    At least you tried Bethesda..... Next time try harder though.... This game looks just as awful as fallout 4 ever did, it is extremely empty and boring as heck. I haven't been so disappointed in a game in a very long while.

    Revisted my review after several months. Even with changed it's even worse. The recent announcement of Repair kits in ATOM store only had me login just to update my comments and drop my score. Most items I've calling out below are still true. I'm a long time fan of the Fallout series and was excited to see this new online version hit the streets. I'm a long time fan of the Fallout series and was excited to see this new online version hit the streets. Watched all the videos and learned all the "Before B.E.T.A." details I could fine. I broke down and created a Metacritic account for the first time just to provide feedback as a LOT of folks are stating this game is getting negative bombed. Well - it sort of deserves some of the negative feedback based on it's $60 for a "New" game, but we got sort of the same things we had in Fallout 4 + DLC.

    I'm not giving this a high score as I feel like it's still in BETA and should have seen BETA 2 months ago to course correct all the major items they are now starting to address as targets to be completed this year.

    My major issues with the game include the following:

    1. Stash Capacity has to be my #1 issue with this game. For a game that requires you to constantly Eat, Drink, Heal, Upgrade Gear and fix your gear you would think an unlimited Stash would have been default.

    2. BUGS - lots of baddies getting head stretched out and/or can't see them. Gun shots going off and nobody is nearby. Hammering noise from certain direction of map (No matter where I go on Map).

    3. Base CAMP has major issues with blueprint storage, duplicate issues, over capacity, etc. When I'm over budget and delete several items and still can't even put a bed down - it's a big problem.

    4. Voice active by default and no Push to Talk (Coming soon), but this was mind blowing to me.

    5. Costs of repairing is not in line with the realistic number of items you find. Same is true with Vendors and CAPS not being realistically available. (I buy 200 caps of items then they have 200 more caps I can sell stuff against)

    6. Server Disconnects really punish the player in this game. If you are in the middle of a quest you come back into another server and no accomplishments. If you happen to just capture, repair and upgrade a massive resource node and Disconnect (You are going to hate this game then). I've spent time collecting materials to build out a resource base only to have a disconnect lose everything.

    7. This game - looks like Fallout 4 with updated mechanics for Events and Online play. The engine and most of the textures seem near identical to our FO4 games.

    8. Can't play with my XBOX friends (I'm on a PC) and we have tried multiple tricks and even a couple forum post tricks with no luck (maybe it's broken or maybe it's just never going to happen). Playing cross PC/Xbox with friends is about the only "Cool" thing with this right now and it's not working.

    Most of these items are negative in nature and I'm not here to just slam on the game. I think it has some great potential, but right now it's really still in BETA for those that started playing on Launch day and we really saw "Alpha v2.0" during the limited BETA periods. I'd wait at least a couple months (2019) before purchasing this game as it's got some major issues to resolve first.    … Expand

    This game is just a cash grab. I wouldnt be mad for a Fallout MMO or coop game, but there is no effort in this game. It is not worth full price, not even half. Its missing npcs, story, a decent crafting system and loot to go for.

    I have beaten every Fallout game (including Tactics and BOS) twice, I really love fallout. But I can’t support this. Not only does this not feel like a Fallout game, it’s also completely broken. The servers barely work half the time, I’m constantly getting kicked out. There’s no story or even decently entertaining quests, so there’s no point to do anything other than wander around andI have beaten every Fallout game (including Tactics and BOS) twice, I really love fallout. But I can’t support this. Not only does this not feel like a Fallout game, it’s also completely broken. The servers barely work half the time, I’m constantly getting kicked out. There’s no story or even decently entertaining quests, so there’s no point to do anything other than wander around and build stuff. The world is huge, but it’s bland, boring, and feels completely dead, despite the online function. The game somehow looks worse in parts than even New Vegas, and definitely looks worse than FO4. Mit der online Funktion hat sich Bethesda kein Gefallen getan, die Wackelpuppen haben ihren Reiz verloren( sind nun wie beliebige Stims die 1h irgendeinen Wert pushen) das V.A.T.S. ist nutzlos. Das zuhause was man sich bauen will wird nicht mehr als ein rudimentärer Schuppen dank der Begrenzung und das, was dasFür mich der schlechteste aller Fallout Teile(hab alle ausgiebig gespielt).     What backstory there is, is sparse and lacks any kind of draw.

    The introduction of the "scorched" is clearly just a case of needing an in-universe reason to include the zombies every other crafting survival game has, without actually referring to them as zombies, because they couldnt just reuse the ghouls.

    Nuke codes, on the other hand, stink of hastily bolted in end-game/raid mechanic to appease the needs of anyone who actually manages to stick with the game long enough to need an end game mechanic.

    The enemies are pretty lackluster, and boring.

    The Vats system is so watered down, its pointless. The Special system, Isnt.

    The camp system takes the FO 4 outpost system and turns it into a money sink of a portable crafting system that no one with half a brain has any reason or inclination to use.

    In a game where the greatest "risk" is loosing 10-20mins of progress to one of the games intermittent, unpredictable server hiccups, it shouldn't come as any surprise that the "reward" is similarly lackluster.

    If you're looking for a multiplayer crafting/survival game, try 7 days to die or rust for a much better experience.

    If you're looking for Fallout, this isnt it. If it wasnt for the skins, music and Bethesda's marketting budget, this would just be another in a long line of really shoddy "to avoid" early access titles that no one would bother playing any more.

    At best, its a fallout 4 expansion, and you should steer well clear till its priced accordingly.    … Expand

    Add to that limited settings to improve video performance, no mouse settings to speak of, very few other setting, some ridiculous new Bethesda launcher.... I'm over it. After about 6 hours of game play I'm done. I'm already tired of playing this game. If you were looking for the next beautifully crafted Fallout game, this isn't it. Pass on buying this game and start hoping Fallout 5 returns to the series roots.    … Expand

    In now almost 3 decades (sigh) of computer gaming, I think this is the most disapointing game ever released by a major company.
    Just read all those negatives review, this time they are relevant...
    I've underscored the game a bit considering the hype and the AAA title.
    If it was produced by some lambda company and if this game was not a sequel it would deserve a 4, maybe 5.

They think we are idiots and that we will buy anything. Vote with your wallet, and show them that we are not such easy consumer targets.

    I played Fallout 1, 2, 3, New Vegas, Fallout 4, even the terrible Fallout Brotherhood Of Steel strategy game. This game, I don't even know where to start. They took out everything that actually made Fallout games fun and then put it online. No NPC's with any kind of memorable features to them, all generic robots. They replaced all the good enemies in other games with The Scorched. So someI played Fallout 1, 2, 3, New Vegas, Fallout 4, even the terrible Fallout Brotherhood Of Steel strategy game. This game, I don't even know where to start. They took out everything that actually made Fallout games fun and then put it online. No NPC's with any kind of memorable features to them, all generic robots. They replaced all the good enemies in other games with The Scorched. So some doofus at Bethesda thought to remove all people from Fallout series, even from the enemies was a good ideal. The game is not stable, the enemies are boring and stupid (as in the AI). Todd Howard said the game would have a story and quests. The quests are extremely boring, and to even get a quest, you have to talk to a deadpan, characterless featureless robot with no personality, or get a quest from a terminal, or a random scrap of paper on the ground. Players cheated to launch nukes on the first day of the game's launch, something that was supposed to take weeks or months to do, crashing a server on day one. There is no push to talk voice communication in the game, even weeks after the launch of the first online-only Fallout game. We were promised a game that had, memorable stories and quests, that was a flat out lie. We were told the game engine was enhanced and new, also another lie, they simply built upon the Fallout 4 game engine, it is obvious just looking at the game. Grouping in the game can only be done if you can actually find a group of people willing to group up, which does not always happen. Solo play in the game is a joke as well, even though Todd Howard said you could solo play, as in ignoring the other players on the server with you, it isn't actually a feature. You can 'Solo' play in WoW but that isn't something you actually want to do, it feels the same in Fallout 76. This is the worst game Bethesda has released so far, and it is plainly obvious they released it in a fractionally finished state. Graphical bugs galore everywhere, light sources coming straight out of the ground, from inside of a tree or object instead of from the sun, or an actual light source, falling through the ground has happened numerous times as well. I truly regret buying this game as I feel as though I have been had by the E3 presentation as the game is nothing like I was told it would be. For now, I give this game 0 out of 10 in its current state.… Expand

    That is not a Fallout Universe. Gameplay and game balance are awful. Don`t think that Bethesda will concentrate to fix problems cause of old game engine, which does`t satisfy modern gamers.

    I'm not going to expand on the hundreds of bugs i have yet encountered (CAMP issues, duplicate items, weapons reload issues, vanishing items, invisible enemies and countless others which make my gaming time not fun when i have to relaunch the game every 20 minutes, or when it crashes every hour or so...).
    It is almost one month after release and most big issues are not yet corrected.

    Anyway here my pros and cons :
    Pros:
    - huge beautiful world,
    - many locations to discover,
    - new perk card system (i like the fact that the SPECIAL are again limited),
    - legendary items farming.

    Cons :
    - no npc,
    - very poor atmosphere (reading terminals and listening to holotapes is not rich world background),
    - no impact on game world at all,
    - extremely poor high level content, it is just a farming game in the end,
    - very bad UI for CAMP, even worse than in Fallout4, not designed for PC users for sure but just for console,
    - perk system (again yes, but this time because you cant choose perks you want, it is randomly given to you, you must hope you get the right card. Anyway you get access to all cards at level 50, i had to wait till this level to get some BASIC cards for my play style like for rifleman perks... this is not good at all, i want to develop a character the way i want, not thanks to random card drops!!!). Also swapping perks every 3 minutes because you need to do something or you need to use another kind of weapon is really annoying.
    - very bad player interaction (no chat, no player vendor...),
    - it feels like a Fallout 4 mod, same assets, just revamped visuals, and it is 3 years after Fallout4,
    - every items from Fallout4 and DLCs are here, makes lore not really consistent with other games, when the nuke fell just few decades ago. IE trapper armor from Far Harbor is found in appalachia.
    - no AZERTY keyboard support again in CAMP mode (was like this already in FALLOUT4), not possible to remap keys for CAMP mode, so with a french keyboard i just cant move forward or left, without switching to QWERTY everytime i want to build my camp.
    - Many bugs from Fallout4 STILL present in Fallout76, this is not acceptable at all...
    - i'm running on fiber optic internet 1gb/s, and still i get too much disconnected... some servers are laggy as hell when some others are just fine.

    But i keep playing it, level 103 at this time, i just hope most issues are going to be fixed soon. So far the road map for patches is not very promising...

    Unfortunately, even if most bugs are fixed, some core design decisions are probably not going to change so this make this Fallout quite dull in the end.

    At the time of this review, i consider that the game is still in BETA stage.

    I hope people send a clear message that this treatment of customers will not be tolerated. And the only way to get this message across to a company is their wallet. I am not sure if I will ever buy a Bethesda game again. Shame Bethesda, you sold a piece of garbage for full price and lied at E3 about everything working.

    This is unplayable. Please do not be a fool like and spend money on that. I got so many disocnects during the first day it is not even funny. Gaming companies should be held to some standard. There should be a lemon law like with cars. If would have left dealer in a brand new car and it would shut off every other time it would unacceptable I would have got my money back, however, I cannotThis is unplayable.     I've given this game a zero due to the sheer audacity of its existence. The arrogance and shamelessness of the blatant cash grab attempt. Marketing filled with lies when no effort went into this game. Meanwhile it has fully functional micro-transactions at disgusting prices. They also need punishing for coming up with the most flawed pvp system of all time.

    This game is trash, I have a gtx 1080ti, 32gb of ram, and an amd threadripper and the game has crashed on me 5 times. It looks terrible and it barely has a story. The world feels empty and barren as the only NPCs are robots. This was clearly a cash grab. It's little more than a fallout 4 multiplayer mod being sold for AAA price. Bethesda needs a new engine for starfield and the elderThis game is trash, I have a gtx 1080ti, 32gb of ram, and an amd threadripper and the game has crashed on me 5 times. It looks terrible and it barely has a story. The world feels empty and barren as the only NPCs are robots. This was clearly a cash grab. It's little more than a fallout 4 multiplayer mod being sold for AAA price.     This Game has nearly no real Content and the Content it has is mostly bad presented or is just boring. The only way to have fun with that game is when you Play with Friends in a Party Chat and just explore the World of Fallout 76 but no matter how big of an Fallout Fan you are, do not pay 60€-90€ for that Game, a good Price would be 30€. I have the Tricentennial Edition but the DLC or whatThis Game has nearly no real Content and the Content it has is mostly bad presented or is just boring. But even there, I still tried to enjoy the game, tried to forget problems and bugs, tried to play, explore and have fun. The weeks passed, the patchs, fixes and updates arrived and little changed, and I kept going but the game continue the same, nothing changed.

    Today, maybe after 100 hours since i started my journey, after trying almost everything there the game has to offer and explore every corner of the map, after have read and seen so much about this game, I think I can review it properly.
    I'm trying to ponder what I write and not do a review in fury, but so little good I have to write.
    I feel we were deceived by Bethesda, the game was not ready, and even if it transforms in the next few months Bethesda is not a small company, that may need to rush a game for financial reasons, that may not have the money or human resources to create a quality product, ready from day one. Is unacceptable and incomprehensible.

    I'm not going to talk much about the bugs, but everyone knows that many of them were already on Fallout 4 and many of them the community corrected with mods. I'm not going to talk much about server instability, crashes and technical problems. I'm not even go talk about the absurd prices on the Atomic Store.
    I only want to talk about the lack of NPCs and the game history, which are very interconnected, and which are what I miss most against the other Bethesda games. Bethesda used the justification to the lack of NPC's was something innovative, but the argument seems more like a justification for an unfinished work that no one wanted to finish. Obviously it's easier to say that is "part of the picture", that is working as intended than completing what is missing.
    And this lack of NPC's affects the story a lot, after a short time the history becomes so predictable in any quest line that I believe even Bethesda realized that and quit to continue to extend the quest lines, as we were used to on the previous Fallout games.

    Unfortunately I have to agree with many others who dislike the game, the point where it is. And recommend anyone interested in the game to try another game, and hope that someday Bethesda can deliver us what they really promised us.    … Expand

    rage quit time. this game is nothing but grind, without an interesting plot. frustrating because everything breaks, but you have a storage limit for the very stuff that will let you repair weapons and armor. all you do is walk around trying to collect resources all the while being shot at, and then.... your gun breaks. totally frustrating and buggy game

    Copy paste from Fallout 4, add in a bucketload of bugs so that it's basically unplayable, take out all the NPCs and story that made it interesting. You get Fallout 76, a boring complete waste of time. Thanks Todd for No Man Skying the Fallout series. Never buying Bethesda again.

    Right off the bat, it is a buggy and laggy mess. The only thing I found to be fun or cool about this game, was the new creatures they had introduced. I would never be able to recommend this game to anyone, if I did so, I would be lying to there face by calling it a good game. Bethesda really missed the mark with Fallout 76. I do hope that they do not release buggy unfinished games in the future.

The Fps spikes on console makes you only able to use semi-auto or slow shooting fully automatic guns.     What can I add that hasn't already been pointed out by every other person who's spent any amount of time playing the game? It's a terrible experience. The engine is no better than older Fallout games, it's full of bugs, and did not make the transition to an online game well at all. I will not be buying another Bethesda game in the foreseeable future.

    I repent it, preordering Fallout 76. Because not a month after release, you can buy it for 20 Euros. The game is a bit fun, but the bugs, the leveling system and the enemy-spawning-system annoys me. But also i give a bit hope in this game, because i trust the developing studio do make a better 76 in the future. My recommendation: Do not buy it NOW!

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I played Fallout 3, New Vegas and Fallout 4 they all had stories, some had better ones some less good ones. My point is that the "story" in Fallout 76 isn't really existing. I had no desire of following it.
    Then there are the many bugs i already had, and that even after the game finished beta which is there to find the bugs and get them out of teh game, but even after the beta ita had more bugs than Skyrim and Fallout 4 together. I liked the online feature which is the only reason I gave it any points at all but after about 20 hours of playtime I got a bug which kicked me out of every friends list and I couldn't even send my friends a friend request to get them back on my list/to get me on their friends list again. At this point I lost all hope in this game and stopped playing it after a last hour of playtime. There was no interesting story to follow without friends and there was no fun with friends.
    I think Bethesda can do much better than that, shame on you Bethesda.    … Expand

    This game is not finished. They have not implemented any gameplay features beyond killing scorched, ghouls, rats, or super mutants that each have a different number above their head. The only difference in enemies is their level. You can't use certain tire irons or baseball bats until you've grinded the game for enough weeks to surpass level 50

But having reached the endgame within a week and finding nothing more to do side from try to find legendary Items while Dupers are selling them on E-bay and other sites is beyond frustrating.     I have played through the beta and reached lvl 50, and it was really fun in the beta - lots of people, a big undiscovered location, so i just visited all locations in green and yellow zones during the beta, and usually there were people ready to tag along, but that has changed a week after release.

And oh boy i tried using voice chat to communicate, if you don't like talking to yourself - not recommended. So, since all the easy zones were completely done and i needed help with the harder ones i went to discord, but discord parties didn't prove to be efficient, cos nobody was committed enough, and parties like this last 30 min to 2 hours, usually doing nothing. So i decided to give it some time, and stopped playing for a month.

    When i have learned that a mod (a mod, carl!) for chat came out, i rushed to check if f76 is now somewhat playable. I ve been logging in for a couple of weeks to try and find someone i can finally team up with to explore those harder zones, but as it turned out, few people play f76, and even fewer use the chat mod, so i tried to do at least something in this game while i am looking for a teammate, and started building my camp anew. There were 2 players in the session, me lvl 50 and some guy lvl 120 or whatever, so while i was building this guy sneaked up on me and rezkilled until i alt+f4, my lvl 30 shotgun did him about 20% damage, and he paralyzed me with a 50% hp shot.

    Anyway. Today i was ready to try it one more time. But my fallout 76 is not launching anymore, and there is literally no help on forums or google. Google only contains posts of hatred and so on.

    And i understand those people, there is no way to leave any kind of feedback about this horrible game to anyone. It's not even on steam!

    People may have different opinions, but DO NOT TRUST ALL THOSE 10 REVIEWS, NOBODY IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD GIVE THIS A 10, EVEN A MASOCHIST PLAYING THEIR FIRST GAME IN VR.    … Expand

    Worst game of 2018. Nothing much to say.

    I've been a loyal fan of Bethesda, but this game was so bad that I had to terminate to play this game at the fourth day of B.E.T.A.

    During Beta, I encountered a huge amount of bugs, Some story Arcs had quest breaking Bugs stopping you from going further in. So i really think Bethesda needs new leadership. someone who knows when to release an Amazing product, and knows when not to spew fecal matter all over their Loyal ever growing fan-base, that's called exploitation. I    Bethesda should have postponed the release.

    I guess the company can really make an amazing Title when they were Financially facing ruin. now, not so much. Its clear from the start that this was a huge team effort, as its obvious that there was little communication between development teams.

    I can talk about graphics, performance, but i think few minutes video would show you what to expect on youtube. I spent 30 hours in the game looking for something worth the price tag, and i just couldn't find it. I think most people just wanted to play Fallout co-op with their friends. no body asked for this, no body wanted it. and they sure as hell should have added a Hardcore mod. because right now PVP is laughable. And nuke codes are all over the place. not that it matter. you will be able to rebuild any lost base without any extra cost..
    this is a survival nightmare.

    There are also social and network issues, which im going to give the benefit of the doubt. but they shouldn't have released. simple as that. this game needs at least 1 more year of development minimum... I don't even care about lack of NPCs, it just need a tonnes of polish, tonnes.

    Played in coop with my frineds. There are no story, no npcs, no dialogs... Where are main RPG elements? Just scavanging and grinding resources which became booring after few hours. Refunded.

I'm well above the minimum ratings with my rig, and while it's not super powered it shouldn't be having this kind of trouble.

    The few positives I have for it are things like the scenery which are absolutely gorgeous at times, and the music which is always a delight. I really like some of the new firearms in the game, like the new pump action shotgun is just absolutely enjoyable. But why in the good green grass of West Virginia are there pipe pistols? Why are there super mutants? I love the Brotherhood of Steel, but why have we broken lore to shoehorn them in?

    I know there are corrected lore to explain all of these things for this game, but it's just rather silly. I hope the people who like this game have a great time and enjoy what they enjoy, but it just reminds me we could have had an awesome 2-4 player co-op Fallout.    … Expand

    Let me just preface this mini review by saying I've played nearly every Bethesda game since Daggerfall and between the Fallout series and the Elder Scrolls series have claimed half of my top 10 games of all time....that being said...heres what i think if Fallout 76 so far...it DOES NOT support 21:9 aspect ratios...which for me and several others i know is already enough to not play theLet me just preface this mini review by saying I've played nearly every Bethesda game since Daggerfall and between the Fallout series and the Elder Scrolls series have claimed half of my top 10 games of all time....that being said...heres what i think if Fallout 76 so far...it DOES NOT support 21:9 aspect ratios...which for me and several others i know is already enough to not play the game, but not only does it not play in my native resolution but in my case it doesnt even stretch to fit the screen, its just plays in the corner, even if i switch to fullscreen....so just for kicks i let it play at 2560x1440 in a window in the corner...and at Ultra settings, the game looks TERRIBLE, poor textures, and blurring all over everything, especially distant objects and landscape...the graphics look like it got ported from an Xbox360....and to make matters even worse, there are very few adjustments i can make to the settings, and cant change FOV, Antialiasing, motion blur, post proccessing, lighting, shadows, (other than distance) depth of field, etc...it ligit looks looks like a straight console port with no change to anything and it assumes your only using a single 16:9 mediocre monitor....maybe they will fix all this or at least some of it in the coming days/weeks, but until then i will not play this game anymore, it hurts my damn eyes its so bad...i swear Oblivion looks as good...and at least that scales to 3440x1440...sorry Bethesda, I love you guys, but until you modernize your game/s i cant play your latest one and i wont buy any more until i know you can make a proper PC game...really sucks, i was looking forward to playing this for months on end and i even preordered the Tricentennial Edition, and i RARELY preorder games anymore....the game did seem to play fairly smoothly i will so though, and the lack of NPCs didnt really bother me, or maybe i just didnt get far enough into the game to care...it just looks like garbage in 2018 and doesnt support more modern hardware.… Expand

    I am really disappointed in this game, this is not what I was expecting from Bethesda. I really hoped for a new Skyrim... It is really sad to see that it is multiplayer only

    I actually was about to give this game another try because i felt i was to harsh to the game and should try to make the best of it and be more generous to the game than just craping all over it.

    What i discoverd instead is that due to the "damage bug" i am currently unable to even play the game properly since all enemies become suddenly invincible if i deal "too much" damage to them.     If you are on the fence then wait for Bethesda to fix Fallout 76, I mean Encumbered 76. This and the technical issues like constant server crashes are enough to make me drop the game until a couple of patches come out.

    Fallout 76 represents a big disappointment and the lowest point of the series so far. Riddled with bugs, repetitive and dull gameplay, nonexistent story and outdated graphics, it fails as a both multiplayer and singleplayer experience for fans and newcomers alike.

    Miracles do happen once in a while and No Man’s Sky proved that sometimes it is possible to get back on your feet even after a terrible failure. Right now though Fallout 76 is botched spectacularly on so many levels that even talking about this game is a waste of time. [01/2019, p.46]
