back in 2013/2014 this game still has been a great thing in the gaming world. Now it is a pure waste of cash since with over 20DLCs which are also together even more expensive than anything made by EA there are Microtransactions! That's right fellow reader! A game what is practically almost 60 dollars or MORE worth now also have this lovely feature added. Oh golly!

    Pay2Day: Globally Offensive

Payday developers Overkill has utterly messed up beyond recognition in this update. It's a shame really, as their game was one of the most unique games I had played before this update.

They just had to add micro-transactions even from all the DLC they added to this game. If you're planning to play this game for the long run be ready to spend 130+ dollars.

I played Payday 2 for over 200 hours, and have purchased 13 out of the TWENTY EIGHT paid dlcs. There has to be a point where we draw a line. I am so fed up with this whole situation that I have uninstalled the game. If you want to purchase the game, please think twice.

The developpers are blatantly dishonest and piss on their fanbase over and over. Game was fun 2 years ago, avoid this title now. They promise everything and not only don't deliver but they had the gall to introduce microtransactions. On a 30$ game with 120$ worth of DLC.

Payday 2 was a promising but undercooked game upon release that has been slowly poisoned by downloadable content and the addition of microtransactions. Sweeping gameplay changes often upset the game's balance and community. The weapon handling and setting of the game provided many hours of entertainment, but unfortunately that game doesn't exist any more. I wouldn't recommend this to new players.

I've got 400hrs on this game and own all current DLC, but as of today, this game is no more. This game is nothing but a fond memory that I will forever miss, but I know that it's not the same anymore.

Best example of where greed killed a quite good game. I used to love this game, but ever since they started throwing out half a**ed DLC I've been sceptical towards their doing. Welcome to Greedfest!

So the microtransactions are here to stay, even though Overkill previously stated that Payday 2 would have no microtransactions (and shame on us for thinking it would!). In addition to this lack of understanding between the developers and the community, some members of the development team are being outrageously rude towards paying customers.

This conversation also brings up the question of what Overkill are actually doing right now? Almir Listo has stated that they added microtransactions because they made their team larger to help develop their game on other platforms. And at the same time, nothing has done to fix the game on consoles. Instead, the developers believe that people who are upset that their product isn't working should just buy it again. Because Overkill reeeaaalllyyy needs more money after developing a game that ended up being profitable before pre-ordering was over. Oh, and they've made $110 worth of DLC content for people to spend money on as well.

There is also the matter of Starbreeze's 2015 Financial Report. In this document, the following is stated; "Starbreeze fourth quarter will be added to the successful history of the company with net sales reaching 72.0 MSEK, an increase by 41 per cent year on year. Total revenues reached its highest point since the launch of PAYDAY 2 growing with 72 per cent Year on Year. Our best selling franchise, PAYDAY 2, grew at all time high 53% reaching 71.1 MSEK." So basically when their investors ask Starbreeze and Overkill how their stocks are doing, the companies can respond by saying that their game is now making record-breaking profits. Then when they community asks them to remove microtransactions and keep their word, Overkill tells us thatthey just aren't making enough money yet.

So screw you Overkill. You should see that you've made some pretty awful decisions, and hopefully you can bring all of this terrible PR to a close by keeping to your word a little more.

Thought I would add this just to show that Overkill added microtransactions whole being completely aware that they had previously said there would be no microtransactions in the game. Here's a quote from a reddit AMA by Almir Listo. When asked why they decided to add microtransactions after their earlier statements about it, he responds with "Of course we knew what we had said [about microtransactions], but we never thought it'd be taken as negatively as it did." Here's an Amir to English translation: "Yeah we said that, but f**k you. It's gonna make us more money!

A couple years on and it's interesting to see the game developers have not learned a single thing (and a number of the serious problems are still here).

With regards to business however, they've hit the gold mine, they learned a lot in the methods and tactics of swindling and lying to people.

Payday 2 managed to win browny points primarily for its concept (heists) which as yet had not been often explored in the videogame market. Through the years small teams of dedicated players, modders and hackers have helped to fix the game when Overkill were too stubborn or too stupid to make simple fixes or balance the game properly. The developers have struggled long and hard to puzzle and irritate their own community to death. Whilst always looking to keep a '1 step forward 2 step backwards' philosophy in mind with regards to systematically creating the biggest mess of backwards design the gaming community will likely ever witness.

Finally, they have seen fit to end it all, and have stomped on the head of their dog repeatedly until, yelping in agony, it has sputtered its final death rattle.

Well done Overkill, here lies your legacy, Pay2Day: The Hustle.

Payday 2 is unfortunately now a wasteland of poor developer decisions. The game is now microtransaction-focused on top of purchasing the base game and the dozens of DLC packs. OVERKILL has no idea what they're doing, and they're running the game into the ground for money as they blindly stumble around trying to guess what players want instead of asking them.

PC players of the game are facing poor support from Overkill who refuse to acknowledge to "17 Heists, 30 Stages" promise, safehouse customization, and more. Instead, the developer would rather make certain officers even more difficult to kill and release an update that broke multiplayer.

In addition to these technical flaws, Overkill still has not made a singeplayer mode that is playable. In fact, a recent update made it even more difficult than it already was. Instead of a full team of four, you get two AIs. In addition to the smaller team, the AI cannot pick up loot bags (which the police can), open safes, steal generic loot, place bags, or use any semblance of intelligence to assist you. This state of "offline mode" is completely criminal, especially since the Multiplayer seems to be broken on a regular basis.

Even after all of that, the game still manages to entertain some vague aspects of cooperative play. You can coordinate with you team, capture hostages, and actually orchestrate the heist.

However, in the games current state and Overkill's attitude towards development, it will be an accomplishment if they can finish the game and fulfill the promises they made to their fans- even more so if the game can be stabilized.

If I am going to buy a game, I want an upfront cost for quality content. The fact that the game developers think that they can rip me off by giving me tiny morsels of content that i can only unlock by paying $2.50, which can accumulate into much more, is unacceptable. If I buy a game, I expect to get the whole game, not just an opportunity to pay more money. Shame on the developers for taking this path of greed and dishonesty. If they would simply add "drills" as random reward drops then I would have no problem, but at the moment they are a ripoff. I strongly advise against purchasing this game or any of it's DLCs. At the moment it is nothing but a scam. Expand

But now, the developpers added micro-transactions (because why not...) despite repetively stating in the past they would never do so. So, I am done with this game. It was already too expensive (due to regular DLC releases) to my taste for the enjoyment I had and now, it is simply too much. I shall move on.

Do I receommend this game? Not anymore. It can still be fun in its own right but for it to stay that way, you need a bunch of DLCs and the total cost exceed the value of the game. There are a lot of better games for cheaper / similar prices.

So back in 2013 Almir said no to microtransactions..until now. With 28 DLCs and I own them all and over 1800 hours playing I know what the game is and it always has bugs of some sort. DLC are one thing- you sort of know what you are getting, but in a safe - you have a CHANCE at 7-9 items..which you have no idea what which one...you might own them already. Will they make trading the safes at some time? Idnk, but probably not since it does not help Overkill When they update the game - the Modders of Hoxhud or Pocohud have to change their things to make the game 110% more enjoyable. Without them the game is sort of lame....they should have been incorporated a long time ago. Guards can walk through walls, fall through the floor to the next, jump up to the 2nd or 3rd floor ----Wow what power they have - that we do not. Some of the units you fight that do not have armor, but are basically harder to kill than most things- Cloakers and Tasers take way too much damage before going down...even head-shots do not kill them with 2 shots with a normal gun...that would in any other game. Sheilds can move and make you climb on top of their shields....which is really crazy when you see it. Bulldozers -3 different types have been introduced over the last couple years (Green, Black and Skull)...are the beasts to kill...Face plate shooting is paramount in quick kill. Different weapons are always introduced in the 28 DLCs that cost $4.99ea..so yeah, over $139 if paid retail for them. Wait until sale is on though...70% off.
Co-op players are varied- you can buy the weapon packs and DLCs and get the better guns, but now they added the Pay to buy the drill to open a safe drop - $2.50 each. So now they want more money...on a game that is about to be out of date. They have 1980's computers still on desks, signage from 2013 or 2014 still on the game. Not great graphics at all...only 6 basic car models throughout the game. except on Car Shop..that you can only drive in one heist..and they are not good. Basically the same 14 type people with same old clothes in every heist...doing the same boring things. Once you have the patterns down and the guards patterns - the game is easy - on DW stealth that is.
Many things could make the game better, but in Summer 2016- Payday 3 is supposed to be out...so I do not see much more coming to PD2.

Payday 2: over-hyped repetitive grind-fest, or a remarkable fun and enjoyable game? Read on..

Payday 2 has turned out to be a tremendously successful game. Pre-orders were almost sold-out everywhere while post-sales hit the roof, turning it into a instant commercial success for the small studio. Beta feedback has been positive on some fronts, and post-launch reviews have given the game a high-rating from some of the mainstream critics.

However it seems Payday 2 is now suffering post-launch blues, and has fallen into that developer trap. More on that later.

One of the reasons why Payday 2 has been so successful on launch is that it is, indeed, a really fun co-op game. There is no denying it. From that adrenaline rush you get pulling a bank job to the joy of managing to do just one job on full stealth. Payday 2 is surely best played with friends for maximum enjoyment, and isn't the sort of game you want to play with just random players.

So, why am I rating it a measly 6, then? Well, here's the thing; Payday 2 is a satisfying game on launch, and even after a day or so it still remains a satisfying game, but after the 3rd day you start to notice the faults with the game that creep out at you. It's this very reason why the game has been so successful with critics, and I would imagine they would review it a little differently further down the road.

To say the game suffers from repetitive play is an understatement. You soon realize that the pace of the game is slightly off whack. It turns into a massive grind-fest due to everything costing money. Fancy that red-dot sight you got in the lootbag dlc? Well, it costs in-game money to attach it to your gun! How about mask customization? Well, that costs in-game money as well. Leveling up? In-game money. Practically anything you do with your characters involves money.

Now, this wouldn't be so bad if the payouts were a little more balanced, but unfortunately the games current system forces you to grind repetitive missions with little room for change, making even grinding a bore fest.

Now, lets talk about that dev trap I mentioned earlier. I've seen this in other games, so I'll sum it up. A developer designs a game. It has a good concept, good working mechanics (crime.net, class/skills), a wide range of variety in assets (guns/mods) along with excellent customization (masks/guns) and the core concept relies heavily on repeated plays of maps. However, the developer only designs a few playable maps (7 or 10 I believe minus the safe-house). These maps are relatively small, with the so-called 'huge dynamic changes' as marketed being rather small and not worthy of note. Since the core concept of the game itself relies heavily on the maps themselves, the game becomes a tedious repetitive experience once you repeat the maps.

At this stage some things become apparent; there is only one bank map. There is only one map featuring stores. There is only one map featuring a jewelry heist. There is only one map of each specific genre of heist. Granted, there is supposed to be 30+ heists in the game, but they all take place on the same maps. It turns into a *steal X item profit* on the same maps, over and over again, with little changes that don't add anything to the game. A vault may be somewhere different. There may be 3 guards around the back instead of 2. All these changes are indeed welcome, but marketing it as huge changes isn't appropriate.

Playing the same maps over, and over, and over again, wouldn't be so bad if the actual heist mechanics were done right. Unfortunately, that's another area that they didn't design so well. Drills take a large amount of time, so much so that you just end up not drilling after awhile, it becomes a case of "I just can't be bothered to wait 3-4 minutes for this bloody thing", not even taking into account of how many times it breaks down. Repeat this process several times and even the most harden players will start getting bored.

Payday 2 does do some things right. Crime.net example is a good mechanic, while it suffers from shoving repeated heists down your throat, the idea itself is good and would work really well with more variety of maps/heists. The safehouse seems like a stale introduction, but it seems like Overkill has some plans for this later on, possibly in the form of some dlc.

However, unless Overkill is planning on introducing rather large map-packs in his DLC plans, I can't see Payday 2 playable longevity lasting long. Only after 3 days of playing I can tell you its become tiresome to play some of the same maps again, with the dreadful repeated soundtrack.

Payday 2 could have been so much better, but unless your a hardcore grindfest kinda player, you will soon grow tiresome of this rather enjoyable but flawed co-op.

    Summary:

    Graphics 6/10
    Soundtrack 4/10

The AI is laughably incompetent and will literally only shoot at cops when you are under siege. They will not carry bags, steal money, take hostages, etc etc etc. So playing the game solo is basically impossible, except on the easiest of levels or with the most advanced equipment.
As for randoms, you will occasionally get a decent game, but the vast majority of players never seem to use voice or text chat. The only communication tool the game provides is a single all-purpose button, no voice call-out menu or anything like that. Matchmaking missions tend to devolve into 4 people doing their own thing in the same map, kind of like Monaco but much, much less fun.

There are other problems: progression is trickle-fed like a heroin drip, with the almost never avoided pitfall of leaving new players with almost nothing. The starter rifle and pistol are wildly inaccurate, and the game mechanics make it ridiculously difficult to pull off a heist without alerting the police while at low level. I appreciate a satisfying skill tree and item progression, but restricting new players into only playing the game one way is not the correct way to do it. So far my time with the game has resembled Left 4 Dead more than Monaco, Hitman or Thief.

The biggest technical issue is the insane hard drive bloat. The game originally required less than 10gb of space. With the latest DLC, it now takes up just under 25gb. That is bigger than GTAIV, RAGE or RO2. This is completely ridiculous, and could well make the game unplayable for someone who bought it thinking the officially listed requirement of 10gb was accurate.

The developer for this game broke promises they made early on regarding their business model, specifically that microtransactions within the game (for items, weapons, unlockers, et cetera) would never be a part of the game. The Crimefest update goes against the original promise and what the community values and appreciates the game to be.

    @Overkill,

In the coming days you will receive a lot of hate from your community. And that is completely understandable since you muddied our game with your pay-2-win ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. See, I personally don't care about microtransactions in a game. It adds a new way for developers to earn the money they need to continue developing the game that I play. But the microtransactions can't be allowed to offer any mechanical differences or you will get a game that is pay-2-win. Even if the changes are completely negligible, this will still start you on a road where eventually they won't be negligible anymore.

A lot of people are probably wondering why you would even do this, it's not like it's that hard to foresee how this would go. Unfortunately, the truth probably is that you did foresee this would happen, and you simply just don't care. And why would you? What do you have to lose at this point time? Most of us have already paid for the game and all the DLCs, and it's not like we're going to buy them twice. So you've realized that you have milked most of us for all that you can, and now it's time to add microtransactions so you can milk the rest of your fanbase for whatever is left before you put down this old cow and start cultivating your next cow.

But what you probably can't see is that someone has to feed your cows, and that is us. But now everyone effing hates your guts. So from now on all your cows will be sick, because we will only feed them with poisoned food. And that's your fault! You ruined this community, and now you have to live with it. You might get more milk, but the taste it leaves in your mouths will be stale and sour. Because every time you go to milk your cow you will see all these hateful posts and that will really hurt your feelings. I know it will, because I'm a developer too. And I know how much it hurts when people criticize your work, and I can only imagine how much it must hurt when people show outright hate towards you and your game.

I really hope you take this to heart and decide to try and heal this community. You probably won't ever be able to completely heal the wounds you caused, but you might still be able to make sure it scars nicely. Please don't hang us out to bleed, or you will completely kill this community and your fanbase.

Until you fix this I will of course leave a negative review and advise everyone to stay the hell away from your toxic business. But I hope to be able to change this to a positive review again some time in the near future, because this game was truly great, and one of my absolute favorite games.

TL;DR: The developers has introduced a Pay-2-Win system into this otherwise (former) great game (something they promised multiple times would NEVER EVER happen), and will probably soon abandon it completely in favor of their next cow to be milked. For now I'd advise everyone to stay the hell away from this game, and stay the hell away from Overkill and Starbreeze Studios, because they evidently don't care about their community and if you support people like that you will only be disappointed.

As a long time Payday fan, starting with the original, Payday: The Heist, I've enacted my fantasy of bank robbing, armored escort stealing, meth cooking, and even as of recent the breakout of one of my favorite voice actors as Hoxton, over and over again. It never gets dull, as the sheer amount of content being added keeps a repetitive task as farming from being monotonous and boring.

Payday 2 features many good points as well as some bad, as comes with all games. However, which each new update, all of the bad things, bugs, glitches, etc. get pushed out, at a rate that is nearly consistent. With the recent welcome approach to mods like HoxHud and PocoHud, almost any and all negatives are virtually gone.

I recommend Payday 2 to anyone who wants to enact the fantasies of the Wild West, whether it be robbing banks or extorting store clerks for money, Payday 2 is for you.

I'm rating this game without having played the first. If you are a TL;DR person and asking me if I would recommend you the game, I can give you this answer:

I do recommend the game to you, if you happen to be a person who enjoys cooperative multiplayer games online. If you are a player preferring singleplayer games, I cannot recommend you this title. Read below why:

Visuals 9 out of 10 The game looks smooth and the filters it uses can be turned off. Textures are clear and ingame objects look very convincing. The game definitely is a beauty.

Sounds, Soundtrack and Voices 9 out of 10 The voice actors are authentic and fun to listen to. The weapons sound convincing and the electronic soundtrack emphasizes the actions taken by the player. Is the player not discovered yet, so will the music reflect that by playing slow beats and opposed to that the music is fast and upbeat when the police storms into the bank. It even builds up to those moments. For some the soundtrack might be too repetitive, though, as there are relatively few tracks that will be repeated every other mission you play.

Gameplay 7 out of 10 First of all, it's important to note here that Payday 2 is a multiplayer game. It features a singleplayer variation, but make no mistake. The single player mode is barely functional as the cooperative AI for your 3 teampartners is too rudimentary. It's virtually unplayable. Payday 2 is played best with 3 friends of yours that you can rely on. If you don't know other players you will have to bite the bullet and play with random other players. My personal experience here has been very mixed, from egomaniacs who kicked other players for no good reason (such as a low level or wrong equipment chosen) to charitable and friendly players who coordinated via chat and went through the several missions of the game smooth and in short timeframes.

Whether you will meet the former or latter kind of player will depend on your own luck. That aside, the gunplay of the game feels smooth, different weapons and upgrades give enough variety to personalize and choose from and the four different skilltrees are well balanced and diversify characters nicely. With the right people you will definitely have a great time.

One characteristic of this game that might put you off should be mentioned The game features about 30 different missions or even more, however it uses a fraction of that amount as maps for these. This means that in various missions you will be put into the same level with items, entry points, saves and lockers, barricades, player and enemy spawns and other such points of interests shuffled around. While that does change how every mission plays out, some seem to feel that it leads to a lack of diversion and replayability. How you judge that is up to you.

Last but not least, a comment on the difficulty. The game has 4 different difficulties and a "Pro" modifier for each mission. Normal, hard, very hard and overkill. Picking one of these changes the enemy spawns as well as the rewards. Normal spawns ordinary cops and few armored units. Overkill spawns more, tougher and better armed enemies who will soak your ammo clips up like sponges the water. Additionally, you will also face enemies with special traits in the higher difficulty levels, such as "bulldozers" that literally take hundreds of bullets to kill and other such friendly surprises. The difficulty levels in-between feature upgraded cops and fewer of these special enemies. Finally, the pro mode. If you choose to play a pro mission, you will only have one try for all the levels of the mission. If you fail the mission at any point, your mission and its progress will be terminated.

Technical quality 6.5 out of 10 There are few bugs in the game, but when they happen they can be annoying. After playing a while it might happen that you lose connection to a host and your game will crash few minutes afterwards. I've had it happen to me only once after a long 5-hour gaming session, but it should be noted anyway.

Also the shadow maps of the levels seem pose a problem, as they are in a 4096 resolution that cannot be turned down in the options menu. If you don't have a top notch PC, you will need to mod the game in order to fix that and play with acceptable frames. It's possible, but it requires some extra work on your part.

Overall a very satisfying game with minor issues that can detract from the fun.

This game is a boredom killer. You have friends but you have nothing to do? Play Payday 2. The flaws in this game can be easily ignored.

In short, if you don't wanna rob a bank, play this. It's legal and playable.

This game is quite literally "ok", not great, not crap. First the good points: The varying placement of items and such around the level is a nice touch, the jobs that pop in and out of existence, the online with 4 other users is nice because of the speed the job can be achieved with as well a substantial rewards. However this game leaves a lot to be desired of it. Offline isn't even worth playing, the AI are beyond awful, apart from shooting they cannot pick up bags and help nor can the be sly once the heist is started. They won't do anything but stick to a 1 metre radius from you which means they will not hold an area unless you are at the centre which makes going back and forth to pick up each bag (because they won't do it) even harder than it needs to be. Then the reward is tiny in comparison to online. Not only that but the reward is split into an "overseas account" (which essentially you cannot touch ever as far as I can tell, I may be wrong) and a pocket money style account which is about 5% of the overall amount earned from the heists. This means it is utterly useless if you want to upgrade your weapons, it took me over 5 hrs of gameplay offline to collect enough for a silencer, which leads me to the next downfall, the add-ons are given to you at random, well I say given, unlocked and then sold at random, I'm yet to be able to customise masks and yet people who are just starting have fully customised ones because they were lucky enough to get a random mask upgrade which was the actual mask (which is very rare in my experience). However none of these are worth avoiding the game for, these are my reasons for avoiding it. Customisation of your "safehouse" is mentioned right at the beginning of the game, you would be able to use the money you have earned to customise. However this is not actually a feature and thus the money stored away is utterly pointless. I have $18million (that's not much if you play online) stashed away but I cannot use it for anything (including buying equipment). This is because this feature was given as a pre-order bonus... it baffles me to think, that was the reward for buying a game. Developers are getting lazier and greedier. Finally the thing that rubbed me up the wrong way and makes the rating so low is that this game would be a 10 (if patches for small details are to arrive) in my book, this game is perfect as a multiplayer game to play with your friends, get the lads round for beers and a gaming session... put the disc in "oh this looks cool" "so there are 4 characters, do we get to choose which ones we want?" OH WAIT! NO SPLITSCREEN!!! This game would be the game of the year for me if it had splitscreen, I'd even forgive just 2 player splitscreen but a 1 player game with 4 main characters is beyond stupid. Online fails to give the same rush of you and your mates shouting at each other in the same room, "You need to blow that safe" "I'm down" "Grab that jewelry!" (This doesn't work if you need to explain over the headset where it is). I know this is done to sell more but I can tell you in my friends group out of 4 (not including me) wanting to get the game, only 1 decided to buy it, do you want to know why? because they wanted a game that meant they could invite their mates round and play, like fifa, COD, Minecraft and many others. Playing over the internet is just not as fun not to mention if you're internet is a little temperamental it becomes a burden. This game is more of a DLC for a full game. it basically is a few set missions that needs you to play online to remotely enjoy it and doesn't allow you to play with mates. This game makes my head hurt, it's the perfect 4-way splitscreen game for you and friends except that it's not possible to do what this game was designed for. So it if you don't mind not being with your friends then yeah it's an average wave of police that you shoot!
I wanted this game to be amazing but it just falls far too short of a completed game. Hopefully splitscreen will start to reappear in games.
Why are TVs getting bigger yet 10 yrs ago you could get 4 players on one tine 15" and now you can only get 1 on a 50"? What is wrong with you developers, you'd sell more making it fun than forcing people into it... Please understand this game feels rushed but the mechanics are interesting but not complete. It just has so many let downs in my opinion. The idea of the game is lovely but the outcome is "Meh" as soon as GTA comes out this will die away because it lacks the finished feel of a great game.

    Conclusion:
Single player: utterly useless (google it, that's everyone's opinion)
Online: ok, fun but no more than any other online co-op, you'd rather be with mates.
with friends: would much rather be out having a pint if we can't be in the same place while enjoying ourselves.
Customisation: looks good, I have all sorts of add-ons which needs parts that are part of a lucky dip and I'm yet to get hold of hence no idea.

    Well, where to start.
Before you buy this game, make sure friends are getting this game too because this is where the game really shines.
Want to play single-player with bots? Feel free, although the AI will never be as helpful as other players. Playing with randoms is still very fun and all but if you have some friends that would all get together and play, this game makes what I think

Playing with randoms is still very fun and all but if you have some friends that would all get together and play, this game makes what I think is one of the greatest CO-OP games out there. Each player can customize accordingly to how you want to tackle the mission, loud and easy or stealthy, but tricky. Being able to stealth a full mission really does feel like an accomplishment and something to be proud of, if you can pull it off. But if you go loud, be sure to bring friends that differ in skill. A technician can easily blast open doors and most safes and can quickly get you inside, and an enforcer can use there Portable saw to quickly break open deposit boxes to grab the loot and run. A ghost can much easier stealth missions, obviously, and a mastermind is just a great thing to be. My decision: Grab some friends you can play with, buy this game.

I personally like to be able play a game and not be disadvantaged for not having played for 50 hours but I must say Payday is a refreshing change to the FPS genre. I do enjoy the settings and maps. The graphics and game dynamics are also quite good but I found the game is limited by its absolutely horrendous matchmaking and server joining system with the grindfest to unlock any of the cool in game items. I think I will have gotten my moneys worth out of this game at the 10-15 hour range and then drop it forever. Pick it up on sale and dont bother with the DLC. If I buy a product that sells on it promises that it will have no microtransaction, then later on put in microtransactions, how is that not something to get angry about? It has nothing to do with the microtransactions, but more about the character of the company. If they are going to lie and break a promise this time, what about the next time? And the next next time? Do we forgive them every time?
You tell me. If we get angry and won't trust a friend because of lying, why should be act any different if it is a company?

I thought of Overkill on the same level as developers I could trust like Vlambeer, Tripwire Interactive and Edmund McMillen and suffice to say I was dead wrong. Overkill once was a respectable company, but they have progressively been pushing their game without rest in the wrong direction for an unbelievable amount of time and it's reached a point of no return for both me and many others as clearly shown with the sudden spike of negativity.
They have lied to, exploited and disrespected their die-hard fan base in the pursuit of petty monetary gain under the guise of wanting to "stay independent". I've never seen a small team need the amount of revenue that they seem to claim they're in desperate need of. Other developers, some of which mentioned earlier have made excellent products, in a smaller team and with FAR less DLC being shoved down the community's throats. Keyword also being excellent, Payday is buggy, on a rather pathetic engine, but it's a niche game that fills a role most games can't for people, so it's easy to look pass. They also do update often, but also introducing more problems that either never get fixed or are addressed in a very untimely manner. However, to sell this low quality at double the price of games like the Witcher 3? Please.
I'm not here to simply talk about why one company deserves more money than another though, Overkill has time and again ignored the pleas of their fans and basically ran the game as if they had earbuds on the entire time, and it's their right to do what they want, but that doesn't make them any less of horrible people. I can't believe I have held onto their wretched business practices for this long and I could want nothing more than for them to receive the backlash they so rightfully deserve.
When you're so outraged at a developer you've been following for nearly half a decade that you feel the need to make an account on metacritic to voice your disgust, you know they've sullied their once decent reputation. I hope they become an example for what NOT to do to your community for future game developers.
There's more I could probably address and this is not the best worded review, but there are many reliable sources out there that properly display the atrocity that is Overkill, thank you for reading.

Don't waste a cent on this game because you're just going to have to waste more on it for all the **** DLC they release. Oh, and you also have to pay money to have a chance at getting a good skin.
Oh, and that skin you get could be for a weapon that's from a DLC you don't own requiring you to buy said DLC to use said skin.

Any company which **** its community this hard deserves every negative review possible.

The game was good, Overkill seemed like the only company that cared, then DLC after DLC- which for most games would be too much but for Payday 2 we saw as reasonable for some reason.

Now micro-transactions have crushed the spirit of those who still remained committed to the game.

PayDay 2 is one of the nicest surprises of the year. Overkill Software understands the atmosphere of gangster movies and wisely improves these pieces of gameplay, that might have been disappointing in the first game. The sequel is better in almost every way - you can play a thief and enjoy good character development and shooting systems. I really hope, that PayDay 3 will be even better.
