The game plays similarly to the aforementioned, but there are many new mechanics which improve the experience. For example, the multiplayer classes are unique and interesting; officers can call in artillery strikes, machinegunners mow down enemies with a storm of bullets, and flamethrower troops can fill whole rooms with liquid fire.
   
   Gunplay is smooth and satisfying, with hit detection that works impeccably. Because most weapons kill in one or two shots, combat is snappy and intense. Grenades and other explosives have a wide kill radius and help to break up stalemates on the objectives. The weapons in the game are straight from World War II and are modeled quite well. The smoke grenades look very good compared to many other games (CS:GO for example) and using them properly is key to winning games. Voice acting in the game is amazing, and hearing a German officer yell for artillery or an American rifleman curse when reloading really adds to the immersion.
   
   Map design is, in my opinion, miles ahead of Insurgency. Not only do the maps feel more "realistic" in their design but they are also well balanced and fun to play, with plenty of room to maneuver. There are a variety of objective-based game modes, each with a different pacing and overall feel.
   
   The main drawbacks of this game are lackluster graphics and occasional technical issues, but in my opinion none of this detracts from the amazing gameplay experience.
   
   In conclusion: if you like Insurgency, multiplayer shooters, or World War II games in general, Day of Infamy should be considered essential. If you don't usually enjoy those things, Day of Infamy just might change your mind.… Expand

   I almost never give out 10s but here it is. Here's why this game gets a 10:

   It's of course really good, but also, it runs very well and has INNOVATIVE FEATURES, without which I cannot give a 10.
   
   Graphics: plenty good enough, you aren't getting BF1 level graphics, but OTOH you aren't getting BF1 level of system requirements. You also have gibs flying from explosions, dismemberment, etc. Vivid and immersive, which is what counts.
   Sound: simply awesome. So real. Incredible. Takes your immersion to a new level, making the combat that much more visceral.
   Stability: Game runs very well. There were some minor bugs upon release, but I can't find any, now that the game has been out a month.
   Gameplay: As realistic as you are going to get without getting boring (like ArmA), so that is simply perfect.
   Unique features: Just like in real WW2, there was only local communication. Only radio-equipped soldiers (a full backpack-sized contraption weighing roughly 35 pounds) could talk remotely.
   
   So in DoI, your Voice chat is local, with enemies able to overhear what you say to your teammates if they are close enough. Unless you are a radio carrier, in which case the other radio carrier can also hear you, which enables some interesting strategic and tactical options. Radios are used by officers, just like in real WW2, and the radioman should stick with his officer, which allows him to call in support under many forms, dependant on which army you are playing as.
   
   Overall this is a fantastic WW2 experience. I cannot recommend this game enough.

   After reading the negative reviews against this game, I think I can summarize them as criticisms against Source Engine, the lacking area ofAfter reading the negative reviews against this game, I think I can summarize them as criticisms against Source Engine, the lacking area of intense overhauling, and smaller issues that are matters of perspective and hardware.
   
   I'll first address what I believe to be the elephant in the room: "Day of Infamy is a reskin of Insurgency (2014)." My simple answer to this is, yes. Day of Infamy, built from a mod for Insurgency, intentionally a similar experience of attention to detail regarding gunplay, and further expands on its focus by making historical accuracy a relevant part of the game. Furthermore, the level of polish with which the game brings to the conflict of WW2 makes the game entertaining and a significant change from the base game. Being forced to use either bolt-action or relatively low-powered automatic weapons, a contrast from Insurgency's focus of modern and tactically adaptible weaponry, it creates a level of focus and new understanding to the way the game is played. You simply can't play Day of Infamy in the same way as Insurgency.
   
   With that out of the way, I'll move to the Source Engine. I will acknowledge that the Source Engine does have limitations. This is made more obvious by the fact that New World Interactive developed their following game on Unreal Engine rather than Source. I don't beleive it's a fair criticism that the Source Engine significantly limits the games enjoyment. While it comes with certain hitches (performance, controls, quality), it shows the tenacity and aspiration for which the devs are responsible. They have shown creativity in furthering the usage of Source beyond what they accomplished in 2014, and made a leap. It's unfair to say that Day of Infamy is not enjoyable or is not a good game because of some basic limiations of the Source Engine. (I'm not trying to make an unfair comparison, but we've seen the potential of the Source Engine creating wonderful games [i.e. Half Life 2] and I think it's fair to say that the limitations of Source are observed in those games. It should not be unfairly used to criticize against this game.)
   
   Another area that I sort of understand is the lack of extended support by the modding community. Day of Infamy has wide support when it comes to mods, but it's nowhere near the amount of support that Insurgency has seen. I think rather than an argument that the game doesn't deserve it, I think it has to do with the basic Ethos (time period the game depicts) and the interest that most of us have. I think it's fair to say that Insurgency is more well received as it is moder, adaptible, can change and conform to current interests as it depicts a modern conflict. This isn't the case with Day of Infamy as it is based on historical events and conforms as such. This simple divide plays a significant part in the smaller amount of interest shown by the community. I will add on that I think the criticism is fair that the market is heavily saturated with WW2 shooters, and Day of Infamy is very good, but it is mostly focused on the audience of those who already played Insurgency and appreciated the gunplay aspect.
   
   Finally, I'd like to express my personal thoughts that the game does fantastic things. Limitations are the catalyst for creativity, something evident in Day of Infamy. I still have fun playing it and would recommend it to people who have played and enjoyed Insurgency but are ready for a new fling.… Expand

One of the worst being the exo-suit / mech-laden FPS games which have been shoveled out over the past few years. Titanfall had fairly good success so everyone followed suit (pun actually intended). Lest we not forget the plethora of hunted house jump scare games, the zombie horde games and now the classic battle royale genre. It seems as though the next couple of years may be dominated once more with the World War 2 FPS, with the likes of COD taking the helms. But there is one new WWII FPS out there which is worth paying close attention to, and that’s Day of Infamy.
   
   Day of Infamy, by New World Interactive, started life as an Insurgency modification, set in WWII, but now has it’s very own stand-alone title.
   
   Stripped right back to basics, this FPS features very limited on-screen HUD, including no bullet counter, no hit markers, no health gauge and no reticle. At first, so-called FPS connoisseurs may find this all a little bit intimidating, if not infuriating, however, after a small adjustment period everything just becomes second nature. You’ll learn to ensure you are accounting for bullet drop, reloading after each combat engagement and of course being very sure you have actually taken down your opponent before running headlong to their position. These quirks all enhance the game to build a very tense atmosphere into what may otherwise have been another run of the mill (albeit very nice) shooter.
   
   Running on the Source Engine (Titanfall, Garry’s Mod and CS:GO all also use Source), the game has opened its doors to the PC modding community to allow you to create maps, skins, weapons etc.
   
   Modes:
   
   There are two mode types to pick from, these being Online and Cooperative. Online serves up a two team battle, being Allied Vs Axis, in 16 player brawls. This includes Stronghold whereby the attacking team advance through enemy territory to secure areas of control, Offensive, in which the attacking team aim to capture specific points, one at a time, whilst pushing back the defending team, Liberation, where you aim to capture specific objectives, with the advancing team earning more waves (respawns) whilst in enemy territory, and Frontline, where both teams must push through the map simultaneously, either capturing every objective, or maintaining the majority of control when the timer runs out.
   
   Cooperative mode sees humans vs AI bots in a similar fashion.
   
   Radio Communication:
   
   Local VOIP is used to talk to your teammates in the game, but be careful because the enemy can hear you if you’re close enough. Radio operators also serve as a communication beacon to those around them, as HQ and radio operator chatter can be heard through them.
   
   Classes:
   
   In game there are 9 very different classes to chose from. These include the usual fan favourites such as Assault and Support, Sniper and Rifleman, but also add Flame Thrower, Radioman and Officer into the mix. As an Office, you’ll be able to use the Radioman’s radio to call in air strikes on enemy positions and supply drops for your troops. If playing as a team, using each characters unique skills can overturn even the most unbalanced of games rather quickly. Call your Flame Thrower to clear out rooms in buildings or tight alleyways, have your sniper cover you as you dash over open ground, or use your officer to call a strike on a penned in area before you make a charge.
   
   Maps:
   
   11 varied and intricate maps are included, from the sunny and inviting Crete with its open areas, to the bombed out ruins of Saint-Lo in France – a sprawling town of houses in ruins, with a tight network of streets. There is plenty of variety and options for all types of players, from snipers to up-close-and-personal run and gunners.
   
   To summarise Day of Infamy, it is a stripped back WWII shooter which focuses on tense, tight, balanced gameplay, finding the right blend of arcade and realism. Team work is very important, however, not essential, so if you’re a lone wolf, you can still get a bang for your buck. Budget in price, but monumental in value.… Expand

At any given time, I've not found a good number of populated servers OR online players. One or two servers are full, and the remaining 8 or so have a few people each.
   
   The gameplay is clunky - and I don't mean that there's no crosshair or that the reloads take longer. I mean that there will be times i'm running over a small hill and get caught. I can't jump...can't go forwards, I just get stuck...and then you die.
   
   Once you're dead? You get to wait. A long time, sometimes. In same game types the only respawns happen when your team captures an objective or "regroups" by running to a place on the map. A lot of players pay zero attention to regrouping, and other times the last player is a sniper - he refuses to die, and doesn't capture or regroup. So you're left waiting for them to FINALLY die.
   
   I enjoy America's Army. I've played Arma. I played Insmod back in the day and liked it....but Day of Infamy just falls well short of the mark. I can't recommend it, nor will I waste any more time on it. Seriously disappointing.… Expand
