Sad day. The series is becoming more and more *cheap*, very much about explosions and looking like a crappy Transformers movie than actual good gun game/shooting mechanics. The more I play these *huge blockbuster game releases*, the more I find myself being satisfied disproportionately by Steam games that I had never heard of.

The time for sheeple consumerism at teh checkout line for major game releases is finally being gifted with the dawn of a new era, the Steam era of india gaming connections. We have CHOICES! Jut because they lambasted the BF4 marketing campaign on us does NOT mean this game is better than an average score of 6.5!

It's already been plagued with people jet ramming and stuff... The graphics look horribly outdated on the Xbox 360, looking worse than Battlefield 3 (I don't know how that's possible, but it's true...) If they patch the game and fix the balancing, my score would be around 7 or 8. For now, it's going to remain in the middle category. Expand

Battlefield 4 multiplayer is amazing as usual, however its singleplayer's storyline is very weak; one of the worst I've seen. However I do appreciate DICE's effort in hiring native Mandarin speakers for the Chinese characters.

I just don't get the hype, playing it I still find the maps to be rather lacklustre compared to previous maps in the series (not including BF3) and it just feels and looks exactly like BF3...

Maybe I'm just bored of Battlefield, but I don't see that as my problem, they should have done something new with the series.

BF3 inherently had many technical problem including shoddy netcoding, hardware compatibility issues, and general problems that just never got fixed. For PC players hoping BF4 is finally fixed, you're going to be in for a bad time. Yes it is the first day of release, but for a game that took over two years to develop, is that really a viable excuse? So many other games come out nowadays that run perfectly fine from the get go. BF4 honestly runs better than its predecessor but fixable issues still exist. The most obvious is the sound on some maps. It will just cut out and not work at all. It's not an isolated problem, it's a game related problem.

BF4 single player in a nutshell: worthless. The pathetically short campaign will assault your intelligence throughout. It doesn't look like they put a lot of effort into the story but visually it's pretty nice. Little things irked me. For example moving across a bridge in a storm. Soldiers don't get blown off the bridge, but 2 ton vehicles do. And not just slide off, I'm talking about levitating and flying off at violent speed. Yet a 120lb female doesn't get pushed around. OK. Successful games these days are successful because of the little details. You won't find that in the single player.

MP maps are pretty damn good though which make up for the lack of single player but I was having random crashes after about 20 minutes in most cases. Brand new computer that is more than capable mind you. The Battlefield franchise is really starting to push me away from PC gaming. It's the first game I've played that consistently makes you troubleshoot every piece of hardware you have in order to get the game to run.

Campaign is a joke. But we don't play BF for the campaign so I'll skip to the multiplayer. This is an inherently good squad FPS game, probably the best of it's kind. Solid shooting mechanics and a very robust leveling system. It is let down by bad map design, too few infantry-based maps, and a terrible web browser based matchmaking system. 6/10.

BF4 is basically a patch for the previous game - nothing innovative here. My breakdown is as follows:

    1. Graphics: 8/10 - excellent as before, even on low-end rigs
    2. Gameplay: 7/10 - great controls and satisfying experience with good sound effects
    3. Story: 2/10 - not interesting or engaging at all
    4. Multiplayer: 2/10 - stuttering, lag, and crashes

    Overall, average game.

Story: You play as Sgt. Daniel "Reck" Recker--leader of the US Marine squad, Tombstone. With US and Russian conflicts at an all-time high due to the events of BF3--and with China on the verge on siding with the Russians due to the assassination of their leader being blamed on the US--it's up to you and your squad mates to help prevent war from breaking out. As a story, it's not that bad. The voice acting is once again great; the characters are slightly better and more memorable this time around compared to BF3; and the settings are still nice and varied. Unfortunately, you're still a boring silent protagonist with no personality. Overall, the campaign is better than BF3, but it could still be improved upon. 6/10

Gameplay: The shooting remains largely the same as in BF3 (although with no stupid panic-knifing enemies), but with the added addition of squad gameplay. Since you lead Tombstone squad, you can spot enemies for them to shoot, and have them enter vehicles and fight with you. You can also change what weapons and gadgets you use in the campaign to suit your play-style. All of the improvements are nice, but the gameplay is still largely the same as before. 6/10

Graphics: In short, the graphics are everything that made BF3 gorgeous, but made even better and without the annoying blue tint. Although, the vehicle collision and character models can still be better. 9/10

Sound: DICE is excellent at creating realistic sound designs in their BF games. The sound here is everything from BF3, but once again, made even better. Simple as that. 10/10

Multiplayer: Unfortunately, the MP here is disappointing when compared to BF3, and it's not because of its launch issues. For starters, the 4 infantry classes from BF3 return with some tweaks made to their arsenal. One big new feature is "Levolution"--a mostly gimmicky feature where each map has a scripted large-scale destruction sequence (like a building collapsing) caused by player action, and it only affects one part of the map. There are also an abundant amount of vehicles--land, air, and sea--to use from with improved unlock orders; Commander mode--a mode where 1 person steps away from the battlefield and gives orders to all squads on a team in hopes of leading them to victory--returns from BF2 with a few new features that might be considered balance issues like highlighting areas with radar; Assignments--challenges from BF3 that rewarded you with guns and customization items--are also available to add more replay value to the game; the suppression was balanced; and there are still a plethora of gadgets to use. There's a lot to like about BF4, but there are also some MAJOR flaws in its system. The game does have 10 maps, but these maps aren't as fun as 3 and often feature plenty of camping spots like the rooftops of buildings where the only way you can get up there is usually with a helicopter; but even then, you'll probably have to deal with a few squads of campers which might lead to a death. Outside of conquest, these maps mostly SUCK for other modes like Deathmatches or Rush. And speaking of modes, there is a lack of new game modes here. Besides Conquest, Rush, Deathmatches, and Domination (rip-off of CoD's domination mode), there are only 2 new ones, and both flopped. There's Defuse--BF4's attempted response to CoD's Search and Destroy mode that failed--and Obliteration--a "CoD Sabatage-style" mode with 3 bombs on both sides that flops because of the large map size, and the limitation of only 1 bomb carrier; so if you spawn far away from him, the mode becomes a running simulator since you'll have to get up to where the action's happening. The counter-knife system--where if you knife a guy in the front, a QTE pops up--sucks, but 4's BIGGEST sin is it's progression system. For starters, there are an excessive amount of guns to choose from, and while it's good for allowing more customization for the player, there's so many guns that they all start to feel the same. Why would I need 9 different sniper rifles if they all perform the same? It's like DICE copied and pasted several gun stats and merely changed the looks. And unlike BF3, you DON'T unlock guns by progressing your class as the 2 are separate. This means you HAVE to get kills with that gun class in order to unlock more guns. With all classes that have the last gun at somewhere in-between 48K-83K, you would need HUNDREDS of gun kills and assists in order to progress. This is all on top of that same stupid attachment progression system from 3. There are also Battlepacks--packs of random loot from attachments to XP boosts--that are very much unnecessary and almost pay-to-win due to the awful progression system. This game, essentially, is a major GRIND-FEST that only gets fun once you have everything you wanted unlocked, and good luck with that. 6/10

Verdict: The game had promise, but with a grind-y progression system, and maps that only work for Conquest, Conquestfield 4 disappoints.

At its core battlefield is all about epic battles on a big scale with cool toys and gadgets to somewhat simulate real warfare. This game does that but it has terrible net code and some weird game mechanic choices. I am a fan of Battlefield but after six months this game still has lots of issues and I would only recommend it at a discounted price.

I know this game is all about multi player but someone should really address just how bad the campaign was, it was a woefully bad experience! it was like watching one of the worst movies you've ever seen.
the single player campaign could have done with much more work. and again, this is something that most reviewers just don't care to mark down, like this part of the game never exists. its still a component of the game, even if most people buy it for the multiplayer the solo side should still have a large amount of consideration. when you add these two bad gameplay experiences together it should impact the overall score significantly enough to drop it down from good to average.
i'm not going to give this something ridiculous like 0 because it has merits and there are a lot of good things that reviewers did pick up on and that I agree with but I am giving this a lower score than what the average critics gave it as I think thats correct and fair in light of its flaws.
I seriously hope they fired the people responsible for dragging this game down and employ some people who can do the job properly to work on hardline. if hardline is anything like this then make a point of NOT buying it. they've got to win people back by showing they are capable of providing a gaming experience that is worth your money.

You can make a good argument for giving it a 5/10 (but not lower than that) when considering that this game can be summarized as an inferior version of BF3, but this argument becomes less and less relevant as the online BF3 servers become more and more sporadic. The dedicated fanbase to BF4 even two games later is a testament to its greatness.

The multiplayer is better now, and the maps are alright. Operation Locker is like a worse version of Metro, set in some sort of gulag. Horrible map, even more grenade and rocket spam than on Metro.

The game is really beautiful though. Other than Operation Locker, all the multiplayer maps were great. The campaign is also very enjoyable as long as you treat it as a Shoot-em-Up movie. Don't expect an intriguing plot and deep underlying themes, you wouldn't expect that of your typical adrenaline filled action movie. Of course, I've only been able to play the first three and a half levels due to the game being broken, but those levels were enjoyable.

What really pisses me off, which seems to have been repeated, is that the Defib is not unlocked right away. You need to play 2-3 games to actually unlock it. I don't play Assault so that I have a grenade launcher, I do it so I can heal and revive people.

    Pros:
    -Mostly really good multiplayer maps
    -Beautiful graphics

    Cons:
    -Horrible crashes, unplayable campaign
    -Lag online
    -Operation Locker
-Unlocks are too grindy, some are simply not needed

The graphics are great! I love them! A huge improvement over the last Battlefield title and it was better than I had expected, even if I can not run the game on higher settings than medium. However, sometimes the graphics flickers a lot and it becomes difficult to see enemies further away from you, and flickering objects easily draws your attention away from the enemies.

There have been some improvements to the game over Battlefield 3 that I really like. For example being able to select where to spawn by clicking on the map. Also weapon customization has been improved, but I really miss the ability to quickly change weapon with only a few clicks. Now I have to go in and change the weapon in the customization menu instead of doing it at the deploy menu.

Some of the maps are great, while others are just ok, and a few are not worth playing at all I feel. Some of them feel rushed and unfinished, not suited for this kind of game at all. Others are great, and offer huge playability with all the gamemodes available.

Battlelog has disappointed me a little. The server browser is far inferior to the one available for Battlefield 3 and I would really want to see more options when searching to servers. It also doesn't seem to show all servers available and seems kind of random at times.

The unlock system is very similar to the one in Battlefield 3, but I feel with the introduction of battlepacks, it has become slightly worse. Also with the huge amount of unlocks available for every gun, it feels like it takes ages to unlock something you want.

When the game works, it feels good and is quite enjoyable, but that is not often. Most of the times the game won't even launch, but instead battlelog gets stuck at the joining server message blinking and the game isn't even starting. The game also crashes and disconnects a lot. I feel this is unacceptable since we paid for a fully working game, yet it feels like a beta/alpha version with a lot of bugs and crashes that still needs to be resolved.

The guns overall feels quite nice, but some weapons really behave weird and not at all like they did in the previous title. Overall the gameplay is quite different and you need to get used to the new guns and attachements before you can perform very well. Some guns are ridiculously underpowered and desperately needs some tweaking, but I haven't really found an overpowered weapon yet, which is nice.

If the game did not have so many issues, I would have rated it higher. However, it shows a lot of potential and can be rated higher in the future if they fix these problems. Therefore I feel that a 5 is a fair rating for this game. My advice is to wait before buying this game, since it's near unplayable for a lot of people. In a few months the developers have hopefully fixed a lot of issues. Also, expect to be paying for more than the actual game if you want to be able to enjoy this game for several years to come, because EA and Dice will try to force people in to buying Premium and Battlepacks. Personally, I am really against this kind of thing with DLC and premium features, I mean I already paid a ridiculously high amount for the game itself, why pay just as much again just so I can get a few more maps and weapons? We'll wait and see how much content premium actually offers, but unless I can find it at a huge discount, I will not buy it.

I rated this game as 6. I am a big BF series fan since BF2.

Sadly the formula Dice used in BF4 sucks. The flying the jets require no skills, the soldiers can be easily killed. spawn areas are messed up......etc what shall i say. the maps are small and its like playing 64 players on 32 or 48 players map.... console feeling. the only good thing is the graphics.

With the full range of DLC the game has a lot more variety and comes into its own.

The use of jets is still problematic and never really got well integrated into the game and hacking continues to be the greatest problem of the game.

However, a new feature addresses one of the most fundamental problems of the previous game. Hit detection and other issues often referred to as "the crap netcode". While not being a panacea this has certainly helped a lot. There is still a huge amount of hacking and sadly many servers seem to allow it. A more pro active server admin community could have helped to nip this early but generally speaking server admins seem to have been poor caretakers of BF4.

Cheats will always be one step ahead but if you can find a good server and find a way through the mess that is origin to buy the game (or simply get your codes elsewhere and redeem them). Then BF4 is now a mature title that is a must have for any fps fan. There really is nothing like the Frostbyte 2 Engine and even the new hardline doesn't use it nearly so well.

If it wasn't for the problematic Origin then this would be a 10 from me.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I originally reviewed favorably when this game came out. However, after a year before they finally fixed the bugs, that was a premature review. I really thought they would have been more diligent in the fixes. As well, since the Expansions are all forced on you and no permission for open modding was ever implemented, I have to revise my original review.
The expansions are more apt to lag and experience tech problems
Other Cons are Spawning Locations, Melee Takedowns/Counters, OP Armor/Air, Small squad sizes and limited commander functions/communications and most of all, the Game Modes. In Regular, their is no Friendly Fire, and in Hardcore, the game is unplayable on the expansive maps thanks to snipers being so OP. If you set a server to Custom to tailor the game to your liking, it becomes unplayable due to lag. If you have a Ranked server, you will not populate as fast as an Official server, but if you are an Official server you cannot Admin to maintain fair play or customize a map rotation. Unfortunately, none of these issues were ever addressed or fixed.

Currently the game has quite a few problems, and yeah the campaign is pretty plot-empty and boring, but the multi-player experience is as fun as ever.

The only problems I really have in multi-player are the many spots players can camp and how unbalanced the maps are for certain game levels (but not for Conquest).

The game play, imo, is the same as it ever was. I've been a fan of the BF franchise since BF1942 DEMO and having not played BF in 2 years (BFBC2 I never played 3) I was able to jump into BF4 and get straight to work with minimal drama.

    I hate:
Dependencies. There're too many nonsensical dependencies between me and the game. I click on the BF4 game icon in my start menu and the first thing that opens is Origin, then Firefox, then I get to using the server browser as it occurs on the website which takes a while before finally, The Game [datface.jpg]. Very wasteful and aggravating. What happens when the browser has a problem? No game. But I'm not trying to browse; I'm trying to play.

Immoderate capitalism. I paid about $100 for BF4 "Premium". I went online, chose a server and found myself in a queue. My position was 2 and beside that appeared "PREMIUM PRIORITIZED" or something to that effect which said to me that I'd been put ahead of someone else in line because I was "PREMIUM". This's a game, not a lesson in socioeconomics. I don't want to know that the server considers me a "preferred" player because I spent more money. Just put my arse in a queue and let's get it on already.

Instability! I can get in a good 7 minutes between CTD (crash[es] to desktop). It repeatedly crashes and on a couple of occasions I've fallen with bluescreens. I've been building my own PCs since 1997 and I've bluescreened about 4 times since 2002. Twice playing GTA3 (2002-video driver incompatibility) and twice over the past couple days wrestling with BF4 (BCCode: 1000007e). Not okay.

    Win 7x64 SP1, Xeon 1230 ver. 2 3.3GHz, 16GB, GTX 760

I know the game is till relatively new but I can't see this having been tested prior to release. QC was playing Bomberman 64 or something in the basement when they should've been testing. If I could play the game I'd have rendered of score of something like 8 or 9, I'm sure. In its present condition, however, this game is only worth a 6 7 at best.

The gameplay however feels like they've copied and pasted everything from BF3 into a semi different-ish scenario. however the major downfall for me has to be the fact I haven't actually been able to get any further than the third mission (I'll keep this as spoiler free as possible) while driving (sailing?) a boat back to an even bigger ship I was hit by a huge wave of bugs and glitches planes hovering doing nothing, gunfire coming from an invisible enemy ship, enemies disappearing in front of my eyes, at one point my ship randomly exploded for no apparent reason, the (useless) AI screaming at me to watch out for the helicopter that is supposedly coming for us, I saw no helicopter and a ship that is impossible to catch up with its almost as if when you think you're getting close the captain presses a boost button. Now don't get me wrong this game has got potential but I feel they have rushed to get the 360 version onto the market while focussing all their attention to the future Xbox One version of the game and on multiplayer. I haven't played any of the multiplayer aspects of BF4 just yet I was planning to finish the story before doing so but now I'm a little scared that I will be met with endless lag and bugs.
The final verdict is, this game has potential its got brilliant graphics and realistic war zones, but unfortunately lacks the polish it so rightly deserves. If I were you I wouldn't do what I did and waste £40 on a current gen copy and wait that little bit longer for next gen warfare.

Multiplayer is fun. For the most part. Seems like the game makers stuffed too much on the screen in places and added a few not-needed things that only seems to frustrate a lot of players.

I had hoped to jump right into this game like I did with BF3, but for some reason this game doesnt seem as fun. It's the single player aspect of the game that really ruins it.

The campaign is just awful. It's more of the same "America Good Guys, other countries Bad Guys" that we've seen in other games. I would have rather had a campaign that actually allowed us to play on both sides of the conflict to actually see that the soldiers fighting for their banners were as human as the rest. Needless to say, I think I bailed from the Campaign about three quarters of the way through, because I was getting rather sick of it. It is quite literally the first game who's campaign I never completed.

As I said, I would be giving it a better score if I never played BF3, but as it stands, the game just feels like a moderate upgrade over the previous Battlefield.

Granted my GPU memory is only 2Gb but I meet the recommended system requirements by far and my issues don't seem to be related to my hardware. I still get a lot of input lag and the frequent crashes wouldn't be quite so bad if they didn't make you lose all of the progress for that round. I spent 45 minutes playing a round trying to level my pistols and I got maybe 12 pistol kills which was enough to unlock more add-ons for that pistol as well as a new pistol. In literally the last minute of the game, it crashed and I lost all my progress. This happens about 1 in 3 games to 1 in 4 games and is very frustrating. My score will be based on all the technical problems that have not been addressed properly since the beta.

Single player hasn't grabbed me in any special way and so far its been almost pulling teeth to play it. I'd like to see them make missions that teach you how to use all of the classes and the vehicles instead of throwing a very derivative story at you. Put us through boot camp and teach us the strategy proper way to utilize the environment and items. I am glad that they included the test range where you are able to try out all of the vehicles and all of your unlocked weapons on some static and some moving targets. It is definitely a nice addition to those new to the series.

As far as the multiplayer goes, it's Battlefield and all the good and bad that people are familiar with are present. I was hoping that by now, people wouldn't be able to magically enter and exit their vehicle making it a little harder to take drivers and pilots out when they are standing next to a vehicle one second and magically appear inside the next. When you're trying to take out vehicles with jets or helicopters, it can be tiresome to do pass after pass while the drivers simply hop out in a half a second and repair their vehicle while you wait for your weapons to reload.

Things do feel a little better balanced than BF3 and they removed the horrible suppression feature that got out of hand in BF3. Well, it is actually there still but people are not as affected they were and the only time you get very suppressed is by LMGs.

The maps are my major gripe with the game. I just don't care about any of them. Usually there is at least one that is just great and everyone plays but none of the maps have that special something and in fact I very much dislike a few of the maps. I really enjoyed the maps in Battlefield 3, especially when they included the BF2 maps in DLC. If they don't offer some good new maps in DLC very soon, I can see the game getting old very quickly.

Overall it's fun and they've added somewhat enough that it doesn't just feel like Battlefield 3.5 even though at times it does. This series seems to be moving closer to the console market in every new iteration. You level much faster in this game than Battlefield 2 and maybe even Battlefield 3. I really hope they don't turn the series into Madden or COD with a new throw away game you play for a few months and wait for the next years game. If the game worked a little better and had less frustrating issues, I'd probably give it an 8. If this game doesn't release some good DLC soon, I can't imagine the game will have the staying power that Battlefield series has had in the past.

It seems like EA Dice has learned a few marketing Techniques from Infinity Wards Call of Duty series. This game is basically Battlefield 3 repackaged but worse... a least for now (Read why below)

Single Player: When the game came out Single Player and even Multiplayer were unplayable due to unforgivable optimization on the pc port. Now after a few days it has been fixed (to an extent) but still experiance Lag spikes from Video and internet (Battle log). The Single player experiance is no different from your average War shooter but it feels like Michael Bay had directed it. Too many explosions is sometimes a bad thing especially for an Average gamer PC. There isn't really any story to follow just a forgettible experiance we all played before.

Multiplayer: EA Dice claims that this is a new FrostBite Engine however there doesn't seem to be any noticable differences I guess another marketing technique. The UI for your loadouts have changed into four weapon sections one of them being unique to the class you choose. The game is unstable filled with Server Lag Rubberbanding and stutters. A more common issue is the constant crashing which they still have not fixed yet in this game. If multiplayer worked out smoothly I would give this game a point. One thing I noticed is that DICE has a thing for Tanks. Each map has an abundance of tanks leaving infantry warfare meaningless especially when Engineer can barely do any damage to any armored vehicle because Dice removed Weak points. One of my biggest concerns are the Map Design. This guy needs to be kicked off the team because these maps are tiny especially on a 64 man server with an abundance of armored vehicles besides that the maps are 60% water based maps... Really Dice? A nice addition is the Dynamic Maps that change the battlefield throughout the game and the return of Commander mode wich was popular in BF2 and 2142.

Im giving this game untill the next expansion and if it suprises me it would get a 8/10 but for now the six seems generous.

    Pros: Commander Mode Returns!
    Dynamic Environments
    64 player match ups
    Free expansion on pre-order
    New Obliteration Mode

    Cons: Forgetful Single Player
Really Poor Optimization (Worse then the Beta)
No in Game Server Browser (Just Web client)

So in a nut shell for campaign. It felt rushed and left me with the feeling that it was not really necessary.

Onto the multiplayer, at this point i should point out that i used to always favor the battlefield form of game from playing 1942 onwards as opposed to CoD. That being said i feel battlefield 4 as to be abit of a letdown, as i said earlier the game feels unfinished still quite buggy in places and not completely balanced and still resembles the beta. The main issue i find with this game is just that it feels abit samey, by that i mean there is no really additions to make me want to pick up and play it, at the moment i am playing simply because i bought it and no other reason.

If you can get past the cheesy voice acting and bad writing, there is a bit of fun to be had in the single player. Luckily the campaign is short and doesn't overstay it's welcome as an appetizer to the main course, which is the multiplayer. One knock against the single player is that you are required to play it to unlock some weapons for multiplayer use; a dumb feature as the majority of gamers will go straight into the MP without wanting to shoot bots 6-10 hours.

    Multiplayer: Welcome back to Battlefield
_Maps_: Borrowing heavily from BF3, BF4 offers the usual array of large maps. Where this game particularly excels is its water levels. The maps including boats are cleverly designed, allowing you to actually use the multiple types of watercraft for nautical domination rather than just as a means to cross. Some maps are a bit too small for my liking, which means you can't sit with a sniper rifle 500 yards back and practice headshots all day, but it also increases the ferocity of the action. In many maps the developers chose to build upwards instead of outwards, which leads to some interesting battles. Furthermore, they've re-introduced true destructibility of the environments, which is a huge plus because rather than rooting enemies out of a fortified building, you can simply blow the entire thing up.
_Game types_: All the usual types are present, TeamDM, SquadDM, Rush, Conquest. I particularly like the Obliteration game type where two teams fight for control of a single respawning bomb which must be taken to each of three enemy bases to win the game.
_Vehicles_: The usual array of vehicles. They've made flying helicopters much easier. The fighter jets spawn flying, so you don't need to worry about those tricky take-offs.
_Connectivity_: This is a big sticking point for some players, complaints of constant disconnections and server crashes. The rumors are true, but exaggerated and improving daily. I've been playing for two weeks and I've had no problems with latency, the game doesn't lag. I have however had issues where my game will crash on spawn or an entire server will crash randomly. In a 4 hour session you could expect 1-2 disconnections.
_Battle log_: BF4 uses the Battle log system to track stats outside of the game and I must say that they improved the BF3 system by leaps and bounds. A plethora of stats, easy to customize your character, easy to connect with other players. Game filtering, favorites, history, it's all there. Dice/EA posts on Battle log when they are having issues or are performing updates so you aren't left in the dark.

    Summary:
In conclusion, I give this game a 7/10.

    Pros:
    -Good graphics
    -Level destruction is back
-Great menu/stats system both in and out of the game
    -Sea battles!
-Enough unlockables to keep you going for 100+ hours

    Cons:
-Disconnections/crashes still happen more than I'd like
-Same old Battlefield nothing truly revolutionary
-Graphics stutter/tear a bit more than they should, but not enough to impact gameplay

In alot of ways its similar to BF3, but with more bugs and glitches that should have been dealt with in alpha or beta, but not after we pay $70.00 for it. At this time I don't recommend the game for multi-player, though the single player was polished that's not really why we get shooter games anymore is it?

EA and Dice dropped a steamy pile, something I would expect from Infinity Ward /Trearch and Activision.

The continuing failures of game designers is a plague brought on more recently by laziness and greed. How many patches were released for Super Mario Bros?

Because BF4 is a good looking game and brought some expanded version of its predecessors and a polished single player I will give it a 6/10. If, by some miracle they fix all the glaring issues within a reasonable time I would up it it to somewhere around an 8 or a 9 out of 10. Frankly I am sick of getting unfinished games and paying full retail for them.

On my ps3 system (don't begin to say the gameplay was intended for next-gen since there's something called "optimization" and if the PS3 system wasn't enough to deal with the game then it shouldn't be released for that console in the first place), it freezes on my "every" play and enough is enough. First of all, I can't really blame those who makes jokes about the game being in Beta. It is, even if possibly the one I'm playing today is Beta 3.0, and not the horrific pre-Alpha some of us bought on October 29th. The netcode is better than before (it doesn't take much do be better than trash, but it has improved; not reliable yet, but better), and some of the major bugs and, most importantly, the CRASHES, have been fixed, at least as far as I can say. Maybe I'm optimistic or just lucky, but I haven't experienced nothing special except, of course, some lag and a couple of minor reload bugs. The problem is: is Battlefield 4 worth playing now? Is Battlefield 4 worth NOT BEING ERADICATED from the planet just because it started to be less than God awful only around January? Let's make a pros-cons, it's easier for me and for you. Just one advice: i won't include in the cons the OBVIOUSLY KNOW BUGS, because that's already clear in my opinion. I will write pros and cons like if BF4 was a bug-free game, but these bugs will obviously weight in the score.

    PROS
-Most of the maps are very well designed
-It offers a truly astounding Battlefield experience WHEN IT WORKS, and BF fans know what i mean
-Graphics are gorgeous, nothing to say about that
-Sound, when it isn't bugged, it's really remarkable and realistic
-The perk system makes sense, encouraging people not to play like morons unless they like losing their perks for their squad being wiped out

    CONS
-The unlock system still sucks (i. e. assignments and gadgets progression criteria)
-Excessively vast arsenal has room for lots of pointless weapons and, of course, some OP guns
-The map design of Operation Locker can be found at the voice "How to NOT make a multiplayer map"
-The game has an excessive load on your system in certain situations, where 60 stable fps, even with a quite high-end PC, are all but reachable 1080p
-Questionable weapon balance (PDWs not universal, Carbine now universal, DMRs nerfed like and the same goes for most of the rocket launchers)
-Hit detection is one of the worst I've ever seen
-Map design is good for some game modes and bad as hell for others
-The whole game costs 60 50 Thanks, BF4 Premium, for being expensive. And for existing

I may not be an expert reviewer, and I sure as hell am not good enough to tell you or DICE how to actually make Battlefield 4 a game worth buying. The situation is better than two months ago, but can I tell that for me BF4 is better than its predecessor? Nope. And keep in account that I've played BF3 on the PS3, not exactly a wonderful porting. This is my opinion, as incoherent and senseless as you want, but sure as hell sincere. And 5 is my vote, same as before.

The nice thing about this game is that players now have the option of spectating games that allows them to observe suspicious players. People no longer have to wonder who is hacking... It actually shocked me that I have discovered servers that I performed extremely poor on had almost nothing but hackers with modified skins and movements uncharacteristic to normal play. They can also now be aware when they are being observed and they will literally sit still... which in the least part is a heck of a way to grief cheaters trying to hide their cheats.

They also added what I nearly forgot existed all the way back from Battlefield 2142 the Commander slot in battles. Commanders can be devastating for matches yet very few want to play the role as it is not exactly exciting when most people do not follow orders... but one can progress in rank quick from being a Commander. It sure does suck when your opposing team has an Commander and the other team doesn't; the Commander's team usually wins...

One thing I did not like in this game was the new vehicle set-up. Jets seemingly lose control when I start firing; they simply stall out in the air and I lose my positioning for a kill. Manipulating the throttle to increase turning speed has been significantly gimped; when the throttle over exerted the plane literally stops turning entirely as if it lost all of it's wind. They also put in several different types of Guns for the jet and it makes spotting cheaters damn near impossible when the 30 mm cannon naturally does too much damage. The Miniguns on the Transport Heli no longer harm Tanks; as if they really did any serious damage in BF3. They are now good for killing soldiers and eventually bringing down other flying vehicles.

All in All BF2 is still the best game. They do too much with this franchise and it has now become exclusively all about the money and it really irritates me that they have already created Battlefield Hardline.

This may be the official last Battlefield Game I ever buy... purely for the fact that they keep rebuilding the beast... if they want to go this far then they should just make it a P2P MMO.

When I look at it statistically, this game comes out at about $70 retail and then people wind up paying another $100 for all the: expansions, Weapon Kit Shortcuts and Premium status; the shortcut kits have been designed to be more useful in such a way because items are practically random now from the suitcase bundles...

They've already duped us into paying $15/month to play this game without them being held accountable for all of the Hackers running Injectable code cheats in this game.

Look at the release date, this game isn't even a year old yet and it's already being phased out by Battlefield Hardline; which is a whole new kind of garbage...

Talk about encouraging the existence of a Police State and Criminals with Guerrilla Military style weapons. It's just not right to advocate the killing of Police...ever...

I might buy it when it goes on sale and I can get all the maps the full game for 50 euros. I won't spend a single dime till the prices go down. Maps should be a free DLC and not paid. Companies should be punished for releasing an incomplete product not rewarded.

The game is enjoyable and probably the best arcade shooter out there but I can not give this game higher than a five because of the money grabbing scheme that EA/Dice is pulling off.

Crashing and serious issues with hit registration. Shame really, because it looks nice and is a lot of fun, that is, when it doesn't crash.

Hopefully future patches will fix the extensive problems, but unless you'd like to pay full price to be a beta tester, I would steer clear for now.

Nice graphics, pretty good gunplay and great maps. However, the game wasn't finished at release and still has lots of crashes, sound bugs and other problems one month after release. There are a lot of customizations which is great but the endless crashing only makes you frustrated. Commander is back, although it seems more like aerial support than "commanding".

Back when BF3 was released I rated it a 6 I believe. I went on to put in around 1400hrs into that game. It wasn't until they fixed *most* of the problems did I find enjoyment playing BF3. It took months to nearly a year before weapon balance (which still is kinda a joke but not so much so as it used to be) was fixed, crashes were resolved (game hasn't crashed in over a year for me), and other bugs, i.e. underslung dart bug, were resolved. These fixes saved BF3 in my opinion but I can only speak as an infantry player. I don't know about balance in regards to vehicles (though I've heard the tanks were nerfed). What also kept me playing BF3, and still does, was the "feel" of the game. I liked the fluidity of the game, the gun mechanics, etc.
What I liked about BF3 is absent in BF4. The game feels stiff. The gun mechanics dumbed down. Seriously, just looking at my stats, my avg accuracy is much higher in BF4 than in BF3. It wasn't terrible in BF3, avg was 19% but in BF4 its nearly 22%. Why? Because weapon recoil is so easy to control you can snipe people with ARs. Weapons also feel like toy guns rather than the beasts from BF3. My second gripe comes from the perk system. Holy jesus what were they thinking. In BF3 each person in a squad could select a perk that gave all people in the squad said perk. Ideally, you'd want to get in a squad with people who ran different perks. This worked out most of time because you could just jump to a squad or change your own. When people didn't bother to change theirs you could kick them from squad if you were the squad leader or just jump to another squad in hopes of being able to get better perks. In other words, you had more control over your perks. In BF4 you know have to rely on pubbies to actually play as a squad to get your perks through a progression bar but if you've every played BF4 with random pubbies you know that most BF players have downs. They will not do anything squad oriented and thus you are out of luck if you wish to play with perks. Not only is this frustrating but instead of picking your perk now you have to pick a pre-defined perk tree. Want cover and sprint? Ha, not going to happen. Want cover, ammo, sprint? (the essentials) Not going to happen. In BF3 my k/d was over 3. In BF4 my k/d is just under 2. Why? Because in BF3 spawns were eventually fixed and you didnt have people spawning directly behind you on flags. In domination mode in BF4 people will spawn directly behind you. For example, let's say your team has two of the three flags. Where oh where will the enemy team spawn? You'd think at or behind their flag right? Nah, on one of your flags, and most likely behind the line that you and your team has created to defend it. Completely unforgivable design problem that should have been addressed long ago. I could go on about the shortcomings of this game and I could go into all the crashes (server/client side), the joining server bugs (black screen that eventually just disconnects you but won't let you terminate the process) or any of the other bugs I'm too lazy to go into. This game will be "ok" in a few months once they fix problems but as a whole the new mechanics are really what bring the game down. Certain things weren't perfect in BF3 (perks for example) but now they went ahead and made it even more broken. I bought this game on release (didnt preorder) with hesitation and I should have probably not bought it till it dropped in price. Now I almost feel forced to play it so I can at least get something for my money. Big disappointment.

Although the PC launch has been a bit “rocky” with servers going down and experiencing some hard lockups locally during multiplayer, I do enjoy ground pounding and the “defuse” mode. I have somewhat enjoyed the very very linear campaign for “what it is” on hard mode. The AI is nothing to be proud of but the ocean swells are a nice feature. To “me”, nothing is more than a slight graphics mod over BF3 at this point. I like it, but not thrilled about it. [GS] 7/10 Expand

Multiplayer is great, rushed release though.
SIngleplayer is screwed from the FOV that you cannot change. FOV only affects the MP, so if you bought this game for SP and fear LOW FOVs, you should return it before opening it.

Nothing to add to its glory. But it is unacceptable that client constantly hangs up. It is a good game and after few patches it will be one of the best shooters ever. Otherwise it adds almost nothing to BF3. Just polished (but constantly crashing) BF3.

Singleplayer mode is god-awful. From the countless bugs and glitches produced in the rushed, last minute campaign, to the dumb AI, frustrating mechanics and dreadful plot. Not to mention YOU CAN'T CHANGE THE FOV IN THE CAMPAIGN IT'S SET TO 55!! Negatives (mostly) aside, the multiplayer portion of the game is excellent. Fast paced gameplay in 64-player 'Rush', to the huge scale battles of 'Conquest Large', and team play in 'Squad Deathmatch', plus some all new gamemodes most of which were definitely not ripped off of Call of Duty... *ahem*. The multiplayer, in all seriousness, does provide a satisfying experience all in all; the new destructive play brought through 'Levolution' and many unlockables to be... well, unlocked.

Multiplayer does have it's fair share of bugs, however: servers breaking half way through a game and kicking everyone off, long load times, and graphical glitches hopefully all to soon be ironed out by DICE.

Overall, Battlefield 4 is a fun, exciting experience, let down by the single player story mode, and the countless bugs users have encountered throughout the game. EA clearly pressured DICE to release BF4 early for next gen console support, meaning many huge bugs were left in the game. The main point is what could DICE have done with the incredible multiplayer if they didn't have to produce the single-player. Maybe added more maps, weapons, vehicles, removed bugs, polished the experience... And with a hefty price tag £55 on Origin for the Standard Edition (why would you pay that?), the game does not appear ready for it's full release yet.

Stunning visuals, good gameplay. I enjoyed the single player campaign; finished it in 9 hours. My usual regret is that I don't play multiplayer yet I must buy the complete pack, which even with the year-ends 30% off was a bit overpriced. I played BF3 some time ago so I can't really compare them, but I'm sure the series best single player experience so far was BF2 Bad Company. AnotherStunning visuals, good gameplay. If you want to play it for the singleplayer wait for a hefty price drop. Expand

This is a very good game, just don't bother with any of the expansions/dlcs which no one plays 1-2 months after release. If you only want to play Conquest mode on the stock maps then go ahead and get this game, though 1-2 years from now (fall 2014) you will only be able to find a dozen servers running.

    - Squad VOIP
    - Better spotting system than BF3

    - Wall peeking and performance is actually better than BF3 for me at least using nvidia 670 fx 8350 )
    - Balanced weapons people will debate this )
    - No one really communicates with each other

    Cons:

    - Requires Battlelog
    - Requires Origin
    - Crashes somewhat frequently (2 out of 10 games for me)
    - Very unbalanced vehicles
    - Tiny aim dot for jets
    - Many invisible wall collisions
    - Hit detection that was worse than BF3s but occurs less often
    - Objects have bad collisions sometimes invisible walls intercept your shot trajectory )
    - Enemy squadmates spawn on allies while you are killing them meaning they can easily kill you as you will have spent most of your clip on the first guy.

Conclusion: For most of you this will put it simply enough. I got Premium for BF3 and didn't feel like a cent was wasted but I will not be getting Premium for BF4 at all.

It's really a good game. Though the bumps it had in the beginning was what made it drop a score. Also for not really bringing in anything as new. Commander and boats are very cool. The spawn kill gets annoying when you try to re spawn on a team mate, but it's something to get use to and not spawn where there's danger. I still hate how someone can survive with 1 health, why not bleed them out and make medics more useful. I love the voice in game option now though, always never understood how the console could have it in already, and not on pc when it was bf3. Oh, but I felt disappointed in the campaign, it was short, didn't really connect and semi predictable. Amazing graphics though. I could go on and on with the good and bad, but it's still very good, just don't expect too much, I only got bf4 since it was $20 for me. I still very hate EA with their premium bullsh!t. Won't get it until it's on sale too. Expand

Battlefield 4 could just as well be called Battlefield 3.5. The new Battlefield features are only marginal improvements over Battlefield 3, but even as such it leaves the competitors way behind. Hopefully the bugs will be squashed soon. [Nov 2013]

Even if multiplayer wasn't buggy, Battlefield 4 would still only be a barely passable installment in all respects besides the snazzy graphics. EA and DICE played it safe by providing the same thing they did the last time around, with another phoned-in campaign and only minor alterations to the online.

Battlefield 4 keeps soldiering on in the same footsteps as previous games in the series. The lack of worthwhile news makes you wish for more. Dice stays in its comfort zone calls for explosions and not much more. The series needs to evolve or fade out.
