I've never written a review on here, but felt this one needed some defending.

Outer Worlds isn't reinventing the wheel by any means here, but what it does do is highlight a lot of classic RPG aspects without wasting your time in the process. The dialogue options are very well branched, and often times well hidden. Obsidian are almost the godfathers of this sort of dialogue gameplay,

Other than that, I was really surprised how good the gunplay felt after getting used to it, and the VATS-styled ability does a good job in keeping it smooth and familiar. The environments are also very colorful, and not straining on the eyes, which I feel sometimes studios never quite get dialed in correctly.

All things considered, the Outer Worlds is a rock-solid RPG that doesn't try to do anything it shouldn't. Everyone knew they were getting a full game with no micro-transactions, and getting what they were paying for. In my opinion, that alone is adds another aspect that should be commended.

This game focuses heavily on story, and world building while still maintains very fun combat and exploration mechanics that we’ve all come to love in our first person RPG titles. Honestly I did my very best to not spoiler anything for myself and to go in knowing as little as possible and boy have I been rewarded. I created a meta critic account just for this review. It’s a solid 8 out of 10. GO BUY IT or get it off the Xbox game pass for $5 the first month like I did. This is a MUST play experience if you have been severely disappointed by another shattered company... cough cough. Bethesda. This is RPG done right. Play on super nova. GO Expand

Bethesda should be ashamed. The outer worlds is everything a fallout game should be, the character interaction options are so deep you could drown in them, the gunplay and gameplay is spot on and no single build wins, there are options for everything, from someone who sneaks around fights.and talks their wy out of others, to characters who go in everywhere all guns blazing. The companions have a "life" to them that I've not seen in YEARS; instead of the usual "please sidekick and romance" option you get real storylines and personalities for each member of your crew.
The amount of quest outcomes is staggering too and greatly adds to the replayability factor of the game.
There are a few bugs and issues with the game right now but they are bearable and I've yet to encounter something game-breaking.
All in all if you want a story driven, lore heavy, first person action RPG then you should buy or "try" The Outer Worlds.
It's a welcome break from the usual AAA garbage that gets churned out.

One thing I find surprising is the people claiming that this is an SJW game, as "the board" reminds me most of the Chinese Communist Party; where workers are treated as party (or in the outer worlds; company) property. They must not have.any real idea of political systems (and probably support Donald "Israel First" Trump) though setting that aside you can work for the board, it is an RPG. It doesn't say group A is evil thus you must kill them. I suggest the people calling this an SJW game recheck their reality, even the character creation only has two gender options, something which will be "broadened" in Cyberpunk 2077.
Of you think this is an SJW game you are an NPC; not a leftist NPC but the Trump cheerleader NPC. At least the settlements in The Outer Worlds have walls.

If you are a fan of Star Wars, if you are a fan of Firefly or its movie Serenity this game is a must. IMHO the only con for the game is that it's too short. Had to play it through twice

9/10 (Giving it 10 because a lot of people gave it 0 which is totally undeserving)

This is a breath of fresh air in a world and time when literally every game tag itself as an RPG doesn't even have much RP elements in it.

This game is not an AAA game but you can clearly feel the amount of love developers put into this game.

    1. Story and side quests are short. Could be double the length.
    2. Gameplay is very easy, even in hard difficulties.
    3. Everywhere in the game is filled with same useless loot (millions of bullets and food and so on all around)
    4. Very few rare/gold/epic/whatever usable items (except 3 science weapons, which are useless). All the rest are standardized...

Game designers need to realize the killing effect of this "standardizing" in recent games..
Chaos is what makes the world flow, not order. You need to implement chaotic features into the game, to allow for great and unexpected experiences. Some very hard bosses, some unbalanced weapons and so on. Fallout 2 wasn't so much fun because everything was standard. Life doesn't work that way. Standardizing is totally boring and removes all fun. Please go ask Blizzard and learn from their mistakes. Ask them why people reverted to totally unbalanced and chaotic Vanilla.. Was it because it was nostalgia, or because the experience felt better.

Still giving the game a 10, because it deserves a flat 8-9, which some people won't be giving due to other reasons.

Outer Worlds is an open-world RPG that is fantastic and worth your money. The game is stunning and not too hard to run on your computer, the story I find is mediocre but the side quests are amazing and worth the time to go through on your first run. It's a true RPG allowing you to become who you want and not some Fallout 4 trash where everything is already there for you. The combat is dull at first but becomes progressively better with the introduction of companions in a mass effect style and also the introduction of science weapons and special weapons spice up the gameplay. Companions also have special moves and slightly unique skill trees. I do think there is a lack of standard unique guns to use and eventually it becomes dull. Also, the game is wayyyyyy toooo easy on normal, definitely play on hard to have an enjoyable experience that's challenging,
The setting, each planet at least has one special creature and unique humans. The cities do feel a little copy and pasted but the environments on the planets are diverse. The cities feel lively with filler citizens talking constantly and unique NPC's with great side quests or tasks. I've only encountered two side quests that have bored me in my own experience. The planets feel lively and also gruesome with some pretty dark and menacing areas. The game is also beautiful and I've caught myself looking at the sky for minutes at a time.
The creation menu and leveling are interesting at first and I do like how the skills are arranged. The skills are arranged in certain categories like strength and perception and on average each of these categories have three skills. You can upgrade each of these categories increasing all of the skills under the category but once the skill gets to fifty you have to upgrade the skills separately. Also every two levels you get a choice of a perk, it's kinda boring in my opinion since none of the perks have any interesting benefits. You can also gain perks through flaws, for example, if you take damage from falling too much you will get a phobia of heights which subtracts some skills but you can gain a perk but instead you do have the option of rejecting flaws which I always did since perks were not a huge deal. The creation of your character's physical appearance is a little lacking with hairs, face shapes, and facial hair having a lack of options.
This section will be very short and it's about bugs, I encountered one bug related experience in the game and that was a barrier on a mountain which I found to be weird but it didn't hinder my experience.
Now to talk about the story which I find to be pretty dull, the main story is funny in my opinion but it is not focused on at all and you have no incentive to do anything in the story. I wasn't attached to anybody related to the main story except my companions. I do think the story is creative with its witty irony and jokes, but otherwise, the main story is boring and probably one of the worst elements of the game funny enough.
Looting and inventory in the game sometimes are funky, the ship you have has basically infinite storage but there is a huge amount of consumables in the game that you will pick up and not use. They will clutter your inventory and do not pick them up unless you are playing on the hardest difficulty which has a hunger bar mechanic.
    TLDR;
Pros: Fantastic side quests, a fantastic blend of other game's mechanics, great companions, decent combat after the first hour, funny, a very very hard mode, cool special weapons, fantastic environments that are stunning, great unique NPC's, towns feel real, cool innovative skill system, basically no bugs in my experience, replayable game, and a true RPG.
Cons: Dull main story, perk system (not skills) is useless, the physical creation menu is basic, too easy on normal, funky lootings system, and a lack of interesting standard weapons.
Overall the positives outweigh the negatives and the negatives are not a problem at all really. The game is short but is replayable with multiple endings and is what the bar for a modern RPG should be. You are able to be who you want which is more than what RPG's now in days can offer. Outer Worlds is way better than fallout 4 and is better than Fallout 3 in my opinion. I say give it a shot at least and if you don't trust epic games buy it off of humble bundle or wait till 2020. Thank you for reading and I hope you'll like the game as much as I did.

What Fallout 76 should have been!

This is how you make a good open worlds action role-playing game. Good story and it seemed like choices actualy mattered. Runs perfectly fine on my half decent pc. The only reason I'm not giving it a 8/10 is because I had some bugs while looting resulting that some loot got lost before I could pick it up but thjs did not happen too often.

This game isn't FNV, it's not a diamond in the rough, it's an exceptionally beautiful set of narratives and characters that are at times slightly flawed and could use some external consultation, which I'll partially attribute to budget and an unforgiving release schedule, but gameplay/graphics are primitive, no crafting, no weapon diversity, none of the things which went into and made hits of the games obviously inspiring this, Borderlands had dynamic weapon diversity, Mass Effect had strong character agency, Fallout had diverse environmental story telling, tonnes of discoverable notes/info not related to the primary campaign and persistent object interaction all of which spells "immersion" .

Survival is also a nightmare, companion permadeath would be fine if it wasn't so easy for them to get their faces blown off and ineffective controls to prevent said faces from gleefully escaping mortal trappings. Survival shouldn't be a difficulty setting, it should be about survival, and given the lack of a dynamic world that's exponentially harder than it is in FNV/f4 etc. Punitive gameplay mechanics don't enrich an experience when they're presented as absolutes with limited alternate routes and extremely finite choices, that sort of thing hearkens back to the 90's when games were typically an hour or two long and your choices were to jump fire, miss and die or jump fire, don't miss and not die.

Also the landslide of reviews giving it ridiculously high scores are dubious as hell, but if that's what you need to get your bonus due to aforementioned monsters i'm there for you with a 10/10 also. But please try harder to realize your vision, and I don't mean at your craft which is clearly peak, I mean the general practice of managing talent, you have the people and the talent - how is it being used? who sets your release schedule and how do their ethics interact with your own? these are dire times for this form of game and both you and your fans deserve better. Break free of slavery, re-finance your house and do a kickstarter, let us prove to you we can carry you with a bundle of cashmoneydollars. This game is Leaps ahead of ANYTHING Bethesda has put out since **** Skyrim, it ha integrated mechanics of the most popular and endorsed mods of Fallout new vegas and even Fallout 4, aside from the characteristics that made New Vegas great in the first place, like great dialogue and role-playing options.
And while addressing New Vegas, some of the comparisons are just plain stupid: have you all even played Vegas at launch? IT WAS AN UNPLAYABE BUG Fest, and even to this day it remains bug ridden, with shoddy shooter combat (thanks to Bethesda's oblivion old engine), contingent CTDs and unfinished mechanics (look up J. Sawyersc own Overhaul mod anywhere to get what I'm saying). .This game is not perfect but sure as hell doesn't deserve the criticism it's getting. For you all wondering if you should by IT, Do it without a doubt, if you liked classic RPGs of this decade, you won't regret it.

I won't be making a full review since I did not didn't played it yet the end it yet (and this is one major problem, people are making full out reviews a day into the launch week ffs), but I am thrilled by the effort Obsidian put into this, and it saddens me greatly to see crybabys bashing this out of proportion because it didn't live up to the unreachable hype they built into it (If new Vegas were to be re-released I can GUARANTEE it would not live to the image some of the people here have of it in their minds).

Good story. Fun dialogue. Fun combat. Interesting skills and perks. Amazing art and music....

Story is amazing, companions are well written and have a decent combat AI driving them, worlds are vibrant and alive. Additionally lots of little things: random banter, on ship routines for companions, trophies in the captain's cabin, etc., add even more to an already fun experience.

Look forward to DLC and, hopefully, mods in the future.

the combat feels great, the weapons feel like they work like they should, and melee only is a viable build. i would definitely suggest to check out the ''below average intelligence'' attribute, since it allows for ''dumb'' conversation responses, and to see how NPC's react to the weirdness is a delight.

i can really feel the love that obsidian put in the game, there are so many options to choose from instead of generic ''yes'' or ''no'' answers
and they may not affect the final result of a conversation but to me it's all about how a NPC responds to your choices.

the depth and background feels so great of the NPC's. i really feel like they have their own voice about their life, and honest personalities and i never got tired of dialogue, i usually skip through them fast in other games but this one has me wanting to hear more.
even logs around the world seem worthwhile reading instead of the usual ''space filler content'' that you come across where the logs are just useless pieces of junk that waste your time.

it's a roleplay game with adventure and it feels awesome to discover new things, and to have this really random conversation with a salesman wearing a moon hat about how he is doing mentally in his job and life. RPG lovers would most likely really enjoy this game for how refined this game is.
i've only done a melee playthrough so far, but i am using ranged weapons on the side (mostly heavy) and the melee moveset isn't really anything spectacular but it still feels good to use, likely due to the dodge mechanic that allows you to leap at enemies or dash out the way of hazards.

the only thing that i've seen that annoys me is that when you want to loot/pick something up, your crosshair has to be DIRECTLY on top the item/corpse, unlike other games where your crosshair can be ''around'' the object you wanna loot, and still allowing you to do so. But on the other hand, this isn't necessarily negative, because it allows for precise selection, where you don't get the awkward '' i want to select item #1, but item #2's hitbox is too large and i can't select the first one. so it isn't really a flaw with the game in my opinion.

i would recommend this game to anyone willing to give it a try or watch gameplay of the first hour or so, and if it doesn't capture you in the first hour, then i'm going to say: this may not be the game for you, and that's fine, something like ''the perfect game'' which appeals to 100% of the people, doesn't exist. but man can i tell you in my opinion does this game gets dangerously close. Obsidian sure deserve some love and support for making this game, which might after enough appreciation be in the top 10 games of 2019. it might just reach that due to being a game that got released with 0 bugs, i have around 20 hours of gameplay and i haven't seen a single one, hardly heard about them from others either. because developers like to make games ''early access'' and use that as an excuse to release a game that is not refined in any way, and this is a delight to enjoy without anything game breaking.

also a niche little tip, that occured to me when i reached level 10 and i was like: hmm, lockpicks are kind of hard to come by if you want to unlock almost every door or lock you come across: ''quick save before opening a lock'' if it wasn't worth the lockpick(s) just quick load, and move on. (only applies if you don't feel bad for ''savescumming'' ofcourse)

    TL;DR
Great game, definitely worth a try
    8/10 combat
    9/10 content
    10/10 gameplay
    10/10 ingame (false) advertisements
    lovable characters and background story
    0-1 bug(s), really refined (i didn't experience any)
    0 micro transactions
    100% worthy of your appreciation

Companion interactions, while smaller, are deeper and more meaningful. The story, while shorter, is more emotive. Every single thing you do has consequences, and those consequences don't feel like they're at the mercy of an unrealistic numerical system, like in many comparable games. The ending (no spoilers) reflects many, MANY choices you made during the game, and every single consequence makes sense. The advancement system is more pleasant to work with, while still being exciting. The gunplay is more fun. The weapon mods, while less extensive (remember: smaller game), are easier to understand, require no grinding/scavenging, and make the weapons not just more effective, but more fun to use. The NPCs are deep. Character customization is a lot of fun. The characters in the game don't all look like they have disfiguring birth defects (looking at you, Elder Scrolls). The dialogue is realistic. The graphics are astounding. (I repeatedly found myself just staring at stuff.) There are numerous hilarious "Easter eggs" that are fun when you find them, but are not required to enjoy the game. (Examples: there is one document where they mention "turoencabulator"--look that up on YouTube; there is another place where you can discuss the merits of a "suggestion box" with a quest giver, to hilarious effect.) The flaws system is fun, if somewhat hazardous.

You really should buy this game or play it as part of a subscription service. Currently, XBox Game Pass (beta) lets you get this game and a gaggle of others for 3 months, for just $1...

Of course, like any game, it isn't 100% perfect (just mostly so). You can seriously mess up your character if you take the wrong flaws. Don't take flaws that reduce your temperament, or you'll no longer be able to regenerate health without using items. Still, unlike with many comparable games, I didn't run into anything where I said to myself, "This is broken". I don't doubt that someone will be able to come up with things they don't like about this game, and that's OK; but I honestly can't find any noteworthy flaws with it.

This game is a masterpiece. If you like the FPSRPG genre, you owe it to yourself to play it.

History = Surprisingly, it is something new. The concept of Corporationalism is funny. I don't feel the SJW (a religion that I don't follow) is involved in this game.

There are a lot of familiar tropes to be found in The Outer Worlds. The most obvious point of comparison is the Fallout franchise. Certainly the cyberpunk space mash up with 50's styled nostalgia does speak to this game.

Some have called this game average. I think that's because so much that's similar has gone before. I prefer to call it "polished". Its a beautiful game with an immersive open world. If you like linearity this might annoy you somewhat. I would say some of the wandering around can get tiresome. That said, there's goodies to pick up, fully fledged and well thought out RPG style character building system including weapons, armor and skills. You can pass some of these benefits on to companion characters too.

I'll add unlike some titles this one is in my experience bug free. It loads and plays seamlessly. When you consider the amount of poorly tested crap that comes out of some major studios, this is a great effort from this games developers. They obviously care about more than the players money.

I really really like this game. Sure it does what other's have done but it does it better, with more skill and flair. 8/10 from me.

The companions are sort of interesting.

It's short for an RPG which is probably the only good thing as you wouldn't want to play this for long anyway. This is a mediocre very average game. Nothing amazing or fantastic about it. I am not sure how long I played it for as I often left the game running when I wasn't playing.

The game is sort of alright but I mostly felt bored playing it. I sort of like the game but also don't like it. I feel like I don't care if I never played it and would not be missing out on anything if I didn't excpet not knowing that it's not worth playing.

Nothing really new. Personally, I wish this style of game had better graphics, so it left a bit of a mediocre feel. However, I played it through, so I give it a rating of 7.

For an RPG the dialog and choices are just blend, it lacks meaning and dept. For a shooter the graphics are bad, and the gameplay is clunky.

Great game. If you enjoyed New Vegas and wanted a current fallout type game this is it. I'm very satisfied after years of waiting on something decent from Bethesda that never came out. Not a perfect game. But manages to be the fallout type game I was looking for without all the bugs and better inventory sorting.

DON'T BE FOOLED BY THE TRAILERS! This game is mediocre!

I bought this game on EGS with an awesome discount code coupon + regional pricing, and the great price I got is the only thing that makes me not regret buying this game! First things first: the dialogues are mostly amazing in this game. If this game was supposed to be only a dialogue simulator, I would probably rate it 9/10.

    But this is not.
This was advertised as a FPS/RPG that had at least a minimally deep trope but it all just came out as one of the most hypocritical and shallow plot argument that I've ever seen in any RPG game. It is filled with teeganer edgyness in what could actually be some valid points on their arguments of anticorporations or anti-anarcocapitalism, but then the game goes against itself bringing "cool edgy" anarchists who fight against capitalism, yo! And all that with the most shallow arguments ever, which are the ones coming from ignorance of people that confuse capitalism with anarco-capitalism and welfare state with socialism (or communism). Too bad the plot argument creator of this game clealy missed his science politics classes.
The FPS is also very weak - not only because it is clunky but also because there are less than 10 different kinds of guns and the general weapon upgrades are way too limited.

With all that edgyness and shallow arguments one can easily understand how blatantly weak is the plot.

The story was reasonably interesting with a nice variety of NPCs to interact with. Voice-acting and art were of good quality.

Occasionally the keyboard controls were non-obvious, so I had to get a cheat sheet from the web. The retro-themed furnishings and tech seemed out of place, given FTL drives. The launcher is not ready for prime time: on my WinX system with reasonably capable hardware, the launcher was unable to reliably update the cloud saves it insisted on. I wound up with some annoying delays while it tried and tried, and some very kludgy starts near the end. Playtime was relatively short for the price, though it depends on how thoroughly you explore and work the side-quests. Getting into my library at Epic was often impossible due to problems on the website.

Most of this game's problems may be fixed as 2020 ripens, though it surprised me that they weren't already. It's entertaining but not best-in-show.

I unfortunately cannot do the right thing and refund it, but I will revise this review regardless. Automatic 0.

Frankly one of the best games of the 2010's and now one of my favorite games overall. The setting, the characters, the story, the choices, the only negative that I can think of it is that I'm going to be stuck judging other RPG's by the measure set by this game, and those shoes are going to be very hard to fill indeed.

One of the better games I have played recently.
But giving 10/10 is too much in my eyes, while the game is good I wouldn't rate it so high for few reasons.
-Areas felt empty. Some were worse than other. -Leveling some skills is waste of points (Basically level up all the skills that help in dialogue since combat skills don't affect the gameplay much) -A lot of useless perks -Story

    -A lot of useless perks
-Story was OK, but like a lot of games it was predictable
-I hated the sections where you used the holo-disguise
-Quite a bit of loading screens, but since my PC is a powerhouse it wasn't that big of a deal for me.
-And few random crashes, the worst offender was in the last mission of the game, went inside the designated area via "sneaky" route and *buff*crash. It continued to happen until I went to YT and was guided to use another door. (Seems to be a bug from a month ago)

    What would I like to see if there is another Outer Worlds;
    -Balancing of the combat
    -Removal of the holo-disguise
    -Less loading screens
    -Areas with more meaning
-And more interaction possibilities with your companions, outside of the "companion" missions the only interaction was between other companions.

Please stop play video games and play a pen and paper rpg. Now for anyone still that believes that it is possible to create a decent rpg on pc. Then you don't really know what an rpg is, go and play baldur's gate and leave us alone.

    Now about Outer worlds.

    Leveling system.
You do stuff you get xp. As long as you use your skills (lockpicking, persuading etc) you get xp to level up. After you level up you choose to what skills you want to allocate your xp points.
Pretty simple stuff here. There are bonuses with one perk per 2 levels and 1 perk per flaw.
You can accept a flaw if you want while you are playing the game.
eg. you took fall damage too many times you can have the cripple flaw and get a bonus perk.

This way you can sort of roleplay if this is your thing but personally I find funny to roleplay on a video game.

    Dialogues:
The characters are colorful and full of charm in my opinion. Every character has something to say in their own perspective and give you a good look on what the world has become.
Skill play small role here as you can unlock shortcuts and benefits through intimidation, persuasion, or lie.

    Gameplay:
For me there are two parts in this game. You talk a lot and then you shoot a lot. The talking part is like a Bethesda game just a little more in depth. You can actually talk down to others and make your job harder or just not take a path the game is set to you. An example is that one of my companions asked me a favor and when we got there I didn't like the quest giver, I was negative to everything he said, in the end I shoot him on the head, killed his entire gang and left his base, simply because I hated him and I didn't want to do his dirty work for him.
It doesn't change much, but there are some choices here and there.

The shooting part is really well made us well. Depending on your skills there are different ways to fight, personally I didn't find it difficult, it was just fun. Your companions have different skills and there are synergies depending on which companion you choose to bring with you.

    Graphics:
The graphics are fine, if you don't like them, then you are the reason that games nowdays are **** It's better to have mediocore graphics and good gameplay than AAAAAAAA+++ graphics and garbage gameplay.

    Bugs:
I haven't had a single problem with the game.

    Level design:
Really nice and compact, instead of having a huge empty map to explore and find nothing at all. Outer worlds has places for you to see in a nice small compact map, divided with building and planets.

    The bottom-line:

The game is as good as it gets with the budget and time they had.

Is it an rpg? Yes, if you think rpgs are levels and skills. No, if you have played a real pen and paper rpg.

Does it worth the money? Definitely, if you like bethesda games (and you are not a crybaby who thinks it's better that anyone because you have played old schools rpgs) and have fun shooting stuff while having a some control on choices.

What's that? you played the game and you didn't liked it? Such life, this is how things work in this world, not everything is for everyone.

All the RPG elements are fairly deep. You can modify/repair/tinker weapons and armors. The acquisition of money and ammo is a must to play. I also focus half my skills to persuasion elements and it worked fairly well too. Exploration is fun and convenient but I would have wished a bit more planets. I didn't find the UI to be perfect, but acceptable. I give it a 82%. Truly enjoyed it and wished it would last 100 hours. Expand

Pretty good game, but I do have a few problems with it.
I am not into RPGs , this one is one of my first and it can be confusing for new players, doesn't explain a lot, the combat can be pretty hard if you dont know what you are doing. UI is also pretty annoying and hard to get my head around too.
Also the lack of romances and NG+ is disappointing. Its also is a pretty progressive

Its also is a pretty progressive SJW game but it thankfully doesn't go into extreme and I can just say no to the LGBT annoying push, also the lack of COOP is disappointing , it would have been amazing to play this with a friend , host would make the choices, wouldn't be hard to do.

-Carga entre lugares, algo que en 2019 no debería pasar, en PC los tiempos son cortos pero supongo que en ps4/xbox serán tediosos cuando tienen que entrar y salir de varios lugares en pocos minutos.

The problem with this isn't that it is a bad game (far from it), but the fact that it failed to reach its true potential… or maybe the expectations were simply too high, because there's nothing here that anyone can point to and say that it is terrible. Sadly, there's almost nothing that's great either, apart from the role-playing element and the quality of writing. The gunplay? Ok. The exploration? Decent. The plot? Fine. The dominant feeling here is of a game that is good enough so that you won't hate it, but also not as good for it to be the flawless classic that it could definitely be - but again, that's probably those darn high expectations speaking, because flaws or no flaws, The Outer Worlds shouldn't be missing from any RPG collection.
