Still, Terraria is a great adventure, one of the best sandbox games around, and an absolute steal for ten bucks on Steam. It's well worth checking out for anyone, regardless of how they feel about Minecraft. Despite having one fewer dimension, Terraria hides greater depth than its 3D cousin.

You stick your nose under your first sod and there you are – in another world. Terraria is not much of a Minecraft 2D rip-off, it's an addictive pursuit of perfection that entertains; even though it stinks of a sweat from the adits.

Terraria is the best Minecraft clone on the market. Version 1.05 add many items and the Hardcore mode, which is the ultimate Terraria experience to try!

Terraria is a small production that offers a cross between Mario and Minecraft... like a 2D platformer with craftsmanship and free construction. Quite limited in its realization, this title makes you play immediately for hours if you like the concept. Just take breaks from time to time!

The open-sandbox creation genre is still in its infancy, and Terraria is a good, solid, and inexpensive entry.

An interesting bidimensional twist of the well known Minecraft: Terraria is accustoming and incredibily "deep" (literally).

With great pixel art, endearing music and lots of retro aspects, terraria will occupy me for years to come. This idea is still fresh and I'm glad somebody didn't shy away from it just because of MineCraft's recent success. Expand

With the musical accompaniment for every single gameplay moment the game gets even better! Minecraft is very often compared to Terraria, but that's not true! They are totally different games, while in Minecraft the main feature is explore: in Terraria your best friend is adventure!

Everyone who says this is a "2d Minecraft ripoff" is a completeI've only played this a little at a friend's house, but so far it is amazing. Everyone who says this is a "2d Minecraft ripoff" is a complete idiot. So they are both made of blocks, and they both have similar tools. But Minecraft is more of a creative game with less emphasis on survival and exploration, whereas in Terraria you build to protect yourself and not just for the sake of building. It also puts more focus on the adventuring aspect, encouraging you to go out and find new things rather than staying in the same general area. Also, the addition of NPCs gives Terraria a hint of RPG that Minecraft doesn't have (That's not to say it's bad, just that that's one part Mojang decided not to put in their game. But this review is about Terarria anyway, so who cares.) In short, the two are completely different games.
Now, if you are griping about the graphics, then I must assume you are twelve years old and don't have the maturity to realize that you are supposed to PLAY a game. If you want to WATCH something because it LOOKS good, that's what movies are for. And just because this game doesn't look like Call of Duty or StarCraft 2 doesn't make it bad. And also, even if the game looked like ****, as long as the graphics aren't so confusing and/or poor quality that it detracts from your ability to preform as a player, then it shouldn't matter. And if you say the graphics are stolen, then you are simply flaming with no evidence to back your statement up. And in a game where most graphics are a small, low-resolutuion, retro-RPG-style sprite, it's not hard to accidentally make something similar to another game.
And criticizing the music is even more of a boneheaded thing than criticizing the graphics. I mean, I personally like it but if you don't, there are things called the "volume key" and the "options menu," in which you can turn things like that off. Incredible, I know.
The clunky controls are hard to back up, but I suppose nothing is perfect. Same thing with the game speed in the beginning. Please note that I said "in the beginning," because after you have been going for a while things will start to seem to become faster by a combination of getting better tools and simply getting used to it. They could have made it a bit quicker to get going but it's still not as bad as some other games I have seen.
And, don't just take it from me. There are plenty of professional, well-known gamers (TotalBiscuit for one) who would also back this and other, similar games up in the fight against shallow-minded graphics hounds

There just isn't a reason not to try this. From its well designed progression, to its creative and fun weapons, to its brilliant music and boss design, to its refined building and crafting systems, this game succeeds in every area a 2D sandbox should. The unbelievable amount of free updates this game has gotten (and is still getting!) is evidence enough to show just how much of a labor of love and passion Terraria is, and it's in depth modding scene that is integrated into the game itself only adds to this. This game is just barely not a 10/10 imo, due to its lack of an integrated guide. You will have to use a wiki to get to the end of the game, there is no way around it, but due to the way it's designed I don't have a big issue with that. Expand

Isn't it just like Minecraft except 2D? Well, while Terraria and Minecraft share similiar aspects such as building and mining, Terraria is more focused on exploration and combat. With dozens of caves filled with chests and skeletons it gives you more of a reason to explore than Minecraft does. It has more to do as after I got my diamond equipment in Minecraft the game started to become, honestly quite boring. Building was fun for a while but it just didn't last. Terraria offers more to do and has more replay value than Minecraft on it's own. Sure Minecraft is fun but honestly the updates have been slow and Terraria now has more potential. Expand
