have a loner sim and have turned autonomy off (and what happened to low autonomy? High or off, it's jarring), everything is more expensive, the GUI is more of an annoyance than an improvement, want to see your sim's needs at all times? You're stuck with a stinkin' big chunk of GUI in your face blocking your screen, otherwise you'll actively have to look at their needs when you want to know. I'm not even going to bother talking about the toddler debacle, it's not worth mentioning because everyone knows all about that one already.

Lastly, in general, everything is spread really thin, there's less of everything and it really does hamper the enjoyment of gameplay, especially considering the hefty price tag, this is what is holding back build/buy/CAS mode (as well as the lack of Create-A-Style which was a terrible terrible idea). The complaints are pretty consistent from one player to the next and really this was what a lot of people had expected all along since EA refused to listen right through development. What's worse is that the game is already needing fixes, patches and updates, it is good that they are fixing them but after being in developement for so long there shouldn't be so many issues right off the bat.

After giving it a chanve for a few hours I can safely say that I won't be trying again until the pets expansion and tons of CC is out. That way maybe there'll be enough content and fixes and options to make this playable.

Although I figured the actual gameplay would be at least the same as TS3 was. I was very wrong. I completely understand how some people might like TS4. It is just like TS1 with nicer graphics. The problem with that though, is that I had become used to the new way of the sims. A few of the things I miss are Height distribution among age groups, going to an actual building for work, more than 10 choices for job opportunities, maternity leave, letting a fire spread through my house to kill my husbands(they made it auto extinguish), being able to jog to the park(they removed open world), story progression WAS SO AMAZING - it made me feel less alone, and now we're alone in this world by ourself, story sharing on the website which IS SO MISLEADING. Their website explains weirder stories? Okay well whats the use of making these stories if I can't share them with the world? They want us to connect our TS4 accounts with Facebook, but I live in a different world on the sims. They removed the family tree, pools are missing, there are barely any available housing lots. I am very upset with Electronic Arts for ruining the game which honestly helped me become who I am today. First things first, I'm really not into making the sims less realistic but that's just me. The CAS is cool, yeah, but why make them more cartoony? They look like the sims freeplay characters and that bums me out.

    And now my major gripes:

No family tree...what?! I'm a legacy player, this game is basically pointless for me.

No customizable anything. I get it, expansion packs $, whatever, but shouldn't you be going FORWARD from your previous game and not backwards? I understand not including pets, supernatural, university etc., that's standard, but to strip the game of features that came standard with the previous version makes zero sense.

The neighborhoods are a complete joke. What is it, 4 houses per? A loading screen (yes, short, but still) between itty bitty neighborhoods? WHY? I don't see the reason and EA/Maxis seems to think this is a central core will not budge type design. Why though? I really don't get it. If they would go ahead and explain to anybody WHY they consider this central to the game, maybe I will feel better about it.

No toddlers...again why? I LOVE the toddler stage. It's annoying as hell but you see the beginning of genetic mixing even then (is that even a thing in this game? genetics?)

One less trait...when the game is all based on traits. Kinda silly and limiting.

    No pools, no cars? Huh?

I think I only have a couple of pros:

I always hated building houses and decorating because in general I suck at that, but I'll admit that the building aspect is awesome and I like being able to download from the community because there are a ton of skilled players out there

The community/gallery is actually pretty rad, I really like that. If we can't get online play, I'm at least happy we can have some sort of interaction with our friends.

CAS is neat as I said, but too cartoony for my liking. The physics and graphics behind it are pretty cool though.

The multitasking is nice I guess.

    That's really about it.

    ----

In summary: this game was half-baked. It wasn't ready. This would be a good demo of the game. Once they start rolling out expansions and I inevitably buy them because I have since the very first sims 1, maybe just MAYBE it'll reach some sort of finished feel. I really hope that they take the fan reaction to heart and give us some huge upgrades, but I sort of doubt it. For now, I'll stick with the sims 3.

The tons of game updates on the way might make the game pretty interesting in the end but will not the 300$ or more invested at that point. Maybe EA should consider a new way to distribute the game? A monthly fee would be a way better option. Considering how little the games evolve from one edition to the other, having a continuous game update system à la World Of Warcraft could make it way painless. Worlds are much smaller. You miss the toddler age step. No design features. Only plus side is. It's more realistic and the sims can do there normal day to day things and socialise at the same time. So upset with the lack of creativity that's gone into this game. Wouldn't recommend. Going to go back to sims 3 Expand

There are too many feature removals from The Sims 3 to even justify the lack of content in The Sims 4. Although loading times may be shorter, there are substantially more of them. I feel like TS4 is actually moving away from the series we know and love.

The Sims 4 is the worst installment in the series and is infuriating on so many levels. I'd much rather play The Sims 3, which is the best so far, than this closed world, loading-screen-ridden heap of junk.

The way I see it, if EA doesn't improve it to be better than the Sims 3, it will crash and burn before 5 years even go by.

The only way you can have fun with this game is buying the expansion packs, stuff packs, and game packs, which is pricey. Speaking of pricey, I paid $80 for the base game last October and I've played it a grand total of maybe 15 times. Not worth the money. I loved creating houses on hills, having a broad range of materials I could use to create houses, more sims features I could use to play the game. But you took all of that away from your customers? And left us with some basic piece of **** we had to deal with for 10 months!!!!!! No wonder your sales have plummeted. Please sell the sims franchise to a company that cares, and focus on the new Fifa Games that come out every year, to satisfy the gorilla kind who play your useless, ugly, stupid games. Do not get the Sims if you loved the Sims 3 so much. Deal with the graphics in the Sims 3, and you will have a cheaper, much more enjoyable time. Que si deseo ser el mejor del mundo, que si quiero ser un guaperas sex symbol del país, o quizás un superdeportista de élite como Cristiano Ronaldo.

-Events for hosting parties are an expansion
    -Family Pets are an Expansion
-Interactions for Jobs/Careers are an Expansion
-THE CITY FOR THE CITY WORLD IS AN EXPANSION
-An expansion for house objects (yeah that's right, we took out half the available items)
-Restaurants and Night Clubs are separate expansions

While an enjoyable title that has been polished up and seems generally very modern, it cannot be expected that The Sims 4 is not going to be compared to The Sims 3. In this respect, it seems that while the game took a few steps forwards, it also took a few steps backwards by abandoning features that were very helpful and appreciated in the previous versions. It does have new features that people have been waiting for, such as emotions and more personality for the Sims. As for now, for some players it may not quite be worth to abandon The Sims 3 for it, but for new players looking for a first experience with the franchise, they may have an easier time navigating than former The Sims 3 players. People that have previously enjoyed the latter may be disappointed by the menus (Sim creation, building, or navigating town), as they have been so massively oversimplified that they are now actually confusing.

The Sims 4 is just a foundation of a game. How would you react if you bought a new Elder Scrolls game and realized that half of the cities are unavailable (because TES6: World Adventures is around the corner), there are only 4 weapons (TES6: Accessories), you can’t ride horses (TES6: Pets), there are only 12 quests (TES6: Careers), 2 guilds (TES6: Friends) and 3 spells (TES6: Supernatural)?
