And what makes me sad and furious most is that they attempt to corrupt and mutilate the very essence of gaming. Games as we know from the chess to battlefront means the challenge of skills and rules apply to all equally. EA wants to change that solid foundation, the definition of gaming. For whom? For whom has the money more. If gamers don't resist that wicked company the gaming itself as we know will die and become corrupted beyond our imagination.

The game is the embodiment of greed. It's a money grab at a popular movie and series of games that turned out to be a subpar modern shooter filled with microtransactions for a full price triple-A game. Very disappointing

The completely game breaking star card system ruins an impressive game and hides game progression behind a RNG. The MP progression is blatantly engineered to create frustration and funnel players to pay for loot boxes with real money, essentially turning the game into a pay to win game.

NOW LET ME GET INTO THESE SUBTITLES. Holy **** Did you hire a preschooler? There are blatant spelling mistakes. Check on the first into it is funny. I love that they call R2 artoo lol. I was dying.
The online multiplayer is a disaster with little to no game balance and usually has someone that pay to play with a kill streak of 6,000,000. It is like this on every map where someone just kills everyone and recycles the points and then becomes a hero again.

    Graphics, Music + Story Good/Interesting
Multiplayer- Bring out your credit card if you want these things unlocked because it is is going to take 6000 hours to do what you could in BF1 30 hours.

I do not recommend buying this game and am disappointed. It had so much potential and EA is really a trash company for not vetting this better. I am surprised they did not listen to all the Beta comments in more detail.

EA has a history of killing good games. Who the F is in your user groups. I want to know what the reaction was in your SCRUM standups "O Hey, I THINK ITS A GREAT IDEA TO LET PLAYERS GRIND FOR 6,000,000 HOURS TO UNLOCK A BLASTER PISTOL" Yup.

Barring that, the game is mediocre at best. Its pretty but very buggy and the campaign is very lacking.

When you add in the P2Win mechanics, and the immense grinds put in the game to provoke you into parting with just a little bit more of your Wallet, it drops all the way to a 1*. Then finally, they decided simply buying these things wasnt enough, and shoved them into "loot crates." A box that contains randomized rewards, so that when they advertize a special "limited time item" (only found in these crates), you run out and spend, spend, spend looking for this item. They get around this being called "gambling" by saying, you never "lose" as you always get "Something" from you crate.

The ESRB and PEGI have both sided with developers that this is not gambling. Wheras Japan has cited that they consider these tactics to be predatory and a form of gambling, and since passed a law that these boxes must now reveal exactly what loot can be found in them as well as the exact odds of every item, so that people can make educated decisions about thier purchases. And now Belgium's gaming commision has just come out and said that in light of THIS game and Activisions' Overwatch. They now are opening an investigation into the loot box gaming practice to detirmine whether or not it is gambling. (Something PEGI didnt do, as they just sided with the ESRB without any investigation.)

    So overall, 0/10.

Quit being scumbags, EA. Your blatant greed is disgusting.

Update: EA has walked back their stance. and "temporarily disabled" microtransactions until they can find how best to re-implement them "after the global launch." Which is short for, please buy our game, we wont f*ck you so hard later, trust us.

Meanwhile, Belgiums Gaming Commision is now looking into EA's buisiness practices in light of this whole fiasco to detirmine if they believe that Loot Boxes are a predatory form of gambling.

If you pay for this game, you will be jumping into a game where people who had early access have unlocked or paid for all the guns and star card upgrades. The base weapons you start with suck. everyone else has 1-2 hit guns. You start with 5-6 shots to kill. Your guns are the equivalent of spraying enemies with a water hose. You land shots but doesn't do much. It is a horrible grind to unlock anything good and youre against people who have the game for almost a week with everything boosted or unlocked.

The pay to win (PTW) roll out with this game ruined it because people already in the game have everything they need to be super strong. And the Progression system is still based off the PTW and you really have to grind so many hrs to unlock anything. Its was designed for you to break down and buy more. Even with the microtransactions removed, even if they are permanently removed and will never reappear, the game is still too "safe", too shallow, trying too hard to pander to the lowest common denominator. Variety of characters, classes, and weapons is pathetic, with the four trooper classes having only 16 guns among them. 16! The original DOOM, which was written by two programmers on a budget a tiny fraction of this game's, had 9 guns. How do you justify such lazy design? Do not buy this game! Do not be fooled by EA temporarily removing microtransactions, this is just a last ditch attempt to boost sales. Once the game has been out for a few weeks they will put them straight back in. This a watershed moment, hold strong and vote with your wallets. Power to the people.

The game is grate, the sound, the graphics, the atmosphere are spot on Star Wars but bringing micro-transactions and transforming a AAA title into a pay to win game is disappointing. The PVE game mode has a credits cap and this makes it more like a mobile gae than a AAA title. Writing this review game me a sense of pride and accomplishment 0/Star Wars

EA wants to do it again with this game. Putting micro transactions But the biggest aberration is when you have to spend 40 hours playing to unlock a single character. This is designed so that the player is frustrated and has to pay with real money to achieve the achievements and objects of the same game. In addition, it shows that EA seeks to generate a new market around micro payments, and not in the sale of video games.

On Reddit users complained. EA answered doing good to defend his position. Then, he received the figure of half a million negative votes. That's why they said they were going to reduce the cost to unlock everything in the game. This shows that you can change the industry instead of accepting the course you take just because.

However, EA maintains the duration of 4528 hours to unlock the content of the game. This time was calculated by other fans and also calculated that playing 5 hours a day would end the game in 17 years.

As of the time of writing this, there are some fun videos floating around of someone who paid for a fully upgraded Vader playing horribly and absolutely wrecking everyone in the match. Just go watch it and then decide if this game looks fun.

Also, the disingenuous PR stunt that is removing loot crates and paid currency only to promise adding it back in later is disgusting. Go to hell EA. Dice deserves the inevitable death-by-EA that is coming to it for becoming corporate shills.

This game will forever be overshadowed by the disgusting business practices of EA which is actually pervasive to the entire gaming industry at the moment. The game leaves a sour taste, I felt dirty after playing it and I refuse to buy any loot boxes.

The campaign is actually exceptionally short, and you can't progress your classes/heroes in arcade mode, so the real crux of the game is the multiplayer which as we all know is a P2W, cash-grabbing gamble-fest. If you remember the last scene of Rogue One with Darth Vader, that is EXACTLY how MP matches play out when a player has invested heavily in loot crates. You will be annihilated. Darth Vader can get over 1k health, ten times more than any of the regular troopers and he kills them in one hit before regenerating his health.

I highly recommend to avoid this game or get a refund if you have played it and finished the campaign.

Very cod style, can be fun but stops after 2-3 gamess, which sad because you need 10 to buy a loot box. Progression system now: there was a time when you could enjoin the entire game after a reasonable play time. Now you need thousands of farm hours or dollars to get the full potential of each class. Their excuses about the lootbox incitating to play other class is bs, cause in the long term, the time needed to unlock everything rank 4 for each class is so damn high that you have to focus on only one. In the end trading the 40$ season pass/extension (like in the old battlefield days) for a mindless grind or insane amount of money was a **** deal for the player, despite EA trying to persuade us from the opposite. To finish on a good note, the environment and atmosphere are very well done and a joy to look at when you have te time to between 2 respawn. 7 for the atmosphere; -2 for **** single player; +0 for average cod style multi; -9000 for the 4000 hours to unlock everything; -1000000 for the random lootbox leveling. 0 in the end. Without this progression issue that could be an average game to pick on sale and have fun a few hours with. Tested during origin access. Glad this exist, saved me money.

What good dogfight should be. The objectives are good too. I think it has a lot more depth in this mode, compared to its predecessor. All in all, this is a great game, at its core.

The problem, is they take a solid core and then shred it with a progression system that is confusing, slow (unrewarding), and built around paid lootbox progression.

I was unhappy with the paid loot boxes going in. The game is Pay to Win. Anyone that says it's not doesn't understand the concept or are 100% fanboys. You have a very large number of "star cards" you can get. You need a certain number/level of star cards, to open your slot 2. Now, I have played through the entire single player mission, about 7 hours of multiplayer, and 4 "arcade" missions. I have unlocked level 2 cards (out of 3 levels) for 1 character. That is all. ALL of my multiplayer time has been playing the 24 man spaceship missions. I've earned probably a dozen or so loot boxes in that time. That is all. After spending 20 minutes or more in a match, you get some credits (I am getting between 100- around 350... with most games giving me a little over 200 credits) The one saving grace, is progression challenges. As they run out, your ability to really earn many credits does as well. This system, right here, is broken. It is painfully obvious you are supposed to supplement your earning of loot boxes with paid loot boxes. A $60 game should NOT be additionally monetized how freemium games are. That is double-dipping. Choose one or the other... if you use both, you are exploiting your customers. Oh, and I want to go back to progression in Arade. After playing 5 games, I was told I got 0 credits for the last game (no warning) and there was a 2 hour lockout before I could earn credits in arcade again. This is a travesty. Though, I do admit, I found arcade mode to be pretty lame. But again, they lock parts of the game out, for earning credits legitimately, to force you to purchase more. (It's painfully obvious with paid loot boxes out.

On top of the 100% broken progression system, the game just has bugs. In a game tonight, everyone was complaining about rubber banding (and I crashed numerous times, or instantly blew up for no reason). On top of this, you get disconnected randomly after a match and sit waiting for a new game that never comes... You then disconnect and rejoin to be back at the beginning of the map rotation. "

This game has a lot going for it. It is a solid shooter with a very well done Star Wars dressing on it. Then, with a few major bugs and a terribly broken progression system, the game pretty much does a face plant. This game really needs a demo to see if you can look past the broken sub-systems enough to enjoy the game. But, as it is, they don't offer one. I'd say pass on this game. If it comes down to $25, it would probably worth a buy. At $60, you are being ripped off. At the higher tier, you are really being ripped off.

    1) Any and all microtransactions do not allow benefits to the player. I would prefer no MTX but I would settle for cosmetics.

    2) Any and all progression is not locked behind a random chance looting system. How is it fair to do the same amount or work and put in the same amount of skill in a game but progress your character unevenly just because you didn't get a good loot box and someone else did? That's obscene. It would be like skyrim rewarding you random amounts of xp every time you did a quest instead of a constant known number.

Apart from the great Starfighter Assault mode Battlefront II is a mess of conflicting ideas, uneven mechanics and of course questionable monetization practices. DICE is facing long months of salvaging the game and the studio’s good name. [01/2018, p.32]

Even the tinsel of the Star Wars world cannot hide the silly story and the boring singleplayer gameplay, or the necessity to accumulate the credits in the crate hunting in multiplayer. Battlefront II pleases as a genuine shooter in the beautiful scenery, but EA should deserve a slap into the face for their mad progression system.

There's fun to be had, but for every step towards the Light Side, there's a foot stuck firmly in the Dark Side of bad design decisions. [Issue#269, p.52]
