Well its not better than FC3 or even FC4 , the game is too repetitive, the AI is really bad, the environment that many people says its beautiful is almost the same the entire game. The first 6 hours you may be having fun but then you realize that ubisoft is making the same game over and over since 2012...

Expand

He aprendido la lección.

Far cry 5 is what I consider to be a great game filled with many flaws. The AI are absolutely brain dead, which is unfortunately typical for Ubisoft titles. The AI are absolutely brain dead, which is unfortunately typical for Ubisoft titles. The gun play is solid, so many will still garner enjoyment from slaying baddies, even if they are legally retarded. The stealth is super forgiving, which kind of sucks as far as having a challenge goes, but also enables even the most clumsy of pulling off potentially gratifying stealth takeovers.

The graphics are good, but appear to have little to no improvement over Far cry 4, which I found disappointing. However, for me on a 1070 the game ran flawlessly on 1080p max settings with zero stutters or frame drop outs. The world is incredibly well done, having a very organic, life like feel that's fun to explore. Most side quests actually have engaging characters with unique story lines. Loot locations, which are essentially survivalist bunkers filled with goodies, aren't your typical go fetch this objective. They each have their own little puzzle in order to get inside which often comes with an entertaining mini-plot, which makes completing them a helluva lot more gratifying then what's oft seen in other Ubisoft titles.

The characters are - well, nuts. Their back stories are horrific and this seems to be both the explanation and justification for their heinous behavior. If you're not a fan of really dark dialogue, you're going to find it way too over the top and unpleasantly disturbing. I personally found it captivating, even if the overall plot didn't really make a whole lot of sense. Since the antagonists are bat sh1t crazy, it's understandable that their motivations don't align well with a rational reality.

What I didn't care for was the manner in which your main character interacts with the villains. Once you reach a certain point in progression, you just repeatedly get knocked out only to then awaken in the captivity of the cult king pins. This literally happens a dozen times throughout the game and gets repetitive real fast. It seems like a lazy way of progressing the story and gives the main cult leaders an unexplained air of supernatural divinity. In other words, they can do with you whatever they want, whenever they want, but this runs extremely counter to your sense of agency and objective. It's like the entire game wants to keep reminding you that there's really no good reason for you to bother trying since you're just a mere mortal playing hero at the mercy of the gods. I didn't find that narrative to be particularly satisfying, so I mainly tried to ignore it.

The endings basically reinforce this message of futility. Whereas some will find them commendable, others will find them disappointing. I was personally left with a profound sense of dissatisfaction that really took away from my overall experience of the game, but this appears to be the sentiment Ubisoft was gunning for all along anyways.

As a final note, your character doesn't talk at all. This is a trope I've disliked in games from the beginning. The Master Chief doesn't talk a whole lot, but you do have a sense of what kind of person he is. Your character in FC5 is just an empty shell, being lead along from one checkpoint to the next, doing little more than observing the show. It makes the character you're playing seem really dense to the point of mindlessness. You're just a powerless pawn doing what the game wants you to do, whether that be good for your character or not. And in the end, whatever choices you appear to have really aren't choices at all. Anarchic nihilism is at the heart of this game's soul. Which is unfortunate considering the vibrancy with which the main characters and open world have.

Ok, so I just started playing and admit I could only make it through to the first safe house with the bald man before I wanted to come start this review, I'll update it later but something already glaring in my mind I wanted to get off my chest. The graphics are pretty cool so far, and im enjoying myself..so I'll give it a 7/10 to begin with. However, as of right now the story already starts off making 0 sense. Small spoiler ahead...You start off going to arrest a guy with a federal warrant whose surrounded by a bunch of cultists with guns in a compound...you have a local sheriff with you that fills in the lead US marshal that the guy you're going to arrest is a cult leader, has heavy followers with guns, and pleads with you to reconsider as its going to be dangerous...LETS STOP RIGHT THERE. First off, you're a FEDERAL Marshal, therefor you have a FEDERAL boss that would be expecting you to check in at some point. When the local sheriff announces all these problems to you, a FEDERAL agent would def. call in backup to begin with. So the whole "nobodies coming to save you" and 4 people going in to arrest this cult leader makes 0 sense..the national guard/army/swat team would have been called in for backup. Story fails from beginning, so i'm taking off 3 ticks for that alone. I'll update this when/if I ever finish this already ridiculous story or anything else starts to deduct from my now 7/10 score. Thanks. **update** I've removed 2 bars (now 5/10) due to starting to see all the repetitive filler added for nothing other than some joker's idea of "content" or "fun". Also the enemy AI is pathetic...its literally a 0 challenge effort on the dev's part. This series needs a long break or wait 2-3 years in between and add worthwhile content. Expand

    5. all npc's when you punch them they die, why don't you make is a random generated strength that some die instantly and others are much more problem to deal with and some fall and run away, some pretend to die and then come after you, some try to grab your gun/rifle and a fight scene happens! or they come from behind (one or a group) whenever this is possible (don't be boring!!!)

    - Awsome graphics
    - Big & beautiful open world full of life
    - lots of missions & activities
    - The gameplay is solid as usual, it contains all the gameplay elements of the old far cry games with 1
or 2 new things, which is great cuz if something is good then keep it running.
    - the companions addition is great for the gameplay, u can be strategic in ur gameplay in many ways.

    Cons - minor spoilers alert!!
    - The stupidest most awful story ever in the history of far cry, or ubisoft, or videogames, or mankind.
    - The entire game & characters have the stupidest logic ever, there was many ways to solve their problem in much easier ways & end that stupid cult, but for the sake of the stupid game they decided to fight back the cult, not using a freakin plane or helicopter to flee out & call the freakin national guard. Personally, I felt putting up with all the **** the story & the character brought was un-digestible.
    - Boring main characters with no depth what so ever & easily forgettable.
    - Weak conversation that makes u detached to most of the game's characters or events.
    - The mission system is creative. However, the implementation of it is the worst!!! the entire games feels like side missions that fills boss meters to a certain degree to enter main cinematic scene or main mission three times before the boss fight.
    - once the boss meter is filled to 1/4 , 2/4, 3/4 or 4/4 u will be forced to do the main mission, regardless of where u are, with whom or what are you doing, even if u r in a freaking plane in the sky, the boss hunting team will manage to hunt u down.
-The games bosses hunts u down 10 times through the game!!!! 11 times based on ur choices, who told ubisoft that this is a good idea??? the idea that ur enemy manage to catch u 11 times where ur life is in their hands & u still manage to kill all of them (will, most of them!!) doesn't feel right at all, & makes u feel that nothing u do matters, no matter how many enemies u killed, or camps u free, ur enemies will hunt u any time they want.

    - the bosses are stupid & annoying, specially Faith!!!!. Please give me the opportunity to make the them shut up in their moments before they die, I don't want to hear an **** that I wanna kill so bad to speak his mind. & give me the opportunity to kill Faith slowly & painfully for every irritating moment she gave to me. & pls developers of the entertainment industry, stop trying to give women reasons for why they are with the bad guys, stop trying to make us sympathies with evil female characters. women can be evil too & deserve to be torn apart for what they did, so stop victimizing women! I don't want to sympathies with an evil character just because she is a woman! I want to rip them apart too & make them suffer for their bad deeds just like all other guys!!

Repetitive garbage like their last dozen games.

You'd think they'd work on making good dialogue, filling their open worlds with actual fun things to do, better stories, or even better pacing with the action after they worked out solid gunplay mechanics. Nope, not ubisoft.

Also, you can play the game stealthy, but for the major cutscenes and sequences, you will all the sudden be grabbed and shoved onto rails. Plus, the storyline is actually terrible, and the ending a huge disappointment. In summary, playing the game and doing missions and quests can be fun, but eventually you will have to complete parts of the story, and those parts of the game SUCK.

The story line is average at best, you only get to see the main bad guys/bosses in a couple of cutscenes that tell you the story and that's it.Ubisoft made a very big map with way to much repetitive missions, A lot of quest just repeat the same stuff over and over, kill something over here, get something over there, and the map is packed with enemies, you can't walk for 2 minutes or there are enemies coming for you, it's just to much.
instead they should look at games like Yakuza 6, it has a way smaller map/world, but with lots of interesting stuff to do, and also a better way of telling the story.

I am very disappointed, because almost everything else is great. I felt really relaxed when just liberating outposts, hunting and so on. I also didn't enjoy racing side missions, but there are just few of them, hopefully. It must be emphasised that graphics and audio are really awesome. Weapons customisations is also good. The worst Far Cry. I've been playing Far Cry since third part. It seems that the game goes down. There are some positive moments:
1: Aviation. I was glad to drive a plane and helicopter! it was really needed in the past.
2: Teammates. Awesome to play with them. There were no stupid natives with simple guns. Let's admit that in past parts they were cannon fodder for your enemies. 3:

3: Fishing. Aw yeah, that's really good thing. Shooting can annoy. It is really relaxing.
    4: Prepper Stashes. Interesting mini-quests.
    Negative moments:
1: Who is the main character? It seems that i'm playing for a robot without emotions, problems, his own history, type of character, thoughts. It is bot which we just control. That's awful!
2: Against whom we play?? I can't feel any emotions against! No hate, no anger. Lets compare with Far Cry 3. I hated Vaas and Hoyt. In fourth it was Yuma. Here is no one to hate.
3: Millions of stupid enemies everywhere. I can't simply drive a car because every 100 meters i am under attack. That's really annoying.
4: Sniper rilfes are awful. The problem is that they are neccesary.
5: So big map and so small number of outposts. It is interesting to take them. [Subjectively]
    Conclusion:
It is dissapointing that the great series of games is degrading. If we could sum the gameplay in Far Cry 5 (without sniper rilfes) and plot in Far Cry 3, the result would be awesome. I wish Ubisoft will make the awesome sixth part. I will wait for it

Do not purchase this game unless you do not, in to any degree whatsoever, care about the story. It is a great open-world shooter with beautiful geography. But great work by the level designers is severely diminished by the poor, shallow character-building. And I'm not even talking about the typical game journalist critique of this game, which I happen to agree with, that it has the opportunity to speak to the present political moment. I'm leaving that critique aside and only talking about the game itself here. Expand

Especially when game smashes you in the face with 30 minutes non-stop cutscene at the very start, i think i will need anger management therapy after this game.

Now the thing other people will praise you about: the combat. **** lies, it is sub-par, i repeat subpar. I have played 15+ year old fps games that felt better when shooting something. You just dont feel the reaction and consequence of firing, its weak. Enemy AI is just **** taking cover etc has absolutely has no effect on how often enemy hits you. They just periodically damage you, whether you only show a pinky or just stand still like a cabbage on a field. Combat is so horribly made, there is literally no skill involved. Being an average shooter will be only a little different than being a great shot.

There is only 1 area where game is good, that is as usual with AAA titles, the graphics. And thats how these companies lure you, in order to con you into thinking this is a beautiful great game. And it is beautiful looking, but also empty and meaningless. Save your dollars, buy some other game. Noone should play this crap. I am facepalming so hard, after playing Doom this game feels so, so bad.

The setting is finally set in an American state with everything that screams "AMERICA!". From big guns to big trucks and tractors. Finally a game in redneck country... but with a cult! The gameplay is about the same from Far Cry 4 if you played that one then don't expect too much difference in style. You could argue it is a copy and paste but every game tries to hold some signature style to feel like their own game. Honestly it does feel and play like a Far Cry and there are some differences. Especially knocking cultists with shovels. That's a keeper. The AI from what you may heard is pretty bad. There isn't really any skill but it makes sense as they are just psychotic rednecks running around with guns and trucks with guns and planes with guns. You get it. It is a militia I wouldn't expect skill except from sharpshooters or hunters. It only gets hard as they call more from their psychotic wolf pack and bring in more gun blazing cultists. Now the scenery is where it strikes gold for me. It is just wonderful to look at. Sometimes I just sit back and enjoy a cold one looking at the beautiful landscape the developers created for us as the cultists drive mad on the roads running over anything that crosses them, but I choose to see the beauty in this world. I mean once you explore it you will think "have you seen anything so full of splendor?" I haven't. Not in any Far Cry before. This game without a doubt has the best scenery this year and that is where it ends unfortunately in terms of winning any awards. The story is somewhat stale as you kill your way to finding the father instead of your son who turns out to be waaaay older than you and runs a company of robots. Anyways, I do like the way that you feel trapped and stranded, like most Far Cry games. The villian or (villians should I say) are a "family" and you follow it like a family tree; which is like a nice feel except I've seen it before in another Ubi game...Anywho the Father (Joseph Seed) is very interesting but nothing as insane like Vaas in the 3rd game. I wonder if he knows the definition of insanity... but the ending is where it is very controversial besides the whole cult thing. It is an ending you may not like and it isn't very rewarding. However when I went through it there were two endings (plus a secret one I wish I took) and I of course picked the bad ending cause who the hell picks the good? I just freaking killed half the cult like a purple god with a gold freaking gauntlet! Nothing is going to be good! Anyways it gets pretty weird pretty quick, and of course nonsensical, or at least thats how I took it when I played through it. Now I'm not going to spoil what it is because I want anybody who is reading this that hasn't played it play it because despite the similar Far Cry 4 gameplay feel, it is still a good game. What I am going to say is that the endings will result in frustration and I think it is somewhat satisfying. It leaves you wanting more and leaving with the question "What the F**k just happened?" It may not be the ending people always get in a Far Cry game but I think that is the point. It is refreshing as you leave with frustration but also being mind blown. Going in with expectations with somewhat of a reward of killing someone, oops spoilers, is what will bring you down. But there is plenty of other games with this reward so I am one of the few, maybe only, that is happy it didn't end the way we all expect in a Far Cry game and that was the point. A twist ending in a small little county in a valley full of freaking land and little civilization. Everything executed well for me except the hunting. The last thing I'll say is the hunting is very disappointing as it has changed from the previous games which is very frustrating. And a frustration that is not to be accepted with. (SPOILER) the hunting in this game shows no cutting animation like 3 or 4 or Primal. After killing the animal you wasted so much time chasing for and pressing the loot button, it leaves you with a already gutted animal. Shame. In a world full of wildlife and a setting where hunting should be priority number 1 it is very disappointing. The hunting should've been either the same or better than whatever lazy sh*t they did cause this beautiful landscape is the perfect place for hunting as the environment is very embracing of having the feel of being in the wild, more so than any other Far Cry. But oh well, maybe next time. The whole hunting aspect is the most stale part in a game where it would make sense to be the necessity of surviving and not just for money to buy stupid skins and silly redneck clothes to impress your fellow rednecks and partner. Anyways I give it a 8/10 because it still satisfies in terms of straight out action like any other Far Cry. Expand

You should only buy this game if it's under $30. It's just a reskin of FC4.

It really should have been DLC for FC4, as there are no major changes to the game itself except for the location. The graphics and gameplay are actually worse, unbelievable as that is - they've made takedown animations and fire animations noticeably worse. The theme - redneck craziness - is fun, but the "story"

The theme - redneck craziness - is fun, but the "story" is just a mess. You constantly get kidnapped when you're in the middle of doing something else, but that's not the worst part...

The worst part is the same as every other Far Cry game so far: you get brutal villains who do terrible things to you, and who you desperately want to kill. You can explode, burn and mutilate anyone else in the game, but not the boss villains. No, you always get some B.S. quicktime event where you go through a long boss-battle, and once it's played out, you get a long speech from the villain who tells you endlessly how much they hate you and how wrong you were to kill them. Then, they cough a bit and simply lay back and die quietly. It's the most unsatisfying boss deaths in the history of gaming. You never get the satisfaction of really killing them - the game does it for you through unstoppable cut-scenes. No spoilers, but I guarantee YOU WILL HATE THE ENDING. Remember, I warned you! Boycott this trash, or buy only when it's heavily discounted, or best of all, just play FC4 again. It's a much better game than this is. This is just a straight-up cash-grab.

Far Cry 5 is the first numbered game I’ve played in the series since far cry 2…
After hearing such great things about this game I thought my experience would be even better since Far Cry 5 would feel so fresh and new to me because I haven’t played 3 or 4..
I wouldn’t have that this is just more of the same kind feeling..
And despite this.. that feeling is exactly what I got here..
Far Cry 5 feels like just another bland and boring shooter…
The game takes play in a fictional hope county Montana USA
you play as your own created character out to take down Joseph Seed… A cult leader..
But to get to him in car cry fashion you have to regain control and liberate 3 different territories and take down his 3 siblings….
You can take them down in and order you’d like.. though the game suggests you start in the south and make your way up, so this is exactly what I did starting with John Seed…
And by this games roughly 28 hour long campaign you’ll understand exactly why the game suggests you start at the bottom and work your way up..
John seeds section is easily the strongest part of the game in terms of world building and level design… every area of this section of the map is memorable, it feels worth exploring for its treasures, the side quests feel worth doing…
And this is the majority of the campaign as well, taking me about 13 hours to clear, and then it’s on top faith seed which took about 10 hours to clear… the world building is miles weaker, but these 10 hours are saved by one of my favorite villains in video game history..
This was hands down my favorite chunk of the game thanks to how unique her individual missions are as you’re dealing with something called the bliss.. this causes hallucinations, and a creepily charming, seductive and hypnotic crazy girl that we’ve all dated before, and then the final 5 hours of the game is dealing with the mediocre Jacob seed section…
the world building in the north of this map is mind numbing garbage.. no heart here whatsoever…
so I’m happy it takes up so little of the campaign time…
But to get to these story missions you have to bring these characters out.. you have to cause mayhem around the world..
and this is what far cry fans love about the game…
liberating posts, destroying property, rescuing characters and animals like cheese burger the bear to call them in to help you during missions, you Can even play through the world co op with friends
and after you’ve done enough damage you’ll be marked and they will hunt you down and you then have to escape whatever scenario you find yourself in.. sadly, though there are only 3 missions for each character aside from their introduction…
    such a massive disappointment..
especially with a character such as faith seed..
it’s a shame how underused she is
I honestly would’ve preferred if she was the only character in the game, and we were constantly dealing with her tricks and seduction..
    shes so well written,
sadly this isn’t what we get… I feel that the first chunk if this game is the only section where any of this chaos causing gar cry fans enjoy is any fun
the faith seed section is saved by the character, but that’s the only redeeming quality.. the world gets more bland as the game goes on
After I cleared the first part of the map I resorted to just clearing missions with a helicopter.. that’s how little I cared to explore..
outside of the campaign there is a decently fun arcade mode where you can build your own singpleypalyer, co op, or death match maps using assets from the past far cry games and even games like assassins creed..
    plenty to get creative with..
but if you’re like me and creating the levels isn’t your thing you can just hop in to play other peoples maps or even have some decently fun competitive play with some alright maps thrown in there…
there isn’t the call of duty polish here, but I had a decent amount of fun.
Far Cry 5 has its moments of greatness despite feeling a bit lazy as it goes on.
this would’ve been a better game had it been smaller and more polished with much more narrative focus
I know Ubisoft would disagree with such a statement but at the end of the game I think we can all agree
We need a faith seed game
    I give Far Cry 5
    a 7.5/10

The story is the biggest weakness of the game. I would like to give 3 out of 10 for the story. These endings are nothing special yet quite narrow and blend. The plot of this game is not better than Far Cry 2,3, or 4. You don't expect this quality and this kind of storyline from an AAA(pricewise), trigger-happy, and run and gun( and a tiny bit of stealthy) game.

    The graphics are as good

The graphics are as good as Far Cry 5 But it requires much stronger pc to run it smoothly. Yet I felt like the map is somewhat empty. all the maps have the same repetetive random encounters, and these are not good enough. when you see one, you handle it in 5 secs and move along.

The music and songs are pretty good. But the sound effects(especially guns) are bad.

There are no unique characters compared to the prequels. Pretty much the same characters.

I would not be surprised if someone introduced that this game was released before Farcry 4.
This game has got no improvements but degeneration.

It is still a fair game for killing time.

It was reported last week (Edit: now last month) and the forum support staff claim it was passed on to the dev team. No response at all from the dev side, no fix incoming. I don't care how many people worked on this game and how much effort they expended--if you guys don't care about the players enough to fix this kind of thing ASAP, you get a 1 (Edit: now a 4, see notes below for adjustments).

Edit: I would have upgraded this to a 7 or 8 if it were fixed. But it's been weeks now and Ubi still hasn't even claimed to have a fix for it. A patch came out and very few of the big bugs people have reported were fixed. The game is broken and Ubi doesn't care. I'm leaving it as a 1.

Edit 2: Honestly, I'm not sure I'd even go as high as an 8, even without the bugs. It's just not that great a game. The story is tedious and obvious and very cowardly when it comes to dealing with the actual issues at hand in the subject matter. Horizon Zero Dawn was somewhat criticized for taking their format largely from Far Cry, but honestly, they did it far better, with a much more robust codebase, a far superior and much more detailed and moving story, and just a better experience overall. If you want content like this, but clean and good and produced by people and a company that desperately care about getting things right, play HZD instead.

Edit 3: I've finished the game. The ending is absolutely terrible. It makes you wish you hadn't bothered. And, in case you've been led to believe otherwise, there's really only one ending. There are three ways the game can end, but only one is really an ending. Don't think you might get a better one. Still, I kinda fell in love with some of the soundtrack, so I'm going to be undeservedly generous and bump this up to a 2, but only because they commissioned some really lovely music.

Edit 4: Well, it took them five weeks to do it, but they finally fixed the always-midnight bug. I'll up it to a 4. The game deserves about a 6 or 7 on its own merits, but I can't let Ubi get away with such callous disregard for the players who bought their game at launch. I suggest you do not purchase Ubisoft games at launch. You are bound to save money by waiting for a sale, and you'll skip the period in which they seemingly refuse to get off of their a**es to fix the host of bugs they thought were fine to launch with.

But my three largest complaints are save glitches, pacing and repetitiveness. Seems to be no rhyme or reason where I end up when I save. And there have been numerous times where tasks that I've completed weren't saved and I had to re-do them. During a hostage situation, I killed the same guy 3 times, saved and when I came back he was there again. Finally gave up and didn't bother.

There's no pacing to this game. You are either attacking or being attacked non-stop. I miss the undisturbed hikes or drives drives in Far Cry 3. It's like they took a map, jumbled up 10 thousand fight/task instances (whether man or animal) and just dropped them on the map.

Too much repetition. How many cars, trucks, roadblocks do you need to take out? Only to have them reappear the next time you're in the area? It's like shooting for shooting's sake.

So although not awful, this game could have been a lot better. Hopefully Ubisoft takes notice of these negative to mixed reviews and goes back to Far Cry's roots for the next game.

Out of the 4 main antagonists the one I liked the most was faith, and her corner of the world was also the one I enjoyed the most. The dreams sequences with her, and also how the world became a hallucination, was quite fun so there was some potential here. But overall the story is a big, big let down, Far Cry 3 and Vaas is still the best Far Cry villain and story arc. Expand

tl;dr: this game has, I believe, 10 or so missions where you are captured by a script and brought to a "boss". This is the worst scripting I ever encountered in a video game.
Also you are f*ed in the end no matter what you do.
If it wasn't for the retarded plot, it would be a decent shooter, although repetitive.

Stealth is no longer a main part of the game. I fell this change is for the better.
The story is quite shallow, but appealing enough to not skip cut-scenes.

I have a lot of fun, killing cultists and destroying their property. Then out of nowhere, the game ruins it with forced-cinematic that results in me getting kidnapped. This style of storytelling is tedious. I'm really not happy with this experience. I play, and when the forced event occurs, I quit playing the game for a few days.

Having played all 6 far cries (blood dragon, primal). I conclude that this is worst part by far, it has nothing new or good in it. Ghost recon Wildlands supersedes this pile in every aspect. It seems Far Cry finally followed in footsteps of Mass Effect and Assassins Creed... Shame really.

The game has its share of rivetting moments, whether reuniting with a tortured comrade after an intense fight through a bunker, watching the dog Boomer sniff the dead bodies of his "parents", or watching a chick with an attitude problem weep hysterically as she holds a dead, dorky old man in her arms.
The plot has its problems. The biggest is, unsurprisingly, that it seems completely implausible the conflict in Hope County could stay under the radar of the US government for the weeks of time the single player campaign spans, especially when the county is so full of flying machines with which anyone could easily escape to the county and contact the outside world. However, with a bit of head-canon patch-work (some of which came from a slight misunderstanding of one of the game’s controversial endings), I was able to get past this.
Another point, is the protagonist is supposed to be a Hope County Deputy, but has zero backstory there and, of course, the entire world feels new to you. It would have worked much better if the protagonist was cast as a Marshal, one of whom you work with during the game.
There are plenty of colorful characters to interact with, and when you get the leadership perk and can work with two at once, at times the chemistry feels Mass Effect worthy. The villains, on the other hand, are a mixed bag. While I found John to be compelling, charismatic, and genuinely haunting, Faith felt out of place, like she belonged in Woodstock, not a Christian cult.
Gameplay is a blast, though unfortunately there is little motive to experiment with different weapons, as every vendor sells every type of ammo. That’s a shame because Far Cry 5 has such a rich arsenal.
I’m now sad this game is over. I’ll miss you, Far Cry 5.

The gameplay can become repetitive. What is especially annoying is when you are taken several times no matter what you are doing in the game. You will be marked and randomly taken. To say something good about the gameplay is that we have great main missions with good ideas.
The characters can be great, you have a nearly clear line of good and bad. In a way the bad characters can be observed as also good, depends on how you look at it. There is always an explanation of why the characters are acting in the way they do. We have funny, serious, lovable and broken characters, a good mix.
Graphics are good and the music is just astounding, even if there are not a lot of songs.

All in all, I enjoyed the game up until the ending when I felt I did everything for nothing. That's why in my opinion it isn't serious enough. I still give 7 out of 10 because it is overall enjoyable.

I would be singing this games praise but for a few things that have turned an otherwise amazing experience completely sour. Far Cry 5 could have and should been the best of the far cry games so far but due to either sloppy and very lazy writing or horrible production it's the worst. The premise of the story is excellent but the execution of it is atrocious. I'll try very hard not to include spoilers but suffice it to say they make the protagonist and the antagonist not only impotent but stupid as well. I have never seen a story either so lazily written or so horribly rushed. It makes no logical sense. The story pins the protagonist into a no win scenario time and time again, giving the antagonist opportunity after opportunity to end the conflict. Once or twice would have been fine but it gets tedious and annoying after 20 times. Do the antagonists act on those opportunities? Take a guess. To add insult to injury it resorts to the use of deus ex machina to get him out. It reeks of rushed and cut story or amateurish writing.

The game play is standard far cry albeit without the towers. The graphics are beautiful and the setting is amazing. The music is wonderful and probably the best part of the game. All of these things add up to what should have been the best game of 2018, but with the no win scenarios every 20 minutes it ruins it.

TL;DR: They botched this either due to bad writers or a moronic production team. If you don't care about the story making no logical sense this is a great game.

No character customization made it a rather unpleasent game to play in terms of wanting to actually be that character.

Then there were the absolutely terrible boss battles .. serious let downs with repetitive QTE events and dull endurance sequences.

Now .. this is Far Cry 5 .. aaaand .. it feels pretty much uh .. the same.

As a matter of fact, i can hardly separate it from Ghost Recon Wildlands in terms of structure. A large worldmap (not near as large as Wildlands though) that is fairly pretty to look at. (again Wildlands looks better for the scenery, but in terms of detail Far Cry 5 appears to be nicer) .. both games have rather terrible AI with enemies that can easily be "trapped" at doorways . and throw themselves into a bottleneck situation in what can only be described as pure suicide.

The vehicles feel good so far, the mini-missions are standard.

Now is there anything outstanding? ... Not really. The story is OK-ish .. about on a level of a heap 80s action movie. You are good, they are bad .. go kill thousands of them, cause you are GOOD! (and not a psychopatic mass murderer at all) .. no chance to seek a diplomatic or peaceful solution (but its not that kind of game .. )

Well, at least there is a limited character customization and the player character is bland enough (in a positive way) that he/she is not a total jerk like Far Cry 3.

However .. the game lives and falls with its bad guy. And i just dont feel it. It might be kind of a ballsy move to make the bad guys white, religious right wing fundamentalists ... but they are not near as exciting as this one pirate guy from Far Cry 3 .. its actually about as bland as the bad guy(s) from Wildlands.

But the game runs well, looks pretty and offers good action game mechanics for a semi open world game on what feels like a fairly small area. Well above average, but not outstanding.

You're basically not able to hit the broad side of a barn from 100 meters away. The rounds aren't just affected by the force of gravity, but apparently also by the rotation of the earth and extreme crosswinds/mini-cyclones. The bow and arrow, on the other hand, is extremely accurate in that the arrows are only affected by gravity, which is basically linear across distance. The graphics are great on PC, and the game runs flawlessly on an i7-8700K. The world is also meticulously crafted and immersive.

The only major drawback is the frequent cutscene hijacking. They've done this in all the FarCrys, but they really laid it on thick in this one. It's pretty common to be meandering along aimlessly and then suddenly get pulled into some boring cutscene where you're forced to listen to some lengthy monologue from one of the game's villains. These will often culminate in some sort of battle royale with real or imagined persons or apparitions, respectively. It's frustrating and grating.

Also, I originally rated this game as an 8/10, but had to knock it down to a 7/10 after playing it for several more hours and experiencing the unusually and unnecessarily short campaign. The game really tries to rush you through the main story. In fact, it's the only game I've ever played where I found that I was progressing way faster than I actually thought I was (if that makes any sense at all). For example, missions don't necessarily advance the story and push you forward to "boss battles." By this I mean, merely killing NPCs advances your progress meter in a given area of the game, and once it hits a certain number, then you're cutscene hijacked to a boss battle. It doesn't take a particularly long time to fill up those progress meters, either. You could conceivably finish this game in twelve hours. The reason why this is odd is because the world is pretty big (not Witcher 3 big, but big nonetheless), so it's not clear to me why the developers wanted to "Call of Duty" the campaign length. They had plenty of digital real estate to work with, and there's a lot of side missions, so it's not like they didn't have voice actors on hand. It's like the writers and the map developers worked in completely separate installations and never communicated about their respective visions. Also, the villains and characters are basically never developed at all, and this is entirely because of the remarkably short campaign length. It's by far the shortest campaign from any of the Far Crys.

Also, I agree with others that have noted that you'll encounter enemies every 100 yards, roughly. Not so much whilst ambling about the woods, but definitely on the road way. I think if you pay an extra ten bucks for the "deluxe edition," you get a helicopter with machine guns and rockets equipped from the moment you're able to access a helicopter (which is very early on). That's not a small advantage, either. The helicopter essentially allows you to rain death down on your enemies from on high with infinite ammo. With no helicopter, you're essentially fighting them off with a musket or bow and arrow (see first paragraph). You're AI partners will come in handy - so far, I've unlocked the archer (female, can't remember name), and a grenadier named "Herk." They're both equally useful in their own right.

Anyway, I recommend the game, particularly if you've enjoyed past Far Crys.

    * Less focus on resorce gathering and animal hunting. You can still do it but you don't need it for upgrades anymore but instead use perks from challenges, Prepper Stashes etc.

    Cons:

    * The way the story is built up with having to kill 3 lieutenants by building up the resistance through quests etc. in order to get to the final guy is too similar too how Ghost Recon Wildlands is built up

    * There are way too many enemies. You cant drive for 10 seconds without running into som car, truck, plane or chopper that want to end you.

    * The AI isn't very good and when you learn how it works it just isn't very challenging anymore.

    * A bit too much freedom and sometimes it doesn't really feel like you have a clear direction of what to do next. You simply have to explore, liberate bases etc. to unlock new quests.

    Verdict:

So I didn't have any expectations for this game. I've been dissapointed by Ubisofts games more times than I can coun't. Sure, it's easy to see that this is a Ubisoft game and it shares many mechanics with other Ubisoft games like Assassins Creed and Ghost Recon Wildlands. I personally hated Wildlands as it was nothing but a huge grind and all quests, even main ones, felt like one and the same. Far Cry 5 on the other hand has much better quest design this far. I've only completed 1 of the 3 areas and hopefully the other 2 will feeel unique in terms of quests. It's far from a game of the year but I still find it enjoyable.

If you care at all about story, though, this is one of the worst experiences I've ever had in a video game. It plays more like a movie at key moments and gives you absolutely no choice in how things end. It's worth a playthrough, but I'd wait until it is deeply discounted and on sale and prepare yourself for an extremely lackluster, uninspired story. I hate saying this. Expand

Great gospel choral music and the old-school country tunes just add to the immersion.

No game's perfect, but I think Ubisoft made a decent effort with this one. Admittingly, the gunplay choices are a bit over-simplified, the bullet physics laggy at times, and the vehicle dynamics clunky; but, to be honest, it's a needle in a haystack problem; if don't go looking for it, you probably won't notice it's a big issue.

As for the plot, it is a bit far-fetched (and, at times, cringe-worthy), but hey, the game is called "Far Cry" for a reason; so don't be surprised when it's about a self-deluded hill-billy cult proclaming the post-apocalyptic testament as an excuse to takeover this sleepy rural Montana town, and no surprise, your job is to liberate it. But the great thing is you can do it in any order you want and at your pace. Word of advice: take time to explore the game, free roam across the sweeping landscapes and enjoy it; don't rush to tediously complete all the missions at once.

My two cents: It's worth it. Played 48+ hours of it. Fun solo. Fun-ner with mates in co-op (albeit, servers do drop-out at busier times like Saturday night which can be infuriating). Lots of shiggles to be had. Beautiful and wonderful open world game.

The world is a blast to run around in and the mission structure is so seamlessly good that you get caught up in just running around helping people, fishing and base jumping etc. But oh the ending(s) were SO spineless and predictable that it shaved at least 2-3 off of the score. I really hate games that let's you run free in an open world without letting you feel forced into doing stuff. This ending was just up there with Dying Light where the ending was so bad and linear that it ruined the re-playability of the game FC5's endings just felt wrong and contrived and so obvious that they would do it this way that I actually didn't want to do this last leader mission as I knew it would ruin the game. Ubisoft still doesn't understand that cutscenes are meant to give information to players. 90% of this game's cutscenes have no content, as in nothing useful is said. The characters in them simple spout the same few lines over and over with different words. This is probably meant to "build characters", but having them doing the same thing over and over, spouting nonsense, isn't what I call a good use of my time. Usually I watch all the cutscenes in a game (on the off chance there is usable information there), but in this game I just had to start bypassing them. Cutscenes in Far Cry 5 are completely useless.

    MAGIC BULLETS
I vehemently hate the person(s) who designed the marked or hunted "missions". They are the antithesis of open world and they don't even make sense in the context of the game. You are doing something (as in you have something you want to do), but then people just come up to you with magic bullets and capture you. No chance of getting away from that. In the context of the game, that would be the end of the game. Personally, I've killed thousands of those cultists. So, if they would capture me, they wouldn't let me live.

Ubisoft Games seem to all be sticking to a very strict formula these days. Whether you're playing Assassins Creed Origins, Far Cry 5 and it will probably be the same for The Crew 2 when it arrives, there's always a sense of familiarity about Ubisoft titles, more so today than years past. Leaps forward have been more controlled but there has been a refinement which has delivered vast game worlds packed with content and in the case of Assassins Creed Origins and Far Cry 5, compelling stories.

Far Cry 5 takes us to Montana and we play the part of the rookie deputy, part of a task force sent into the fictional Hope County to arrest the games bad guy Joseph Seed AKA The Father. Joseph Seed is flanked by his faithful companions and Lieutenants whom you must defeat. My personal favourite is faith but the others are likeable foes. John Seed reminds me a bit of Ryan Reynolds . The story starts off tense with the utter madness of the game being mixed in between the story line. I Enjoyed the plot and thought it was written well and well acted by the voice actors there's nothing that really stands out for me though and for that reason I can't see Far Cry 5 being remembered for it's story alone.

Luckily Far Cry 5 has an awful lot of other things going for it. The game world is beautiful and full to the brim of content. Ubisoft have done a great job recreating rural Montana and it's really surprising to see how beautiful the game looks on even the original Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Ubisoft have clearly put in a lot of work with the PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X versions of the game with the latter managing to output at native 4k although both versions give stunning crisp visuals. Even the PC version has had a lot of attention with the game looking stunning and running very smoothly.

As with most Ubisoft games Far Cry 5 offers you the chance to focus on story missions but you'll often find yourself getting distracted by one of the many side missions you can encounter along the way. The random encounters with NPCs and wildlife offer perhaps the most humorous moments though. One minute you'll be merrily navigating your way through the game and the next something bizarre and funny will unfold in front of you. The ragdoll system also provides many laughs and not once have I found myself getting frustrated or bored.

There's plenty of customisation for both weapons and your character and whilst there are micro-transactions in the game I've not found myself tempted or manipulated into purchasing anything. There are plenty of vehicles at your disposal and if you want to take a break from the madness of the game there's other activities to do too like swooping down hill sides in your wing-suit or perhaps my favourite in game pass time fishing. If you want to try something a bit more radical then there's always the Far Cry 5 Arcade mode to sink your teeth in too. Players can create their own maps and challenges that can be downloaded and played by others and this game mode will give you plenty of replayability and unadulterd fun.

Movement and gunplay is nice and sharp with decent difficulty scaling. The AI could be improved but their sometime stupid and random actions can often lead to some truly memorable and funny moments. All in all I have to say that Far Cry 5 is the best game I've played this year so far. It's not perfect and there's plenty that could be done better but there's just so much that's been refined and Ubisoft have created a game that is just so much fun to play. I have no idea where the series is going to go after this but with Far Cry 5 Ubisoft have really raised the bar. This is a game that deserves a place in your collection.

But HOW IS IT DIFFERENT THOUGH?
Well first off, no more towers, I mean, they're still in the game but you don't climb them to progress, the only time I found myself climbing towers was in certain missions when I had to disrupt a radio signal or something. Another key difference is the overall progression. Instead of progressing through story quests, in this one you can literally do whatever the hell you want and progress that way. There are three regions in this game that you have to dominate (which are significantly smaller than in the last two games), and you can progress through them by doing side quests and liberating outpost. Just as long as your doing something, your progressing through the story, which is awesome. So you just liberate outposts, do a few missions and help dudes, then once you get to a certain point fight the boss. I personally liked this approach a lot more. Another new thing is the companion system, (friends for hire or something like that), where you help somebody out, then they will stay and fight with you. Each buddy has different traits, like Nick Rye, who has a plane and can bomb dudes, or Cheeseburger, a literal grizzly bear who mauls dudes for you. The game feels like Far Cry, but at the same time, it's something new. You can also beat the game a lot faster than the previous two, taking around 25 hours compared to FC4's 50 or so hours. This may sound like a bad thing, but it keeps you from being burnt out, and after beating the game, you can go back and keep doing stuff in the world. So playing everything this game has to offer could easily get it up to 40 hours or so.
    But IS IT GOOD THOUGH?
Yes. I had a blast playing this game. The story is pretty decent, and while the villain isn't as compelling and Vaas or Pagan, Joseph Seed is still a worthy antagonist. One problem I had was that you have a silent protagonist, which isn't really bad, it just doesn't really make you feel like your character is interacting with the game world. Gameplay wise, it's also pretty good. There's tons of vehicles in this one, from trucks to planes to boats, and traversing around the world never really felt like a chore, as exploring and stumbling upon new locations was cool. The gunplay is also significantly better than previous entries, just feeling more meaty and satisfying, and requiring some amount of skill, and bullets are now projectile based. The missions in the game also have a ton of variety. While there are still plenty of outposts, the things your doing in the game world feel much more varied, like in one mission I had to kill bulls to retrieve their testicles for the "Testy Festy". Yes I am being serious. I found the little things like this to be pretty unique and an interesting change of pace. Far Cry 5 does so much better than the previous two games and I really think this was a step in the right direction for Ubisoft. Oh and I forgot to mention, it is EXTREMELY well optimized. This game runs better than Far Cry 4, and I was getting over 90 fps constantly on high settings. That doesn't mean it looks bad though, the game is beautiful, with one of the better looking environments in Ubisoft's games. Its not all sunshine and rainbows though.
    But WHAT'S WRONG WITH IT?
Well first off, while it is optimized well, the game crashed 4 times during my playthrough. Granted, 4 crashes in 30 hours isn't bad, but they all happened in actual story related moments, causing me to have to play 10 minute sections over again. This wasn't a huge deal though.
The main problem here is the terrible/unpredictable AI. The AI is absolutely retarded. The AI runs over civilians, civilians run into cars, and the enemies kept on doing weird things that threw off the gameplay. Sometimes when sneaking into outposts, the AI would randomly get spooked when I had not yet been spotted. Other times, the AI would start shooting at an oncoming car and running around, which can completely throw off your stealth run. These little things were genuinely annoying and made when they happened it was a pain in the ass. The crappy AI also made the hired guns practically useless, as they can't be stealthy and just end up running out into the open and dying. The most useful one is probably Nick, because he literally just drops a bomb on one spot, no stealth or real coordination required.
    And finally THE MULTIPLAYER
It kinda sucks, which is sad seeing how much effort Ubi put into the map creator. There is potential, it just doesn't work.
Overall, I enjoyed FC5 and would recommend it if your a fan of the series, or if your not I'd say it's worth giving a try, just beware of the AI.

    Cons:
The monologues, oh my, the monologues...
    The "story" in general
Enemies constantly spawn out of thin air behind you
Animals contantly DE-spawn when you are trying to follow them
It becomes obvious quite quickly that the world is only existing right in front of you. Turn your head for 30 seconds, then look back, and it's a roll of the dice what you'll be seeing.
    The world feels extremely UNpersistent.
The emergent gameplay is fun, but becomes stale once you realize that stuff is being thrown at you just because you are there, not because they "run into you coming from far away".

Ok, so I understand that having a completely persistent world is difficult. You'd have to track and process AI for all NPC's everywhere, all the time. It's probably not doable, especially on the consoles. But in Far Cry 5 it seems like nothing is persistent at all. Even the things you are looking at. Following a deer? You can be certain that if it goes out of sight for 1 seconds, it'll be de-spawned and your hunting skills are suddenly pretty useless then. It's basically a game of luck if you manage to keep them in sight for long enough that they won't just disappear into thin air. Same goes for enemies. You will be followed and suddenly you'll notice that they've gone quiet. Not because you defeated them, but because the game has removed them completely. It's the one thing I will say sortof ruins FC5. The lack of persistence.

In-game silver bars currency is not a problem. Some complain about it, but really, just get the double fur perk and you'll have plenty of money. It was never a problem for me and I've pretty much maxed out my character and even buy special ammo if I feel like it. You basically only need the silver bars if you want the special-skin weapons, which was never something I cared for anyway. Let me point out that these special weapons have pretty much the same stats as the none-skinned ones, so it's not a big deal to not have them.

But really, it's a fun game. Just don't expect it to be Skyrim or Witcher 3. This is the light-weight type open world game, where the world is there, but nothing is going on anywhere but right in front of you.

A great looking far cry game spoilt by forced cutscenes that are just people delivering monologues and a cynical ending.

Beautiful world, but the main protagonist keeps getting caught in the most idiotic ways. The game at moments takes completely over and doesn't care at ALL about player choice. It's an open world game, yet you're constantly herded to exact locations for extremely flimsy story reasons. Enemies/Bosses become invulrerable because of the stupid story flow. Far Cry 5 is a nice and funny FPS that you’ll enjoy most in co-op. The well-proven concept would deserve a rejuvenation and adding a story that is adequate to the rest of the game. [Issue#285]

This fresh take on the Far Cry franchise is clearly visible content-wise, but a tad more discrete on the style. If you're not bothered by the slightly repetitive formula, you'll enjoy the many strengths of this episode.

Far Cry 5 doesn’t propel the series forward — it just refines all of its elements and relegates the infamous towers to the dustbin of history. So if you‘re allergic to open worlds from Ubisoft, don’t say I didn’t warn you. But if you’re eager to meet new wacky characters, complete dozens of missions and enjoy the sights, welcome to Hope County, sinners!
