    One word: DATED.

I can't believe all the positive reviews from "estbalishment" sites. This game is dated in plot, execution, and all sorts of peripherals. Can't change camera angle, graphics are dated and yet hog resources, there is 0 replayability unless you want to redo the one main storyline multiple times... This was a good game 15 years ago, and unfortunately nothing has changed.

I was shocked by how dated this game is, and I don't even have to mention the online issues.

Beautifully crafted game play and stunning visuals... but that's where it stops. This game has missed the mark on so many levels. It pains me to dislike it as much as I do. Boring! There is nothing new that wow hasn't done before (aside from the story). Same graphics, same gameplay, same missions, etc. I'm also bored of the lack of real action just click click and loot.

Some of the systems were developed with attracting new players to the game but they just went too overbord with it and in the process dumbing down the game. Understanding that diablo 2 was such a awesome, kick ass game it was going to hard to top but they didn't even come close to it and it took them 11 years to produce this pile of trash. Blizzard released a glowing press statement about the record sales figures of Diablo 3 with this paragraph included. 'we're especially proud of the gameplay feedback we've received from players worldwide'. It must be nice to be this intentionally ignorant of how customers feel about the DRM measures they have had forced down their throats. The only option if you want to be free of this type of business decision is to not buy the game. (or look to the hackers to come up with a crack for off line single players) Unfortunately we all bought Diablo 3 anyway, knowing that the DRM was in the bargain. I guess it took buying it to truly understand how terrible the DRM is. Well, once bitten twice shy. Blizzard's attitude coupled with awful DRM and a just about above average game equals a 1/10 for me. It is a shame that gaming is hitting these all time lows... Expand

........ 1/10 OVERALL score. This game is LITERALLY terrible. fun game to play, yes. but not for long. the internal story and shallow thought that put this game together is mediocre. and with 10+ years? all they did was make Diablo 2 for those with IQ of 50 or below and add better graphics and new characters...

But I was in heaven at that point. Also got comments about "here in the keep" when I was not in the keep any longer. May seem like a small thing but it kills suspension of disbelief, and after 12 years.... they didn't notice or care about that? Other dialogue is so cheesy it goes way beyond what's allowed these days in a top-tier title. Gameplay is feeling very repetitive.
Also I get logged out with error 3007 about every 2 hours, with no reply from Blizzard on that one. That does kill some of the fun.

unlike D2, it had no itemization, map customization, and character customization.
The story is short, the map is small, and removed many good elements in D2.
Obviously, Blizzard is just hurry to sell the incomplete game to player. Oh, the A.I. in the game is crap too.

I am not commenting on any server-related issue as it is irrelevant to the gameplay itself. Graphics do not determine how good a game is, only how modern it is. Graphics do not determine how good a game is, only how modern it is. These are the main issues with the game. Your weapon-damage is increased by 1% for each point in your primary stat (E.g. Strength for Barbarians, Dexterity for Monks and Demon Hunters and Intelligence for Witch Doctor and Wizard). This makes this the most treasured stat in a strong character, and survivability being secondary. Occasionally, you find randomly created items with a set number of random attributes, all of these are worthless unless they have a massive amount of your primary stat, or directly increased weapon-damage. Finding optimal items are hard, I like that (+1), but, finding legendary items that have been specifically designed for your character, level and playing style is much harder and when you finally do, that weapon is bound to end up on the 'Auction House' as there are always randomly created items that have better properties. How did it become so primitive that so few stats matter to a player? I personally believe it's because they removed the 'skill tree'-system they had in the previous games. We used to find items with rarer attributes like +1 to , which would boost all the stats of that specific skill, sometimes it would increase all skills under a specific tree, or all skills in general... there is no replacement for this. Players realize this and can easily buy mid-level legendary items after simply collecting 'gold' from level 1 till 10. In short, finding a legendary item does not provide any kind of joy, as they are worthless and have inferior stats to many randomly created items. There is also the matter of unbalance. Surely, anyone who has entered either of the 2 hardest difficulties agree that 'elite mobs' (general enemies that have rare attributes to make them extraordinary) are harder than the actual bosses, they have the capabilities to slay your character with one blow and survive hundreds of blows, making them deadlier than the end-bosses on the same difficulty. Glitches/Bugs/Exploits Haven't seen many of them, they are quickly patched (+1). Experimenting with broken mechanics by sinking unnatural amounts of points into non-primary stats, making characters overpowered by other means is unrewarding, as this is always fixed. All characters are apparently supposed to be the same and follow a strict meta-build (-1). The biggest issue (in my opinion). This game was made for World of Warcraft fans, not for Diablo fans, this is seen and felt through each and every (but in different amounts) aspect of the game. That's understandable, World of Warcraft had a bigger playerbase than Diablo, except we all hate it when the greed for money is more important than the experience itself. They trust money, not fans. This is not the first time Activision Blizzard let their players down for the sake of money, it's seen in Modern Warfare 2, Black Ops, Starcraft 2, Modern Warfare 3, Diablo 3 and we will probably see the same **** in Black Ops 2. In conclusion, it's a shallow game; Under the hood, under all the visuals and other distractions, in it's core - this game is as mentally stimulating as throwing a frisbee by yourself, oh, it's also designed for WoW fans, not Diablo fans. In any crowd, I could point out at least 3 people that could say what they could have done to easily increase customer satisfaction. Congratulations Blizzard, you have gone full retard. This article has the score adjusted, the previous post was set at a 0 score, while I meant to give Diablo 3 it's justified 1 out of 10. Expand

I have played Diablo 1 and 2 for almost 14 years now, im a huuge fan of diablo 2, and i had a very solid and formed idea of what i was expecting Diablo 3 to be. What a huge dissapointment. No consistent with the original storyline, even character classes are out of place with the franchise. The paladin represented the antagonism needed in the diablo world, as the necromancer was the opposite. That leaves the monk and the witch doctor somewhat lost in between, with no clear roles whatsoever in the game, at leas if we consider Diablo 2 to be our starting point. The skill tree, if it can be called a tree at all, its nothing more than an illusion, you just unlock abilities, that in the end, are nothing more than extentions of your weapon damage, yes, its true believe it or not, the damage the sorcerer deals is a direct effect of the weapon you are actually wielding, and your powers deal a percentage of your weapons damage, so idiotic is this system, that ray of frost (the first ray you get) deals 200 something percent of your weapon damage, while disintegrate (the last ray you get) deals 178 ish percent damage.........less damage!!! being the last ray!!. Graphics: no idea at all of what they wanted, in art, teachers usually tell you "keep a simple design in mind, and work it out". Diablo 2 was this, a simple catacomb or cathedral design was all you needed, work on the details (blood on the floor, some torture items) and you get a pretty credible and scary setting, in diablo 3 its like they just threw everything they could think of in a single room, fire sprouting from the floor, colorful enemies spawned from some anime or mu online setting, and pastel tones that are totaly out of place with the original idea, give us back the plain and simple designs of diablo 2, a really simple design, which when developed in the right direction, is much more effective than a modern graphics engine, i hope i get my point. Items: item randomizer, good, although i miss the runes and i also miss the items which gave +1/2/3 to certain skills, i dont like the armor and weapon design, again, wowish and childish looking, tower shield is a shield made form two smaller pieces glued together in the middle, leaving a space between them, what kind of shield leaves a space by which arrows can pass or swords can cut you open.......more senseless use of aesthetics, when the functionality of the item should dictate the form, that makes it more credible, again, simple ideas, and then work them out, why not a simple shield with intrincate logos and faces? instead of a shield which has no functionality as a shield?. Monsters: horrible design, once again, keep it simple blizzard, overdressed knights and angels, this is diablo not world of warcraft, shinning armors and clothes doesnt help building up the atmosphere, again anime style, childish kind of game, not a single enemy had the grottesque look of..........lets use the word again.....the grotesques of diablo 2...those who vomited little spawns in 4th act. Oh and before i forget...........Diablo...........slim and alien like boss, walks like a woman in sports illustrated, moving its tail in a kinda sensual way. Overall, instead of keeping the good stuff from diablo2 and getting out the cons......the took away some great stuff (old classes for example and skill trees) and added some really bad stuff (graphic design and over simplicity). I just finished the game in order to be able to write this review. Expand

And thats just the start, Bugs galore, even though the graphics are medicore it slows down the most powerfal machines, Online public gameplay is full of bugs and security holes where hackers can steal your account, been hacked already.

The Auction house barely works and is full of bugs, you'll search for items and have random items or no items show up based on your filters, sometimes when you sell items you never get the gold, also the real money system just ruins the value of items and the economy, because money is cheap super powerful items are easy to acquire just ruining the difficulty curve, the game is horrendously easy and not a challenge.

This game is only partly finished, they never included the pvp system, and when you get to the last Act in the game it is plainly horribly obvious from the level design, graphics, monsters, storyline, even items where just missed mashed together at the last moment. I swear the last part of the game is so horrible you find it hard to finish, let me iterate again it so plainly and horribly obvious at the low level or horrible quality of work at the final act that this game is not finished.

What I wasn't expecting was a game that I would require constant internet connectivity with the absence of of a basic single player mode along with an integrated auction house which eliminates all trading games(which sucksss!!!). The mere inability to create custom games that are labeled and available to see and join is a jump in the complete opposite direction of what I consider the best game I have ever played which is diablo 2. Let me remind everyone that the characters in this game are INFERIOR to the classic must have characters of the last game. Really a monk over a paladin? But of course I want to pay for another expansion just to get the cool characters later right? Yes! The auctionhouse itself is a double edged sword as it provides quick easily accessible items which takes all of the fun and struggle out of getting new gear. As nice as it is to be able to get the items that you want quick, if you are a former d2 player you know what I'm talking about. Instead of the market being flooded with every type of item (one man's trash is another's treasure) people would simply not pick up every worthless item they found since the items had to be traded or sold for gold. In my opinion blizzard got too greedy and ruined that whole aspect of the game (which is a HUGE aspect of the game to me). The cap at four heroes per game is also a bummer as that is half the amount of characters allowed in the last game.Of course I could find more things to scrutinize, but I believe I have covered the main points which clearly show I will not be playing this game ten years later or four different times over the span of ten years like I did with the jewel of diablo 2. Not only is this a cheap trick, but a desecration of the unholy Diablo franchise. The skills are blatant and uninspiring. Every skill can be modified with a specific rune, adding some extra damage, knockback etc. The graphics are cratoon-inspired (surprise surprise...), which might be good for someone. To me, it is disgusting. I have played WoW, why should I play it again? The player models and textures are blurred and very low-tech, not something you expect of a game in 2012.

And so we come to the requirement of being online all the time... Well, someone likes it, but I do not. The reason I am writing this text right now is because I can't log into the game and it pisses me off. I payed money for something I cannot play whenever I want, even though it is defined as partially a "single player game". Ye right... I have friends who want the game but cannot buy it because they have very unstable net connection. Explains how much "thinking" Blizzards designers did.

All in all, this game should have been delayed for another 2-3 years and remade completely. I do not understand why they would choose to use a game engine that is soon to be 8-9 years old, and top it off with a stupid online requirement. Just separate the damn SINGLE and MULTI player parts of the game! Who cares if you have to make another char if you wanna play online? I certainly do not, and 90% of the people who play the game do not. You failed hard this time Blizzard, I have not even completed the game before I uninstalled it. The game is an unplayable mess, weeks after its release. Unable to log in, being booted out of a single player game, and an unrewarding experience when finally being able to play make this game a terrible disappointment.
I am new to the Diablo series, and I am not impressed. Blizzard might have sold its last blockbuster game.

Graphic and storyline are great. The rest suxx. Boss drops no rare loot after normal. Legendary items are worse then magic/rare. Servers don't work for DAYS. Drops are always for lower level then character is, so you doomed to hunt AH. New "cow level" is incredibly stupid.

Enhanced graphics and great cinematics. That are the two cool points of Diablo 3.
The rest is a crappy version of Diablo 2. Bad story, bad character development, awfull loot system, obligatory use of AH to get decent stuff for inferno mode, unsatisfactory play experience after normal mode... 'nough said.

Played 50+ hours. In inferno act 2. Hate bad loot system and the requirement to use AH. And the constant connection / game creatoin errors.

I want my loot from hard bosses - not farm gold and then go buy them from AH. This should be fun - not work.

If i could get my money back i would stop here and get the refund.

it is difficult to enjoy a game that for most of the time cannot be played since it works in the online mode only. Connection issues are seen a daily basis with the general player's frustration hitting the zenith. Very disappointing result for such a hugely anticipated and long awaited game.

I was very annoyed when Starcraft 2 required me to be online every so often to validate single player. However, in practice it never affected me and I was able to enjoy the game. Diablo 3 does not even have this lame option. The player has no offline gameplay mode. Blizzard has found a way to introduce lag and their server problems into single player games, way to go Blizzard! The game feels like it has a lot of potential. It would appear to me that they have the engine and a campaign finished, and now need to flesh out much more of the world. I would like to see more done with the item system and the drop rates. The item system feels boring, especially gems, which are the only item I know of that you can put into a socket. The drop rate currently does not feel rewarding. Killing bosses on everything but inferno feels a bit disappointing, I always feel as if I am not rewarded for killing the boss. Heck, even a lot of gold would feel more rewarding.

I feel as if the current battle.net system takes away any sense of community. This is probably just my take, but I find it harder to participate with other users socially using the Diablo 3 system, when compared to other games. It is a personal preference I'm sure, but it bothers me and might you.

The story felt like a bad comic book, but Diablo 3 was never about the story. The lore was more interesting and I felt as if this was handled well.

I do not understand everyone complaining about the colors in the game. I felt as if everything looked nice. Yes, I was a little disappointed with the graphics when I saw the game. Given the many years this has been worked on, I expected stunning graphics, instead I felt like I was rewarded with modern day Diablo 2 graphics. Not a big deal to me, things do not look bad, I just expected more given the long development times.

The constant server problems are inexcusable. They had plenty of time to look into and test this. It is even worse when we consider the fact that we have no other option, when Blizzard cant get their crappy servers running, we all pay. We even payed Blizzard for this privilege.

I was going to purchase copies for the kids to play with me. Given the state of the game, I can not justify the expense. I will wait until the price is cheaper and the quality of the game improves. I wish I would have waited on my own copy...

Ok so I get over that and then I have to play infantile normal mode, revealing the whole story line, talk about spoilers and find out nightmare is not so hard and I have to do it over and over again for each character. Talk about boring. Drops don't get better in nightmare mode, they get worse. Everything else is basically done for you, most decisions are taken out of your hands and little customization for the characters. The game play is great but such a disappointment in all other areas. Issues with the game:
-Linear maps (little randomization; in contrary to what was promised pre-launch)
-Not possible to travel between acts, feels very confined
-Terrible story plot, awful dialogue, undermining and completely ruining very important characters from the previous Diablo games.
-Boring cut-scenes that get very repetitive after completing normal difficulty
-Loot system completely broken -Monsters' skills randomized (very little thought into it, and very uncreative)
-In Hell/Inferno there is little consideration for monsters' damage, a lot of instant kills -Bosses are too easy and drop loot that is comparable with ordinary mobs
-Diablo himself looks like a woman with large hips (why have you ruined him?)
-Servers unreliable, always getting errors when trying to log in

Blizzard has completely undermined and spat on a large fan base that has been eagerly and faithfully awaiting this game for years. Cheers.

I Feel it is fair to compare this to a Subscription MMO, since it requires online servers to be played, The problem is this is where the similarity ends and also Blizzards incentive to please their customers or fix it quickly. They have already collected plenty of revenue, and without subscriptions are most unlikely to compensate players in the way that MMOs do during times of such incompetence.

If any owners of the game are reading this please take the time to post your views, positive or negative so that all future buyers get a fair representation of what service they are buying.

This is the issue with critic reviews, they buy a product to use once and discard after a few hours, true customers buy a prolonged service, and this is what blizzard are failing to deliver

Let me explain: For 2999 to 5999 gold I find super-decent items that are tailored to the needs of my nightmare character. So the excitement I felt back in Diablo 2, whenever a rare item droped, is just not there anymore. - Now I buy everything I want to use in the auctionhouse anyways. 3) The Smith and especially the Jeweller are completely useless: I can buy all the Jewels I need in the auctionhouse. - For a fraction of the cost that I need to pay to just upgrade the Jeweller!!! Now that can't be a desired game mechanic! 4) No chance of preventing my "friends" to see if I'm online or not? What were you thinking when you added that feature? I don't want anyone to know exactly how long and how often I play a game. 5) The story is... well... not really catching. It feels more like a b-class game then one of the most anticipated RPGs of all times. 6) I was really disconent about the graphics. Don't get me wrong: I like the colorful style. Yes, it isn't dark, but it fits the game. What I don't like: On my 30" screen (and on high settings) the game's textures just look old. Especially the characters just don't have the detail that I'd expect to see in a 2012 game. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm very disappointed in this game.

Story - Killing Cain? Come on now. How can the consistent character of ALL DIABLO'S just die during the first act? I imagined Cain to be more heroic, maybe a sacrifice in Act 4 to save Leah that traded his soul for her life. That would have been amazing, but the only sacrifice we saw was Tyreal becoming a (useless) mortal. He didn't even do much to arrive and help. Also, Leah was beautiful and while I was getting excited for her character development, she just turns into Diablo and we melt her face. Thanks Blizzard for creating a main character that added nothing to the experience. Gameplay - The game is very tedious, you're just farming & buying on AH. The excitement to pick up a drop/identify an item was not the same as WoW or D2. As I got to Hell Act 2, I started hating the farm + AH combo, didn't even want to deal with that for leveling another character. The character progression has been simplified to the point that any idiot could play, with 4 button & 2 mouse, there wasn't much of a plethora of options/abilities you could roll out. One of the joys of D2 was having a huge inventory of spells that could be cast for different situations, we're fed a 1-dimensional skillset.

    Cinematic's - Great quality, blizzard never disappoints. That's why I gave a solid 1.

Games nowadays have evolved so much, that our expectations are through the roof. Here is a list of games that were better: Dragon Age, Skyrim and WoW. I'm sure there are more.

Diablo 3 is a garbage collection simulator with a dumbed-down, uber-monetized Diablo clone tacked on as an afterthought, featuring TWO great big tacky gift shops full of overpriced crap conveniently located by the EXIT.

In a game about loot drops you can go to level 60 without ever finding a viable upgrade. Loot drops are deliberately withheld in order to force players to purchase all upgrades at the Auction House, for a 15% transaction fee. The loot you do find all has completely useless stats, and 10-15 levels lower than you throughout the game, providing the carrot on a stick. The entire game is loaded with conspicuously large money sinks that offer the false promise of another route to obtaining viable equipment, but end up costing a fortune and never end up providing any practical benefit.

The game makes extensive use of procedurally generated content, the product of random number generators, without any apparent thought given to whether the resulting content makes any sense. Examples: item stats uniformly suck, maps aren't very random at all, elite monster pack super-powers bypass skill and stats entirely. The "Inferno" difficulty setting seems to be little more than "a place-holder of infinite difficulty" to provide Blizzard time to finish the game after release, but of course players beat it right away and found that the loot there sucks as much as it has all along.

It is grind-tastic and cartoony pastel, as though it was made by the World of Warcraft team. Oh wait, it was!

At every opportunity for the game to reward the player, it instead rewards Activision/Blizzard. It is perverse. Do not buy. The game itself feels like it could have been slapped together in a year and every design decision appears to have favored their micro-transaction scheme over game design principles and player enjoyment.

While a major loot overhaul might make this game a lot more bearable to play in the short term, I do not expect to see meaningful changes in the near future, and even so it would certainly not be enough to make this game worthy of the name it bears. Activision has spent a fortune on marketing and buying positive mainstream reviews. I expect they will rely on that investment and generally refuse to acknowledge that this release is an utter disaster, so long as people are still buying it because they don't know any better. Don't be that guy.

Path of Exile is a much better game, currently in beta, and its developers are opposed to "PAY2WIN".

For a while I thought the blacksmithing might be a nice touch, but you can't actually craft much gear for your own use. The random attributes negates all benefit of crafting. Not to mention that training and increasing the level of both blacksmithing & gemcrafting carries over to ALL your characters. That alone removes another challenge of starting a new character...just have your main craft all the gear you need (which will cost a fortune to finally get the attributes you want) and then stick them in the communal stash. The auction house is a joke, there is minimal map randomization, rare items are useless, no single player play...the list goes on.

This game has some nice idea and good potential but ended up a rushed, sloppy and lazy attempt to cash in on the series success. A whole sea of bugs, security flaws and server issues ruin what would otherwise be an enjoyable game.

Don't be fooled by the "professional" review sites shamelessly paid off as per usual for Blizzard games. Give this one a miss until Blizzard get their act together.

D3 is a poorly executed WoW clone, that lacks a rich multiplayer experience. All of the customers have spoken, and most of them are saying BOO!!! (excluding the WoW fanboys.) In closing I would like to say that D3 is not just a flop, it was an attempt to capatalize on the biggest name in PC gaming. An epic failure to be sure, when the only people who are happy are the ones that left WoW to play. Expand

If this DRM nonsense is the "future of gaming" count me out. Blizzard needs to be prepared to live up to their end of the bargain with real, live 24hr support if they're going to pull this kind of shenanigans. Even though I like the game, the experience of trying to play it has been so thoroughly unpleasant that I just sit here getting more and more angry about my wasted $60. To the three of you who haven't bought in yet, DON'T. I will not be surprised if Blizzard's effort to "combat piracy" winds up costing them so much more than piracy would have. They must be hemorrhaging money right now dealing with the colossal volume of trouble tickets, server outages, hacks, not to mention the long term effect of such awful PR. In this case, the "cure" is obviously worse than the disease. And if not, then D3 will go down in history as the greatest, most successful bait-&-switch con of all time.

Check points and inability to play when Blizzards computers are not working is also at the detriment of the player.

The 'innovation' completely breaks the ability to build customized characters. All the skill thus is removed. You can at any point copy another players build and it hampers game progress as many high level skills are completely useless and you often resort to level 30 skills in inferno. Skill progression should at least improve with the rune system which it fails to do. In addition you cannot build a character to you play style as you cant level a specific skill or character traits.

Balancing is a lie. Melee characters get raped in inferno and have almost no damage output and range players have impressive spam but shatter in 1 hit kills in any act higher than act 1 inferno.

Loot drops are broken and you end up having to use the auction house which was likely intended to feed Blizzard real currency auction house money. Bosses on replay tend to drop nothing better than creatures from the previous Game.

Graphics are very Blizzard, approximately 5 years behind the current technology and capacity.

The game was rushed and act 4 is only about 1/4 the length of act 1 or 2.

I would not recommend you buy this game even as a die hard Diablo fan. Just get Diablo II and live in blissful ignorance. What Blizzard did to Diablo III is a travesty. The whole game is broken, support and availability is broken and none of the old elements (besides yes its a hack and slash) remain that brought in all the pre-purchase sales. Sadly it isn't even a equal quality update Diablo III it is a torn apart and shredded remnant of a once great genre with nothing more than its name to even make it worth mentioning. Do not listen to the critics! This is not an 89 / 100 game this is realistically if it weren't a big title nothing higher than a 45 / 100.

But is that really all there is to it? I've played D1/D2 and have finished and enjoyed those multiple times but what made those games stand out and acquired a cult following seems to have been lost in D3. I'm not even gonna mention the DC's and server stuff because those are fixable, in fairness to Blizzard. Upon playing this game a lot because of it's "fundamentally" fun gameplay, and I use the term loosely, I can't help myself in the back of my mind feeling cheated. It seems that this "Always-Online" thing is forced upon the consumer to make sure that their asses are covered for delivering an unpolished product. Think of it as ordering delivery for a pizza. They send it to your house, without most of the toppings and the delivery guy occasionally puts toppings on it as you notice it while eating. Terrible.

They also mentioned the online setting is to promote coop and to fight gold-sellers and outside seeling from third-party sites and what-not. But they have a real currency auction house for Christ-sakes, they want you to spend your money on them, not on some god-forbidden site where they have no share from the earnings.

The way the loot is spread and supposedly "randomized", somehow I felt cheated. I have 3 level 60 characters and you don't get what you need, ever. You get crap or what other classes need. Hence me making 3 Chars. Seriously, the AH has been my friend and I couldn't have survived without it. How will I have gold? Yes, grinding. Now, I don't mind grinding but when you're digging through the ground with a teaspoon to find an ever so slightly bigger teaspoon to dig with, well you get the picture. They got you playing for a long time and almost always never getting a feeling of satisfaction.

Maybe I'm a noob, maybe you're the greatest player in D3, but one thing is clear. D3 is made with business in mind. They don't care really care about you, all they care is you clocking a million hours doing the same things so they can get more of your money. From the bottom of my best judgment and honesty, I give this game a measly 1/10 for its entirety. After all, the whole is greater than the sum of it's parts. Nuff' said. Thanks for reading. HTH.

    -Gameplay -
Poor balance, starts too easy on normal, then hell champs are unbeatable without buying your way through.
Loot is clearly scripted to be below your level or for a different class, most drops are useless (hatred on sword...), I refuse to go on the online auction to buy items when I want to play solo however the game force you to do that. In that case there is no way to progress other than abusing the AI, avoiding combat or restarting the game to generate easier champs.
There is no real skill involved in beating enemies, point and click really (that or die, restart, die when the enemy champs combo you without any way to react -e.g. paralyse + insta kill area spell)
Poor dungeons layout, no sense of exploring, spend most of the time backtracking (items that increase your speed are a must) with little else happening.
The first two chapters are long enough and don't feel as linear, has some interaction with the environment (only chapter 1 really), however you will notice a big drop in quality for the last 2. I hated doing the 3rd one -feels like a really long corridor toward chapter 4 - and the last chapter although having nice visuals is really too short compared to the others. I am amazed that the story is so short and linear for a games that's been in dev for so long. It's not as if blizz had to start from scratch.
Characters are quite different although one quickly realise their skills are fairly pointless at higher level. And Bliz nerfed a couple of abilities that were used too much apparently (some might call it balancing to me it' killing some of the fun aspect to make it blend. If I want to run set a set of skills I will even if they are not as powerfull as other combo, it's up to me to decide but then again the problem is with the online balance. As shame really in other rpg games it would be up to me to decide if I wanted to change my gaming experience by applying a balance patch or not.

    -Story-
Nothing special but nothing too bad there. Very linear and so predictable, not great fantasy there but I guess the story in this game is secondary, a shame you have to go through it again every time you restart the game at higher level of difficulty (i.e. no random levels to explore) -Re playability -
Nothing here, no random dungeons (clearly the same map with a chance of bringing 2/3 scripted events (i.e. small cellar, merchant) from a pool of ~10), I played the same story with all characters, brought the monk to 60 the games hoping it would get better however it got boring after the 2nd replay
Adding to that random server maintenance (it took an afternoon off work to play and got very frustrating not being able to play a solo game).

    - Other -
Too many hacked account doesn't inspire confidence in Blizzard. for one I see this as a solo game. Blizz has created the security issue by going online and clearly has poor server problems. The game is clearly designed around the auction house instead of what happens ingame.

This is a dumbed down, money making exercise that spectacularly fails to fire at any stage of the game. It looks and feels more like World of Warcraft than part of the Diablo franchise. The auction house ruins any feeling of progress, instead it is just a cycle of "gear check", "kill things", "sell loot for money", "visit auction house". I have played for ~150 hours and have had only one legendary item drop so far and that item was pretty much worthless. The cinematics (usually a strong point for Blizzard) are boring and the dialogue, cut scenes, plot and voice acting are pretty much the worst I have ever seen in a game.

The gameplay and lack of freedom are the real killer though. So you wander around the (not so) random environment killing mobs by inclining your weapon in their general direction and then you are suddenly jumped on by something golden that hits you from off screen and kills you in one shot. Even worse you can't do any damage back as it is invulnerable or shielded, etc. This is not fun. Being forced to kill elite packs is not fun. Making the least fun part of the game the main driver once you hit level 60 is just a vain attempt to make something totally unenjoyable seem more rewarding - it doesn't work.

In summary playing DIII feels like someone is playing a mean joke on you and that at some point a crowd of people will jump up and shout, "fooled you"... then you get to play the "real" game... I am still waiting for this though :'(

Huge disappointment. I've had crashing problems, slowness problems, lag problems.. and those are just the technical issues! The game seems like a money grab. It's not fun. I expected much more for $60.

This game is essentially bereft of playability or reliability. It costs $60, but then they want to nickel and dime the player with RMAH purchases. Even if you buy everything on the RMAH, there is no reason to buy it, because the content is being erased by patches. Its ridiculous.

Do yourself a favor and shop elsewhere. Skip Diablo 3.

the more i am playing and attempting to farm/loot/gear up to making my way through inferno. the worse this game wears on me.increasing repair costs. nerfing the difficulty. then nerfing the drops i was getting..horrible. waiting 12 years. and quit in 4 weeks. now the gold sellers are allowed and encouraged. gold sellers and spam are what ruined diablo2.

Go to the D3 forums on bnet and read most of the user comments. At present time, that will tell you all you need to know before buying this game. If you enjoyed D2, don't expect to enjoy D3 simply based on that or you will be disappointed....

ARPG, ARPG, ARPG, Bliz this is an ARPG!

Not an MMO! Okay you want online only for DRM, whatever, doesn't make this an MMO, I personally didn't care since I played D2 100% online. Okay you want online only for DRM, whatever, doesn't make this an MMO, I personally didn't care since I played D2 100% online.

Who cares if people attack fast, who cares if people want to kill pots for an hour instead of monsters, who cares if people want to farm chests and racks, who cares if people want to be able to mow through mobs with epic gear after farming for 100 hours like D2, who cares if I want to wear a cracked sash and short sword after playing this game 1000 hours and try to kill diablo over a 20 minute period without instantly dieing to some "enrage timer".

People play games to have fun, for an ARPG that means starting as a little level 1 weakling and eventually becoming a god that owns everything with epic gear that they find in a reasonable amount of time.

Want to know how to make an ARPG? See Diablo 2, there must be at least a couple people on your dev team who still understand what made D2 great.

Farm bosses? Who cares, people are having fun.
Farm chests? Who cares, people are having fun.
Farm huge amounts of demons? Who cares, people are having fun.

Nerf this, nerf that, "fix" this, "fix" that. Enrage timers, nerf loot, useless legendaries, forced quests, forced acts, forced force forced, slow attacks, slow runspeed, slow slow, nerf nerf, boring, frustrating, wasted time, NOT FUN. Go back to step 1 in the dev process:
Was Diablo 2 fun or not fun because of awesome overpowered loot? fun
Was Diablo 2 fun or not fun because people could do/farm whatever they wanted? fun
Was Diablo 2 fun or not fun because people felt satisfied with loot drops farming in a variety of ways? fun
Was Diablo 2 fun or not fun for open PvP? fun
Was Diablo 2 fun or not fun because you could "break the game" and carry an 8 person game feeling like a god? fun

Look at D3, everything that was fun is no longer here.

    5% IAS , 10% movespeed , 3% Knockback , 10% reduced crowd control , 50% enhanced damage .

30% IAS , 30% movespeed , 25%-100% knockback , Cannot be Frozen , 250% enhanced damage I'm having so much fun becoming strong!

I just filled the screen with lightning, I just ran to blood raven in 20 seconds, I just owned hordes of hell's mobs, I just tanked baal with 7 other people, I just.. I just.. I just.. had so much fun.

Did the loss of the Worldstone make everything and everyone weak?

    Diablo R.I.P.

P.S. If you loved D2, then everything you enjoyed is gone. If you like slow grinding MMOs with boring loot then you may like this... for a bit. But eventually there will be nothing to do because this isn't an MMO.

Those who have played this beyond hell, and have been with the game since it's beginning will probably agree. This game is terrible. Considering myself a decent player, I have been able to navigate up to act 4 (through many deaths). I can say their design and implementation of creature hit points, damage, and skills (particularly elite creatures) fall far short of par. I suppose I could give an example--in one cause I had a barb in inferno and was constantly being chain frozen and walled with arcane sentries hitting me all at once until I was dead. There was nothing I could do--helpless as a baby. In any case, beyond this you can include their horrid updates. While they did lower creature damage to a small extent, in exchange they gave bosses rages that make them all near to impossible (belial's constant poison pools once he hits around 10% of his life is one example). So in all, instead of nerfing the game, they seemed to have done all they can to make an already extremely difficult setting unplayable. I honestly cannot see what they are trying to do in their game. The overall enjoyment of this game after hell setting is about MINUS 100%. If you're one of those people who has a strongly sadistic nature, I'd say get this game. It has all the abuse you'd need for a full life supply. For the rest of us, I'd say skip it. Expand

Very fun and entertaining game, until you reach inferno difficulty that is. Everything at that point seems to fall out of place and this is where the true nature of the game you bought will reveal itself: that of a buggy, broken, boring, unrewarding and grindy game, not entirely unlike some of the worst free-to-play games out there. Except you paid for this one.

My one major complaint is that the game never feels very difficult, especially on Normal. There are frustrating moments, hordes of baddies, and increasing difficulty levels, but the same feeling of utter defeat never really happens as it did in the past.

For all the game's missteps, though, you certainly can't accuse Blizzard of phoning it in - if anything, the game suffers from the tendency to try a little to hard at times to evolve the design. [Aug 2012, p.61]
