Metacritic can try to remove all the reviews they want. The people have already spoken. EA has become even more greedy than they used to be. EA, stop focusing on the profit. Try focusing on the players for once. Until then, you will continue to be the joke of the gaming community.

it's a shame that Disney lets this happen to their IP. DICE, take a stand against your publisher.

I was very excited for this game initially however I can't support the way the industry is going with their manipulative micro transactions and loot boxes. I will not buy this game even if EA turns face and completely removes the system. I am also not going to be purchasing any EA games or products in the future.

Star Wars Gamble Front 2 looks and sounds great. However, they prey on the addictive nature of gambling by using loot boxes. Loot boxes are the only means of acquiring new items (which the items are random in nature). The game makes you grind unrealistic hours to unlock everything or you can pay for the loot boxes. While the micro-transactions are gone now, it is only temporary.

My review was removed for some reason so here is another one. I feel sorry for all the people who pre-ordered this game. EA has removed the P2W mechanics for now but it will be back! Guaranteed. Greedy!

EA doesn't care about the game play, the story, the cinematics, the balance, the consumer, the longevity of the game, or anything but making more $$$. All of those things listed are required to draw people in to make that happen and that is the only reason they exist.

    Pay to win = NOPE!

Paid content in full price games is supposed to be cosmetic only! Everyone knows this! Loot crates in general are one of the worse trends to happen to gaming in recent history. No one likes them, we just tolerated them until now.

It's easy, really. Don't expect anything good from EA, don't buy this scam, not even on a sale. just wait for Star Wars Battlefront III. If that's any good: buy it; if not: wait for SWBF IV. Or play something else.

There was a time where i would defend Dice to the hilt. This game is no exception btw, i've been playing their games since pinball dreams. The game is great visually which makes it so heartbreaking.
I've played Runes of magic for example, which is totally ptw and doesn't hide the fact and this game doesn't appear to be ptw.
It's the window though. That time where all of the pre-orders

I normally avoid handing out 0's or 10's to games I either really dislike or really like, respectively, and try to give an objective viewpoint on a given title despite my personal biases. A 0 is only reserved for games that are totally broken and unplayable, and a 10 is only reserved for a groundbreaking experience that changes the way I view gaming as a whole.

    But honestly I can't
I normally avoid handing out 0's or 10's to games I either really dislike or really like, respectively, and try to give an objective viewpoint on a given title despite my personal biases. A 0 is only reserved for games that are totally broken and unplayable, and a 10 is only reserved for a groundbreaking experience that changes the way I view gaming as a whole.

But honestly I can't force myself to rate this game any higher than a bare minimum 0. There is a decent, functional game here, don't get me wrong, but it's buried under microtransactions and digital deluxe editions that make it impossible for anyone who doesn't spend an exorbitant amount of time and/or money to get the stuff they need just to put up a decent fight. Everything EA has been doing in response, including temporarily removing the ability to buy crates with real money, all come across as nothing but kneejerk reactions to try and save face, still treating their audience as if we haven't wizened up to their insincere apologies and empty promises. But enough is enough.

I'm rating this a 0 because nobody should buy this game. I am a hardcore Star Wars fan and graphics whore who could not wait to play as clone troopers in all the HD glory they deserve, but despite everything I tried to get some kind of enjoyment out of this game, I simply couldn't do anything about the circumstances I had to deal with. I played six matches in multiplayer, all six of them were joining matches in progress, and all six of them were complete curbstomps where my team couldn't so much as make a rude face in the enemy team's direction before being blasted away by epic-tier star card abilities and instantly unlocked upgraded weapons left right and center. It was the most dreadful experience I've ever had in an online multiplayer game Since Destiny 1's Crucible and Overwatch's solo que, and that's saying quite a bit.

For your sake and for the sake of all gamers, *do not buy this game.* You are feeding a monster that only wants to suck your organs out through your gut and toss you aside once you're an empty husk.

    Campaign is mediocre at best.

Voice acting is sub-par and gameplay isn't really all that engaging. There are also a good few sections of filler where you just kill stuff in waves, or follow someone. Both of these go towards trying to extend a stupidly short campaign. It's seriously way too short. Arcade mode is meh, and the game forces you away from it if you wish to progress at all

Arcade mode is meh, and the game forces you away from it if you wish to progress at all (5 scenarios for 500cr, then a 22 hour cool down.)

Multiplayer is beyond imbalanced when you're first starting, people dominate you with higher levelled cards. You can be using the same weapon and shoot first, and still lose a gun fight.

Pair all of the above with a terrible progression system and DICE have a lot to fix.

As an addition to the above, DICE have removed the ability to purchase "Crystals" (the in game currency) temporarily. They have issued no clear statement as to how they will be fixing the game, but they have mentioned the crystals will be reintroduced at a later date (I'd give it around a month.)

I'd also take care to check whether reviews you watch on YouTube come from "EA Game Changers" who are paid by EA. You cannot take their reviews seriously as I do not believe they are impartial.

Microtransactions doesn't belong to PC gaming. Prices have already increased and we don't care if you compare gaming entertainment to something else. If I spend 50+ or more money in game, it must contain everything. Very sad that key characters aren't unlocked in the beginning.

    2) This game is fundamentally flawed when it is perceived as work by so many of its addressees, because games are ideally made for average players and not the other way round!

    3) With EAs obvious greedexcess in SWB 2 it might not be enough only to remake this game, which was eagerly awaited by its sophisticated fanbase. For this overwhelmingly bad grades in metacritic EA should really bring sacrifices as is customary in any industry to rebuild credibility in front of the community and essentially to preserve the non-material ideational value of Star Wars for all, to ensure that such harm is not repeated.

Firstly loot boxes take forever to get at around 2 hours per loot box. But they also give **** random loot, at which I keep on getting Starfighter and officer cards when all I play in my casual gameplay is assault.

Thus the extremely slow and uneven progression + the fact that BF2 do not have any Asian servers (so my lag will always be high) and combined twitch players with lower ping makes this a game of constant frustration.

As a casual the need to massive grind to get cards specifically of which I want in my limited time is really **** and stupid. Do yourself a favor and DONT BUY this game if you are a casual player

They aren't happy with a large, or even hugely successful sellout, they want ongoing revenue. So pay to win is introduced. When this invariably causes a huge backlash, due to introduced time-sink grind mechanics, forced waiting periods, and loot crates that aren't just cosmetic, they have a chance to address and fix the issues. They don't. They remove pay to win... temporarily, no real backtrack, these same mechanics will be back. The grind to unlock heroes is unreasonable. The pay to win aspects are unfair. It's a full priced game that should be free to play, but wants the worst of both worlds (high price + micro-transactions). I returned my pre-order, and counselled everyone I know to do the same until EA learns from this debacle.

It's so frustrating. This game is simultaneously a GoTY and worst GoTY at the same time... but the things that make it worst ruin the things that make it the best.

Cash Wars: Lootboxfront II or how EA killed this wonderful franchise I loved to play. The game is very simple, is being played like multiplayer map with AI bots and after single player training we must go to multiplayer to pay more cash after you've purchased Starter base f2p edition for 60$.

If micropayments will return to the game, I can not improve my analysis because I do not see any justification for making us pay later for something that I already paid. I want to play full games for only one price. I am willing to pay a little more for good games, but I do not want to buy games that force me to play for hundreds of hours to progress or pay to progress.

Full of bugs, now that the microtransactions are gone there is no way to progress in the game, shows how fundamental the lootboxes are to unlock anything. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY LIKE I DID!

Even thought the game has amazing graphics the micro transactions present in this game are 'pay-to-win' and promote gambling to children. Even though EA has temporarily removed them, they also stated they will reintroduce them later. This standard is unacceptable in the gaming industry and no one should be supporting the shady and anti-consumer practices of EA

I really wanted to like this game but it's a steaming pile of pay-to-win **** hiding as a AAA title. Everything you want to unlock is behind a massive paywall or an unholy grind. All this in a game you pay full AAA price for. This is a shameless money grab only EA has the nuts to attempt to perpetrate on its customers.

Would have gotten this awesome game but i dont really like to play so long time to unlock half of the online characters. The Beta already showed how painful its to collect half of beta content...sad to read that getting Vader requires way too much time or money to unlock it. Im not bying this game for its singleplayer so its imposible to tell how good that is.

Graphics and sound have a 10/10, but Is a pretty standart shooter in is core mechanics, but the thing that a 60USD game has microtransactions equivalent to >1000USD to unlock all the content or play like 18 hours per day IS INSANE at this moment, EA has not do much to fix any of this.

Complete waste of time any progression is loot-box based. If you want the game wait for legislation to be put in place to stop these companies from exploiting their fan base by adding pay 2 win mechanics in "AAA" games and loot-box based progression. Also this game has a T rating while Gambling requires you to be 18.

Now that the rant is over, I will actually talk about what I got to play, the beta (I do not own the game). I actually had a lot of fun in the beta, it seemed like EA had finally changed, which is why when the game fell flat on it's stupid face it hurt so much. I was just having a great time on Naboo shooting droids that I felt a genuine love/hate feeling towards, and I LOVED the space battles that they showcased.

it was about one hour into the beta where I realized the cold truth. They had the loot boxes, I was okay with it at first becasue I was thinking it would be like an Overwatch style look box having only cosmetics and everything would be A-OK, but as soon as I opened my first box I let out a deep sigh seeing that you could obtain the star cards, that gave you an advantage over another player, even then I still thought that maybe they hadn't done the unthinkable but after looking through the menus I found it, the mobile gaming screen that should a currency, an amount of currency, and a price with USD at the bottom.

At this point I gave up, I played the beta to the fullest extent because I knew it would be the last time I would ever play this game. It made me really sad that I couldn't play the game anymore, that I wouldn't be able to play the single player campaign (which I have heard is pretty mediocre anyway). It just really hurts as a consumer to be told a truth about the DLC but even then, even after they gave us a reason for hope, they decided to rip our hearts out because of a Pay to Win scheme in a $60 game. Even Disney had to step in and tell EA to temporarily take out the Pay to Win currency. It really hurts me as a huge Star Wars fan to see this happen to this storied franchise.

Oh, I've been waiting for a long time to do this.

    -- Demos! --

Remember when demos were free and not behind a PAID subscription service? I 'member! I don't even have to go that far back (even though I used to play games during Shareware era), I'm just gonna give an example from a relatively recent indie game, The Talos Principle. This game has an FREE demo and it's advised you play it before you play the main game, simply because it has its own unique story and it ties into the main game.

Now that we've seen how demos SHOULD BE, let's talk about EA's approach to demos.

They make you download the full game (50+ gigs), limit you to 10 hours, (and this is the kicker) put it behind a subscription service. 5€ to try a game for 10 hours. Now if you ask EA, they'll claim that "but you don't get to play a demo only, you get to play our entire (ancient) game library for a MONTH!" and yeah, that's a valid argument.

But what if you don't care about any of those games? I was talking to a friend (who somehow works in IT but doesn't even know the CPU in his computer) and when I told him "I just paid 5€ to play a demo", he replied back with the same argument above. I asked him if he played ANY of the games that came with Origin Access and he said no. I simply told him "then you paid 5€ to play a demo".

    He couldn't say a thing.

    -- Singleplayer Campaign--

Okay, I wrote three paragraphs about single player but due to 5000 char limit (because I need to talk about multiplayer) I have to keep this short. All I'm gonna say that it's a short, linear, half-ass attempt at making a campaign just so people wouldn't go "it doesn't even have a single player campaign". Skip.

    -- Multiplayer --

Time to address the elephant in the room. So I paid 5€ to test out this game and started playing with the same guy I mentioned above. We played a couple of galactic assault matches and I unlocked the first weapon for assault. Then we kept playing and I noticed that my assault class wasn't leveling up. I asked him about this and he told me:

By playing the class, you only unlock weapons and mods for that class. If you want to level a specific class, you need to unlock boxes and hope that you get cards for the class you actually want to play. In a 60€ game mind you, not a Free-to-Play game. 80€ if you go for the digital premium deluxe whatever it's called edition.

At this point, my mind was made. I was gonna skip this game. Then Reddit stuff happened and in a desperate move at calming people down, EA had to disable microtransactions at launch. Seeing EA back down gave me a bit of hope and I decided to give this game a chance (mistakes were made). I thought to myself "maybe because of this uproar, they'll fix this garbage progression system and be a decent company for once".

Disabling MTX on launch showed how the progression system was actually designed. It was a grindy mess (and it still is). You'd earn 200-300 credits per match and when you considered the cost of a Trooper crate, it became apparent that this game was designed to milk people who don't have time. But this isn't the most frustrating part.

So this game has three types of loot boxes. Trooper (4000 credits), Starfighter (3000) and Hero crates (2200, not 2000 because EA). The most annoying part is that these crates have a chance to drop cards from other crates. Let's say you got a Trooper crate and out of 3 cards (maybe 4 if the game feels generous that day), only one of them is Trooper related. Rest is either Starfighter or Hero cards (which has their own crates btw) or fillers like emotes and victory poses. Not to mention, there's a BIG chance of getting duplicates (which pays minute amounts of credits instead of crafting parts). That's why I started getting Hero crates only at one point but EA realized this and nerfed Hero boxes with the 2nd patch.

To level up classes you can buy loot boxes or you can spend crafting parts you earn from these boxes (or by completing grindy challenges). So every card has 4 levels. The first level requires 40 crafting parts. Second is 80, Third is 180 and 4th level costs, I kid you not, 480 crafting parts. But that's not enough for EA. No. In order to be able to craft level 4 cards, you need to level up that class to level 20. And that means you need to spend your non-existent crafting parts to cards that you're not even going to use.

All of the problems I mentioned above leads to one thing. Money farmers. Every game mode has at least one money farmer. They ruin the game especially if you're playing a 8v8 mod like Heroes vs Villians. Because of these people, the only mod i care about is dead after a month.

We're two major patches in and it is apparent that EA won't be changing this system. That's why I uninstalled the game today and wrote this review.

To be frank, the Campaign was just terrible, I mean have no intensions of replaying it, the screen resolution on 4K was not gorgeous it was choppy, and didnt look very good at all, graphics over hyped, and a lot of the features and promises made seem to have been empty like my pockets.

This is the last EA Game I will invest in for the entirety of 2017 & 2018... maybe 2019. And here is why!

    Star Wars Battlefront 2 Campaign
Extremely Short - Very Cut and Dry Mission Running with ultimately no options other than just Blast them!
Wonky Controls - Kind of glad they can be changed in Keybindings but seriously who uses G as a Activation Button?!
Bad Acting - Gameplay usually helps allievate bad acting however when the gameplay is bad, this makes it x3 worse, that I / you have to endure it longer than it needs to be.
Its not a Role of One like it seemed in the trailers, its a role of many, kind of like you get to play everyone in Star Wars you never really wanted to play, and not for comic effect either (Again Bad Acting).
Decisions, Decision, Decisisons... yea not really, again a cut and dry action campaign, there are no decisions, they are no reactions.
Like Playing a Movie... No Not really, like playing a mistake,

EA fore shame, I won't be surprised if they turn heel like Mass Effect Andromeda and drop it too...
    What a crappy experience.

my main concern is that the game is advertising gambling to kids, children along with venerable people are being preyed upon by the vultures in the industry weather it be the publishers or the investors.

This is just the beginning, soon enough we will have suicides because of gaming and in 3 to 10 years from now
if the industry keeps heading down this path we will have people with gambling addictions that started because of this new model in the gaming industry.

Weather it is cosmetics or ingame effects such as more powerful weapons there are odds & chances, you can win or lose so it is gambling.
There are even gambling sites for CS:GO skins and items and this isn't even classed as gambling yet because of the ESRB, kids are spending from £3 to well over £500 gambling all around the world.

These practices need to be looked at by governments and not ESRB or PEGI as gambling laws need to catch up to the digital era, the ESRB were started by the ESA (a trade association and lobbyist for publishers) so don't trust them to help.

Don't support this game, EA or its shady tactics, bad practices & no decent human morals.

As a game, it is great. However, all of the effort put into making it is ruined by the blatant corporate greed that has turned it into a pay-to-win game. Instead of working towards a solution to the credit earning problem, EA attempted to justify this greedy ideology. A $60 title with a Pay to Win progression model. And now, with the micro-transactions paused, progression is limited to the slow grind that was designed to open players wallets. Refunded so publishers know its not okay in a full price title.

Battlefront 2 is a lot like the first Battlefront 2 that came out over ten years ago, except with half the content, a mediocre campaign, and microtransactions lurking behind every corner. The first battlefront 2 is so many leagues better than this game that I will mostly be comparing it to its predecessor instead, Battlefront EA, which still manages to be better.

    -Campaign
The campaign takes you from cutscene to cutscene as you play as, well, a variety of characters actually. Each mission is constructed as an extremely linear arcade shooter that takes you less than half an hour to complete, and after a pitiful five hours of gameplay, the campaign is finished with one of the most uninteresting cliffhangers I've ever witnessed. Some of the characters (not really the main one) are surprisingly well developed, however the intermission as you play as "hero" characters inbetween feels completely pointless. It would be much better if they each had individual short stories instead of being intertwined with the main campaign. There's also no campaign for the Clone Wars or First Order. I believed the game would make you sympathize with the Empire, as did BF 2, but it instead somehow portrays them even worse than in the movie. The graphics are nice though.

    Multiplayer
Multiplayer is an absolute lag-fest, featuring the worst latency I've ever seen in my life for any game. This is a server-wide issue and has nothing to do with an individual's internet, meaning everyone is lagging, not just you. This makes multiplayer modes like Starfighter assault virtually unplayable. Long matchmaking times for modes like Heroes vs Villains make it feel like the game is already dying, as finding a single match usually takes upwards of 5 minutes. Hero, special trooper, and vehicle unlocks now depend on how many points you accumulate throughout the match, meaning that if you're a bad player, good luck ever getting your hands on Luke Skywalker. There can also be multiple heroes on the battlefield, and each hero is extremely underpowered compared to how they were in BF EA. You also need to unlock certain heroes with credits before you can have the privilege of playing as them. EA explained this as "a sense of accomplishment", but if anyone actually believes that, I have a bridge to sell you. The actual (and blatantly obvious reason) for this is because credits can also be used to buy loot crates, so this encourages you to spend your credits on the stupid hero unlocks, and then buy loot crates with real money, and I'm astonished people actually continue to believe EA's idiotic excuse for it. The scoreboard is generally pointless, as the top players usually fly around and shoot down AI ships while contributing nothing to the team, and someone who actually caries the team and is on point throughout the entire game gets nothing. For example, the "blowing up disrupters" objective gives you 500 points, but only if you are standing near it when it explodes. If you hold the objective for 3 whole minutes buy yourself and prevent the enemy team from taking it but you get killed the second before it explodes, you get absolutely nothing. However, if you're running around the map without helping your team and you happen to touch the point right as it gets captured, you receive all the points. Credit rewards at the end of the map aren't based on how well you did, but how long you played and how long the match lasted. The star card system also enforces the pay-to-win archetype in which whoever is willing to spend the most money gets the greatest advantage. Modes like Heroes vs Villains are less fun, and character customization has been ripped from the game. Also, getting shot through walls is a very common occurrence, maybe there will be a dlc for it.

    Arcade
You can now create custom matches to play on against ai, just like instant action in BF 2! Except it's extremely disappointing and doesn't have half of the options. Arcade in BF 2 EA is definitely better than BF EA however, but that's like saying a musty sock smells better than a pile of crap. I still managed to squeeze about 4-5 good hours out of it before I never wanted to play it again, unlike the good 100+ I got out of the good BF 2 10 years ago.

All in all, Battlefront 2 is like taking a trip back to your youth and playing with your favorite childhood toy, except this is a cheap knockoff brand that keeps prompting you to spend more money. It's not actually a 0 out of 10, I give it that score because microtransactions in multiplayer for a 60 dollar game are unacceptable. Excluding microtransactions, it's probably a close 5. It's a painfully average shooter with the star wars label tacked onto it, making that its single redeeming quality. So yes, I strongly encourage you to by Battlefront 2. The 2005 version, I mean.

EA + Disney = online poker.

Pay to win ladies and gentlemen - do not encourage this type of behavior, it is so easy to stop this, you literally have to do nothing, just don`t buy the game.

This "game" more like this platform for selling loot boxes has litteraly no reason to exist in our computers and consoles. If you want to play a slot machine, then go play a slot machine into some casino.

You can buy a meal at a Michelin 3 star restaurant but if someone sprinkles a little bit of manure over it the food becomes inedible. This is what EA has done to this game. There is a reason why the old Battlefield 3 and 4 system is so popular, it's honest and it works.

    Pros: + Graphics + Sound + Game-play + Game Modes + Performance + It's Star Wars Cons: - EA shoehorned

Graphics are great, Love the sounds of the game, characters look great.
But EA is bad. I mean do you really want to put your kids in a environment that enables gambling? If so this is your game! Don't be surprised when your son steals your credit card so he can be "as strong as everyone else"..

You are forced to choose between unlocking heroes or advancing your classes. The cost of crates are also high. The crate that contains the card you would use the most is the Trooper crate and cost 4000 credits only 1000 credits short of the cheapest heroes. You earn credits at a rate of 200-300 a match. When you first start the rate of credits seems fine because of challenges, but they will run dry long before you can afford to unlock everything. That combined with the random nature of the unlock system means you can be suck without being able to upgrade the class you want for quite a long time. These unlocks matter because they represent real power increases because they improve cool downs and damage on abilities. The system feels like a F2P BTW system and has no place in a game that costs money just to play. Expand

I am truly disgusted by EA. All they had to do was make a good game, instead they milked the brand for money and showed zero respect for the brand and what came before. EA is the perfect example of what is destroying the games industry. Shame!

Apart from the great Starfighter Assault mode Battlefront II is a mess of conflicting ideas, uneven mechanics and of course questionable monetization practices. DICE is facing long months of salvaging the game and the studio’s good name. [01/2018, p.32]

Even the tinsel of the Star Wars world cannot hide the silly story and the boring singleplayer gameplay, or the necessity to accumulate the credits in the crate hunting in multiplayer. Battlefront II pleases as a genuine shooter in the beautiful scenery, but EA should deserve a slap into the face for their mad progression system.

There's fun to be had, but for every step towards the Light Side, there's a foot stuck firmly in the Dark Side of bad design decisions. [Issue#269, p.52]
