During a mission, his ship is shot down over Saraksh, a remote planet that is slowly recovering from a savage nuclear conflict. Upon recovering from the crash landing, Max finds himself in the Land of Unknown Fathers, a country ruled by a network of mind control transmissions. Max manages to destroy the center of the mind control network, which leads to several implications for the nation's inhabitants. Intent on destroying the entire race of the Land of the Fathers through warfare are three fierce and unrelenting enemies: The Khonties, Barbarians and the Insular Empire. Each race possesses and can easily develop distinguishable technologies. Heavy armor, transport and aviation units unique to each race are all represented on the battlefield. Combat takes place among 3D vivid extraterrestrial landscapes, with day and night changes affecting gameplay alongside dynamic weather conditions. A thick haze of exhaust hangs heavy over steel battle machines; the ground becomes scorched and scarred by the trademarks of tanks and other heavy vehicles; artillery fire scratches, burns and breaches heavily armored units. 1. But Galactic Assault: Prisoner of Power is certainly worth a good look for the turn-based strategy fans out there, and for those wanting something a few steps from the mainstream market.

An entertaining tactical puzzle game. If only there was more room for actual strategic manoeuvres and more alternative ways to complete the missions. [Oct 2007]
  3. A solid turn-based strategy game a notch above similar titles due to the game's presentation and the difficulty. Doesn't hurt that the visuals are nice and the gameplay is approachable too.

For it's user-friendly interface alone, Galactic Assault is a noteworthy entry in the genre and serves as a good starting point for anyone looking to cautiously dip a toe into war gaming. [Dec 2007, p.66]
  5. As for the TBS hardcore, they’ll probably indignantly object to the dumbed-down gameplay mechanics. Galactic Assault isn’t a bad game – we just don’t really know who it’s for.

Much like those random late night films you know nothing about before you watch them and end up enjoying, Galactic Assault is more fun that you'd expect although it never really ever comes close to being great.
  7. There is technically nothing wrong with Galactic Assault, it just lacks so much that it quickly becomes frustrating.

This game is a real gem for those who prefer TBS games. It's based on rather unique concept. 9 is great for this title.

Great modern-looking TBS, and the best on based on Strugatsky brothers novel!

Too bad the devs took as setting some soviet sci-book which no one knows. I'm a russian myself and haven't ever heard of this novel. Missions are too linear and graphics pretty outdated. Strangely enough, with all the complicated set of rules in this game it doesn't make a better game than Massive Assault. All in all, good game design with poor presentation. Expand
