The game simply does not work. The vast majority of games that I play I cannot finish because of CRASHES. Even if the game didn't CRASH it would still be mediocre due to the bugs and glitches.
DO NOT BUY THIS GAME, IT DOES NOT WORK.

As Chinese player, some of us have to use an monthly-paid internet connection booster to play the game. Otherwise the game will lose connection while in Loading Level stage.

    Anyway, the game is great.

The negative reviews here are the reason that you can never trust a hyped games score on metacritic this game is much much better that a 6.2...
Everyone worried about 1st day glitches and server issues (that are arguably much better than any other mass multi game out there)

Overall, this is the best current MP shooter game available I don't care if you have a hard-on for COD or CS1.6 this has the best mix for customisability/graphics/environment and realism (aside from ARMA) available.
Whilst I don't think this game's initial maps were as good as BF3 (except Paracel Storm) I think the variation within each level is amazing i.e. you can have close quarter fighting in a map with vehicles this brings a whole new dynamic to the game that we didn't have in BF3
I think, like BF3 (and remember enthusiasts, BF3 wasn't without a massive amount of issues too) BF4 will improve as the title goes on for the next 2 years e.g. the Sniper class NEEDS to be nerfed it is far to COD like (to note, this is a negative) and too easy to master

Overall I mark this down for the required tweaks, but am not emotional enough to let it ruin an otherwise perfect game!

I have always liked the Battlefield franchise. It has always offered fun and enjoyable gameplay. Recently, I have grown tired of these modern-military shooters. They overcrowd the market. I love the new multiplayer! It's the second Battlefield that I play and it's just awesome! Some say, the destruction of buildings is just eyecandy but I disagree. You can use destroyed buildings as protection and the "Levolution" thingy forces the people to change their strategy in mid-game.

Bf4, the new franchise will be a dream to many new comers, an elegant adaption to BF2 user base, and potentially new to bf3 users except for some map modes.

    Levolution works and works well

The wrong for gamers and bf3 users going bf4 is simple:
    1) Bf4 is not a visual stunt and realism compared to bf3 in ultra max settings.
    2) Some maps in Bf4 are empty! you look at Parcels, you look at Shangai. They are empty, sure you have effects like flying paper all around or you can swim under water weewwwwww, cool heh? yet nothing compared to realism of BF3. I do not blame Dice for their choice but console manufacturers to force developers to get to their best with crunched down ultra minimal hardware possible.
3)Yes the game is really expensive, what you call premium is just BF4 with all expansion attached and ready to download when each of these expansion will be available. yet or +$100 compared to 1 year, 1 year and half and bf4 premium drops at 40$ altogether because well gamers are going other horizons and also Dice may want to "annualize" their franchise then what of this 100 dollars worth? just the right to be called premium since beginning with or without all expansions out already.

    Now the good:
    1) The engine seems and appear to diffuse scatter light a bit better in SOME situations compared to bf3 such as the locker room when you go in/out of the indoor tunnel and you get somewhat blinded and everything become contrasty. The engine needs a tweak for that whereas when you stop in the middle if this light diffuse and scattering then the changes stops where they are at and sometime remain as long as you stay on spot instead of diminishing as human eye adapt to light change after a short period of time. Sometime it works well, sometime it does not but those are fixes that will come along the way and it will be something plush and plus to the gameplay and game.
    2) Physx works well if not better than bf3
3)Introduction of hide behind a box and pop to shoot. It is not perfect but fixes will come along.

    Conclusion:
It could have been great and limited itself. Overall a good game but not worth +100$

The game modes are really cool and so are the graphics and the gameplay, but to be honest, its hardly possible to finish one round without stumbling into an bug.

In addition to the bug nightmare I am also not very happy how the game design treats casual gamers: it says you' to them. Through leveling you get one weapon after the other in a specific order. But I don't want to judge them for only behaviour, because this behaviour is/was common behaviour, its the way how they implemented it: You are leveling so slow that its not possible to see the light in the end of the tunnel....

Bugs can be fixed and my critics to the game design can be fixed too. I hope they can achieve to fix at least the bugs any time soon.

I am extremely upset that I not only bought this garbage but preordered base game and premium. DO NOT BUY! They game is still in a beta state nearly a month after coming out! Instead of a shinned up turd like say COD what you get here is a turd smothered golden nugget. Underneath all of the terrible problems and CRASHING there seems to be a good game. That said this is NOT a good game. This game might be good one day after their 50th server patch (they are already on their 10th as of a week before this review). They have taken this game from alpha like state when it launched to a beta like state that it currently is. The worse part is the improvement is sporadic. They one week make it better then the next it is worse just to have to be patched again! MAPS: How a big game like this launched with multiple broken maps is beyond me. Maps will have levelution events that crash the game everytime, and some maps have "corrupted sound files" (that's DICE's explanation) that will leave you playing every game on that map with NO SOUND for about 85% of the game. Some maps even have big issues like spawn points not working for no apparent reason leaving you to spawn elsewhere and run 5 minutes to get back to the action. CRAZY! No one of the worst offenders is the netcode. It is so bad that people report objects exploding when the RPG that hits it is only half way their on your screen! Good luck dodging locked on rockets when the warning lockon starting sound only happens after it hits you! Want to snipe? Good luck. That new bullet smoke trail for others to see is on your screen as well for no apparent reason other then to make sure you can't see where your own bullets are going. Overcame all that and had a good match? Too bad you crashed near the end and get NOTHING. All your stats from that match are wiped, unlocks relocked, exp taken back, ect. To top all that off they will lower your "skill" level by near 30 freaking points. Tried to join a game they automatically put you in but they also filled it before connecting you? They kick you, tell you its full now, then take away skill points because you "quit". This game is so anti competitive that it amazes me. BF4 will NEVER be a competitive shooter that people care about because of netcode, and stat wiping, and just the general problems that plague it. I LOVE the Bad Company games but this will be the last EA game that I ever buy. Simscity, BF4, Rivals, ect. They keep releasing these terrible not working games and expect more and more money for them. Expand

Multiplayer on the other hand has a lot of potential but players are brutally punished by a rushed release of the game. It's been over 3 weeks since the release and a bunch of patches has been released. Unfortunatelly they only fixed a few of the problems. The biggest ones still persist:
    - optimalization issues on many different PC setups
    - game freezing
    - long map loading times (unless you have SSD)
    - poor netcode
    - random game crashes

On top of that we have poor class/vehicle/weapon balance and most of the maps are way too small. Anyone who tried playing Zavod with 64 players will know what I mean.

Battlefield 4 can become a great game... someday. Right now it needs A LOT of patching and minor fixes instead of rushing with DLCs.

Game is not worth the money yet.

So with all that being said those are the only two reasons why I gave this game a 7 vs 10. There is a ton of fun to be had here and i have thoroughly enjoyed mowing down my enemies in MP. With the new customization options soldier classes are the most diverse they ever have been. The game is beautiful as well and level design is unique and fun. but it does fall short of some of the BF3 maps like metro, and seine. With that being Said DICE has a long track record of providing map packs for its games, and soon the most popular Bf3 maps will be brought to this game on the new frostbite 3 engine.

Don't listen to all the whiners this is a good game and while it may need some patch work to make it great. it's def worth picking up and spending countless of criminal hours mowing down everyone in your path

The guns feel realistic, the hit detection on enemies is improved. Unlimited sprinting, and sprinting while reloading. All types of vehicles which are fun to control and play a great part in the campaign. The campaign has more action, and better scripted events than the previous BF. The multiplayer consists of huge player battles, and the maps seem a lot better than Battlefield 3. This is one of the perfect FPS's on the market. Compared to COD, this is more of a realistic shooter rather than an arcade shooter. The single player was just way too short even on the hardest difficulty, but BF games are known for their multiplayer experience. 9.5.

Story: The game plays out like a scripted hollywood movie, and while I did enjoy the story's progression, it quickly falls short and dull, and the choice at the end is just ridiculous. We all wanted to go in ourselves. With that said, the emotions that they try to put in this game are just looked passed, and not given much thought. The characters seem interesting but the short campaign doesn't allow enough time to feel familiar with these characters which also makes the endings decision not much of an impact. 7.

Replay Value: Short campaign, but endless multiplayer. Co-op is no longer apart of the package, I would still recommend this game for people who enjoy endless unscripted multiplayer battles. 8.5.

Overall Score: 9 out of 10..

While it is a reasonable game, it has a lot of issues which DICE could have prevented with proper testing (and probably would have fixed if EA hadn't forced the release date).
The single player campaign is bland and predictable. Multiplayer is fun but very unstable (client and server crashes still happen regularly).

If you can get past the cheesy voice acting and bad writing, there is a bit of fun to be had in the single player. Luckily the campaign is short and doesn't overstay it's welcome as an appetizer to the main course, which is the multiplayer. One knock against the single player is that you are required to play it to unlock some weapons for multiplayer use; a dumb feature as the majority of gamers will go straight into the MP without wanting to shoot bots 6-10 hours.

    Multiplayer: Welcome back to Battlefield
_Maps_: Borrowing heavily from BF3, BF4 offers the usual array of large maps. Where this game particularly excels is its water levels. The maps including boats are cleverly designed, allowing you to actually use the multiple types of watercraft for nautical domination rather than just as a means to cross. Some maps are a bit too small for my liking, which means you can't sit with a sniper rifle 500 yards back and practice headshots all day, but it also increases the ferocity of the action. In many maps the developers chose to build upwards instead of outwards, which leads to some interesting battles. Furthermore, they've re-introduced true destructibility of the environments, which is a huge plus because rather than rooting enemies out of a fortified building, you can simply blow the entire thing up.
_Game types_: All the usual types are present, TeamDM, SquadDM, Rush, Conquest. I particularly like the Obliteration game type where two teams fight for control of a single respawning bomb which must be taken to each of three enemy bases to win the game.
_Vehicles_: The usual array of vehicles. They've made flying helicopters much easier. The fighter jets spawn flying, so you don't need to worry about those tricky take-offs.
_Connectivity_: This is a big sticking point for some players, complaints of constant disconnections and server crashes. The rumors are true, but exaggerated and improving daily. I've been playing for two weeks and I've had no problems with latency, the game doesn't lag. I have however had issues where my game will crash on spawn or an entire server will crash randomly. In a 4 hour session you could expect 1-2 disconnections.
_Battle log_: BF4 uses the Battle log system to track stats outside of the game and I must say that they improved the BF3 system by leaps and bounds. A plethora of stats, easy to customize your character, easy to connect with other players. Game filtering, favorites, history, it's all there. Dice/EA posts on Battle log when they are having issues or are performing updates so you aren't left in the dark.

    Summary:
In conclusion, I give this game a 7/10.

    Pros:
    -Good graphics
    -Level destruction is back
-Great menu/stats system both in and out of the game
    -Sea battles!
-Enough unlockables to keep you going for 100+ hours

    Cons:
-Disconnections/crashes still happen more than I'd like
-Same old Battlefield nothing truly revolutionary
-Graphics stutter/tear a bit more than they should, but not enough to impact gameplay

In alot of ways its similar to BF3, but with more bugs and glitches that should have been dealt with in alpha or beta, but not after we pay $70.00 for it. At this time I don't recommend the game for multi-player, though the single player was polished that's not really why we get shooter games anymore is it?

EA and Dice dropped a steamy pile, something I would expect from Infinity Ward /Trearch and Activision.

The continuing failures of game designers is a plague brought on more recently by laziness and greed. How many patches were released for Super Mario Bros?

Because BF4 is a good looking game and brought some expanded version of its predecessors and a polished single player I will give it a 6/10. If, by some miracle they fix all the glaring issues within a reasonable time I would up it it to somewhere around an 8 or a 9 out of 10. Frankly I am sick of getting unfinished games and paying full retail for them.

The only complaint this year for BF is the game feels buggier than the BF3 launch and I'm still getting a lot of lag even on sub 20 ping servers. The maps seem smaller than BFBC2 and BF3. When compared to the other games in the series, unlocking weapons in BF4 is a tedious chore for the average gamer. Unless you have an outrageous k/d ratio (higher than 2.0 at least) you can forget about unlocking any of the better weapons for a very long time.

Helmets have been removed too from character models giving the game an unwanted "Hollywood" effect. Who goes into battle without a helmet?

I would certainly recommend this game after all issues are resolved, but until then it's not worth the money EA is asking for it.

This game would likely look better and run better if it was not produced for consoles as well. I can't complain too much though, as my dual GTX Titans and i7 3930K @4.4GHz has no problem producing over 100FPS on Ultra settings @2560x1440. Expand

Well you're wrong, while I may not be the most die hard Battlefield fan I've been playing since bad company one all the way through and you know what? On launch there was never any problems of on the same level that are in BF4.

This is why I'm giving it such a terrible review, because while the gameplay may be amazing as we were promised, you'll never get to experience it with all the crashes, and it isn't just me experiencing this, around the world people haven't been able to play the buggy mess that is BF4. So if you want my advice, go out and buy BF3 premium, you'll get your money's worth, because it's been several weeks and EA isn't looking like patching the game anytime soon...

The gameplay itself is very well designed. But the coding is atrocious. I have had non-stop crashes and stutter running on a computer with an i7 processor and a GTX 760 graphics, and a download speed of 70 megabits.

It's unbelievable that such an expensive and expansive game would be programmed so poorly.

There isn't any reason that I've found yet to give this game a negative score, however I do think that the whole "Levolution" thing is a huge gimmick. The only maps that really have any Levolution are Siege of Shanghai, Flood Zone, and Paracel Storm. Those are the only maps where once the Levolution occurs, the maps are significantly different. And even then, it's still pretty gimmicky.

I had a long comprehensive review all typed out, then like an idiot I closed my browser by mistake, so this time around it's going to be dirty.

I swear that most of the people leaving zeros don't even have the game...

Most game crashes and freezes are more related to the end-users system than the game client. Most people have either solved their crashes, or have greatly reduced them, and many more (such as myself) play with no problems. If all the claims of the client being an unstable pile of garbage were to be taken at face value, then everyone should be having the same problems and no one should be playing, but that's simply not the case. So please, don't blame the game when you don't know the problem.

Now, there are legit issues, especailly server crashes. However DICE has been addressing these and they have got a lot better. People keep saying there have been no patches, where have they been? Yes there have been patches, both client and server, if you have not seen any patches then you need to update your client.

Riddled with bugs, I see that thrown around a lot. Bugs exist in every game, period. A game like BF4 is probably one of the most complex games ever created, no other game can match it's level of complexity in every aspect, in a few yes, but not all. The price for living on the edge of technology, advancement, and pushing them to their limits is going to be bugs, glitches, and other problems. While there are bugs in BF4, most have little effect on gameplay, with the exception of one beast. Hit detection, however this has been an issue for a long time, since BC2 and BF3, so the chances of this one going away anytime soon are remote.

So why do I give it a 10 out of 10? Because the very thing I love about BF and hate about CoD is the fact that the game is always changing, always evolving, and while there is a price to be paid for this, I for one am willing to pay it.

I find the gameplay, available tactics, and the fact that I have to adapt to some of these new rules refreshing. Sometimes it can be frustrating, but once you figure it out, it's a fantastic feeling. I devoted 374h 8m to BF3, 67h 5m in BF4 so far, and about 80 hours in the BF4 beta. I can honestly say that BF4 is not BF3, and that I thoroughly enjoy this fact. If I wanted to plat the same game over and over, I have CoD for this.

While there are aspects of the game I think could use some tweaking and polishing, such as hit detection, the kill cam, some of the weapon and damage mechanics, and a few other things, overall I love every minute I get to play the game. I have adapted to the new Battlefiled and am starting to take advantage of that knowledge.

The point I want to make is that people need to be more objective in their reviews. Know what you're talking about before writing one or giving the game a rating. Don't blame the game for problems that are just as likely to be on your end, than the client itself. Most of these zeros are left in spite and hate, and are far from objective. They do not paint a fair picture of the game.

    Game on!
