Why repeating and spitting the same thing out over and over again is acceptable, I'm not sure. We've seen permutations of the same thing coming out repeatedly, and I don't see the need to applaud the effort that went into this game. We've seen permutations of the same thing coming out repeatedly, and I don't see the need to applaud the effort that went into this game. It's the same old with a glossy new finish, and a couple of tweaks that really should have been included much earlier (like being able to resume reloading). The first person story is a disaster. Not only is it predictable, it denies all sense, and loves riding the sino-russian thing to the grave. We get it. It's an easy idea to run off of. I paid you ~$70. Show me you deserve it. It's not enough to demand that much for basically the same game with only a new gloss--which wasn't really needed for the game experience (yay, realistic sun in my eyes... great, now can i have the key/control that lets me present my realistic hand to block the angle of the sun?.....? well? if you're going to waste so much time adding irritants, you're not doing yourself any favors here...)It's not enough to pay $70 to also update the game and essentially present it as a hacker-free environment... it's going to last for all of 3-6 months at best.

On to the interface. BF3 was ridiculously convenient for navigating squad settings, picking out your weapons and attachments, along with squad perks. It was very quick and easy to access this customization. Despite having played the beta and played this game for a while, the entire thing is still opaque to me. The amount of information available is a bit ridiculous, especially where it neither adds to the game, nor to the player's awareness of the fire-arms.

-3 for a ridiculous single player campaign. Single player was the main driving reason for which I buy games, it also has to be fun to play solo, and re-playable. Some stories are brilliant, and there are games I enjoy re-playing for the single-player component. The single player in this was trash. And that's ignoring the fact that a squad of mentally disabled children would have been more effective for helping you play through the single player than the AI that governs the single-player team-mates.

-3 for what is fundamentally a recycle with a spit-polish. I appreciate that there is only so much that can be done with an idea, but, really, I just don't see what Dice has tried to do in order to keep my loyalty apart from un-necessarily lavishing me with more guns to choose from. I expected the beta release to be fairly elementary. It's not the case. The beta is exactly what you will buy.

That aside i don't know what EA was thinking off when releasing a title which has so many bugs its just a disgrace to the franchise i hope you loose alot of customers on this stunt. And oh yeah if you like CoD this is for you, and if you are like me you hate running for 15 secs and getting sniped/shot from behind by a camper. Stay the hell away from the title...

The sad fact is, they spent more time creating the game for the console tards than actually making a game for the general public and keeping it in the scheme of Battlefield 3. The graphics aren't as good as 3.
The worst part is, if you are playing on PC your game crashes far too much for enjoyable game play. What the hell was the beta for if they can't fix that pre release? Dice say they fixed the hitmarkers, this is a lie. There seems to be a lack of quality all round, The sound drops out, textures go away at times, sniping is made way to easy and the hud in jets and choppers is such a bad colour you cant see it at times while flying.
If I didn't know any better I would say the game was rushed to market.
The new aspect of course being commander. What a boring game mechanic, You sit there and do what? drop things strategically while your whole team is just messing about. Its a great concept but heavily floored.

Despite the above mentioned though, I enjoy Call of Battle, Modern Field Warfare. Though that could just be down to my squad

Singleplayer mode is god-awful. From the countless bugs and glitches produced in the rushed, last minute campaign, to the dumb AI, frustrating mechanics and dreadful plot. Negatives (mostly) aside, the multiplayer portion of the game is excellent. Fast paced gameplay in 64-player 'Rush', to the huge scale battles of 'Conquest Large', and team play in 'Squad Deathmatch', plus some all new gamemodes most of which were definitely not ripped off of Call of Duty... *ahem*. The multiplayer, in all seriousness, does provide a satisfying experience all in all; the new destructive play brought through 'Levolution' and many unlockables to be... well, unlocked.

Multiplayer does have it's fair share of bugs, however: servers breaking half way through a game and kicking everyone off, long load times, and graphical glitches hopefully all to soon be ironed out by DICE.

Overall, Battlefield 4 is a fun, exciting experience, let down by the single player story mode, and the countless bugs users have encountered throughout the game. EA clearly pressured DICE to release BF4 early for next gen console support, meaning many huge bugs were left in the game. The main point is what could DICE have done with the incredible multiplayer if they didn't have to produce the single-player. Maybe added more maps, weapons, vehicles, removed bugs, polished the experience... And with a hefty price tag £55 on Origin for the Standard Edition (why would you pay that?), the game does not appear ready for it's full release yet.

Nothing to add to its glory. But it is unacceptable that client constantly hangs up. It is a good game and after few patches it will be one of the best shooters ever. Otherwise it adds almost nothing to BF3. Just polished (but constantly crashing) BF3.

The maps aren't really designed for specific modes such as Rush and none of which are overly thrilling to play either. The overall product is riddled with bugs and many matches suffer chronic stutters in play with bursts of lag or just general dreadful texture issues.

The bullet detection is laughable with many players throwing hacking accusations when actually it's the game that is woefully inconsistent. With the poor map design; many matches just decline into complete carnage and adding the bugs to the equation, multiplayer just becomes tiresome and tedious. Frostbite 3 is barely a noticeable improvement compared to the jump BF3 made with its new engine. The destruction ceases to impress after a while and as matches become more erratic and chaotic; you'll barely have time to notice the alleged spectacular scripted crashes and bangs.

Kudos to EA though they have done a marvelous job of conning people with a glitzy presentation at E3. The finished product is nothing compared to the impressive portrayal that we saw at the show with the numerous gameplay videos. Battlefield 4 still feels as if it's in alpha-mode as this product is clearly not finished and is far too broken to deserve to be one sale. EA and DICE should be blocked from distributing any DLC until they rectify the bugs but even if this is done, the core game and its gameplay is extremely cumbersome, exhausting and shallow.

It's ***WAY*** overpriced for what it is (basically another unfinished CoD arcade shooter pretending to be a "serious" military game with massive pre-release over-hype). I loved Call of Duty as a game in its own right, but the obsession with trying to turn every... single... shooter/franchise... into a "scripted cinematic experience" is getting very tedious.

+5% GFX improvements do not seem to correlate with +100% higher system requirements. GFX somehow manage to look *worse* in some areas. The issue is not "everyone has slow hardware", it's simply a badly optimized inefficient engine in terms of quality/performance ratio. 4-5hr bug-ridden single-player campaign. "Levolution" just marketing speak for "dynamic map scripting" which is hardly unique.

"Ooh look! Pretty pre-scripted building collapsing" seems to be the beginning and end of BF4 'improvement' over BF3. It seems the more "cinematically scripted" new games become, the less fun they are to play in terms of actual gameplay. And given the game was released by EA (enough said), you can bet all of the premium priced DLC's will take priority over bug fixing...

Battlefield 4 is certainly one of the bigger FPS titles in the year 2013 but it is also one of the biggest disappointments. Major selling point of this game is as you probably already know vehicular warfare, team oriented gameplay, level destruction and beautiful graphics. It does all that, however, not to a point this game would be enjoyable.

The first impression is very good, you start off on a what looks to be decently engineered map in a beautiful environment. The real disappointment starts when you begin actually playing. There is no co-operative gamemode (which to be honest is partially a good thing as it was terrible in the previous game), the campaign is disappointing and there is a lot of issues with the engine at the moment of writing this review.

    Pros:
    - Decent graphics
    - Many weapon unlocks for your soldier
    - Decent voice acting in the campaign

    Cons:
    - The campaign is much shorter and much worse than in it's predecessor (it feels as if not much effort was put into it might have just skipped the campaign altogether instead of releasing a disappointing one)
    - Vehicle unlocks are still around (yes, your jet fighter will be a pathetic piece of junk with nothing to fight with when you get inside)
    - No hardcore mode on release
    - All guns are toys, they deal almost no damage (at the moment of writing this review, hardcore mode is not implemented yet)
    - Map scale too large (in Conquest mode and similar) for the amount of players supported by the engine (active fighting is usually in only one point of the map, whereas the remaining points are half the time empty, one starts to wonder where is that all out war gameplay)
    - Numerous engine issues such as broken shaders (objects appear completely black at times), crashes, campaign at certain points unplayable due to bugs (requires checkpoint/mission restart)
    - "Levolution" (level destruction/environment changes) is always the same and gets boring rather quickly

In addition to the above, it seems polish/russian players cannot play the game in English without downloading localization and cracked exes which is ridiculous (polish players can pick Russian, but not English???).

NOTE: I have been trying to debug some of the issues on my end such as doodling with drivers and so on, this is not a dumbfire review

First of all, this game was not ready for release, there are so many bugs and glitches that need to be patched. The beta was clearly a monumental waste of time because I am pretty sure that most people had less issues with the beta than the actual main release. That problem by itself however was not enough to make my opinion of BF4 so bad. Although I could write for an hour or two about all of the bugs, I am just going to leave it at that.

The other main problem that I see is that DICE seems to have forgotten its fan base. Us Battlefield fans are very loyal and I feel like we stick with BF even when times are tough. However, this game is such an abomination and bastardization of previous renditions that I could hardly call it part of the Battlefield franchise at all. BF4 is basically tailored to COD and Halo fans. The remnants of military realism that BF3 had are gone. What we are left with is an arcade type shooter that could be equated to COD with vehicles. All my life I have known the saying of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". Why did DICE take a franchise that was essentially not broken and just about perfect in numerous ways, and change everything about it?

With all that being said, I still think there are many great things about BF4. I am just very disturbed by the direction that the Battlefield franchise is going in and I hope that the true Battlefield fans stand up and make their voices heard.

OH AND ONE MORE THING!!! Any moron who complains about single player isn't a true Battlefield fan. If you were a real BF fan you would appreciate that there is a single player in the first place because Battlefield isn't about single player AT ALL. Who cares about the campaign? All that should matter in a Battlefield game is the multiplayer. PERIOD. I am pretty sick and tired of seeing crappy reviews based on single player. The first game that even had a single player in BF was BFBC I think. So seriously, stop whining about the campaign.....if that is really all you got the game for then you are an idiot for wasting $60.

The unlock system runs deep each gun starts with a bare ironsights, and most attachments can be earned by killing x number of enemies. Then there are battlepacks that contain rare items.

Gunplay is really fun and responsive, I don't really feel the need for magnifying optics like I do in many other games, the russian red dot does it for me. Oh, and burst fire is a treat extremely accurate and fun.

I run a below minimum spec rig, using intel i3 and GeForce GTS 450. With all graphics on low I get excellent performance 30+ fps, no mouse lag whatsoever.

Overall, as a BF2 and Project reality veteran, I say that this is the shooter that will keep me entertained for a very long time

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The next installment of the battlefield franchise has finally arrived, but unfortunately like most games this year it is not with out it's problems. The battlefield franchise has always set its multiplayer first since the very beginning of the franchise all the way back to the first battlefield, battlefield 1942. back then single player was just the multilayer maps with bots. But over the past few installment they have put more effort into there single player experience like battlefield bad company 1, battlefield bad company 2 and battlefield 3. Bad company 2 was a sequel to bad company 1 and brought over the same characters you played as and with from the first installment. You would assume that battlefield 4 being a sequel to battlefield 3 would do the same, but unfortunately this is not the case. You do see three characters from the BF3 but they are killed off and not flushed out, and you never know what happened to the others that were in BF3. This time you take the over the roll of a new character and are in a new squad. Unlike bf3 you don't switch to other characters to see a different sides of the story, you are the same guy though the whole game. This can be a good thing if its done right but unfortunately its not bf4. You can given the ability to order to attack this it, not move, that’s it and unfortunately you squad won't really do anything unless you tell them to, which like most AI these day is typical and makes you ask the question, why even include them. Now the story is very dry and could have been much better, quick version China's peaceful leader “killed” by Rogue Chinese general, you find said “killed” leader, attacked, get separated, trap, double cross, double agent, peaceful leader reveals himself, general pissed you blow him up. Kinda of like the movie “tears of the sun” but not good. The ending does even feel like and ending and you don't really care what happens, BF3 you were trying to stop a madman from setting off a nuke in a major city it was just more gripping to me. I found bf3 story way more entertaining then BF4 story, and that’s saying something because BF3 story was not the best, but way better then BF4s story. I mean you didn't not get that rush like when the theme kicked in when launching from the aircraft carrier in BF3. Every time the theme song builds in bf4 its for nothing and when it finally hits its peak you find yourself scratching your head asking why, this is not the right time for that. So the single player is bad.
Now lets move on to why I keep returning the battlefield franchise and same with the rest of the loyal fans the multiplayer. When it works its great. A lot more customization options, new weapons, attachments, still all there and its great. The updated destruction is amazing, the water effects are great, levelolution is great, the maps are breathtaking, when it running good everything looks fantastic. It does feel as though they increased the speed of the game, which you will hear a lot of comparing to what else call of duty(I was since the begin call of duty I on PC of course, until Modern Warfare 2, after that the rest were well you know, crap), yes its faster but it almost feel like its more toward BF2 speed, but in my opinion it was a good choice.
Now here are the negative sides of the game, first of all if you have not heard or read online, the game freezes/crashes, a lot.... it did the same in the beta and I thought they would have addressed this but it was not obviously. So you will find it extremely frustrating when you been playing for 15 mins, parachute down behind a guy go to knife him and stop.....game froze. The freeze can happened at any time, I have it had it freeze 2 mins into a game all the way up to 18 mins into the game. In addition there are bugs/glitch like your sound cutting out not completely but enough were you know and its annoying. Also you will have to deal with server crashes during and after a round ends which is also frustrating. I mean with all these problems with the multiplayer and how bad the single player was I wish the scrap the single player all together and paid more attention to what keeps bring me and others back to the series. The graphic engine is great but you may feel the game was like how I considered BF2142 was to BF2, an expansion or could have been a mod. Don't get me wrong the game runs way better and looks amazing it just feels as though its frostbite 2.5 not really frostbite 3.
All and all when the Battlefield 4 multiplayer runs with no problems its a fun and exiting experience that makes it all worth it. But until they get all the bugs figured out, I would recommend waiting a few weeks before purchasing it unless you want to be frustrated.

"Something went wrong" that is a message you will (often) see after your game will crash. Considering all that is happening with multiplayer, that is: not possible to join, disconnections from servers, crashes every couple of minutes, and many, many other annoying issues, I would say that something went wrong in DICE.

At the moment I am writing, BF4 multiplayer is simply not playable.

The multiplayer is better now, and the maps are alright. Operation Locker is like a worse version of Metro, set in some sort of gulag. Horrible map, even more grenade and rocket spam than on Metro.

The game is really beautiful though. Other than Operation Locker, all the multiplayer maps were great. The campaign is also very enjoyable as long as you treat it as a Shoot-em-Up movie. Don't expect an intriguing plot and deep underlying themes, you wouldn't expect that of your typical adrenaline filled action movie. Of course, I've only been able to play the first three and a half levels due to the game being broken, but those levels were enjoyable.

What really pisses me off, which seems to have been repeated, is that the Defib is not unlocked right away. You need to play 2-3 games to actually unlock it. I don't play Assault so that I have a grenade launcher, I do it so I can heal and revive people.

    Pros:
    -Mostly really good multiplayer maps
    -Beautiful graphics

    Cons:
    -Horrible crashes, unplayable campaign
    -Lag online
    -Operation Locker
-Unlocks are too grindy, some are simply not needed

This game has huge production values and yet they can't seem to run a steady gaming session without servers crashing on you and wiping all your unlocks and xp. You will get shot after running behind cover because your opponent saw you out in the open due to the discrepancies in the netcode. It seems that this lack of care and quality is a trend nowadays. Large companies are shoving games out the door before they are polished just so they can hit that holiday sales window and rake in more dough. It is shameless and predatory and this has caused me to lose all respect for the developers. Expand

Battlefield 4 is an excellent multiplayer game and a bland single-player experience, filled with bugs but still nevertheless enjoyable. To start off, this is not BF3.5. Here's a complete list of all the new features:

Frostbite 3 engine (dynamic weather effects and destruction BF3's engine could not handle)
    Commander Mode returning
    Levolution
    Customizable knives and vehicles
    Counter-knife
    Improved and dynamic naval combat
    5-Man squads
    No blue tint
    China faction
    Platoons
    Spectator mode
    Improved and responsive Battlelog
New character models that make it easier to differentiate between faction to faction
Suppression improved; toned down on all weapons except for sniper rifles and light machine guns
    Field upgrades unlocks
    Spot animation
New game modes like Obliteration and Defuse, as well as improvements to existing game modes such as Rush and Conquest.

And that may not even be all of it.

However, one big disappointment for me is the single-player campaign, its ends up turning into a Michael Bay explosions everywhere movie with little to no redeeming qualities. Its an improvement over Battlefield 3's, with much more open environments that allow players to approach levels in multiple ways, but ultimately is pointless. The pacing and writing is abysmal, characters are thin, and is not worth a play-through.

But as a multiplayer game it succeeds. The 64-player battles are unmatched, the destruction is more Bad Company 2 style, as well as a new mechanic called "Levolution." Most of these major map-changing events are triggered by players, but some are not. Levolution is mostly scripted but still nevertheless enjoyable, and change the tide of the battle immensely. Some Levolution events are better than others, the skyscraper on Siege of Shanghai gets old after it falls down 3 or 4 times, but other events like flooding the city on Flood Zone are far harder to trigger and change up the overall gameplay.

The reviews on here are just purely immature, Battlefield 4 is an excellent game, it has noticeable launch issues which decreases its overall appeal but is worth the price of admission.

Spawning mechanics are a disaster too- get used to die cause someone shoot you from behind. Other feature also dont work- liek queuing and plenty of other things. You may expect that crashes will be fixed but things like netcode will remain like thay did in bf3. Singleplayer is a disaster as well its terrible and dumb... but you have to complete last mission 3 times to unlock 3 weapons for mp so....
However! Grapichs are a bit better then in BF3, some maps remind bc2 maps and there is plenty of customisation[ gadgest, camos, attachments, battlepacks, emblems and more]. Gunplay is fun /except netcode issues, lag, and Sniper riffles/ and still Conquest is epic, especially with levolution. Gameplay is a bit different than bf3 so you wont feel bored.

I am polish and even though i bought my game for the same price as for example guys in uk paid i have only two language options to choose from polish and russian. My native translation and voice acting is the worst piece of garbage ever made and its pain to play especially single player. Vehicles are obviously nerfed down and jets/helis are powered up to the max ,therefore its more safe walking on foot and hiding in the bushes to avoid jets/helicopters.

The only 2 bad thing are: They should give you a little more guidance on where to go, as I got stuck a couple of times and confused. The second thing is that there is no 800x600 resolution. Dice has clearly gone out of their way to improve upon Battlefield 3 and deliver an explosive sequel worthy of the Battlefield brand. This is primarily a multiplayer game. The single player campaign may be a bit lackluster, but it is just a bonus thrown on top of an epic online gaming experience.

TTK is so low and life time so short that you are really just dying constantly. The only way to survive is to fly or drive around with your friends repair spamming, but even then when you get focused everything is so weak your destroyed. Don't bother. The actual game seems okay, from what I've played, and steps up the series gameplay in some subtle ways. Paracel Storm (one of the few maps I've been able to get onto and play) really impressed me with the way that changes in the environment affect gameplay (rocking waves, changing weather, and a nice level of continuous player-driven destruction). But I had to get on here to balance out this stupid COD rivalry going on (which, by the way, seems to me to be mostly COD players attacking BF4).

The game is really great. It improves nearly every aspect of the online player experience (except the weapon modification screen which is frustratingly complicated, though I'm getting a handle on it). If you liked BF3 or if at least it interested you but wasn't your thing, check out BF4. DICE and EA are ambitious and most of it they pull off well. If you didn't like BF3s brand of warfare, or prefer smaller, moshpit inspired gameplay chances are BF4 isn't for you. BF4 doesn't want to cater to COD-type warfare. What they do in BF4 is improve their special brand of combat and it really shows. Stop the COD vs BF4 hate. Just play your games and, if you really want to have a good time, stop worrying about the nerdiest rivalry ever and just play both games because they are both good in their own way.

Best Battlefield game so far, it improves many (if not all) of the most hated features about Battlefield 3. This includes better netcode. It is a worthy successor simply put, with great audio, graphics and level design. On top of that with the new features like the new game modes and Levolution make it a great game.

The games runs an improved version of the engine, although many people think it is only a slight increase (aka Frostbite Engine 2.5) with respect to Battlefield 2/ Frostbite Engine 2, it clearly is not. The visual aspect of the game, the handling and the netcode for example are very much so improved without going the 'crysis route' of creating a stunning game that can't be ran properly. Battlefield 4 handles and feels differently then its predecessor, this can be a bit disappointing depending on what you might expect, but in the end it does work better is most aspects, i am sorry to say that if you feel this way but you simply have to adjust... So dit I !

The netcode is still server based which is not the best way to go, but it has been tweaked to such an extend that you as the player don't die behind corners anymore. This still does rarely happen but way less then it used to do. This and other things make the matches way way more enjoyable since there are pretty much no more 'rage moments' for me and overall i feel less cheated by it when it does happen.

The single player of Battlefield 4 has in my opinion been massively improved over Battlefield 3. In Battlefield 3 the story was nonexistent (joke) and felt really chaotic. It really felt like they HAD to showcase everything and made up an story that goes along with that. Off course you should not expect an deep story from a first person shooter but still.. Now for the Battlefield 4 story you could say that same but it is not that bad, it feels way less repetitive although still very linear. Also i don't feel that Dice is forcing me to try and see everything the engine has to offer. The single player is not to long either which in my case is a good thing.

The multiplier is very engaging right from the start, like i said earlier it does feel like a different game and that might upset you a little bit, just like it did to me. But after playing the beta and now the final game i can happily conclude that i am very satisfied with the progress Dice made to the Battlefield series. I came from playing hardcore on Battlefield 3 to Battlefield 4 in normal mode, it looks like dice mixed them up a little bit. The guns do more damage but sniping still 'reacquires' you to aim for the head. The vehicular combat also has been overhauled, the tanks for example don't slip as much around corners and don't have as much ammo so you really have to think about when you shoot (this also applies to infantry as you easily run low on ammo). Air vehicles don't fly though 'thick air' anymore so they are faster and more maneuverable.

Overall it just is a brilliant game and no other that offers this kind of smooth gun play.

Battlefield 4 could just as well be called Battlefield 3.5. The new Battlefield features are only marginal improvements over Battlefield 3, but even as such it leaves the competitors way behind. Hopefully the bugs will be squashed soon. [Nov 2013]

Even if multiplayer wasn't buggy, Battlefield 4 would still only be a barely passable installment in all respects besides the snazzy graphics. EA and DICE played it safe by providing the same thing they did the last time around, with another phoned-in campaign and only minor alterations to the online.

Battlefield 4 keeps soldiering on in the same footsteps as previous games in the series. The lack of worthwhile news makes you wish for more. Dice stays in its comfort zone calls for explosions and not much more. The series needs to evolve or fade out.
