Overkill has recently launched its self-destruction sequence by making the game join the steam economy.

It was the most hated update in PAYDAY history, obviously an self-destruction for PAYDAY and its community.
Wouldn't be surprised if the game shut down.

There's too many DLCs, when u buy the base game without dlc you have like 1/3 of the game..
The game is filled with bugs, DLC's and micro-transactions. It's like a pay2win, the game is 2 easy, op weapons...

    Pay2Day: Global Offensive

Pay to win mechanics. Want a grenade? That's DLC. Want a good weapon or weapon mod? That's DLC. On top of all that they now sell skins that give in game stats.

How the mighty have fallen, it's a shame really because this game WAS fun while it lasted.

I was a big fan of this game for the longest time because it was the first game in the series that I solely devoted countless hours to learning the in's and out's of each heist, weapon, etc. The keyword in this statement is was. This game has honestly become a game of, "if you don't buy into it; you are going to be behind". I can wholeheartedly understand the conceptual idea behind making DLC, as a developer you want your game to succeed with the hopes of new content that keeps the formula fresh; the way that the devs are going about this though is the wrong way. So where do I begin?

Let's talk Crimefest.. the community performs community tasks with the promises of free content throughout those 10 days. How does the community get treated? A change to the metagame and microtransactions. Change is inevitable when you create anything because you want whatever it is you are creating, to attract a wider audience while staying relevant. The changes thus far have not been good. I'm not even at the mad at the fact that we were lied to about microtransactions; I'm mad at the fact that the basic concept is becoming a part in the meta if you want your character to stay relevant while playing. We get the other side of the argument, "Oh, well this game isn't PvP.. it's PvE, so why complain?" Regardless if this game is PvP or PvE, skins should stay a niche market and not become a necessity. Why do games like CS:GO and TF2 work well with their economies? It's because the skins are there mostly for cosmetic purposes only! And how do we acquire said skins? By buying "drills" or a marketplace, there is no option to use the Offshore Account that you work towards or the option to earn a drill by a very low % card drop after completing a heist. The meta has changed now to where you either pay in and gamble for the chance to get a skinned weapon which mind you, have stat boosts or you use broken weaponry thanks to the influx of skins and the lovely weapon balancing that has been implemented. This is only one complaint out of many and it's upsetting to say the least because I've held this game with such high regards despite the "dodgy DLC model" that kept rearing its head out every few weeks as an attempt to have me throwing my money at my monitor.

It's been a fun year playing this game; I can only recommend it to either someone who loves paying to play despite the price of the core game plus the "mandatory DLCs" or to someone who is masochistic enough to defend these practices. It's not all bad though, this made for a fun Uninstallation Simulator

    Payday 2: Global Offensive

Overkill straight up lied to their customers and destroyed a once great game and destroyed an entire community overnight. They deserve what is coming to them. Just go look at the steam forums for it it's a train wreck. This is coming from someone with nearly 900 hours in the game. They need to remove the day one update from crime fest.

I've dumped about 800 hours into PAYDAY 2. It was fun and games since I picked it up about a year ago. Great fun was had, the developers were very open and vocal, and brought a lot of content to the game. Sure, a lot of it was DLC, but that never bothered me personally. Isn't it a shame to promise that there will never ever be micro transaction within the game and no less than 2 years after you introduce it ?
Isn't it a middle finger in the face of your customer or is it just false advertisement ?

Altogether I’ve spent around close to $100 on a game that I’ve enjoyed and introduced many of my friends to join in my enjoyment in the past. I am disappointed as the game I knew and loved has died, and in its place, a shell off its former self as it goes microtransaction, and predictably Free to play (later on). I’ve logged aroun 400 hrs on this game. It was my stress relief after a long day’s work. Sadly since it seems Overkill is hellbent on implementing Microtransactions, I will have to move on.

I usually play Payday 2 religiously for about a month or so at a time. then take a break for about a month and rinse and repeat. Ive been doing this since it came out. it was about that time for me to start again and have completely lost interest. Ive bought every single piece of DLC they have released (only when on sale, because even without this microtransaction ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ i still thought this game was a money hungry cash cow.) and you ahve officially lost a customer. The implementation of microtransactions in a $30 base value, and about $70 DLC list is absolutely atrocious.

To start off the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that is the already existing DLC system they had, so many of the DLC they came out with has become vital to the gameplay experience, and without it the game honestly feels really stale. I cant help but think this was intended, and therefore nearly mandatory for players to put in their extra ~$20 dollars to get the full game experience. (most of the DLC is actually useless since alot of the new weapons they release are still suboptimal to the base game's weapons. I also put nearly no value on masks ~$20 dollars will get u the sniper pack, gage courier mod, and maybe a gage weapon pack for basically the full experience)
The introduction of sniper rifles, which lets face it shouldve been in the base game, changed the play style of this game for many people. yet is only offered for the 7 dollar price point(at release). other packs like the gage courier mode which made it far easier to unlock weapon mods, which is already hard to find because its all left to chance, allowed players to get the mods they wanted more frequently, also gated by a 7 dollar price point (at release)
There are so many simple things they have added to this game that are imperative to the PD2 experience that is each gated behind a $7 price tag that should have and could have been easily included in the base game.
ALL WHILE THERE ARE SOME TERRIBLE PROBLEMS LIKE DESYNCRONIZATION AND TERRIBLE WEAPON BALANCE THAT HAVE BEEN AROUND SINCE DAY 1.

Overkill lost my respect for a company even before this whole fiasco of microtransactions, yet i dealt with is because i still enjoyed playing with friends. But now i wouldnt trade a dog turd for any more of their lackluster DLC.

Crimefest is (was) a tradition: the whole community worked together to complete objectives, showing their love for the game, and Overkill always rewarded it with FREE content and improvement. With Crimefest 2015 the community got microtransaction. Yeah, that kind of plague that Almir himself said would've never reached Payday 2.
"So? CS:GO is fine with them, why are you so upset?". Fair question. Point is that this system isn't just a cosmetic bonus because weapons skin (which aren't extras: they replace the usual, free rewards after a successful heist) give BONUSES, turning this game into a pay2win. Also, as if it weren't enough already, the microtransaction came with a complete rework of weapon stats, which made them completely unbalanced and broken, thus forcing the players to pay for skins to have their loved gun viable again.

The game used to be about 4 guys robbing banks and stores and a variety of of other heists. Then they started introducing character after character that had no conceivable relationship to the game and some just blatant marketing tie ins (ie. John Wick from the movie).

They started pumping out DLC for the game (4.99 a pop) that included characters, inferior weapons, masks, melee weapons no one uses. Granted people thought some of these weapons would be cool....but A Rocket launcher, a Flamethrower, Bow and Arrow, A Vulcan Mini Gun, World War II crap and now Ninja Items...really?

The few new maps that have come out have been riddled with bugs and have come at a premium price usually around 6.99 and that was for a single map, a few new pointless achievements, some cosmetics like masks and of course usually a few more melee weapons no one uses.

There are still countless bugs in the game that have never been fixed since its launch yet new pointless DLC keeps getting pumped out.

Then the kicker for me came when they decided to make money in the game absolutely pointless. It used to cost a lot of money to go up into the Infamy levels past your first 100. They decided after the first 5 you no longer had to pay for it. So people quit looting anything except what was necessary to complete mission to get it over as quick as possible to get exp to level up.

The game has lost its way and is nothing but a cash cow for the developers....it almost feels like they have contests to see how pathetic of a DLC they can make and then take bets on how many people will actually buy it.

They promised to address many issues like the Infamy System and others after the community complained loudly. They never did and their promises now more than ever just look like they were trying to shut the community up.

They have added micro transactions now after promising from the beginning this would never happen and again are now "promising" to address the concerns at a later date. I think the community is finally done being fooled by empty promises.

I stuck by you through the Disappointment Bat.

I kept supporting your game even after our ultimate free reward was a playable John Wick that you'd have given us anyhow.

I waited almost a year for your FBI files (I never understood why you didn't use L4D2's Valve stats like you did for the first Payday) which turned out to be little more than storyline fluff and blatantly ripping off a fan-made site.

I was patiently waiting for the Infamy 2.0 revision that was promised days after you rolled out Infamy 2.0.

I was all set to wait and see if you managed to salvage this new "weapon balance" that you pushed without any real testing or knowledge of the metagame.

But now? I just played the new free heist. It would be marginally more fun than the Armored Transport heists if it weren't a BLATANT advertisement for your new crate system full of microtransactions that YOU PROMISED would never be in the game.

I loved the first Payday. I loved this Payday. I was so happy to have Almir respond to a post I made on the Steam forums just hours after I bought this installment of the franchise. I believed fervently that this was a developer that cared about its community. I convinced so many of my friends to buy it and try it out. I bought gift copies for the holdouts. I bought DLCs at full price even if they didn't wow me because I wanted to support you guys and watch you make the best game you could.

Now I'm watching you trample all over your community for the quick buck. You've made us swallow **** one too many times, Overkill, and I simply can't recommend this game to my friends or anyone else the way I used to.

However, when a development team commits the dual sin of A.) claiming several times that they will never add microtransactions to the game and then adding microtransactions to the game and B.) making said microtransactions have mechanical effects that cannot be achieved through any means but paying for the micro-transactions, I cannot in good conscience recommend their game. That's a serious betrayal of trust of their playerbase, and I can't recommend supporting a team that does that.

The most egregious part is the fact that there's no way to get these mechanical benefits without paying. It would be one thing if you had to pay for purely cosmetic effects but not for mechanical effects - that's what most other well-received micro-transaction games like CS:GO, TF2, and Planetside 2 do - but that's unfortunately not the case here. Don't get me wrong - I'd still be irritated by their addition, since the dev team promised several times not to use mico-transactions if they took a page out of Valve's book. But I wouldn't be recommending you stay far away.

Game gets 'balanced' in favor of DLC content.
    Get reamed by pay2win microtransactions.

I cannot recommend this game anymore due to blatant lies the developers told. This is the worst day in gaming world. One cannot just see it go!........

Unfortunately, this game has gone downhill since last year, in a major way. Keep in mind most of these weapons are only unlocked via paid DLC, meaning in order to upgrade your weapon completely, you have to first buy the DLC, then hope you get a drop for a safe, then buy a drill for a safe, then hope it's the right part. It's ridiculous and they've lost my business as a customer. They have a litany of other broken promises as well, and if you read below, you'll see other users feel the same way. Expand

We are a voice for the crews of Payday 2, the developers of Payday 2, Overkill have destroyed a game loved by many, and I am unfortunately forced by my morals to leave a negative review. I love the game, but hate what it has become.

To be blunt, they added microstransactions after years of promising not to.

payday 2 used to be a decent game back in the day. but with dozens of paid dlc's and recent implementation of microtransactions it became a cash grab. stay away!

Unethical business practices. They lied to the community on the issue of micro transactions. After viewing this even after supporting this group since payday the heist I find it difficult to recommend this to any other players.

PayDay 2 is one of the nicest surprises of the year. Overkill Software understands the atmosphere of gangster movies and wisely improves these pieces of gameplay, that might have been disappointing in the first game. The sequel is better in almost every way - you can play a thief and enjoy good character development and shooting systems. I really hope, that PayDay 3 will be even better.

Payday 2 is an excellent co-op shooter - a vast improvement over the first one. [Sept 2013]

A unique and captivating multiplayer experience that rewards team work over personal glory. But make sure you bring friends for the true experience. [Nov 2013, p.62]
