This could have been the game of the year, but with a weak storyline and very poor endgame players feel robbed of their investment.
Little or no alterations made in the game in the so-promising season, make the game very poor to play, lack of ideas and the so-wanted game changes, makes Diablo the rip-off of the year!

This is a game that could stand as a 20€ (max) in steam platform. That shouldn't have "Diablo" in the title. They scammed us.
Bad itemization..casual-player focused...console-focused...zero economy.. Too bad for those who spent more than 70 euros to buy it and got scammed for those 4 days playing before official release because there is no economy to build into.
    Again an out-of-season

This latest opus reeks of laziness and greed.
What hack and slash needs microtransactions? Horse armor? Really? Who are you Bethesda?

Blizzard used to have a focus on quality. Since Activision got into the mix, it's only been going downhill and keeps plunging deeper and deeper, underground, where they'll stay buried...

This game started out kind of fun, but if you took it too slow (doing side quests and dungeons) you basically have a harder time fighting the level scaled enemies, then patch 1.1 came out, and gutted most builds.

Some others: Season 1 map fog bug, being forced to go seek out waypoints we already found, being forced to repeat Renowns we have already completed, a wow-like clean slate, but no content -- do more of what you have already done, in an un-trackable mess of "chores" if you want to progress the seasonal chapters. Gems now rarely drop, but instead your bags are filled with malignants so much you are spending even MORE time managing a horrible inventory system -- no stash/inventory capacity changes, no Inventory search or proper sort ability. Conveniently setup the seasonal menu UI in such a way that you will inevitably/accidently use your premium battle pass. Very suspect ! You didn't fix anything the community feedback have been giving you since beta, instead you made changes no one was asking for so you could slow us down and take out all the fun we had been having up until the 1.1 patch. And It backfired indeed. So surprised Blizzard is under a massive DDOS at the moment -- the Devs basically aren't going to change much. So...Baldur's Gate 3 in two weeks. No reason to waste your time with D4. It will be months before they fix this, if they even do. GG Blizz -- you are not worthy. Expand

Instead of fixing bugs and problems that were known, and instead of prioritizing implementing HIGHLY requested features, the developers chose to go the complete opposite route and just unload a massive, steamy dump all over the game and making everything more inconvenient and grindy for what can only be interpreted as a "we see you're having fun here, it'd be a terrible shame if..". Their faces during the last developer live-stream (campfire, as they call it) said it all. I WISH I could be the fly on the wall come the time the developers have to defend these decisions to their higher-ups, and explain why suddenly it's one of the lowest rated games in recent times (which is an accomplishment, given all the aweful releases in 2023) and why there's a mass-exodus of players. Save your money, buy the good Diablo on the battle-net launcher instead (D2R) and enjoy hours upon hours of fun. Expand

Diablo 4 Season 1 patch was so bad, the playerbase feedback about what they don't like (Give me back my Vulnerable Damage!) is being construed as "review-bombing" and "petty" by shills and development management. You can plainly see this by observing the Critic Reviews Score vs. The User Reviews Score; People who were paid to write positive reviews did exactly what they were paid to do, while Users who actually will play the game post launch have some obvious problems with the changes made for Season 1 and the base game itself (Example: only four stash tabs, with no increase for season 1).
It's not review bombing if the "patches" or base game ranges from low-tier trash to tolerably mediocre.

Worse off than D3 was before it was saved and honestly i think this team lacks the experience and knowhow to fix it. It absolute mess. And when you adjust skills by 1% like they did in last patch and day "we buffed it" it just shows they have 0 f***ing clue what they are doing

Stats and skills being the biggest problem and no build diversity whatsoever.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First and foremost, I am a casual gamer. I was not supposed to buy this game but bought it anyway because of how much I enjoyed D3 playing wizard/sorcerer.

I played sorcerer for the campaign and toughed it out using a frost nova hydra build because it was the most suitable with my playstyle. Battles were usually long and arduous. Later on it became a task. I am mainly a solo player and only encounter other players during world events. That's when I see players 10 levels lower than my sorc from other classes dealing more damage.

I don't usually look at the numbers (unlike the plyers at reddit which is cool) but the disparity between classes was in plain sight. I thought maybe the sorc will be stronger at 100 but happened upon a 100 sorc in a legion event. Both of us tried to take down a structure but it took painfully long until a druid "TOUCHED" it and took us out of our misery. Honestly it was demoralizing since the druid was lvl 77, I was at 86.

Basically, a 80+ and a 100 lvl sorc combined, is weaker than a 77 druid. I retired my sorc that night. I would have uninstalled the game but I paid 150+ for this and I have not gotten my money's worth. If I can't get it from the fun aspect, I might as well get it from playtime.

Created a rogue for season 1 and battles are finally looking up. But...

Season 1 is underwhelming and frustrating. New dungeon mechanics make it hard to complete for malignant hearts but require a malignant invoker that is not even a guaranteed drop in the same dungeon. Am I supposed to run around dungeons for a "chance" to complete it because that, to me, sound like a scam and a good way to tell me to cut my losses and just uninstall.

I expected a fun game and a little challenge. I guess Blizzard wanted to build a challenging game more than a fun one so now we get a patch that makes things more difficult, in the process lessening the fun aspect. The game has become more and more uninteresting.

The only saving grace I have is I share the account with my partner and did not pay twice for a bad game.

For a game that supposed to have atmosphere the mobs severely lack noises and the ones that do, are annoying. I'm looking at you fallen shamen. The skill tree gives the illusion of flexibility, then you realise about 4-5hrs in "oh most of the skills suck, looks like its spin to win baby". On my Necro, I want to use minions but are mediocre against mobs and are useless against bosses. Speaking of the bosses, they are straight boring. D2 Andarial and Durial were an absolute pain but was satisfying to beat, D4 snoozefest. The pacing of the game feels slow, particularly after the 1.1 disaster. Maybe if you had a PTR Blizzard, we could of told you before you implemented it, how bad it is. WoW has had one for years, where is it?

They got rid of set items because they wanted more variety in game play. Yet they gave us these super rare items aspects that make or break a build. Whats the difference??? At least with the sets I could build to something. In D3 I got the same set item, sweet I can transmute to another item in the set. Sure it wasn't guaranteed but it gave a better chance.

In all fairness, it took D3 years before it got better. But surely after 3 games you learn from mistakes. Each game people have wanted more stash space, this is not is a diablo alone complaint. People like collecting, in games and IRL. What is even more perplexing is they had the "let's load the stash when you see another player" problem in D3. Seriously, did no one question this system going into D4??? Nah let's just give less stash instead. We just want to hoard. Let the people hoard!!!!!!

I could go on and on but I've already wasted enough time on D4.

After my rant, my point is simply, the game is not fun!

Who is testing this game? The players?

Well you won, we tested it for you Blizzard. We even paid you to be play testers.

And now we all quit, yay.

The lack of experience on the team is resounding - from terrible communication to extreme patches that fluctuate player experiences multiple times per week, to a general display of a lack of both confidence in their product and respect for their customers. It's almost as though the company still believes it's the best studio in the world, and isn't able to see its own failures.

This game was very clearly made to be a p2w cash grab in the vein of Diablo Immortal, but after customer backlash changed this game's destiny, it slowly developed into the worst of both worlds - all of the grindy awful gameplay to push a player to a pay to win cash shop mixed with an arrogant design team that both doesn't understand their own game math and also doesn't understand what their customers want.

This game should have and could have been Blizzard's saving grace - but clearly, it falls far short of the mark - and it's not the art, the visual style, or the sound - it's the game developers and their lack of ability or care to create something great shining through.

Do yourself a favor - skip this game. Go play literally anything else. This game is the definition of "Not worth $70".

Blizzard, you deserve every bit of hate you're getting from the player-base for what you did in patch 1.1.

If you're considering buying this game, just know that someone in charge there has obviously decided they don't want you to have fun. An entire class is nigh unplayable for the endgame content; that right there should speak volumes about what their internal "testing" must look like.

There are high points to the game, but all of the good in Blizzard games, including this one, is usually overshadowed by their "kitchen sink at the wall" haphazard nerfing, their poor communication, and their blatant emphasis on profit over quality. Diablo 4 could be great. Where it is at right now? Save yourself the headache and don't bother investing time into a company/ game that refuses to sell you a product you get to enjoy for more than 5 minutes before having your digital world randomly turned upside down. 1.1 was absolute trash Blizzard. There's just no excuse for what you did. Fireside chats and all, that was a joke for which you deserve all of the recent flak. Get it together.

Some legendary items with too long, conditional, and hard-to-understanding affixes make you confused about how they work. For their Key Indicator Performances, they make the game become super slow and a waste of players' time: many backtracking, running through empty maps, and increasing time for leaving dungeons, ... The game has turned into a tedious chore. There is no fun for all-time-running out of resources to cast core skill, the countdown is super long and the only way is to wait.

I don't like every monster level in the game being the same as yours almost all the time. You level up and become weaker because monsters receive more than you.
There is such a low number of classes and builds to pick (and almost all of them are the same from past games). All the characters work the same way (use skill to generate resource to use main skill). You just don't have any purpose to grind that annoying leveling: the events are not that cool and don't give specific rewards. Why kill lilith if she doesn't have a chance to drop something good?
    Now the worst part:
The feel that the devs are just messing progression so you don't progress and stay in the game more time because QoL was attacked. No map overlay (D1 in 2000~ had map overlay). Nerfs on characters there are already feel clunky in a slow paced game. Nerfs xp by nerfing dungeon. Nerfs on aspects.
No trade system at all. No solo option for leveling that is close to group playing. No matchmaking or some party finding system. No clan activities. Tons of "shops/crafters" and most of them are far from portal.
And s01 most of these problems stays or are worse while I expected some improvements in the game.

Why do players have fun, let them run half the dungeon after death to mobs, die dozens of times from endless control, farm nightmarish dungeons with resource burning ... Why fix this? All bugs, glitches and laggy connections about 70% of the time, they found a new way to create repetitive boredom. It's pretty much the same game as diablo 3, with a bit of flash, and much harder. It is cool that the talent/ability system is very customizable, but its very difficult to find a combination of abilities that work well. Also, the enemies have infinite long stuns and fears. Their cool downs are way quicker than the players, and it doesn't seem that there is any diminishing returns for the player. The enemy is immune to stuns for a while pretty much after the first stun. It's just not fun to repeatedly be stunned until your dead, then have to walk all the way from the beginning of a dungeon every time you die. It's just annoying and has no purpose to the game. It's also very difficult to get gear good enough to beat any dungeons of any kind. As you slowly get gear that is better (you rarely get better gear after a certain point) the enemies get harder every time you level, so they usually stay ahead of you. It makes jumping to the next tier incredibly annoying and difficult. The PvP is just terrible, and they make you have to participate to finish the season missions. In short, the game is just way too hard for a game this repetitive and boring. There's no feeling of accomplishment. The company needs to stop focusing on new ways to charge their customers and focus on improving the game content.
08/20/23 - I took a week or 2 break from the game to try to let them at the very least fix some of the bugs. Not only on my first event that I attempted did it bug out and I was unable to get the points for completing it, but it was also immediately and continuously still laggy to the point of effecting being able to play. Every time I hit a lag spike, when it fixes itself, I am swarmed and have to use every cooldown just to try to survive. I do thank them though. This game was so disappointing, I voluntarily decided that doing yard work was more fun and rewarding then this game. I now know that they have gotten so obsessed with nickel and dimming every chance they can, and that their games are just so repetitive and boring with the absence of any feeling of accomplishment, it's not worth the money or time you put into it. I actually have gotten a lot of projects around the house I was too lazy to do. My house looks great. I feel great. And I'll never have to throw $100 away on a game that feels like work anyway. So thank you again. This is obviously just my opinion, but I'd listen to me. Take care all.

This is not a new word in the game industry, I did not see any bold decisions, reaching a new level. And this is not exactly what I would like or expect.
Yes, the graphics are beautiful, music and cinematics are great, the plot is exciting, but it is not enough and everything else is no of interest. The atmosphere of the game is poorly conveyed, it is easily spoiled by the MMO component.
I liked the references to Meshif and Deckard. But the little evil in the face of Andariel and Duriel was simply flushed down the toilet. It didn't look like a homage.
Immersion at the beginning of the game was good, but soon I got the impression that I was thrown into a train running at full speed.

Mix D2R with Knaak's books, ditch the MMO and possibly the isometric view (that would be very bold and could have a great effect), be as sensitive as possible about the atmosphere - you will succeed. But the game looks like a D3 upgrade.

Videos with people playing D4, which are posted on the official YouTube channel, are very revealing, players show simulated emotions.
    Artificial hype. Boredom.

I think, the capitalists have replaced creators, they are stifling fantasy, preventing artists from making real art.
In their opinion, the player should not get much pleasure from the game, entertainment should be very portioned and mixed with a lot of boring content.

Just a note, I only played one class (Was recommended to play through a single class before trying a new one), and my hardware isn't the best, but also not the worst.

    The Good:

    - Great Graphics (Also see "Bad" below)
    - Interesting enough Main Story
    - Combat is mostly fun (If you get your abilities juuuuust right. See below).

    The Bad
    - The skill "tree" (more like a linear line) is very simplistic. If you don't pick exactly some meta build, it's going to be a struggle bus all the way, hitting regular mobs with your builder at least 10 times before they drop dead as a druid, is not what I call fun. Being one-shot by a regular mob, as a bear druid, is not fun.

    - The passives on the skill tree don't change your ability in any meaningful way. Mostly just extra stats or "x is now y type damage". (Not like how they could change your ability such as in Diablo 3).

    - If you don't have a beast of a machine, you're going run your graphics on low, and it's going to look really bad. Like really really bad. There is no mid setting. You either have awesome graphics or Diablo II level graphics.

    - No offline mode. Why oh why am I forced to play online?! Multiplayer is great only if I opt into it, with the people I want to.

    - Treasure Goblins.... why even bother. The drop is less impressive than a regular chest.

    - Level scaling undermines any progress you think you make. You've levelled your character all the way to level 50, but somehow still feel like your struggling exactly as much as you did when you started at lvl 1.

    - Leveling is SLOW and unrewarding. Once you hit level 50, it is painfully slow to get to level 100. I hit level 50 around 2/3 through the main quest line and was level 51 when I finished it. This included doing any side quest I could find.

    The Ugly:

    - Game crashed a crazy number of times, sometimes in the middle of a boss battle.

    - Don't even THINK of leaving an area if you're in the middle main campaign quest. I followed a treasure goblin out of an area, lost the item I was carrying, and had to do everything again, including a boss battle.

    - Rubberbanding is real. Running somewhere, oh no you're back to where you were 2 seconds ago.

    - The online store. This is a big one for me. If I'm going to a premium AAA price for a game, to have all the "cool" appearances locked in the online store, that just feels very greedy to me. Additionally, said appearances cost coins, said coins cost really moolah, and at the end of the day, a single appearance can cost you almost as much as the game itself. Lunacy!

    Conclusion

The game had enough going for it that I wanted to finish by the main campaign, however, it was a struggle all the way, often taking a break every couple of days between rounds. Ultimately, running through big packs and killing hordes of mobs felt frustrating rather than fun. The regular crashes were frustrating, and having the online shop constantly rubbed in your face almost completely detracted from any good this game had. The dark oppressive horror remains, but ultimately the spirit of the game is gone.

There's so many things that are broken and wrong with this game and it had so much potential. I would wait for the price to go down if you're thinking about purchasing. I don't have it on here Expand

Nice graphisms but that's all. Itemization is a disaster. No endgame except uber lilith fight who is totally bugged (zoom camera inconsistant, p1 mechanism awfull). It's just a beta, very disapointed no fun at all.

Very big game, but after you level your 1st character at 60 or so, there's not much to do, you just run the same dungeons over and over. In theory there should be multiple builds for each character, but the internal balance is poor.

Add to that the constant nerfing patches and the annoying server problems and it's a very sub-par experience.

La historia la verdad no es para nada divertida, cada capitulo lo mismo una y otra vez,
    Un final predecible y generico.

Soy un veterano de Diablo 3.
La verdad perdi la confianza en Blizzard con este juego, es una total decepcion.

I paid 100 euros for this game and expected a good blizzard game where the community had a say. I really tried enjoying the end game but i can't anymore. The grind is makes me go insane in the end. Leveling takes forever and you have seen all items 100 times over. The open world gives me anxiety when I open the map, nothing feels alive and you have no emotional attachment to anything.I paid 100 euros for this game and expected a good blizzard game where the community had a say. It feels like blizzard didn't even try their own game before releasing. If they would have, they would have known everything is repetitive, from dungeons, to skills, to battle pass, to quests and exploration. I will not go into the PvP mess. Expand

Campaing is great i had a lot of fun. But then come the endgame, or a lack of it. there is no point of doing dungeons or bosses cause u cant trade the loot cause most of the items are soulbound. One of the biggest fun you can have doesnt exist in this game, I mean find an item you can sell and buy yourself items that you wanted for you character. Wasted money.

Story mode was okay, but just okay. After a couple decades of D3, I was disappointed by the loot. Gems only have 3 tiers of advancement... and none of them have socket adds that are worth much to a build. Legendary items have weaker bonuses. Items don't drop that are relevant to your class, which means finding useful items will be a dismal grind. Set items don't seem to be a thing atStory mode was okay, but just okay. Set items don't seem to be a thing at all... and with the game scaling to your level, you never feel like you're actually growing in power. There seems to only be about 20 monsters and the bosses are non-memorable. There's no Diablo at all!!! So how they call this "Diablo 4" is beyond me. The open-world feel is a cool idea, but what it actually does is confuse you as to where in the game you actually are. Honestly, the side quests are more interesting than the story ones. Feels like I may have wasted a bunch of money on this one, but at least I only bought the standard version. It's back to D3 for me. If they close it down then I'll be deleting battlenet altogether. Story is really fun, but thats it. Endgame is just boring, you only really do helltides and nightmare dungeons. And then the Bossfights...man, they have like no mechanics. Beside Uber lilith who has like 15 one-shot mechanics, but nothing else. One mistake, dead, start over. This game needs some real polish to the endgame, in regards to content and boss fights. At this point, rating 1 for the good story campaign. But we was promised with a great endgame, which truely didn't happen at all. Expand

Dungeon design isn't fun at all,
It is also very troublesome to modify the talent skills,
    backpack is not enough,
Don't want to keep going back to town to take out the trash,
The selling NPC is too far away, a waste of time

This game offers nice 20-30h of playtime when you're doing story first time. Maybe few additional hours of fun at Tier 3 while you're experiencing so called "endgame content" for the first time.

Battlepass is just massive scam, they're selling you 2 exactly the same cosmetics set (more and less details) and that's all - no money for another battlepass.

    It's a total disaster.

Played Druid and the struggle was real but didn't really accept it. Thought it was myself that was not focus on the build.

The season came and change to Barb and had all the same experience. The struggle for continuing was so lame.
Changed to Rogue and the fun really began. But at this time, I've had so much struggle of feeling strong and powerful I just lost all the joy in it.

The itemization is a catastrophe, the farming for upgrading your gear is even worse.

The gold you loot is so low that the only way to get gold is to sell items but then you lack mats. So you instead salvage the gear but then you lack gold. The hamster wheel of this is so bad. And if you imprint gear it transforms into a legendary, but the gear itself is not, just the color. So if you salvage the imprinted gear, it's just regular yellow. Might be getting legendary mats when salvage but I guess not.

However, graphics good and the story's fun to play.

While the future of the game is anyone’s guess, at present Diablo IV is a solid, but strangely unambitious take that fails to bring much new to the table. By the end of my travels, I was more than willing to put it down and take a break — somewhere amongst all the grinding, Diablo IV had unfortunately ground me down as well.

The best Blizzard launch in a long time and a worthy game to be called Diablo.
