    Dead Space is a shot-for-shot recreation of the original that manages to recapture the 2008 game as you want to remember it — meaning it’s actually better than ever.

    I enjoyed swapping between my old laptop and Steam Deck while playing Dead Space without any issues. Despite a slightly rough launch day, Valve’s Proton fixes have made Dead Space a survival horror essential for Steam Deck owners, and a true tech showcase for the platform.

    It will be an interesting exercise to compare this to the Resident Evil 4 remake and Metroid Prime Remastered, such stylistically or thematically similar titles released within the same quarter, as this being the first out the gate has set a high watermark early on into the year. It wins on its top tier presentation alone, and although it can sometimes feel like that's the main contributor that's modernising the experience, there's a great novelty and appeal to some of its, should we say, relics to game design of the past. Chiefly, relics that are of a focused, directed single-player experience that don't overstay their welcome and don't manipulate the player beyond the experience itself. Let's see how long that one lasts when we're drowning in remakes, shall we?

    Pros:
    + Visuals are outstanding, lightning in particular!
    + Audio design is great with good voice acting from the new and old cast members!
    + Great gameplay improvements!
    + Story while can feel familiar to series veterans still manages to offer surprises!
    + Only minor issues on the PC version.

    Cons:
    - Some occasion traverser stuttering
    - Sorta just left out without any major patching.    … Expand

    Loved the first series back in the day but this game has ofc the anticonsumer horrible DRM malware called Denuvo, plus its overpriced to the moon.
