Only, if only, game publishers take this as a sign that micro-transactions will not be tolerated or at least plainly communicated before implementation.

I appreciate honesty from the people I give my money to. It was a great game, but I cannot possibly recommend a game whose developers act in such a shady manner. If you say no microtransactions, don't add microtransactions. And even if you do, pay2win is never ok.

Do you like buying games? Do you like buying DLC for games so that a company can bring you GREAT FREE CONTENT that you have to PAY FOR? Then this game is for you! Seriously though the devs behind this game do not care about their players only about making money, do not purchase any OVERKILL games ever again.

It has bin stated that as long as micro-transactions bring them money they will stay in the game and i can't recommend that to anyone after so many of us defended and supported them thru the dlc, for them to just step on us and going the extra mile to make sure we felt bad about it... The developers just added microtransactions - Skins you can buy for 2,50€ with certain drop chances. The problem is, these skins give stat boosts, which you can not acquire in another way.

I have played the game for 1140 hours and I am max level in the game.

description of the game: Horde based shooter, where you rob and steal stuff. The developers have made several promises (most of them have been broken later) they have also outright lied several times. One of the features promised would be in the game at release are still not in the game 2 years after release.

    Other problems:

the loot system is a "skinner box" at it will take you at the very least 500 hours to unlock all modifications for the weapons in the game.
    De-sync problems
    No arm or leg hit-boxes
The vanilla weapons are almost always inferior to the DLC weapons.
There are more than 100 dollars worth of DLC
Some of the DLC's are a must buy.
Horrible anti cheat system (there are a lot of cheaters who no clip, do massive damage, spawn a lot of Enemies, or make them not spawn, etc, ruins the fun of the game)
There are micro transactions within the game with stat bonuses (they affect you're weapons, like more damage better, accuracy, less recoil, more ammo, etc)

the only think I can recommend is that you don't buy this game, not even on sale, stay away from this **** of DLC Milking, micro transactions and broken promises from the developers.

The developers decided to completely screw over the entire fan-base, with no remorse. What hurts the most is that the "PR Manager" if you could call him that, "Almir", decided he would pour gasoline onto the fire at the end of it all, with no apologies, basically telling the hardcore fans they don't matter, and that he's happy with the changes they made.

    Never. Again.

Overkill managed to destroy the game. They had a huge community with them. They had all they would dream of. Now they destroyed the game with P2W microtransactions and "balance". Dont even let me start on Completely Overkill Pack.

Overkill have made a once incredible game awful by releasing over $100 of DLC, a large portion of it being considered mandatory to do well in the game by the games community. If that wasn't bad enough, Overkill have added microtransaction skins in what is called "safes", basically CSGO or TF2 cases, but you can't sell these and you can get skins for guns you don't have the DLC for, forcing you to buy DLC to use skins you paid for. They **** up the balance of the game as the skins give boosts to your guns, giving you an edge over players who don't spend extra money (though that was already the case with the dlc's), making it pay to win. They also promised to not add microtransactions in the past.

Once upon a time there was a small, independent game studio that emerged from Grin which was dicked over by a contract default. They made a successful game, PDTH, and the sequel was more successful than their wildest dreams, making millions in profits by pre-order only. They were successful because they really were the mythical regular-guys developer that actually interacted with its community, and got a big help from that community in word-of-mouth marketing by devoted fans. Fans built this game and this company. They're the ones who got the game started and continued to buy DLC clinging to the small-indepedent-developer line until it became undeniably false.

Overkill has cashed in every last drop of devotion from the fans who created it. They continued the regular frequency DLC model to manipulate fans into supporting them, then released microtransactions to double dip. They only work on DLC while ignoring simple fixes and bugs, they promise things that take literally years to get a half-♥♥♥♥♥ copout release, if at all, they nerf DLC content after release, and they've rebalanced (nerfed) specific weapons with the sole motivation of creating a wider pool of weapons that people may want to buy skins for rather than actual gameplay reasons.

Overkill does not care about you. Treat them like EA or Ubisoft from now on.

this game sucks so hard they are never going to fix anything and it is almost impossible to play the game without buying 150 dlc's and then you can still waste another 20 bucks to gain a skin with stat boost which brings your weapon over the breakpoint.
going over the breakpoint is insane cause you now only need 1 shot instead of 2 but that's the reason why to spend 20 bucks...

Knowing this game is not grand theft auto..why is there not a mission where you actually get to "drive" the getaway van with your team? It started out with the praise of fans and reviewers alike as one of the most innovative multiplayer games in recent years. This was proof that a small studio could create something that could change the gaming landscape. So many games have tried to recreate the same magic and have failed to do so.

However, all good things must come to an end. Starbreeze Studios AB has proven it is entirely possible to take a game that is a huge monetary success and absolutely drive it into the ground. With the introduction of micro-transactions as a "thank you" for all of the success, the community as a whole is understandably upset and appalled. That is probably the nicest way one could put it.

I've seen a lot of outrage over shortsighted decisions in the gaming community just within the last ten years alone and quite frankly this is one of the most unanimous attempts at communicating with a developer I have seen in quite some time. It is clear: The community is not OK with the direction that the franchise is taking and they are seeing that Starbreeze quite literally sees them as money farms rather than as their long-term fans.

The micro-transactions which were implemented allow for players willing to spend money to get skins for their guns which would give them a competitive advantage over players that had already spent over $200 on the game and were not wanting to spend more on micro-transactions which do not even add any additional gameplay or depth element to the game. To put things bluntly: The micro-transactions didn't improve the game in any way, shape, or form. Instead, they took away from some of the difficulty of the game which admittingly was rather shallow to begin with.

There has been absolutely zero communication from Starbreeze Studios AB or by Overkill in regards to these decisions and actually taking the input provided by the community. The fact that in 48 hours there was no official statement on it is quite disgusting. We are nearly a week separated from the start of the introduction of the micro-transactional elements and neither the developers nor Starbreeze has taken even a single step towards reconciliation with their fans.

It has become rather obvious that the issue is greed. There are a large number of fans which speculate that Starbreeze is merely trying to extract as much money off of the franchise so they can fuel a huge shift towards a mobile market where there is less of a need to offer a solid gaming experience and more weight is placed on making a large number of smaller transactions to get those playing the games to invest money before they can even tell whether they are going to like the game.

Payday 2 has been harmed during this whole process. At this point enough players have paid for the micro-transactions to make undoing the damage impossible; they are already implemented and players already have them. Taking them away could open up legal complications from those which have spent money regardless of whether it was to see just how broken the micro-transactions are or to actually get ahead in the game. It has become clear that neither Starbreeze Studios AB or Overkill have any interest in fixing the issue or reconciling with their fans. The game is going to dwindle in the number of players actively playing it and the gameplay is already stale at this point since missions will become painfully simple with higher enough (or in some cases low enough) stats.

Its a fun game but it feels grindy the point of the game is to farm for experience to gain new levels to access new perks and to get Loot card drops for weapon mods and masks and materials to customize masks that all cost money and you cant customize a mask again after its already been touched. Not that many exciting weapons either and limited slots for weapons and masks.

The mission variety isnt as stellar as I thought it would be and the worst offense is they plan to complete the game with 5 Dlcs you have to pay for. They sure learned some nasty marketing tricks from David Goldfarb who use to work at EA games notorious for these types of Practices.

The new update completely messed up any sort of balance there was before (weak pistol+skin now better than most powerful rifle). I just hope the mods will one day come to their senses and kill PD:GO.

To make things clear, the game is still very good, but the directions that it has been taking lately is unacceptable. Overkill now treats it as a money printer, and it is time for the community to step up and say enough. These skins aren't even like CS:GO, they massively effect gun usability.

This game has more microtransactions and dlcs than an EA game. Also, they lied about never adding "micro transactions". Sucks when the game has more DLC than the actual base game. I believe there is about $200 in dlc (not including microtransactions)

A once great game absolutely ruined by micro-transactions. Developers have just decided to milk what is left of the community (the people who make this game great) and everyone has had enough. I have 500+ hours in this game. I used to love it. But with the most recent update all the guns have been nerfed to **** or buffed to the point of insanity. Not to mention the micro-transactions, which the devs PROMISED wouldn't be in the game in the first place! And since these micro transactions involve stat boosts the game is now P2W. **** you Overkill.

While this used to be a new and innovative game when it was released. I cannot say the same for it now and its current design and reward choices. Ideally the development and publishing teams will listen to player feedback and curb some of the customer exploitative parts of this game. However until that happens I can only say to stay away from this product.

A month later another developer David Goldfarb responded in an even more blunt way "No. No. God, I hope not. Never. No." Two years later they added microtransactions. Even if you don't agree this ruins the game, how can you take the word of the development team seriously if they are straight up willing to ignore their gaming community and go back on everything they said. This on top of almost 100 dollars in DLC and a currently full priced game is inexcusable. If you are reading this and you also feel this is completely unfair, I urge you to stand with us in rating this down to the level it deserves for taking our money for years then demanding more. They flat out lied to us, the people who decide if they make enough money to eat. They should rightfully understand that ignoring us is not the option they should take. Expand

They promised "Dark Souls" worthy difficulty, yet instead a 4-man team can idle around a majority of the maps waiting for cops. And the rest of the maps? Expect your team to idle around as your ghost or mastermind players do the map for you.

It's a complete mess compared to payday 1, which had a proper "dark souls" difficulty level, proper teamwork, and large grandiose heists with PROPER escapes.

It's half of a game with the other half as a 5 part DLC series. So I can only recommend avoiding this game and checking it out again after a year or two.

Three or so are one day heists, one or two is a two day heist, and three or four are three day heists. Past level 40 there's nothing new to unlock that's level gated. Drops are completely random and you can get the same item you already have, and never unlock what you want for a certain gun. A couple parts of heists are just other maps re-skinned or re-purposed. Classes are also poorly balanced with some talents being useless.

The gameplay is okay, but the AI is horrendous. Cops will position hostages between themselves and you. Hostages will get up and run during firefights if not cable tied. If you play with allied bots they won't do anything but shoot cops and revive you. The enemy cops are also omniscient. You can't sneak up on them during a fire fight. This doesn't make the game hard, however as they're still fairly easy to dispatch. However, the lines the cops have are pretty hilarious. The only way to make Payday 2 difficult is to stealth missions instead of going guns blazing.

A lot of features were left out that were promised, like Safehouse customization. The characters also do not talk to each other like in Left 4 Dead (except when you ask for ammo, someone to follow you, etc), something that's a bit off because you're working together on a heist. There's no banter.

The game is also plagued with a myriad of bugs.

I'm only giving it a 2 10 instead of a 0 10 because it is still enjoyable with friends. However, after about 20 hours each we're all rater burnt out and bored of farming the same 10 heists over and over. Without friends I do not think this game is worth $5.

I recommend waiting for a deal, because the game is $30 and DLC is likely to be paid. I think it is very crummy to only include bad heists and then gate the good, epic ones behind DLC (if the DLC is even epic heists).

At this current moment Payday 2 introduced Micro-transactions for an already paid game with numerous paid DLC packs in their annual Crimefest (a celebration that the developers promised only would add FREE content as a reward for its community) on Day 1 of the Celebration. The only means as of now, to get that added content (paid weapon skins with stats) was paying real money. Making it become something like Pay-to-Win.

Should it become obtainable with ingame means, whether through unused offshore money (the ingame currency) or through the already implemented reward card system (for completing a heist). I presume the community would probably cease the hostilities towards Almir and his Crew and resume to 'normal'.

I like playing the game though (it's a masterpiece aside from this current mess, I own ALL DLC - including Limited ones) and would do so again if they change the P2W scheme and appeal the community, but not like this.. It's no fun now.. :-(

Also, I do not agree with the current changes (added micro transactions) I still love how it used to be, and I don't wish to see it Burn and Completely die out. I love playing Payday 2.. But not the Micro transactions..

EDIT: Drills just became an infamous card drop with Day 6 of Crimefest, it's an improvement, but still waiting if OVERKILL can go one better, my rage is tempered for now, but I remain cautious.. You get the thumbs up back for now, because it is a step in the right direction, but let's see how it ends..

What now must follow is the complete removal of the steammarket integration and OVERKILL's public apologies.. But let's see if that will happen.. No high hopes though

I understand this game is intended to be a CO-OP game, but that doesn't mean it should be boring and even frustrating to play alone. The missions are obviously designed for multiple people, playing them alone can leave you lugging 6 bags from point A to point B one by one as your AI teammates will not assist you with anything except combat. On the topic of AI, even disregarding the atrocious allied AI, the enemy AI is equally as bad difficulty levels are lazy and don't add anything to the tactics enemy AI use, they simply do more damage and are harder to kill.

On a positive note, the game is remarkably fun with a few friends, even with the problems with enemy AI. It's fast-paced, exciting, and rewarding. The specialization skill trees are subtle enough to be reasonable and yet still feel like there's a difference in terms of your ability as any particular role.

Do the cons outweigh the pros? I'm not one to decide that, but this game has glaring issues that should have been addressed prior to launch. However, for a $30 game, it's most likely well worth your money if you have a few friends to play with.

The game is not horrendous. The actual gameplay is great. But dealing with Crime.net to get into a match is too damn tedious, and random loot destroys any reward incentive to work for or progress towards in the game.

The community gave you so many great ideas and not ONCE did anyone EVER suggest something was wrong with the old match making system, OR that a completely randomized loot system sounded like a great idea. That's absurd to even think.

The CEO Almir said there will never be microtransactions. Then he added microtransactions, issued a fake and somewhat arrogant apology after community outrage, and went on to say that the microtransactions are here to stay.

Do not buy this game, or if you have it do not buy any of the $120 DLC. You will end up hating yourself for it.

You buy an ugly, stat boosting skin for half the price of a dlc (which usually comes with several weapons, masks, mods, etc). This was the final straw for me. I wont spend another dime on this game, and urge newcomers to run away. The companys only concern is your money, not quality or content. Expand

Completely overkill. They ruined this otherwise fantastic game.

Overkill just released the new "free" content promised during Crimefest 2015. Microtransactions that alter weapon stats and skins.

I used to really love this game. It was great until the developers started getting manipulative and greedy. The DLC has gotten out of control, and now the microtransactions are the straw that broke a lot of camels' backs. We (the community of fans) have been lied to, manipulated, and squeezed of our hard earned coin. I've had enough. It was a great game, but it's time has passed.

We (the community of fans) have been lied to, manipulated, and squeezed of our hard earned coin. I've had enough. It was a great game, but it's time has passed.

If you enjoy having content walled off behind DLC or having to pay REAL CASH for the privilege of gambling to get a weapon skin expensive enough to help off-set the hatchet job that was their weapon rebalance; then go ahead and but this game.

If you would prefer to keep your money and just that much more of your self-respect, don't give Payday 2 or Overkill a single cent or another second of your precious time.

So to recap: Overkill is a bunch of greedy, manipulative liars. Payday 2 used to be a great game. I'm uninstalling because they've ruined the game and poisoned any good will or trust that they had with the community at large. If you have any other questions about why I'm so annoyed, check out the forums in the community hub (the button's right there across from the title.) Something to the tune of a few thousand angry fans have said everything I could hundreds of times over.

I would NOT recommend this game to anyone, least of all to a friend. Unless of course I no longer wanted to be friends with them.

This is a very disappointing game. Throughout the entire game, I can see flashes of what would be amazing design and amazing gameplay, but it is almost always tarnished or completely broken by poor implementation.

The multiplayer in this game (the only part worth playing, as the game is designed to be social) is based on a peer-to-peer system instead of a client-server system. While this has the benefits of not requiring a server to be set up to play on, it also has huge drawbacks. The netcode only vaguely shows the position of other players, often having them twenty feet behind their actual positions and making things like passing bags a strange and contentious affair. In addition, the enemy AI is based on the lobby leader, so if they have poor upload speed you will see the AI completely stop randomly. Which you may think is beneficial, but I often miss dead-on shots on still targets due to broken and/or nonexistent hitboxes (if you want to clip someone's arm or leg, you have to install a user mod because there are no arm/leg hitboxes).

The large variety of weapons are nice, but functionally it boils down to a couple of simple choices due to extremely poor balancing. Want to do stealth? Use a CAR-4 and Gruber Kurz, because you're not going to need anything else. Want to go in loud? Use an M308 and a Deagle. Due to a recent "rebalancing" of the weapons, there are some ridiculous issues. Shotguns are basically bottom-tier weapons, whereas you can basically one-shot elites with a Deagle. There are other very questionable issues as well. For instance, the Fire Axe and the Great Sword do exactly the same thing, whereas a decorative flagpole does the same thing but faster. Another example is the Empty Palm Kata, which has exactly the same stats as the basic Fist. Why? The EPK is a paid melee and is supposed to be a super-deadly martial art. Why does it do the exact same thing as the basic punch?

The style is all over the place as well. This game can become ridiculous and break its' own tension and theme very easily, whereas the first game maintained a consistent and strong atmosphere. In PD:TH, every heist felt huge and important, like the climax of a heist film - the roots of Payday. In PD2, there is a shotgun blast of heists trying to provide whatever experience people might want, including really dinky and low-effort heists. Very few of the PD2 heists match the hype, tensions and style of the majority of PD:TH heists. In addition to the design of the game itself, the design of the graphics and lighting also changed. In PD2 it's much brighter and almost festive, whereas PD:TH had a hot, washed-out graphical design that sold me the heist atmosphere much more effectively. It felt like I was playing a hardcore heist film back then.

This "shotgun blast" design is pretty indicative of basically everything they want PD2 to be. They've added in extra characters, way too many weapons and weapon mods (a lot of which make ugly-as-hell combinations), a rummage bin of heists and a couple hundred too many masks. They have been pushing to make this game as varied and attractive as possible to new players while selling the established atmosphere down the river.

That attitude relates very specifically to the most disappointing element of the game, the recently added microtransactions. The developers had specifically promised the players that microtransactions would never be in the game and that we should be ashamed to even ask the question. Unfortunately, Overkill stopped being the cool guys that the players were willing to believe they were and added paid weapon skins on the first day of Crimefest 2015, which is supposed to be a series of free rewards for the players being seriously dedicated. Instead of giving everyone skins or something like that, they just gave us the option to pay ridiculous amounts of money for skins and gave us incentive to do so with stat-boosting skins. This absurdly scummy move has alienated a good portion of the crowd, but Overkill rolled it out during the free-to-play weekend in order to cover the playerbase drop and smother opinions about the MTs under the talk of casuals playing the game for the first time. Overkill basically sold hardcore players down the river in order to replace us with more willing cash cows.

But it's not simply that they gave us poor or actively damaging updates; they also give us these updates in place of what one would assume to be incredibly vital updates that one would release immediately after release, if not on day one. One of the later Crimefest updates finally added a jump animation to this years-old game (not that it makes you want to jump on things more, thanks to the sloppy controls that seem to fight you regularly). Combining lack of incredibly obvious quality-of-life updates with game-breaking bugs that exist late into its' life make this a very unsatisfying game to play.

tl;dr would be a great game if not for terrible design and scummy developers

And then the company goes back on their word, releasing paid microtransaction-based weapons skins (which are all ugly as sin). This after promising three times in various places that they'd never do anything like that, even saying "Shame on you if you thought otherwise!"

They released this update, dubbed the Black Market Update, in a "community" event that promised free content for all players. Paying $2.49 for a drill (key) to open a safe (crate) and get a disgustingly bad skin, maybe even for a weapon you don't own because it's locked behind DLC.

On top of this, there is a chance the skins can be statistically better, giving a player who paid extra money an advantage. These advantages can range from better accuracy, stability, higher concealment, extra ammo, and I'm sure there's more I'm missing.

At the same time, they released a "weapon rebalance", with the intent of making all weapons viable in some way. In reality they made certain classes of weapons in every way superior to others, and nerfed popular DLC weapons into the ground.

More than a week of buggy, unfinished "features" being added (I'm looking at you, bipods.), the head dev hosts an AMA on /r/paydaytheheist to discuss the changes. Feel free to go read it yourself, it's hilarious and sad.

He confirmed that statistically advantages on cosmetic skins will not be removed, and that the vocal minority should just ignore the skins if they don't like them (thus making their weapons objectively worse).

He also claimed that this update was necessary to generate revenue, as they weren't receiving enough to maintain their staff. He still claims that Overkill is a small indie company, despite being owned by Starbreeze. Starbreeze's recent financial report shows quite clearly that Payday 2 is making more than enough money to maintain Overkill.

Almir said himself that despite the overwhelming negative response to the pay-to-win weapon skin model, which again, they promised would NEVER happen, that it's been a huge financial success. How else could this be interpreted besides they don't care if people are angry, they're making money and that's all that matters? That's exactly what that means.

Unless you're willing to sink nearly $200 and who knows how much more into this game to have all the content, and then have to spend hundreds of hours grinding to actually unlock said content in the game, AND are willing to put up with a developer who has made it very blatantly obvious that they do not care how their community feels, avoid this game. For your own sake. Go play Killing Floor 2 or Vermintide or something, those games have devs that seem to care. Overkill, how far you've fallen. I hope you enjoy your money you fools.

PayDay 2 is one of the nicest surprises of the year. Overkill Software understands the atmosphere of gangster movies and wisely improves these pieces of gameplay, that might have been disappointing in the first game. The sequel is better in almost every way - you can play a thief and enjoy good character development and shooting systems. I really hope, that PayDay 3 will be even better.
