The most amazing game I have played in years. It is so immersive with so much to do. I am not the kind of person who enjoys playing single player games, but this game and Elder Scrolls in general is always an exception to that.

Not much left to be said that hasn't been said already. Brilliant game.. expansive, beautiful and highly addicting. Base game is a 9/10 then add in the customization available through mods and this game is one of the only games ever to truly pull off a perfect 10 rating.

Skyrim in many ways is the best game ever made. You can always think of hundreds of ways to make it better and its got numerous bugs (including some game breaking ones); yet it still holds onto a 8.1 user score.

Excellent game! Worth every cent! Maybe a bit repetitive from time to times, but who cares when it feels so good! The inventory and skill access maybe quite crude anc could be more innovatie, but you'll live and get used to it. Awesome game.

    Pre-modding: 6/10
    Cons:
    1) The interface was crap for the PC. 2) The item naming was poorly done 3) There were MANY poorly done textures, models of both the 2-D and 3-D. 4) Many models which were supposed to be 3-D were made 2-D etc. etc. 5) DRAGONS... My biggest PEVE!!! They were weak flying lizards that I once beat to death with my bare fists!!!! This was almost a deal-breaker for me! 6) MANY errors in skills, items, game-play etc. 7) many details you wish were in the game but knew they'd just be wishes weren't in the game. 7) decent, but not over-the-top voice acting. They could have used a few more actors in this department.. especially in the common interactions.

Pros: 1) Great music 2) Great Story 3) Awesome Lore depth 4) Respect for the consumer 5) timely updates 6) High level of pre-mod character customization 7) Plenty to explore and open-ended... and the ultimate thing 8) the ability to make your own changes or to use other people's changes MODDING!!!!

Modding leads me into the next part: POST-MODDING

POST MODDING - 10/10!!! every negative in the previous section has been fixed by the players!

Pros: OMG! with everyone out there solving every bug, glitch, error, fixing every plot hole, graphical error, improving textures, models... Making dragons powerful... I cannot say with enough emphasis that the modidng has made this game beyond EPIC. The pure level of customization you can choose is amazing!! New User-interface, new item naming, people add houses, dungeons, animals, fish, fishing, horses, seals on ingots, new hair, better animations, more or less blood, improve all graphics from apples to trees, to the whole world itself, change the lighting to make it more real, new weapons, more food, new spells, better bookshelves.... If you found something/anything irritating, or had a wish for something someone else has had it and made the mod for it, or you can request it. Or by browsing the mods you will find stuff and think... OMG That's an AWESOME IDEA!!! download it and using Nexus it's in the game! Nexus Mod Manager is to this game what Chocolate is to Peanut Butter. I will be playing this game for ages. I put this game as a VERY CLOSE SECOND when compared to my all-time favorite game Ultima 7 parts 1 and 2. You simply cannot go wrong with this game. Modders are already making Castle-Defense, tower Defense mini-games inside the actual game! This game has re-defined the RPG genre

Wow. I really didn't like Elder Scrolls 3 or 4 and could never figure out what all the fuss was about. I always thought Gothic 1 and 2 were WAY better at implementing an immersive open world RPG. I think they finally figured it out. The world looks great, the quests are pretty good. It has a nice big playtime on it yet you still feel like you can play it casually in 30 minute chunks. The open world design is fantastic. Traversing the world just feels fantastic, believable, and fun. I haven't seen an open world this well designed since the Gothic games. The factions, races and classes are fun without seeming unnecessary. Yeah it's pretty hard to say anything negative about the game. I will say that as a PC player, I absolutely hated the menu system. It wouldn't have taken that much work to make a nice PC based menu system that doesn't feel like a console system. Or maybe it could have been added in as a menu option in case you wanted to play on PC with a controller. That said, their support of mods has allowed me to add in PC friendly menu systems to replace theirs, so at least I have options and can't really complain, as I'm not locked into it. Thank you Bethesda for a great gaming experience. All the accolades are well deserved. Expand

The current version is about 1.5.29 or something like that, so there were HUGE changes, since the street date.

The current version has only very small bugs and/or design mistakes: a) The opponents, loots and most of the items re-spawn after a certain time and I hate this gamedesign element. b) The graphics are incredibly beautiful for an RPG game (just climb a hill and look around and you will get my point), but graphics bugs is all around, where the developers didn't think you would go in the game!! Let me explain: hills cannot be climbed in many times, but with a small trick (continuously jump during steering and walking forward in the same time xD ), you can climb almost everywhere, where is the rampage has about less than 50-55% angle. I have seen beyond walls with this trick, I have seen floating trees... etc. I do exploring, because it's an RPG and you can take advantage from looking around from the tops of the Skyrim world frequently. c) There are small quest-bugs that the patches didn't solve yet :/ Thank God, these bugs have no affect on the gameplay. d) You cannot mark more than 1 location at the map. Why...? e) Sometimes (in daytime) the sellers/merchants act like you would "visit" them at night and they call for guards... f) The dialogs cannot be subtitled :( ------- Summary: I think everything else is fine. Graphics is stunning, very entertaining details (you can chop woods, mine ore, go and catch fishes, steal, ride horses, kill-get-caught-and-go-to-jail, try to escape from prison, kill all witnesses and get away from being caught). Some enemies and friendly NPCs appear randomly, which makes the game incalculable/unpredictible. Though I just received this game as a gift, I honestly say: it is a game that worths every penny! And responding to a rreview writer who told, there is no story.... dumb person, who cannot read. You can find books in the game. If you read just 1/3 of them, you will know almost everything about the world of this game. 9.5/10

Also you can adjust the game with mods from workshop and console to fit the style you like to play (for example - increase weight limit, remove level cap, remake buff mechanics, add spells/perks/quests/items/money/locations/textures/etc.). I'm level 80 now (max is 60.. or 50 :) ) and not even close to the main quest end - it is still very interesting just to explore new locations.
First I played an illegal copy (no demo exists, shame on you!) and it was really buggy, but by the time I bought a legal one those where fixed. Little bugs still occur sometimes, like misplaced textures and that sort of stuff.
I remember now just 3 disappointing things: 1) After installation of more than 50 mods if I run far enough while game is autosaving it sometimes freezes (may be a bug of a particular mod, who knows); 2) 9 shortcuts for spells/gear/shouts is not enough for me, I'd like to have an ability to make more of them (for example, not only 1-9, but also Ctrl+1, Alt+1, F1 - something like Lineage II and other MMOs). 3) Master spells of destruction where quite disappointing for the first time - you can't move while you cast them, so they were useless with my playstyle.
Also I would like to mention that if you know the way you like to play - Skyrim has some possibilities of gameplay customization. On the other side, if you'll install every mod you see (without thinking) it may ruin the game. Just play a vanilla one then :) .
I think Skyrim deserves a 9.5, but in comparison with other games on the market I'll give it a strong 10.

I, to this day, have absolutely no problem dumping 6-8 hour sessions into this game. The story isn't fantastic, but it is more than sufficient enough to bring you back to it to obtain the special skills and weapons that it provides, but everyone knows that isn't why you play Skyrim. You play Skyrim for exploring the massive world, and it certainly doesn't fail to deliver on that. With all the patches that have been released the few issues remaining with the game are more than likely coming with all the mods that you have installed that can make this beautiful game look even better, or add even more deep gameplay. I purchased mine retail at GameStop, activated on Steam, and with the frequent patches and updates, I have not experienced any glitches or bugs what-so-ever.

There are also mods you can add to the game (extra animals, nature sounds, weapons, anything) that can provide an enhanced experience. Overall, I really enjoy this game... I also purchased Diablo3 since then, and I find myself returning to play Skyrim more often as I can easily get immersed in this epic environment. What can I say about Skyrim that has not already been said? If you have played the Elder Scrolls before, and thought, "Gee, I wish I could fight dragons and absorb their powers in a Viking-esque portion of the world of Tamriel", then this is your game.
The grapics are stellar, but if you don't like them, you can mod them for higher textures, and that is where the greatness starts. This game is fully moddable and changeable. If you had the controls, plug in a controller or download one of the control mods. Or, get up off your can and write one yourself.
Want lightsabers? My little pony? Warcraft? Naked girls? You can put any or all of this in the game, and way, way more.
Even the game mechanics themselves have mods that you can make or download.

Underneath the layers and layers of customization, the game is the classic Elder Scrolls series, but with added streamlining learned from the creation of the Fallout games. Added are kill shot animations, and a much smoother looking interface. As in all Elder scrolls games, you can really craft the type of hero you want, and adventure in your own way. Want to be a simple wood cutter? A massive orc warrior? A sly rogue? A flower picker? A mass murderer? A powerful wizard? Decide as you go? You can do it all and more. It's this level of choice and freedom that makes Skyrim one of my favorite games of all time. Sure, there are some parts where the action is drab and the quests are predictable, and the game does have some bugs... but the sheer amount of AAA content and options in the game is so impressive that it more than compensates for the shortcomings. You can literally play this game for years and find new content every time and have a unique experience! STOP READING AND BUY IT NOW!!! I give Skyrim my highest recommendations!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I've been a fan of the Elder Scrolls series since I purchased Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall back in 1996. Daggerfall was my favourite RPG game until last year when I purchased Elderscrolls V: Skyrim which has now become my favourite. The only other Elder Scrolls game I have played is Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind which I found to be tuned to be too easy and I found the dungeons to be too small. For me, Skyrim finally gets things right. The dungeons are not too small (like in Morrowind) or too big (like in Daggerfall) they are just right. So far the dungeons I have cleared have looked different from each other. The quests in this game are a refreshing change from the lame quests I've been doing in MMOs for the past few years. In Skyrim quests are epic, some are like clearing an dungeon to get an item, breaking into someone's well-guarded house to steel a deed for someone, etc. If you let NPCs get you drunk or talk to insane hobos you can end up in crazy places not knowing where you are. There are many plot twists in the quest-lines which keep things interesting. Sure there is the occasional quest where you can collect a pile of 10 bear pelts for someone, but to do that you need to go out in the wilderness and find 10 bears which are not that common so it will take a while and you can choose to ignore it or just collect them as you do other quests and exploration in the wilderness. The world of Skyrim rewards you for exploring the world, you will come across dungeons, witches covens, houses, temples, etc. that are not on your map and meet interesting people along the way. You can talk to most of the people you meet traveling the roads between the cities and some of them will give you quests. And there are no yellow exclamation marks over there heads lol, you just talk to random people and see what they say. It feels like you are playing a character in a real world with real other people. The characters you talk to are all voice acted well, albeit some of the minor characters like guards can be a bit repetitive (hence the "arrow in the knee" meme). This game gives new meaning to open questing. There are questlines you can follow in the game that tell a story and they are epic, the mages guild and thieves guild have their own quest-lines that lets you feel like you are hanging out with magey or theify types playing a character yourself. If you get this game you should get it on PC since this will allow you to download mods for it and use the console to enter cheat codes if you want. The default UI is lousy for a PC but you can download mods to fix it or alternatively you can buy a console-like controller for your PC. I don't use console cheats very often, just for annoying things where you have 50 lock picks and break them all while trying to unlock a master lock, etc. in which case I might give myself more lock picks or just use the cheat code to open the lock. Occasionally, I will save and use the console to enter god mode and just mess around for fun but I always go back and do it properly. After all as my old gym teacher used to say when you did your pushups wrong, "You're only cheating yourself!" if you cheat on a solo game ha ha. But Skyrim has been the best game I've played in a while and it gave me a nice break from my WoW addiction when I quit WoW. If you like rpgs and/or are sick of MMOs then I highly recommend this game. I give it a 10/10. Expand

Maybe there are too many facilitates and interface for PC version is uncomfortable players (however there are still mods), but it doesn't change fact that this game is almost perfect and deserves high score ;)

I really enjoy how you can make a single character be pretty much everything, from a sword and shield wielding knight to a Mage with a staff, or whip out dual-wielding axes. I have to say that Skyrim has some of the best music/soundtrack of any game, and it mixes SO WELL with this world. You feel so free when you play this game, in a good and fluent way. It is easy to determine what you can and can't handle and you would think traveling is a chore, but its just too fun. A few things I would like to see changed for their MMO though would have to be a more diverse SET of voice acting for NPCs so its not so repetitive, and also the combat. Although I think the combat is ok, it certainly isn't the best. At times it is downright annoying especially in smaller spaces. There is the occasional repetition with dungeons as well, but they still feel pretty unique and treasure hunting is always a blast. Expand

This brings me to my next point; you DON'T have to pick a class. Certain races have at the start certain bonusses over other races, (your levels are slightly higher.) The fighting feels very natural and is thought through. The world looks AMAZING, and if you have patience, is not to big at all, like other people may imply. Also, you get the feeling that Skyrim has been there long before you came, and that it will continue to exist, long after you die; a lot of the people in Skyrim are named, and have daily routines, work, go to the pub, visit other people and go home to sleep. Hello! Ok this game has been out for a while now and i don't even know how i flicked to this page to read some past reviews of it, but after doing so i was so enraged i had to write my own.

First of all, let me make it abundantly clear, anyone who hasn't scored this game at least a 9/10 is either using a very badly made PC or they are regular users of grade A narcotics. That is all there is to it. On a good spec machine, the graphics are BREATHTAKING, especially some of the outdoor vistas. The various locations used throughout the game are all very atmospheric and the feeling of being immersed is complete.

Second of all, the level of detail and programming that has gone into this game puts any other software developer to shame. Bethesda game studios is one of the last great programming groups, and you only have to see the depth of this game and level of thought that has gone into it to see why. Its not just a game, this level of polish and detail only comes from a labour of love. You can tell the developers really wanted to make this game. Its better than any 10 other games currently out on the market, and whether that is a testament to the quality of Skyrim, or the degraded state of the game industry, i can't call it.

The fact remains, this game is awesome. If for some unknown reason you haven't ever played it yet, do so now and say goodbye to a good few joyful weeks.

Last point. I hear criticisms. Ok, when Skyrim was first released it did have some bad bugs and crashes. However that just shows how enormous the game is in my eyes, and that you can't hope to games test every bug out of a game so large. These bugs were very quickly fixed with a number of patches and the game is now bug free. The other criticism i hear is the minimum number of voice actors that were used.................really? You would mark and otherwise stupendous game down because they didnt use enough different voice actors??? Laughable. Some people just don't get it.

Even if you don't like this game because of the setting or the genre, anyone who tries to mark it down because they don't like it is simply refusing to acknowledge that its a great game. They personally just don't like it. I am sick of hearing references to Oblivion and Morrowind, people saying they were better. No they weren't. They were different, not better. Yes Morrowind was bigger, but it also had various faults that people seem to overlook constantly. Like Skyrim, when it was released it was also riddled with bugs. People are just never happy. I remember people used to slate Oblivion, saying Morrowind was much better. Yet now, apparently Oblivion is the best thing since sliced bread?

Bottom line, this game is awesome. Fact.

The story in this game, what is that? Let the question sink in for a moment.
So what is the story in this game actually? Well how I see it, is that the story is what you decide to do. You literally never have to do the "main" story. You do what the heck you want in this open world sandbox rpg. And I love it. In fact I hope more games even MMORPGs do this.

The sound in this game, by Jeremy Soule is really good. Sound/Music in games is actually ridiculously important. I enjoy the music in the game.

Quests in this game is not like other RPGs that I've played. You walk around but you're not talking to an npc and reading 4 paragraphs of text, NO! For instance you walk on the road (like a normal person) and then suddenly you see a woman potentially getting kidnapped by som wild men. And then you help her (or else you're a weird person) and then you get a reward of some sort. Everything is dynamic.

When I say that everything is dynamic, I mean the combat as well. When using a bow for instance, you have to aim at the target. There is also gravity on the arrow (obviously since it's an arrow). You actually have to aim with swords/axes/maces as well. You could even run out of the way. Magic works the same way as bow'n arrow, but there is no gravity that is taking it down, it just fades away.

You have 1000's of quests to do in this fantastic world of skyrim. And also "guilds". The Companions, The Thieves Guild, The Dark Brotherhood and The Mages College of Winterhold. You can join all of them actually, and become the leader in all of them too. I'm not going to give any spoilers of these tho.

The Daedric quests are in my opinion the hardest ones. And they are awesome as well with a lot of stuff to do before you're done with one.

All around a legendary game, if you haven't bought it yet.. Go do it NOW!!

Actually, I'm pretty sure you can ignore the main quest entirely if you really wanted to. Given that, the game does allow you to set your own pace and handle your story at a pace and style that you choose. Gorgeous visuals definitely makes the environment and the very game come alive (that can be enhanced and made even more realistic with mods!). This game is alot of fun and I'm a low spec pc gamer, so I never review by graphics, just by how the story is, sound, combat, etc. I haven't been getting any bugs that would break the game or that would make horses fly backwords lol, pretty sure it's there pc that's the problem, also my friend showed me a few neat glitches that you could do in the game.

The combat is wonky, like could you display the hitbox and my range that my weapon would be able to make contact with the enemy like how you get from those mmorpg games, which i'm used to so I'm alright with it. The bows however were okay, the melee with it seemed to me to be not very effective like I'm expecting a stagger when I hit someone with it, it would sometimes work tho. Let's not forget about those finishing blows and kill cams which made the combat glories!

I couldn't hear the sound very well since the volume was set on it's low default setting, the music however was unexpectedly great like I didn't go into the tavern just to hear a bard sing, later requesting more from him or her. Also when I started to fight a dragon I began to get all confused at first from the music like is there someone else there with me, it was badass tho once I realized it was just the music playing.

When I first looked at the map I thought it was small, but later kept running into a bunch of quest and caves that would take hours to complete, so now I don't know if I'll ever get anywhere. Awesome exploration easy 10 out of 10 there.

The story was ehh, straightforward. I just focus on what I'm going to around skyrim so I don't really look at the main quest so much.

Gameplay is great, I get to lockpick, steal from people pockets, adopt, and I don't know what else. The races would have there own special talent and the npcs would address you as that race, well I have only done the argonian so I'm unsure about the others.

The score is a 10! Now I may have been to quick to judge since I haven't gotten to far into the game, but this world is just so luminous and you're even able to use mods with would make the fun endless so this game deserves a 10 since this was able to even get my friends addicted.

Knowledge: 2nd Elder Scroll Game (1st was ESO but for a short time) I just started to play the game, 35 hours in so far as an argonian archer w/ only a mod that removed that suffocating sound when emerging from the water.

    Story:
After starting the game, you are once again tied up and sent to the executioner's block (starting out as a prisoner again, YAY!), after you are freed, you discover that dragons are returning to Skyrim. Leading the return is the World Eater, Alduin. You are the Dragonborn (legendary dragon hunter), and it is your destiny to defeat Alduin and save Tamreal. The story here isn't the most original, but it's still good. I also enjoyed all the guild storylines as well. Every character you meet is well voiced (even if Bethesda uses the same voice actor/actress), and the world of Skyrim has so much backstory to it that it would take up the entire chunk of this review. The story here may not be better than Oblivion, but it's still great. 8/10

    Gameplay:
Like I said, Skyrim is filled with so much backstory that you'll be too distracted with exploring new areas, clearing out and learning more about dungeons, meeting new N.P.C.s, and creating your own adventures that you'll forget about the main questline (especially if you plan on replaying as a new character). The combat though, is not that strong. The combat is mostly just mouse-spamming, along with archery, sneaking, magic, and using shouts (special rechargeable abilities). It's good, but not great. The map is HUGE (bigger than GTA 5), so it'll take a few hours to discover every location on the map. The skill system has also been improved. You rank up a skill (limit:100) by doing that activity (archery, lockpicking, pickpocketing, etc.), reading skill books, or buying training from certain N.P.C.s. There are 251 perks in the game (some can be upgraded multiple times), and your going to have to respec (reset perk points using Dragonborn DLC or mods) in order to experience all perks. At the start of the game, you get to choose your character's race (10 are available), and customize him/her to your preference (although the character customization is weak). I've played the legendary edition, and there are barely any bugs that I've seen (unless you decide to use mods. Be careful). The only complaint that I had was that dragon battles are really anti-climactic. Because of the weak combat system, dragons are simple to kill, and they don't change up there strategy. Eventually, you'll get tired of fighting them, and you might learn to just run away and ignore them. This isn't a major issue as I've spent a total of around 400 plus hours playing this game, and most of your time isn't spent fighting dragons, it's exploring and creating your own adventures in this large and atmospheric world. And I would still like to return for more. 10/10

    Graphics:
The game's graphics now aren't that amazing to look at (still a large improvement over Oblivion). Although, the backgrounds, character models, item design, and some textures look really good at max settings, I still like the lighting, colors, and dynamic weather this game has, even if it's from 2011. Also, the high res texture pack barely does anything to improve the look of the game. Still, the visuals are nice to look at, and will keep you satisfied. 8/10

    Sound:
Another high point is definitely the game's beautiful soundtrack. The score has a nice mixture of soft melodic tracks (that play when you're in a city or exploring in the nice quiet environment with the weather nice and sunny), and hard, intense, and drum pounding pieces (that play when you're in the middle of an intense fight with some bandits or a dragon). All the sound effects in this game (footsteps, pulling out a weapon, shouts, casting a spell, hitting someone with a weapon, lockpicking, etc.) are really good and are quite an improvement over Oblivion. Bethesda really nailed the score and sound of Skyrim. I would gladly pay full price for the game's soundtrack. 10/10

    Verdict:
Skyrim was one of the best games of 2011. And now almost 3 years later, it still holds up. The story is good, the gameplay is large and excellent, the graphics still look fine, and the sound just immerses you into the world of Tamreal. I highly encourage anyone who hasn't already purchased this game to go out and get it (especially after all the DLC packs and price drops). I recommend you get it on PC though for a number of reasons: MUCH SHORTER load times, less bugs, console commands (sort of like cheat codes), and mods (guaranteed to add a few dozen more hours to your total time played). I'm not saying the console versions are bad (I played on the PS3 version as well), But you should definitely play this on PC, along with some cool and fun mods. Verdict: 10/10

The perfect hack and slash fantasy. Low raters are either far too choosey or don't understand Skyrim's genre, which is a very old one and is harder to come by these days. If you're looking for more character depth, video games aren't the answer. Try pen and paper RPGs.

Because, seriously how long do you play a video game? 5 hours? 10 hours? 20 hours? Mostly 40 hours? I have played Skyrim over 200 hours and with new mods coming out day by day, it never becomes boring. Yes! Mods are the second good part of it. With the mods, all atmosphere becomes real, almost comes alive. What makes a game perfect is only the players. And how much you are a good gamer, that much Skyrim is good. If you complain about Skyrim, no offence but you are a bad, impatient and obsessed gamer. If you don't know about the mods, you better learn them immediately. Because with them, a masterpiece of Bethesda, turns out masterpiece of yours. Probably that's what Bethesda wish: Give the chance to players for showing their imaginations. So, if you do have some imagination, you should definitely try Skyrim even though you didn't play previous TES games. Expand

The numerous quests in this game are very diversified, interesting and fun to do. The main story is very elaborate, suspenseful and offers some surprising twists. The sound is simply great and adds a lot to the overall atmosphere. The playtime lies at several 100 hours and since this game offers you so many possibilities and so many different ways to solve the quests and to develop your character you can easily play it a second and third time once you completed it without the game getting boring. It has a great leveling up system from 16 skills and the more you practice each skill, the more powerful you become at it. You can create your own potions at alchemy labs, smith your own weapons and armor at forges, and then you can enchant them to be more powerful, you can even name them. If you get enough money, you can buy a house and put all of the items that you have collected from your adventures into it, wherever you want. The game allows you to go wherever you want whenever you want and there are no invisible walls. The sound tract is amazing, the graphics look great, especially considering how massive this game is. There are hundreds of different books that you can collect and you can read each one, some of them even upgrade your skills. As you become a greater hero, people start to sing songs about you in inns. The game feels very organic with realistic wildlife, where wolves hunt their pray. I usually don't say this, but the game is better to have on the xbox as it was originally designed for it. it is also has ,ore glitches on the PC version as well. Unfortunately, Skyrim trips and falls on its own (most probably, to make the cool-sounding deadline of 11-11-11) and just before it reaches perfection as the ultimate specimen of its genre, it self-destructs in a crucial aspect of game design: the interface and the peripheral components (inventory, journal, map, etc)... but that is not to say that Skyrim is anything but a truly majestic, epic RPG that will suck you right in its cosmos.
