Since the developers which promised no microtransaction added weapon skins with stat bonus into the game and ignore players' opinion, I don't think I should recommend a game which the developers cared about money more than the game itself or their players. There has been so many examples of a game from developers like that before, and it mostly never goes well.

I created an account just to emphasize just how badly Overkill has **** this game up. For context, I have 481 hours in game.

In a single day (the first day of Crimefest 2015), they:
    - demonstrated how they cannot be trusted by introducing microtransactions, that they promised would never become a part of the game
    - also demonstrated this by introducing microtransactions during an event they claimed was 100% free
    - introduced microtransactions (this is its own bullet point) in the form of weapon skins
    - introduced pay-to-win microtransactions by giving stat bonuses to certain weapon skins
    - introduced microtransactions in a $20 game with $120 of DLC
    - completely decimated the weapon balance, giving pistols insane power (even giving the Deagle enough power to one-shot bodyshot kill one of the toughest basic enemies in the game), and neutering shotguns and assault rifles; this is coming from someone who mostly used pistols in the past
    - in doing so, nullified the benefits of some of their own DLCs (the AA-12 is useless)

As of the end of Crimefest, Overkill has stated that none of these will be removed, and essentially declared that the veterans of the game no longer mattered to them, as the 'majority' of the player base (i.e. many new players who joined during Crimefest, while PAYDAY 2 was having a free weekend) were paying for weapon skins.

tl;dr Overkill lies about microtransactions, pay2 win, their own in-game event, their financial status, and basically everything else

This used to be a great game. There were occasional DC, a view of which were necessary for the game to be playable. Now there is a new $5 extension every month, with each weapon stronger and less and less thought out. To truly get into this game takes hundreds of hours and probably close to $80 or so. Just get a better game that has a less **** developer.

It was great. The many players co-existing in peace. But then everything changed when the microtransactions attacked. Sucks even more because we were promised no microtransactions. Now the devs are ignoring the community and paying attention to only their own lust for money. If I wanted to have devs screw me over, I would have gone to EA or Ubisoft

Payday 2 used to be an amazing game, until this year. I have nearly 500 hours in this game, and I'm giving it a negative review, why?

Because the company behind the game is an absolute ass to players. They treat us like walking wallets, and it's evident in the way they produce content. Over 70% of the content for this game is paid, and that's not okay. I urge you not to buy this game,

This game used to be one of my favorites in my steam library. About a month ago I would have still vouched for this game. However, the developers have chosen to take the game down a path that they swore they never would. Micro-transactions.

EVEN WORSE, the micro-transactions give you in game stat boosts that you would not have otherwise.

When they announced micro-transactions, the whole community went up in arms. People decided that it would be best to bash Payday 2 on steam reviews and metacritic. I decided to wait. "Maybe", I thought, "Maybe they will announce an apology after this event is done. Maybe they will take back the stat boosts and realize the mistake they had made."

Today, they made an announcement. Micro-transactions to stay. Stat boosts to stay.

What people dont understand was that a big part of this games initial selling point was the fact that they had PROMISED to the community that they would NEVER make the game a pay to win. Yet, they went back on that promise.

Furthermore, during their AMA(ask me anything: an open forum of sorts where fans and users can directly ask the company questions with an almost immediate response) said that they have always cared about their community and actively seek compromise when conflict arises, yet they did not budge one bit on the problems brought up by the community.

So, long story short, I give this game a 0/10 not because the game itself is bad, but they people that run it are. If you are looking to be treated as nothing but a wallet, if you are looking to have your voice muffled and silenced, if you are looking for a game that gets easier when you throw money at it, or you simply just love to be on the bad side of an abusive relationship, then PAY2DAY is the game for you.

If not, I would strongly advise you against this game.

The major problem with this system is that the skin gained that way can give you a bonus to your weapon. It range from a small bonus to a massive advantage.

DLC isn't even good anyway, most of the guns are jokes (like the crossbows, WWII guns, etc) - the game has declined steadily since the addition of John Wick and Crimefest 2015 was the nail in the coffin.

Hopefully Steam will at least refund the last two DLCs I purchased (in December of last year), I've already uninstalled this waste of hard drive space.

This game is complete garbage. Be prepared to have to pay to unlock superior weapons unless you want to be doing no damage while everyone else is having all the fun with their paid-for weapons. Seriously. You buy this game brand new for full price, and then you are expected to pay more money indefinitely to get any actually good gear or weapons. Stay far away from this trainwreck.

I used to love this game, however since adding in micro transactions I can no longer support the game or its developer. The stat changing skins are truly abhorrent and frankly have absolutely ruined the game. Coupled with a total lack of adequate communication or justification from the developers I wholeheartedly recommend avoiding this game.

Sick of the developer's greasy business tactics. This game is roughly $110 with all DLC, but even now you can't own the entire game. now you need to either buy drills for stupid tf2 crate knockoffs in order to get all weapon skins, or grind missions for god knows how long.

TL;DR don't buy this game. you'll never own all the content it has to offer.

A the beginning, the game was fun. I was OK with paid DLCs. That was their only way to develop the game more to make it better. Then came the microtransactions. The fact that the money they earn by selling the main game and the DLCs isn't enough to pay the team may be real. But they lied too much times to us. And this is not the drill we can drop which can change everything. They've just had a bad management of the money. They knew all they earn with what they already did wouldn't be enough to pay all of them. And some skins can boost your weapons. Kind of Pay-2-Win. Almir Listo also said that they will not be removed because the game is already "balanced" without the skins. Seriously, just find another way to make money, not by ruining the game. They lost many important persons of their community and they will not come back. Moreover, PD2Stats, an awesome website made by fans which allowed us to see stats of other PD2 players is now dead because they lied to them.

Trust me, this game does not need peoples to buy more drills. They deserved what is happening to them. They saw something big and now we are walking wallet for them. Do not buy any drills until they find another way to make money without lying to us. Make a negative review on the Steam's Payday 2 Store and show them we are angry about what they did to us.

I created an account just to rate this game. The developer had a lot of community goodwill after their first game. The second was hyped and underdelivered a little bit, but people were forgiving. They released a bunch of just okay DLC, and people were forgiving. Then the added microtransactions when they said they would never have them. And the people have had enough.

I used to really enjoy this game and even recommended it to friends. However after the last year or so, with the culmination being the micro transactions, Overkill has slowly turned what was once a great game into one that is barely worth playing. So, why a "Not recommended"?

"Crimefest" = A special event celebrating the birthday of payday. It's also kinda festival for the community of the game, coupled with some "tasks" that unlock rewards.

Nice thing you might think... but it isnt.

Crimfest 2014 ended with the "special super reward", obtained by the community for reaching the highest declared groupsize, results in ...*tension* ... *drums* ... THE RELEASE OF JOHN WICK! A promotional character. Yes. Really. That bad. Couldnt have thought they might make a greater marketing mistake anytime anymore.

    I was wrong.

Crimefest 2015! Releasing microtransactions at the first day as a reward... a r-e-w-a-r-d. I mean... dont they have some kind of marketing people? This is such a ridiculous dumb timing that i'm still hoping it is a joke. Ridiculous! This isn't something like "kicking the community in the balls"! This is more like The Flash grabs Chuck Norris, gets to highest speed ands lets Chuck kick the community in the balls! all the way shouting "overkill salutes you". Combine it with the trailer, where Vlad makes a greedy gesture while muttering about getting rich "with safes" and it leaves more then a bad taste in the mouth. This is really an elite form of dumbness for a company. After the release, they even changed the FAQ of the event because it simply showed how they lied.

Update: I wasn't able to post my review after i wrote it and went to vacation over the rest of crimefest. After getting back i read the interview with Almir Listo at reddit. After Biowares demise, another company that was close to their playerbase went insane.

You get it? Stay away from Paday 2 and Overkill Software in general. Just google em and you catch there lies.

PayDay 2 is one of the nicest surprises of the year. Overkill Software understands the atmosphere of gangster movies and wisely improves these pieces of gameplay, that might have been disappointing in the first game. The sequel is better in almost every way - you can play a thief and enjoy good character development and shooting systems. I really hope, that PayDay 3 will be even better.
