Anyone who reviews this Battlefield game for its Single Player,is either a moron,or is someone who doesn't know anything about the Battlefield series.DICE shouldn't have put a SP mode, only then people wouldn't have anything to complain/crictisize about in BF3.Multiplayer is amazing as anyone would expect, graphics are one of the best I have ever seen on PC.This game totally deserves a 10.

I have also put in about 18 hrs into the multiplayer which is where the game really shines. The unlocks are plentiful and spread out enough that you feel you really accomplished unlocking them while not putting so far out of reach. On top of this DICE and EA reward those who pre-order by offering free DLC as it becomes available. This is compared to the COD series which tends to offer more DLC... but at a $15 price tag for content that is undeveloped. So overall if you want to put some money into a game this fall... The single player is not bad, it's just not groundbreaking... but it's really just a warm-up to the main event. I get great performance with my single GTX 460, no stuttering, and I have 0 lag with no disconnects so far after 8 hours of multiplayer play. If you're experiencing lag then the problem is your connection. Only thing I hate so far is the complete lack of teamwork I've experienced so far while playing online... c'mon people, stop picking the sniper kit and sitting out of site of all the flags, or at least put down your radio beacon some where useful and make some type of positive impact on the actual battle. If you're experiencing technical difficulties, it's not the game, it's your rig and your background processes. Playing with a fresh hard drive and a fresh install of windows, I've had 0 problems with the game, beta included. Can't say the same about trying to play off my other, everyday Windows install. My advice: don't play your games off the same hard drive/partition that you use for porn. Expand

Another great detail that I thought was cool was the glare given off from a sniper scope in the bush, allowing me to counter snipe him just in time (this was in MP (Multiplayer) mode). I thought the Facebook style main page was great way to manage, contacting your friends and checking your stats against your mates (i think in mw3 you have to pay for this added feature).I don't know if this game will dominate MW3 but I have made up my mind just to buy this game alone. Perhaps maybe when Steam has a big ole sale and slashes the price down by half, then I'll purchase MW3 just to finish SP mode (Single player) and have a crack at the MP mode because one thing that I'll miss is the SND mode (Search and Destroy). But driving a tank with your buddy and crushing your enemies with it, so much fun! I also like the squad base mechanics of the game. You work as a team and you will be ranking up and unlocking all those fantastic goodies in no time (game play tips: http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/battlefield-3/1210757p1.html ) . The SP mode has some great action pace sequences and some great memorable moments where you are left saying WOW! In the MP mode the load times take a bit longer to get into the game but all good things come to those who wait (maybe i need to upgrade my pc). I have noticed at times there are sound effects that are missing from both the SP and MP mode but its nothing major that a patch wouldn't fix. Now I played about 815 hours on MW2 since its release back in Nov '09 (most time ever spent on a FPS game) and if i beat that benchmark in less time, then I sure made a good decision going with BF3. No doubt MW3 will be a great game as well but if you have limited time (or budget) to play 1 game, then let it be BF3. Expand

This is Battlefield at it's best! When im in battle, it's actually feels like a "Battlefield". The Sounds gives me goosebumps, they are probably some of the best sound effects i have ever come across. The graphic's are so impressiv if you think on how every level/map is, with 64 player's going totally insane. There are so many ways of having fun! So many options to kill your enemy and the frostegine 2 just make's this a blast. The realism, the effects, the destruction, the sounds are executed to perfection.

MW3 has nothing compared to this game. I have always praised realism ( Red Orchestra 2), but what Battlefield is good at is combining the realism with the typical-fps-shooter-genre, you can do impossible stuff and at the same time make it looks possible. But you can't go on a total rampage as in the call of duty series, where it pays of just going freaking crazy and then send in a nuclear blast in the end ( Wtf call of duty?). There are every single modern military veichle you could wise for in this game, how can you complain about that!? (Some of my friends do that --> MW2 players). When MW2 came out, i played the singleplayer, i played the multiplayer, I thought to myself," haven´t i played this game before?" (MW1) I played BBC 2 singleplayer, multiplayer, I Thought, "damm this is awesome!" (Not the Singleplayer). This is the same thing. Im not gonna buy MW3, because Activation is so greedy and lazy, that they just shoot out another MW1+2 clone. Battlefield 3 rocks my brain, and just in spite of the low ratings, im gonna give it a 10, where i actually would give it a 9. Good work Dice, keep fighting the good fight!

Buy it! And if you dont like it, you probably a Call Of Duty fan, who just realised how much Activation have screwed you, for so many years.

After I got my code activated (something i'm not happy about (they don't allow free multiplayer basically i could be wrong though)). I jumped into a multiplayer game and the first thing I did was jump into a jet and it was fantastic! I got into a dogfight with another guy and got my first kill. I really missed planes in battlefield. Ok, back to what I was talking about, when i finally got on the ground I moved the controller around and noticed the gun movement and overall movement was much more fluid then the beta. I found a couple people and killed them, the guns felt great and the hit markers worked better then in the beta. I jumped into a tank and took out a couple people till I was disabled and eventually killed by a couple bad guys. The graphics are excellent, the guns look great, you look and the sun and the sun glare is very realistic and there is glare off of pieces of the environment. Now, the graphics are obviously not as good as PC but if you play this for PS3 or XBOX 360, you will not be disappointed. This game truly deserves game of the year. But all the awards wanted to talk about this year was overrated s h i t t y ass Skyrim. I own over 350 games and out of every game I've ever played, Battlefield 3 is literally the best game I've ever played in my life. If you consider yourself a real gamer, this is a game you must have. If not, you're not really a gamer.

Its greatest strengths are in its subtleties, something which many COD fanboys are sure to overlook. Subtleties like AI character expressions, overall accuracy in depicting how things are done in the military (Like the launch sequence in the jet mission "Going Hunting"), the sound realism, and much much more. Of course, the bugs/glitches that pop up throughout the story, along with an overy scripted gameplay and short, cliche story line are all certain to factor as detractors to an otherwise flawless new battlefield addition. However, if you're like me, a battlefield purist at heart, you consider the campaign to be nothing more than an added bonus to an otherwise complete and absolutely incredible multiplayer game that is sure to take up hundreds of hours of your time, and is likely to go down as one of the most groundbreaking games in video game history. (Note: I give this a 10 because frankly, a lot of people are giving this game a zero simply because of the single player experience, and I'm struggling to believe they aren't just trolling.) Expand

This game is simply amazing. Nice graphics, great sound, game-play is very entertaining. The mix of infantry and vehicles, the destruction engine, the squad system and the infantry classes create a nice gaming atmosphere. I can only thank DICE for making this game.

Trolls are retarded. This game rocks. Graphics are the best I've ever seen on a PC game. DICE managed to make Battlefield 3 feel fresh and it doesn't feel like a Bad Company 3 at all. The sound is also the best you can get out there.

Much better than CoD... and I LOVE CoD. The graphics are great and so is the multiplayer. Despite a meager campaign, it is much more simple and doesnt have massive, gaping holes like in some CoD games, and doesn't get repetitive.

Battlefield 3's name implies that it has something to do with Battlefield 2. Besides the general "There are guns, tanks, planes, cars, helicopters, epic scale maps and you shoot people." It doesn't. I have played many hours on both Battlefield 2 and 2142, and Battlefield 3 is anything but a sequel. I was severely disappointed when Battlefield 3's Operation Metro beta came out. It was aBattlefield 3's name implies that it has something to do with Battlefield 2. It was a small map, infantry only and people would run and gun constantly. Not only did it seem nothing like Battlefield 2, It looked as if COD had rubbed off all over my favorite multiplayer series and ruined it. Then I played it.

Elements of COD are in plain sight, it is obviously not Battlefield 2, but it is undoubtedly the best shooter of the year. The tactical gameplay is preserved from Battlefield 2 and 2142. Even though running and gunning is a viable tactic, you still must be cautious, and have your squad to back you up. Vehicular battles are no let-down either, tanks and APCs own the roads, with frequent engagements with enemy armor, presenting high priority targets for AT and aircraft.

The customization for weapons, vehicles and soldiers is unparalleled, want a x8 scope on your assault rifle? No problem, go ahead and put a tactical flashlight on your sniper rifle as well (Why would you do that though?). Specializations grant your soldiers improvements in things like sprinting and suppression fire. For the first time, vehicles get specialized traits as well.

With the new Frostbite 2 engine, Battlefield 3 can look amazing, in addition to preforming amazingly. The graphics are insanely realistic, making combatants stop everything in the middle of a battle to watch in awe as large pieces of a building crash down to the ground. The environments so life-like you can imagine cars driving down the street and people going about their lives (before you and the other 63 players got there that is). The thing that makes Battlefield 3 stand out the most though, is that it takes the good from previous games (and rival games) and removes the bad. Examples of this would be destructible environments, weapons doing more damage, and limits to power on some vehicles (planes, for one, are not the armor hunting invincible juggernauts of BF2). Some people might argue about what was "the bad" and what was "the good", but you cant please everyone, no matter how good of a game you make.

Having never played the single player campaign in either of the Bad Company games, I was extremely pleased with Battlefield 3 adding a campaign mode. After selecting the hardest mode I could, I set out across a story that was both interesting and thrilling. The AI was nothing special, but it was good enough to kill me many, many times. The campaign mode takes you through many infantry engagements, some stealthy, some out in an open field with fire raining down on all sides. You get to control a tank in one section, blasting away at infantry and leaving only burning piles of scrap behind when you encounter enemy armor (my favorite part). The one part I had a bit of a disappointment, was the air section. You take the gunner position of a plane, but do not get to fly. The entire level consisted of holding your cross-hairs over enemy planes, and deploying countermeasures. In all, the campaign was no Crisis, but it was enjoyable.

The one issue I have with Battlefield 3 is Origin. Origin the steam wannabe, and Origin with the shady EULA. Some people have lowered their score for Battlefield 3 considerably due to Origin, but, this is not a review for Origin, is it?. *cough*1/10*cough*.

With that, I give Battlefield 3 a next to perfect 9.8/10.

MULTIPLAYER REVIEW ONLY (from a real FPS player, old school CS 1.6 and BF1943)

Sum it up? This game is amazing.

Why? It feels FRESH, as in it doesn't feel like COD or BC2 or any other previous game before it. I'm just going to sum everything up in bullets below so it answers most of your questions.

    - Graphics: Amazing, just amazing. You don't need 2 x GTX 580's to run it! I run it on Ultra with 2 x GTX 560's and that even feels like overkill. (sorry I don't have ATI to tell you what's good)

    - Sound: The sound alone in this game adds so much to the experience, adds a layer of tension and excitement you've never felt before.

    - Recoil: great recoil, kills/deaths are very satisfying, just the right balance so you don't have idiots running around (COD) spraying everywhere getting kills, AND it doesn't need to be on hardcore mode to feel just right.

    - Maps: The only reason people are mentioning BF3 multiplayer wanting to be like COD (that makes any sense to me) is some maps are smaller than the usual ARENAS we are used to. So basically they wanted to cater to a larger audience (COD players) who don't ALWAYS want to play in very large maps. Even with 64 players, maps like Caspian Border can have moments where you are just looking for someone to shoot for a few minutes, which isn't bad but to some people it can turn them off (kids with ADD). But they have the perfect maps for every type of player, the smaller maps are so well put together, I never once found myself feeling I'm getting killed or shot at from every corner. Everything felt balanced.

    - Replay Value: I was in awe for the first 45 minutes of playing online. Yes, I did play the Beta like everyone else but the final version felt much, MUCH better. Aside from the countless hours you are going to put into unlocking weapons etc in this game, the multiplayer gameplay itself is worth a good 2-3 years of solid gameplay for the average player. The biggest thing that stood out to me from Bad Company 2 was that it felt very dull, this is leaps and bounds above BC2. There is nothing I can complain about for the multiplayer. Conclusion: This is the game to buy for you guys who love MP FPS games. I am only writing this review because I see too many idiots bashing this game for its campaign. Battlefield is all about mutliplayer, if you want a solid campaign go play COD4. If you are having a hard time deciding between this and COD, I can tell you that this is the one game that combines every good aspect from all types of FPS games.

BF3 manages to provide some of the most enjoyable, awe-inspiring gameplay I have encountered in my 20-odd years of gaming. The single player campaign is a solid, fun game in it's own right; however all of the Battlefield franchise titles have centred around multiplayer, and (with that in mind) BF3 raises the bar and then some.

BF3 MP plays every bit as fast and frantic as the trailers would have you believe, and is graphically and aurally light years ahead of any other FPS on the market (or, indeed, the radar). Explosions, weapon recoil, smoke and supression effects (to name a few factors) all have a definite impact on the player, all down to developer DICE's much-vaunted 'Frostbite 2' game engine (which definitely lives up to the hype!)
BF3 won't be for everyone, though. The vehicle gameplay and the importance of teamwork may alienate some gamers more comfortable with straight-ahead, run n' gun twitch shooters.
Most of the negative feedback I've witnessed has been on BF3 forums, and seems to centre around features missing from this Battlefield release that were present in older games: what most folk either don't realise or won't accept is that gaming has evolved from 2005. BF3 deserves to be judged on it's own merits, not on the 'sins' of it's proverbial fathers.
If we can see and accept that gaming has evolved, and we look at this game objectively and fairly, then we have a new entity as the master race: Battlefield 3.

HOWEVER multiplayer tho is where you get what you paid for, its immense!!! I have played all the Call of Duty's (from the first ever one to black ops) and started playing Battlefield from Bad Company 2 and boy oh boy i wish i started playing the battlefield series earlier. There is so much to BF3 multiplayer, it looks great (even on low graphics), the maps are fantastic ranging from vast maps with jets and large scale warfare going all the way down to the very COD like team deathmatch mode on maps modified and made small for team deathmatch play. I have already mentioned the graphics, but the sound deserves a mention and for me no other game has ever got close to the quality that Battlefield has in terms of sound. You can hear bullet's whistling by, the scream of a jet above and the crackle of gun fire from the distance. Oh another random mention on the graphics (sorta), I love the fact that when you are playing on the night maps you get fantastic tracer fire that lights the battlefield up. So basically if you love multiplayer, just play this and you will be hooked for months!

On a side note, I find it really sad that people who probably havent even played the game, let alone brought it give it scores of 1 and 0 etc. Really are that petty!!!!!!!!!!

And of course the beta was a beta, obviously not to be used to judge this game.

Multiplayer, this game is everything it should be. I was looking for a battlefield game with huge maps, great vehicles and large player counts and this game more than provided that. Except for some first day release bugs (lag, a little rubberbanding, things that are expected the first day of release) the gameplay has been flawless. The maps are huge, but not too big that you spend forever just getting to a point. The vehicles feel right. The tanks feel like the did in BF2, not like BC2. I'm not that great at flying jets, I usually avoid them, but the ambiance they add to a battlefield is amazing. Nothing beats rolling up in a tank while you're watching four jets battle above your head.

The graphics are beautiful! And yes, it does take quite a rig to run it on the highest settings. Luckily I have a few graphic cards laying around so i can experiment with different setups. I get about ~45 fps on my gtx 460 on High settings, which still look great. I get about 50 or so using a HD 6950. However, I get mid to low 20's on both cards when I'm using ultra settings. I do however have a second 6950, and using both at the same time I'm able to get mid 50's on Ultra. Yes, it does look great, but to be honest, just stick with High settings, the loss of frame rate isn't worth the better graphics.

Overall, this game is everything I've wanted in a battlefield game. I've been following the development of this game very closely since it was announced, and due to the beta gameplay, I was very worried that I was going to be disappointed. But DICE pulled through, and made an OUTSTANDING product, props to you DICE.

The singleplayer is not that great and it is comparable to COD in aspects of linearity and blockbuster type action and yet I'd say superior writing and atmosphere. CO-OP is a bit better with 6 missions that are pretty fun with a friend.

What it shines with is multiplayer. You just don't find a shooter with team orientated framework built into its design anymore with the last one I remember being Team Fortress 2, although it's not that heavy. It's balanced and skillful with deep weapon progression and long term investments in unlocking new gear and ranks. Vehicles are an important force and staple on the field, but not instant death machines and they also require some work to use properly. You can be 4 different classes and all of them have helpful items for your team and you play in squads and feel part of a unit instead of people in a map killing each other.

I love Battlefield and the unique experiences it offers in a sea of modern shooting games. You just won't find anything else like it unless you like simulators like ARMA.

I can't think of a way to finish this, but I really recommend picking it up.

Great game. Looks fantastic, plays fantastic, really good variation in the maps. A really good selection of weapons with a distinct variation to them. Vehicles of all sorts! Loads of unlocks. Who cares about single player?

Call of Duty is always about yourself. You do good in the battle and nothing else matters. Battlefield 3 is also about yourself, but you depend on your team for results as well. As an example of this, In Call of Duty, everyone goes their separate ways and try to ring up as many kills as possible during the round. Battlefield 3 is also about yourself, but you depend on your team for results as well. As an example of this, In Call of Duty, everyone goes their separate ways and try to ring up as many kills as possible during the round. In Battlefield 3, you head in all different directions, but somehow, you and your team always end up in an area that is a "choke point" where the members from the opposing team meets you and members on your team... and that's when the battle actually starts.

I've played all of the Call of Duty games from the original to Blops. I've also played every Battlefield game from 1942 to BF3. When I play Call of Duty, I play a few rounds, I get bored, and I go do something else. With Battlefield, I play a few rounds... and then I play a few more rounds... and if I still have time, I may go find another server and play some more. The element that sells it for me in Battlefield is the "Teamwork" aspect, and Battlefield 3 checks, circles, and underlines that box.

So why is Battlefield 3 so much better? Visuals, Audio, well designed maps, very well planned unlocks, and a sense of realism that has never been there in other Battlefield or CoD games are all present in BF3. I keep coming back for more because the game is satisfying in a way that no other FPS game has ever been for me. The multiplayer experience is second to none. Just be warned... if you're looking for a quick blast with an SMG and expect to get tons of points from run-and-gun tactics, Battlefield 3 is NOT for you. Patience and accuracy is rewarded. Reckless actions are met with failure 9 out of 10 times.

Really decide what you like about FPS games. If you like running around with a quick trigger finger, go play Blops or MW3. If you like careful tactics and team work, BF3 will do it for you easily.

Oh yea... the tanks and planes are good too.

It's a shame that games HAVE to release a single player campaign nowadays... people demand it. It wasnt horrible, but the entire single player is beside the point.... what % of your time on this game will be fore the single player? the multiplayer is awesome, not revolutionary, just pure awesome.

This is the new milestone for the fps games. The multiplayer is simply astonishing and the single player is just a scripted guided experience to show us the power of the Frostbite Engine. There is simply no game actually that cah make you feel like in a real Battlefield like this one.

this game is JUST THE BEST SHOOTER OF ALL TIMES, nuff said. nothing can mess with those graphics, the mp part is just as awesome as bf2 and nothing can compare with this sound and feeling 2 be in the battlefield.. not mw3, not counter strike go, nothing. if u got no idea about video games u won't agree 2 my opinion because u suck in mp games but thats okay guys not everyone can be a pro.

The game is very balanced and fair. The squad and team management is excellent and love the feel of the guns. The Jets/Helicopters are really fun as well, although i wish people would stop taking it and crashing it after 1 minute of takeoff. The increase of points needed to level is great. Takes much longer to level which makes everything more balanced since there will be less people with better guns O.Ping the beginners.

The single player was better than any COD series IMO.
Very suspenseful and intense, with non-stop action.
Although there were a few bugs with it, they didn't bother me at all.

    Just a note: I used to be a COD fan till COD1 - COD4 & MW2
BF3 just taken over MW2, if people actually take a chance with this game.

Now that is just half of this amazing experience as this game also has the best multiplayer ever....this game is simply awesome.

The only things that really hamper BF3's potential momentarily is server issues and some things with battlelog. While the campaign wasn't the newest and best thing in the world, I had a ton of fun and enjoyed the hours I put into it to beat it on hard. Sure there may be a few too many quicktime events, but overall it was interesting, fun, and beautiful I might add. This also on low graphics it looks amazing (so my laptop can run it, which it does pretty well). Like the most lifelike characters I've ever seen in any game with very realistic movements, and a game where when you play the campaign you want to slow down just to look around is pretty darn good. If any issues I've mentioned above hinders your thoughts about this game then you have missed the point entirely, because MP is absolutely the best I have ever played. People have asked for innovation and it has arrived. If you didn't expect such an ambitious game to have a little bit of a rocky launch because of everything they're releasing, then don't ask for innovation. The problems I've experienced are nothing absolutely major and can be easily patched out soon. Back to MP, the amount of customization that is allowed on each class and gun provides gameplay exactly how you want it. And one of the things that really sets BF3 apart is that you have so much freedom in how you play and it still remains extremely balanced. The amount of game modes you get and number of maps that are all stellar combine for the most fun and biggest deal you can get out of a game. I could go on and on, but this game has so much to offer, things that are really good are also the co-op mode along with the sound that is stellar and destruction that never leaves you feeling safe. If you have the patience to play what can be played and let Dice work out the server kinks then you can truly appreciate this game for what it is, a different experience that is ultimately most fun you'll have all year. The game follows closely with the rest of the BF series, with large expanded maps, vehicular warfare, and a reward system for squad based tactics. Every class is useful with each of their jobs and the game tries to promote a mix of classes to be a more successful squad when teamwork is being used, even in their "condensed" form. (example: assault and medic class combined into one). On the other hand, not having a Commander diminishes it's value because of certain tactics is now left out of the equation. No more are the artillery strikes, or the map scans, or even supply drops. Much of that is left with the squads and squad commanders, on a much smaller scale. That also leaves out another objective, by trying to go behind enemy lines and take the important commander buildings out. dice took that objective out and turned it into another game mode called rush. Graphicwise, it is one of the more intense sceneries to date. Tracer fire everywhere, with smoke pluming in the background, destructible environments all adds to the feel of a real life battlefield. Destructible environments alone adds to the tactical flare of the game. Can't go around a wall? C4 it and make your own door. Enemy camping in the building and you not having line of sight to the enemy? Tank with a couple of AP shells in that building will bring the building into rubble. I know there are alot of gripes about Origin, but to be honest, I see no major flaws in the system. The game loads lightning quick compared to BF2 or 2142. It will have a learning curve to use, since it is somewhat a new way to interface with the game. We could also say the same about Steam when it first was released. All in all, I find BF3 to be a refreshing departure to the CoD world of Ramboesque style, one man army gameplay, to a large scale full on 64 player war, where squad based team play reigns king. I tried it out on the recommendation of a friend and I damn near **** my pants every time I load this baby up. The single player is not nearly as linear as some of these reviewers give it credit for. YES, it is linear in the sense that it's not Crysis. However, there is a flanking option for nearly EVERY encounter in the game. You don't just sit behind cover and pop your head up every 2 minutes like the Call of Duty series. Some people say campaign is too short... play it on hard. Some people say there are lots of bugs. I have encountered a handful sure, but nothing that the patch in one week won't fix. People are quick to get their bullhorns out because of how hyped this game was, they were expecting pure gold. New game engine is wonderful. Game is hard what is good. I have to say only BF, (if it comes) is remake of 1942 to frostbite 2 engine. But this is best Bf for now. I recommend this.

I bought this game for the multiplayer, and I love it! It's exactly what I wanted it to be, which is a better version of Bad Company 2. Better graphics, more destructible environments, amazing sound. It's the immersive, semi-realistic shooter I've always wanted. The classes are all different and all useful, and it's slower paced than MW.

I might eventually play the single player campaign.

Origin is annoying, but it hasn't really anything to do with the game itself, so it should not appear in the rating. Battlelog is less annoying than I initially thought, and as a stats page its awesome.
The game is exactly what I expected it to be when buying: Big maps, vehicles, tons of enemies to shoot -> Battlefield.

It's all a matter of taste, after all. They each provide a certain type of entertainment – when talking about Battlefield 3, it involves a bigger game, more open in its possibilities and more spectacular. But on a longer timeline, less frantic and with fewer Bruce Willis scenes than the mass appeal beast it set itself to dethrone.
