Genuinely my favorite game of all time. I won't bother to counter the meta-reviews some are partaking in - either you will enjoy this game (possibly to the extent I do, possibly less so) or you will be made incapable of doing so by an irrational bias against BioWare and it's current design idiom. In the latter case, there's nothing to be done and I won't bother arguing with zealots.

For those who aren't predisposed to despise the game, there's a great deal to enjoy here. It is absolutely true that the minor quests are of a more 'MMO-style', and whether or not that's to your taste is something you'll have to decide for yourself. I personally found them engaging enough that I completed almost all of the content the game had to offer. Moreover, these quests are a counterpoint to the grand scale of the main plotline, which contains some of the best secondary character writing I've ever seen in a game. Narratively, this game compares very well with Mass Effect 2.

The combat in this game is also enjoyable, and if you play on a higher difficult will reward care and micro-management. If you'd prefer a more 'cinematic' style of combat, dialing the difficulty down to normal will reward you.

There's little else to be said here. Give the game a go. While you may not find it as swoon-inducing as I did, I think you'll like it if you come at it with an open mind.

I cant believe how many bad user reviews it has got,its just sad how people dont even gave it a chance and its funny that some people gave it a 0 out of 10,which is just crazy, its much better than origins!
Graphics are amazing, but we all know what frostbite is capable of and they use the same vegetation engine that Avatar used called speedtree...
Sound is amazing, when you hear your first dragon scream you will be amazed how real it sounds, music is top notch!
Characters are great, every character has its own story and characteristics, but thats nothing new with bioware, they are beautifully written...
Overall 10 out of 10!Its up there with the best rpgs ever made!

I have hated all other Dragon Age games, but this one is the most amazing game I have every played in my life. The feeling of growing your empire is so satisfying, and every character feels so real and well-acted. The story and pacing is amazing, and I am enjoying the game so much.
The UI is a bit awkward, but feels the same as Mass Effect

Fantastic game and money well spent. I've put in 150 hours into this game and regret none of it. Fantastic story, which is rare this day and age. Game play was also extremely well done. Only issue I had with the game was the glitches, which is common among large scale games like Elder Scrolls and Fallout.

The inclusion of the mostly open world system was the biggest step forward for Dragon Age as a whole, finding the perfect balance between the way-too-small and repetitive map areas of DAII, and the completely open world model that would make the game quite difficult to play. It carries all of the staples of the modern polished RPG, and presents it in such a beautiful and complete experience that it is my personal Game of the Year. Bioware really has their hands on gold if they can keep this pace with the sequel.

You can craft to upgrade gear (yes, you have to collect resources and obtain recipes, which frankly got me curious about the game to begin with), you get a mount that you can upgrade with its own barding and plate gear, there's endless quests and the story lore is quite engrossing. I am completely surprised by this game. I expected more of the same console-games-applied-to-PCs as an afterthought.

Couple that with three other adventurers that you can mix and match as you discover new ones, who constantly add to the storyline with occasional dialogue with each other, and who help you as you quest, and well, this game is a delightful surprise for me. I'd highly recommend buying it. Best solo-player game I've played in ages.

I've never written a game review on MC before but I decided to create an account and write one for this game. DA Inquisition is another Bioware game I purchased that was worth it's weight in gold. I read all these bad reviews and can't help but say to myself "get a gaming controller for pc." Yes playing with mouse and keyboard is annoying and the controls are Bonky to say the least. Spend a little bit of cash to grab a PC gaming controller and this game is absolutely phenomenal. I loved DA Origins and I feel this game is equally as good if not better.

Great story, fun dialog, fun quests, great crafting, Great cut scenes, Awesome fighting, Amazing character customization and many more great components. I felt that I could really get into my character and immerse myself in a fantasy world within the dragon age universe (even more so then the previous DA's).

Bottom line: If you loved origins, you have a gaming controller or are looking to purchase one, and you're not a whinny Cheetos eating "I hate the world and everything in it" type... You'll love this game and it's Role playing elements. I'd buy it two more times over if I had to and still love it.

This game is not for those who like to rush through and shoot 'em up and get big loot rewards (although there is nice loot). It's a game for people who want to get completely engrossed with a compelling storyline, have options to craft items, decorate your palace, manipulate political intrigue and diplomacy, or even fall in love.

I have been playing this game for six hours a day for a good month now, taking my time and going through all the character interactions/dialogue and I cannot remember a time when I was so captivated by the lore and the story. This game is DEFINITELY worth the money for those who care more about complex layers of story and adventure, rather than straight first-person shooter type games. Playing this game is like reading a chapter in a favourite novel, it's a page turner. Bioware has hired some very talented writers who make the storyline so engrossing you can't wait to see what happens next. And better still, the choices you make as a player are blended seamlessly into the overall plot, regardless of what you pick.

Actual setup for gameplay comes in three choices: casual, normal and hardcore. Normal is pretty straight forward -- the fighting is fun, but not overly challenging (you have to use skills/combos to beat the monster, but I've played some games where you mercilessly wipe over and over before you finally win -- I have not experienced that in this game), casual is for those who want the story not the fighting, and have yet to try hardcore (I plan to). The maps are huge and graphically beautiful, the choice of party members diverse, the gear interesting (ties in with lore/storyline) and the choice are infinite: What path you choose ultimately affects your outcome.

The UI itself will be instantly familiar to anyone who has played an MMO. Finally a software company has given PC gamers a proper setup, rather than the afterthought it appears in most other console-heavy games -- where you have to manipulate keyboard settings to accommodate the game, rather than the other way around. Interaction is easy and innate, and that lets you get into the game quite easily and fluidly.

I bought this game a month ago, I'm still playing it loyally every single day. I'm currently at level 18 and there's still so much left to do! (Level cap is 20).

I love this game SO much I wish they'd release an expansion, or even consider making it an official MMO (it has that much content -- the only thing it's missing is a few 24-man raids and it's good to go). I think it would become a massive hit as a true MMO (you can group up with friends, but it's limited seating). Bioware, if you read this, please consider an expansion to let me keep playing my beloved character.

TDLR: This game is DEFINITELY worth the money.

(P.S. I see a lot of reviews complaining of framerate issues. I'm playing on a five year old quad and have had zero issues).

Most of the reviews focus too much on the little things that hurt their sensitive feelings. I've played TONS of mmorpg's with years of in depth gameplay and dragon age inquisition is a TON of fun for many reason. First, the breathtaking soundtrack is absolutely amazing on my 5.1 Surround sound that i feel like i entered a whole new medieval era by loading the game, feels like i'm at the movie theater. Second, The graphics graphics graphics, so much shine, sparkle, and flare every fight feels exciting, you can tell by the amazing graphics what class and role a character is without having to mouse over their icons, it's wonderful. Thirdly, the story has many twist and turns, so for you negative reviewers who can't keep up with a realistic medieval style story line which shifts with multiple running roles, you must have had a hard time reading in school. This game grips you hard and was worth every penny of mine. There is a small learning curve and i mean small that was all, once you get over the crybaby hump that all these kids are ranting about you learn there is a lot at play. Small things like treasure placement, and a easier way to loot isn't a reason to break this game down. As a mmorpg for the next gen console's and the pc it's easily carving the way for future mmorpg's and stands alone on it's own. Reviews are high because hardcore gamers look beneath the rubble exterior to find what's inside and this game has all the basis covered with a very well polished graphics, realism, and great soundtrack. Every fight feels epic as hell and intense. Turn up your volume!!!!!!!!!!!!! Expand

DA:I is better and worse than DA:O Because it's Graphically brilliant and plays brilliantly with nice Dragon fights. You have your own Castle and Troops and so own. The down part is the romance isn't as good as DA:O but much better than DA2 as you only got kissed 3 times in that.

In all honestly they want all games to be practically the same and over react if anything is slightly different. The RPG is highly endangered to this homogenization effect. For this reason Metacritic is not entirely the most reliant, because niches get attacked by the wider audience. This is a niche game, don't doubt that for a second. Bioware willingly creating niche games shows they are not nearly as lost as people like to say. The real issue is that the genre RPG should be split into more than one genre, so that people don't buy a game expecting one type of experience and are shocked to find something else. If you liked Baldur's Gate than you will appreciate this game. If you are a general fan of old school style RPG's you know by know that developers try new things with each installment. That exploration and questing is the best part of the experience. That you can't fully grasp how exceptional these games are until you've played them for 50 hours, and even then you are just barely getting started. If you are the type of person who likes to play one game for months on end, than this is the game for you. If you would rather get something down in one setting, or jump into some quick matches than this game will not please you by any means. If you get bored easily and need something shiny and new to entertain you every day and are likely to have a tantrum if you don't get it, than this is not the game for you. It will not mix well with any semblance of a casual audience. It is not a game for the impatient, but for those who like to take the scenic route. Go for skyrim or call of duty if you are looking for a more easy pick up easy put down experience. Not knocking those games, just saying they have a different design to their core. This game is meant to be experienced over many, many hours. It is meant for you to get lost in the confusion, the experience, to seek answers and discover new things. It is massive, intense, beautiful, inspiring and thoroughly immersive. A great accomplishment for bioware as a whole. Expand

Why is the average user score so low? Because in modern AAA Gaming a game is supposed to hold your hand, and spoon feed everything you need to figure out the game.

Dragon Age Inquisition does what Origins was meant to do, and goes back to the roots of CRPGs that BioWare revolutionized in the 1990s. Most people who don't like this game couldn't figure out how to get out of the Hinterlands, a massive, sprawling open-world area that introduces the game play and the plot. And the best part is, in terms of world development, it is the lamest part of the game. But it is merely an intro area, and there are 11 more like it, that all are loaded with beautiful lush environments perfectly textured on the amazing Frostbite 3 engine. You can explore every corner of Thedas, deserts, mountains, dungeons, caves, jungles, forests, river basins, coastal vistas, foothills, marshlands, etc. etc. etc.

The insurmountable amount of side-content rivals Baldur's Gate 2, though it is not as high quality, it is much higher quality than many who think it is chock full of fetch-quests, which it is. But why rate a game based on the chores that aren't required to finish it? Should I write a negative review of Assassin's Creed 2 because of the achievement to collect all 100 of those flags? No, because you don't have to do it, it's optional content. The optional, open-world areas are loaded with awesome puzzle quests, treasure hunts and companion loyalty missions that are great fun.

However this game takes the cake with its main quest. The best cast of companions I have encountered in a BioWare game since Baldur's Gate 2, and definitely the best villain I have encountered since Baldur's Gate 2 as well. Also, and this is the most important part to me, this is the best gameplay I've encountered in a BioWare game since... yes that's right, Baldur's Gate 2. This fantastic sequel was nothing if not the worthy spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate 2 that Dragon Age Origins was supposed to be. The gameplay comes damn close to being as good as Dungeons & Dragons on the infinite engine. It combines the tactical camera style and complicated levelling systems of Origins with the fast paced and immersive style of Dragon Age 2, and adds in many great new mechanics, like a crafting system that is likely the best I've ever seen in a video game.

The main quest is loaded with top-notch writing, and an excellent decision tree, this game's story is akin to Witcher 2 in that certain missions are entirely different quests altogether, depending on what decisions you made in a previous quest. The quests are all generated with a fantastic environment design, ethereal atmosphere from an amazing soundtrack and well themed sound effects and visuals. This games story missions were as immersive as the ones in Mass Effect 1 and 2.

Last but not least, the conclusion to this games' story at the end of Trespasser features jaw-dropping lore-exposition and a plot twist that gave me the same emotion feels as the ending to The Last of Us, and has me more than a little bit excited for Dragon Age 4.

    Pros:
Graphics -11/10 (DAAAYUM) the best graphics of any RPG to this day, Andromeda might have richer textures but the environment design of it and any other RPG bows to Inquisition.
Game play -10/10 Dragon Fights are as epic as they are in Baldur's Gate 2, no... they are even more epic.
Story -10/10 -I regretted a decision so badly for the first time since the first Mass Effect game.
Side content -9/10 -The only reason it's not as good as Baldur's Gate 2, but this is still the best RPG I have played in 14 years, and ranks among my 3 favorites of all time. BioWare has done it again.

    Cons:
None but the blighted opinions of nitpicking A-holes who were sad that this game didn't hold their hand through it all, this game is a true, hardcore CRPG. Witcher 3 treats you like a 5 year old and guides you all the way through white orchard. Dragon Age Inquisition is a hardcore game that assumes you are smart enough to figure out how to get past the Hinterlands, which apparently was a bold assumption given all the people who can't figure it out. That's the only reason Witcher 3 has a higher userscore.

One of the best RPG of all time. Even though there are some spots that could be improved just like any other game it's still a masterpiece unlike many try to say about Dragon Age Origins.

The game makes you aware that you matter. It is extremely easy to fall in love with both the lore, your companions, your own character that has decent customization, and the beautiful graphics itself. 10/10

Best Dragon Age so far, hands down. Pity about the naff writing. [Issue#257, p.51]

Despite numerous shortcomings, the new BioWare project is undoubtedly worth your attention. One of the best RPGs of 2014.
