Although initially disappointed by server downtimes, I have had no issues since and I find myself really enjoying this game. Even if it has been simplified, me and my friends have already had many hours of fun and It think it will continue. Good purchase.

This game isn't complete trash, but it feels very uninspired and just not that great. I could give it a lower score based on what I was expecting, but I think a 6 is pretty fair score for this game.. You probably won't be disappointed too much, but I just don't see how anyone would be really wowed by this.

Ignore the low user scores, the majority of players are too busy enjoying this great game to correct the haters who have been trying to destroy the name of the awesome universe that is Diablo 3. Message to haters: Read the minimum system requirements before purchase! Thankyou Blizzard for yet another masterpiece, now it's time for me to log back in!! :)

I was a huge fan of Diablo 1 and 2, but this is just ridiculous. The game is a fine addition to the Diablo series, even though it is horribly dumbed down for the casual gamer masses. It's apparent that Blizzard doesn't care about their customers and are just another greedy corporation. The invasive DRM kills it for me. I don't really understand why everyone hates this game. They fixed a lot of the tedium of d2 while expanding and evolving the gameplay. Skills:

There are people saying the graphics are too cartoony... All blizzard games are cartoony. It is visually appealing while still conveying some serious epicness. There are people saying the graphics are outdated... Blizzard always makes games that are lower on the graphics end so that more people with a wider range of system specs can play. You don't play a blizzard game for the graphics, you play for the gameplay. SC2 is no graphics prodogy. >.>

    Having to play online:
Ok, this is one of the two issues I have with this game. There should be some sort of offline option where any items you get cannot be sold on the auction house. Not being able to play a single player game, whenever, is pretty frustrating. Multi-player groups, etc..:
This has been streamlined so much it is glorious! You can join your friends whenever you want, wherever they are within seconds. Admittedly, this makes the single player experience less appealing - simply because of the amount of fun one has playing with friends. Bosses:
These bosses are similar to WoW. Some may think this is cheating, I don't. Blizzard found something that works well - why change it? Multi-mechanic fights involving learning what animation means what and how to counter it are fun... get over it. A quick list of things that I think Blizzard did very well with. - Rewarding and appropriately epic sound design
    - Most spell animations are pretty and fairly epic
    - Many small side quests/stories/events
    - BEAUTIFUL vistas and landscapes in some parts of the game
    - More interesting boss fights (compared to d2)
    - More interesting hero/elite mechanics (compared to d2)
    - Much better difficulty progression (compared to d2)

Overall, I would give the game a nine, however the online requirement makes me a little bit sad. As such, it will receive an eight. Oh, and don't take the day off to play the release of any online game. There are always a million problems. Why haven't people learned this?

Its a lot to pay for a game and frankly I expected more. Its quiet obvious that I've paid £44 for the maintenance of servers so Blizzard can capitalize on their profits. Clearly very little of that money has gone into the development of this game. I'm not going to go over the connection issues and other bugs, they've been well documented. I want to talk about how I'm really bored of this game. Its a bland, its easy, its boring. The gameplay is so one dimensional its painful. When Blizzard first pitched this game we were promised a game that would require more strategy over the previous titles, but honestly, it more point and click than Diablo 2. And thats saying something. The storyline is basic, the twists are obvious, the music...oh don't get me started on the music! Its like Diablo has lost its soul. A lot of people have commented positively on the voice acting. I honestly don't see why. The actors sound too jovial for a game like this. There's no sense of danger, no sense of urgency, its like 'who cares' whether you kill Diablo or not. The fear of fighting your way through the world of sanctuary has gone. You cant take this game seriously because it looks like a cartoon. Even Hello Kitty looks more menacing than the monsters in Diablo 3.

And its the little things too like the sound effects. It sounds kak. You don't feel like your interacting with a system, rather passing through a load of screens. I was really looking forward to this game and ignored a lot of the negative comments directed towards it. This game had so much potential, I cannot believe that Blizzard have managed to sc@w it up.

If it was £20, then yea, fair do's you expect to have to take a gamble on a game at that price. But its £44! You expect something a lot more polished. Torchlight cost me £15 and that even though it doesn't have half the stuff Diablo 3 does, its still far more enjoyable. And I don't have to have a constant internet connection to play. C'mon Blizzard, that's a lot of money for people to pay, especially in this climate. What were you thinking?! Paying for a game like this would actually do more to encourage piracy than to put it off.

I was so annoyed that I created a metacritic account especially to express my annoyance. What I cant believe either are the critics reviews. Any reviewer worth their salt would not give this a positive score. Its just a joke. In my opinion their all sucking up to Blizzard and they should be ashamed of themselves. Consumers rely on critics to do their jobs so people don't get conned into buying something they won't like. I refuse to believe that every critic thought this game deserved over 80%. Not just because of personal experience, but because of the huge numbers of users that have given it a negative review. You might argue that there are over 800 positive reviews, but if you read them, you'll notice that alot of them are protest reviews against the negative one. So far I haven't seen one negative critic review and that says it all. We've been conned by Blizzard and we've been conned by the critics. I'm going to ask for my money back and I'm going to boycott Blizzard games from now on.

My hopes haven't withered away entirely, with prospects from Bethesda and Blizzard and the upcoming Guild Wars 2 keeping my hopes afloat. I think we can all agree the Diablo series maintains superior replay value for games of their day and age. Unfortunately, video gaming is constantly ever-changing. Console-tards have overrun the video game world. Their need for instant gratification and simplification and flashiness has eventually seeped into PC gaming (cough* Skyrim and there removal of attributes, stuff from previous installments, etc.). Though I'm not that old, I'm a longtime vet of old school titles like the Diablo series. Like many of you, I grew up with the game. I f**king loved it. Still do.

My point is this: The people who made this game aren't the original devs. They borrowed concepts from other oversimplified games, made their own oversimplified Diablo clone, and made Diablo into a chick. Seriously? It's all about the money, isn't it Vivendi? I should have known better. But I digress. - Character development simplified. All skills auto unlock (which is horsef**k). Skills can't be upgraded to your liking with points invested into them (the one thing they should have kept). No attribute distribution. Completely unoriginal skills and effects. The RPG element has dissipated severely. You can make your character male or female. Customization can't get much more depth than that. /sarcasm

    - The original "dark/fantasy/horror" theme of the game is lost. It adopted the cartoon-world style that WoW has. I remember the "grittiness" playing Diablo in the dark, while nearly sh**ing my pants when the Butcher came out of his room. I'm not going to complain about the outdated visuals too much, since the original Diablo games weren't renowned for their graphics. They did what worked - which is what I hoped they would do here. But they didn't.

    - Plot is terrible. Diablo and Diablo 2 weren't the best, I'll admit. By best, I mean something along the lines of Final Fantasy VII and X. How many years was Diablo 3 in making? With all those years of development, I would expect something refreshing in the least. I predicted so many parts of the story it wasn't even funny. I feel like I've been lied to. I can't help but to speculate that the game began development a year or two ago, and they've just been hyping people up all these years to make money (i.e. Chinese Democracy - Guns N' Roses)

    - Sound and effects were alright.

    - I will admit, the auction house was sweet. But they're implementing a real money auction house, where they get a cut. Way to turn the tables on those pesky Chinese farmers, Blizzard. At least they've realized you can't get rid of them; so why not join them, right? #allaboutthe$

    - Buggy launch is buggy

    - Gameplay isn't all THAT bad compared to originals. Diablo was a point and click game originally, but it shouldn't take all these years to realize a game with the exact same concept. People will get their hopes up and expect something unique and original, only to be shot down by something stagnant.

    - Need internet to play? No single player offline? Self explanatory.

    - No PvP. One of the reasons I continued play and developing my characters in Diablo 2 for years on and off was the fact I could poop on the chests of newcomers. When it hasn't been implemented, it implies several things: Character skills and attributes weren't too well thought out. By this, I think they created them for PvE, disregarding the balance and effects players would have combatting eachother. It means the game is unfinished. They took too long making it, haven't finished, and rushed it into the fray to ease the ever growing throng of Diablo-fanboy piranhas (like myself, admittedly). Shoulda saw it coming when SC2 was announced, boys. - Bringing back old school characters to induce nostalgia in older players? Didn't do it for me. I was actually offended seeing these monsters I've slain in the past magically brought back out of nowhere. The only one I wouldn't have been disappointed with and wasn't brought back was Andariel, so I could pause the game and look at her boobies jiggle. Then again, they probably would have taken that out too. Overall, I'm disappointed. It lost that effective formula that I can't quite put my finger on, which kept me and so many others coming back. If you're a fan of the series, don't give in to capitalism and waste your money on this oversimplified Diablo clone. Yes, I'm putting on the level of a "clone" and not an actual title within the series. It's that bad. Like the hero of old who slew Diablo beneath Tristram and became the Dark Wanderer, this game too is nothing more than a shadow of it's former glories. 1/10.

Now onto diablo 3, i'm an avid player of the first mentioned game but i bought diablo 3 anyway knowing i didnt have to expect alot because i was in the beta. Finished normal difficulty so far and i find the game quite enjoyable and fun, good for casual games and good for waiting for the open beta of the first mentioned game.
This shouldnt be called diablo 3, more like WORLD OF DIABLOCRAFT, if it had a different name people would not be raging atm, but calling it the successor of the great games that were diablo and diablo 2 is really arrogant towards real fans of the complex aspects of the former 2 games that made them great.
Diablo for kids and casual gamers, good for wasting time, probably still worth an 8 because it's quite a decent game on its own, but boy if you insist in calling it diablo 3 it deserves a 4/10 score max.

p.s. i'm not affiliated in any way to the company of the first game mentioned, i'm jst an enthusiastic fan of it which, like many and many others, donated real money willingly and without acquiring any advantage in game to such company just because it is worth that much

The game is very casualized compared to it's previous incarnations. Some might appreciate that since so much time was spent figuring out customization instead of just playing the game.

The launch was hilariously terrible but only for US players. It seems Blizzard spent their time and money and focused on the Europe/Asia regions as they were able to play continuously while the US region was taken down for most of launch day and again the day after with fifteen minute server restarts ( sounds like an MMO problem, Diablo is an MMO? ).

Another major issue is the always on connection. You are connected to a server at all times and if you connection to that server lags just a little bit the game will rubber-banned. A single player game rubber-banning is messed up and disconnects will not save anything the last 5-10 minutes so if you start to rubber-ban it's best to stand still and see if the latency bar goes back to green.

When you are eventually able to play it's great to play with friends. While the only thing it changes is the health points of the enemies it does make it more interesting to play when friends are there to save you or die doing something stupid. Alone it can be somewhat mindless but in a good way I guess. It appeals to some of the OCD nature in all of us to clear everything and destroy everything. They picked the perfect time to release the game as the PC gaming market is dull at the moment for major titles especially in this category. There are real money auction houses that can be used to sell or buy items with real money. Blizzard takes a large cut of the sale and there are fee's for transferring back to something like PayPal.

I'll be quite surprised if it lasts more than two weeks for me.

That said Blizzard seemed to forget many of the basics that make connecting with your friends and building a community around a game fun and easy. No inclusion of custom private chat-channels and voice chat in 2012 is something sorely missed. Clan/guild support is another thing that fans would love to see. I know Blizzard is working to address many of these issues, but one would think that with the development time taken some of these little things would not have been overlooked. I think a lot of the other reviewers need to chill out, I understand the game has DRM, but you already knew this. I understand the game had a bad launch, and if you're a gamer.. you already knew this would happen. The only reason I think a game should be rated 3 and below is if it has a massive amount of bugs that never got patched, along with being an overall terrible game. Expand

The game itself is fine, but when it comes to the "always online" system then it fails. Lets say you have a bad internet connection, then you will start to have small problems when it comes to lag.. Online Only for single player, Horrible stylized graphics that look like a wow rip off. Nuff said they ruined the game by making a offshoot of wow instead of making a sequel to Diablo 2.

The sour grapes on display here is quite pathetic. The critics score of 8.8. is about right. I played diablo 2 for several hundred hours, I was obsessed with it. And Diablo 3 is, I think, objectively far better in most respects. So the servers failed on day 1. Ok, rate battle.net badly, it has nothing to do with the actual game. Bunch of whiny kids on here.

Have any of these critics even played Diablo 2? This game eliminates much of what made its predecessor great.

Here's a list of things that displease me:

-No more choice when leveling your character. Everything unlocks automatically
    -You can't distribute skill points

-Items have, for the most part, the same size. You can carry many more things than you could in Diablo 2. Some people might like this better, but it makes things feel less valuable.
-No more scrolls of town portal. You have to use waypoints.
    -Potion healing is drastically changed.
-You can't actually use your weapon when you feel like it. As in, the game doesn't allow you to swing your weapon if you feel like it with certain classes.
-I don't think the graphics are bad, but they don't fit the atmosphere. Whereas the first one was dark and gritty, this one seems cartoonish. -The writing is uninspired and has that "oh look at me I'm so epic" quality that I've noticed is becoming increasingly common in Blizzard games

Overrall, the game just feels watered down and simplified. Some people disagree with me and are having the time of their lives. All I know is that I wasn't having fun even after a few hours of playing.

The simplified mechanics will appeal to the less experienced and casual gamers, and the younger element of plays who do not rememer the heritage of the Diablo brand

I played open beta and couldn't stand it for more then 20 minutes, say all you want about not giving it a fair shot but i'm not going to force myself to play a piece of crap, a polished turd is still a turd, I waited for this game like everyone else. The writing is on the wall and all the indications are there that Blizzard and parent companies are now just lifeless corporations looking to churn out a quarterly profit by providing incomplete products and throwing you a bone once in a while at a premium price thus requiring you continue paying money for a never ending beta. Kind of like tying a dollar bill to a string and pulling it away from your victim as soon as they get close. Very few companies once successful stick to quality standards and seek for never ending ways to exploit and sucker their customers once pleased with their offerings into bloating their coffers. Enjoy dishing out quarterly payments to these big gaming corporations to complete the forever incomplete product you are essentially buying. EA has been doing it for years, adding a few useless features or features that were already there or very easily could of been utilized in previous year titles. Maybe its just bitterness towards the lack of quality in games these days or playing too many and expecting more, maybe the gaming industry is in need of something revolutionary and innovative. If you wanted just D2 with better graphics then I think you misunderstand how the video game industry works. Try Kickstarter or something. I can understand the complaints about server problems. I was quite disappointed in that and the inconvenience associated with the online only aspect deserves some lost points in the rating. But giving the game a zero for it is like throwing away good food because your waiter was rude.
As for the complaints about customizability, even in my gaming heyday, in the era of D1 and D2, I didn't have the time to experiment with every possible customization. I thought that collecting runes and gems and set items was so tedious and time-consuming, I'm glad they simplified it a bit. Now for some of the things I like.
I like the graphics. I adjusted the settings so that it runs really smoothly and the graphics are still beautiful and what I would have expected.
I like that you can dye bits of armor to change your character's appearance. Simple thing but it shows they still understand that customization is important.
Fun and simple gameplay. I don't need it to be the most challenging I do every day. And higher difficulties and hardcore characters still allow for more intensity for those who want it.
I like the achievements. It's kinda par for the course with games these days but I think it adds something good to the game.
I like not having to carry around mana or scrolls.
These are just a few of the unique features that I love about D3. I think it's a great game. And I'll say it again, if you're disappointed that D3 isn't just D2 with better graphics, I think your expectations are unrealistic and it's no wonder you're disappointed.
It's a great game with some minor flaws. Period.

While I haven't completed the game (not even close), I am really enjoying the storyline, mechanics, and overall atmosphere. And of course, the main thing we all like is the loot, which is rampant in D3. Fans of the first two Diablo games will appreciate how similar this is - Blizzard did not deviate far from its winning formula for the franchise, and I appreciate that (especially after seeing how Bioware destroyed the Dragon Age franchise with its sequel). For those of you who gave the game a zero, you should play the game (servers are fine now) and then come back and modify your score. Just because servers crashed on the first night does not mean the game is a zero. Although I also don't agree with needing a constant internet connection this isn't the first game to do it and one of the biggest reasons to add this requirement is for any game now a days is because of piracy. Is it the best way to handle it? No. If your going to be mad about something like that be mad at the people who steal games. The people that think the game is worth playing but don't want to pay for it. As for the launch bugs, they will get fixed, calm down.

Now, on to the real reason I'm defending the game. People keep saying its watered down and to "casual." To those people I say, wait till you unlock the other difficulty modes. I am also reading a lot of post about people being unhappy with character development. I think they did a great job. From what I gather people are pretty butt hurt about not being able to pick stats when you level. But I ask why, why do you want to do that so much? Blizzard took a step back and actually analyzed how people were playing their games. Just like in WoW if you didn't put talent point in certain skills, or in Diablo's case, stats, then you were essentially playing the class wrong. They instead said, and this is true with Diablo too, if they are always going to put their point into these stats lets find another way that people can customize their characters the way they want to without them feeling inferior to someone else playing the same class. That's where the introduction to these new skill types shine. For example my brother and myself are both playing Monk. We are both piling on the dexterity from items, because in order to do any type of good damage we need it. Which points back to why anyone wants "customize" their own stats, just let them do it. We all know where your going to put them anyway. Instead, where we get to customize is with our abilities, runes, and passive abilities. We play the character completely different yet were both feel just as powerfully and we enjoy playing the game in our own ways. I've tried his skills build and i hate it, and the same can be said when he tried how I play my monk. The game is deep, the art is gorgeous and a amazing example of why not every game needs "next gen" graphics. For everyone hating on the game for the mandatory internet connection and the launch bugs. I understand, I've said my share of comment about it, but grow up. Scores of Zero are childish.

The game is very fun, especially with friends, and the cutscenes are some of the most amazing things I've seen in my long gaming life. The classes are unique, the graphics are pleasing, and the giblet explosions bring back my Diablo childhood. It is all around a polished game as well, with very few bugs that I've noticed (besides the glaring login issues, which Blizzard has now released an official apology for). There are excellent and well thought-out money sinks in the game, so gold actually has value, as well as good itemization, and an infinite amount of ways to customize your equipment.

There are a few downsides to the game, which made me give this game a 8 rather than a 9 or 10. First, you MUST be connected to the internet to play single-player, thus your speed an enjoyment of the game depend on your internet connection. Second, normal is far too easy. Nightmare is a little better. I have not played through Hell yet, but I'm guessing it will be what I consider "normal" difficulty for a game not geared towards children. Third, the auction house is nice, but could use some more features (such as searching by item name, and an automatic comparison of the item in auction house to what you currently have equipped). Fourth, maps don't seem that randomized, which lowers replay value.

Overall I think it is worth the money, especially if you are thinking of a game night with your friends.

You can still do builds and you eventually get magic find bonus for sticking with on build and not changing runes. All my friends who played Diablo 2 back in the day as well as WOW have done nothing but rave about it and we consider ourselves hardcore. With the servers more consistent I am struggling to find anything to complain about or that I would change.

My only complaint is it took so long to come out (I've been waiting personally for 10 years) and my free time is no longer existent with Diablo and Torchlight 2 coming out soon I have too much to play!

    I'm majorly surprised at all the negative reviews. This game has to be hands down the most fun I've had in Diablo for a long time. Let's take a look at some of the things this game has similar to the second;

-Characters: You'll see many reappearances of your favorite Diablo Lore characters in this game.

-Art: The art style looks and feels like Diablo. Who could forget the Life Orb after playing D2?

-Classes: A lot of the classes, while named differently, feel like advanced and fleshed out versions of the D2 classes. Witch Doctor; Necromancer. Barbarian (Same). Wizard; Sorceress. Monk; Paladin/Assassin Mix. Demon Hunter; Amazon/Assassin Mix.

Ok, so what are the differences?

-In-Depth Character Customization; Thousands of ways to build your toon with a forgiving system that doesn't lock you into a skill path. You can easily change your build out of combat with no penalties besides a small cooldown on the changed skill slot. Not to mention this new customization allows for gear optimization, allowing you to specialize certain ways for a bigger bang.

Also, this seems trivial, but I love the fact I can dye my armors or use a vanishing dye to remove ugly pieces. Plenty of dyes to find and millions of pieces of gear to customize with.

-Auction House; This is a very contested area in a review. Let me start by saying I disagree with the Real-Life Currency option and you won't find me doing it. With that said, the Virtual Currency (Gold) Auction House is incredibly useful. I've found magnificent gear for really low prices that have ubertized my toons, while also being able to sell old/found gear for a good amount.

I think people need to take a chance to actually utilize the Auction House, because it is a really neat feature that can be extremely beneficial to your builds and toons.

-Combat: Exciting, thrilling, and fast paced. Exactly what I expect out of Diablo. You no longer rely on health potions and instead rely on skill and Health Orbs that are strategically dropped by enemies throughout a fight. The new resources that each class has (Mana, Arcane Power, Spirit, Fury, and Hatred/Discipline) help to keep classes unique. While there are less skills to learn in this game, the Rune system allows you to deeply customize your character's abilities. No two toons should ever have the same build, simply because the Rune system adds a huge amount of depth to what your character can do.

-Story: Beautifully told story, filled with TONS (and I mean TONZ) of voice acting for those who hate reading. The CGI cutscenes are nothing less than breathtaking, exactly what I expect out of Blizzard. My only complaints here is that the story is fairly linear without many choices involved, but all the Diablo games are like this so this may be a good thing if you liked the linear style the three games have always had. Definitely some interesting plot twists, and surprisingly the voice acting isn't cheesy.

If you're a Diablo fan, this game shouldn't disappoint. If you're an action RPG fan, this game definitely won't disappoint. If anything, they've turned Diablo into a pseudo-MMO with much more depth involved.

Also, on another note, the servers are a little bit unstable as of now, but it's been patched constantly. I expect all the kinks to be worked out within the next week or so. The online play isn't discouraging in the least bit, and encourages teamplay (which is a whole other level of chaos and fun!)

If anything, this game is at least worth a try. Not a 10/10 perfect game, but an incredibly fun one never the less.

I read reviews talking about how they copied the skills from WoW as the worse thing ever happened , but in the end does the name of a skill really matters? Other say that the character customization lacks depth, I say that it does IF you don' t want it to be deep. To be able to change set of skills right before a Boss is a good thing, I suppose, while D2 players had to delete a character whenever their set of skills was wrong, while now the real customization is in the equipment . The gold based auction house is a good (WoW inspired) new feature, even thou the real money one isn' t that good. Pay for win should remain in the free-to-play games, where it belongs. As for the maps, some might complain, but they are randomly generated, so if you play twice the game you'll still find new dungeons, even new secondary quests. In the end the biggest problem Diablo HAD was the massive lag of the 1° day, but that was obvious, and if you really waited till the midnight of the 15, then you are a real fan, or just stupid (I don't mean to offend anybody), because the only thing we knew was that playing on day one was going to be a nightmare.

This game is as addicting as the first two in the series. People who claim that there is no character customization are simply incorrect. You are able to customize your character's abilities by simply checking a box in the options screen. This opens up a whole new world of possibilities. Simply put, if you enjoyed Diablo I and II, you'll love this game. The procedurally-generated levels are gorgeous, the combat is challenging, and after the rather linear feel of the first few quests, the game opens up quite a bit. The only reason I'm giving it a 9 instead of a ten is that you have to get quite far into the game for most of these options to open up, so people who have only played for 30 minutes will naturally feel restricted. One could say that Blizzard has overloaded the endgame to the point where new players might feel neglected. Probably the most disturbing feature of the game is the online-only play. Expand

There's something wrong when Blizzard is shipping a game that's not finished. The moment I got into the beta, I was underwhelmed. The graphics were blurry; my character and foes alike lacked detail. I know Blizzard strives to have games run on all machines, but Diablo 3 looks worse than Titan Quest, which is a much older game (with a map editor.)

I thought the constant achievements were stupid, but to each his own.

I can put this to the back of my mind, but now the game is out and I can't even play because Blizzard's servers are down for routine maintenance. When it is up, I disconnect often and generally have 1-3 seconds of lag ( I don't have the best internet.) My girlfriend has been complaining that the game keeps failing to save her progress.

Somehow I forgave them for doing this to Starcraft II, partly because I don't lag on it, but now I've had enough. This new Blizzard doesn't have the magic that the earlier generation possessed, and they can't make up for (I'm assuming/hoping) Activision's horrible decisions. I realize a good deal of my problems are technical, and some may be sorted out later, but I didn't buy the game later. I pre-ordered it. If this was some small indie developer doing a kickstarter, I wouldn't mind. But this is one of the biggest, most funded AAA developers in the industry. This game isn't worth 60 dollars to me.

It's pretty terrible that the error 37 destroys chances of logging on. I mean seriously, Blizzard's insanity with DRM and not calling it DRM is a pretty massive stroke against it. Its because its a newer revamped version. Don't like it? Cry about it somewhere else. Don't taint the name of Blizzard just because you can't get on the servers to play the game, and especially don't taint the name of Blizzard because you don't like how they make their games. That's like saying, "Hey man! Can I have some of your milk?" to your best mate, then throwing the milk back in your best mates face saying, "Dude, that tastes like Sh*t"

I will admit, the only thing that has slightly unimpressed me so far in this game has been the server unavailability, but that's not forever; in fact, its already cleared up, with some short maintenance breaks inbetween. Good things come to those who wait, and I am sure Blizzard will continue to deliver.

Game-play wise, this game delivers the full hack-and-slash experience that people love, and the classes and amazing. From what I've seen, the "Witch Doctor" class is a must-play if you have a quirky sense of humor. Nothing more funny than watching exploding toads kill minions.

    There a plenty of side quests, and the game is very re-playable. About the removal of attribute points and skill points;
The newer system is a lot cleaner, a lot more easily accessible, and you don't get that moment in battle going "**** **** **** wheres my (insert skill name here)!?!?!111!?one!" moments.
There are still a lot of skills to utilise and customize between, and they all have their different uses.

Playing fairly casual for a die-hard diablo fan, I've hit level 40 on a Demon Hunter, and like I said, have been impressed by the game so far. I've already said to my mates that I am looking forward to the sequel, Keep doing what you do Blizzard, and don't let these whinge bags bring you down.

Also, as a last note; millions of people have bought this game. Yes, we are all annoyed about server instability, but in case you haven't seen, only 1674 (as of the time that I am posting this review)people have come to meta-critic to badmouth and rant about the game. These are probably the people that wanted something to whine about in the first place, or just aren't getting laid enough! Guess what the other millions of people are doing? Playing the game they bought, and having a smashing time.

Read them if you must but when someone says: "It's not as good as it could've been and there are a few flaws and I've only played Act 1...", yet gives it a 10, ask yourself some questions. I give it a 6. Why? Because it's a good, fun, playable (when connected!) game. It's not special, it doesn't bring anything new, it's not that pretty. The soundtrack is awesome but some sound effects are clearly from Diablo 1-2! My score is based on the product in relation with the price. 60$ for a game that looks like the old one, plays like the old one and feels like the old one isn't right. The first Act is mostly populated by the same monsters in Diablo 1-2. It also lacks polishing in some places, animations can be rough and the physics engine can be buggy. You can slap enemies out of the screen with low power attacks (they don't even die from that), some items will be sent spinning everywhere at crazy speeds. There is some rubber-banding, probably due to the fact that the servers are under lots of stress. The cut-scenes are excellent. The main problems are the need of a constant (and consistent) internet access which I believe was justified by the ability to buy (with real money) items making the game accessible mostly to people living in urbanized areas, the fact that it's basically the same game than before and the graphics which are not really up to date (even on maximum settings). It's like justifying a 60$ Solitaire/minesweeper game. I mean everyone played solitaire/minesweeper and it's a fun game...but you wouldn't pay for it! I expect to finish the game a second or third time as it's not really long either, a good game, but far from what was expected. Doesn't have the immersion of Skyrim, the excitement of Battlefield 3, the depth or SimCity 4. Funny thing is, as I try to compare this game to something somewhat recent, I can only think of games like Marvel, Ultimate Alliance: Hack, slash, loot, mission briefing "break", repeat. The difficulty and the joy of destroying daemons will be the only incentive to keep playing. In a nutshell, Diablo 2.5 at full price, plus the fact that you can't play when you don't have access to internet is limiting. Expand

When Activision bought blizzard, I sort of knew things would change, but what I have seen to this day still shocks me. It was definitely a move for the worse. I mean look at the new WoW expansions (I dont play, but pandas? really? I know its in warcraft III, but come the hell on.)

I love the dark look of DII, and you can tell they completely strayed away from it. For the worse in my opinion

    so here we go

    1. Gameplay. The hack and slash is fun, and the on screen visuals make it so. WIth explosions and fireballs, etc. The game is too easy. Less than 18 hours of gameplay time, and I was done with normal mode. This is insane. They should have made the acts a little more in depth, I mean its a massive story about good and evil, but the story flow was absolutely awful. The skill system is awful too. You have no real choice on character build anymore, and you have no consequences for building a **** character. I could solo diablo with a witchdoctor, with 4 people in game at the end, and only level 30. I find this to be too easy. Gameplay gets a 6/10

    2. Graphics: The graphics are ok. I give the graphics on this game a 5/10. The world looks good, but you start noticing minor details that are missing, or dont make sense. And the 3/4 camera angle isnt too great. I do like the 3d environments, but they could have done more. We should have been able to rotate the camera. All we have is a zoom feature which is completely worthless. Graphics get a 5/10

    3. Sound: The soundtrack in the beginning is great. It reminded me of DII, and the fact I was going back in to fight the demons of hell, to save mankind. But about halfway through the game, I stopped noticing the sound, which causes me to think it is really bland. Sound gets a 5/10

    4. Online Experience: I am rating the online experience separately, because frankly, it is lacking, and should be a whole other component to the game. There is little online experience here for a multiplayer game. Where are the guilds? where are the battle arenas? The rewards for completing challenges? Things like that? Who cares about earning some achievement that really leads you to a stupid banner unlock? Online Experience gets a 3/10.

This game to me BARELY edges out a 6/10 rating. Blizzard is known for there amazing games, but they have fell extremely short on this, to the point that I really do not think they can recover the diablo franchise.

My disappointment comes from the game itself. Lets start off with the "art style" or graphics which are blatant copy of WoW's. This art style worked back in 2004, heck I'll even say it was genius for an MMO, it allowed lower end PC's somewhat get through raids that required 40 NPCs at a time. But it just doesn't work for Diablo, it doesn't capture that Diablo feel and for a 2012 game, I expected more. I just don't get that dreaded sense that something is about to go wrong when I enter the depths of some old dungeon. The graphics are colorful and cartoony and they don't belong in the Diablo Universe.

Skills, continuing with their copy and paste system from WoW they did not disappoint, the game feels like playing a top down version of WoW, WHERE IS THE DIABLO GAME I PURCHASED!? This game has always been about loot, and still is but managing your skill/runes/talent tree was part of the fun and added lots of depth to the game. They have completely abandoned this style of play, in other words the game is a dumbed down version of its former glory. By removing this it is only natural that Diablo fans feel that their decision to remove this was mainly based off their Real Money Auction House. Where money is the driving force and Mr. Bobby CEO of Activision can line his pockets full of real money from people purchasing digital items. Way to stick it to us PC gamers Blizzard, it's still Blizzard making these abomination of games and xpacs (Cata/MoP) right? Right?

Blizzard I ask you, where has your TALENT in making games gone?

Gameplay is just as bad, arrows point me the way to EVERYTHING, I mean EVERYTHING, a damn monkey could play this game. They pretty much don't want you to explore anymore, well that is kinda also made obvious by the small maps/zones. Get rid of your director and give us back the guys that made Diablo what it was, yes the Diablo that made Blizzard what it is.

I enjoyed watching your 20 year celebration videos of Blizzard and Co. Happy to see that your love for gaming brought us gamers unbelievable games that we enjoyed for years and years. But with games like this, and your obvious slaps to the face on your gaming community. I just don't see another 20 for Blizzard. I purchased 3 copies of this disaster to enjoy with my family, and I don't see that happening. Should I have waited for a review of this game before purchasing? Sure but this is DIABLO, past records show that you cannot go wrong buying this or any product from Blizzard. I was wrong.

After having slaughtered my way to ACT I's first boss, and as he stands up, I get disconnected with my Hardcore Monk being killed in the process due to the delayed logout. These problems and the nature of online requirements for Diablo III practically makes it impossible to participate in the Hardcore side of things. Get disconnected (admittedly a few times were due to my ISP), your Hardcore Character is guaranteed dead. Diablo III is another plain-as-day instance where despite how good the core game is, the always-online component forces players to content with disconnects and even literal lag spikes (not framerate, but lag) even when playing solo. Playing my own private game I was watching my ping jump from 250ms (which is absurd in it's own right) to over 400ms resulting in getting hit from distances.||||
I love Blizzard, and while Diablo III in itself has simplified mechanics (as in no stat point spending, no skill tree investments or character designs) in a number of areas, it's still a fun game to play when it works. The bottom line is that it doesn't work well enough for a game with $60 attached to it. Torchlight II comes out next month and hopefully will allow me to enjoy a Hardcore mode where MY stupidity is what causes character death, not technical issues.

I can not in good faith give this game a score higher than 0 with the awful DRM. With DRM games gets a 0; without DRM game gets a 3. And the only reason I say three is because the background music to the installer was good, the rest of the game is a watered-down, WoW dungeon crawler. This IS NOT DIABLO. Pass on this one and save $60

Simply put. This game is everything I could have hoped for! It still feels like Diablo while adding tones of new features! The servers went down the first two days, but I feel that should not impact the games over all quality or review. Anyway aside from the trolling idiots, the game lives up to the hype. The graphics are really nice, animations are awesome, and it is a huge upgrade from Diablo 2. Everything looks nice and finely crisp. Game play is really fun and it gets even more fun when the difficulty is turned up a notch especially when you are playing with friends. Everything is balanced and really the only disappointed is not being able to pvp yet but thats fine. Plus if this is supposedly "WoW inspired clone" I'd much rather play this than pay $15 a month to fight with pandas...just saying. Diablo III is a massive disappointment. Disregard the fact that the player must have internet access in order to play, because that was a well known fact long before the game was released. The reason this game is such a letdown is simply because it has lost sight of its origins. Diablo III is casual, short, and an insult to longtime fans.

But the game gets MUCH (!!!) better after the Skeleton King and if you are getting close to lvl 15. It is almost an entirely different game compared to the kindergarten up to the first major boss, Skeleton King. DO NOT make the mistake and play "a few hours" or using Guest pass to lvl 10...and then form an opinion based on this. If you didnt play the game to at least lvl 15 you have no idea how good the game could be.

While playing in co-cop (2 or 3 people) proved immense fun so far, i personally have some things which i would like respective dislike.
I really would wish an ability to zoom-in/out since i think the two, fix zoom levels are very restrictive. Yes, as others i would wish to be able to customize my character as well. I would also wish more emotes (i know, it sounds silly)....but playing with former guildies from WoW and not being able to dance, laugh etc. makes me feel restricted. AFTER ALL, it is still "sort of" an online game and the real fun truly shines playing with mates and friends - this is why i want more emotes.

As for the graphics, as i said above the game gets MUCH better after Skeleton King, also visually. There are some things like over-use of fog..but overall the graphics are GOOD and some/most of the spells and animations (monsters) are fantastic. Seriously, there is not much to complain. The voice acting is also good (IMHO).....sometimes it is cheesy but it fits this genre.

People should stop giving this game a 0 or 1, it's entirely and absolutely uncalled for. It can be a HELL of fun. it's not perfect, no, but good for many, many hours of co-op fun. It's a solid game and people need to realize this. PLAY IT before you trash it.

Every barbarian is going to have the same skills and powers as every other barbarian; every demon hunter is going to have the same skills and powers as every other demon hunter, and so on. The ONLY way to differentiate characters at this point is through gear - hence the emphasis on artisans and paying real money for good gear.
