What this game make perfect is that, I never thought that killing evil creatures could by that much fun. Great fps, one among the best. Kinda feel like a Wolfenstein The New Order but instead of nazzis you have hell. Variety of weapons is pretty, game is well balanced. Map design is also very good. Minus one point for repetitive feel in the end.

A culmination of the franchise combining a more intricate story ala Doom 3 and the fast paced action game play of the original. Throw in a decent and varied multiplayer experience and you have an awesome package for fans of the series and newcomers alike.

It follows the tradition of Doom, but with several upgrades. A kill'em all fiesta with weapon and armor enhancements, secret areas, collectibles. Nice graphics, music, sound. I would just like a bit more of a story, but it's... Doom.

What a bitter disappointment. I deleted the damned game half way through. ID claims they went back to the Doom roots. Bah! I played the original Doom 23 years ago and replayed it years later. But 23 years later I grew up. This game is a pile of dreck, a waste of time and money. Al you do is run and gun, with a lot of tedious annoying jumping unto and off of platforms.

The save system absolutely sucks with checkpoints instead of quick saves and reloads and hard saves, This can be very exasperating when you are engaged in a difficult part requiring perfect jumps and numerous enemies with distant checkpoints forcing you waaaay back to the previous checkpoint and starting all over. That was the final straw that caused me to joyfully dump this turkey into the trash can.

I loved Doom 3, Resurrection of Evil and Doom BFG. Very nice combinations of horror and FPS. ID should have stuck to that and improved on it but no, they came up with this borefest. Along with that stupid game, Rage, Doom 2016 will be another game I will never bother to play again. At least I finished Rage.

Mostly a good game. It was a bit tedious and repetitive toward the end. Heaps of enemies appear and then you have to kill said enemies over and over again with increasing difficulty. It felt a bit like multiplayer in single player . For what it tries to be, it is that perfectly. Very long single player campaign with fantastic art design. A lot of polish went into this. Controls responsive, Weapons feel very satisfying. Music score is a bit adolescent and could have done with some subtlety. Perfect collision detection. If you don't come expecting a cerebral, but rather a visceral, experience, you won't be disappointed.

Awesome old school style shooter with fantastic graphics and sick animations. Decent amount of replayability on harder levels. Only slight downside is one level with a bit too much platformey stuff. Besides that this game rocks! If you're an FPS fan, just buy it!

One of my favorite games of 2016. This game is spectacular. Fast-paced, brutal, gory, and it pays great homage to the original DOOM. Simply outstanding. The multiplayer might not be great, as it tries to combine the old DOOM's style with newer multiplayer elements and fails, but the single player is one of the most satisfying and fun experiences I've had in a long time.

Fun game. Blow stuff up, it goes splat.

I purchased Doom 6 months after release date, but it's still buggy. The game slows down to a crawl every 30 minutes or so. Deaths and map changes seem to cause it. I must exit game and reload to continue.

6 for the glitches; otherwise 7 or 8.

Gears of War 4.

So basicaly this game is all kill, kill, kill. Game guides you through your playthrough with green lights on every single door, whole map design is based on guiding the player to the final goal. Every map is the same.

Shortly: the SP campaign is 9/10 easily, but since MP is basically a dumpster I have to cut a piece since it's aggregated score (and I'm being very generous by cutting only one point, but why not if SP campaign is really great).

So if you like old-school shooters and don't mind paying what it costs for 12-15hour SP campaign alone (don't put hopes into MP, really) - you must play this

So if you like old-school shooters and don't mind paying what it costs for 12-15hour SP campaign alone (don't put hopes into MP, really) - you must play this game. SP campaign is absolute blast. From the very fist moment I picked it up - I was caught up in nostalgia, because they don't make such games anymore - it's just COD, COD spam every year.. The gameplay is what you would expect from DOOM - it just feels good to slay the demons. The weapon assortment is great and BFG is damn awesome and level design is excelent with many secrets to discover. The game runs just great, I hit over 100fps on everything maxed out on mid-range gpu RX470 in 1080p.

What's bad about DOOM? Well not much to be honest, if you imagine there is no MP, the only downsides are a bit clunky to read map (on levels with multiple vertical layers) and a bit uninspired weapons and armor upgrade systems.

If you are looking for old-school FPS fun - this is must buy game.

This is like Doom meets Quake meets Painkiller with nice graphics. If you like fast paced challenging old school shooters, this is as close as it gets nowadays. You won't find any "realism" (reloading, iron sights) nor any "modern" mechanics (artificial cover, regenerating health, press X to pay respects) here. There is also no meaningful story and no cliche cut-scenes every 5 steps.

Now, it does have some downsides.
    - Maps enviroment are a bit confusing, sometimes it's hard to disitnguish which room are you on.
    - Glory kills are fun to see the first time, they they only get annoying and take away from the combat itself.
    - Checkpoint saving is a TERRIBLE idea and an horrible trend. We should be able to save whenever we want to.
    - The map is kinda confused, and, worst of all it resets every time you close it, forcing you to zoom and reposition it as you need.
    - denuvo is horrible.
    - It's only on steam.

EDIT: since my save file have been corrupted while I was almost at the end, and since it is A WELL KNOWN BUG, I decided to remove 3 points from my verdict.

Technically the game reaches an extreme level of perfection in graphics and sound. The id Tech engine had really a lot of trouble with graphic card drivers in Rage and the new Wolfenstein.

Long ago there was a time when games were just about being games. An FPS was only that, an RPG was what it was and a puzzle game was a puzzle game and so on. Then along the way people wanted to throw stealth in my action games, puzzles in my shooters and lockpicking mini games in my adventure games.

Now I'm not against making gameplay more dynamic, and giving the player multiple options to solve a scenario is a good thing overall. Letting the player explore there own options and carry their game out how they want is a big strength a game CAN have. But too many games these days thrown in segments for the sake of it when it's not necessary, when it doesn't serve the narrative or when the stealth isn't done well and it's just there because.

DOOM is a throwback and a love letter to when games were simpler, more focused and when a FPS was just about killing a lot of **** The gameplay is simple and perfected, you have big guns and you kill demons. The maps give you the right amount of exploration, so there are secrets and hidden goals to find, but you can easily ignore those and just go from point A to point B killing every demon in sight. Thiss is the goal of the game, the story serves a purpose to drive the game forward but never feels like a major focus and does exactly what it needs to.

You get around 10 weapons total by the games end and most are upgrade able with 2 different mods for each gun that give it a special ability. This gives you enough freedom to define your playstyle without giving you so many options you start to wonder about "optimal builds". No nothing you upgrade can go wrong, you can always max out your other guns and you're never going to be crippled by picking one path over another, just go in and have fun. Even on the highest available difficulty before unlocking more after completion, the game is challenging without being infuriating. And dying just gives you another chance to go back and fight those demons again.

I don't think I can recommend a game more highly this year than DOOM. As a game it's flawless and succeeds at everything it tries to be good at.

DOOM.......First off. This doesn't remind me of the original DOOM at all, nor does it remind me of DOOM 2 or DOOM 3. Which is fine, it doesn't have to be like any of the other DOOM games. But i would of liked a GREAT DOOM game. This isn't a great DOOM game for me. It's lacking atmosphere, It's lacking horror, It's lacking interesting areas that keep me engaged. The original DOOM, everyDOOM.......First off. The original DOOM, every stage felt new, different. Dark and light areas would meld seamlessly. I couldnt wait to see what the next level would look like. Some bits dark as hell, some bits light. All areas in DOOM 4, feels like the area before. Every area feels like survival mode in Left 4 Dead 2 and looks almost the same. EVERY AREA FEELS THE SAME TO ME.

Believe it or not, DOOM 3 had heaps of areas that were exactly like the originals , enemies lunging at the player, out of walls, like the originals, dark areas..yes, there was DARK AREAS IN THE ORIGINAL DOOM, go back and play it, there's dark areas all through the original DOOM games, almost in every stage. The original DOOM games were survival horror action games. The growling behind walls, the limited ammo. Limited Health packs. creatures coming out of nowehre out of stone pillars or through portals. Sometimes i would almost run out of ammo and need to scurry to find bullets and medikits. Which is similar in this. But it's easier with the inclusion of health falling out of enemies. But that's ok, its helpful. That doesnt really bother me, making it super casual. So more people dont get frustrated, because they cant find a health pack or something. Just melee a demon, you no longer need health packs......

The enemies are more creative in this version, not better, just more creative than the originals and DOOM 3. DOes that make them better or more fun to kill? I'm not so sure about that. The large jumping demon in DOOM 4, i found WAY more menacing and scarier and more difficult to deal with, in DOOM 3.

    On a sidenote......

The people that think that the original DOOM games were all bright and lit up all the time. I seriously think they had the brightness turned all the way up and weren't playing it the way it was originally intended. There's a reason there's nightvision glasses in the original DOOM games. Thus they came up with the flashlight concept in DOOM3, instead of nightvision. Then ruined the great flashlight mechanic, in the stupid BFG HD edition, that made the game terrifying and then made it casual friendly, they didn't even put an option in for people that wanted to retain the original vision from John Carmack. DOOM 3 was a mix of dark stages and light stages...just like the originals. In the originals there was no health falling out of enemies, Enemies only spawned out of portals, not all around the player on every stage. In DOOM 3 SOME enemies spawned from hell and some spawned out of walls or were just walking around , like the originals. In DOOM 4 almost ALL enemies spawn around the player. Its almost like Killing floor or survival mode in Left 4 dead 2, every single area. That's not DOOM. Its a very cheap way of doing it. SPAWN enemies, rinse and repeat. Every area actually felt like the area before the last one. In DOOM 3 every area, felt new and interesting and on purpose. Having all floating rocks everywhere to me, isnt interesting level design. Its a bit irritating and annoying having to constantly jump up to areas. It's almost like a platform/parkour with a gun, game.

    Anyway.....

I dont think DOOM 4 is a bad game. Its fun, its fine, its a bit of action mixed with parkour , but It's not a great DOOM game for me. I think DOOM with the 20b Brutal mod is more fun for me than DOOM 4. If you havent played it, get the original doom games , download the brutal Doom mod and check that out, its super cool. Super bloody and just as destructive as DOOM 4. Matter of fact, if you want blood, theres more of it, in the Brutal Doom mod than DOOM 4. There's even more blood, in DOOM 3.

Do i like DOOM 4? Im not sure. I like that theres demons, they spawn and shoot and I have some cool guns and can kill a bunch of demons and chainsaw some of them in the head. But I honestly don't think I could replay this more than twice. I can replay DOOM 1,2 and Final Doom in HD 1080p with mods and DOOM 3 over and over and over and over. I think it boils down to atmosphere in both Doom 1 and Doom 2 and DOOM 3. There's more of it. The levels are more interesting and fun to navigate in teh originals, I found like I was walking around a lot doing fck all in DOOM 4 and trying to reach hard to get areas. I just overall flat out and enjoyed the originals with the brutal Doom mod and DOOM 3 more than this.

I was scared for Doom at first. I had a formulaic and hilariously terrible gameplay experience in the closed and open multiplayer betas, and I continued to have that same **** experience in the multiplayer after release. You've heard the story about how that component was farmed out to the dipsticks that make the halo multiplayer, and it shows: it's halo with doom-flavored window dressing. But the moment the game launched, I heard nothing but good things about the campaign. I watched the Game Grumps play it, tried the demo, and got the game for myself in the recent Steam summer sale.

The glowing reviews don't even do this game justice. Doom 4 is the perfect unholy marriage of everything that was once good in 90s FPS with what little is nice about modern ones, and its success is both a testament to the quality of that subgenre and a slap in the face to the military shooter I hope it will feel for some years to come. Channeling the first two Dooms with a vengeance, Doom 4 hurls you headlong into the action immediately, with brisk movement speed, no cover, no regenerating health, double jumping (eventually), no reloading, armor pickups, secret areas, powerups, the ability to carry every weapon at once and, if you're a stickler about that kind of thing, no cutscenes. It blends these with the amazing visuals you'd expect from ID's in-house engines and the modern mercy of the objective waypoint, sparing me from those long, agonizing hours of my youth spent blundering about Doom 2's infuriating mazes. New to the series also are alternate fire modes for your weapons, which replace the bland and boring iron-sight gameplay of modern FPS with Unreal Tournament-style combat options, with upgrades for these alt fire modes and "demon rune" perks that both are earned by and help you do more of the Doomy things you'd already be doing- shooting, rip and/or tearing, and finding secrets. I have heard absolute Doom purists complain about these upgrades, but I find them an enriching addition.

On that note, I must speak to the signature mechanic of the game: the glory kills. It was originally feared that these too fundamentally altered and broke up the signature gameplay of Doom, but I view it from a different angle. They are the icing on a new kind of murder cake that this game has created, and I hope other games will follow its example. This Doom is not just a sequel to Doom 1 and 2, spiritually if not directly. It is the culmination and acknowledgement of the memetic evolution of Doom and it's nameless protagonist, including the infamous Brutal Doom mod. The achievements reference everything from classic cheat codes to the doom comic to the "shoot it until it dies" protip, and the phrase "rip and tear" is even used in-game. This is the story of Doomguy as the legend he has become, a berserker-packing man-and-a-half who can literally rip demons in twain with his bare hands and just happens to like power armor, guns and chainsaws because they make his job easier. There is just enough plot and lore entries to reinforce this idea, telling a story of a lone champion's eternal vengeance.

The fact that glory kills reward you with health does indeed make the game easier, but that's because the game would be a lot harder if you didn't get health that way. You need to move fast because the demons are numerous and aggressive, and you need to carry all the guns because you actually need that much firepower to tackle everything hell throws your way. You need that armor to survive a few seconds longer, you need those upgrades and runes to give you an edge to offset the demons' numerical advantage... it all creates this gameplay loop that works incredibly smoothly. I enjoyed every moment of the campaign from beginning to end: the fights, the jumps, the secrets, and the plot, which through limited character interaction is very effective at what it does. I only hope that there are campaign add-ons in the future.

With the multiplayer as disappointing as it is, with it's stupidly low time-to-kill ratio and various trappings of the CoD/Nexon/Overwatch genre of shooter, such as instant kills, weird hitboxes and total lack of rocket jumping, I thought my experience with Doom ended when the credits rolled after the campaign. The true surprise then, was the Snapmap mode: A built-in editor that allows you to create your own maps for deathmatches as well as solo or cooperative play, using pre-made room segments to create your own maps, and items, weapons, enemies, AI directors, environmental triggers and other bits that allow you to develop your own gameplay within the confines of the game's assets. It's no true set of mod tools and obviously pales in comparison to what is possible and has been done with classic Doom and Quake, but there is some surprising depth in Snapmap and is worth a look. Importantly, it means there is a form of coop in a game that would otherwise have none.

And seriously, why do they need 30 files to save one single player campaign?!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game made me indeed remember when I was little and played the old Doom. The yellow, red and blue keys, the mazes I would get lost and the arcade pace the game goes about. The game is not very long in it's single player campaign, but as we can go back to previous stages to collect upgrades left behind, the game will have at least 15 hours of gameplay until you start doing some multiplayer.

One thing I didn't like is that at some point we get two runes, Rich gets Richer and Armored Offensive that are too much better than the others, we get almost limitless ammunition and the game lose some depth. The game has some bugs yet, it crashed with me at least once every two missions, and a lot of players have similar complaints. I'm not taking this into consideration in my evaluation, since I know it will be fixed soon, but for such an expensive game, and to some extent simple, it should not have happened.

The game kept the arcade style of the series, we aim down the sights with just a few weapons, the others have modified fire by pressing the right mouse button. The character moves fast and in this game I saw something that I never had seem before, we can finish the enemies with melee attacks. At first it seemed not such a good idea, but it doesn't hurt the rhythm of the battle at all and add more gruesomeness to the game.

If you want a terror atmosphere this game is not for you. The character is a very powerful hero, we don't feel afraid or worry about what is lurking in the darkness, the battles are very open and predictable in areas that are similar to arenas. The immense power of our hero and the great quantity of enemies that attack us make for a fast paced arcade game focused on the action, not terror.

The music is very nice, but I thought the game is a little too colorful. I'd expect something more grim and gloom. Our character never speaks, which is good, since it avoids the danger of creating a bad personality and it's easier to identify with. We deal with just two NPCs, that are machines. In short, a very nice game if you want speed and action.

The weapons are fun to use especially the chainsaw and the BFG and I really enjoy the fatality like kills when you do a certain amount of damage to a enemy. The campaign by itself is a 9.7/10 but there is the other mode..... The multiplayer. Having played the game in the alpha and the beta I was aware for a while the multiplayer was going to suck. For some reason it went for a call of duty route instead of a quake one and it makes no sense. The whole mode is bland and boring and brings nothing new to the table. This sadly brings the game down for me but in the end I will be coming back to this game not for the multiplayer but the amazing single player campaign. There is also a map maker called snapmap that works fairly well but due to the bad Multiplayer I found it kind of pointless and I didn't see a whole lot of creative levels made with it sadly. Overally Doom is a very good game but is only a proper multiplayer away from becoming another classic in ID software's library of games. 8.5/10 -Infinite Expand

It feels as faced paced as the originals did, constantly strafing, shooting, evading, circling etc.. it's pure combat.

As for performance - even on my outdated rig (alright, I have an AMD R9 290 so it's not too terrible) this game runs like a charm! Especially with the latest patch supporting the Vulkan API, I can run it on max (as far as it'll let me push it with my limited VRAM, ultra everything basically) at 1080p and it never drops below 60fps - hovers around 90-110 for the most part.

In terms of first-person shooters, those games are limited in number. The original Doom introduced the world to fast-paced carnage in the form of interactive media. Doom 2 introduced the world to multiplayer in 1994. Then over the course of the next four years the genre more or less stagnated with very minimal innovation between titles, save for some admittedly big graphical improvements. In 1998 Half Life 1 was released which revolutionized AI in video games as a whole. Enemies ran and took cover from grenades and cockroaches scattered to the corners of the room when you shined your flashlight on them. Then Half Life 2 introduced a real-time physics engine in 2004 and utilized that as a gameplay mechanic. AI was even more advanced and for the first time, it felt like the game was playing back. Not to mention, the Half Life series hugely innovated in the way of story-telling in video games. The final big innovation came with the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, when Activision nailed their multiplayer model. Since then, nearly every single first person shooter has sort of mimicked the Call of Duty franchise in order to draw sales. Modern Warfare released in 2007.

In other words, there hasn't really been any huge innovation in the first-person shooter genre in almost a decade. Sure, there were others along the way that improved on the model (namely, the Bioshock series) and yes, Wolfenstein was *great*. But this is the first time in a very, very long time that I have played a first person shooter and felt like I was getting an utterly unique experience. DOOM is so far from today's norm that it feels almost alien, even though many old school FPS fans started with DOOM.

There are bosses, secrets, upgrades, gruesome finishers, awesome enemies, a kickass soundtrack and most importantly, classic fast-paced oldschool DOOM™ carnage. There is no cover. There are no iron sights. Health does not regenerate. Reflexes separate the winners from the losers. You win by reacting, not thinking. Its **** refreshing.

10/10 Best FPS in a decade

Also acceptable to just run it in the background as you mosh.

PS: For those of you interested in multiplayer, DOOM is a *heavily* singleplayer-focused game. The multiplayer is not as good as the singleplayer. The multiplayer is decent though, and feels a LOT like unreal tournament. In other words, its oldschool DOOM multiplayer. Don't expect CoD multiplayer, its not that. It is fun for a bit though. And it doesn't feel slapped on, there is plenty of content and customization options (there are like hundreds of taunt animations, its insane). SnapMap is also cool if you're interested in making you're own maps.

Doom is a fantastic return to the series. Everything about the single player (with a few small exceptions) feels like classic doom turned to 11 and modernized. Its fast paced fun.

It's DOOM done well. There were few bosses, weapon progression was good as always. Game play became repetitive at times, little variation in maps. Story was good enough to hold your attention.

Worth playing, did most things right. Missed some key points of effort to make the game great.

It's a fast paced, adrenaline-fuelled tribute to the original Doom that is a blast to play in single player, but is let down significantly by its multiplayer component, "consolification", and severe instability on many PC builds.

The single player has almost all of the elements that made the original Doom games great, while adding a ton more content and loads of variety.

What makes this game incredible is just how fast and intense it is. There is nothing I can think of on the market that has as much pure fun factor as this game. It's challenging, it's full of secrets and upgrades, and each level has a ton of replayablity because of it. The upgrade system for your suit and weapons is extremely intutive and lets you play the game in many different ways.

If you're the type of person that's looking for a challenge, try Ultra Nightmare mode, no check points what so ever, even for a Doom vet like me this might be impossibly hard (in a good way).

The game also runs brilliantly on my system, even without SLI support at launch (only negative I can think of). I'm getting silky smooth 60 fps @ 2560x1440, and the game looks incredible. Not only that but they gave the PC users a bunch of customizations that we've all been asking for, something that I greatly appreciate.

As for the multiplayer, the default MP is pretty fun but extremely casual. What I consider to be the actual MP experience comes via SnapMap. Although it's limited to only 4 players as of writing this, the potential to make games for almost any type of person will be nearly endless. Want demon runes and cards off? No problem. Want classic Doom style maps? No problem. Want gun pick ups instead of load outs? No problem! Want co-op missions or single player like experiences? No problem! Even if you don't like the default MP you'll easily get your moneys worth out of SnapMap.

    My rig:
    Intel Core i7- 3770K 3.5 GHz
    8 GB’s of ram
    EVGA GTX 970 factory overclocked

Story: There is a portal open from hell which allows demons to pass through to the human world on Mars. You –Being the doom slayer– are tasked closing the portal and eradicating any demons that stand in your way. I’m not going to go any deeper to avoid any spoilers; but there minor plot twists in the story that make it over all serviceable. It’s not the best story but it is good enough. But then again who plays Doom for the story?

Graphics: The graphics in the game are amazing; everything from the reflection to the light FX is simply stunning. The textures are very fleshed out and top notch, there are no jagged edges and the blood effects look nice.
There are plenty of graphical setting to tinker with for you to get the best mixture of beauty and performance; overall the game is a joy to look at. Not only that, it’s not very demanding. I was able to get over 100FPS on my rig with no drops whatsoever. id software did a wonderful job with the optimization.

Sound: WOW. The audio in this game is nothing short of jaw dropping. Mick Gordon – Who also composed the soundtrack for Wolfenstein – never fails to impress. Even though I don’t listen to heavy metal music (or any type of metal/rock) I couldn’t stop myself from head-banging while in the midst of the action. It’s just spectacular.
The sound FX are splendid as well, be it the sound of the weapons (especially the heavy assault rifle and the chainsaw), the sound of the enemy demons or the surround sound system; they are all top notch.

Gameplay: Blood. Gore. Adrenaline rush. Insane fun
That sums this game up to a tee. Running around a small arena ripping through demons in the goriest ways possible never gets old. I love how the game puts emphasis on having to juggle through your weapons to find the one that best suits the current situation; you’ll have to use 3-4 different weapons in each combat scenario to make it through (on the higher difficulties, at least).
The glory kill in the game – which are ways to execute enemies after dealing enough damage to them and staggering them – are as good as advertised, especially when facing a bigger demon, it bring ‘The bigger they are, the harder they fall’ into life.
There are also power-ups that you can use and they are a ton of fun, especially the Berserk which temporarily strips you of your gun, but turns your fists to one hit kill hammers of justice.
The weapons/Praetor Suit upgrade system is simple yet robust. All the suit upgrades were helpful and only a few weapon mods felt unnecessary. There are two ways to get upgrade points for your gear: one is to kill as many demons as possible, and the second is to find secrets that are scattered all across the map, making map exploration a must if you want to get all the upgrades; which will help you enjoy the game even more and will be necessary on the higher difficulties.

Minor negatives: I did encounter some crashes while playing this game, approximately 10 throughout my entire play through, but the frequent checkpoints in the game saved me any headaches. Other than that it was a smooth experience.

Verdict: This game is a must buy for any shooter fan be it classic or modern. With a lengthy campaign, multiplayer and snap map mode; it’s well worth the $60 price tag
TL;DR if you are a shooter fan buy this game, you won’t regret it.

a game that keeps getting better the longer you play it
doom is a first person shooter where you slay demons...
And you can do this in a variety of ways
as you progress through the game you’ll unlock new weapons…
and to upgrade these weapons you have to earn upgrade points by completing in level challenges, and finding collectibles..
Once you’ve unlocked all of the mods for a weapon, to get its mastery you have to complete another challenge…
This system really had me searching for opportunities as well as forced me to use every weapon at my disposal.
There are also rune challenges in these levels that unlock a rune that give you a special perk, which can also be upgraded by completing that runes individual challenge…
Doom for the most part starts fairly average..
I wasn’t impressed with the first few hours of the game at all…
But thankfully as I progressed further and started to unlock new mods and skills and the levels actually started to stand out from the crowd I started to really enjoy my time...
I was legitimately surprised at every twist and turn this game took me in…
Dooms combat can be pretty gruesome at time especially thanks to the glory kills…
but most enemies feel way too spongy for any of this to every feel truly satisfying and the novelty of the glory kill quickly wore off.
But for the most part you’re in a way solving a puzzle, pulling switches and killing waves of demons on your way…
I did get an opportunity to play on the games highest difficulty, and unfortunately playing a level on this difficulty is required for a trophy
and I say unfortunately because it’s not fun…
it really highlights the cheapness certain enemies have..
You’ll die in this mode with 1 hit easily…
Which isn’t too big of a deal if certain enemies weren’t so cheap with their attacks... mainly the demons that throw fire balls… they have extreme accuracy and can climb walls…
you literally wont see your death coming..
And if you die here you start the level all the way from the start.
    It’s just not worth it…
There is a multiplayer mode here too
6 different match types that you would recognize from most other first person shooters like team death math or domination with their own doom twist for example instead of kill confirmed you harvest souls instead of collect dog tags
You unlock weapons abilities and demons as you level which can honestly throw the balance of a game out the windows as the higher level players who are already at the time in advantage also have the stronger loadouts and demon spawn ins…
luckily the demons don’t feel all too over powered.. But they are definitely fun to play as and worth the effort to try and grab the demon spawn stone before someone else does...
The doom multiplayer is super addictive and rivals the likes of killzone 2 as one of my most favorite multiplayer modes in a game…I can easily see players sticking around until the next doom comes out
there’s also a super deep snap map mode here that lets you create scenarios, edit ai, sound lighting, spawn points and connect different logic chains for a nearly endless amount of scenarios
If you don’t feel like creating, you van also hop into other peoples published maps.
    Doom is a great game
    There’s something here for everyone...
a 12 hour single player campaign, a varied and addictive multiplayer, and a snap map mode to get your Picasso on.
    I give doom an 8.9/10

Basically run all the time. In this respect it has gone back to the original Doom games.

I have played Doom three times in thirteen days! However I really don't really know what score to rate Doom 2016.

It's a bit complicated why I am undecided. If you search out every secret you get plenty of upgrades, you do reasonably well. However it forces this. Basically if you don't search out the secrets which earn upgrade points you get battered. The battering comes in the form of many deaths and the fact that Doom has sold-out to checkpoints. Sending you maybe 20, 40, or 60 demons to kill again.

Gitgud plays a part in this game. My second playing of the campaign was better, because I had adjusted finally to the pace. However, without those upgrades it's still hellish hard.

My first playthough I only found about maybe 40% of the secrets and I was distraught with Doom. I died ten, twenty, thirty times at many checkpoints. I was feeling, "What is the point?" It was battering me and I had nothing to fight back with. I missed the graphics because I was so distressed. When I cleared an area I did not look around much. I wanted to get out before another demon spawned and killed me.

However on second playthrough, experience and secrets, and it was a gun-toting blast. I got the graphics settings looking better by adding 'nightmare' textures. (Not adding nightmare shadows because the GTX 980 can't handle that at 60fps.) I used FXAA(1TX) and it really cleaned up the image and it looked phenomenal. Parts like the science labs looked stunning.

On this second play-through I would rate it 9/10 but for a few aspects. The designers made mistakes. Like early on there are parts of mining areas on the Mars surface, that are not connected. You had to jump to get from one place to another. Why? There would be roads and bridges. ...There were Argent Energy upgrade cells in Hell. However they were placed thoughout the Mars facility by Samuel Hayden.

Other aspects that annoyed me were:
Doom 2016 was just an arena shooter
Scaling the Tower was terrifying as an acrophobic (scared of heights)
Supplies flying at you from slain enemies is OK in a sword and sorcery game. Not in our good old favourite shooter.
The worst offence off all was this.........Doom has been changed from a shooter to part street-fighter. The melee finishes are forced on the player to gain supplies of health etc. Gone is the satisfaction of 100% putting your enemies down with guns. Now it's about 38% melee finishes. Much moreore if you are struggling with difficulty settings.

The positives are that the graphics are stunning, except for there being too much orange. The guns are perfect. The enemies of old are cool, though I hate the pinkies screeching pig noises.

How do I rate it: anything from 6 -- to 9.2---- out of ten.

I'll just pro and con this instead of writing a novel like the polemics:

    Pros:
    1. Spirit of the Doom franchise was given great attention; monsters from the franchise appear in refreshing new ways.

    2. Single player maps have what made the previous games great (except for Doom 3 maybe): multi dimensional mazes with lots of secrets and exploration. I don't understand why some think this game is linear.

    3. Fantastic graphics, especially if you can max it out.

    4. Great audio with a heavy metal sound.

    5. Weapons and armor upgrades added a lot to this game. Intersting approach to the chainsaw. BFG remains the same!

    6. Game play is very fun. Those complaining about being locked in areas then fighting an arena style brawl with demons are showing utter disregard for the previous Doom titles.

    7. Story was tenuous but there; I don't know why some people are expecting a saga like the Elder Scrolls games, it's **** DOOM!

    Cons:

    1. Single player campaign is very short, but in line with the length of other first person shooters.

    2. Multiplayer is pretty basic with few custom options, but Bethesda/Id says they're working on this. Not really interested in MP anyway. The campaign is the showcase.

    3. Though the audio was good, I think they missed some opportunities to rehash the music from the old games.

    4. I really dislike the checkpoint style game saving. Not because I want to save scum so desperately, but because time between checkpoints is pretty long especially if you're trying to clear all the secrets.

    5. Points of no return: WHY? I hate this the most about the game. Don't jump down any holes or manually lift any doors unless you've cleared all the secrets first!

All in all, a game worthy of the Doom moniker. Certainly better than Doom 3.

It fits the game and its interesting, I expected it to be **** but i was surprised.

Snapmap is excellent, you will put hours and hours into it because is fun just to solve the logic problems, but it have some stupid limits that you have to know before hand, or you will knock yourself into a wall after creating a map and your whole idea doesn't work because one of those limits.

If you love the original dooms, go ahead and buy it, just the campaign is worth the money alone, but play on ULTRA VIOLENCE or NIGHTMARE.

Even though arena-like style of gameplay may get boring at times, playing on ultra-violence still brings a lot of fun since movement and weapon game mechanics are done well and the game gives you everything you need to win.

A pitiful excuse for a DOOM game and a game in general. First off let's talk about the gameplay, your character moves so slow compared to the original even when you "sprint" as they like to call it you move at a maximum of one mile per hour. This is especially bad on the PS4 and Xbone versions since they run at a max of 15fps. You may be saying "I played it bro seems pretty fast to me lmaoA pitiful excuse for a DOOM game and a game in general. DOOM is know for it's fast paced and challenging gameplay which are 2 things this game lacks in a major way. You can beat the campaign in less than an hour if you're even halfway competent thanks to the incredibly OP chainsaw and its weapon drops. I'm on the edge of my seat just thinking about the tensionless "gameplay" in this "game". Did I mention the slapped together multiplayer mode yet? The less said about that the better yowzers. So due to all of that and the fact that when I returned this to gamestop I saw a line of people doing the same this is probably the end of DOOM and hopefully id Software aswell. I can't in good conscience give this more than a 0.

The most fun I've had in an FPS in over a decade. True to the feel of the originals, non-stop action and many enhancements to make the game even more interesting. Snapmap brings a whole new dimension to modding aspect in that it is accessible to ALL players and not just programmers (although I wholeheartedly agree that an SDK should be eventually provided for proper modding). The (very) few drawbacks of the game are not enough to remove even one full point from this review score. Rip and Tear! Expand

I have seen a lot of people claiming that there is a major lack of variety and that the game is painfully repetative...in my opinion...they're kinda wrong.

Look, its 2016. There's been a truck load (like...LITERALLY a truck load) of FPS shooters flood the market over the last few decades and this means that if you give your game a first person perspective, you straight away face immense competetion and are already slightly derirative. So its refreshing to see a company (the company that kind of invented the whole FPS genre no less) take a MASSIVE step into the past and just plain ignore all of the conventions and conveniences that we have in modern day FPS games.

    Reload button? No chance!
    Sprint button? Pish!
Hide until your health recovers? Pitiful!
Aim down Sights? Ha! Actually...alright you can have a little bit of that

I can totally respect how this would make the game feel light on content and repetative, but for me, it made the game slicker, streamlined and ultimately more dangerous. Instead of plodding from poorly conceived cover point to cover point, you frantically thrash around smashing, slicing, shooting, exploding and ripping demons to pieces. Sometimes you get through a frenetic, violent encounter by the skin of your teeth, sometimes you style it out like a motherfudging G and feel like a Boss for doing so.

Doom is fun. Doom is fresh, Doom is MENTAL.

There's a single player campaign and even here it feels fresh because ID software are almost openly mocking the idea of having a story. Yeah go here and do that, and you do go there and do that, but Mr Doom Marine cares not for such feeble motives, he is there to kick ass and chew bubblegum...and that mofo is ALL outta gum.

Multiplayer manages to maintain the frentic pace of the single player and is therefore almost equally satisfying, although having an above average internet connection speed is of paramount importance. Snap map has the potential to give Doom an almost indefinite replayability factor if it can attract a big enough community, dont hate on the weaker maps, support them and foster a constructive environment and great things could happen.

I really enjoyed Doom, think its a fantastic callback to what made the FPS genre great in the first place. I can understand why some people feel let down, the lack of survival horror elements that Doom 3 introduced is a shame, but in all honesty Doom was never a survival horror game. The streamlined gameplay might feel a little lacking to those who are used to killstreaks and modifiers, but theres still plenty of room for strategy and ingenuinty in here.

    Very happy with my purchase!

This doesn't happen to me very often and in my opinion this game is worthy of the GOTD title (game of the decade). I have pure fun in this single player wise. I still need to play some more multi player and snapmap, but I had great fun already. This game has lots of potential and I really hope we get an expansion pack with new campaign! Expand

Yes, DOOM has multiplayer, but it's totally optional, and secondary to the fantastic singleplayer experience.

The guns all feel like they belong, and not one goes unused, unlike a lot of shooters.

The implementation of equipment is second to none, and can save your arse when used at the right moment.

This is, by far, the best (and most fun) game i've played this year, and the best FPS i've played in probably the past 5.

So you have to life with a generic "Hell released on Mars" Story.
Its fast, loud and shiny !
If you enjoined the new Wolfenstein-Games, this might be the right thing for you, but its much faster and with more gore and no sneaking. Rip and tear attidtude of the ingame character all the time, i love that guy.

This is a good fps , there are variety of daemons, weapons and those classic doom levels. My only complain are the levels that are some kind of repetitive. But overall it is an entertaining first person shooter.

If you miss Doom, you miss what I anticipate to be one of two most important first person shooters of 2016. The classic returns in great shape, with all its vital elements intact. Give the campaign some time to pick up speed and it will pump your veins full of adrenaline. [07/2016, p.38]
