    Are you kidding me?
It doesn't feel like you are playing battlefield game.
Great graphics, terrible single player game play.
It is like Witcher 3. Overrated boring game.

I miss Batllefield Bad company 2. It was the best.....

Also, they should have gone for a WW2 theme instead because this doesn't resemble WW1 the slightes, it's a joke.

After a decade give or take of online co-op and single player, and being a huge war buff, Battlefield1 was going to be the one to reintroduce me to MP competitive shooters. Single player was still fun but short and was a nice intro to a few mechanics, though BF1 has of some of the worst AI I've witnessed in years. WTF Dice? "F" for effort on that one.
Still it looks fantastic and plays

Still it looks fantastic and plays fairly well on my aging machine(i5 4670k, gtx770,16Gb ram) with mostly high settings, though its well obvious I could do with a new build for this one as I can only seem to squeeze 30fps (64 player MP) which just doesnt quite cut it. I get 60fps SP. "Fairplay" seems to weasel out cheaters but how many still lip through I couldnt say.
I dunno, its somewhat fun but still unfulfilling...I find myself lacking any sense of excitement playing this ...maybe there just isnt enough meat in large scale competitive shooters for my liking. Maybe I expect too much.

I'm only in it for the single player experience. I never played Battlefront, and I haven't touched a Battlefield game in what feels like a decade.

Its not accurate to WW1, The AI is dumb as bricks as usual. Its not immersive.

Now we'll have to wait another 10 years till someone makes another WW1 and a shame since I wanted to be engrossed in the WW1 era now.

The game is loaded with snipers, because they can one hit kill you from range. Tanks are so over powered they get boring fast. I tanked a lot on past BF games, was global number 1 tanker on ps3 for over a year. I was disappointed with BF1 tanks. Way too simplified and easy to rack up massive kill streaks with. Tank on tank fights are bland and it's often a case of who gets the first shot off or who had x amount of repair players.

With the map layouts in mind. Sniper camping, team spawning, kill cam and grenade spam, horses with massive health pools, over powered tanks etc. Matches are reduced to meat grinders. That or a game more based around a jogging simulator as you race from one objective to another. Then towards the end of the match, the losers get to hammer the winning side with either a battleship, blimp or armored train.

The game is less about skill, opening up to casual gamer's wallets, and more random luck and chaos. I enjoyed past BF games for the strategy and tactics but in Bf1 it's more about spawning and dying and gaming ones reactions as players run around like headless chickens in waves.

Other things bent towards casuals are random kits off the floor that make you overpowered, an elite hero unit that can soak up bullets while racking up easy kills like out of battlefront.

Bf1 is a step away from games like BF 1942, Vietnam, 2142, and more towards games like call of duty or battlefront. Shame.

The game is not a simulator but it is dripping in so much authenticity and historical relevance that it makes for a wonderfully rich experience. It is this 'richness' that is why I can recall all of the fun moments I had playing BF1942 when I was younger. This game is the perfect balance between fun and play-ability, yet it is gritty and emotive.

    Positives: - Incredible well optimised.

This game is the perfect balance between fun and play-ability, yet it is gritty and emotive.

    Positives:
    - Incredible well optimised.
    - Graphics are jaw-droppingly deep.
    - Combat is varied and no one person has the best load out.
    - Guns are a joy to use and their weaknesses become charms or quirks to master.
    - Vehicles are polished to look at and to operate.
    - Weather effects make for a dynamic situational combat. (big maps can become close quarters)
    - Arsenal variety: Gas grenades, Limpet mines, Hatchets, Trip-wires, Air-motors, the list goes on...
    - ...Pigeons.

    Negatives:
    - Multiple variations on the same weapon seem a little misplaced.
    - Class rank unlocks are strange - lots of reward up to 5 and then nothing until 10.
    - Holding to skip revive time is a little frustrating but I see how it benefits the medic class.
    - Price - It's high but for all you get, the phrase 'just take my money' comes to mind.
P.S. Hold off on Season Pass - Deluxe is enough.

I wanted to give the review a 9.5 because it is much closer to perfect than a 9 would have you believe. The critic score of 88 is spot on.

Cons - VERY limited weapons. This is one of my biggest gripes with the game alone (hopefully fixed in the future) with how EA does their Expansion Passes now, deliver half a game, then part out the rest over the next 6-12 months $$$. Balance, just check youtube (OP snipers and a certain shotgun with ridiculous 1 shot-range) this can easily be fixed in a patch or two thankfully we've already seen a couple of. That would change my 8.5 to a real 9.

The game is absolutely garbage unstable, as per usual for the last few releases this game has major net code issues. I am sure at some point those will be fixed, but the internet stability issues, and the inability to play the game, and the absolutely abysmal stability for the net results in kicks at least 85% of the time I play. For the amount of money I paid for this game.... and after the absolute crap fiasco Star Wars Battle Front was (and the fact that Battlefield 1 uses this garbage game interface) makes the game unplayable. tl;dr - the game rewards failure. If a team is losing they get either a blimp or an armored train, depending on the map. It's like a participation trophy for the fat slow kids, but in this case the fat kid uses the trophy to bludgeon the first place kid to death.

The trailerWhen I first saw the trailer for Battlefield 1 I was ecstatic. The game looked like it was going to be an immersive experience taking place in a setting that was very unfamiliar to gamers, World War 1. The story trailer depicted the horrors of combat during the war, and showed the main character visually shaken as they struggled to survive in the bloody conflict around them. The trailer depicted a Battlefield game that would have a meaningful story. So I purchased it and downloaded it as soon as I could.
The first mission was an awesome experience. The player faced off against waves of German soldiers who continuously encroached further and further. When the player died, instead of respawning, the name of the player character and age at time of death was displayed on the screen. Then the player is transported to the body of another soldier on the front. This continues until an artillery bombardment completely annihilates the battlefield, killing the Germans and player character alike. I was ready for the next mission, this innovative way of dealing with the player death was definitely an interesting innovation. I started up the next mission and watched as soldiers charge forward ahead of me. I found myself in a slow moving tank taking on hundreds of infantry and a few dozen tanks. It was then that I realized that Battlefield 1 was nothing special.
Battlefield 1 continued the same infuriating trope that has plagued first person military shooters for a long time. It made the player character an almost indestructible badass, who can take out an entire fortress of enemies on their own. Instead of focusing on immersion and making the player character killable like everyone else, as in the first mission, the developers chose to focus on the player and the player alone. Instead of being an individual in a massive charge through no man's land, the game makes you attack cities and towns by yourself, as if you were some sort of super soldier. I feel like squad based combat like in Battlefield Bad Company 2 would have been a decent compromise. Or a campaign based on the results of multiplayer gameplay like that of Titanfall. Instead the players were given the same formula they had been given in the past two iterations of battlefield, and the countless interactions of Call of Duty.
Battlefield 1’s story line is also non-consequential. Every single one of the protagonists is the good guy, the Germans and Ottomans the bad guys. Every single one of the main characters is depicted as moral and heroic while the Germans and Ottomans are portrayed as cowardly. The main characters are the most white-bread characters that I have played as in a video game. None of their character flaws are revealed, probably because the player is only introduced to them for a few missions before switching to another battle halfway across the world, and another copied and pasted character. From the trailers I was expecting a game that’s narrative would be as similarly dark and brutal as the fantastic game Spec Ops the Line. In a ferrous attempt to escape from the enemy the player has to make heart wrenching decisions, and commits atrocities in order to survive. Battlefield 1 has none of these moral failings, and the decisions are of minute importance, such as what weapon should I use, and if should I kill the enemy, and even then these decisions mean nothing to the narrative. Infact when I tried to go through a mission without killing or alerting any of the enemies the cutscene still depicted bodies sprawled across the terrain.
Battlefield 1’s story and portrayal of Word War 1 is extremely weak, and a testament to Dice’s incompetence at crafting singleplayer narratives. Dice should focus their resources on what they do best, multiplayer. Don’t be fooled by the single player trailers, this game is not worth purchasing for the single player alone and the multiplayer while fun does not offer an authentic experience. The proliferation of light machine guns and prototype submachine guns completely ruins any immersion that might have existed. The anti-tank rockets that are unlocked at the start of the game completely negate tank use, and the Dreadnaughts, battleship or zeppelins, are not the Goliath challenges as they are depicted in the trailer. The lack of teamwork especially hurts the multiplayer experience and makes it significantly more casual game-play. If you want a multiplayer game to play with a squad of close friends and move tactically this is certainly not the game for you, check out Insurgency instead. In conclusion if you are expecting a chaotic first person shooter to casually kill some times time with your friends and you don’t care about story, this game is for you.

I had lost faith in the BattleField franchise on the PC. The BF3 & BF4 releases were graphically accomplished, but highly unpolished products (browser plugin for matchmaking) with less of, well pretty much every part of the battlefield mechanic.
So what has BF1 done to turn it around? Well, the matchmaking and game selection is all part of the game, not a bolt on, so it feels like a finished product. The game contains the whole interface.
The single-player campaign is very enjoyable and is an excellent preparation for the on-line game.
The maps are wide and varied with a good selection of weather, vehicles and mobile spawns. The game encourages teamwork and while not intuitive, the interface enables plenty of customisation for your player classes. I am lucky enough to have a top-end PC, so the game runs smoothly on maximum settings and looks amazing, but my sons both have older Core i5's with much cheaper graphics cards - however they are able to run the game at acceptable frame-rates.
Overall the game is a strong move in the right direction, reclaiming the earlier glory days of the BattleField name.
On the downside, there are currently few servers. Some nights you cannot get on a game. Why? From past experience it's most likely EA dictating who can host servers (and therefore pumping up the prices).

Also don't expect any historical accuracy - it's "in the style of world war one" more than based on anything real. But to be fair, who was expecting it would be anything else?

The game is mostly set in 1917/1918 and doesn't include (as yet) most of the major battles. So no Gallipoli (1915), no Marnes (1914), no Serbian Campaign (1914), no Verdun (1916), no Somme (1916), no Spring Offensive (1918) and no Hundred days (1918).

The maps in the game are Fao Fortress (1914), Suez (1915), Monte Grappa (1917), Argonne Forest (1918), St. Quentin Scar (1918), Sinai Desert (1915-1918) and Amiens (1918).

If you're a fan of the BF franchise, you'll enjoy this title.

Firstly I think the day 1 user reviews are a tad pathetic due to the fact they are either hating on the game and giving it a 0 or looking at it through rose tinted glasses and giving it a 10 based on an hour or so of gametime. I try to be a little more objective than that hence the delay.

This is THE game I have been waiting for this year and now having played on it extensively I will start by saying it is a great game, it still is by no means perfect but still a fine addition to the series.

Graphically it has no peers, this is to me one of the best looking games of all time if not the best. The textures are rich and detailed, the environment stunning and it's just a visual feast to behold, especially running on ultra with everything to the max in 1440p. I have yet to try to remove the hud but I would think that would add yet another level to the setting and it's on my to do list, if I dare that is, not knowing how much ammo I have left before charging the enemy wouldn't be the best scenario to be in. The sound is pretty good too, the sound of shells exploding next to you and gunfire whizzing overhead as you make your way to objectives can be unsettling at times, in a good way.

The multiplayer aspect is as you'd expect with Battlefield games, not much has changed here in my opinion apart from the Operations mode which is great. It is multiplayer where I have spent most of my time, perfecting my roles and learning the dynamics of the game. I always find in Battlefield games that I get destroyed early on but the more I play the more I learn and find my preferred playstyle and start getting positive results. It's always a learning curve and patience and perseverance pay off.

Moving along to campaign, this is where I feel Battlefield 1 falls short. The opening campaign mission that you have to do before unlocking the rest was fantastic, it captured that gritty, gloomy feeling of WWI combat, it was chaotic and it worked. I loved how when I died a name would pop up with birth to death dates show before spawning as someone else in the battle. Sadly the rest of the campaign I feel fails to live up to the first mission and subsequently fails to illuystrate the horrors of WWI combat, the Friends in High Places especially, I hated the cocky Yank guy and couldn't shake that feeling that the campaign had lost its way a little. The lawrence of Arabia mission too, one man (woman) vs all, it's just dubious, obviously in the name of entertainment some creative license was needed but it just felt like it was the wrong call. The campaign fails therefore to capture the horrors of WWI, quite miserably it must be said which is a shame given how good the opening mission was.

The spectator mode is something I want to try but have so far not been able to find out how to, I quite like the idea of messing around with filters and taking screens etc of matches.

Overall I am happy with Battlefield 1, I still wish Dice would have allowed for better character customization and maybe the ability to select race. It just isn't doing anything for historical accuracy to have a squad as diverse as this where the white man was the minority but I suppose Dice have their political views to express, it's not a big problem and I understand why Dice may have wanted to demonstrate their political stance but in the grand scheme of things I just felt it was misplaced. Apart from the historical innacuracies this game is both fun and infuriating at the same time, a fine addition to the franchise but no masterpiece.

But historically this is way off. As someone else wrote, could've just as well been another WW2 shooter.

It also feels very artifically chaotic, and the pacing is just like the previous games, over-the-top and everything-in-you-face-at-once. Michael Bay did this.

Sound design is wierd. For some reason you can hear battle from far far away, but not the heavly equipped guy running up beside you. Or a tank for that matter, until it's driving over your corpse..

You don't automatically spot someone you shooting at, you have to press another button just to do that. Which honestly is ridiculous, and contributes to that artifical feeling.

And that naging feeling that what you see is NOT quite what you get, like with previous BF-games, is here as well. You dying long after taking cover, etc, etc. Maybe these games needs to be this chaotic to prevent this from becoming too glaringly appearant.

Have played it for some 20-30 hours. Have now uninstalled it.

The singleplayer campaign could've been longer. The first mission set-up high hopes for the campaign, but it falls short. It's still the best campaign that DICE has every pulled off, yet The stages for each area are unbalanced. You get: 4 sections for tank, 4 sections for air, 2 for heavy armor, 3 for runner, and 3 for middle east. The voice acting, the story, and the variety they give us is good, but there could've been more.

As for the multiplayer, it is great for the most part. The squad-based mechanic really gives a nice sense of teamwork and coordinations. The vehicles look, control, and feel like their actual WWI counter parts. As for the guns, there are way too many automatic weapons for it to be an realistic WWI game. The gamemodes are really great, especially operation. Operation gives you the true sense of struggle for control over lands during WWI.

Tanks that are almost unstoppable and a safe haven for want to be cheaters. I hope that DICE will fix the guns to a more believable range. As of right now it's a sniper/tank fest! Sad, sad, sad.

I previously reviewed this and gave it a 4. I've always focused on vehicles in the BF series, going back to the Vietnam release. Having spent a little more time with the game, I'm downgrading it further to a 2.

This is not the BF of yore, where vehicle combat meant something to the outcome of a match. This is basically an infantry game with some sloppily added vehicles. Depth of play in the infantry role breaks down to one of the four classes and the variations in their weapons. It heavily favors sniping (Scout class). Most of the infantry roles can carry some form of anti-vehicle weaponry, including snipers that can damage armor from distance with "K bullets" and an anti-tank gun that fires like a sniper rifle.

Ground vehicles include three variations of tank: from a single seat light tank and two larger multi-crew tanks, each with three variations that generally "specialize" (or pigeon-hole) the vehicle. Visibility for all but the driver is terrible in each type, which makes riding in them dull. They're all quite slow and easy targets for the broad array of anti-vehicle weapons.

The planes are the worst aspect of this Battlefield iteration. Truly, this was a missed opportunity for DICE. Instead of creating polished air-to-air flight mechanics, it's mostly biplanes on rails. The lag in the code is so bad that planes often appear to cartwheel, warp or even fly backwards when pursued. There is no speed management required, and "dogfights" are just long, boring chases; no cutting, no switching. This is a shame, because it was in WWI that dogfighting was born. Unfortunately, it was an afterthought in this game.

There are three variations of aircraft, each with their own limited variations which force the player to choose air-to-air or air-to-ground. The former is essentially useless in its role, as the air to ground variants can hold their own against other aircraft. And other than the bomber and the attack plane's anti-vehicle role, they're all pretty harmless to the opponent. This is due in part to the inability to spot or see infantry. The flare mechanic for spotting infantry from the fighter's "trench fighter" role either doesn't work or is too watered down to be of use.

In short, most aircraft are only good for transporting a player across the map quickly. They have no impact on the ground situation and are easily destroyed by the AA guns sprinkled liberally around the maps.

If you like vehicles and played previous BF titles, especially 2, 3 and 2142, you'll be disappointed with DICE's weak efforts here. They have taken it a step further than they did with BF4, where widely available auto-guided, low-skill weapons ruined vehicle play. In this iteration, not only are anti-vehicle weapons widely available, the vehicles themselves have no teeth at all.

The only positive thing I can say about it is that it's graphically beautiful. But DICE has no monopoly on that these days. I'm so glad I only paid $60 for this; some paid $140 for it. But then, I learned that lesson in BF4. Never trust DICE or the so-called "Critcs". Save your money and buy something else.

BF1 is a fresh take on the Battlefield franchise. The new WWI setting is a really nice change of pace from the normal modern shooters the market is drowning in. Like the previous BF games this one encourages teamwork and tactics rather then just running down a hall 360noscoping people.

BF1 is a fresh take on the Battlefield franchise. The new WWI setting is a really nice change of pace from the normal modern shooters the market is drowning in. Like the previous BF games this one encourages teamwork and tactics rather then just running down a hall 360noscoping people.

The game looks fantastic, the mud that collects on your weapons after coming under fire from enemies is a really cool touch. The guns, for the most part, are pretty darn realistic to their real counterparts. The game is new and some need to be nerfed or buffed, but Dice is pretty good at doing that. The game feels full at purchase, at least it did for me.

Now before we get to multiplayer lets talk Campaign. BF1 tells the story of WWI from a number of different characters. The campaign's stories are great, though sadly there are no levels from the other side's point of view. I am hoping that the German guy aiming his rifle at the first character will turn out to be the narrator of some expansion campaign or something in the future, but that is not set in stone. The campaign for sure is Multiplayer training, each story teaches you different styles and tactics for playing online. There is a tank heavy campaign and a plane heavy campaign, that are both quite fun, engaging, and teach you how to use the war devices.

Multiplayer is great, I really have not had many issues with the launch of the game. A few guns are too OP at the moment and could a good nerfing, but the game plays very well. The maps are pretty fun. And the new objective mode is fantastic! If you have ever played Red Orchestra it is pretty much that game mode! Imagine a conquest where you really have to work together to push forward into enemy territory or push back the assaulting armies.

    PLAYABLE ARMIES:
    AMERICA
    ENGLAND (And it's buddies)
    ITALY

    GERMANY
    AUSTRO-HUNGARIAN
    THE OTTOMAN EMPIRE

I would like the ability to play other armies involved in WWI but with map packs and expansions in the future I assume that others will be in time.

OVERALL: I would recommend this game to anyone who is big into WWI. It brought me back to the age of classic shooters, and that in itself is amazing!

The multiplayer is lacking in content, too few weapons missing key weapons used in ww1 and instead substituting guns that were never used. The multiplayer is completely unbalanced, with planes being very overpowered along with tanks, the light machine guns being weak and the sniper (still) being the best class, with only them getting bolt action rifles (unlike in ww1). The maps are pretty poor, with many either turning into mortar spam or sniper spam, some are good, but the broken balance and OP elite classes really ruin those few good maps. No hardcore (aka the good game mode) on launch. The melee system is beyond broken, with your guy's feet becoming glued to the floor to enter a receiving of a bayoneting (several of which I have seen go through walls).

The game really comes off as lazy, the guns are TERRIBLE, the options are less than before, many of the game features are not explained or maybe nonexistent anymore!?! The battlefield companion is harder to use than battlelog, the servers didn't work at launch, and I bought the game a week after launch, and they were still down. Every gun is spray and pray, and while its WWI only the scout has a bolt action firearm. Ugh I should have give this game a 0. the battlepacks now give skins, so in case you love the casual overwatch, now you can have some of that nonsense in your BF as well. Anyway wait for the price to go down and then give it a try.

Look BF4 had a TON of issues, and it was complete garbage at release, yet I find this game to be less than BF4. I wonder if it is release issues again or not, thankfully there is now a refund option, and I have already got my money back on this very bad battlefield game. I am having a lot of fun with it, and the game looks and sounds amazing. Sadly though, the WW1 setting is being done injustice by having too many automatic weapons and having too fast of an infantry movement speed. This makes the gameplay very arcady and COD-like. The weapons and vehicles feel more like WW2 than WW1, and the gameplay is even faster than it was in the good old BF1942 back in the day. Still, it captures a lot of the fun that I used to have with BF1942 in a contemporary game. Just a shame that the developers are compromising the look and feel of WW1 to the mainstream. I wish they would have just made a WW2 game if they were going to put so many automatic weapons in it. Sure, they existed towards the end, but 95% of the war was fought with bolt-action rifles.

Special shout out to the Operations mode in multiplayer, which is less chaotic than Conquest, and is more of a simulation of real warfare, making you push towards enemy lines. Stringing together multiple maps in a narrative is a nice touch, and makes you actually learn something about the history of some of the WW1 campaigns.

I have not touched the singleplayer campaign much, but the cinematics and voice acting seem very good. Sadly again, the WW1 setting is being executed poorly in making you an invincible supersoldier (except for the intro sequence). I know its still a video game, but it would have been nice to have you rely more on squad cooperation to complete the missions, rather than gunning down whole armies Rambo-style. A missed opportunity.

Finally, the game is pretty buggy. Many people experience frequent crashes, judging by the forums, and DirectX12 doesnt work at all for me, and many people. At least it doesnt have major server problems like BF4 had, but it is still not great technically. Hopefully they will issue some major patches soon.

    PRO'S:
    - graphically amazing
    - sound design is great
    - Fun gameplay, Operations mode is great
    - Good amount of multiplayer maps
    - Campaign cinematics and voice acting are great

    CONS:
    - Buggy! (doesnt work at all in DirectX 12 mode for many people)
    - Movement speed is too fast, which makes it too COD-like.
    - WW1 is being done injustice by both single player and multiplayer gameplay.

Honestly, they say Battlefield1 because of WW1, but this is probably the biggest insult to all of the fallen soldiers in WW1 in terms of media coverage.

Honestly, they say Battlefield1 because of WW1, but this is probably the biggest insult to all of the fallen soldiers in WW1 in terms of media coverage. Gameplaywise its made for kids that play shooters with gamepads on console. I was looking forward to Battlefield5 but this is a huge letdown.

The graphics are excellent, the sound effects are top notch, the gameyplay is very good. Yet, Battlefield 1 is clearly a step backwards from BF3 and BF4. Features from previous games have been removed and there is an obvious lack of content. Where are the plethora of guns, equipment, assigmnemts and awards that the previous games had?

I miss the old set up where faction specific weapons for available right from the getgo, to add to the variety and ambience. Expect to get bored of this game really fast. It is made for casuals. This is a real review from a real gamer with standards unlike the casuals that continue to give perfect scores to Battlefield 1. This game has way too many flaws to be anything close to an 8 let alone a 10.

    Content:
The game lacks content. No hardcore. I dont care if it's delivered later. It should be in the game already. That's lazy and it smells just like the EA MODEL which is $$$$$$$. Progression is very slow and very unrewarding. Lack of customization. These dtails alone remove any 10/10 scores given to the game.

    Gameplay:
While new mode operations is a fun mix between rush and conquest it is still yet another sniper fest. Every map in almost all game modes encourages sniper play. Snipers are ROLFSTOMPING other players with martini henry. Medic is overpowered. Assault is basically a dummy. Support is completely useless.

The worse part is that the game get boring VERY FAST. Check out the official forums. Hundreds of players are reporting that they only play 1-2 hours and get bored. They love the game but that's all they play. That tells you right there the game was made for casuals. People that only put in a small amount of time into the game then get bored and move on.

Battlefield 1 is the most casual game ever made. For the love of God STOP comparing this game to bad company 2. Bad company 2 was a masterpiece. The best game in the series. The most balanced game in the FPS genre. Battlefield 1 is the most unbalanced, buggy, and casual game in the series.

    Gunplay:
The most terrible gun mechanics I have ever seen. You are more accurate running and hip firing then you are standing still. Guns give out pathetic damage and soldiers are bullet sponges eating it all up. Some guns have recoil EVEN BEFORE YOU FIRE THE FIRST BULLET. LMGs are completely worthless. I mean the list goes on and on.

    Map design:
Most maps are made for sniper play. Probably to cater to the COD crowd that moved on from call of duty.

    Skill:
Skill has been removed from the game. People are averaging Kill Death Ratios of over 20.00!!!! Unlike previous battlefields, the average player in BF1 will finish the game with a 67-2 kill/death. This game is extremely easy even for someone who just joined. I have been playing since the release of BF2. Battlefield games have always had a nice learning curve. You don't just walk in this game and are automatically good. That happens in BF1. Players are reporting that they were terrible players before but not they average high KDs. I, for example, have never liked snipers and I finished one game 43-1 as a sniper in BF1. I have always been a terrible sniper. And yet this happens? I doubt that other players suck that badly. No, the game is just too easy.

    Vehicles:
Light tank got nerfed into oblivion. Planes are useless and the AA gun is beyond overpowered. Its range reaches way across the maps!!!! Cavalry is still overpowered. You are shot with almost a full clip and you dont die but you swing your sword and you one shot kill your opponent LMFAO give me a break.

This game is AT BEST a 6/10. There's no way this is in the league of bad company 2 or BF2 or BF3 or even BF4. You guys reviewing this game giving it a 10/10 have ZERO standards. You've no idea what a good battlefield game is. If you did, you'd know that BF1 is absolute casual trash compared to games like BF2 and Bad Company 2.

+ A EA Game without Micro-transactions. I am not kidding. I was shocked too.

    Cons:
    - The Campaign is only 5 to 6 hours long and the Story parts have no connection at all. After the last Mission of every Part, it just pulls out and just throws some anti-war sentence at you.

    - There are very few Weapons and Gadgets. There are only 3 to 4 Weapons each with 2 to 3 variations, with seemingly no differences at all.

    - It is as close to WW1 as Wolfenstein was close to WW2. They used many experimental Weapons and there are nearly only automatic Weapons and only the Medic and the Sniper have semi-auto Weapons.

As I said above it is very atmospheric and makes a lot off fun, especially the Operations are fun to play.
But then again there are some Design choices which are very strange. It cannot be unseen that they took some things from Battlefront.

But above all means, the main reason why I think this game is basically perfection is because of its setting based in the times of WW1, and this game completely nails the time era with the variety of weaponry it has to offer, the visuals of the maps/model designs and the single player war stories. In my opinion, the war stories were amazing, yes they may of been rather short in length but they certainly had quality and quality always is better than quantity. Battlefield 1 definitely supplies the best single player campaign since Bad Company 2. However, the multiplayer is absolutely stunning and the is most certainly the best part in the game which is quite obvious, it's a bunch of fun, its engaging and its the best to play with your mates. In conclusion, Battlefield 1 is truly a badass video game and its one of my all time favorite shooters. It's definitely superior and creates major competition to any FPS games out in the market especially the "Call of Duty" series. Expand

They should have just called it battlefield 5. This is nothing more than a bf4 reskin.

Let me start off by expressing how dumbfounded I am that peopel are saying the single player is good or even decent. It is horrid, no worse and no better than bf3's and bf4's single player, an absolute embarrassment. The AI is pathetic, the stealth is primitive, but the level design is just bad.

It is horrid, no worse and no better than bf3's and bf4's single player, an absolute embarrassment. The AI is pathetic, the stealth is primitive, but the level design is just bad. And what a missed opportunity, the single player was a perfect opportunity for some authentic ww1 trench combat, yet you don't get it in a single mission, not even the intro one. The entire campaign feels like a 4 hour tutorial.

Another glaring issue is the mouse input. It feels like there's always a tiny delay to moving your mouse. It's not enough to stop you from aiming, just from aiming well. To make matters worse it feels like there's a tiny bit of acceleration no matter what.

I found the best way to play the game was to grab a shotgun, zig zag my mouse to dodge bullets with the absurdly high sprint speed, and kill as many people as I could before dying, re spawning and doing it again.

Doing anything but running around like a chicken with your head cut off is foolish, as movement speeds are high and so is your accuracy whilst moving, even with an lmg. Even when I'm sniping I never dare crouch or prone, as you seem to die the moment you stand still and try to play the game tactically.

Behemoths are a joke, especially in operations. Dice decided that instead of using good map design for balanced attack and defense gameplay like in bc2, they could just give the losing team a **** blimp. The blimp is basically a low flying ac130. If their are no tanks planes or aa guns (very likely as the defending side) you pretty much just have to let if kill you, or sacrifice the objective.

Speaking of maps, some of them are pretty bad. All of the desert maps are awful, especially suez, though fao fortress can be fun if you just feel like sniping with one hand and jerking off with the other. Let me reiterate though, Suez is perhaps one of the worst maps in ANY battlefield game. A hill placed on only one side of B means the Ottomans will pretty much always win. Nevertheless, 3 flags in a straight line should never be acceptable for 64 player conquest no matter what.

I'm giving this game a 0 even though it deserves a 3, but other reviewers are being far to generous since they immediately give a 10 to any pretty explosions.

The game was perfect at launch not like the disastrous launch of BF4.

The graphics are absolutely beautiful! There is a little lag sometimes but other than a few occurrences the game always looks stunning! Plus all the building destruction just adds to the realness of the game!

The multiplayer is great especially if you play with a full squad! You actually get rewarded for playing as a team and it is so satisfying! My favorite mode is the new addition called Operations where you battle the enemy team across multiple maps You play the round, win or lose, and then you move on to the next rounds until one team loses.

The reason i gave the game an 8 out of 10 is because of the campaign. I personally did not enjoy it. It is essentially 5 mini campaigns with 5 different characters and will take maybe 4-5 hours to beat. I felt that there was no emotional connection between myself and the character i was using and it just felt dull. I feel that this campaign could have been great if they focused it on one character in the trenches to show what trench warfare was all about and etc I feel there was a lot of wasted potential for the campaign. That is my personal feeling towards the campaign but there are probably others out there who loved it and that's great!

To sum it all up Battlefield I is a great game and I recommend this game to anyone who enjoys FPS games and is sick of the COD type games. If this game was based on multiplayer only it would be a solid 10 out of 10 but due to the lackluster campaign in my opinion that why the game doesn't hit that full rating.

The last thing i want to do is thank DICE and EA for listening to the fans and giving us a game we actually wanted to play!!!!

I'm amazed how the pure feeling of fighting and the whole atmosphere around WW I setting can make me so happy for hours. Looking you and your soldiers running through the trenches, while the enemy team is retreating from the fire from the airship, and a few minutes later looking at that same airship falling down in the middle of the map in a huge fireball is pure satisfaction... so cinematic!

Ok, ok... I get it, this game have great atmosphere, visuals and all that, but what about gameplay and felling while shooting, you may ask? I played all classes equally, maybe not support that much and I can say every class and guns have their place and time of use in the battlefield... you are in the trenches, take that shotgun or SMG and clear the sector, more open area, dominate with those bolt action rifles or medic guns (that can outplay snipers at medium-long range if you play it smart), what if you need to prevent enemies from pushing or taking certain sectors... take that LMG or mortar and do that.

I love that all classes now have some way of dealing with vehicles. You now don't feel powerless as a scout or medic when the tank shows up, because you can damage them... of course Assault is the main anti-vehicle class... but it feels good when you can stop tanks from repairing with K bullets and help your teammates take that metal devil faster. Also elite classes, they are debatable. I'm fine with flamethrower, tank hunter and cavalry class, as they have their role and are more acceptable than those two terminator guys. Because, beside more damage resistance they are not that much useful, and stray away a little from WW I tone.

Speaking of vehicles they feel powerful as they should, but if you approach them right and with the good teamwork they can be dealt with. I'm not a great pilot, so I didn't spend much of my game time in the air, but the thing I love about planes, is that they now require coordination and teamwork (except when you are in a fighter plane), because you wont last long if you are alone in the bomber.
Same thing with tanks, you have Light tank, Landship and Heavy tank aka indestructible spawn beacon :D and they can deal a lot of damage if you use them right and vice versa. And I would say to have them on the battlefield (playing with them or vs them) is more balanced and enjoyable experience than compared to BF3.
Oh what about behemoths and horses? SO MUCH FUN... especially horses, who are not there just for historical reasons, as they can do a lot of damage to infantry if you catch them in the open. Behemoths are great addition and give more depth to the gameplay, but I think they need some balancing.

What is a good game without good maps and modes right? And I can just say I'm in love with all maps, with Monte Grappa being my favorite (because it reminds me of my village, minus the fortress :D ). They are trully amazing and have great atmoshpere, with all the different parts and areas that favors one gameplay over the other, dynamic weather that can change a flow of the game, great job Dice. Also we get the new game mode, Operations, that became instant classic for players, thou it needs some balancing in terms of number of attack and behemoths, because it's easier to defend and win the operation, due to fact that it takes across 2 maps.

Damn, there is so much to talk about and I'm over 4000 characters...

I think I covered basic thinks that I liked about games, now some thinks that I don't like, or have mixed feelings, and hope they would get fixed/rebalanced/added...

More guns please! Yea, we have a lot of guns on the list, but in fact it's 4-5 weapons in each class with different variant (different, scope, better hipfire etc.). I can't said I'm bored of current guns, but having a more options to choose from is a plus for me. Give us a little more customization options (I'm not talking about cosmetics), I know it's not that accurate in terms of history, but If we can have Terminators in game, why can't we have a few extra iron sights options? Where are Russia, France... and Yugoslavia, where all of this started? Singleplayer is good at moments but it's short and don't have time to develop, It's a shame, because it had potentials.
Give us option to change and customize loadouts in menu, not just in browser or in game.
Battlepacks are good addition especially when you don't have to pay real money for them but more skins and craftable weapons would be nice.

I'm out of characters so here is my closing.

Great game with amazing atmosphere and satisfying gameplay that will keep you entertained for hours. Truly the most fun I had in a multiplayer game... for a long time!

These people complaining are absolutely insane. I've played 1942, Vietnam, the remaster of 1942, 2142, battlefield 2, 3, and 4. Battlefield 1 is the best game out of the series by far. Haven't had this much fun with a Dice game since 1942. GAME OF THE YEAR. It will be flawless after some more patches polish and smooth the rough edges.

It's Battlefield. Again. World War I my ass... Automatic weapons... It's fun, but not unique. Buy it at a discount if you have to, as there's no difference between this and Battlefield 4. Unfortunate disappointment.

Better than Bad Company 2 ! Amazing optimalization. While on the subject of multiplayer, this is quite simply the best it’s ever been, and the best multiplayer shooter of this generation. DICE has always been known for its excellent large-scale warfare, but something about it being set in The Great War makes every single encounter matter that much more.

Very engrossing and exhilarating multi-player. Several modes, including the new mode, add lots of variety.
Great graphics stay steady capped at 60 fps, even on medium end computers. Grit of WW1 shines through both modes. Not watered down for PC!

The best multiplayer shooter to date, very polished. I was worried I would be disappointed in the guns with all the awesome attachments and scopes etc I'm used to but I was not let down. The graphics are amazing and for the first time I might not get CoD

Too many snipers (30-90% at all times) and no ranking system. Origin doesn't even launch any more so have to start the game from chrome. If they put it on steam and limit snipers to 5% maximum Ill raise my review by 6 points.

I am an avid PC gamer, and have tried almost every shooter under the sun, for some reason, this game has really stuck chord in me. The gameplay is exactly how we would expect from a BF game, and although the nature of the weapons make them less precise than their modern counterparts, it seems they are finely tuned and are very rewarding to master.

I also to want to mention how incredibly well optimized this game is. I have a 1070, and an i7 4790k, and obviously play on ultra without breaking a sweat, but the GF has an older gen i5, and an HD radeon 6900 series, and is able to play on low at ~60fps. I honestly have no idea how they pulled it off. It's miraculous. I would contend that the game is possibly the most well optimized game, pound for pound, that has been released in the last 9 years.

My only advice is to try the game.
Well written stories, best i can remember in a game.
Multiplayer needs balancing mostly on sniper cap. ( that is one of the main reasons i didnt give a 10)

I was a bit on the fence when I played the BETA, I'm not sure why they picked the worst map for that. After seeing the reviews and picking up the game, I can say it's by far the best BF game yet! The 4 distinct campaigns are fantastic, and the new multiplayer gamemode "Operations" is the best thing to ever happen to the BF series.

Has DICE made the Great War Great again? Well, it's certainly delivered a fresh-feeling shooter in a very saturated market. But the missing modes are felt. [Issue#257, p.58]

Battlefield is back in shape and more so with fresh theme of the first Great War! After a long time, the campaign is successful and multiplayer is traditionally excellent. So, this year your choice is set! [Issue #269]
