I've been a Battlefield fan for a while, and I was not let down by this title. The singleplayer is very well made regarding graphics and story, there are some awesome quick time elements, unfortunately the A.I. is not excellent and the areas in which you fight are often enclosed making it like a shooting gallery. For the most part it is very linear, which makes it lack a depth in the gameplay that I find necessary in this age of games. However, the co-op mode is a great inclusion and I find the co-op missions really fun, all depth returns when you can play missions with a friend - and the fact that the missions have a separate story running throughout and are all completely different scenario's is ideal. And then of course there is the MP, while not a perfect bug free experience it is without a doubt the most robust and statisfying first person shooter experience on any platform. Tonnes of unlocks, tonnes of weapons and vehicles including jets, 64 player combat et all. Alongside that, Battlelog is a great addition, it's in it's fledgling stages at the moment and there are issues but it is greatly powerful and these things are all being addressed by Dice.

Alongside that, because I preordered BF3 (For £30) I am getting Back to Karkand for free, the first DLC, with another 4 maps, 3 vehicles and 10 weapons. All in all, the game is remarkable, while not perfect it undoubtedly deserves a 10 for really stepping up what is expected of you in an FPS.

I reload battlelog at least once a day in hopes of making it work again (it doesn't-- I have to exploit glitches like having a friend message me to make it work.) Origin and Battlelog should exclude each other. There's no reason to have an in-browser launch system for a game with it's own launch client-- ignoring the fact that by and large, Origin works just fine( --hasn't crashed on me).
I have to express complaints about updating your character model. You can't change it in-game, just through the infamous Battlelog.
Team chat is very large and blocks a full 25% of my screen; I still haven't been able to figure out voice chatting with my teammates (I wish it was like tf2), so I've been forced to use a 3rd party application.
Aside from those, it's fantastic. Squads actually aren't too bad, and I love mp to death.
But please, oh please fix Battlelog. I just want to play the game.

If that wasn't challenging enough enemy's can find some great hiding places to jump out on you or pick you off with a well placed sniper shot. Ive personally not had any problems with it, not since the Beta at least. This game obviously shines the most in it's multiplayer, it's what will keep me playing for months, possibly years like I did with 1942 and BF2. On the other hand, the single player is a little iffy, it's pretty good. But this game didn't need a single player to begin with. The old school PC Battlefield's never had one, so I wasn't really expecting anything out of it. There are a few things as of now that I hope they fix with the gameplay, but it's a great game, and for sure beats the hell out of MW2.5. Expand

I also really like that engineers can now carry mines and an RPG, which wasn't possible in some previous BF games (I haven't played them all).

Some people complain that the game now has a lot of "console features", which "suck" on PC. I think this features help people starting to play FPS games and the fact is that all those features, such as vehicle health regen, can be disabled on the server. Hardcore mode is great as there is no health regen, no map, no aim guide when shooting form the hip, etc.

    Pros:
    - Unlocks per weapon / vehicle.

    - Team play

If you aren't use to FPS controls, they take some getting used to, but the control-design of everything from your soldier, to both air and land vehicles, and even to the way projectiles are affected by gravity are all superb - fluent and intuitive. I doubt ANYONE played these games for the single player, no matter what the critics say it has no influence in the sales and quality of each game in this day in age. They know what they are and thats a MP experience and if you wanna try support the single player, then you obviously haven't played any other proper single player experience this year as the market is littered with better experiences. Now back to battlefield 3, i'll start with a list of innovations in gameplay and graphics.... The destruction system, while flawed and not red faction, its still really immersive and realistic. Terrain deformation, bit of wall flying off wen trying to hide.... its insane who good it looks. I mean I see a bunch of enemies hold up in one area, fire a rocket above them and the building falls and kills them all. Like wow! It brings new levels of realism and immersion to the experience. The animation system they built is incredible, characters die, move, shoot, you name it, they do it so realistic its makes you stop a marvel at the true innovation they've incorporated here. Vehicles looks amazing, firing a tank in a wooded area and all the trees bend to the shockwave of the force from the cannon.... WHAT GAME DOES THIS! So amazing to watch. Small little innovations to gameplay also to balance the experience are implemented like flashlight blindings, laser sights so blind snipers out of their camping poistion, not to mention the lense flare if the sniper point in scope at you specifically. All these little things help push the genre forward.

The sound in this game is unrivaled by ANY game. Just amazing, I feel like I'm in a real battlefield from start to finish of a map and it truly shows what can be done these days. This is the game you show to non-gamers to show them how far games have come and how much room for improvement a lot of games need to make to even come close to competitive with this great title. You can tell they put so much time and effort into a truly deep, immersive and NEW experience than its previous iterations. New engine = yes imo. DICE you've done it again 10/10

Something that really bump up the experience for me, is the fact that there are really good graphic visuals, effects, movements, as well audio effects. The last thing I point about the game is teamwork, there are 4 types of soldiers, engineer, sniper, medic, assault. so in order to achieve a win in your team is working together, Other things that I noted is that controls are simple to use as you go as a soldier. The hard thing is to get control of aeroplanes and helicopters, but once you get the control of those machines you will most likely to become a master of the art of piloting. The Bad thing or maybe good for the enemy is that it takes a while to discover from where are the bullets coming, and even if you realize you will die, so the best is run for your live !

He is a troll, games that a dedicated for reviews scores of a 1 or below include: Hulk Hogan's Main Event, and Big Rigs: Over the Road racing. Now, onto my review. I know what people say about the campaign, but I personally loved it. The deaths were not expected, but were actually believeable. The main story might've been a little cliched, but what happened in the game itself was different than what was done before. Now, the score: The score is absolutely amazing, and after I right this, I will proceed to buy it off of iTunes. The music isn't always blaring in your ears, but when it is playing, it really compliments the game. The mulitplayer is one word: competely expectation- shattering. I was maybe a little scared about how Battlefield 3 would be, but all my doubts were put to death. The multiplayer is amazing. You can't wait to get your next unlock, and DICE doesn't shove a new unlock down your throat every game, conquest NEEDS teamwork, and so does rush, which seperates battlefield from other FPS games. Btw, jkneuper, I'm sorry, but you are an idiot. Squad voice chat is by no means a reason to reduce a games review score by 8 pts. You can communicate with them with text chat by pressing L, or have them be your friends (unless you don't have any :P) and join their party, or Ventrilo or Teamspeak. Battlefield and Call of Duty fans have been doing this forever to each other. So I don't recommend looking up reviews for these games, but rather check them out yourself. Mt personal opinion is this game is this: it is a masterpiece. The only problem I have is with the recent patch, the first for the game. It made aircraft and helicopters super weapons. It takes ~3 rockets to kill them, but they can kill you with one bullet. I pray that they fix this error. Other than that, thumbs up from me. Expand

Multi-player is fun and action packed with walls crumbling around around as well as buildings from indirect fire. Game features a decent Single Player campaign with a good story mixed with a mainly Multi-player engaged game. Dozens of unlockables through Assignments as well as weapon mastery just make Battlefield 3 one of best first person shooters available. Destruction however has been scaled back slightly from its Battlefield Bad Company 2 (Which used the first Frostbite engine) for more of a strategic value. As what happened in Battlefield Bad Company 2 the terrain that was once a city if your on a urban environment was basically left in ruin at the end with no viable structures standing. Some see this as a step backwards however I see it as more of a strategy implementation. The sounds are amazing with more realistic sounds with it either be the snaps of bullets wizzing past your head or the sound of bullets impacting concrete near you it sounds very close to being real life. Destruction on the new DLC is amazing as well with the game being pretty balanced in terms of guns and the rock paper scissors game of vehicle warfare. With the magnitude of warfare alone this game makes the other game of a similar name look like child's play (Modern Warfare 3). This game is a true Modern Warfare game with a very wide spectrum of warfare from infantry to air to air and air to ground combat as well as vehicle combat. If your looking for a shooter with a purpose other than to kill the enemy this is the game for you. If your looking for a game with a full spectrum combat and massive chaos this is for you. If your looking for a game that just runs around and kills people for a higher body count for "Bragging rights" this really isn't ur game. Walls cumble, ground gets deformed and buildings come falling down.

With the multitude of game modes there should be enough for everyone's preference.

Conquest and Conquest large is basically a Take and Hold game centered around a set of flags.
Rush is an attack and defend game primarily around a set of defined objectives (Usually 2 MCOM Stations) that need to be attacked to advance and as the defended, needs to be defended to win.

Squad DM and Team DM sounds as it is. Squad DM is a Squad-Based Death Match where as Team DM is a infantry on infantry warfare with the objective to make the other team run out of tickets first (Tickets = Spawn count).

Battlefield 3 is an awesome vehicle based combat game that is heavy on chaos and destruction compared to the other watered down shooters that came out the same year.

BF3 is my all-time favorite. It has it all. The multitude of vehicles are a joy to drive and pilot. The weapons choices and upgrades adds enough variety to find your niche guns of choice. The graphics are fantastic and near life-like with destructible environments. The game emphasis on teamwork in your squad is quite good - your perks and loadouts really help your squad overall and you get rewarded for your efforts. While I can get knifed like everyone else and hammered from an m249 in the blink of an eye, I don't feel the frustration - it makes me be more cautious at times to support my squad. All the games dynamics work together for a very positive experience. The feel of the game is perfect for me and highly recommend it over the competition. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Battlefield 3 is everything you were expecting, amazing graphics and sound design, huge and destructible maps filled with amazing detail (even on low settings), a fun Co-Op and a small but very entertaining Single Player. Some spoilers and long text incoming... First off, the Battlefield 3 Single Player. Battlefield 3 Single Player is far better than what I was expecting, all the critics saying that it was "cliché" and "boring in some points", but the truth is that Battlefield 3 campaign is really good. The Single-player starts with a bang, and then it slows a little bit. When the story started to slowdown I was I starting to think that the critics were correct, but right after the earthquake mission the the story just got serious and better, I was getting really entertained by it. The cut-scenes were well made and with good performances. The story has a lot of twists and and strong emotional points, witch all of them were very well made, but if you want to understand it, you need to be really concentrated. The campaign is really good and entertaining but it suffers from some bugs, A.I problems and the biggest of my complain, it is too much short. I finish this campaign in 3/4 hours, it might be short but it was entertaining. The Co-Op is very useful for the Multiplayer. It is really fun, entertaining and hard. The Co-Op is also short but each mission is different. The most fun might the chopper gunner, one controls the helicopter and the other is giving covering fire for two squads moving through the village. In the Co-Op you receive points that unlock some useful weapons that you can use in the Multiplayer. The Multiplayer is were Battlefield 3 really shines. Battlefield 3 Multiplayer is by far the best online experience I had (and still having) in 2011, this multiplayer just raised the barrier of FPS shooters in every perspective. The maps are huge and very detailed and the sound effects are top-notch. But this is a small part of this multiplayer experience. The biggest part is the freedom of choice, you can drive tanks, Humvees, jeeps and fly helicopter and jets. But the freedom does not stop here, with the power of Frostbite 2 engine, Battlefield 3 multiplayer maps are fully destructible. a camper hiding in a house near a wall? No problem, just put an RPG, a Tank or anything explosive into work and blow that wall! If that is not enough, just make the house crumble into pieces and dust. The destruction in Battlefield 3 is a real step forward from Bad Company 2. In Battlefield 3, when you start a match the maps are really amazing and detailed, in the end it´s just a pure chaos, in other words, it´s a full battlefield.Unlike some other FPS shooters, in Battlefield 3 you will need to work with your team, being a lone wolf wont help your team win the match. What surprised me most in battlefield 3 multiplayer is the unlocking system, it´s really easy to use and each weapon/vehicle/jets/Helicopters have a lot of unlocks. Before I talk about battlelog, battlefield's multiplayer also has some annoying things and problems in but they will not take away this amazing experience. Now it´s time for the Battlelog service provided by EA. First off, I don´t like that much Origin, but it is in beta stage and in the future it can be better. The Battlelog is where you start the Single Player/Multiplayer/Co-Op modes, in the Beta was not even impressed by the Battlelog, but now I think it is good and very easy to use. In battlelog is so easy to check your stats, unlocking progression, matches, dog tags, etc. In four clicks you can join a multiplayer match with a friend or alone. The stats are all there and you can even check every information of any weapon. You can chat and see your friends progression and stats and even comment every progression that he made during a match, and all of this is for free. For me Battlelog is very simple to use and it is what it was suppose to be, but it has some problems and it can be upgraded with some new things and improvements. This is the deepest and honest review I could have made for Battlefield 3, I made clear all the good points and the bad points, I know I am going to have a some haters down votes but I don´t care that much. Controls can feel a little rusty at first, but once you get used to them, it will turn out a lot better. I also recommend a gaming mouse and keyboard, if you have the money

It's campaign is boring, but it's okay for practicing the controls. Co-op is also okay, and you can unlock weapons for MP in co-op. Multiplayer is where it really shines.

One downside is that it forces you to use Battlelog in PC; but it's not that big of a deal.

NOTE: THIS REVIEW IS ABOUT BATTLEFIELD 3 IN IT'S CURRENT STATE (WITH BACK TO KARKAND).

I will admit upfront that I am a longtime Battlefield fan. I have owned and sunk many hours into every Battlefield ever made (including modern combat). I will also admit that I am not a fan of Call of Duty. I enjoyed all of the games up to Call of Duty 4, but after that, it became too fast paced and competitive to enjoy.

Now, with that out of the way, I am NOT going to base this review on whether Battlefield is better than Call of Duty, nor will I base it on the previous Battlefield games. This review is meant to help someone who does not care about either franchise make an informed purchasing decision.

Graphics (9/10): The graphics in this game are beautiful. While they are not the most beautiful I have ever seen, they do an amazing job of making you feel integrated into the game world. I love the fire effects, I love the detail work, I love the shaders. However, they decided to put a blue-ish tinted filter on. It may not be noticeable at first, but eventually you will be all like, "Hey! Everything in this game is blue!" there was a great article explaining all of the post processing they did, and the blue is supposed to evoke emotion while playing (or something). However, my biggest complaint about graphics would have to be the sun glare. If you are facing the sun or trying to shoot at a helicopter in the air, you will be almost completely blinded by the sun glare. I would have given graphics an 8/10, however the fact that DICE created a whole new engine and made revolutionary graphics for the first time in years gives them that extra boost. Do research into a new GPU if you haven't already, this game is demanding.

Sound (10/10): The sound in this game is excellent. From rounds whizzing past your head, the crack of stray bullets striking the concrete, or even the echoes of your gunfire being reverberated off of the distant scenery gives this game an intense atmosphere. Vehicles sound like vehicles. Guns are loud and thick. helicopters have different effects depending on where you are in relation to them. I could go on and on about the sound because the sound, in my opinion, is unrivaled. If you were considering buying a sound card for this game, do it. And buy surround sound too.

Multiplayer gameplay (8/10): Since the campaign and the multiplayer are so drastically different, I am splitting them into two separate parts. The multiplayer is fantastic. In cooperative, there are 6 missions for you and one other person to play through. In multiplayer, there are APCs, tanks, helicopters, jets, jeeps, anti-air, boats, and even forklifts. Even if vehicles are not your thing, the infantry combat feels very effective with 4 diverse classes. The game has a variety of game modes including rush, conquest, team deathmatch, squad deathmatch, and squad rush. In all, I am impressed with the multiplayer. However, there are some significant flaws which the developers have failed to take care of (as of yet). For one, there is no balancing mechanism. I understand that dedicated servers dominate the list, but there needs to be some kind of balancing mechanism present. I cannot count the number of times I have been put on a team who is losing 15 to 300. It gets very frustrating as one team will just plow the other round after round after round. Also, there is no spawn protection. I know that many people do not like the idea of spawn protection, but eventually after spawning and being immediately killed before even having the chance to move, they will warm up to it. There are a few more flaws involved, but those are the most glaring.

Single-player gameplay (4/10): If you are considering dropping the $60 on this game just for the single-player - Don't. The campaign was O-K. Sometimes I really enjoyed it, other times I wanted to pull my hair out. There is no reward or recognition for completing the campaign. The story was somewhat confusing, and the characters were very uninspired. If anyone has any military or LE background, the techniques the (spoiler) interrogators use are glaringly wrong. Just skip past it. Interface (6/10): If you are purchasing this for the PC, you will HAVE to use Origin, and you will HAVE to use Battlelog (a website from which you launch the game). Why the developers thought this was a good idea is beyond me. At first it seemed impossibly evil, however it is beginning to grow on me. In-game the interface is somewhat clunky, but acceptable. DICE has already made adjustments improving the interface with patches, but they have a ways to go.

Overall: Ignoring the single-player entirely, this game receives an 8.25/10. The multiplayer is fun, the graphics are beautiful, the sound is eerily realistic, and there are many things to unlock. If you are looking for a new FPS experience, this is the game for you. And for the BF fanboys: This is not BC3; this is not the BF2 sequel. This is BF3.

But on a longer timeline, less frantic and with fewer Bruce Willis scenes than the mass appeal beast it set itself to dethrone.
