Microtransactions that cause certain players to have significant stat benefits over others is completely bogus. ESPECIALLY SINCE OVERKILL SAID THEY WOULD NEVER DO THAT. Isn't the whole point of Crimefest that it was all free? We earned our free content by completing the challenges Overkill gave us, so where is it? Payday 2 was a fine game 1 or 2 years ago but now...

All your loadout is now worthless and nerfed because of the new game balance.
If you want to restore your old loadout power you have to PAY to get SKINS

You read it : SKINS change weapons STATS !!!

The game (130$ of base game & DLC) is now a PAY2WIN game !

I can't recommend this game to anyone.

People ignore that Gamecrazy guy as he's a part of the sinking boat yet does not acknowledge it. Big presses, youtubers, reddit, forums have covered that overkill made an unfavorable change.

People like him are why the changes are in the game, they tend to ignore everything and become happy once something free is given to them even if it does not outweigh the bad changes.

This game used to be good, but too much DLC with overpowered or useless weapons killed it for me. Recently got back into it, excited for the new batch of free content. What welcomed me? Microtransactions.

Well, that's fine, they're just weapon skins right? Wrong. they affect stats, you cannot choose them and you can very easaly get a skin for a gun you don't even f*cking own. Sorry

In typical Free-to-Play titles, microtransactions offer an avenue to support the developer and get some cool cosmetics to show you are doing so in-game; however, In the case of Payday 2, the microtransactions consist of RNG weapon skins that also add stat buffs to your guns. This is paired with a "rebalance" that was released on the same day that nerfed most of the popular weapons in terms of accuracy, power, or both. The only way to get your weapons back up to snuff is to perform a microtransaction and get lucky with the RNG.

Due to this turn of events and the lack of response to overwhelming community outcry over the last 48 hours, experienced players are advising potential newcomers to avoid buying this title partly due to Payday 2 becoming a money pit for the developers, and partly due to the prediction that this game will become free-to-play in the near future.

In its current state, even free-to-play, avoid this title and let developers know that practices such as going back on their word (it was promised that microtransactions would not come into play in two previous statements by the developers) and forcing customers who already paid for the game to perform microtransactions to continue having a good experience will not be tolerated by consumers.

The developers of the game Payday 2, have been notorious for not focusing on what is really needed for the game to be balanced. Despite this the community of this game have given alot to overkill and stuck with them. The community have made the game a great place to be, since they all chipped in to help make the game better, via information to players, mods that made huds and other things more transparent. But even though the community have done quite alot, the developers screwed over their customers and fans. They held an event called Crimefest, where reaching certain goals content would be unlocked for the players for free. However the first crimefest goals were to make people buy their DLC and different goals where how many people bought their DLC. The community made sure they reached their endgoal, making overkill a ton of money. The second crimefest goals where making people join their community, advertising the game for them.
One of the rewards were that micro transactions that affect gameplay being implemented into the game.
So people buying their game, buying their DLC, advertising for them are rewarded with microtransactions. That is not a rewards, that is being scammed and screwed over.

There are good co-op games out there, that doesn't have micro transactions and not add every little piece of content as paid DLC every 1-2 months.
If you are looking for a game to play with friends without sinking over 150$ in it, better look for another game and stay away from Pay2WinDay.

We were promised by everyone involved this would never happen, but over time the game has become nothing but a billboard of sell out advertisement with nothing to do with the game as well as turning away from krew canon and letting every schmuck into crime net with a gun. Payday 2 is anything but a good Coop shooter. For starters, the voice acting is terrible, so is the mission design. It's an overpriced half finished shooter that does nothing new to re-invent the genre. You might aswell just save your 30€ and pre order GTA V instead.

Not anymore. Overkill decided (maybe at Starbreeze Studios behest) that not only should we pay for all the increasingly lousy DLCs, but now there should be content behind microtransaction paywalls.

One of the original creators of Payday 2 (who is no longer with the company) said that there would never be microtransactions in this game. The current head of development for this game said TWICE that there would never be microtransactions in this game. Clearly he is a liar and Overkill doesn't respect their consumers.

Well, they opened a Pandoras Box with this little stunt during an event which (according to years past) is supposed to be free content only for the people who put quite a large amount of money in their pockets. WE supported them and they decided that it wasn't good enough. I, for one, won't take that. I'm done with this one and if I can dissuade even one person from ever playing another Overkill made game I'll feel like I've accomplished something good.

I really don't know what to rate this game... Gameplay is superfun, cool and challenging. But the game is very poorly made and that spoils then fun most of the time.

Things that really need to change:
    - Connectivity errors or random connection dropouts
    - There is no way to see if the games that are hosted are stealth or rambo. This sucks very hard because if you are looking for a stealth game you have to join 7-8 games before you find one.
    - There are too much random bugs (like not being able to drop a bag, i.e. bagbug).
    - Single player (bots) isn't playable. The bots can't do anything but being immortal, revive and shoot.
    - Annoying cardsystem with mask-upgrades all the time. Or pesky XP or money boosts. I want weapon mods, I don't care about masks...
    - Offshore cash isn't useful at all. It became sort-off usefull while the birthday of Pay Day was being celebrated, but even then it was pointless: 30 million dollars for one low grade weaponmod? Great... There should be more uses for offshore account.

    - These are no must for the game to be great, only better: Ways to upgrade and customize your own secret hideout. More weapons would be very handy also. I would like a way of customizing armor as well, it's very ugly right now.

The idea behind the game is brilliant. The execution very, very, VERY bad. Despite all the flaws, bad programming and bugs I rate it a 6 out of 10 because of all the fun I have with it when it works. When the game finally becomes more mature I would rate it higher with no doubt.

But never before have the discussion threads been so overwhelmingly censored, to the point where the threads are now mostly positive. If you are new to Payday2, please read the reviews but don't trust anything under the control of the developers (such as the main forum boards).

    Now: a review of Payday2.
I was previously tempted to write a review, but there is no "sort of" recommend function in steam, however recent developments have firmly pushed me off the fence regarding this game. I would not recommend that anyone buy this game unless they are young, clueless and with too much pocket money, and only then because it will mean they're less likely to spend it on crack.
The base game comprises of a limited weapon set and a few heists, with very few weapon mods. You'll have to join "the community group" for a few freebies, but even then you will have to do without grenades, machine guns, sniper rifles, RPGs, miniguns, bows, thrown weapons, any sort of incendiary, etc, etc, etc.
Roughly 1/3 of the weapons are available to purchase without DLC.
And this is where the game shows its colours; There are around 30 DLC packs for you to enjoy, assuming that you have the cash, from £1 for a music track to £5 or so for anything with a new weapon or heist. These DLC have been enjoying a "power creep" for the last couple of years, apparently, to a point where a non-dlc player is at a very clear disadvantage.
Combine this with new enemies who are extra-vulnerable to the special DLC weapons and a clear pattern starts to emerge, whereby pay-to-play is becoming pay-more-to-win.
All of which I could ignore simply by avoiding playing with minigun-wielding 10 year olds. But the things I can't ignore are still there regardless of whether I play solo or online, most notably the bugs & poor netcode. There are bugs from the first release of the game which have not been fixed in two years. There are promised features which have not been delivered for two years. And yet the devs still find time to release 1 DLC pack per month.
The most recent development (apart from the aforementioned forum censorship) is the introduction of microtransactions to gain stat boosts for weapons. This in a game that's not free-to-play, and which requires 2 or 3 different DLCs to fully upgrade even the most basic weapon, and which has 30 DLCs. Not acceptable, imho.

The biggest problem here is that once you've bought the game, you'll probably like most of the gameplay. It's far from perfect, but enjoyable. I've had some fun with it. What ruins the experience is the cash-hungry, rip-off way that the devs are "supporting" the game. And if you like the game, you'll be tempted to start spending more cash . . . . . just DON'T. Don't start, 'cos you'll end up disappointed like so many others. if the £100+ price tag for the completed game doesn't put you off, all the extra microtransactions will. Or perhaps the constant power-creep of the DLCs will get to you. Or maybe being lied to by the devs will get to you. Or maybe having your comments censored will get to you. Or maybe being sniped through a floor, or being kicked through a wall will get to you. Or being disconnected from a game on day 3 of a 3-day heist will. Or the incredible lag (even between PCs on a LAN). And you'll be £100 poorer.

With decent bugfixes, and "developer support" that does not make me feel like I'm bending over crying "Take me! Take me!" while I throw cash into an incinerator, I could recommend this game. But not as the game is today.

Payday 2 has a skill tree. You only get 120 points. Payday: The Heist you get all the trees. You just have to complete objectives and stuff just to get reputation up.

**DO NOT BUY A GAME FROM THESE GUYS**

Been playing almost since it was released.
Over 3400 hours in game. Yes, I said 3400.

    The designers (Overkill Productions):
-Actually, literally, on Twitter, told this gaming community that we should stop complaining about game changes that were made (in relation to "stealth") because "We were playing the game wrong". I'm not joking. Game designer Goldfarb actually tweeted that. Apparently, after you pay your hard-earned money for this game, you can be in the wrong in how you play it. Who knew?
-Do not fix long-standing bugs/errors such as non-stop AI wall-clips, all AI's shoot through walls/floors/ceiling without attempting to navigate to targets through map, AI's with improper sequencing logic (friendly AI's ignore obvious, immediate threats in favor of lesser actions)
-Treat this game like a long-standing Beta
-Think nothing of dumping untested code and then letting the community report errors that should have been caught before release (EX. earlier this year, a release was issued that, once installed, caused hard-crash to desk-top any time you tried to reload a shotgun).
-Promised, in a public posting, that there would never be micro-transactions/pay to win,..and here they are!
-Add things with no actual benefit to game play (trailer movies, FBI files, masks, colors, patterns), and call them gifts to the players. They just do not seem to understand that we play this game for the maps. That's all we want. More maps. But they go and spend our money making pretty trailers.....and sticking them on our hard-drives! If you have limited HD space, forget about it. Current game size is listed as 25GB, 20 of which are the trailer videos. You can't delete them. You can't access them from your game menu (and that should have been an easy thing to include in the menu, especially if you're sucking up my harddrive space!)
-Submitted to the whining of fan-boys and their own greed, adding rocket-launchers, grenade launchers, flame throwers to game----EXCESSIVELY OP!! Ruins the game, makes it into a cartoon, totally in contrast to it's original feel.
-Created a "Dodge" class, where the more you run around (without armor) the less you're shot. Again, this is like a cartoon, and so many players are bad at it, that the game gets dragged down trying to save them from their own mistakes. Terrible.
-After promising no micro-transactions, here they are!
-In support of micro-transactions, they nerfed all the weapons. Now, to get back the capabilities of the guns you previous purchased thru DLC, you have to pay to buy their skins. No way to get these in-game. Greedy and not what is wanted in a game that cost so much. Over a dozen $6 DLCs plus original game cost. Once I buy a game, I don't want Freemium spending.
-Actually, literally BEGGED the community back in January 2015 for $20 each to help "support them while they created the next free map". Yes. Said that right. $20 each so they could give us a free map. W.T.F?
-At the request of COD fanboys, continue to add ridiculous obstacles (cloakers, turrets, super-cop Winters) that don't work right, don't work well, don't mesh with game flow, are installed in a lazy manner. It's like somebody said "try to kill me more" and they listen. Just balance the damn game, and leave it at that!
-Supercop Winters only spawns at front edge of map. Doesn't move around. Just stands there. No imagination, no effort put into possible movement of phalanx to other locations on map. Just enough to get them onto map at the front. A ten-year old could have written that code before lunchtime.
-Cloaker code has never worked right. "Warning sound" that is supposed to get louder and louder as you near a cloaker is only heard AFTER they knock you down. Cloaker stats are ridiculous. Half-dozen shots to head with a heavy gun and they don't even stagger once their attack is initiated.
-Turrets don't move. Uninspired. Just bullet funnels that show up and hose you down. Would have been much more in spirit of the game if they were part of an escape scene, not the primary heist. All it takes to disable is enough damage. Not a serious threat to anybody with common sense to duck. This is a crime game, not COD. Just a dumb addition.
-Guards taken hostage at gunpoint are not coded to answer their radio call, saving a "pager reply" from the max allowable of four. Sorry, but if you get a guard in cuffs while holding a shotgun to his head, there has to be at least a 50-50 chance he'll co-operate and answer his call in a way that helps the heisters and not sound the alarm.
-Grenades----oh, let's not forget the wonderful coding error here: one out of every three grenades is shot out of your hand by the cops. 1 out of 3.
-Detection code errors. Player with detection range of 3m spotted at 30 when there is a verticle separation from the opponent during stealth. DECIMAL POINT ERROR NEVER FIXED!!

What happens when you treat your most loyal customers as ATM's? You ruin a franchise and probably your next one AKA "pulling an Overkill".

The game itself is great. The giant cash wall to start playing it is not. You want grenades? Oh you'll have to buy DLC. You want that silencer for your build? DLC! You want a sniper rifle? DLC! If you LOVE DLC inflating the price of your games to well over the price of two games that don't try to rip you off, buy Payday2.

This is the day I convinced myself would never come. If you are looking for an honest and recent PAYDAY 2 review, this is it:

PAYDAY 2, a game which I played for quite a while now. Actually had a positive impression of it most of the times, even though some negative aspects kept accumulating over the last year, but it was fine for what it was and I was quite happy playing it. Welp,

Welp, here we go, the CRIMEFEST. For those, who are not familiar, this is THE big thing. Ten days of constant updates, new expansions and content and all that for free. The community has to do some work to get there though and solve some challenges to unlock the rewards. Sounds fun right? Well it was until they released the update and revealed their big surprise for day one: microtransactions... yeah and some unbalancing changes about the weapon system.
This was the point where all the little things I've been disappointed in before came into my mind again, this was the point where I could no longer talk myself into ignoring those truly disappointing things: PAYDAY 2 is a game made of DLC and more DLC. This started a while ago and somehow I got myself to ignore the annoyingly enormous flood of "Downloadable content" which somehowpresented guns better than the stock ingame weapons. Just like I told myself to ignore the constantly collapsing servers, which made the game unplayable (not kidding) on free weekends. Just like I've got myself to ignore the bad cheater-check system and the net coding bugs.

I endured all this. I paid for all those DLCs. I completed all those "hype" challenges. And I got so **** excited... for THIS? Not only is this the "big update event with all the good stuff", no it's the part where OVERKILL promised us big changes, amazing content and all this for free! Well, thanks, now I can spend more money on cosmetics.. for free!! The funny thing is: OVERKILL stated several times, that there will never be microtransactions. They just straight up lied to their community, thanks for that. It started with the DLC **** this is what it became now, what's to come? Monthly pay so i can still play payday? This is how you treat your "beloved fans"? I have rarely been so disappointed in a developer and I've played Watch Dogs... believe me, I know my bad games.

Seriously, I hoped this day would never come, but here it is: **** you Overkill! Seriously, nothing but a **** you!" from me. I wont even be able to play anyways during this "hype event" since your **** servers are flooded with free players, so they crash every 5 seconds. PAYDAY 2 was one of the most amatzing games for me when I bought it, but with every DLC, with every little "update" and with every "balance change" it turned into a bigger pile of crap. Thank you for ruining a game that I already paid for. Just to put this in perspective: by making "safes" (the microtransaction thing, like crates in TF2 or cases in CS:GO) an obligatory loot drop you are not only pissing me off, but for me, a person who will not buy any of your keys, or drills or however the hell you want to call them, you remove about 10% of my loot drops, since I cant decide whether I want to have that **** thing or not. So instead of adding anything, you just removed something. THIS is my update? Thanks a whole bunch.

Please do yourself a favor and DO NOT buy this game. It looks fun and when it works it sometimes is, but most of the time its either connections or net code or DLC flooding / hackers / some other bullcrap that just ruins it. I am seriously pissed off, so sorry for the language (that steam will censor anyways), but please listen to me. I have played this for a long time and I know what I'm talking about.

    Peace Out

Well what can i say. I got 1200h+ Hours played. Yes i bought the completely Overkill Pack and supported the game.
But adding Stats to tradeable Skins is a way to even stop me from playing.
And now you have to post Reviews because in the group negative Feedback gets deleted.

And not 24h ago they said what a great Community we are. Seems im not part of that Community.

I love this game. I wonder who in the company thought lying to it's community was a good idea? It's really sad to see a good product ruined by morons that milk it for money.

This game was very good, but a hundred dollars of dlc, and now the addition of microtranactions will be the final nail...

    RIP Payday...

    If only i didn't buy that damn C.O.P. ...

Was a very good game, until they added microtransactions. I loved this game. I have 600+ hours on record. Look at the score I'm giving it.

    Don't buy it.

A once great game that has been destroyed by it's own developers on their 2nd annual event Crimefest.
Microtransactions, when promised none to be included in the game, CS: GO elements, stat boosting skins...and by the time this review is written, it's only day 3 of the event.
It'll be a long while till they recover from this mess.

Microtransactions in a paid game. Makes the game Pay to win. Overkill lied to it's fans and customers. We will not stand for this nonsense. Skyrim introduced paid mods and it's reviews dropped from 98% to 70%, after which paid mods were removed. Do the same to Payday 2, and if they have any shame they will fix this.

    p2w skins RIP

A game filled with bugs, DLC's and now micro-transactions.
Avoid buying this, just buy anything else, it's better.
Falsely advertised. I still love Payday, but moneywhoring Overkill is dead to me.

Payday 2:Global offensive is a thing now. Overkill introduced the exact thing of CSGO to payday2, but without skins drop which is very bad for payday 2.

Overkill just released the Black Market Update, which literally parallels the CS:GO Arms Update. Overkill said before that they wouldn't introduce microtransactions, and now here we are...

Payday 2 ? More like pay to be good. You can spend extra money on this game for weapons with higher stats that you can´t get normaly and be a pro. With microtransactions Overkill did overkill this game.

So here's the thing. I have 2,000 hours in this game. I have a Youtube channel of me doing Death Wish heists solo without bots. I did the Tabula Rasa challenge solo without bots, unmodded weapons, before Grinder. You could say I loved this game at one point.

That time is gone. Overkill has repeatedly broken promises. They directly said before release "We will not ever have
So here's the thing.

They directly said before release "We will not ever have microtransactions." And yesterday, October 15, 2015, they added Microtransactions. This game is not Free to Play with microtransactions. This game is not cheap with microtransactions. This game has a reasonably priced base game with $100 of DLC. In order to purchase this game with all DLC, you must pay $130 outside of a sale. On topof this $130 price tag are microtransactions. Just...think about that. The price of this game alone is more than the price of two AAA games. Overkill then has the audacity to TRIPLE DIP on this by adding microtransactions.

Last year, there were a series of "what's next" audio files hinting at something. After a *month* of daily audio files being released, it culminated in an advertisement for another game that isn't released until 2016 and an in-game baseball bat.

Last year, we had "Crimefest," where the top reward Overkill was to release was a mystery. This mystery ended up being John Wick. A movie tie-in they were going to make and release anyway.

Last year, some of the rewards for Crimefest were "FBI Files" (in-game stats), and a new enemy. These weren't released until this year. The FBI files ended up being a re-implementation of a communit web page, and the new enemy ended up just being a bunch of shields standing in a circle.

This year, Overkill did a "Hype Train" event. By pre-ordering DLC, we would get "hype-fuel" points. With enough "hype-fuel," rewards for the community would be unlocked. In order to boost sales, Overkill finally delivered on a promise of finishing their new prestige levels (called Infamy). The first five infamy levels provided very small gameplay benefits along with awesome in-game masks. The next 20 levels released in Infamy 2.0 provided new masks and experience point bonuses (so you can infamy....faster?). I call this "Mask Pack 2.0." It took Overkill 14 months to release this. In response, people started refunding their DLC pre-orders. In response to THAT, Overkill released the DLC early so no one could get refunds. The latest Hype-train reward has yet to be released. In response to this, I completely stopped buying DLC. I have no DLC at all that has been released since Mask Pack 2.0.

And most recently, Overkill added microtransactions after explicitly saying that they will NEVER do that along with intentionally breaking extremely well made community mods. Overkill does not deserve your money. They do not deserve any money. They have repeatedly broken their promises to the community. They have insulted the community. They have done absolutely nothing but show how far a company can fall.

Overkill, shame on you. I truly do not believe there are words that can describe my level of disappointment with you. Am I angry? You bet your ♥♥♥ I am. But more than that, I'm just so disappointed. You've truly shown that you are nothing but liars and cheats. I truly hope your company goes out of business.

Don't buy this game at it's current state. You're gonna end up paying a whole lot of money for bunch of useless DLC and you'll get microtransaction system as a "free" bonus from lying, cash-oriented developer.

Microtransactions disguised as a "free update to the community for all the support", really? I could have bought the DLC:s part, as a way for them to earn money, but when one implement skins with stats who you need to unlock through crates?... Nope, that's crazy. You went too far Overkill.

Game was launched broken with promises, became DLC fest. Defended by fanboys, publisher saw that and now they put the final nail in the coffin with MICROTRANSACTIONS (on top of the SIMS amount of DLC)

Now the internet is pissed off and even the fanboys can't their **** anymore, that's a REALLY bad sign.

The community was lied too. Micro-transactions had been released when Almir said it would never happen. OverKill will not make a single buck from me this day on. I hope The Walking Dead game dies in production. You don't deserve to be a video game company if you lie to your customers like this. I hope Putin annexes your country.

PayDay 2 is one of the nicest surprises of the year. Overkill Software understands the atmosphere of gangster movies and wisely improves these pieces of gameplay, that might have been disappointing in the first game. The sequel is better in almost every way - you can play a thief and enjoy good character development and shooting systems. I really hope, that PayDay 3 will be even better.
