    Microtransactions.
This alone made many players left.
Time to go back to Payday the heist, at least there's no microtransactions for now!

I recommend not buying anything from OVK.

Game ruined by overkills. Has overwhelming overpriced DLCs and they add trading so it is extremely bad. Boycott payday 2 and overkill games!

    Say no to microtransactions!

Lied to their community by promising to never include microtransactions, and also by introducing said microtransactions under the pretense of it being a "free reward" for the community to enjoy. On top of that, said microtransactions give straight-up stat boosts.

It is a shame to see a company slowly get greedier and greedier. Once standing up for players, listening to complaints and opposing microtransactions, have now added microtransactions that are both pay to win, and random drops a la Counter Strike: Global Offensive. CS: GO was a relatively cheap game, and the weapon skins they gave were merely cosmetic. Payday 2, however, has its crates (called safes) drop within another random loot drop system that occurs after beating a mission (Heist.). So now you must hope to randomly get a safe after a heist, buy a key (Drill), and hope you get a random skin with a random stat boost for a random weapon you may or may not have! If you do not want the safe, too bad! You got a random reward you cannot do anything with but take up inventory space, or sell online to people addicted to optimization/gambling! These economies, even when acceptable, always feel like they exploit people with gambling addictions, and on the most case they do. The people who habitually pay for microtransactions in order to speed the game along, gamble, or "get the best loot" are called cash cows, and are exploited often, and it sickens me to see companies take advantage of people, even if it is optional. I cannot recommend this fun game until it reconsiders its practices. Expand

Due to the fact that OVERKILL is blatantly resorting to pay to win mechanics by releasing top tier weapons behind pay walls, I would highly recommend not getting this game unless you can afford the full experience. Along with buying DLC that comes out very frequently with weapons that render other weapons that you have already, pointless.

All of the weapons are now in similar classes, based on how much ammunition they have (which obviously makes the weapons with a lot of ammunition utterly useless, and weapons with low ammunition overpowered. Microtransactions, something they promised would never be in the game is now the star around which it orbits. Why buy a game that would go back on such a promise, it would be like buying food at a restaurant with at the table that you have to pay for separately to use on the food.

I have almost 700 hours in this game. I truly love it. Overkill have now ruined this game with micro-transactions. It is terribly sad, and I honestly hope it gets fixed with an apology and a refund for all of those duped into buying anything in this update. Terrible mistake in an otherwise great game.

Im actually sad to give such a great game a low score. Before the crimefest update we had an average peak of players at around 14,000, no that the game is free for a week we have around 20,000 people at peak and im all for introducing new players, but manipulating these players should not be acceptable, for example the new safe that came out on the first day of crimefest (pretty much csgo cases) are one of overkill's strategies to try and gain money through microtransactions if a new player opens they have a chance to get a skin that is part of a dlc, which then they have to buy that dlc to use the skin. Us veteran and long time players are getting more concerned that this is the end of the road, i have seen multiple people uninstalling the game as they will not support a comany that is lying and twisting there words, yep thats right they said all of the content during crimefest is "FREE" yet they twist their words and give us free content but the access to the content is locked unless you pay a small fees of $2.49 to gain access to this content which should be "free", the latest event has completely ruined the game, i am seeing less and less of my friends that use to play payday in-game, this is the downfall of Payday and will also cause their further games to be unsuccessful, we are still yet to get a full statement of why they released microtransactions when they promised not to. Overkill i actually hope this is not the end to be honest, but you have made a lot of bad business decisions that we have forgiven you for but this is the last straw, i will probably still play the game as it is one of a kind, but you really need to find your footing and start being more serious about your fanbase because last time i checked one of the main rules of game development is never treat your fanbase as a money printing press. They promised, before the game's release, that they would never do such a thing. Yet here we are, two years later, and the person who made that same promise has broken it. They also promised another 2 years of support, until 2017. How can we trust Overkill to deliver on this after what they've done in such a short amount of time?

They've irreparably fractured the community and they will never fully recover from this.

Since the last update from the 15th October 2015, the game now contains paid skins (you can't loot) which give an unfair advantage. These microtransactions wouldn't be a problem if: A. You didn't already have to pay for the game. B. The transactions are technically buffs to existing weapons C. They didn't break a promise they made

I'm saddened by the current state of events. Expand

I hate that an awesome soundtrack was ruined by being associated with this train wreck of a game.

This game could've been something fantastic. It's truly an interesting concept in cooperative shooters. But everywhere you look in this game, it just reeks of lazy design, lazy programmers, and not nearly enough time spent on QA.

I give it points for being a poorly executed great idea. And I also give it points for having a soundtrack that deserved to be in a better game than this.

Some would say Payday 2 feels like a massive improvement to its predecessor Payday: The Heist.

    I, however, disagree.

The game graphically is horrifyingly plain; environments lack detail and often have awful textures which for whatever reason were not present in the beta. This makes no sense whatsoever. As if to add insult to injury: the game runs on an ageing engine which pales in comparison to other games released this year.

Secondly, the AI is abysmal: in the single player you start with two teammates (not three, strangely) with their only real purpose is to shoot the never ending onslaught on Washington's police force. These AI teammates cannot help you with objectives; can't pick up bags and can't even smash store windows to help you so be prepared to do EVERYTHING yourself. The police AI also pales as well, their basic tactics consist of charging your position all the time tossing smoke bombs and occasionally tear gas as they run into you not being conscientious of their surrounding cover.

Thirdly; Crime.net is an absolute p***take. In both the online mode and offline mode you have to sit looking at a Google Earth-esqe map of Washington for the minimum of two minutes waiting for the mission that you want to pop up. The most annoying part of this is each mission that pops up has its own set difficulty: so you have to wait for both the mission you want to pop up AND the difficulty you want to pop up. This infuriates me so much. On the side you can select your mission directly, skipping the waiting time for it to pop up; but you have to spend your goddamn in-game money to buy a contract to go stealing money to make a profit again? WHAT.

Fourth is the overall state of the game itself; the game itself shipped with about FIVE missions originally. The same amount as in the beta I might add. This is a serious lack of content and Overkill have already planned DLC? Fix the bugs first! The levels themselves are not as dynamic as Overkill makes them sound either; there are subtle differences between each time you play the mission but nothing you'll really appreciate as you constantly blast away the police force and constantly repair the goddamn drills that the so-called 'master criminals' have. This seriously makes me question why you can't upgrade your drill unless you do the Technician skill tree? Sigh.

If you can manage to get into a game with your friends however (there's quite a few connection issues going around; then the game can provide a minor modicum on amusement as your team can actually help you grind through the ranks. The music is pretty good when the assaults start and gets you ready for the next wave of enemies; shame there's barely enough time to do anything productive in between these waves.

Also, they took out the Cloaker from the original; which is a shame as I enjoyed the mild thrill of trying to shoot the Sam-Fisher like ninja policeman.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is complete bloody If you played the beta you have no reason to buy this game you have played the complete game basically minus 10 player experience levels and in whichever class you choose and 3 or 4 guns pretty much (that are honestly lacking and where is the lmg's?). 17 Heists/Jobs (30 Stages/Missions) 6 (random) Escape Heists is what they promised, what was actually given was like 10 or 12 tops. Worthless considering every heist is about 1/3 in size or complexity in comparison to any heist on PD1 not to mention the copy/paste effort that each heist is. When i say there is 10 to 12 heists half of those are also the EXACT SAME. Bank cash, deposit and gold are 3 different heists regardless of them being literally the exact same missions with a different bag item and jewellery store and the Ukrainian job are also basically the same. Oh and they also count a difficulty as a whole new set of heists to bump up their abysmally small list. Also the dynamic environment is pretty much the same every time you play minus one less or more guard/security camera in a slightly different spot. Expand

Usually doing that in games is boring and/or frustrating as all get out, but PAYDAY 2 found a way to make it work, and work REALLY well.

So what happened to get this negative review? Long story short: the updates. People began to note that with each passing DLC there was a sort of power creep going on. A pay to win system. Now the latest update promises weapon rebalances to fix this issue as part of this massive community event where we completed challenges for free rewards. What happened instead? Weapons were further nerfed and a microtransaction model was implemented. Get a safe at random and then pay a fee of real world money to get a drill to unlock the safe to get a random skin. Sounds familiar? CSGO and TF2 did the same thing with their key system. Only difference here is that the skins enhance your stats.

So what did this update the community have to work for and were promised a free reward turn out to be? Your guns are rendered useless and the only way to buff them back to where they were before, which means still a power creep and paid DLC guns are still superior, is to spend even more money to have a CHANCE at fixing your loadout. That's BS. What is also BS is that prior to release the company stated in an interview when asked if PAYDAY 2 will have microtransactions, "No. No. God, I hope not. Never. No." But wait, that came from someone who left the company! I hear you, I understand. Here's a link to a statement from Almir Listo, who is still at Overkill and working as the unofficial PR guy because Overkill won't hire a real one for some reason. http://i.imgur.com/wQCwAyd.png This update has turned them into liars.

"Wait wait wait," I hear you saying. "Not all the guns were nerfed. Some of them were buffed." Indeed, buffed to ridiculous extremes. For example, pistols are now doing three times the damage shotguns are. This is its own problem. As stated earlier, there was a powercreep going on. It has gotten so much worse now, with specific items at least. The balance has been thrown out the window. So how do you catch up your nerfed weapons to be back where to were, much less on par with the other weapons that were buffed to high hell? Skins! Pay up and MAYBE you'll see your gun marginally improve.

Nerfing weapons to hell and putting buffs to them behind a gambling paywall is wrong.

Buffing weapons to the point that the game is completely unbalanced and Bulldozers, this game's version of COD MW's Juggernauts, are able to be killed in 3-5 headshots and the effect where their mask flies off from the damage taken simply doesn't work anymore is also a game killer. You don't really have a game anymore. Just something to throw money at.

Was this game great at one time? Absolutely.
Is it worth your money now? Heck no. Stay away. You'll just end up having to spend even more of it anyways.

Where Payday 1 focused solely on action and teamwork, Payday 2 simply has identity issues. It tries to be a stealth game, an rpg, a web series and a horde shooter and ends up doing everything poorly. Most of the levels are short unlike Payday 1, and the game becomes a grindfest in which you focus on doing short easy missions over and over to grind xp.

"Should the enemy strengthen his van, he will weaken his rear; should he strengthen his rear, he will weaken his van; should he strengthen his left, he will weaken his right; should he strengthen his right, he will weaken his left. If he sends reinforcements everywhere, he will everywhere be weak. - Sun Tzu"

In overkill's case, they diverted so many resources into making the game appeal to so many audiences that they lost sight of what Payday Originally was. An action based coop horde shooter.

They replaced real skill and real teamwork with artificial skill trees which "enhance" your characters abilities. But all this does is make your character overpowered and gives you unfair advantages. I often found myself either spamming grenades from my grenade launcher or breaking my mouse button by clicking it as fast as I could non stop. Unlike the previous game which featured a variety of weapons which all had different tactical uses, which you could freely switch between from mission to mission, many weapons in this game are bound to which class you pick, for example only the enforcer can use shotguns effectively. Many of the useful weapons are hidden behind paywalls aswell. My experience with Payday 2 literally (and I'm not joking) broke my previous mouse and I had to replace it because the mouse button got spammed that much, I was using the B9 pistol.

The most unforgivable aspect of the game. Is how Overkill staff stated on multiple occasions, both in forum posts and interviews that Payday 2 would NEVER feature microtransactions. But in the recent update Overkill is charging money for weapons with higher stats on the Steam market. And not only that they trick you by not telling you you need dlc in order to use them.

PayDay 2 is one of the nicest surprises of the year. Overkill Software understands the atmosphere of gangster movies and wisely improves these pieces of gameplay, that might have been disappointing in the first game. The sequel is better in almost every way - you can play a thief and enjoy good character development and shooting systems. I really hope, that PayDay 3 will be even better.
