Tried it briefly, had all the signs of a bad game. In the first few minutes I was bombarded with pop up menus. It's felt like the game was going to be pretty cumbersome. Immediately it was clear that nothing at all about this game stands out. I don't think it's a total fail, but it clearly didn't get the basics pinned down well enough to be good.

I'm actually rather disappointed that I have to give this game a 5 out of 10.
It should be noted that I'm not the kind of person who likes to or tends to overhype Games. But this was disappointing even from the perspective of what I was expecting.
The game was Overhyped and that's not its fault, people really nostalgia goggle New Vegas hard so this game was always going to have that

    But the game itself has.
Boring gameplay, this is a FPS with more or less the same system as New Vegas which was a poor FPS system then and its a worse one now, the AI is also basically useless. The game world is interesting but shallow, with about 20 hours of gameplay if you go to everything. And it's pretty technically bad, if this was a small indy studio I would be nicer to it. But its not.

People keep forgetting that Obsidion is a mid sized professional game studio.

I got this game on a sale. I had high hopes for it and then I started playing. The story, mechanics and almost everything feels bland. I do not know if it is me or the game. I just did not like it. It was like they had a good marketing team. That is my opinion so please be careful when buying this game.

My two biggest issues are the following:

    1. Sudden FPS drops, which are very annoying.

    2. The walking / fighting mechanics is seriously outdated. It is about 10 years old. You literally can not play the game after playing Far Cry 5-6, or Dying Light. This is a very big issue and it completely ruined the game for me. This is why I gave it a 6 score, and not 8.

after finishing the outer worlds all i could think was " wow no wonder everyone thinks this game is great" but then i come on metacritic and see how much people hate it ????? did we play the same game ? decidedly not as i'm sure most of the poor reviews played on easy mode as i played on easy first and got so bored i quit the game. supernova difficulty is what this game was designed forafter finishing the outer worlds all i could think was " wow no wonder everyone thinks this game is great" but then i come on metacritic and see how much people hate it ????? did we play the same game ? decidedly not as i'm sure most of the poor reviews played on easy mode as i played on easy first and got so bored i quit the game. supernova difficulty is what this game was designed for and if you don't play it on that difficulty you will be disappointed. not only that The outer worlds is NOT FALLOUT but is an open world RPG like fallout it is very easy to compare the outer worlds and fallout 3,nv and 4 . but please take it as its own thing it has its flaws sure and fallout dose do somethings better but the outer worlds is leagues better in other things.

Story: the story is somewhat basic and what you would expect ......at first there is a lot of choice and directions the story can go based on your choices ( like how a good rpg should) how you treat your crew , who you help , who you kill , who you negotiate with ect ect , now for me i saved halcyon with phineas welles , nyoka and felix died on me in the final boss fight but the rest of the crew survived. the game has a slide show ending detailing how all of your decisions turned out in the long run ( much like fallout nv) for an rpg with branching story trees is a good move. over all i think the story is well written and paced , bogged down by some cliches here and there and some predictable quests but makes up for them by being mostly self aware and not afraid to poke fun at it self
    Story: 8.7/10

World building: honestly this is the best part of the game and this genre/style of game the world in the outer worlds is fantastic and mirrors our own so well. capitalism has run rampant in a place where starvation and feral wild life out to kill ya and then those who are so desperate they become raiders those who will kill you for a scrap of leather everything has a place in this world. you are a wild card and people treat you like one. you are just as much a part of this world as they are though but you aren't brain washed like the rest of the residents. every planet has its own ecosystem and human condition , terra 1 has frontier towns , a big city and secret labs , terra 2 is a lawless place and has very few people besides those who were abandoned there , or tartarus the prison planet , the world is so well thought out and everything down to what items are where seems to be thought of.
    World building: 10/10

Graphics: this game looks pretty good , im much less impressed by its graphics than i am the rest of the game. the art direction is good but the tech doesn't really keep up with it. with on exception , The sky textures no skys look better than the outer worlds they are truly beautiful. animations are stiff and reused a lot witch bugged me a little as it lessens the variety of the game and makes it feel cheap. it is nevertheless a game with visual character , its look stands out thanks to its art direction of retro futurism meets modern day capitalism
    Graphics:7.5/10

Gameplay: to play the game you will have to forgive it for a lot of clunk with everything else this game does right it is easy to forgive its bare bones copypasta combat. on supernova you need to use enough tactics to make it feel like a challenge but on easier difficulty it's a breeze to get through just point and click. the choices and dynamically changing story saves this game from being a bore all together. but its an obsidian RPG made in the same style as fallout and fallout is not known for its thrilling fps combat. is it better than new vegas , YES the studio has improved and that's all you really need to know any improvement should be praised . it just feels like the game gets in its own way sometimes
    Gameplay 6.8/10

Sound design : big disappointment here the voice acting for the companions and main characters are find but the rest is just good Enough , again better than new vegas but not really up to the industry standard. gun sounds are good though especially the plasmas or lazer guns but i think the music was forgettable i don't know any of the individual tracks even now thinking about it except for the final rush , but i do know the music always fit the mood and that in video games is important enough
    Sound design:6/10

    8.7+10+7.5+6.8+6=39
    395= 7.8/10

this game is very good for rpg players , for first person shooter players use to spectacle not so much , it is a welcome addition to my library of games. i enjoyed the game thoroughly even if i did forgive a lot of its flaws , flaws i think can be easily ironed out in the eventual sequel because it deserves one

A space RPG, without the elements which don't contribute to the story directly, like unnecessarily detailed crafting, homebuilding, excessively branched skill trees etc. I don't like to struggle with these stuff, so The Outer Worlds has been a purely story ridden adventure for me.

Graphics, UI, level design, combat etc. all satisfied me well. Especially liked the art style of the game.

The only not positive comment I can leave is the palpable weirdness in nearly every dialogue and personalities of characters. Whole character of Parvati, the somewhat-cringy allegedly-cool dialogues of Nyoka, the idea behind creating the personality of Vicar Max, the far from being original crazy professor Phineas, important faces of ALL factions, the cuteness in cute characters, the edginess in edgy characters. After seeing all these I feel like I kinda know what kind of people the developers behind these parts are. Feels like all the conversations in this game are written by a guy who learned the world and social interaction through movies, games and TV, internalized tolerance not by genuinly believing, but because it is the norm in this circle now. This feeling hit me nearly in every conversation in the game, and near the end, this started to bother me very much.

Even though I found the dialogues kinda cringy, and the story not genuine and not original, I liked them too.

The FPS game mechanics are terrible. Bullet sponge enemies, poor animation, enemies deaf to gunshots happening within earshot, creatures that give up an attack if you step outside their zone. Resources (even on hard setting) are so abundant as to make collection devoid of challenge. Poor explosion and gun effects, illogical NPC behaviour. Fallout clone done by marketing commitee.

The storyline and dialogue is pretty good as it was made by the same people that made Fallout New Vegas. I like the aspect that you can use your skills as dialogue and that you can lie etc. To summarise the game, good fun game that's similar to Fallout 4 and Destiny 2 with great visuals and gives you an all-around fun time. I thorougly enjoyed the game.
There are some issues with side missions. You can't pick more than one, like in TES. And if you want to finish everything, you are forced to be frolicking around to many times to be enjoyable.
I'm really hoping for sequel... Maybe it's not best choice, but it's spacer's choice.

But then somehow the game devolved into a never ending sequence of fetch quests, backtracks, and boring dialogue with characters I do not care about. The companions are reasonably well written, but I care so little about the locals it hurts. The combat is also really low quality. It is slow, floaty, lacks impact, and the AI is truly horrible. The level of immersion is also very low--inside a space ship where multiple people have referenced how dangerous it is to fire a gun? Well, go ahead and shoot at the giant window. Absolutely nothing happens. No explosive decompression, no gasps of horror, no reaction from the security force. After leveling up dialogue, I can talk my way out of every possible situation, until I can't, then the combat is bad. So I'm stuck either avoiding combat, in which case the game might as well be a novel, or I don't, and I slog through boring combat with no enemy variety or good AI. The one positive is that the hammer is kinda funny at first. I spent 40 bucks on this, and after 16 hours, I'm genuinely disappointed. It takes a lot for me to uninstall a game I paid good money for, but somehow this game did it. Expand

It's literally the best Fallout game. I didn't play with New Vegas, but because of that, I will definitely play it in a few days. I really like the fact, that there is choices what have consequences, and there is the humor, which was really funny for me sometimes.

World itself is just kinda predicatble srry. Still, your sidekicks are better than Anthem where you have no sidekicks but a bunch of zombies with you in Fort Tarsis.

Bad boring repetitive gunplay. Awful optimisation. Invisible walls. Boring perks (+20% this, +20% that). Bland 2D characters. Fetch quests. Generic story.

After trying to give this game a chance for about 10 hours of struggle, I gave up. It's a half-baked **** riding on a back of Fallout: New Vegas. If I could refund this, I would.

    Cons- Very boring gunplay
    -Lack of good looting system
    -Game looks dated
-Your choices just ultimately do not matter, it just comes with multiple ways to do one thing
    -Lack of affect of choices
-No real reason for you to feel obliged to do the main story
-Swarms upon swarms of bullet spongy enemies
-Lack of things outside of settlements
-Tons upon tons of fetch quests
-The outside environment is an eyesore and is awful to play in. Swarms upon swarms of enemies wait for you there

    Overall: 5/10
The game just feels rushed, with so much potential it almost falls flat. Th environments feel stale and old after 3 minutes of being in them. The outside environments are horrible to play in and look at. The fantastic writing and dialogue is overshadowed by this huge smudge of bad gameplay and it brings the whole game down.

That's honestly the only thing I consider well done about this game. No single element stands on its own as something unique or innovative. Now, not all games need to innovate to be enjoyable, sure, but the mechanics are weak with no exceptions and the gameplay loops themselves simply aren't entertaining, let alone compelling. Character development is a joke. Collecting items has no purpose -- this diminishes the importance of exploration massively. Dialogs are an attempt at a literal joke that falls flat. The characters are just... bland. The story suffers from such a severe lack of [insert literally anything you would want from a game plot here]. There's more personality in a voiceless Rimworld pawn than you'll get from any character in TOW.

I might have enjoyed this when I was ten (the demographic I have to assume all the high scores are coming from) but this is not worth the time or money if you value either. I expected better from Obsidian, but now I'm going to pass on their games for a few years thanks to this profoundly unsatisfying release.

Defenders will excuse shortcomings on it having a lower budget than the big boys. First of all, Obsidian should be keenly aware of budgetary concerns by now, after decades of working with less than AAA budgets, and secondly, good low-budget games focus on their strengths and trim excess fat. The Outer Worlds simply fails to focus on anything. They overextended, they underdelivered, and everything about this game suffers as a result.

I'm not leaving a bad review out of spite or some misguided blind-faith loyalty to another company. I've followed Obsidian for years, back in the Black Isle days, through the Troika phase, all the way up until today. I've supported probably dozens of their games over the years because they delivered really enjoyable games more often than not. I wanted to enjoy this, I tried, but after 20 thoroughly disappointing hours I truly just feel that this game utterly fails to deliver on everything it set out to do.

I expected a game in the range of Fallout New Vegas and Mass Effect - Outer Worlds seemed to aim to target that action-RPG niché, which was left unsatisfied since Mass Effect 3.

The graphics are nice and colorful, the combat, for the most part, was fluent and without major problems. The voice acting (English) was decent enough, so the game had lots of potential to be very immersive.

    Immersion:
Sadly, this potential was not tapped into. The first city was probably the most fun in the entire game, with minor surprises, believable characters, and overall design. Over the course of the game, it deteriorated away to nothing, sadly. This is enhanced by the fact that the game has a very forgettable soundtrack.
The companions stayed flat and boring, of which only two of the six have a meaningful storyline, the same problems were repeated over and over again, and the most obvious solutions were always the best ones.

Even though the game wants to make you think that you have a choice, it really doesn't matter. To verify this, I killed the entire first town in a second playthrough right off the start, and it had virtually no impact on any of the following dialogs. Going so far as using the information you would've gotten from a character can still be used, even though I never talked to them.

This led to the fact that I had the deepest bond in the entire game was made with my weapons, which leads to:

    RPG Elements
The potential for your character customization at the start is great. You have a decent array of skills and perks. Perks are usually gained every couple levels. Sometimes you get the neat option to get a "flaw", a decrease in stats in certain situations for a bonus perk point, which was probably the most fun idea in the entire game, gameplaywise. Contrary to New Vegas or Mass effect, the new Dialogueoptions you get via skill points and level are very minor, and has the most effect on

    Combat:
As stated, the combat was fluent and solid for the most part. But it is very soured by the fact that there are only 5 different kinds of enemies, which all have the same ~5 subclasses. (Brawler, ranged fighter, support, Boss, etc.) - with only one major bossfight with unique mechanics in the entire game.

This makes combat really repetitive. And since you're "encouraged" by the tinkering tool, which gives you the option to enhance a weapon by pumping bits (the currency) into it, and the fact that you spend skillpoints to be better with certain weapons, you usually stick with very few weapons over the course of the game.

    Conclusion:
Overall, the game just feels unfinished. Even though I had my fair share of fun in certain situations, when I saw the ending credits, it moved nothing in me. From the start of the game until the very end nothing really changes, no big plot twists (Well they tried, obviously, it just left me uncaring).

If you really, really have a ME/Fallout itch, this is at least a placebo. It is playable, but dont expect to get the same kind of investment out of it.

I'll never understand why they didn't expand the Valentine noir detective into a separate game it would have been an immediate buy for me, love noir. It's certainly pretty to look at and has a decent story of a dystopian corporate space future, very much a marxist socialism loving theme we've seen since at least the Alien franchise. I would never personally be in any situation where my whole being was dependent absolutely, for long time periods, on a profit seeking "person" corporation/government and that includes all types of governments. Space would be one case, another submarines, airplanes, hospitals you name it. My biggest gripe is that it's not that big, there are only a few worlds but I suppose one of the big talking points is that it's not ponderously long game but to me FO4 wasn't that either, only jubisoft megagames like ac odyssey, later far crys etc would fit that description. Origins didn't even fit that, Just Cause games would if you are dull enough to play them past the main story, or at all really. People say it's very generic but that's just because it doesn't have the lineage of FO etc if they make sequel it would have that and be rated better. But yeah the story wasn't about characters it was about dystopian space corporations so characters are largely forgettable. These big devs are just neo-marxists, antichristians and purveyors of time wasting mind control products. You can see the SJW aspects in these types of games all over the place. Expand

New Vegas'a benzeyen bir diğer şeyse combat'ın dandikliği.

You really need to pick a design philosophy and stick with it, are you a railroad experience or open world? The environments in this game are laughable If you want to view this as open world but the risk taken to attempt a game with an open world feel without the scope and volume of content is admirable. Lets just chalk this up to a good old college try that failed shall we.

From a mission standpoint how does this semi open world actually effect things? Rather negatively I'm afraid. You spend a good majority of time walking from point a to point b and either gathering an item, killing a bad guy or talking to someone. Thats what this game boils down to, the trick with other games of this ilk, is that they manage to weave an interesting narrative that makes it worth it, this game fails to do that and in an attempt to maximise the sense of scale in its open areas will have you backtracking and running off over the same old ground time and time again criss crossing all over the place just to really try and give you that sense of "I'm in an open area". Let me tell you somthing, people don't want to see the same 1 mile square of territory for 15 hours of gameplay, this isn't 2001. Open worlds only really work in the exploration genre if you're exploring NEW areas.

Fallout and elderscrolls pull it off because you're in a pretty believable world, and are large enough that even when back tracking between locations you will always inevitably discover somthing new along the way. The maps are too small in this game to do that leaving the game with the worst parts of open world and none of its benefits.

As for the weapons and armour and general charecter design? Abysmal. It's just weird for the sake of being weird, ninety percent of the weapons and armour do not look appealing or cool in any way, they just look weird and contrived, almost rushed in their design, like yeah just slap some pipes on that bit, and a couple fins on that, add a bit of retro flair and a colour scheme thats a bit clashing a gaudy that makes no sense from a colour theory or pallete standpoint. This whole game looks like someone just chucked the contents of a toy box from the mid 90s into a blunderbuss and shot it onto the screen. WHAT am I looking at here?! Was there any design philosophy behind the aesthetics of this game? Don't even get me STARTED about that ridiculous moon head in this game, I love a bit of humour especially dark humour but it's really not as great as you think it is guys, I really get the feeling that everyone involved in this game was super proud of it but it's not funny or interesting "hur hur man have silly face and big head" fantastic, high fives all round guys, smh.

Then theres the choices and outcomes, it's pretty standard really, theres a good outcome and a bad outcome, side with a corporation that says and does ludicrously ridiculous things like expects people to live solely off canned fish that is poisoning people and won't allow its work force access to health care thus killing off its workforce it relies on to sustain itsself. Even the most basic of bi*ches wouldn't do this and the whole entire game is stuffed to the brim with contrived nonesense like this "hur hur corps bad guys" Yeah we know man, we know.

The outcomes of these missions have little impact on the world either, really getting tired of this illusion of choice and freedom in rpg's that hold your hand and have no actual consequences. The whole concept of choice in this game is like someone is letting you choose between two coridoors that ultimately lead to identical rooms except one room is blue and one is green. Who cares man, who actually cares, can we start implimenting choice in some actual impactful ways guys? please oph god please, I'm so sick of this song and dance it's actually depressing me.

This is the kind of game where you know it's going to be average as hell going into it and you really just don't even care when it inevitably is bad because I mean just look at it just sit back and let this one die guys this doesn't deserve to be given the chance to even have the dev team lie to themselves that this is a good game.

You really have to wonder what kind of brain dead individual thinks that this is a good game and managed to play it for more than ten hours.

I really wanted to LOVE this game, but somehow it just doesn't capture me to keep going. It's mostly fine! Which maybe is the real issue? It feels way too easy, light on the roleplaying, and while combat can be somewhat satisfying, the weapon diversity isn't enough to keep me coming back. Some of the locales are fun, but they haven't been enough to keep me engaged in the experience.

Buggy garbage. I played the first 4 hours without realizing there was a bug that made the saves fail silently. Lost all my progress. The game had already been out for a year and they hadn't bothered patching this game-breaking bug!

I've been a gamer for over 30 years and have over 1000 games. I've never been so disappointed by such trash.

2* because the start was fun.

Companions actually don't bring that much to the table and you will most likely choose your companions based on your play-style to boost the stats you need at a certain time.

Environments are pretty neat but maps are rather small and don't really have all that much on them.
Weapons are pretty meh and unfortunately most armors look exactly the same with just some color variations. As I've seen some people comment on the item list seemed to have been padded out with consumables and vendor items to fill out the rather lackluster weapon and armor selection.

There really is no point in going melee either considering that ranged weapons are so much better and unless you manage to sneak up on your enemies you can get killed rather quickly trying to fight in melee.

Overall though the game has a decent story, the game-play is solid and in this day and age that is high praise when compared to other games. Especially when you consider that most games released nowadays are a broken mess.

Good story writing, characters and dialogue system, while playing I encountered no bugs through the 12 hour gameplay, The combat system was average for me. Upgrading the skills were not that significant, and it would have took to much to maximize them.

Overall, I believe it's nothing less than a good game. On the other hand, it's also nothing more than just good, and where I have seen, especially in the professional critics space, the game often lauded as Obsidian's return to form, I would argue if you want to experience something close to KOTOR 2, or even the high moments of Neverwinter Nights 2 and Fallout: New Vegas, you will have to reach out for Tyranny or the Pillars of Eternity games instead.

Another thing I have seen pop up several times is "Fallout: NV, but in space" - and you could not be further from truth. Perhaps the only things that tie the two games (aside from the studio itself) are the use of a simplistic and overtuned weapon durability system and a silent MC. TOW is not Obsidian's attempt to do a complete version of FO:NV in space, but rather, an attempt to make their own Mass Effect, more specifically a trilogy / series setup of Mass Effect 1, where you build a team of specialists and run around trying to save the galaxy (with two teammates at a time), or with the humbler TOW - one solar system.

To be fair, it's pretty challenging to be completely original, if not impossible at this point, and the game does a lot to fix the issues of ME1. However, it also brings a couple new issues of its own, a lot of it due to Obsidian's attempt to make the game, especially in terms of the characters "quirky and original", and as a result, turning quite a few of them into some twitteresque morons. At the same time, the game often repeats some pretty stale tropes - and does it multiple times, sometimes within the span of couple minutes. For example, in the opening scene, which probably everyone already saw, as it is a part of the promotional materials for the game, the pre-teen cartoon trope of mad scientists gadgets not working so he has to push a button multiple times for it to miraculously work is used twice, in a span of some 4-5 minutes! I've lambasted Crackdown 3 for this recently, and I will say it again here: If you say or do something retarded, stating "Actually I was only pretending to be retarded!" afterwards doesn't fix or excuse your prior behavior, but makes you look even more retarded. "We were only doing a satire of stereotypes!" - Yeah, but you still flooded your game with characters based off of them, and in addition, you further made it worse by making them more fitting for a Tom & Jerry episode than an M rated game.

That being said, there are some genuinely interesting things about most of the characters, and there are moments where they have really well written and believable dialogue, but this makes things even worse, because it really clashes with their dumbass behavior outside of these moments. Honestly, it reminds me of Guardians of the Galaxy, except the writers weren't really able to balance out and connect the wacky and serious moments, and so the game feels disjointed and goes from bat crap insane to noir thriller to realistic interpersonal relations drama and then back again all in the span of a few moments.

This is probably the largest complaint overall, actually. The game is disjointed, because it tries to be multiple things. It's trying to be ME1, a wacky parody of ME1, and an original Obsidian game, and is neither as a result. In some cases, you make a really big decision, and in one affected place you see a huge change, and in another, which should have a similar large effect applied to it, you get a one-liner mention of the whole thing and then nothing else. Some individual rare weapons are really interesting and original, but the weapon roster in general is just heaps of the same crap with the occassional "+3 fire damage". There's a bunch of factions that supposedly focus on different things, but they all use the same armor and weapons, just different colors, and so on.

The game does fix some issues of ME1 though - specifically, the "worlds" you visit are more condensed, there's much less running around tons of large and near completely barren maps, the pacing, especially in case of side content, is much much better as a result. The simplistic karma system is replaced with a much better one with individual relations with each faction, and your individual decisions themselves play a larger role, the dialogues are much better and most often not constrained to paragon/renegade/neutral/ask-question, and feel more natural, and so on.

The game also has a very distinct graphical style, a retro-futuristic mix between wild west and art deco and a few other elements, all locations and planets are pretty distinct and well crafter from design perspective.

Anyways, in the end, the game is saved by a few great moments and a handful of well thought out and implemented mechanics and design choices that stand well above the rest of the game, and I mean a lot above the rest of the game. Without them, solid 3/10.

To wszystko łączy się w naprawdę spójny i przede wszystkim interesujący i nietypowy świat przedstawiony. Ogólne nastroje panujące wśród ludzi przypominają te spotykane w falloucie, oczywiście z lekkim korporacyjnym twistem, to w połączeniu z retrofuturyzmem, daje naprawdę nietypową mieszankę.
    OPRAWA AUDIOWIZUALNA
Powoduje to czasami opuszczenie kilku pobocznych questów a niektóre z nich prezentują naprawdę przyzwoity poziom i poza wprowadzaniem nas w klimat czy nastroje społeczne w danym miejscu, często też dostarczają nam naprawdę ciekawą historię.
    MODEL STRZELANIA

I cannot says for the storymode because 37 minutes in, i just got a refund from steam.

There isn't a LOT of enemy variety but the ones you face are quite well designed, they're different enough and have their own strengths and weaknesses.

That being said, the game lacked any challenging content on any of the builds I have tried on the hard difficulty (full melee, sneak, guns blazing), the enemy A.I. is easy to overcome and the combat stats that you are able to get even early on end up overpowering them quite easily.

Supernova difficulty makes you pay more attention in managing your consumables and taking certain fights more carefully because you can't save but in the end the unique mechanics of the difficulty make the game more annoying rather than challenging.

Your companions have their own quest which is usually pretty good in terms of offering them character development but I wish they got more than just that.

The main story is quite short but it does offer different endings due to its branching narratives, although to be perfectly honest I've only found a handful of decisions to be somewhat hard to make due to their morally grey characteristics. Unless you're roleplaying an overtly evil character without any moral consideration then it's pretty obvious what you would choose to do most of the time. It's worth mentioning that there are a few side quests and areas that contain some endearing or humorous stories, especially if you bother reading messages on terminals as well for more context. I do wish they had more of those and cut back on some of the standard fetch/kill quests.

The dialogue is witty and creative most of the time. and the voice acting is quite good.

The sounds, music and graphics don't stand out in terms of overall quality but the world they've crafted is brimming with color and style. The character models and face animations could benefit from more polish.

There are some unique science weapons that can make the combat a lot more fun so I'd definitely recommend trying to find them.

Overall, it's an enjoyable game especially if you like the setting and premise.

-- All of this wouldn't be a big problem if this game has a decent autosave mechanism. Sadly, it doesn't. Autosave is next to non-existent. You rely on your own manual saves.

This is truly a laughable piece of terrible spaghetti coding. I believe somewhere during the process of developing this game, the developer found out their open-world and open-end approach had just gone out of hand, so they invented this concept of "botched missions", so even if the player messed up all the missions, they can still "finish" the game. What a lame cop-out solution.

If you do want to try this game, read guides [diligently] and [in detail]. The game will be spoiled for you, but at least you don't have to restart the whole game just because you went to the wrong place at the wrong time.

The problem with this isn't that it is a bad game (far from it), but the fact that it failed to reach its true potential… or maybe the expectations were simply too high, because there's nothing here that anyone can point to and say that it is terrible. Sadly, there's almost nothing that's great either, apart from the role-playing element and the quality of writing. The gunplay? Ok. The exploration? Decent. The plot? Fine. The dominant feeling here is of a game that is good enough so that you won't hate it, but also not as good for it to be the flawless classic that it could definitely be - but again, that's probably those darn high expectations speaking, because flaws or no flaws, The Outer Worlds shouldn't be missing from any RPG collection.

Usually, a planet has just one or two settlements and a bit of wildlands to explore. But that’s for the best – instead of exploring miles of filler content, Outer Worlds keeps you moving from planet to planet, from one tense situation to another. [Issue#241, p.34]
