Massive Monster’s Cult of the Lamb plays like an inventory of half-understood mechanics from other games.

Combining hack 'n slash action and cult management in a great and inspired way, this is definitely one of the best indies of the year. [Recommended]

Being a cult leader in this funny old game, then, is a little bit like being a game designer, I imagine. It's complex on certain levels, and to use the lovely vivid cliche, you're herding cats quite a lot. But really you're trying to arrange happiness for people. The only difference is that as a cult leader, if they don't become happy on cue, you can cook them and eat them. [Eurogamer Recommended]

Regardless of the cult you choose to create, it will revolve around consumption, worship, and sacrifice. Everything you do, you do for more power and more control. While you, the lamb, serve as a pleasant and obvious irony, Cult of the Lamb begs the question as to what kind of leader you will be. Will you lead your flock to ruin? Will you allow them a false autonomy from the shackles of the religion you’ve cultivated over hours of laborious work? Or will you bring them to the slaughter, becoming the very god you attacked and dethroned? [Recommended]
  4. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with it, and I definitely won't be alone in that. Cult Of The Lamb absolutely oozes charisma and excitement at the tiniest opportunity, and it's hard not to be taken in by the loving attention to detail on display while you're playing. The combat aspect may be a little lacking in content, but it's good enough to hold its own and keep me entertained between periods spent carefully taking care of my growing legion of adoring followers. And sacrificing them for my amusement, of course. That bit's important too. [RPS Bestest Bests]

Cult of the Lamb became a comforting, soothing experience inasmuch as cleaning up vomit and poop and beating down Cthulhuian horrors can be soothing. It was my bedtime game. I’d play until my eyes couldn’t stay open anymore or my Steam Deck’s battery gave out, whichever came first. And because I enjoyed playing so much, crafting the perfect combat loadout or redesigning my camp’s layout, it was largely the latter. I hate that the game is so short and how easy it is to max out everything. Unlocking the highest tiers of buildings and power-ups became trivial since I became efficient at extracting devotion from my followers. To contradict Machiavelli, it’s better, in this case, to be loved rather than feared.

Don't believe the hype this game is hot garbage and I beat the game in the first day of owning it because it's child-like difficulty. WayDon't believe the hype this game is hot garbage and I beat the game in the first day of owning it because it's child-like difficulty. Way overpriced for how short and easy this game is. Gaming in 2022 is a meme sadly, we had a good run boys GG. Full Review »

Cult of the lamb is a unique rouge-like sim game that have elements of base management that compliment each other very well. The rougue-likeCult of the lamb is a unique rouge-like sim game that have elements of base management that compliment each other very well. The rougue-like dungeon crawling part of the game is quite standard such as limited HP, weapons are RNG based, with a mixed of "cards for talents" which are cards that provide you bonus perks and stats which are also RNG. The rouge-lime aspect of the game kinda remind me a little of binding of isaac in a good way which is a plus.

The base management in the game is really fun as well with the focus of building and growing your cult. This includes building new structures, farms, and other bizzares structures that help grow your cult following and also the quality of life for your followers and your settlement.

I love the visual of the game with its cute artstyle but yet somehow able to blend with the dark theme of the game, they have some really good soundtrack and the UI in the game is also really easy to navigate that makes me appreciate the little things. As much as I love the game, there are some minor issue that I had encounter during my 30 hours gameplay. There are quite a number of bugs such as enemy not spawning thus I'm not able to proceed to the next section of the game which require me to restart, your followers at time would not pop up a speech bubble when you interract with them. Hopefully future patches are able to fix these bugs which otherwise a really great game.

Overall Cult of the Lamb is by far one of the more unique and visually pleasing game I played this year. If you're into rouge-like games or base management games or just a game you want to jump in and out anytime you want, you definitely should not miss out on this.
