In a bold move, Team Meat has stirred the successful recipe of Super Meat Boy and has delivered a runner-type game in its sequel; SMBF. The procedural level generation algorithm seems to work wonders and the new art-style is modernizes the game. Very interesting ideas in the gameplay mechanics, and increased difficulty promise to keep you engaged for as long as you want to hone your skills. It never ends.

From its sharp art and bouncy soundtrack to the sheer insane usage of a world-seeding system that makes it incredibly replayable, It should be held as an industry standard for years to come, just as its predecessor was.

Super Meat Boy Forever’s simplified controls produce a bit of frustration, but this is a game that rewards pushing through the pain for the thrill that comes with completing a harrowing platforming sequence.

Super Meat Boy Forever makes some big mechanical changes but maintains its predecessor's reputation as one of gaming's toughest, most satisfying platforming challenges.

Super Meat Boy Forever asks a lot of the player but also makes sure that they’ve got the tools to master its challenge while also being considerate enough to make each one approachable in bite-sized chunks. A perfectly-run level takes less than a minute and is divided up into sections that are rarely longer than ten seconds, but each second requires focus. And if that focus slips then a retry is instant with little time lost, making it easy to try again, and again, and again until Doctor Fetus finally realizes what a terrible idea it is to antagonize the Meat Boy/Bandage Girl family.

Super Meat Boy Forever is a fun game overall but we feel it's a step back compared to its predecessor.

Super Meat Boy Forever is an unforgiving 2D platform for hardcore gamers, but it lacks that sense of innovation that the original game brought to the table.

Such a bold change did not make the game more fun, but it will disappoint the fans who love the predecessor.

The problem with the new Super Meat Boy is that it’s not the old Super Meat Boy. We have waited a decade for the sequel and it turned out to be an autorunner, which is not necessarily a welcome surprise. Two buttons is all you need, which makes CMBF very easy to grasp, but limited control over the protagonist can be maddening, especially that the game is even harder than the original. Having said that, the developers managed to squeeze a lot out of the simplified control scheme, and while I understand the game disappointed many fans, I still recommend it to those of you looking for a serious challenge. Super Meat Boy Forever remains as vibrantly revolting as you remember the original being, but the platforming design doesn't live up to the established pedigree. The studio deserves credit for trying something different. If only Meat Boy's simple joys weren't diminished in the transition.

Super Meat Boy was an incredibly good platformer, but this sequel is not as good as the original game and the reason is simple: Super Meat Boy Forever is now an autorunner. This makes the Team Meat game even harder than it was, and that affects to the gameplay itself transforming this game in something less fun than it could have been.

Ten years after Super Meat Boy, SMB Forever has the merit to try something new and yes, maybe surprising. Unfortunately, the switch from a classic platform game to an autorunner risks leaving a lot of fans behind. But the game absolutely does not sink into mediocrity despite its few flaws.

In the end, a game that can be walked through by hanging on a bit, without really doing its predecessor honor.

While Super Meat Boy Forever is a good game, it really doesn’t compare to the original sense of precision movement and extreme difficulty that stuck out to the fans.

Despite its appeal to nostalgia and the phenomenal success of the first game, Super Meat Boy Forever fails to deliver its promises and ends up undermining the IP and design of the game it's based upon.

Super Meat Boy Forever is not a bad game but it feels like a regression from the original, which was just as tough but offered more options for players willing to try and get past the many obstacles the game threw at them. Fans of the concept will appreciate the unyielding difficulty and the lack of ways to tweak it. But given the changes to the mechanics, it would be nice to see Team Meat make their new title easier to appreciate with less frustration.

What feels like a tremendous opportunity to reimagine the Super Meat Boy franchise has been squandered. Pure and simple. We will eventually come to appreciate what Super Meat Boy Forever does well, but it is far from living up to the acclaim of its predecessor.

Once players get over the shock of its mechanical departures, Super Meat Boy Forever offers a solid and relentless auto-running experience. But there's no denying that this long-awaited sequel doesn't deliver the impact nor addictive magnetism of its predecessor. Regardless, those willing to look past this initial disappointment will discover a satisfactory time-killer, strongly adhering to the great visuals, manic presentation, and twisted humor that is the franchise's trademark.

Super Meat Boy Forever is a disappointing follow-up to one of the best platformers of all-time.

Super Meat Boy Forever feels completely overtaken by time. The game is inferior to its predecessor in every way. The biggest problem is the fact that an autorunner like Forever leaves much less control to the player. The levels and bosses in Super Meat Boy Forever are therefore more annoying and frustrating than fun and challenging.

While Super Meat Boy is arguably one of the best modern 2d platformers, the same cannot be said about Super Meat Boy Forever. The game abandons much of the identity of the original in order to try and offer players infinite replay value with a more stripped-down gameplay style. But rather than a game that encourages repeat playthrough, Super Meat Boy Forever is more fun to watch than it is to actually play.

This is an auto-runner in the vain of a mobile game. I now know that this project started as an auto runner version of smb1 for mobile devices before they expanded it for pc and console and it became it's own thing. If you enjoy those games you will probably love this, I dont. I bought this impulsively when I saw it for sale, not even knowing it was in development as I was a huge fan of the first game and have played through it on almost every platform it's available on. While it was downloading I learned that levels would be randomly generated, which seemed like a cool idea, though it worried me since we've seen 1000 times how randomly generated levels lack the care and bespoke nature of handcrafted levels, but I remained optimistic until I started the game and saw meat boy just charging full speed ahead with no input from me. I thought it was a demo or tutorial or something. Once I realized what kind of game it was I almost immediately turned it off, but I gave it as much of a chance I could and I can definitely state now that I hate it. These types of games domt appeal to me whatsoever, but i guess it's my own fault for getting so excited seeing a new meat boy title that I didnt do the research I would normally do. For what it is, its polished and is definitely the best game of this genre that I've played but that puts it at the top of a mountain of **** It only hurts so bad and I only rate it so low because its marketed as a sequel to one of the best platformers and best indie games ever made, and it is just not that. Very disappointing. As much as I'd love to support team meat I'm going to have to try to refund it from epic, cuz it's just not fun. Full Review »

So I made the leap of faith and just bought it without knowing anything about it outside of loving part one immensely for its challenging but always very fair gameplay. So, should you be excited for Super Meat Boy Forever? It depends on if you can live with the controls!

    First, the good:
they kept the original comical over-the-top humor of the first Super Meat Boy, down to the last charming sharp line art, graphic settings can go up to 4K natively, making this super crisp. A perfect fit for the comic style art.
The music and atmosphere are a great continuation from part one.
It's super challenging again - read: throw your controller at the screen - hard (again).
Levels are procedurally generated. Yes. No Sawblade will ever be the same on all your playthroughs.
    Controls are sharp and responsive....

... but you can only control jumping and ducking... the game does the "running" for you!

It's an auto runner. Meaning you cannot control the direction nor even the speed of your meaty protagonist. Outside of being stopped by a straight 90° wall, there's no stopping. After trying to overcome my sincere dislike of this for an hour, I put away my controller in disgust. Seems I just cannot like the "Auto" anything genre, outside of its use on mobile phones with limited input options, and even then it's a big "meh" for me.

A mobile iteration is which is what was intended for the game originally as far as I gathered, but losing the ability to directly control the protagonist on the "big platforms" with an actual controller kills the game outright for me on a controller-based platform like console or PC.

I do like it's a side scroller now, and procedurally generated, too... but not being able to be in the driver seat here is just not for me.

Sorry, Team Meat. I'll be getting this refunded for now.

I was just as disappointed as these people crapping on the game when I heard it was an auto runner. But what Team Meat has done with thisI was just as disappointed as these people crapping on the game when I heard it was an auto runner. But what Team Meat has done with this game, it is still just as difficult, you still feel like a ninja pulling off the controls to make it thru one of the levels, the replays are still awesome showing all your attempts at once. In reality you wouldn't even want to control meat boy in this because there are too many other things your mind is digesting to get thru these levels. Also I think it's awesome that a keyboard is a legitimate way to play the game now, and it works awesome. Gamepad is awesome also. Anyway if you like the first then this is a must have. If you like N++ then this is also a must have. I'm telling you. I was a hater maybe 3 hours ago lol. Great game, Team Meat, please don't make us wait this long for the next one!! Full Review »
