Big fan of the Obsidian Fallout games and the outer worlds is another great game from the studio. In 2019 its hard to find a game that lives up to expectations. I am looking forward to see what they can do in the future!

If you like RPG games, fallout and supporting a great dev team give this game a buy!

Overrated, but really good RPG with multiple choices, fractions, some details from Immersive Sim's you could see like from Bioshock, maybe a little annoying color gamma on planets, but you wil get used to it.

I was waiting for something like this for a long time. Creative and non linear quests, likable characters, outstanding world design, satisfying combat and plenty of rpg elements to tinker with. Can't wait to go back playing it with the new DLCs!

This game had the immersive effect that kept pulling me back in until I finished the game. It has been quite a long time since I've played a game that was able to keep me immersed in its world so fully like this (last time was probably Witcher 3). As most have said this has a very "Fallout" feel to it, but in space.

There are a few things that I think could be improved. The ending feels like it comes too soon, like it finishes a lot of what I wanted to have played, instead its just telling me "and then these other things happened later". If this game has some epic DLCs that come later, perhaps that will help, but as it sits I just wish it went further into the story. Some other small things here and there also were not done to a "10" quality, but other than the story feeling suddenly ended, I could easily forgive any of the other little shortcomings I found here and there.

Just finished the game and I must say this is the type of RPG ive been waiting for after the past 9 years of rushed garbage. A lot of people are going into this game comparing it to Fallout in terms of scale and I think if you do you are making a mistake.

Just finished the game and I must say this is the type of RPG ive been waiting for after the past 9 years of rushed garbage. A lot of people are going into this game comparing it to Fallout in terms of scale and I think if you do you are making a mistake.

The game is definitely more similar to Fallout: New Vegas than anything but it feels more like a hybrid of the original Mass Effect games in terms of length, Fallout: New Vegas in terms of dialog and choices and a bit of Bioshock with the world and combat.

The game might be a little short for some as it took around 25 hours for me to finish the game and probably could have been finished sub 15 if I simply ran through the main story. The side quests in the game however make up for this I feel as they are well written quests with fun objectives and not just tacked on. I personally would see the side quests as part of the main story and should not be avoided.

On my second play-through now and im starting to see the real talent the devs put into the story as there really are different ways to tackle a problem and they haven't made it an obvious good/evil choice like other RPGs. Choices are more grey and what choice you pick might be more related to your political beliefs rather than Option A: Feed the poor or Option B: Burn the orphanage down.

If you are a true RPG lover then you wont really have much to complain about as you get pretty much everything you want, if your in it for a looter shooter you will be dissapointed and if your expecting some kind of massive space opera with dozens of planets and over 1000 NPCs you may want to give this game a pass. What you get here is a well made RPG with heavy character options and replay value.

Let us start by saying that The Outer Worlds is a very good game. It is also a very high quality game. So, why 8 out of 10 instead of 10 out of 10? A couple of things really hold back for me.

    1. I feel it is overpriced for what you get. $60 is a lot of money for such a small and short game. Even with doing all the side missions and visiting all the locales, it is small and short.

For me, this is more a $40 game and I feel that it is the monopoly held on the game by Epic that allows it to succeed at $60. Do try to get it on sale if you can and it will lessen the pain.

    2. For all the content and quality of the game, it feels a little 'light' to me. I just expected to see more depth and breadth in almost every aspect of the game. I was repeatedly having the feeling of "is that it?". What is there is great, but not enough.

So, The Outer Worlds is certainly worth buying, especially if you can get it on sale. The Outer Worlds is certainly worth playing, as long as expectations are tempered with the understanding that this is not going to be an Open-World, 100hr RPG.

The Outer Worlds gives a solid shooter gameplay that you wouldn't get bored of, the story hooks you well and the gameplay mechanics fits the game well, I have only seen 2 bugs after three playthroughs (one was game-breaking but still you could approach the level in another way and the other was just a ragdoll that nocliped), however, i think the developers weren't familiar with the engine or/ due to the limitations that the engine has they couldn't bring that sandboxy feeling that existed on Fallout: New Vegas and that was disappointing. another issue I can note is that the game is a mediocre ARPG and it looks more like a shooter game with RPG elements rather than being Action Roleplay. the damage of the weapons is unbalanced and after some progression, the armor becomes a non-important thing (like when u reach to daedric armor in Skyrim) and enemies die fast. if u still play on supernova the chance of survival gets pretty low but you still don't feel the grinding (grinding is an important aspect in RPG and ARPG games, no matter how strong your weapon be dealing headshots or body damage shouldn't kill the enemies so fast). the graphics are nice but im just sick of Unreal Engine's graphics, I can see that it gets repetitive in various videogames (still we can count this as UE flaw)

Companions were great, they had great backstories, Game had a good kind of philosophical/scientific ideology and Politics and I think it's needed for people to interact with such stuff, game didn't have throwables and that was a bummer, no animal companion but I'm not going to notice that in my review. the game was really short, 20 hours for finishing all the quests and extra 10 hours for fully searching all the planets and reading the logs. Game Does Not look like a fallout game (due to graphics, the number of interactions and "freeness" you have) its just, not
I don't like to defend Bethesda's engine (its pretty old, outdated and buggy) but its more sandbox than any other engine I have ever seen. if Obsidian had enough money I think making the game on Unity would have been a much wiser choice

Obsidian can refine it through post-launch content if they're willing.

It's not perfect by any means but it is truly a game that every RPG fan should play at least once. Especially if you're a fan of Fallout New Vegas and Mass Effect. In fact, Mass Effect Andromeda, a bloated AAA RPG, wishes it could have done what this game did with an AA budget.

But I think you should stop being so entitled and reward Obsidian for building a PURE GAME that is just a game you buy. The business model of this game is exactly what it should be: purchase the game for 60 dollars and play it to your heart's content, with the company never bothering you to spend another dime. I will ALWAYS support developers with this business model and completely boycott any developer that pedals microtransactions, loot boxes or Day 1 DLC. I would give this same review of 10/10 if this game were bad, but it's not. The game is fantastic. I suppose it's a matter of taste, but I'm really, genuinely enjoying it. Also, I love that you get to kill Corporate Commanders in the game. That's Angry Joe's character for the greedy corporations, and you get to KILL THEM. Wonderful! This is a dream come true for anyone who has a clue about the games industry. You all need to vote this up, buy this game, and stop supporting nonsense that's out to exploit you like FIFA, NBA, Battlefront and Battlefront 2, etc. Otherwise you deserve what's comnig to you: a complete monopoly of games that have microtransactions that are necessary to pay to win or pay for convenience, games that release broken on launch day, and no alternatives. The Outer Worlds feels like a crossover between Fallout: New Vegas and Bioshock, with a graphic style that sometimes feels like Fallout 4 (but with more colour).

The attention to detail in the dialogue is breathtaking. For example, if you wear outfits you have taken from your kills, people will tell you that it is in poor taste to be walking around looking like the bad guys.

I haven't hit any major technical issues so far. I am playing on a cloud gaming service called "Shadow" with an NVIDIA GTX 1080 on max settings. I get the occasional glitch in frame rate, but I get this in all AAA games on Shadow, so I put this down to Shadow and not The Outer Worlds.

The one glitch that drives me mad is when I press "X" on the controller to talk to people, the gun is drawn. Every single time. Luckily, I am not attacked when this occurs: it is just an annoying glitch.

Overall, I am extremely impressed with The Outer Worlds.

No microtransactions, no loot boxes, just solid game. If cyberpunk is being compared to this, this is your fix until it comes out. The unique characters feel like real people. No one is overly typecasted into roles you feel familiar with. It's a new age an there are new ways of the world.

There are a few graphical issues on PC and I did experience a hard crash once. Normal mode also feels incredibly easy once you get going with speech and hacking banking a ton of early experience and bypassing possibly challenging content, kinda like KotoR. You'll also feel some familiarity such as a broken robot that becomes a character on a ship etc.

It's an overall fresh experience that puts current IPs to shame. Unique characters, funny dialog, great gameplay. Made for RPG lovers that need a familiar, yet possibly perfected, change of pace.

Never dated a game before but this one is just so amazing I just had to create an account! This game takes me back to the days of F:NV. Gunplay is good, dialogue is amazing, real player choice. Beautiful, interesting world. What more can you ask for. My favorite game of the year or possibly the last 3 years.

i play this on a MSI GS65 everything on ultra and it runs flawless, the conversation system is deeper than what seen on previous obsidian art and vastly improved facial animations and modeling makes it feel as an rpg which might sound redundant but we all know what im comparing it against.... The battle system is also improved but the jewel of the crown has to be the rpg mechanics (character progression, habilities etc..). It is how it should be but it is amazing since thats not a standard nowadays.
For me it reunites everything that im loving from 2019...
the first thing is that, under a double A tag it wipes the floor with every (theyre not much) triple A in ps4.
Second it is doing it so well that we can delight ourselves with all the saltiness that makes people create account to give it a 0 and copy-paste a bible that sounds like if they where talking about ”death walking”.

It is fun, beautiful, well voiced, paced good and all and all just fantastic. I hope the future holds a lot more of this; not the recent BS we keep seeing.

Absolutely great writing, fun filled worlds. The maps are smaller, but packed with stuff. Only negatives are game length and not enough random missions found from exploration-- all the missions are well marked and very easy to complete. Great start to what hopefully becomes a sequel filled franchise. Thanks, Oblivion!

It's a mini fallout game. It's good, but probably not worth AAA full price. I'm giving the game a 7 out of 10.

Shallow shooting. Maps are small, but they're packed with interesting things. That said, too few maps to explore.

The devs put together a good game, but for whatever reason they rushed out the ending. It really hurt the satisfaction of completing the game. However, the journey to the end is fun. Shooting is fun enough. Looting and exploration is fun. Humor everywhere done well. The game could've used a few more months in development. Epic games fiasco aside, good effort from the devs.

I'm pretty happy with the story, characters and classic RPG elements in The Outer Worlds. Dialogue options are excellent, player agency isn't a facade (I'm looking at you FO4), and most interactions are entertaining. There is a bit of repetition when in the open areas, but that's a small negative in the overall polish and craftsmanship of a truly impressive space RPG.

I especially love the reflective surfaces everywhere. the art style is bright and colorful, old west meets sci fi. the faces also look really nice (though some are re used). the gunplay is fine, not really much depth, and the actual act of shooting a gun is sometimes a bit underwhelming, but the reloads are nice and science effects are cool. melee is also pretty fun, especially in stealth. the time dilation is super satisfying, especially when you drop a quicksave, slow time, jump, and fire a round straight between martin the moonman's eyes. but let's be real here, no one plays an obsidian rpg for combat or graphics, even if they're good. it's the writing that's the star of the show, and let me tell you, the writing in this game went up on stage, spat the fattest verse you ever did hear, gave the entire audience a grand each, and walked off stage like kanye. tim and leon know their stuff when it comes to putting pen to paper. not only is the lore rich, the dialogue is consistently hilarious, situations are interesting and often subversive, and the satire is scathing. the game balances tone better than any other. it's both absolutely hilarious while also being very poignant in how it portrays capitalism in the far reaches of space. not only that, but every character is a human being. some folk arent particularly kind, but there are aspects to practically every person that add a whole lot of nuance to the experience. speaking of human beings, the companions in this game are absolutely top notch. they absolutely feel like real people with real emotional struggles. taking my favourite companion to drinks because she was crying over a girl she liked was really sweet, and an experience I've never had in any game. those little moments are just so nice. it's just bloody nice. another thing that's nice (hows that for a segway?) are the many different ways to approach tasks. the game gives you a goal, and it let's you go buckwild with your character. you'll hardly ever be restricted from completing an objective, because if your skill is too low for one check, theres almost always several other paths, be it speech, engineering, science, whatever. unlike other more classic style rpgs, instead of locking you out of stuff for having a low skill level in one attribute, it gives you a friendly pat on the head and offers you another option, so you still have distinct playthroughs based on skill, but without screwing stuff up because your melee skill is bad or something, which always sucks. and finally, each zone is stuffed to the brim with secrets and little tidbits for adventurous players or those with good lockpick or hacking skills. so get exploring.

in conclusion, has life on earth got you down? upset with the current late stage capitalist hellscape we currently live in? why not come on down to another late stage capitalist hellscape, except in this one, you re competent, and you wont get life in prison for commiting mass murder. explore halcyon today in the outer worlds.

    Pros

-this feels just like a classic fallout game
-lots of choices in dialogue and decisions that make an impact in the game world, and in the ending.
    -some decent humor sprinkled throughout
-INCREDIBLE amount of polish. I played 22 hours and didnt encounter a single bug, thats huge considering what a lot of the other AAA devs are pushing out nowadays.
-tons of side quests that aren't too grindy
-tons of loot to find, and upgrading to do
    -huge, awesome branching storyline

    Cons
-The main story is on the shorter side. You could probably complete it in maybe 10 hours, I chose a pretty mixed route and did all the side quests I came across. It took me about 22 hours.
-There are some things that break immersion. You can kill people right in front of your companions and they react, but only briefly. Immediately forgetting about it, and there's no dialogue options to discuss it with them after the fact.
-I wish they'd have made you go through more areas that were gripped heavier by the board, to make me feel their cruelty more. The first town is really the only one being super oppressed, the rest are either outside of board control or living happily.

Overall I would recommend this game to any who love polished RPGs. Especially the old Fallout games. If it is available to you, Game Pass is relatively cheap and it is available on that service.

I expected that game would be half broken but it not.
If played Fallout or TES before probably this game will be too obvious and sometimes easy.

I must say, it was exactly what I was yearning for! For me, it immediately remedied all the shortcomings of Fallout 76.
From the get-go, there were no lies or surprises. I got exactly what the publisher promised, on DAY ONE!
I’m 6-hours into the game, and have only experienced TWO bugs. On one occasion I killed a Marauder and some of his body was stuck in the ground. I’ve also experienced a tiny amount of screen tearing.
Full disclaimer: I’m using a 6-year old Gaming PC, so the very fact that this game works so flawlessly and looks so incredibly beautiful is testament to their incredibly good coding and game design!
    AMD FX-8350, GTX1080, 16GB RAM.

The overall look, feel, story, and gameplay is satisfying. Yes, it doesn’t feel as content-crammed as a Fallout game, and doesn’t have the same degree of customization, but what they’ve produced is excellent. Any given day I’d favor a smaller polished game than a big unfinished glitchy mess.
Interactions with the characters mostly consists of standing still with a dialog exchange. Again, I’m only 6-hours in, but the dialog still feels meaningful and you have to make decisively TOUGH decisions. I love that!

They have definitely improved themselves since Fallout NV, Every aspect of this game is an improvement, I only hope they release some affordable DLC for this game that add a TON more replayability. Because apart from seeing what other ending you could get (which you can do by searching on youtube anyway) there isn't much cause for you to replay the game all over. I've done most of the quests apart from a couple of companion quests and it took me about 35 hrs to complete the game, after the game ends, credits roll and you go back to the main menu, I hope they make it so we can continue playing the game, with more things to do, more activities, quests, and newer worlds added in. Here is why:

I was nervous about pre ordering this game (not that it really matters since there is literally no harm no foul for cancelling a pre order and it's only $5)... but my trepidation was from the fact that (surprisingly) not many people I knew had heard of this game in the year leading up to it, but also, I had very high expectations due to the promises of the "throwback rpg" that was supposedly bundled in a "Firefly" type universe. I mean... c'mon! What more could you ask for?

By "throwback rpg," I'm referring to the good ol' days where your decisions ACTUALLY meant something. Your freedom was real and not artificial and not just some marketing promise used to get you to buy the game. I'm talking "old school, dialogue heavy, relationship building, watch your vicarious character's traits/personalities flesh out and evolve right before your eyes based off of your decisions and actions" kind of game.... did that make sense?

So with my high expectations, I couldn't help but feel that I was setting myself up for disappointment... like so many other games that came out in recent years (*cough* Days Gone *cough*). SO MANY GAMES get our hopes up with OVER promising and UNDER-delivering.

Folks, this game delivers on all fronts. True RPG. True to it's promises of decision making/impacting dialogue... OH AND the combat. One thing I didn't hold my breath on (because of past shooting mechanics of the Fallout game) was the... shooting... mechanics. I was doubly prepared for poor shooting because I just came off of Borderlands 3, where the shooting is phenomenal! LOW AND BEHOLD....THE SHOOTING MECHANICS ARE SHOCKINGLY GREAT! Perfect? No. But they hold their own, which just adds to the already superb premise of the game play. It looks like Death Stranding is set up to be a snooze fest and a disappointment (based off of early reviews... even the good reviews state it's boring and extremely frustrating). All I gotta say is thank you "The Outer Worlds" for being the first game in a long time.... maybe ever for keeping ALL OF YOUR PROMISES... AND THEN SOME!!

I absolutely love this game. Feeds a real RPG itch for me. The weaknesses you can acquire is a nice concept & I love the mix of Bioware companions & companion quests, with fallout style gameplay. A depth in character stats is something I have been missing in AAA RPGs since Fallout 3/New Vegas.

The dialogues and character writing has clearly been a world of love so has been the world. A garishly colorful world accompanied by a great soundtrack that's only being hampered by its rather simplistic combat system which makes almost all combat a run-over. However this can be forgiven by the fact that it's clearly not a combat-centered game however if you're playing solely for the combat only then this iteration of the game isn't going to satisfy you. Although the world design is great it is clear that it is as open as any old Mass Effect game, meaning there is no endless exploration which in the end contributes to its rather shortness of the game of about 40 hrs. of game-play. Given that it was never developed or marketed AAA game I still have to commend Obsidian on showing us that old virtues of creating a good game that runs without a hitch and without telling me that I need to spend more money in order to get the amount of fun that I have hoped for when buying it. Favorite Thing: It's a solid Fallout-like that doesn't overstay its welcome.
Least Favorite Thing: The game is a cake walk on normal. And that 100% crash near the end.

    Recommendation: Definitely.

Great story, great writing, great atmosphere and great universe. The only reason it doesn't get a perfect score is minor issues. It could be longer with more quests, more gun mods, more armor options and planets in the solar system you can go to. Overall great and worth more than one playthrough.

From the very start .. it feels more alive than .. lets say Fallout 4. Not because the "world" is alive - or the characters follow complex day/night routines .. no - just because they are well acted and complex characters.

Visuals are kind of nice .. but i reckon - they are a matter of taste - as they are cartoon-ish and lack a lot of detail in exchange for style.

The player is not held by the hand too much but left to do their thing - AND suffer the consequences!

Companions can die - permanently .. and somewhat quickly. But not having them (i play on Supernova) can be a challenge, too .. unless you focus really much on combat.

There are multiple ways to solve quests - most of the time ... including non violent ways (but not for every situation .. it still centers around combat!) - The crafting system is simple but OK, the weapons are ... varied but not outstanding.
When i compare it with - Fallout New Vegas and especially its DLCs ... it does NOT hold up. The story in this "universe" is much more conservative and does not come close to the story of "dead money" or "big empty"
But compared to games today .. it is positively a masterwork of story and character design.

A perfect game? No .. I am also not sure about re-playabilty ... but worth the price AND a full play-through? .. Any time!

    - Fallout 3/NV type of game
    - Good (not bad) story
    - Good (not bad) jokes
    - I found some critical bugs, but i forgive it since there is no any good games (* of this type) on the market for today.
    - Also this game could be longer

P.S. I wish Obsidian to not stop make good games and I wish that his future games will be better.

Really enjoyed it. I haven't played many similar games so I can't really compare but as a standalone experience I like dit. It is a bit short though, I completed many side quests and finished in about 17 hours

Just to make it clear. To all the people who are disappointed, because they feel like they have wasted money. The game is an Xbox one companion game pass title, which you right now can buy really cheap, so you can try out the game for 30 days. Except for that, I love the game.

This game is incredible. The sophistication of choice in this game is the greatest I've ever seen. I'm only 10 hours in but those hours have been some of the best I've ever spent playing a game. Highly recommend.

First of all, let me tell you to not listen to the people who say this game only offers around 20 hours of content. I am 99% positive they played through the game on easy mode and skipped dialogue often. My first play through I decided to run on the highest difficulty, which is called Supernova, and it adds survival elements like hunger, thirst, need for sleep, limited saving/fast traveling, companion permanent death, etc. I have already put around 15 hours into the game and BARELY got off the beginning world. I had to reload multiple times either because I died, or my companion(s) died. I also explored the world instead of bee-lining it straight for markers/objectives. This game is what you make it, so if you sit back and immersive yourself (which is very easy to do in this game due to a perfect balance of great writing and wacky situations) in the world, it is very easy to enjoy.

The combat (I can only speak from Supernova difficulty perspective) is difficult and requires foresight into character development and supplies management. The A.I. are typically overly aggressive and could use an overhaul into thinking/acting a little smarter.

Companions could use a little work. Their interaction in dialogues are great, the character development is fantastic, however, if you mess with their standard combat presets (ranged/melee, aggressive/passive) they seem to just sit there and do nothing if they aren't on their default settings.

I play on a 2080Ti + i7-8700k on ultra settings with an ultrawide monitor (borderless resolution) and the game runs flawlessly. I rarely see my frames drop below 100FPS (my monitor is overclocked to 100HZ) and the environment looks fantastic! People complaining about the worlds looking like a game from the 2000's are probably running the game on a GTX 1060 or some crap because this game is very beautiful. I just wish there was a 3rd person mode (I don't think there is but i'm not positive) so that I could enjoy the environment even more with some cool character shots.

Overall this game is a must play. Watching videos of this game doesn't do it justice. I wasn't going to buy this game until I noticed I could get it on PC game pass for $1, so I did just that. Every PC gamer should at least pay $1 to try it out and get their own opinion, but my opinion is 9/10, which will switch to 10/10 if they can make the A.i. smarter!

P.S. If you get the PC game pass, you have to download the PC game pass beta app as well as make sure windows is completely up-to-date, or else you won't be able to install the game, your cursor will change to a stop sign when clicking on "install".

It's not. What it is is a very competent game that is fantastic in its best parts and decent in its worst. Obsidian/PD have taken the defining bits of New Vegas, made them better, and without handicaps imposed by Bethesda, turned them into a game that satisfies the thirst for a real action-roleplay game.
The writing is witty and gets the point across, even if it becomes a little preachy at times. It has a depth that forces the player away from the "evil corporate bad, freedom fighters good", to consider both sides of the struggle.
Mission types are on the weaker end of the spectrum. They're mostly fetch quests, but I never felt like I was forced to do them against my will. They also tend to have several avenues to complete them (e.g. sneaky, silver tongue, or guns a-blazing).
I picked up the game and couldn't put it down all day. Personally I think it's bloody brilliant and a testament to Obsidian's abilities. I had to take away two poitns because I found the music severely lacking, enemy AI below average, and performance poor.

I thought I'd never feel like I used to when playing Fallout New Vegas or Mass Effect, but I did. The game is not perfect, nor it has a quality of other big AAA titles but we get a great single player story-oriented space RPG which we lack so much right now. Per aspera ad astra!

I'm just here to say one thing: DON'T give the game a low rating or a ZERO because YOU DON'T AGREE with the GAME'S POLITICAL VIEWS. Judge the game by its CONTENT and now by its AGENDA which has NO EFFECT on GAMEPLAY or your ENJOYMENT of the game whatsoever. If you TRULY don't like the game, go ahead and give it a low rating.

The problem with this isn't that it is a bad game (far from it), but the fact that it failed to reach its true potential… or maybe the expectations were simply too high, because there's nothing here that anyone can point to and say that it is terrible. Sadly, there's almost nothing that's great either, apart from the role-playing element and the quality of writing. The gunplay? Ok. The exploration? Decent. The plot? Fine. The dominant feeling here is of a game that is good enough so that you won't hate it, but also not as good for it to be the flawless classic that it could definitely be - but again, that's probably those darn high expectations speaking, because flaws or no flaws, The Outer Worlds shouldn't be missing from any RPG collection.

An excellent effort from Obsidian, and though The Outer Worlds doesn’t surpass its predecessors by offering a world worth visiting over and over, the adventure it presents is more than worth the time spent.

Usually, a planet has just one or two settlements and a bit of wildlands to explore. But that’s for the best – instead of exploring miles of filler content, Outer Worlds keeps you moving from planet to planet, from one tense situation to another. [Issue#241, p.34]
