This game should be considered as a new and hotel game in the universe of Mass Effect. If you expected the same epic from this game as from the trilogy, then everything is tolerable here. The game gives respect to ME1, it is very noticeable. As the beginning of a new trilogy, it's not bad, but do not expect too much from the game to not be disappointed.

I've enjoyed my first 8 hours despite a few things here and there that detracted from the experience.

Many of the user reviewers here have made good points, but giving this game a 0 or a 1 is a bit ridiculous.

I really find people giving this game a 1-4 to be melodramatic. 1-4 should indicate a fundamentally broken game that doesn't play, or only barely plays. Andromeda is not that. Yes, it has bugs. I defend the fact that I've not finished the game by pointing out that neither have most of the 1-4 raters on here.

Now, on to the things that matter. Yes, the narrative is uneven. When it's good, it's good, when it's bad it's more mediocre than awful. Yes, the voice acting is spotty. For the most part, and for all of the main cast, it's good. For some of the side characters, it is less so. The combat is as good as it's ever been - it would be the best in the series had they not disallowed control of squadmates. The UI is abjectly terrible, and the galaxy map is overbuilt, and while pretty, makes traveling unnecessarily slow. The characters are likeable, though none quite reach the original trilogy for memorability. Overall, it's a solid but flawed experience. There's potential here, but even when the game fails to reach it, the sky is not falling like some of the folks here would suggest.

And to the reviewer who said the game is locked at 30FPS - I recommend you check your hardware, because I'm running it 60+ on ultra.

I can see myself playing this game for a long time. I love talking to people, exploring, setting up outposts, it feels like you are accomplishing something this time as opposed to just barely holding back the reapers for another week before they ultimately almost wipe out all civilization. Then there is the combat, oh boy! It is so fun! People giving the game bad reviews always say that the combat is good, so it at least deserves a 6-7 for that. The story is great so far too! Ah I'm in love, maybe It'll wear off but right now its great, don't listen to the hate. Read intelligent reviews and make your own choice based off of what is important to YOU.. Expand

its like exactly like the other mass effects. if you dont like dragon age or the other mass effects dont buy it. combat is a lot more polished but it feels nothing like a fps. the moment you use push and pull combos and send people into orbit... makes that clear.
yes the story is a bit samey as mass effect 1 2 3 but the story on all of them where a bit samey. and isnt that what you want? its what i wanted a mass effect game...
honestly i would of given it a 8-9 but with 1s dragging it down ive given it a 10. deffinetly worth the purchase.
i dont get how people can give a decent game anything below 5. might not be a 10 for some but to me a 1 is if i cant get a game running or enter a game (for honor couldnt get into a multiplayer match still gave it a 6 on the single player campaign)

This game has great story, characters, gameplay and some problems with facial animations. Obviously people writing down bad rviews either watched too many viral gifs and pictures and made their minds about this game without playing, or played only prologue. If you are fan of Mass effect or sci-fi games in general, you should buy this game.

The game does exactly what the first ME game did for me: give me a sense of curiosity and desire to keep exploring as much as possible. I do think they could have done a few things better in the technical department, but I definitely like what they did to bring back the series.

Game control and combat is familiar, key bindings match the first three games with a few extra features. The jump pack and scanner are cool. One hour in and you definitely feel the strong influence of exploration being the center point of the game, maps are not linear. I found the design of the first world to be a bit to busy for my taste, less could have been more here. After three hours I was enjoying the game play and the story started to improve. The game is not an ME3 sequel, it is a complete resign and feels like it in just about every way. I found the character dialog improved and more realistic than the paragon/renegade choices. Graphics wise I'm playing dual 1080's at 5960x1080 (perfect out of the box) and could only run High setting with FXAA and no AO, vsync enabled, to maintain 60fps. Temporal AA looked great but pushed frame rate down to 50-55fps. Expand

Edit 2: Due to BioWare's recent middle finger to the fanbase, announcing it's focus on books and multiplayer and telling the people who wanted single-player DLC and content to **** off, I will be changing all scores for my ME series reviews to 0.

Edit: Thank you for proving my point, you brigading morons.

Summary - Mass Effect: Andromeda is faithful to the original trilogy, without sacrificing any depth that comes with the monumental task before you. The combat is tight, the animations are FINE despite what the mindless haters are saying (I've yet to notice anything, really) and the worlds, people and story are as deep as you've come to expect if you're already a fan, and very much worth buying if you're new and on the fence. The graphics are absolutely mindblowing, regardless of what specs your running (mostly high w/ frame rate drops here and there). My only complaint is I don't really notice any music, which really stood out in the first 3. Overall, BUY IT, I can't say enough good things about it, and if you like a deep RPG with people to meet and places to see, you will love it.

The game takes place in 2819, 600 someodd years after the original games. In 2185, during the gulf of time between the events of Mass Effect 2 and the beginning of Mass Effect 3, The Nexus, a space station to rival the Citadel shipped off into the dark space between the Milky Way and the Andromeda galaxy millions of light years away, flanked by Arks representing the major races (Turian, Asari, Salarian and Human) You are Sara/Scott Ryder, the Daughter/Son of Pathfinder Alec Ryder, sent to find 7 golden worlds to settle. Things aren't as they seem, and **** quickly rockets in the direction of the nearest fan, is all I'll say.

The first thing you're liable to notice outside of the stellar graphics when compared to the "meh" textures in ME3 is the verticality of the gameplay and environment with the edition of jumpjets (or Biotic powers, if you spec for them) which enable for much more frenetic combat. Enemy hiding behind cover? Jump and biotic charge their asses (if Vanguard, for example) The combat is very much fast paced, compared to any previous entries.

In addition to the added versatility, they've brought back the huge honking talent trees from ME1 (Although not as gratuitous with how many levels there are) while mixing them with the branching paths introduced in ME3. Whats more is you are no longer restricted. Sure you pick a starting place, but after that, you can put points in to Tech (Overload, Incinerate, etc), Biotics (Charge, pull, etc) and Combat (Concussive shot, Omni Grenade, and weapon skills) along with the Mass Effect 3 change of a weight-based loadout. Old favorites return (I liked Incinerate and overload for utility) along with newcomers like Lance (A targeted Biotic power that you can land headshots with) and Invasion (Tech power, lowers enemy defense and deals a small bit of damage over a radius) One thing I'd register as a minor draw back is you're limited to 3 powers at once (though this is remedied by the favorites system)

To top it all off, as you invest more points, you unlock interchangeable profiles based on the original classes (Invest in Combat/Biotics to unlock vanguard, whose perks allow you to refill shields by bashing people w/ melee) and you save up to 4 favorite loadouts (3 powers and a profile) to switch to on command with the F1-F4 keys.

I won't go into terrible detail on the planet stuff there is to do, but the exploration of them (Eos, for example) is weaved into the questing experience (which is something I can't say for something like Dragon Age: Inquisition - The Fillering) and eventually, you can choose what kind of outposts to settle after you've raised the Viability. That being said, I could see how it could get boring to some.

Last I'll touch on for fear of a character limit is the people you meet. A cast as diverse as you'd expect from the easy going Liam Kosta, to an insufferable thing named Addison, showcasing most of the races I've come to expect so far, both male and female (and the first 3 games didn't really show a lot of the female's of a given species, except for Eve and Nyreen in 3) The Dialog trees can get a little boring, given how many different things you can ask each character aboard the Tempest alone, but I personally very much love to know the people I'm fighting with, and they are all truly their own people with personalities and pasts. Obligatory mention of the fact that there are a fair few romance options, no matter which gender or orientation you lean towards.

I very much want to give an honorable mention to the mindless hatebots that spurred me to write this, people who in all likelihood haven't even played the game yet, for making big ****fights out of hardly noticeable animation/facial issues (in my time, hardly noticeable, anyway. Downvote away, I know you will.

Since the official release, I've put another 10 hours into the game. It's fun, the worlds are stunning, I enjoy the combat, the "normal" difficult isn't too easy nor too hard, multiplayer can be addictive. I expect to log 300 hours into this game thanks to the amount of stuff the do and the fun factor of multiplayer. I like the story and the premise(sci-fi geek here), I even chuckle sometimes over the sarcastic dialogue options I'm given. The exploration is also pretty fun, and I really like the crafting system, it doesn't just hand you new weapons, you need to find the stuff to make them. Honestly, if proof of purchase were required to post reviews, I'd bet my life(literally, my life) that the user score wouldn't be anywhere near as low.

Now to clear up some of the blatant lies and exaggerations. The animations and dialogue aren't anywhere near as bad as some people want you to believe. It's not perfect, but I've seen worse get a pass, and the issues that there are really aren't all that common. I've purposefully watched the lips every time there's dialogue to see how it matches up, it's pretty accurate most of the time. Some of the voice actors could be better, but seeing how many voice actors there are, getting top notch actors for all of them would have been way too costly, and gamers are too spoiled to pay more than $60 for a game regardless of the cost to make it. There aren't "thousands of bugs", plus, no game is free of bugs, not a single one. It's also not locked at 30 FPS like I've seen people say. The optimization isn't bad either, most people just don't have a clue how rendering works or why some games are more demanding than others. The Nvidia game ready driver actually increased performance quite a bit. And yes, you CAN create a custom character that is very light skinned, I guess some people just haven't figured out that you have to select a white preset first, THEN go to customize. Also, there is no "SJW propaganda", if you think there is, it's all in your head. Including multiple races and cultures isn't being "politically correct", it's being factually correct. Black people are real! I promise! So are women, so are Asians, so are girls that like to keep their hair short. The inclusion of diversity isn't pandering, it's realistic...unless of course you think only white people should go to space...though I do wish there were long haired options for the men too(because how else would I recreate one of the guys from Immortal?)

Closing statement: It's trendy to hate this game and exaggerate the flaws, people don't think for themselves anymore and just jump on bandwagons, it's sad, really. Some of these reviews are clearly from people who haven't even touched the game, and I've seen some that are just copy and pasted from another review for the sake of adding another bad score. Certain groups of people want this game to fail, so they are doing whatever they can to sabotage it. Which is unfortunate for the people who actually DO enjoy the game. You're not hurting Bioware, you're not hurting EA, you're hurting your fellow gamers. You're putting the idea that it's the worst game ever in people's heads who would actually enjoy it, guess who suffers for that? Those of us who enjoy it, and want the multiplayer the grow and be able to do the missions with other people instead of sending NPCs out on them. Good job. Funny thing is...you're doing the same exact thing the "SJWs" you claim to hate do when they're upset about something, hell, you're even using some of their own tactics.

Try playing with the approach that this is a total new game, a total new story. After travelliing over 600 hundred years, in the hope of a new paradise to colonise, everything goes wrong. You then take the command of the pathfinder, and must find a plan b to save the whole colony from certain death.

There it goes. It is now about exploration, scavenging and survival. Breath-taking graphics, gameplay and animations. YES, animations. At least in 2560x1600 resolution, ultra settings and constant 60 fps. 1080ti owner here. I don't blame the people who are getting glitches in every corner of the game, but don't expect fixes in the first two days if you are running this game on a **** pc/console/video card.

The dialogues are simple, yet precise and effective. The music perfectly fit in every situations, while the voice acting is pretty solid. A whole new set of characters, that if you take time to interact and know them intimately will start growing in you. Combat is flawless, nothing to say about it. and LOL about the critics about the jet-pack, this is a sci-fiction game, it add so much to it !

So if your all about endless exploration and side quests, scavenging new discoveries and gorgeous places, get this game. You are the enemy in this new galaxy, even if you came in peace. Only the stronger will survive.

O and even for those who are actually waiting to buy this game in sale, I would advise not to. Donald trump will soon start a third world war and there will be no one left to play this jewel. Just my two cents.

Definitely not a 10/10, but not a 0/10 either. The game did not meet the hype train standard, but it is definitely not the No Man Sky shenanigans. As a casual gamer, you will definitely enjoy Mass Effect Andromeda despite all its flaw.

Don't expect this game to be Mass Effect 4. Andromeda is more like the Hobbit in the Lord of the Ring Saga. An expansion story to the trilogy that offers new exploration in the Mass Effect universe. The writing is not as strong as the main trilogy. Enemies AI are just as dumb as every other game. There are some rough edges here and there, but it is not really game breaking in my opinion. The graphic is amazing, maybe not the animation work. But many landscapes are simply breathtaking on ultra settings.

There are lots of exploration, story, and coop multiplayer. I think for $60 or less in 2017, it's worth it.

Postcard-pretty landscapes is pretty much all that there is good about Andromeda. They serve as backdrops for a boring, cliche-ridden, somewhat demented story with forgettable characters and even more forgettable missions.

Enough of the classic Mass Effect, with enough new mechanics to keep the game fresh. [Hollingworth; Issue#261, p.55]

An earnest attempt has been made to create a new identity for a series here, but the question of how to best frame Mass Effect's narrative strengths is, once again, left open. [June 2017, p.90]
