Bioshock Infinite was exactly what it needed to be. It was a Bioshock game that was also the third game in a series. It had many characteristics of the original games in it, but it also had many new features that a third game needs to have. To all of the people that were complaining about it being too linear I say they must not have tried to explore. Plus, you must not have played the original games, because it was just as linear as the originals. If the story line was confusing to you, I can understand why you didn't like it. It was a really well told story that was as original as a story can be these days. Everything has been done under the sun.

The game play was similar and yet different from the first two games. It had to be that way because if it was exactly the same as the first game, then people would complain about that. As I said, it was what it needed to be. To the people that complain that it is just not a believable story, then A) you must not have played through the game completely (or you weren't really paying attention) or B) Your completely over thinking it and I bet that you hate science fiction games/movies in general. If it is really that hard to believe, then I don't understand how you liked the first two games (if you did, and if you didn't then you shouldn't leave a comment) and you should probably go back to non-fiction books. For all of those people who said they don't understand why they should care about the story-line, I say how couldn't you? The very basics of the story are heart breaking. A girl locked up by her father and experimented on? That is engaging by it self. The rest is a ridiculous amount of gravy.

I will say that the enemies were a bit repetitive. I get that. Wasn't the first game's enemies? I agree that the Handymen (Big Dadies) were not too common, but they had other things to fight in there place, and plus they would have gotten old if they had been common. The controls were not clunky, they just were not what your used to. Don't be lazy and fix them, I did and it improved my skill and experience immensely.

To those complaining about the graphics, what games that have come out recently have better graphics? Sure, there are games with better graphics, like Battlefield 3, but those graphics wouldn't have added anything to the game. The graphics that the game had were exactly the quality that it need to look good, add to the experience, but not take away from the game play (aka killing Frames Per Second or making some peoples computers not be able to play it at all).

To sum up, most of the things that people are complaining about are pointless, laziness, misunderstanding, or just simply ridiculous. This game is amazing, not quite perfect but pretty close. Get this game. I recommend playing the first one at least if you haven't already.

I was very excited for this game, and rightfully so. I cannot deny it's beauty, it's tummy tickling steam punk mythos and it's violent action. Despite all the good aspects of this game, the negatives is what brings the score down below all the raves it's receiving by the majority of the gaming community. The story had the chance to be something amazing, but it's pace seemed somewhat forced and monotone.... and the climatic ending(which was the only real climax) was extremely "unclimatic" in my personal opinion. I feel as if the story could have been so much more, especially with an extension of good, solid playtime. From start to finish, this game is an average of 8 to 12 hours total play time. For 60 dollars, that's a major sell short for me personally. I think the story could have bloomed into so much more, with spaced out re-visits with a better attention to details/unlocks. The lack of total storyl ine gameplay time also brings in a sense of "incompleteness" as you will be unable to fully unlock the plethora of powers/weapon upgrades that are available in the game. I understand from the devs perspective that they wanted to add replayability by choosing different weapon and power upgrades with each play through, but with the story's pace and briefness, I can only see most gamers getting 2 or 3 play throughs before putting Bioshock Infinite down for good.

I sincerely hope that quality DLC may be able to breath that small bit of extra life into the game that it so desperately needs, but I cross my fingers that it won't be too little too late. By the time it would come around, I as I can imagine most will have moved on to new or other games which may raise the bar and overshadow this brief champion of the "now".

Bioshock Infinite is a beautiful looking game with an exceptional story. Although the story will confuse the heck out of you until you figure out whats going on, that's about all Bioshock Infinite has going for itself. The levels are really linear and the combat feels like a mere filler for the rest of the game. The game is essentially "keep shooting until next cutscene". There aren't many situation where you are forced to put your skills and abilities to the test. Oddly enough, Booker Dewitt (you) can't stealth until a certain section at the very end of the game, which by the way, seems very out of place. In addition to multiple oddities throughout the game, there is never a point throughout the game where you feel vulnerable or exposed. This can be quite a letdown because the magnitude of the situation doesn't really seem that high.

There's alot of praise coming in for this game, but I think that's mainly to the fact that the story is considered by many as "deep". People assumes the game is good because its difficult to understand whats going on. True, the concept of Bioshock Infinite is intriguing, and there is no game like it; but that doesn't mean it deserves the huge amount of praise it has been receiving. Though the alternate time reality concept pops up in alot of the media nowadays, Bisohock ends up pulling it off very well. Wish there was an alternate universe were the gameplay didn't seem like such a chore. Definitely not worth full price.

This game is absolutely wonderful. One of the few games that I have played straight through. Graphics are excellent. Gameplay is strategic. City is great fun to explore. Science fiction elements of the game are nicely integrated. You definitely won't go wrong to play this title. I liked it much better than Bioshock 1 & 2.

Where BI really hits the mark is the world and lore created. The atmosphere is almost perfect. The city is awesome, done with attention to the smallest details. It's so good it really should have been an RPG. Of course when I preordered it I knew it's an FPS game, but when you do such grand setting it's almost a waste to do "just" a shooter out of it. It would have been great if more interaction was allowed with the actors and I wouldn't had the feeling of walking amongst puppets. Despite the stuff I just mentioned, Columbia is a living city, with very nice design. The story was also good, but the writers aimed for too much and at the end I was more confused, than satisfied. The morality of the whole act is pretty shallow, after such hype I was expecting more. It's definitely for an adult audience, but stays at a level of infancy from a certain point of view. I felt, that it could have been developed much further, however it's nice to see, that some developers at least try to deal with these questions.
Now some words about the gameplay. While it isn't as great as the previous Bioshock games, it's still good. Again, the design imo couldn't reach the high level which it was aiming for. I felt a sense of "streamlining" effort to make the game comfortable for newcomers and casual gamers, which definitely hurt the experience. I missed the minigames, the hacking and the need for bringing truly strategic decisions when upgrading my stats and weapons. I could pass all the obstacles without too much effort or the need to develop strategies to beat the enemies. Near the end some creatures forced me to think through which gun is the most useful in the situation, but that's it. Elizabeth powers are make you much stronger, than you need to be. And if it seems that you will be beat down in a few moments she is always there with ammo or a medical bag. This gave me the feeling, that I can play as stupidly as I want and there won't be any consequences.
Summary: Despite the criticism above, Bioshock Infinite is still a great game, recommended.

Yes, the game is not flawless. Gameplay for example is mostly (when playing against "weak" opponents) shooting with a mixture between regenerating and normal health (shield regenerates). That being said, that wasn´t a great difference between "easy" and "hard" against most opponents. Just the boss fights were actually very hard (includes the ending). And I think this is the biggest "problem" of this game. There could be more than just shooting and following a path. Why not some easy puzzles? But enough complaining about the game. The characters are well done, especially Elizabeth. You can see her emotions by looking at her face, and I noticed only one short script that was off: She said "thank you" and was looking at me like she was going to murder me. During fights, she´s actually pretty useful and a lovely character. Also, the story itself is genius. You might be suspecting some parts of the story, but you´ll never know exactly what happened unless you play it. One of the best stories in an FPS so far.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Bioshock Infinite is a competent FPS. However, competent doesn't mean greatness, and Infinite has a long way to go before it reaches that pedestal.

Graphically: The game looks very pretty upon first glance. Once you actually stop to look at what's going on and pay attention to the finer details, you notice some glaring problems. First is the bloom. There's bloom everywhere, and it's far overdone. The entire environment looks over saturated. Then you get up close to the textures, and they look extremely dated. From far away, the apple boxes look full of fruit, but when you get up close you seem some 2006 era textures. Okay, well what about the NPCs? Pay attention to their faces, and you'll find that many of them not only look absurd, but they also share the exact same face. The vigor's showing their effects on your hands is a nice touch, but one is left to wonder why they removed seeing the effects of weapon upgrades.

Gameplay: The gameplay is an absolute step back from Bioshock 1 and 2. You have access to all vigors at all times, making it so that you don't have to plan your engagements nearly as carefully. The two gun limit is also wholly unnecessary. It would work very well from a gameplay standpoint if ammo was very scarce, and you were forced to use money on vending machines or constantly switch weapons in order to survive. But because Elizabeth is always there to give you ammo, you're never in any real danger of not having ammo. There doesn't really seem to be any point in having a two gun limit. It does absolutely nothing for the game.

Then you have the issue of Elizabeth. Bioshock 1 was great not just for its story, but for its atmosphere. Infinite doesn't have anywhere near the atmosphere that Bioshock 1 and 2 provided with Rapture. In the previous games, you were pretty much alone in this strange, dark world. In Infinite Elizabeth is not only almost constantly by your side, but she gives you things to help you along the way. You don't have to worry about managing your health, because Elizabeth gives you healthpacks when you're low. You don't have to worry about not being able to use vigors, because she gives you salts. She even gives you money and the aformentioned ammo. Halfway through the game, you have enough money to buy anything you want, even if you don't spend a lot of time looting. How does this improve the game? It doesn't, it makes it very very boring. You never have to worry about resource management, because you can't run out.

This brings me to the shield. Here is a gameplay element that is entirely tacked on. Why do you have a shield? Why does nobody else have a shield? The shield only serves as a way for you to play like a pissed off teenager. You don't have to worry about dying, because your shield recharges. So you run in, shoot a bunch of people, and then hide while what is essentially a second health bar recharges. The AI is dumb enough to let you do this. This and Elizabeth only serve to make the game easier. Why make the game easier for no reason? Bioshock 1 and 2 weren't even that difficult to begin with. 1999 doesn't even rectify this problem, as it only makes enemies hit harder and sponge more bullets.

Story: The story is an absolute train wreck. It starts off pretty good, but quickly goes off the rails. It all falls apart when you have to help the Vox. Okay, you don't care about the Vox and just want an airship right? Good, Booker feels the same way. Then you go through a bunch of honestly pointless crap, to show you just WHY you should sympathize with the Vox. Fink is a bad man. Minorities are horribly oppressed in Columbia. Okay, maybe I should care about the Vox. And then their leader tries to kill a child, and they end up killing as many innocents as Columbia's police force. So, wait a second here. The minorities are oppressed because they're "uncivilized savages" and to give Columbia a reason to have an army right? Then isn't the whole message of what Columbia is doing is wrong completely nullified when the minorities do exactly what the propaganda claims they'll do?

Not only that, but Comstock is a villain who's never really done anything personally to you. The only reason to dislike him is for what he's done to Elizabeth, which honestly isn't some GREAT ATROCITY. The overarching themes here are supposed to be regret and forgiveness, yet NOBODY forgives anybody for anything in this game. Then, you get to the ending.

Elizabeth is omniscient. She sees all realities and understands them all. If she is omniscient, then wouldn't she have known all of this would happen from the moment she loses her pinkie? If she knew all of this, why not just state it from the start? The only way for her to attain omniscience when the siphon is destroyed is if time is linear. She can attain her powers and thus know everything from that point on. But if time is linear, drowning Booker creates a grandfather paradox. Causality is kind of

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Saying the graphics are mediocre is just a poor way of describing how you don't like the game, the graphics are fantastically colorful and leave a good feeling in your stomach, but that is probably the only decent thing about this game. The engine feels clunky, the fights that were portrayed in trailers didn't match up, the enemies lack originality or depth, the story line went everywhere (the only two remotely interesting parts being the very beginning and the less than climatic ending), and the abilities/mechanics felt watered down. It was a let down for all the hype that "Bioshock" has behind it, titles of which people genuinely enjoyed (you get a major tease of "Rapture" in the end.) I hope "Irrational Games" never has another thing to do with this franchise, or I won't be buying. That's for sure.

The only way you can say this is a 'masterpiece' is if you know nothing about game mechanics, never played the previous games, or have a less than average comprehension ability.

The story is neither here nor there. You can take it or leave it. Personally it left me with a bit of a headache. The gameplay is very good though. I had some of the most memorable firefights I've ever had in single player gaming and I enjoyed being able to have Elizabeth to bring in some cover or a bit of help.
One question, why did they stretch the game out by making me backtrack through a whole area?? This spoilt it!! I gave up collecting everthing and looking for everything after the first couple of hours.
I loved the start and the end but halfway through I stopped playing for 2 days and loaded Crysis 3 up again. When I got back it was worth it but you just feel cheated at times. It's as though the developers ran out of ideas and decided to pad the game out.
Don't get me wrong I enjoyed playing Bioshock Infinite but it's nowhere near a GOTY and not a 10 out of 10. If I had paid £30 for this I would have been a bit upset but I paid £35 for this and Crysis 3 together so no hard feelings 2k. In short, good game to play over Easter but if it was an Xbox game, I'd be trading it in when finished. Wait for this to drop in price, it's worth £19.99.

I was worried about having to play with an NPC for 80% of the game, but looking back I really think Elizabeth only enriched the gaming experience. I only have one, tiny nit-pick about the game: the two weapon limit. The limit is more realistic and makes the game more challenging, BUT I found that at times I was using the same weapons over and over. Still, this is a minor complaint because the moment you finish Infinite, you will want to start a new game and use different weapons, different tactics, etc. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I almost wanted to give this game an 8, but then I remembered that I had so much fun playing it that I wanted to play it again right away! The thing about this game is that I loved it for the gameplay and characters, but it falls short in a big way for me personally. This was a fun game, but the story is somewhat flawed. Now I'll say right now, and admit right now, that in a game like this there are automatically going to be things that you have to take as is. In a fantasy/sci fi/surreal game or whatever you can call this insane game, you have to accept that there are things that there are no explanation for. Which is fine because there's no reason to spend hours explaining how the skyhooks actually work, and how you can jump from a skyline 50 meters onto the ground and take not a lick of damage. It's pointless, as Shakespeare said, "Brevity is the soul of wit", the game doesn't need to explain little things like this because it detracts from the story. But the problem is that character reactions are often... I would say confusing. >spoilers< First of all when you find Elizabeth and break her out, after she sees that she's been watched, she starts asking "What am I!?" First of all, Elizabeth is probably the best thing about the game, but the dialogue in the first part of the game is actually kind of silly. Why would she ask "what am I?" You find out almost instantly that she spent all of her time trapped in the tower reading books, that's how she knows how to lockpick, read geographical coordinates, and that crap. Yet even with all that reading she doesn't find it weird that she can open doors to other dimensions? Nothing even hinted to her that this wasn't normal? I was actually kind of surprised personally that she didn't catch on. There's a lot to be asked about her in general. Basically we are told songbird took care of her while she was in the tower, but that leads me to wonder why she can even talk or read in the first place. She acts like a refined citizen, even more strangely speaking like she's from the year 2000 (as if that is a humans default speaking tone), no old style accent or cadence like booker. The problem here is twofold; she is a fully grown, well groomed female with exceptional vocal skills yet she acts like she has no idea about things outside the tower. She seems to have a comprehensive knowledge of columbia sometimes, and other times not at all. Examples like not knowing what cotton candy are, or why there are two different bathrooms for racial types seem like pretty weird things. Especially the bathroom thing, racial separation is a pretty big thing in columbia. Beyond the strange behavior of the characters which often raises more questions than anything, the fact is Elizabeth is the most impressive AI character to ever follow you around in a first person shooter. Her facial expressions reflect the mood of the level, when you stand around she'll often go lean on something or look at an object on the ground. She will be shocked when you mutilate someone with the skyhook, on top of all of this she's about as strong as she looks aka not very. It's nice to see a female character in a video game that isn't the typical "feminist opinionated butch chick". Elizabeth is probably the most impressive part of this game besides some of the visuals that have been put together. Lastly the story. The story is a little more jumbled than the first bioshock, it still seems to make sense at first, but the later half of the game starts to get a little bit well, stupid. The closer the game seems to get to the core of all the WHY questions that have been put in your head the less it seems it's going to reveal them. The writing is the typical bioshock style. By which I mean psuedo intellectual philosophical crap. It's all the same as the first bioshock, a lot of stuff that sounds cool, but in the end could mean a million different things to different people, and ultimately fails to deliver a message that results in a conclusion. By the end of the game you wonder why you should even do anything because the longer the game goes on the more Elizabeth seems to know but can't explain to you. Eventually I felt like I was just following her around hoping for the best. In the end that's really how the game ends. With you following Elizabeth around, hoping for an answer to why and how any of what happened happened. But it doesn't quite get there. Even with all of that crap in the story though, the ending is definitely not bad and the story is definitely not boring. Albeit silly and often cryptically pointless. In conclusion great game, ambiguous but interesting story, and fantastic character personality. Expand

Soundtrack: annoying. The music was great, but it's just that when there is zero original music and you already have all the soundtrack's classical songs on CD, you don't want to hear them in a game like this. It destroys the atmosphere and gets old really fast. It's fine to use a popular song a couple of times in a game, but not all the time. For those who want to buy the soundtrack... how about just buying the original records? Controls: mediocre for a PC game, but nothing seriously wrong. Plot: a mixed bag. I felt like the writing was both imaginative and lazy at the same time kind of goes with the general idea of the game... I was disappointed in the end, however. You know the feeling you get when a story ends in "...but it was all just a dream" that's almost the feeling I got from the ending. Then there is the action: mediocre at best. Boring enemies, mostly boring firefights, generic shooting most of the time. Hide behind crates while loading your shields, shoot waves of brainless enemies pretty much just running towards you and throw in a couple of spells (vigors) if you have mana (salt). Sound original? Not really. How about a cyborg (handyman) every now and then so that it kills you instantly after you respawn, because you happen to respawn at its feet. Sound like fun? Not really. I played on hard difficulty level, and most of the game was quite easy, but suddenly there were scenes where you died a few times in a row, which did not feel that well balanced as a gaming experience. Years after finishing them, I'm still thinking of how great games Bioshock 1 and 2 were, how smooth and fun the action was, how good and crazy the characters and story was. I just finished Bioshock Infinite an hour ago, and I can't really think of any interactive scenes worth remembering. If you are new to the series, definitely go for the previous two rather than this. If you are a Bioshock fan, try this one out but ready yourself for disappointment. Expand

Elizabeth is so convincingly brought to life that you'll find yourself talking to the screen, and when the journey is over you'll miss her. The gameplay is great fun. The weapons and character abilities are innovative and a blast to use. They are simple to use but difficult to master, and you'll want to replay the game once you get the hang of things. In many ways, this game raises the bar for game developers. The team that created this obviously poured out their heart and soul and it shows at every turn, but having said that, it's not perfect. You don't get to choose or design the character you play, the part is thrust on you. A lot of times I felt that I was playing the role of a bit of a jerk. The biggest flaw in the game is that it's linear and you really can't make any meaningful choices in how things eventually play out- you're basically along for the ride. Combat overall is more streamlined (=simplified) experience, but feels right nontheless. Elizabeth is one of the greatest npc companions to be seen in fps game.
On the other hand, overal graphical detail is a joke and although from artistical perspective can be sometimes beautiful, Columbia simply wasn't my thing. Main problem I have with the game (besides the absolutely ridiculous hype it somehow managed to create) is how the story fits into the game. It doesn't. Almost all of it (the important parts anyways) is stuffed to the last few chapters and how much sense it will make depends solely on how many hints you manage to find on your way there. That is simply not how storytelling is supposed to work, not to meniton the comlete lack of choice have in it. Were the gameplay and story in some sort of balance, resulting game would be about the third of its size at best. The storytelling is just terrible and it makes the story look way more complex than it really is and that's probably what generates all the hype. The story itself is pretty intereting and somewhat complex and would've made for a great movie, but the way it is told here is just sad and it hardly supports any actual gameplay.

Although the graphics are great I'd play this as a text-based game just to play the story. This story is amazing, competing with Mass Effect on a higher level then one can imagine. The lore is great, the science is accurate (relatively) and the characters are incredible. There are not enough words in the English language to describe how good this game is so I'll stop right here!

Just because I have to write something negative about the game; the combat is, as with any single-player story-based game, not so good. It's better than most games in it's league but not great. Satisfactory but not the reason to play this game.

I took two points off of BioShock Infinite, the first being there is way, way, way too much combat in the game. Every 10 seconds it's room after room of enemy swarms, flooding the room, attacking you. I found myself enjoying the more peaceful missions better then cutting through hordes of people.

The second reason why I deducted a point was simply how linear the game was. I feel as though it could have been a little bit more open ended. I know we cannot expect this of the BioShock franchise, but a more open world would have been greatly appreciated. In a floating city driven by rail based travel, the world is fairly closed and basically pushes you through the entire story, almost as if down a hallway. All in all, it's exactly what you'd come to expect from a BioShock game, it looks good, plays good and sounds good. As always the story and characters are compelling and interesting. I am sure this will be a game of the year FPS in 2013.

I was really looking forward to this game. I started playing it a week ago, and it took only 8 hours to finish. Pretty short but that's not a huge deal breaker. I wasn't wowed by the graphics but they certainly weren't bad.

The game play was very average. Fighting was extremely easy. I played on the medium setting which felt so much like easy that I got bored very quickly with fighting. I died in the final fight a few times, but that was the only time in the whole game that I felt I was actually challenged. The game very much hand holds you from one clue to the next making it a railroad style game, which is ok since the story was very enjoyable but it is not at all an open world sandbox style game. Not even close.

As for characters in the game, I found their voice acting great, very well done, but the nonessential characters were extremely bland and didn't even move when you approach them or react to your presence except in a few extremely rare instances. They are not well rendered. They move stiffly and leave a lot to be desired. The weapon choices were a fairly obvious mix, though some had some interesting mechanics. But ammo was so plentiful i never felt like I had to conserve my shots or take careful aim since I was sure to find enough rounds to keep going. I also found the use of special clothing you can wear a cool touch but it was too hard to tell what the different outfits would do. And then we get to vigors, special powers you get from drinking potions. Total waste of time. You can play the entire game without needing to use them really, except on a few occasions where you must use it to activate something. They are so poorly implemented that they have very little benefit. The combat is already so easy with guns, that using special powers is basically like playing easy mode with cheats. Why bother?

On the whole I think this game was pretty blah. For a price of $60 on Steam I expect to be entertained and challenged thoroughly for several hours. I was entertained pretty well for a few, but honestly I almost gave up on the game after 2 because it was just so easy and with no interaction from NPC's it gets bland very fast. This game should be ignored until it hits bargain bins at $20. then it might be worth while. I would even say $30 is a decent price for this game.

I'm going to keep this short and sweet. Few games come along that blow your mind like Bioshock. I haven't experienced such a thrilling ride since, well, Bioshock 1. If you are here looking at the rating, deciding whether to buy it or not, you are wasting precious time. Get down to the store, buy it ONLY on PC. An experience like this comes rarely. Nuff said.

Bioshock franchise alway had a different atmosphere graphically, its maybe not a benchmark game but in its way has a majestic world. I don't get why so many people complain its not a crysis caliber graphics, it's not meant to be that kind of game. All this game beauty is contained in its truly jaw dropping scenario. You will be quite lost at first, trust me, but this is by far one of the most MIND BLOWING story I've ever come to play. Well, everything that makes a game a game is beyond ridiculously super uber amazing in BioShock Infinite. The art style (the way people look; faces, etc) is nothing short of genius. It is a little repetitive, such as the random people you see looking the same (As far as I have seen, I think there is only one female head mesh apart from Elizabeth's) but beyond the first ten minutes of the game, you won't notice it at all. The audio department is also top notch. There is a resemblance to the prior BioShock's, with a wondrous and distinctive difference that fit's Columbia very well. The way the game play's, as with the first BioShock, is barely linear at all, allowing for 101 different routes to deal with the game's deviously clever obstacles. The use and design of the sky-rail highlights this, allowing you to find new places, weapons and ways to beat enemies with a twist. The slow but steady introduction of different guns and vigors also allows for a large differentiation in the way that you do things through the game, compared to what you may have done at the start. Upgrading health and tools is now far easier and less frustrating, as there are far more than 5 different opportunities to do so (Yeah, I'm looking at you, #1). The AI (The way the friends and enemies move about the level, where they take cover etc) is a groundbreaking advance in this area. Elizabeth's interaction with the environment is incredibly accurate, making observation's, taking cover and throwing you (literally) ammo just when you need it. She is simply delightful to have around. But the thing that I must stress is how astounding the story is. It is an example of simply awesome storytelling, equal to great's such as the Uncharted series. Columbia and your time there is a triumph of inspiring, imaginative minds. There are plot twists which are genuinely surprising, keeping the game lively as you play. It has been the only story line which I have been interested in in a very long time. BioShock Infinite is a refreshingly new, inspiring addition to the premium world of your game pile (Or steam list). I don't care what else comes out this year, it's my game of the year (And I'm literally oogling GTA 5). Just... get it. Now. Go on, now. Yes, now. JUST GET IT :D Expand

Without giving anything away, the story is absolutely fantastic. It is well-written, incorporates many different themes flawlessly, has strong character development, and concludes with a thought provoking ending that will have you thinking about everything you experienced in the game. The setting of Columbia, a city in the sky, was the perfect place for this all to take place. It is beautiful, and you get to watch as it slowly falls apart on your quest to bring home Elizabeth and stop Zachary Hale Comstock.

But what is a game without gameplay? Well, this game has highly enjoyable gameplay. To combat your opposition, you use a combination of guns and vigors (BioShock Infinite's version of plasmids). How will you deal with those soldiers of the Founders' army? Will you use the fiery Devil's Kiss vigor to burn them to ashes? Will you just mow through them with a machine gun? Or will you use a strategic combination of both? There are many ways to handle a single scenario. The problem is, throughout the 10-15 hour campaign, there is not much incentive to change your strategy. For example, even though there are plenty of vigors at your disposal, there is little reason to swap away from two in particular. The weapon balance is also rather poor. Once you pick up the Carbine, never put it down. Same goes for the Hand Cannon. The automatic weapons and the heavy weapons are mediocre at best, as they chew through ammo and deal relatively poor damage. However, in the end, these shortcomings in balance are not enough to damper the experience. The combat is a blast, and you'll enjoy every second of it.

This game also encourages you to explore the world as much as you can. If you don't you'll find yourself unable to afford the weapon and vigor upgrades. But worse, if you don't explore the environment, you'll miss out on plenty of voxophones. Voxophones are audio recordings, and are crucial to fully understanding the story. Plus, why wouldn't you explore this world? It's beautiful!

It is time to deal with the elephant in the room. Is Elizabeth a terrible game-long escort mission? The answer to that is NO. Elizabeth is not only one of the most remarkable female followers in a video game, she is also one of the most remarkable characters in the history of video games. Her character is very similar to a classic Disney princess. Energetic, exciting, and cheerful. However, being that this game isn't a Disney fairy tale, her character will grow progressively darker and darker along with the game itself. However, the best part about her; not only is she fully capable of taking care of herself in combat, but you probably wouldn't survive without her. Besides the fact that she'll keep you supplied with ammo, salts, and health, she can use her special ability of opening tears in time and space. What does this mean? It means she can open tears containing health, guns, friendly turrets, and more, to aid you in combat. The catch is, she can only open one at a time, which leaves you with a decision. Do you want the tear containing a turret to help you defeat your enemies? Or do you want a tear that will keep your salts (the fuel for vigors) up? This adds on to the number of ways you can deal with a combat scenario, adding not only to the re-playability of the game, but also the depth of the combat.

One last thing worth noting is the sky-lines, which tie into traversing the city of Columbia and combat. You use a magnetic hook to speed down a metallic railway in the sky. This allows you to not only get from point A to point B, but to get the upper hand in a battle against your enemies. For example, say a Motorized Patriot (a massive, menacing robot that resembles either George Washington or Abraham Lincoln, depending on the faction) is keeping you pinned behind cover. Well, you could then use the sky-line to flank it and shoot it in the back.

Overall, legendary game. Rarely does a first person shooter have not only a brilliant story, but fantastic gameplay.

Almost all of the political philosophy is lost a certain way into the game due to a focus on multiverses, which is interesting on it's own but eventually reaches an ending that doesn't have anything to do with the world and politics of Columbia at all. I was disappointed because I was under the assumption that the writers were trying to fix the flaws the original bioshock had, but it does not ruin the whole game. Then comes the mind warping ending which makes you questing the more "simple" progression in the beginning and find subtle clues that were left throughout. Loved how they brought both the quantum paradox and divergent universe theories together to tell the story. Can easily go over your head and can take time to settle. Graphics are not as great as the developers hyped them to be for PC. They use a lot of lighting trickery. Models and textures are what I would call average. But, the art style is beautiful. Amazing how they can create contrasting worlds in the same game. Animations are also very smooth and mostly organic. These are why I can let the other things slide.

Gameplay is also average similar to other shooters but with magic on the side (Almost identical to the other Bioshock games). There is the added dimension of the skylines which are really fun and super easy to navigate not becoming an unnecessarily complicated mechanic to lengthen the game, but to help speed things up a bit and also give you a wonderful view of this magnificent world. The game is certainly a lot easier than the original games. It was a breeze all the way, although the end became a bit tricky. There was little need for ammo/magic conservation or tactical cover. Ammo is quite plentiful and your health somewhat regenerates (not like the first game). This is not a bad thing this time round, as it was still super fun and kept you focused on the awesome story. There is 1999 mode which should increase difficulty after you complete your first playthrough.

My only gripe with the game is the save system. There are no multiple save slots, nor can you truly load your game from different points from where you progressed. I am personally okay with not being able to make manual saves, as this would make the game far too easy and remove the "game" or the fun in the challenge.

None of the small problems remove from what makes this game great. Certainly one of the greatest games of all time. Definitely one with possibly the greatest story that even rivals A-grade films like Inception.

The themes of racial discrimination, American exceptionalism, fanatical religious teachings, income inequality and violent uprisings are there, but are left as themes, and undeveloped themes at that. The chatter of the citizens is atmospheric, but too rare, and the citizens themselves are wooden figurines without emotion. Even Elizabeth, for all care and labour the designers have put into her is far from the girl we've expected since gameplay video at E3'11. Yet, for all its shortcomings, Infinite shines in the last quarter of the game. The asylum part was my personal favorite, tragic, yet nuanced and beautiful at the same time. And its main point that you can't wash away your sins, but have to live with them and let them make you better is delivered so masterfully, that you are left pondering it long after the credits and the ending scene. Surely, it's a variation on the Planescape theme --What can change the nature of a man? Regret. but that doesn't diminish the game in any way. So while I'm longing for what the game could be, I still find it hard to give it anything below 9. It's not perfect, but you would do yourself a disservice if you miss it. Expand

The floating city of Columbia is amazing on PC, on console the graphics are good but it has a little bit of frame rate problems, and is not that a big problem threw out the game. The game play is amazing and really fun you can combo using a pistol and setting the guy on fire which is crazy fun with all the types of vigors. the game is 10hrs if you play straight threw the game, if you don't it will take you i say 13hrs around there. the characters are really good and they grow on you later on in the game. Elizabeth is a amazing character because she helps you in when your in a gun fight. She will give you ammo, med packs for health, and find some money to help you build up your weapon upgrades. the awesome thing she can open up is a thing called tears which help in the game. the voice acting is really great because the voice actors really seem like the characters in Bioshock Infinite. using the sky hook is a blast. That's where the major flaw lies in this otherwise well-polished and enjoyable action game. The story fails to deliver the satisfactory climax, or even a satisfactory epilogue. Instead, it goes out with a whimper, like a failed film-student project. Still, the beginning is a well grounded start to what could have been game of the year, with characters that start off believable and interesting. Too bad it steers off course and never reaches full promise. Merely a "good" game when all is said and done. Expand

Bioshock Infinite is a Bioshock game, period. I know it looks different and may seem different, but a lot of the things from Bioshock are in Bioshock Infinite. While Infinite has its own look and everything, which makes it feel new and fresh, this is a Shock game through and through, so you have a mix of the familiar with something entirely new. The combat is very similar to the first game, but guns have more of a kick this time around. Plasmids also make a comeback in the form of Vigors, which allow for a lot of variation and experimentation in combat. There's also the inclusion of sky-lines, which make some fights really exciting and frantic. I'd say the combat scenarios are an improvement from the first Bioshock. You'll also be looting the environment and corpses for money, food, salt (for Vigors), etc.

Bioshock's art direction is simply stunning. It takes a very talented art team to pull off something like Infinite, and the team at Irrational was definitely up to the task. The amount of detail in each and every environment is staggering. You'll definitely understand why this game was such an undertaking and took so many years to create when you see it in action. Then you have Elizabeth, which is one of the most realized characters in all of gaming. Elizabeth's animations and interactions are one of Infinite's many highlights.

But Bioshock Infinite is ultimately all about the narrative, which it delivers on from beginning to end. This game's story is hands down one of the best in the business, even going as far as surpassing the original Bioshock. While Bioshock was a masterpiece, its ending left a little something to be desired. But this isn't the case with Bioshock Infinite. This game has an ending that'll blow you away.

Further the lack of save game function leaves you wondering how long ago the last checkpoint was, and whether or not the things you've collected up until now will still be with you when you load back in. The combat was alright, the tears add a new element of gameplay that was enjoyable, but there is mostly nothing new. The characters are perhaps the most redeeming aspect of the game, and the voice acting was very pleasing, and while most people may find the ending and major plot points satisfying or 'deep', i think it was mostly pseudo-depth created by the unnecessary complexities and conceptual tangles it creates that makes it seem good, any close inspection on the 3rd act and ending will reveal pretty major plot holes. In the end, the game was worth playing and was definitely worth a good rating, but i hope this is not the direction they take the Bioshock series in, and certainly does not live up to the acclaim of the first Expand

Those who are complainning here just didn't play it until the end or just don't have a computer good enough to apreciate the graphics. I just hope it gets some cool DLCs, otherwise I'd downgrade this to 9. I even saw some people comparing this to other multiplayer shooters, this is not one. It's perfectIt's indeed an amazing game.

Just as the original BioShock was a capitalism without constraint and science without moral/ethical boundaries.

As for this game the story was excellent and grabbed me right away and held me through the end. It even makes one wish to replay it once more and once you do there are tons of subtle things that suddenly take on new meanings. The game play is fun, exciting at moments and keeps you on your toes.
