This patch is an awful attempt to balance the game by making everything less fun and take longer. And still no quality of life upgrades that all exist in the previous game, D3. Were no lessons learned?

The first major patch and season of the game did not address the vast majority of player concerns and feedback, prompting well-deserved backlash from the community. I am currently scoring this game 2/10 due to the smoother launch than previous Diablo titles and some novel ideas, but at the moment the execution is too poor to give them a higher rating. Expand

With a rough start, the game felt tedious, to easy, and to grindy even for an ARPG, and most imporantly felt unfinished. But I got my character up to 100 and maxed out my glyphs. This was becuse I had hope, they sounded promising with a large patch coming for season 1.

For a AAA game I would have rated it about a 5, but with the latest patch, the season 1 patch, fixed nothing mentioned above, nerfed the weakest class and made the game even more tedious I can not give it more than a two. And that is mostly because of epic cutscenes..

Like with all Blizzard titles, here are devs who ignore all the feedback. They would rather see the game fail (which it will if S1 first impressions are terrible), than drop the arrogance and pride and make the experience fun and memorable. It's INSANE how they ruin all their games with these selfish and short-sighted dev teams.

The social features are difficult if not impossible to use, making the "MMO" portion of the game a guise for always online features. Personally I haven't had a single social interaction from the game alone.

And it's an ARPG where the developers are slowing down an already slow game, by keeping mob density low, nerfing multiplicative damage, nerfing item drop rates, nerfing currency drop rates and nerfing overall XP.

So it's a dead world, singleplayer, slog of an RPG, right now.

All this is made worse with a terrible user interface, memory leak issues, and a development team that ran out of content at like level 70. There is nothing to do from 70 to 100.

In addition, Season 1 was supposed to introduce something innovative and they just reused a mechanic from Diablo 3. The developers are trying to artificially slow leveling so people don't ever reach 70+.

    It's a disgrace.

The major problem I have here is their pre-season 1 patch. Someone that's calling the shots has a MAJOR obsession with creating a slow paced uninteresting slog of a game that will trap players into a monotonous long term unrewarding grind to keep player numbers high for a long as possible.

I cannot get behind the current "vision", they are out of touch with what is fun in an ARPG. Speed, damage, defence, good loot, and happiness are not allowed.

Well, the recent patch notes, patch 1.1, has shown the players that this diablo 4 is dead in the water. They nerfed armor, damage resistance, skill cooldown, some of the characters have been nerfed into the floor, they majorly nerfed experience gain from all sources, they made their events harder to accomplish while simultaneously making them less rewarding, they have blatantly ignored community feedback and made the worse decisions possible for the game in order to, hypothetically, push players toward their new season that is releasing. Diablo 4 is officially a cash grab and it's not gonna make nearly as much money as Diablo Immortal has. So not only did they fail us, the community, they failed themselves. 0 out of 10. Expand

If you want to do high level content you MUST use 1 or 2 working metabuilds and forget about character diversification. If you want to have an ALT character, forget about it, since all the stash space is almost not enough for a single character, and if you want to find a specific item in your stash good luck, since there is no filter to help you find it, you will have to look one by one to find what you are looking for. And if you want to respec your character there is 2 problems: You need to unlearn one by one all the hundreds of paragon points and have millions of gold to do it. You cant save multiple builds like in Diablo 3 or WOW. On top of that the game is EXTREMELLY CLAUSTOPHOBIC! The zoom is at least two times closer than previous games, you barelly can appreciate the landscape since all you can see is 5 yards away from your character... Want to have a ranged character? Good luck having to always play in melee range since you cant see enemies until they started attacking you... Expand

This game had a lot of potential.... unfortunately it was wasted.
    -Slow and boring/repetitive leveling experience.
    -Bad gearing and class-building experience.

The first month of this game was alright but there were clearly some things missing. The gameplay in the second half gets really repetitive but not in the "Diablo 3 hectic fun" type of way. The first season is coming so there is promise for some excitement. Sadly in the first month's it's apparent that the game reached out to too many directions and missed on most of them. One of the worst is that Diablo was always a group game but most builds aren't fun to play as a team.

    Then the new patch hits.

They nerfed every build. They didn't fix much of anything. Necromancers don't have a viable pet build. This is a core element of the idea of a necromancer and the only viable builds for them don't feel like a necromancer. Sorcerers don't feel like a class the developers have played much and are not viable in much of anything. One of the main builds that did much they announced had a bug that they fixed which made it - worse. They nerfed Vulnerability (which needed nerfing) but did so in such a way that it hamstrung rogues. I could go on and on, but that's not the worst of the changes. Defenses - nerfed.

They made every attempt to slow the game down. It was already a boring grind past lv 50 (out of 100 max) but they made every attempt to keep people in the game longer. Longer in something that was already boring. It took my patience to really get to lv 100 and that's saying a lot. I usually take 2-3 builds minimum to the max each season in Diablo 3. Dungeon exp - nerfed right after they buffed it. Not "hey let's nerf it back down to original levels before the buff". No, they took it well below their original level. Helltide shards - nerfed but they say it was a bug. Sure. Helltide chests - nerfed and now it takes a lot longer to get chests that have really bad loot to begin with. Playing with friends? Can't they put caps on the world tier levels. Want to help your friends level so they can catch up to you? Nerfed.

I bought the collectors edition so I get a free season pass. I wont' be redeeming it this year. Too many other good things to play. Much like Diablo 3's launch Blizzard just doesn't understand their audience anymore. I'll wait a few seasons to see if they understand their game and maybe come back.

I didn't buy this game to be a beta tester of an early access game. I expected more from a game that has 3 previous versions to draw from and decades of data on what players want out of a the Diablo series.. If you enjoyed previous Diablo games, then you are better to wait this out and see if development gets a clue on what made this series great in the first place. Awesome cinematics though.

As a solo, 1-2 hours a day player, I had one char lvl 82 before season 1 started. Transitioning from WT1 to WT3 was tedious in terms of XP granted when in WT3. Transitioning from WT3 to WT4 felt similarly unrewarding and super slow to catch up on the lvl requirements. With the new patch and the stealth nerfs (lvl req on capstone), I do not know why spending dozens of hours more to get the same stuff as before is fine.

While the future of the game is anyone’s guess, at present Diablo IV is a solid, but strangely unambitious take that fails to bring much new to the table. By the end of my travels, I was more than willing to put it down and take a break — somewhere amongst all the grinding, Diablo IV had unfortunately ground me down as well.
