This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Skyrim is a masterpiece. It's one of my favourite games of all time even 4 years after release I'm still enjoying every second I spend in Skyrim. I hated myself for just playing Skyrim on ps3 as my fun was quadrupled when I got it on the pc, mainly because of the modding community. I'll now talk about how good Skyrim is.

    The Story
The story in Skyrim isn't really talked about that much because people tend to get side-tracked from Skyrim's story due to the huge open world of Skyrim. The plot of Skyrim is that u play as a prisoner who is about to be executed along with some other storm cloaks. However lucky for you a dragon attacks the city and kills nearly everyone in the city and destroys most of it. You and a member of the imperials escape though and the open world of Skyrim is then opened up to you. You then need to find out why the dragons are coming back and stop them. After doing a few quests you discover you are one of few people to be called a "Dragonborn" which is basically a person who slays dragons and absorb their souls. The story in my opinion is one of the let downs Skyrim has. I know I have seen this sort of plot before and it seems just boring. I didn't really care about why the dragons are coming back I just wanted to stop them. Thank god that the quests you're put on are better than the plot.

    The characters
Like most Bethesda games I don't particularly think that the characters really stood out. People just seem to be people. There isn't much else to say about it I didn't really care much about people I just thought they were people going about their business. The exception is actually the playable character. I seem to like the playable character more than most of the people living in Skyrim which is saying something as the main character is the only character that isn't given a personality. The personality is forged by the player. If they want their character to be a cold hearted murderer who works for the dark brotherhood they can make them be that, they want them to be the civil protector of Skyrim they can do that as well, if you want them to settle down have a family with a wife and kids and a house you can make them do that (Well with the hearthfire DLC)

    Graphics and sfx
The graphics in Skyrim are great I only wish my computer was able to handle the ultra graphics setting so I'll need to settle with high quality. However I do have a few complaints about the graphics. The graphics seem to make some parts of Skyrim particularly the snowy areas of Skyrim look rather drab and bland. I also thought they could have made the water look a bit better. In the end I decide to get mods to fix my problems so there now doesn't seem to be much to complain about graphics wise

The sound is fantastic. Sound changes depending on the scenery you're in you can listen in on other people's conversations if you're in towns you can even get quests if you listen to the conversations.

    Enjoyment
I really enjoyed my time in Skyrim and I still visit it every once in awhile. All quests seemed fun and some of the side quests seemed to have better plots than the actual main plot of Skyrim. I also seem to like the DLC plots more than the main plot of Skyrim.

I even had fun just running around exploring all of Skyrim

    Final Verdict
No matter weather you've played previous elder scrolls games before or you're not into open world games I recommend Skyrim to literally anyone I can find

    Pros
    + Great graphics
    + Huge world
    + Great sound
    + Good combat
    + Variation in enemies
    + Good side quests
    + Great DLCs
+ Build your character the way you want to

    Cons
    - Snowy areas look bland
    - Uninteresting characters

    Final verdict: 10/10

Skyrim is a must buy, even more of a one if you get a deal on it, DLCs are also worth it too however I might wait till the hearthfire DLC has a discount on it as it doesn't add as much as the Dawnguard or Dragonborn DLCs

When I got this game for x-mas in 2011, I did not leave my computer for a good 3 days. I played hundreds of hours in Skyrim, and thousands with modded Skyrim.

This is not Oblivion. This is not Morrowind. But I'll be damned if anyone can play this game without having fun. Expansions are overpriced, so get the legendary edition instead ;)

Quite possibly the best game I have ever played. I started the series with morrowind but have now finished every game in the series and I can tell you that this is the most hyped I have ever been for a game. The story is amazing and the rpg mechanics were revamped and updated for a new generation. The world is massive, the characters are memorable, overall the game is a truly amazing experience.

Mods is what makes this flawed game great. Bethesda even gives you their own creation tools for you to tinker with every aspect of the game. Want something that isn't possible with the creation tools? Write a script! Install SKSE if you reach Bethesda's scripting limits. It has nearly an astronomical ammount of mods on the nexus (or steam). This and only this is why Skyrim deserves a perfect 10.

Without mods, Skyrim is just a slightly above average game. Especially on day 1 it was painly obvious it was developed for consoles. It had a really incredibly terrible user interface (which was fixed by a mod eventually) and on day "2" Bethesda came with some badly needed high resolution texturepack.

The story isn't all that extraordinary and can be played through in under 40 hours. The combat gets predictable after a while and a mod is needed to make it interesting again. The gameplay is quite fun, but the vanilla levelling system, skills and perks are flawed. The quests given throughout the game are just OK. Enemy AI doesn't make sense most of the time. Since an arrow in their face shouldn't fall under "must have the wind". And dragons making angular turns isn't also something i would call realistic.

But, everything is fixable with mods. And because Bethesda designs the game around the ability to mod it, it deserves a perfect 10.

    The Good:

    - The world itself feels alive like few other games have accomplished. The depth of activities, characters, and lore makes this one of the most immersive experiences ever.
    - The gameplay is intuitive, and the core interfaces are all friendly to heavy customization. Nearly everything can be modded, and the library of mods out there is terrifyingly extensive.
    - The sounds and visuals are fantastic. Even on low system settings, the cracks in the wallpaper rarely show.
    - The freedom to play your own way is one of the hallmarks of Bethesda games, and in Skyrim you're almost immediately free to go do whatever you want.

    The Bad:

    - There are a few glitches around, but it wouldn't be Bethesda if there weren't. Compared to the recent PC editions of Fallout, though, Skyrim is relatively clean, and I only ran into one unexplained crash in over 90 hours.
    - Companion AI still leaves a lot to be desired, especially when they keep running into the path of your spells and arrows.
    - The Dawnguard DLC makes it way too easy for shopkeepers and other useful-but-not-essential townspeople to die.

Skyrim is one of the most impressive games ever, and holds up incredibly well after half a decade.

Of course, it's Bethesda, so of course the AI is a little buggy, and some quests are messed up, but it still doesn't change the absolute perfectness of this game.

Absolutely lovely feeling of returning to Fallout, the very first one, when you seem to have a goal and still do everything you want and more.

And the atmosphere in the game is excellent, the winter is cozy, and even the translated songs performed by bards do not annoy but work for the atmosphere.

And finally I fell in love with the game after two moments. At first, in one of the cities a guard came up to me, frowned at me and said - "Or maybe this is me, only I don’t know it yet." And the second was much later, when the thief who met me at night, to my usual "what am I like a person who has money?" honestly answered me that I look like a person who has nowhere to put them ..

And MODS, TALOS LORD THE MODS IS ONE OF THE BEST PART, specially if you play the game raw, and then install a bunch of mods.

Glorious. Best game ever. Except maybe too easy, except the very beginning fighting naked, there was no difficultly level sufficiently high enough to challenge me. The story and atmosphere were great, although I don't see how others can be playing this single player game indefinitely.

There are tons of locations to explore and most of them are not just an empty landmark. Loots in this game are insane, you will ended up putting stuffs in boxes and sacks, and maybe forget about some of them. Many quest lines and side quests are interesting. They will keep you engaged for months if not years. I will not complain about bugs too much as it is common in games of this size. There are also other minor issues with this game such as not so well written story, not refined relationship system with NPCs... well, I really have a hard time finding something to complain about this game. I would recommend everyone (of the right age) to play this game and they play again with some mods installed. But beware beware the dragonborn comes! Expand

I actually got this game as an apology for something that happened on my Birthday a few days before and to this very day it is one of my favorite games ever made. Ignore the bugs, even though some can be game breaking and this is among the greatest games of all time, the best rpg ever made in my opinion as far as freedom is concerned.

The game was really ambitious in 2011 and until now (2019) still one of the greatest RPG that ever existed. The map is very big, great enemies, great charcter building, great quests. There are some bugs but for a game so complex its kinda unfair to consider thouse bugs as a bad point in a review. For sure one of my favourite games of all time.

Skyrim, despite its flaws, is one of the most immersive video games I have ever played. The flaws are quite apparent as soon as you start the game. Melee combat sucks. Most questlines are not very good, a clear step back from Oblivion. But the world is so beautiful, cohesive and immersive, it’s easy to ignore Skyrim’s flaws.

The attention to detail is astonishing. I have found myself in awe in many situations where the world of Skyrim reacted in mind-blowing ways. I am not talking about scripted events, mind you. You can find your horse -Shadowmere- getting pissed at some enemies and climb hundreds of stairs to invade a bandit camp. You can become a vampire lord and play the game as such and it will still make sense within Skyrim’s world. On your journey to a mountain, you can see a dragon flying around, minding its own business. That said, you can engage with the dragon if you choose to. In Skyrim, you can pretty much go anywhere you like, anytime you like and engage with anything you see. For a game made in 2011, the ambition is spectacular. Even Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall was extremely ambitious when it came out in 1996, so you may think Elder Scrolls has always been an ambitious series. What takes Skyrim apart though is the fact that the game totally delivers in most aspects, despite being overambitious for a 2011 game. I loved Oblivion, but I can easily say Skyrim is the better game (except the questlines) and as far as the Elder Scroll series is concerned, Skyrim is up there with Morrowind.

There is one more thing that should be mentioned. If you are into high fantasy, you likely have a special love for dragons. It has been 10 years since Skyrim came out, but it still is, by far the best dragon game ever made. Dragons are part of the game’s world and they never feel out of place. Yes, the fights can be quite easy, but it never feels scripted.

Music is spectacular, although a more variety of songs would have been nice. Sound is really good too.

In summary, Skyrim is the perfect comfort food. Yes, it is even more casualized than Oblivion. Combat Is bad. It’s very easy even in expert difficulty. But despite all these, Skyrim is extremely good at what it’s trying to achieve. Skyrim is the second-best Elder Scrolls game, second only to Morrowind.

    9.5/10

    My ranking of major questlines:
Main Quest (great) > Dark Brotherhood (great) > Dragonborn (good) > Dawnguard (vampire) (good) > Civil War (imperial legion) (good) > College of Winterhold (alright) > Thieves Guild (ok) > Bard’s College (bad) > The Companions (bad)

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm confident that there is no better open world RPG game out there. Starting just from the main screen where you hear the song of the Dragonborn hypes you up to play this fantastic game in a way that no other game has done before it. Then when you drop in you immediately get to know the environment of the civil war in Skyrim. The character customisation is combined with the game in a very good way. Then 2 minutes after you started the game and saw the civil war you meet your main antagonist - Alduin. I also really like the irony that Alduin saves you from death, so you can defeat him later. Overall the main quest line is quite good as it introduces you into a lot of the main cities, the thieves guild, and the blades. It shows you that in this game you will be exploring A LOT of caves. The 4 sub-plots of the story - The thieves guild, the dark brotherhood, the companions, and the mages college are even better than the normal story because they introduce daedric lords, and most of the different skill trees you can build your character around. The bards college sub-plot is smaller, but still very fun as you can slightly make your own song for a festival. The biggest sub-plot - The civil war is awesome, and the battle for Whiterun is the most epic part of the whole game. The only down side I find to it is that you either choose jarl Balgruuf to hate you or jarl Laila to hate you (she also gets replaced by Maven Black Briar, and you probably hate her). Another thing I think they should have added to the Civil War is the hard to do option of stopping the war, combining the Stormcloaks and the Imperials, and driving the Thalmor out of Skyrim once and for all. The first DLC was a nice add-on that gave players more freedom, so I respect it. The Dawnguard DLC did an amazing job of showing us the vampires, and I like how they again gave us the option between Dawnguard and Vampire Lord. The Dragonborn DLC added a whole new chunk of land - the island of Solstheim. The main story of the DLC wasn't as good as the main story of the Dawnguard DLC, but I think all the other missions, items, and lore added with it made it the best DLC of the three. To sum up, Skyrim is the single-player game that makes you think you are playing a multi-player game, and even after your 4th play-through you can still have fun with it, not to mention how many game-breaking mods are there. I definitely recommend to every gamer out there. GO AND PLAY SKYRIM! Expand

Fixing all bethesda fails, creating great game. And it takes lot of time, for someone new, i would say at least two weeks being burried in lot of problematics.
But reward is - one of best games out there, even with fact, that its so old, with proper mods, it competes with anything 7 years newer, with ease.

Now again - Fixing all bethesda fails, creating great game. And how is it even possible, that bethesda dares to destroy this, attepmting to monetize it, trying to divide modding comunity, either with their creative cash cow nonsense club, or releasing SSE, which is almost completely uncompatible. This company is clueless and all their new efforts only prove it, and i worry, this is the last tittle really worth it.
Giving score to game, fixed by thousands of fans, talented active amazing people from all around world - 10/10.
For bethesda version, i wouldnt put more than 5/10, maybe 4/10.
And taking in account heinous bethesda behavior, i would give just 0.

CONS: 1) A lack of proper cut scenes undercuts the drama of some of the story lines. This is my biggest complaint about the series. 2.) Vanilla graphics are a little rough -- thank god for MODS! 3.) Since mods are essential to experience Skyrim's full potential, it's unfortunate the game engine feels a bit like a card castle at times -- often unstable due to an outdated script method (so I've read).

To me what makes Skyrim so great, is that it's a game that releases you into a world to do whatever you want, whenever you want. The world is filled with all kinds of cool stuff to be found. Ancient ruins, huge cities, crime syndicates, warring armies, kings trying to maintain power, etc.

But what's even cooler than all this scripted stuff, is the unscripted stuff you can do. For instance, if you want to rob a store, you can go rob it. No quest or even UI required. Just pick the lock, walk inside, and take what you want. If you want to assassinate a character, you can track them through the city, follow them to some dark alley and knife them from behind in the dead of night. If you want to become a monster hunter, you can go out into the world and ravage giant camps, face off against powerful dragons, and hunt vampires through the caverns beneath Skyrim. Or maybe you want to be an Indiana Jones, you can scour the land searching for mysterious artifacts, temples, and ruins.

The game truly allows you to do it all. And if you get bored of running around making your own stories, Bethesda's got you covered. There are dozens of deep side questlines to keep you entertained that range everywhere from rebuilding a disgraced guild of thieves to tracking down an ancient Dwarven city rumored to have a forge capable of crafting weapons of incomprehensible power.

Skyrim is a masterpiece, a word that I don't use lightly. And that's without even considering the modding scene, which is among the best in gaming. I completed my first playthrough of it in 2022 and am shocked to report that, in my opinion, Skyrim is still better than many of the games that have been released since 2011. The fact that a game from 2011 is better than a game released in 2023 is baffling to me, and a true testament to how great the game actually is. Some might claim that Skyrim is great because of nostalgia, but I've only played it a handful of times in my life prior to getting it in 2022 and have very little nostalgia for it. It's just a great game, and still holds up well even 12 years after release. There's not a lot of games that have this kind of lifespan, and still continue to hold their own against newer games. As a result of this, and the truly incredible experience that Skyrim provides, I think it's easily deserving of a perfect score. 10/10

The game is graphically pretty good, even for the parameters of 2018, and for its time, it was a reference for the genre, a masterpiece that no player forget. You never forget when you first climbed the mountain and saw the snow being projected by the wind down the hill.
The soundtrack its impressive and you have hours of dialogue and story to listen. You almost can talk to every single person in the game that they have something to say to you.
Game mechanics are obviously limited, compared to current titles (I do remind I'm reviewing this in 2018), and it is still possible to find bugs or side quests that do not work right. However it is very important to note that there are community-corrected mods that do not affect the achievements of the game (in any case, be aware of them before using them).

Skyrim is a fantastic open world game that should be a reference to every open world games. The size matters but the most important thing is, without a doubt, the content. And in Skyrim at every step you find something to do. It's easily a 200 hours plus journey if you want.

Skyrim its one of that games that any gamer must play, at least once, and that will always going to use as reference for what a open world and role playing game should be.

Immediately close this page and run to play it. Many people say that it will never be too late to play it, some still make various add-ons for it, but this is not entirely objectively. I agree with all hands and feet that this is a great game masterpiece... but of its time. It was created in 2011 and improved in 2016. Somewhere then I played it. But no matter how much you put on a makeup, no matter how much you paint the walls and improve the graphics with "special editions" - this is still the skeleton from 2011. Sooner or later it will have to be released, because there will be something to compare with, no matter how cool the story, mechanics and atmosphere are. So don't waste that time.
A huge open world, a huge variety of long and short adventures. There are so many nooks and crannies and atmospheric places and events that even after a month of intense play and searching with a magnifying glass, you still have something to do. A good system for skills with upgrade by using them... Since Skyrim was created, I haven't met as good game as that one of this genre and scope. Perhaps the third Witcher, but it's "a slightly different industry".
The only thing I can scold Skyrim for is a lot of nasty bugs, which, I think, were later fixed.

Visuals are good (actually they were awesome but I first played it 3 or 4 years after its release), story is deep, complex and immersive plus being almost endless. The game allows you to make your own choices about a lot of things, making each game yous start really diiferent than the last. Customization is really cool: you can change your outfit, the way you resolve quests, people you consider as friends or not, where to live, how to decorate, adopting a child or not, getting married, becoming a werewolf or vampire,... The map is huge with varied environments. The 'Dawnguard' and 'Dragonborn' add-on's do bring even more discoveries and atmospheres.

The fact that there are so many gratifying ways to progress all along the game just makes me crazy. Side quests interact with the main one (even in a bad way when you realize you killed someone being necessary later). Modding is insane: thanks to NexusMod you can make the game revive when you thought it was dead. The bestiary is awesome and detailed, even if draugr's are way too repetitive in dungeons. Dubbing and acting is awesome for each necessary character. Soundrtrack is oviously incredible, immersive and powerful. Interface and HUD are ugly but you can easily change it on PC.

For me is the last good game from bethesda. Firs I was annoyed that they still raping this old engine. But this worked this (and last) time. Modding community make this game one of most customizable game. Good not stealing your money DLC, wonderful world. 10/10 must play.

One of the best RPG I’ve ever played. You can spend so much sleepless night to it that you can actually count.

This game is great. There's a vast world you can explore without feeling bored and thousands of side quests you can do.

All in all you can live in this game as your second life

One day my sons or daughters will ask: "Dad, what thing you did the most on your life?" and i will answer: "The thing i most spent time on, you mean? Well... Serious now: Skyrim is, actually, the best game ever made. You MIGHT think that his younger and retarded brother is better (you know, that fake Skyrim, made by a Poland game company), but you are wrong. In Skyrim you don't play with a generic medieval hero who is a ' badass **** cool witcher', YOU ARE the character. You answer the questions, you do your decisions based on what you think that is right.

This game is, from what i know, the best "Lol do whatever you want just make sure you will have fun okay?" and that is amazing. I could talk about this game forever, just play it okay?

Many years in the far future you will lie on your deathbed, thinking about this review of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim for PC. You will reminisce about how I called The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim the second best game of all time next to The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

And as you spend some of your last seconds of breathing air from this corporeal earth thinking back on what should be an insignificant, irrelevant comment about a video game on Steam, you will be thinking about one of two things. You could think about how you heeded the advice of this seemingly inconsequential review and played the game, of course probably having several hours of endless fun screwing around as a medieval badass, meeting interesting characters, and enjoying a video game to the greatest extent one could possibly enjoy it.

Or you could regret not heeding the advice of this seemingly inconsequential review, and not play the game. And as you lie there, inert, coming to terms with your imminent and inevitable death, you can't help but wonder what could've been. If you had just spent the measly $20 to buy this game and perhaps just tried it. Perhaps it would've been a mediocre experience. But on the other hand, it could've been an immensely enjoyable experience.

And as your sight begins to fail, the room grows darker and darker, your organs begin to fail one by one, and death's icy hand reaches out to pull you down into the void, your last thought will be the realization that you would never know. As the neurons in your brain permeate this thought throughout your head, you will die.

UP there as one of the best games of all time in my opinion.

The whole thing feels simply real, you immerse yourself into the vast areas, can go just about anywhere you want, and the fear you genuinely feel when you initially come across big bosses or dragons is very real. Characters all tend to offer different strengths and weaknesses, which means you can genuinely play this game

Characters all tend to offer different strengths and weaknesses, which means you can genuinely play this game differently with each type, I have played through twice for instance.

The story is great, branches off into multiple areas, leading you to new locations cleverly, and although at times it can feel a bit samey, you have to remember, it is vast, you can literally spend hours just wandering about.

Unfortunately, Skyrim trips and falls on its own (most probably, to make the cool-sounding deadline of 11-11-11) and just before it reaches perfection as the ultimate specimen of its genre, it self-destructs in a crucial aspect of game design: the interface and the peripheral components (inventory, journal, map, etc)... but that is not to say that Skyrim is anything but a truly majestic, epic RPG that will suck you right in its cosmos.

Skyrim is the best open world RPG you can get. A true evolution of genre is not flawless but still it is the game you love to live in. [Christmas 2011]
