Por todo ello no puedo recomendar Cult of the Lamb. Un 4,5.

really cool in concept, nice music, nice visuals. i don't exactly mind that it's very derivative of binding of isaac or hades, but there are a lot of little issues that make it clear the game is just not finished.

vendors are constantly out and dont restock because there aren't enough non cosmetic items to buy in the game. there are a metric ton of blueprints for items that i have absolutely no desire for and which are entirely useless, but which require a very lengthy and unskippable animation to register every time you find one that feels as if it was added specifically to make the game longer. a few of them are okay but the majority serve no purpose, and you need space for functional buildings so it's not a good idea to build cosmetics early on. also, a great number of them are floor tile patterns, which can only be placed on a diagonal grid, while the plot of land and the paths that you can't move or build on
are rectangular. this means that basically none of the floor pieces fit into the existing terrain, so it's annoying to keep finding blueprints for them.

the tech tree is questionable in that you have to grind to unlock every single building individually, and no buildings are unlocked by default when a certain upgrade happens. it's also very limited, so it feels like they just didn't put enough into the budget for this aspect and decided to stretch it out with crappy low level buildings and grindy resource gathering. i've only clocked 8 hours on my save, ive progressed through about 1/4 of the dungeon areas, but my tech tree is already 3/4 full.

cultists basically behave like a bunch of infants, pooping and vomiting everywhere and losing faith at random even if you check in with them regularly and perform plenty of rituals. this means you basically cant go explore the absolutely necessary dungeons for long before someone gets mad or sick. it feels that i constantly need more cultists to manage each building that i create, but they also are really slow at every task, require crazy maintenance, and age/die really quickly.

food is really difficult to manage because the only edible crop in the game is berries, which are a huge hassle to produce and can't really be automated by cultists. berry bushes do not drop nearly enough seeds, on harvesting, which means that if you are out of food and your people are hungry, you have to go out and find seeds in a dungeon which may not spawn and definitely won't provide many seeds, plus they will get angry at you while you are gone. the lack of local resource growth in the game is really problematic in general, since i was able to harvest all berries, trees, and rocks in my town within about 30-45 mins of gameplay, but only trees reappear. you also have to go out to get grass, but you can't cut down the grass or weeds within your town for this purpose.

combat is cool in some ways, but overall simplistic and monotonous even if enemies are visually diverse. many of the spells are just simply bad, others very powerful. so far it has felt poorly balanced.

the manual saves do not function consistently or at all, so i have lost at least a few minutes of progress every time i relaunched the game.

overall the largest issue in the game is that it has a game breaking bug that devolver knew about prior to release, since it's on every single platform. ive had the game for only a couple of days and it's already frozen several times to the point where the game itself doesn't register as "not responding" or anything, but it gets stuck in an animation and just doesn't start again. this is supposedly caused by rituals, but it happened to me just while talking to a cultist on the first day i played. if the game crashes and freezes all the time, and im losing progress every time it does so, it's hard to keep launching the game again and i've sat down intending to play for a few hours but only got a few minutes in before deciding it wasn't worth the hassle. devolver has promised a patch for this bug, but if that's all they're patching then it's probably something they planned to do so that people wouldn't complain about all the other little issues.

i don't think i have even begun to list all of the problematic/dysfunctional mechanics in this game so far, and really i can't stress enough that this game has a lot of potential, but i have yet to play a game from devolver that i liked, and usually because they are buggy and unfinished. the majority of them have a flashy concept and name/cover, but don't pan out. in this case, to paywall a handful of cultist skins is a really questionable move when the game is in such a state, and the dlc is outrageously small even for what it costs. it's starting to seem to me that devolver is where indie games go to die.

Expect to soft lock the game any time you talk to NPCs. Or interact with objects. Or attempt to do the tutorial... This hasn't been fixed in 6 months. Don't waste your money on this buggy mess.

An ambitious game that tries to fuse rogue-likes with city building. Its failure at making either of these components truly good left me frustrated by the waste of potential instead of enchanted by the beautiful artwork and excellent final boss fight. The epitome of all style and no substance

    Pros:

    - The art direction is phenomenal, straddling the lines between adorable and nightmarish perfectly
    - The creative use of the cult theme with resource management mechanics is brilliant. You'll drug your cult up on magic mushrooms to keep their loyalty locked in for a few days, ascend them to another plane when your followers start to get out of hand, put followers in prison for re-education when the start to question your leadership, and so much more.
    - When the game gets into maximum rogue-like chaos mode it succeeds in making the gameplay feel exciting and special. Its unfortunate though that it only feels this good by playing extended runs after beating bosses, which is not only totally optional but doesn't give the player any special rewards for completing (if anything it may punish the player for doing runs like this)

    Cons:

This section is best broken up into the cons surrounding its two separate components - the rogue-like and the city building.

    Rogue-like Cons:

    - Runs offer little in the way of upgrades as you make your way through the dungeons. The game uses Tarot Cards as its means of giving the player upgrades, and the average run nets the player about 3 to 5 of these cards. Because of this the dungeon crawling aspect never feels all that unique or powerful, the player feels about as strong at the beginning of the run as they do by the end.
    - Upgrades have little to no synergy with each other, meaning that different runs tend to feel about the same as all other runs.
    - Choices in paths made in the dungeons don't feel impactful.
    - Surprises & chance encounters the dungeons don't affect gameplay enough.

All this combined makes the rogue-like portion of the game feel like a uniform slog which is the exact opposite of what i want from a rogue-like. Important choices and builds that result in rare playing experiences are the keys to making each run in a rogue-like dungeon crawler feel special. Cult of the Lamb fails in creating that feeling in its dungeon runs.

    City Building Cons:

    - Most choices when deciding the operations of your cult don't seem to matter. Whether choosing between two different ways to get the same perk or whether to unlock this building before the other, by the end you don't feel like you've lost or gained anything due to opportunity cost.
    - The economy seems way off in terms of timing. By the time i unlocked every building and every dungeon upgrade, I still had half of the story left in the game, so the rest of the game becomes kind of keeping your cult maintained for no reason.
    - The game got backwards what it ought to be automating. Strategic allocation of your cult members is more or less handled by itself, meaning all that's left for you to do is the busy work of running around and collecting resources. Automating the strategy and leaving the coin collecting to the user results in this part of the game at times feeling like high quality freemium game - something to run through while your eyes glaze over

Because of all of this, the game doesn't have any replay ability because by the end of your run, you've done everything and to play it again would just mean a more or less urgency & strategy free run through doing the exact same thing over again.

    Verdict:

The game is undeniably beautiful and clever. What it's not unfortunately is a very good game, which is a shame because it had the potential to be great and could have been fixed with several quality of life fixes. Better economy scaling, more synergy between power ups, more power ups, and more interesting decisions all seem like very fixable issues for a game, but are ultimately what makes this game a bore instead of the masterpiece i feel it had the potential to be. It's a total shame.

Don't believe the hype this game is hot garbage and I beat the game in the first day of owning it because it's child-like difficulty. Way overpriced for how short and easy this game is. Gaming in 2022 is a meme sadly, we had a good run boys GG.

Gameplay - the main thing in any game, and it sucks, lol dodge-kick-dodge-kick, and i should do it for about... 6 hours? But the different difficulty should make it more interesting, no it don't it just makes your villagers **** themselves more often. So 310 is because of bugs and pathetic challenging. The combat is mind-numbingly easy and each difficulty level seems meaningless as even at the highest difficulty it still feels like you're playing on journalist mode just with a little less HP. Overall, sheep (game journalists) are sheep and this game is overhyped and bland. Expand

After the updates, which fixed the technical problems, they unfortunately added some new enemies, which are basically impossible to beat, unless you have certain weapons equipped.
Weapons, being randomly generated, can't be chosen, so adding in enemies that require you to just quit a dungeon until you get the right one, so that it doesn't take ten minues to kill a minor enemy, just feels

A huge shame, really because it was a great game that I was looking forward to playing through after the technical patches fixed the old issues. They did... And added all new gameplay design issues in their place.

Even the basic balanced alternation between boss slaying expeditions and tending your sheep will provide hours of fun, maybe even dozens of hours. And there are even more things to do in the game, including mini-games like fishing or playing backgammon. [Issue#321]

While it lasted, Cult of the Lamb was a darkly enlightening experience that wholly delivers on the premise of its cutesy horror genre-mash-up. For the many who have been eagerly anticipating its release, that faith has been rewarded.
