Doom is a tale of two very different shooters (and one quirky creation tool). The single-player campaign's reverent worship of the series' roots results in an old-school run-and-gun shooter which feels like imitation Doom, a cover of an old hit which nails all the right power chords but isn't exactly transformative. The multiplayer's attempts to borrow from the new to reinvigorate the old results in an experience which won't satisfy either school of thought. SnapMap, meanwhile, is a blend of weird and simple and endearing.

DOOM is a partial success : the singleplayer campagn is a glorious tribute to the first Doom, but the multiplayer is... boring.

A tribute to Doom that leaps to great heights, but fails to fully stick the landing. [Issue#252, p.60]

The best sign that Doom was doing something right came at the end of many of the game's firefights. Only when the driving music faded away and the "checkpoint reached" message appeared would I realize my entire body had been clenched up with the nonstop, adrenaline-soaked tension of it all for the last few minutes. I'll be damned if it didn't take me right back to playing Doom on that old 486 in my parents' living room decades ago. [Single-Player review]

There is no other game I can turn to that will let me leap about a roomful of demons, firing a satisfyingly chunky assault rifle into the throng as beasts disintegrate into a bloody pulp. It sets my heart racing in a way that not even the original Doom managed.

It's not a guarantee that a game will be bad when reviewers don't get it early — Blizzard notoriously doesn't send out review copies of its games in advance, for example — but it's usually a bad sign. With that in mind, I'm just going to say it: I don't know why Bethesda didn't want reviewers playing the new Doom early, because about halfway through, it's really not bad at all. In fact, it's occasionally pretty good, at least so far.
  4. Propulsive, thrilling and breathless, DOOM is the triumph I never expected. I just can’t see there being a better shooter this year, I really can’t. [Single-Player review]

Doom is excellent. Im not gonna lie here, my initial expectations were low, I expected a slow pace modern wannabe shooter consistent with theDoom is excellent. Im not gonna lie here, my initial expectations were low, I expected a slow pace modern wannabe shooter consistent with the quality of games ID put up recently. I was blown away, I am a massive fan of the series and saw that this doom was everything I wanted. It is fast-paced, gore filled fun that only doom can deliver. My original guess was that it was going to pander to console players by making it slower ( I thought this after I saw the scroll wheel that slowed down game play.) It has been a long while since I have seen a shooter with intelligent map design, design which rewards players for playing the game at a faster pace, in fact I rarely found myself stopping in between combat, if at all. There is secrets galore in this game to. Not only that but the game itself is absolutely beautiful. From the large bosses to the small imps for pistol fodder every part of the game does not lack in design, This game reinvigorated my faith in ID. The online has obviously improved since the beta (Its great, i didn't get the chance to play the beta but I heard complaints) With a larger selections of weapons. In fact I see so many modding possibilities for the multiplayer on PC. After playing leagues and leagues of modern shooters this is the most refreshing multiplayer I have played in a while and will suck in hours and hours of my time I haven't really played around with snap map yet, but Ill be looking forward to it!. Anyway this reinvigorated the franchise and will forever be known as a classic, Amazing job id, i look forward for more Full Review »

Welcome to doom 2016, a game with a bit more than decent artstyle and a very reptitive gameplay.
I'll point out some general things:

1.repetition - the game is painfully repetitive. you'd be doing the same things over and over again more than you asked for too much too early.

2.plot - As you would expect, the story is there just as an excuse for the game to have some story. nothing really interesting about the plot.

3.artstyle - the artstyle is almost great and fits to doom's hellish theme, although when you kill demons they drop candy crush items which bugged me

4.cashgrab - as soon as you click on the multiplayer mod you'd get an ad on the menu to buy more stuff for you experience.

5.graphics - overall nice looking game with everything on ultra but even then you'd notice low res textures.

6.sound - almost good but not quite there in my personal opinion.

overall its a decent game but wasn't my cup of tea. I sent a refund request.

If you like fast paced challenging old school shooters, this is as close as it gets nowadays. You won't find any "realism" (reloading, iron sights) nor any "modern" mechanics (artificial cover, regenerating health, press X to pay respects) here. There is also no meaningful story and no cliche cut-scenes every 5 steps. Just pure gameplay. Which is so damn REFRESHING. Full Review »
