As someone who never played DS before this is amazing. No complaints for me. The game can stutter here and there but they are very minor and dont happen during combat. Also they game kind of looks fuzzy looking at npcs and monsters from a distance even with maxed out settings but it didnt distract me at all. This game is amazing to play and experience

If Callisto Protocol left a bad taste in your mouth, and you were left wanting space terror, Dead Space Remake has come out very well. Good facelift compared to the original, serving as a magnificent Remake. Care in all its aspects, and adding a little extra content.

In my opinion original Dead Space is one of the greatest Sci-Fi survival horror games ever made. I played it and its followers Dead Space 2 and 3 many times. I am obviously in the initial stages of the game, but first impressions are very positive. Combat feels fluid, music and audio sounds are great,( Isaac Clarke finally has voice!) and as I mentioned already graphics are huge step up over 2008 game. Performance wise the game runs well on my PC (1440p,5800x,3070Ti,32GB,M.2 Drive). Nothing like issues in The Callisto Protocol with low frame rates and stutters when that game was released.I would love to see this game do well so EA let the talented studio from Montreal to remake DS2,3 and possibly work on Dead Space 4. Overall awesome addition to my Epic Games Store library of games. I highly recommend this game for new comers and DS veterans alike and don't forget to play this game with headphones for ultimate immersion. Expand

you can travel across the entire ship at any time and there are lots of new areas to explore and some areas are completely reworked.
The remake also lets you do side quest unlike the OG game.

Sure i have some nitpicks here and there, but that dont make the game bad

I've been running it on PC with a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti, and during regular gameplay my fps didn't drop below 30 fps. There are noticeable stutters when a new area loads though, but apparently that's universal regardless of graphics card. Might get patched. Also, I've encountered a few bugs, like being transported into a black void, and characters vanishing during cutscenes as of me writing this. Still, gameplay is way better. Expand

This game is a perfect example of a remake done right, it feels just like how I remember the original back in 2008. I was worried that they would **** it up as motive has not done a lot of games but they managed to knock it out of the park.

The steam deck support of this game is very good and due to the FSR2 implementation in the game I was getting a very playable experience with about 2 hours and 10 minutes of playtime on a 95% charge down to 7% this was at all low to medium settings and fsr2 set to balanced.
i set the display to 40fps and got an average of 38-40fps about 90% of the time.

A NEW JOURNEY INTO THE DEAD SPACE

    BEFORE WE START:
Dead Space Remake was developed by Motive Studio and published by Electronic Arts. This title is a true reproduction of the original 2008 game, produced by the now-defunct Visceral Games. This product sets itself apart from the various remakes in today's market by offering new mechanics and paths compared to the original. The game has been 100% completed on Xbox Series X.

    THE NIGHTMARE BEGINS, AGAIN:
Dead Space Remake begins with an introductory scene to the game's story, showcasing the various members of the expedition, including the legendary engineer Isaac Clarke, the protagonist of the entire trilogy. Unlike the original, he now has an uncovered face and sets the stage for the continuous feast of visual and auditory delights that this remake offers to players of all categories. In fact, this cutscene fully showcases the graphical muscle it brings, with extreme attention to detail and visual effects, coupled with technically impressive audio. After this sequence, the player finds themselves guiding the engineer through the doors of the USG Ishimura, a massive galactic spacecraft dedicated to mining giant stars.

    LOST IN SPACE-SHIP:
By now, the gaming industry has accustomed us to seeing great remakes adding a couple, or even no new mechanics compared to the originals. Fortunately, Dead Space doesn't disappoint in this regard either. Several sections have been updated and modified to provide a different experience even for those who have played the original. One significant mechanic that has significantly changed the approach to certain areas is the energy convoy system. This allows the player to redirect energy to specific structures such as elevators or doors at the expense of life support systems or, even worse, lights. This obviously adds more variety compared to Dead Space's typical linearity and gives the player more decision-making power. Finally, the last two major changes are the addition of more interactive objects on the map for defensive use, such as carts or pipes that can be used as spears, and the ability to explore a fully interconnected Ishimura, blocked only by security doors accessible during the story.

    THE VISIONS IMPROVED THE GRAPHIC:
It's challenging not to fall into banality when talking about a remake that has improved every single aspect of the game. The lighting has been extensively enhanced and structured to evoke different sensations such as anxiety and anguish, or tranquility and solitude. The colors, faithful in every situation, perfectly convey the feeling of being immersed in deep space. The attention to detail, whether it's the decorative posters, billboards, wall writings, or various objects found throughout the game, builds a silent narrative necessary for such a dark title. Of course, there are some minor flaws, such as the animations, which are still below par compared to the rest, and some final cutscenes that feel hastily thought out and concluded.

    SOMETHING IS COMING:
The audio department, even more than the graphics, showcases a remarkable technical level. For this title, a new 3D audio technology was used, which utilizes extremely realistic sound waves that bounce off surfaces just like in the real world. It's worth noting that you need headphones with 3D audio to fully exploit this feature, but the regular audio, which is meticulously crafted, is still impressive in its own right. Focusing on the 3D audio, it's one of the best, if not the best, on the market, and it's especially utilized to its full potential in a game like this. By using this feature, you can hear enemies climbing walls or rooftops, allowing you to predict their direction. You can hear entities approaching from walls several meters away. Not only does this make the experience smoother, but it also makes it extremely more horrifying and scary due to the unpredictability of certain sounds.

    WHY A 10? (9.5)

    PROS:
Dead Space Remake, a reproduction of an already established masterpiece, improves upon 95% of the original, offering a multitude of new mechanics and approaches, a backtracking system, and terrifying audio and visual aspects. These aspects make it feel like a new game even for those like me who have completed the first Dead Space multiple times. Additionally, it provides access to the Impossible difficulty right from the first playthrough, a brilliant choice that allows veterans to enjoy a completely balanced challenge from the start.

    CONS:
The negative aspects of this masterpiece are limited to the simple question, "Was it necessary?" This is because the original Dead Space from 2008 didn't need a remake. I believe that every fan of the saga would have appreciated a sequel or spin-off of the trilogy much more than this reproduction.

    RATINGS:
    Gameplay: 10
    Music: 10
    Story: 9.5
    Horror: 10

First time hearing abt it was when watching the trailer for this remake, and then bought on steam to try. Right off the bat, the insane gorgeous graphics and details that was present just in the first hour of the game already made me feel that i would like this game alot. The combat feels weighted, heavy and punchy, with all weapons being used fairly often by me. the rip saw blades are a clear favourite of mine bringing back some doom glory kill memories as you get up close to take off the limbs of the necromorphs. Ambience and sound setting is always so amazingly well done in horror video games that we almost take it for granted. There were several moments in the game where the insanely thrilling music and beats were pumping so much as if they were supplying blood to my body, a true adrenaline rush feeling from going through a level and hurriedly escaping because some strange monster is chasing you. The sie quests are probably the most fleshed out side quests ive ever seen in a horror video game, seriously the level design put into it was rivalling some main quests as they were that good. inventory management and the shopping for new items was handled well with a well organised UI that made it clear what exactly was a good upgrade to get. Level design is super reminiscent of that little known game called.. dark souls? i sure havent heard of that game before...! Interconnectedness in the USG iSHIMURA was so so well done with the tram system, switches, and doors that somehow i did not get lost in that often even though the ship is massive. Having never played the first dead space, the story was quite alright to me but i didnt think it was very marvellous. Have seen better and i felt more connection to Isaac during gameplay because of a game system that Motive developed, the alive system that made isaac feel like a believable human being. I distinctly remember at one part after a very intense battle, both myself and isaac were panting profusely because of how intense it was, simple Amazing to have that emotional connection being achieved stellarly.

Having praised it, the game is not without issues. Firstly on the technical side, it seems that dead space is not really supported well on the latest nvidia geforce driver as at 16/7/23, and many users including myself were complaining as we kept seeing the directx failure message again and again. However, after reverting back to an older version that was released on january, the performance issues were nearly completely gone spar some minor stutter that was tolerable. As for gameplay and story, there were certain areas i liked and some i didnt, and felt that it was so tedious to go through, but still i did and well it is bearable. Even at its worst in level design, the game likes to keep it fresh and simple with the intuitive map button that helped me find my way back one too many times. Another thing to point out was that i really enjoyed playing on the hard difficulty, but decided to turn it down to medium after a really intense level to see what med difficulty was like, It was extremely easy compared to Hard mode and i felt like i was being overwhelmed with healing items and the like for no reason as i was able to survive fairly easily. Enemy AI seems to operate on a want to /dont want to basis sometimes and these extremely violent zombies can start to BACK OFF and i even saw one running away from me hahahah. It was so funny to see that and i guess the ai can be improved slightly. For the large part, the enemies in the game really live up to the hype as they are challenging yet fair to fight. Boss Fights can be abit... in the words of souls players, gimmicky. I didnt particularly enjoy the boss fights too much as they all felt like i was playing through a lens filter and didnt feel up close Me VS You kind of scenario. The other characters in the game are really well done and do not annoy me which is the most important thing for me. Often in gaming nowadays, we get absolute chatterboxes sharing their whole lifes worth of story in one car ride and it feel extremely irritating. The characters here are seriously only focused on surviving on the ship and i do not think i have seen anyone smile in this game, not even to themselves, which is a bit goofy but i still appreciate the studio trying to emphasise the survival horror theme.

I really had my fun with dead space even though it had some moments i felt disdainful and other negative emotions, but this project as a whole was really such a pleasure to experience the labour of love by the developers, adding their own touch to this already amazing game. Definite mustplay in my opinion.

There are some minor gripes like keyboard controls being a bit sluggish, the zero gravity sections being a pain to control thanks to the enemies, but what the game nails is the atmosphere which makes you forget these few short comings. They also removed the turret section which is also a huge bonus.
This will tie us over until System Shock Remake comes out which hopefully the devs won't botch. But for now the crown belongs to Dead Space.

If you’re wondering if it’s worth playing the old game, before this remake, or not…I would say it is not necessary, but definitely worth checking out, because then the differences in the remake will be even more shocking.

And shocking, they are, indeed, while it retains lots of the same levels layouts, in certain areas, some are completely redesigned but still feel familiar.

The major impact though comes from the incredible new Visuals and Graphics: Lighting looks amazing, for being a game that does not have any RT Global Illumination or Reflections, only RT Ambient Occlusion.
Shadows and Volumetric effects are also quite excellent, this game looks mind-blowingly atmospheric compared to the original from 2008, much more immersive that’s for sure.

For Performance on my PC, a Ryzen 5 3600, 16 GB (3200 MT/s) and an RTX 3060 Ti, the game normally runs quite well around 60-80 FPS at 1440p DLDSR downsampled, with Balanced DLSS, but there are still areas in the game with lower than expected performance (not common, but there are, got better with the latest update recently), and some minor area traversal stutters are still present, but they’re not too distracting in y game at least.
I have finished the game twice, for the new, alternate ending, and I have to say that the experience was 90%+ quite decent, and the rest some hiccups here and there. Hopefully the next patch will get rid of the remaining smaller issues.

This is a no spoilers review, so I cannot get into some of the particular details that enhance this Remake so much, but know that there are many, many details and references that, if you’re a Dead Space fan (of the whole franchise), you will certainly love when you find and notice them.

The AI Director system seems to work well and the better we play and dispatch enemies, the more unexpected stuff may happen, I felt like this in my playthroughs, and I also believe the game will adjust the amount and frequency of ammo drops, depending on how we're doing.
It's a system that manages to keep things relatively tense and interesting, I enjoyed my time a lot on Hard Difficulty, for sure, felt pretty balanced for my skill level.

Overall, after around 40 hours in two playthroughs…I can say I had a lot of fun with Dead Space, it is one of the best Remakes I’ve ever played, and I include in that list the likes of RE 1 and 2 Remakes, for sure.
This Dead Space remake has set a very, very high bar as far as Remakes goes, for me at least, it’s all I could’ve asked for a remake of this classic, and I hope EA lets Motive Studios continue this interesting journey, with the only logical choice: remaking Dead Space 2 : )

This game deserves the 10, but I’ll keep at 9 because of the random performance issues at times, they’re not awful, but 10 means no issues at all for me.

Initial stutters and 40-60 FPS gets fixed as soon as you get the past first few minutes of the landing deck. After that it works good with occasional stutters (shader reset through driver worked for me to fix the stutters). In terms of settings Ultra + RT on no FSR

The choices dev made for the (expected by me) scripted scares worked flawlessly, there have been a lot of changes of necromorph spawns, twitchers as an example literally are unpredictable and generally speaking I genuinely jumped a lot of times, in terms of gameplay... you need to be more smart with dismemberment; as an example they added a version of the necromorph with full armour that is harder to kill. I had much more fun that I did in both DS original version and DS2.

Story - without going into spoilers, they succsessfully fixed some of the questionable arcs within the first game. New paths, new way of exploring, at first I was confussed about the backtracking but then I realised that I need to progress the story a little bit more linear than a typical half-open world games which initially I thought was going to be the case for the remake

I give it a solid 10/10 I really hope EA will not screw potential sequel remakes and motive studio have delivered.

Sorry RE2 (still very nice) and RE3 remakes (meh), but it's time to step aside, Dead Space holds the crown now!

I can't believe i'm saying this and i'm saying this as one of the biggest fans of Resident Evil 4, but Capcom really needs to bring their A-Game, if they want to be on same level with this masterpiece.

Fully explorable ship makes the game so much more immersive, you can go back any time to any part of the ship (of course you need to unlock that part first, but most of the ship is unlocked by chapter 6/7. Side quests are also nice addition. I mean, why not? I enjoyed them.

Overall every boss fight is better than the one from the OG (and they were already solid in OG). Zero-G free flying is one of the most fun i have had in a long time. There's so many areas you can explore thanks to updated Zero-G.

As the old saying goes, nothing is perfect, but this one gets very close. This is a must buy for anyone who likes Horror games.

This REMAKE has the same problem as DEAD SPACE 1, 2 & 3, in which the FlELD 0F VlEW is just GARBAGE which doesn't even have a way for u to control it on its settings. Many of the areas of the REMAKE are way too dark; in others the density of the fog is way too high, this combined with too much illumination can make ur eyes feel like they're melting since the high illumination is refracted by the dense fog. The PC version has DENUV0 & its optimization isn't very good either, so if u want it so badly, be prepared to deal with random framedrops. Yup, the W0KE changes, like the gender neutral bathrooms, tokenized posters, & nerfed, & aged & tokenized characters were also noticed; that wasn't cool at all. Expand

    Extremely overrated game.
I understand the nostalgia for who played the original version, but it is just too old for 2023 standards. Gameplay is weird and dated, enemies are always the same.
Story is superficial and could be summarised in a 1-hour video that unfortunately gets hours of repetitive gameplay in the middle.

Ridiculous.. there's plenty of characters, scenes and dialogues have been changed in this game for no reason when all they had to do is just upgrade the graphic. Voice acting really feels awful and actors seem bored out of their mind while speaking. There's no emotion in their voice at all. Also they added a lot of cutscenes in this remake that was not in original. At times it feels like they made it more like a movie for some reason. Immersion is low, npc move like robots. It really does feel like a cash grab. Where they put low effort in this remake so they can cash it of a good will of origin game. Pros: The game is faithful to the original Dead Space in general, adding new mechanics. I have to say that several mechanics like Zero Gravity are taken from Dead Space 2 but they feel well implemented.

This a "remake" according to Devs. I can accept that outline of the story is the same but i cant accept wood made animations same or almost the same like in the original (which were great at it's time), poor dialog, poor face animations, object collision detect problems, worse cameras movements,I was trying to play this game through EA App on PC. Sorry but a little better graphics (rally not important) is not worth a sacrifices. For me it is a weird remaster maybe but broken with many aspects at the same time.
I couldn't finish this game is a real torture. Original Dead Space is simple much better overall experience.

Never played very much of the original, but the little I had seen from the original (Opening section) has been overhauled and upgraded completely. The game itself is pretty fun and I love the atmosphere and visuals that it gives off. 8.5/10

90% of the time a remake/remaster of classic games works! every developer currently Should invest in remakes because this dead space 2023 managed to overcome dead 2008..

I really wanted to have a remake of NFS MOST WANTED, SKATE 3, DEAD SPACE 2, DEF JAM FFNY, NFS UNDERGROUND 2, BURNOUT 3.........

Un bon jeu, mais mal optimisé.
Beaucoup trop de Stuttering et une mauvaise utilisation de la puissance du PC.
    Graphiquement très propre

I gotta say, this game definitely scared me at some parts. I am not completely finished with the game, but I gotta tell ya that this game is so damn good and one of the best things EA has done in years, and I **** hate EA. The graphics are gorgeous, the story is so far amazing, and the gameplay is good. I’d give it a 9:/10.

Simply amazing. Chilling atmpsohere, great story, amazing graphics; gameplay-wise it's the best I've played in a long time.

One of the best survival-horror experiences. Sound design is as good as RE2 Remake. There are some optimization problems when playing on PC.

Absolutely excellent, really fun to roam the Ishimura and uncover what happened to the crew. I wish there were more games like this :)

On all levels of dead, fear and space, an awesome game!
The horror environments gives the creeps and the graphics are neat!
A pack of unique weapons to upgrade and brutalize the frightening monsters with - although if the monsters catch you they will literally brutalize you and when you die you get to see one of MANY deathscenes.

    10/10 good ****

Dead Space is the best sci-fi horror I've played in a long time! It's actually unbelievable considerating it's coming from EA. This is how a game should be remade. I am hoping for a Dead Space 2 remake in the future.

A masterpiece for me I really like the game, the atmosphere, the sounds, the music, the history, and the characters. Recently I finished the original on my PS3 and I can affirm this is the perfect experience for the game

좁은 통로에서 언제 튀어나올지 모르는 적을 두려워하며 조금씩 나아가는 긴박감
죽지 않는 적과 사운드, 어두운 분위기에서 오는 공포감
    꿈도 희망도 없는 스토리까지

Great remake, with best storyline and characters, I really enjoyed this game. Definitely it was much better than Callisto Protocol in almost everything. Waiting for the Dead Space 2 remake

What a great remake for a legendary hooror game! Some sound effects are way less impressive than in the original title and the endfight is still not very good but all in all this game is fun!

It will be an interesting exercise to compare this to the Resident Evil 4 remake and Metroid Prime Remastered, such stylistically or thematically similar titles released within the same quarter, as this being the first out the gate has set a high watermark early on into the year. It wins on its top tier presentation alone, and although it can sometimes feel like that's the main contributor that's modernising the experience, there's a great novelty and appeal to some of its, should we say, relics to game design of the past. Chiefly, relics that are of a focused, directed single-player experience that don't overstay their welcome and don't manipulate the player beyond the experience itself. Let's see how long that one lasts when we're drowning in remakes, shall we?

If you want to replay first Dead Space – the remake will scratch that itch. But don’t expect any meaningful improvements over the original. [page 54]
