    I. I just cannot understand. They are saying this is not the sequel they are waiting for and they say that it disappointed them, saying that it is a cheap runner trash game. they... why?

First of all. Most people become instantly disinterested or dissapointed as soon as they discover that it is an auto runner, thinking it cannot be good. Because mobile autorunners are typically trash.

First of all. Most people become instantly disinterested or dissapointed as soon as they discover that it is an auto runner, thinking it cannot be good. Because mobile autorunners are typically trash. this type of people often didn't even played the game, or played, but instantly quit as soon as they discover it is an autorunner. This is wrong, because for me it is very different from other aurorunners, it is more like a platformer in which you run automatically. It is definitely not a cheap mobile trash-type game. This is main the reason of hate toward this game, and also the most senseless one. Play it first. it is good. This game is not like what they thought. It is not like typical moblie autorunners.

The second reason is that they think it disappointed them as a sequel and it plays differently. They said it took away anything that made it so good. For this, I would say it is a completely worthy sequel. For me, reducing the controls make it possible to add more gimmicks. it also make the game fair and balaced instead of just being hard like the first game. (the first game is still fair and balanced, just too hard for my taste) I would say it's level design is even better than the original. The original has saws and a lot of hazards. just a lot of them. Forever has far more mechanic and things that made up some very clever level designs. The original, while you had control, is purely skill based. While Forever is a faster-paced auto runner, it added puzzle element that require you to think in order to beat. Procedurally generated levels doesn't made it any less good, in fact, it is not actually generated: It's levels are a in fact a bunch of smaller hand-crafted levels linked together procedurally. It is still has good level designs. like the original. it is a completely worthy sequel, with different, but still amazing platforming challenges. It is the change in genre that made it so good and unique, but it simply doesn't fit in many people's taste. It is a brave choice, i like it, but good changes doesn't always make people happy. It indeed has nearly everything that has made the original so good, and much more.

Another reason they hate is because the music is different. I don't have much to say about this one, but for me it is perfectly fine.

The animated cutscene is no doubt perfect. there's no argue. The animation is far, far better than the first one with far less violence, grosteque or vulgar humor, and much more cuteness and heartwarming moments. Nugget is awesome.

The different mechanics are also amazing. especially the dimension spiders in the other side.

This is my opinion. you can disagree but i have said all i can say. For me it is simply amazing. I admire their hard work. Thanks you, Tommy. for giving us such a good game.

A tip to those negative reviewers: never write a review again in your life. Those wrongful reviews will only turn people away from this gem. I mean no offense, but you guys are seriously wrong.

"A game ruined by greed and smartphone gaming. Disgusting to see super meat boy turned into this joke. Literally 1 button to end the game."

***This game contains no greed. guaranteed you didn't played it.

"Its just an mobile game that they threw onto other platforms. At the beginning this was also announced as an mobile only game. The gameplay is slow, the hitboxes from the saws are bad and the Controls are unresponsive."

***It is too good to be on mobile. it is too good for mobile standards. slow because the graphic settings were incorrect. try set that something-i-forgot to 0x. The controls are super responsive. this is false review may I say.

"Disregard the man who gives these game a 10 and speaks directly out of a thesaurus.
Tell you to take what you get."

***I, too, heavily disregard the mans who give it a low score despite having no further knowledge of the game. I played throught it, and it is good. I read this full review and it was seriously wrong. he didn't grabbed the real substance of the game at all.

All those **** idiot called this amazing gem a trash, corrupted by mobile market and greed, became a mobile trash like that, all because IN THIS GAME YOU AUTORUN, just because you got a less control, Doesn't mean this game is that bad. I know changes are hard to accept, but being an autorunner, in this case, only made it better. You lose some controls, But, In exchange you got massively clever puzzle design with great potential. and they didn't waste any of them.

In conclusion they are wrong. This game is perfect with almost nothing to nitpick. I would definitely like to play this game..

    Forever.

Thanks tommy for giving us such a good game.

85% cutscenes, 15% actual gameplay. A huge letdown for me.

If you liked SMB and wanted more, play The End is Nigh instead. For some reason, they decided to make this an auto runner, and it makes the game that much worse. It feels more like a mobile game than anything.

I now know that this project started as an auto runner version of smb1 for mobile devices before they expanded it for pc and console and it became it's own thing. If you enjoy those games you will probably love this, I dont. I bought this impulsively when I saw it for sale, not even knowing it was in development as I was a huge fan of the first game and have played through it on almost every platform it's available on. While it was downloading I learned that levels would be randomly generated, which seemed like a cool idea, though it worried me since we've seen 1000 times how randomly generated levels lack the care and bespoke nature of handcrafted levels, but I remained optimistic until I started the game and saw meat boy just charging full speed ahead with no input from me. I thought it was a demo or tutorial or something. Once I realized what kind of game it was I almost immediately turned it off, but I gave it as much of a chance I could and I can definitely state now that I hate it. These types of games domt appeal to me whatsoever, but i guess it's my own fault for getting so excited seeing a new meat boy title that I didnt do the research I would normally do. For what it is, its polished and is definitely the best game of this genre that I've played but that puts it at the top of a mountain of **** It only hurts so bad and I only rate it so low because its marketed as a sequel to one of the best platformers and best indie games ever made, and it is just not that. Very disappointing. As much as I'd love to support team meat I'm going to have to try to refund it from epic, cuz it's just not fun. Expand

I was super excited for Super Meat Boy (taking) Forever to hit EPIC Store on Dec 23. So I made the leap of faith and just bought it without knowing anything about it outside of loving part one immensely for its challenging but always very fair gameplay. So, should you be excited for Super Meat Boy Forever? It depends on if you can live with the controls!

    First, the good:
they kept the original comical over-the-top humor of the first Super Meat Boy, down to the last charming sharp line art, graphic settings can go up to 4K natively, making this super crisp. A perfect fit for the comic style art.
The music and atmosphere are a great continuation from part one.
It's super challenging again - read: throw your controller at the screen - hard (again).
Levels are procedurally generated. Yes. No Sawblade will ever be the same on all your playthroughs.
    Controls are sharp and responsive....

... but you can only control jumping and ducking... the game does the "running" for you!

It's an auto runner. Meaning you cannot control the direction nor even the speed of your meaty protagonist. Outside of being stopped by a straight 90° wall, there's no stopping. After trying to overcome my sincere dislike of this for an hour, I put away my controller in disgust. Seems I just cannot like the "Auto" anything genre, outside of its use on mobile phones with limited input options, and even then it's a big "meh" for me.

A mobile iteration is which is what was intended for the game originally as far as I gathered, but losing the ability to directly control the protagonist on the "big platforms" with an actual controller kills the game outright for me on a controller-based platform like console or PC.

I do like it's a side scroller now, and procedurally generated, too... but not being able to be in the driver seat here is just not for me.

Sorry, Team Meat. I'll be getting this refunded for now.

But man, this just isn't Meat Boy.

Before I get all negative I'll give my positive thoughts. The art and animation are absolutely superb. I was not bothered by the style switch, and I really love all the cutscenes in the game. The game hasn't lost it's vulgar and comedic mood, and keeping the intros to each world as a reference to other games was nice.
Despite the gameplay changes, the controls still feel tight and responsive, and the new warp zones are much more creative than the ones from the original SMB.

That being said, that is about all this game has going for it. The game is an auto-runner, which series like BIT.TRIP have proven isn't necessarily a bad thing. The levels are designed with auto run in mind, and gimmicks are still present and as sharp as always, but the lack of control in this case just feels awful. I loved SMB because I felt fully in control of the character, now I can't even change directions without aid of a wedge, and cannot stop without walls/conveyor belts. This lack of control really makes the game feel like it never really departed from just being a mobile game.
Auto-Running aside, the area where the game really falls off is the procedurally generated levels. Doing this was just a terrible idea. Random chunks every time leads to a non-existent difficulty curve. I had a level in World 2 that was miles harder than the entirety of the final one, for example. You also get into situations where two particular chunks in succession make the game near impossible, or just plain bad spawns (One chunk spawned me in such a way that I had to immediately jump or be killed by a saw). This combined with inconsistent collectibles just really makes it hard to want to collect much of anything in the game. I found myself just slogging through the long levels waiting to see the next cutscene.

Overall, this game is honestly a fine auto runner, just nowhere near a worthy sequel to Super Meat Boy. If you want a real evolution of the Meat Boy formula go play The End is Nigh. I got SMB:F for 7 bucks with an Epic coupon, and I wouldn't recommend paying more than that for this game. Don't go in expecting the sequel to SMB.

But here is what we are reading for. the gameplay.
What you wanted was Super Meat Boy
what you got was another autorunner clone

You are literally playing another mobie game this game is literally designed to favour after searching I discovered that it was originally a mobile designed game they decided to port to other systems and boy can you feel it in the controls.
Its clunky, its slow has annoying delay, has stupid respawn points ever 5 seconds for when you die (which you will do due to poor controls)
Also it will respawn you in dumb spots close to points that kill you so if you not lucky your are stuck.

Levels are randomly generated but also lazy at the same time, you can at the start of the game have levels harder than the rest of the entire game basically removing all progression which defeats the purpose of the world system.

They should have basically given a world theme option and just hit play.

The music is drivel you get some kids game style soundtrack from the get go that lacks any real depth compared to the original.Sure you get real music in the later levels but they sound like its an isaac clone than anything.

If you a normal user and thought this would play like old isaac it doesnt, unless you researched otherwise you wouldnnt know.

The store pages only advertise as "wow 7500 levels" "great soundtrack" "eclipses the original"
The trailers all are splice in a way that it looks like original isaac gameplay.

Theres no real replay value, the difficulty is artificially forced and behind a RNG factor. The game is first and formost a mobile game if you wanted Meat Boy play celeste, play the original.
if you want a fun autorunner play bit trip or any of the specifically designed ones that were made exclusively for that and play on their strong points.

If you want to play SMB forever any other mobile game like rayman forever etc

But the endless runner bit... not being able to control my movement makes this feel more like a very refined mobile game. Perhaps I just need to get better at the game, and don't realize how much I suck but it seems like it's more of about good timing than skill. Although I suppose that could be considered a skill.

I'll keep playing it and hope that I get used to the endless runner aspect.

I will add that I truly believe anyone giving this game 0-5 is really doing a disservice to the game. Sure it's a runner, sure I don't like that, but the gameplay is tight, the platforming is a legit challenge, the animations are very good and also humorous. Runner's aren't for me, but as someone who hates runners I'm comfortable saying this is a great game. If you like runners buy it, and if you don't it's at least worth a try. I have spent 2 hours playing this game and I have spent 90% of the time finding something positive, which I didn't. And don't tell me it took 2 years to make this mobile game. Expand

Also I think it's awesome that a keyboard is a legitimate way to play the game now, and it works awesome. Gamepad is awesome also. Anyway if you like the first then this is a must have. If you like N++ then this is also a must have. I'm telling you. I was a hater maybe 3 hours ago lol. Great game, Team Meat, please don't make us wait this long for the next one!! Expand

Still as challenging, fun, and better written than the original. If you're scared of the auto-run aspect, give it a try, the whole hlevel design is built around it.
Also, it isn't procedurally generated, à level is just assembled of multiple hand crafted chunks

I'm glad they took a risk! Great, fair challenge! I'd say go for it!

Also like 60% of the bad reviews are going to be some Epic Store mind numbing BS. I'm sure you are mature enough to ignore that obnoxious bandwagon. There are no "good" big corporations, but rating indie games poorly isn't going to destroy one of the biggest media companies on Earth. Although, maybe it will. I am disappointed. Coming from the original SMB, I was a bit surprised by the choice of making this an autorunner where the gameplay is tuned down to pressing two different buttons (you could that on a mobile device such as a smartphone as well). Coming from the original SMB, I was a bit surprised by the choice of making this an autorunner where the gameplay is tuned down to pressing two different buttons (you could that on a mobile device such as a smartphone as well). This turns the whole gameplay into just a boring timing reaction game instead of giving you, as the player, some opportunity to make up for bad moves or try to improvise with unusual ideas. It feels such as you are never actually in control, just trying with trial-and-error to get through the world as some player who is there for some ingame character you cannot identify with as you got no real control.

The fact that the levels are now semi-autogenerated is something which I also strongly dislike as there can be parts where even after a lot of trying no really good way can be found to master it, and the game does not give you any hints by the level design, which was also much better solved in the first game in my eyes. There I had the feeling that I just knew what I was doing wrong and now needed to figure out how to make it better. In SMB Forever I just feel like I am doing something wrong which I cannot say what I am doing incorrectly, just that I am. It is so annoying and not in a good way where you want to get better, but in a way where you want to get a refund. Or to make it short: The difficulty balancing is off, way off on what it should be.

What I do like is the fair price point of about 16€ (Austria) in case you can enjoy the day (I don't/didn't), the overall art style and how the gameplay feels (i.e. very smooth frame times, good reactions to inputs).

Destroyed expectations, different from the original, controls are annoying at first
But has varied gameplay, high replayability, still challenging, nice bosses, good level-design.
At first, I didn't like it, then I liked it very much.

There is a constant sense of wonder this game brings me.

The level design is ingenious, some levels have a lot of verticality and can even get labyrinthic, each level brings a new mechanic, cleverly explored in it´s chunks, it gets very creative in the last 2 worlds, and downright insane in the extra world, and then in new game+, not only the chunks it gives you get harder, but seem start exploring the mechanics in different ways (new game: break the glass, new game+: don´t break the glass) this last point might be a coincidence, since levels are composed of random chunks made for each level, if not, I don´t know if it´ll be the case for other loops, but it still shows the level designers' talent for keeping things fresh.

The attention to detail to it´s presentation elements is also crazy, the cutscenes are unexpectedly exciting and effectively rise the stakes for the great boss fights, the backgrounds are so richly detailed that I´m constantly finding new things in them, Dark World shows some cool color schemes and lighting, and the warp zones not only provide fun, challenging minigames to break the peace, each has a wildly different art style that accurately pays tribute to the games that inspire each and also can be mastered, unlocking the coolest skins in the game, the normal skins are already greatly detailed, but the warp skins keep the art style of each zone and even it´s sound effects, slightly changing how the game feels, it´s even cool just to take each skin to the maps screen and seeing their different reactions to being in the Dark World, the map screen itself also has cool and different transitions from light to dark in each world.

The gameplay it's also surprisingly complex and involved for just using 2 buttons, diving brings you to the ground extremely fast, bringing a lot of downward speed to the game and also demanding fast reactions in itself, as you often have to punch out of it to get to safety, punching feels great too, each punched enemy, gets you another punch, which is great for faster travel and often used to traverse pits by a series of enemies to punch and dive trough or used along with dives to traverse tight, saw filled spaces, punching bosses into submission is also feels fantastic and very arcadey, all of this combined with the fact that each level presents a new mechanic makes for a lot of intricacies and variety.

When it comes to the soundtrack, I´ve never been a big fan of Ridiculon, Danny B. is a though act to follow in the games I´ve heard their music in, however, in this game they knock it out of the park, the boss themes and most dark world themes are rocking and exciting.

Extremely recommended if you like auto runners, with the caveat that it is a lot about trial and error, you can get good at it, I blazed my way trough some of the NG+ world 2 chunks without dying, but even then, though most chunks allow for a reasonable margin of error, sometimes experimentation, some are really strict with execution and others puzzle like in nature, that might demand a lot of tries until you figure out what´s even going on. frustration is a real thing for some of the harder chunks, but also a great deal of excitement and satisfaction for some of those.

If you are a fan of the original, (like myself, 106% it, though couldn't bother with the iron man achievements, nor will I with this game) give it a shot, they are very different games but share some elements like wall sliding, keys that open walls and of course, lots of saws, the charm it's still there, if you like Meat Boy in general being a tribute to old school gaming, there is a lot of that here and it's very well done, and while the speed and great feeling of controlling Meat Boy trough the air of the original is gone, the new gameplay elements bring a different sense of speed and acrobatics that´s also great fun.

Main downside - sudden difficulty spikes or uneven difficulty due to procedural generation - sometimes it's even harder to A+ first world levels than the last. It has a lot of nods to the original, bosses and cartoons between the worlds are absolutely incredible, soundtrack and general vibe are very SMB-like. Autorunning kinda limits the movement but at the same time provides new challenge. There are plenty SMB-like platformers like The End is Nigh, Celeste and there's nothing wrong in taking sequel to the new territory. Stop with this 0-5 BS, the game is GOOD. Not great like the original, but good enough! Expand

    Dear Team Meat,

You usually need to identify the strengths of a game before doing its sequel. (Is SMBF even a sequel ?) Super Meat Boy has settled itself as a reference in the platformer genre for 3 main reasons :

-Artistic direction. The game sits astride cute and gore graphic designs in a very unique way. It's well put together, pretty and appealing for some reasons. I'll never forget the tears i shed while watching the first boss death cinematic. Watching these piles of squirrel corpses really hit me hard. Moreover when these tears reached the bottom of my face. They were touching a large smile. That's when my 12 years old self finally understood i was a psychopath.

-Difficulty. No need to argue, SMB release was definitely a pivot for the game controller market with the amount of controller broken over some dark world levels.

-Maneuvering. SMB air control was one of the most satisfying mechanics ever designed in a video game. You clearly had that feeling of velocity and momentum. Super Meat Boy was the kind of game that got you to stick your tongue out while enjoying feeling like an incredible minced beef ninja.

Team Meat. 0ne out of three of these aspects made it to SMB Forever : Artistic direction, well done.
However, the maneuverability is soporific making the game closer to a long ass QTE than a platformer. As for the difficulty, i sincerely couldn't tell as i didn't force myself to play this game more than one hour. After that amount of time i simply quit, disappointed.

SMBF isn't a sequel, it is a disheartening lazy attempt to make a new genre of game and i wouldn't recommend it. I'll however salute the well put together intro cinematic that got me hyped up and brought me 10 years ago in the incredible OG SMB universe. That and the iconic "SUPER MEAT BOY" menu screen shouting are pretty much the only good things this game has to offer.

    Wow.
    This game is genuinely amazing.
In some ways even better than the original Super Meat Boy, the people saying that this game is a cheap mobile game are just straight up wrong. This game is **** incredible, like really man. The gameplay and level design are just as tight and fun as the original, the autorunning mechanic doesn't matter, it's easy to get used to it and fun as **** and the animation and visuals are drop-dead gorgeous. The ass-kickin OST by Ridiculon and Co is incredible, And I love the story and plotline we've got, FINALLY an actual story for Meat Boy and Bandage Girl that isn't just newgrounds humor, I love newgrounds humor but this is way more welcome. I actually prefer this than having Edmund draw dead fetuses and somehow terribly connecting this to Isaac. This game is an actual masterpiece and it deserves way more acclaim than what it has right now.

The problem with the new Super Meat Boy is that it’s not the old Super Meat Boy. We have waited a decade for the sequel and it turned out to be an autorunner, which is not necessarily a welcome surprise. Two buttons is all you need, which makes CMBF very easy to grasp, but limited control over the protagonist can be maddening, especially that the game is even harder than the original. Having said that, the developers managed to squeeze a lot out of the simplified control scheme, and while I understand the game disappointed many fans, I still recommend it to those of you looking for a serious challenge. While Super Meat Boy Forever is a good game, it really doesn’t compare to the original sense of precision movement and extreme difficulty that stuck out to the fans.

Super Meat Boy Forever feels completely overtaken by time. The game is inferior to its predecessor in every way. The biggest problem is the fact that an autorunner like Forever leaves much less control to the player. The levels and bosses in Super Meat Boy Forever are therefore more annoying and frustrating than fun and challenging.
