I like the original idea of making a WW1 game, but the execution is very poor. The game hardly has anything to do with WW1. Its still a fun game, but inferior to BF3 and BF4. Go play those games instead if you want to have fun for a longer period, the servers are still full in those games

Sure enough, 45 kills 10 deaths. So you bite that bullet. No instant replay of character death? Check. Hackers galore? Check. Way to see if someone is legit playing without a shatton of outside apps? Nope. Why would they check for hackers at this point? I mean BFV is on it's way, why even give a flock for current IP? Suckers will pay, suckers always pay. Anyway, buy it for the Single Player. Multiplayer is Call of Duty with vehicles and overpowered Iron Mans running around. Nothing more.

Zero tactics, everyone is running around like a headles chicken,
you kill, you die, you kill, you die.

No room for vehicles as the maps are way too small, with invisible walls EVERYWHERE!

And don't forget the ugly lensflares covering your screen!
    Can't deactivate them.

The Hipster-designer who thought covering half the screen with unrealistic and oversized Hollywood-lensflares should just stop working on games forever.

A good looking shooter with a gameplay that was designed for casual players. Forget about teamplay, you won't get any. Forget about recoil paterns, Dice decided to use a random pattern generator instead. Fun to play sure, but miles away from what BF3 and BF4 were.

But in a game so heavily reliant in its multiplayer experience its a shame we run into the same problems which hurt the previous installments. Mass grenade spam, spotting system an unbalance in vehicles, with short respawn times to have you question why it is you even attempt to destroy them. Most frustrating of all being planes vs infantry, as unless you're next to an AA gun, there's not a lot to be done.. other than explode.

The 64 player mode Conquest lends itself great in the more open maps, where others smaller in size can feel like a meat grinder, where you can find each team at either end of a choke point. To then be pushed back to deployment where LMG's sit stationed with bi-pods and ammo crates.
This problem could easily be fixed with map specific player counts.

The game in its current state and most likely final state as we await the release of bf5, is pure chaos. Its a shame it doesn't cater to the competitive scene.

This game has been out for almost a year and already has so much DLC but the fact that I'm still experiencing regular glitches/server issues is just unacceptable. The lack of coop in the campaign is also very disappointing considering the let down of the BF4 campaign. Overall, the game feels fun but that never lasts longer than a round or two because of the ugly flaws.

Was not impressed with the Beta for Battlefield 1 because the Medic kit did not work, problems with shooting through transparent surfaces so I held out to buy the game. It was on offer on Origin for £18 for the Revolution version reduced from £60 so i thought i would give it a chance. Spent a few days playing it and i was wrong to have gave it a chance. The Medic kit is still flawed although not as bad as the beta. You pop up from behind a hill and shoot and hit a transparent wall where your bullets ricochet off thin air, you lay down 2 feet behind the hill and the enemy some how manage to shoot you through the hill. They have tried to force players to use the Medic Kit by forcing you and your dead body to hang around or if you want to skip, you have to hold your space button for 5 seconds. So you wait and then the camera flies in and out giving you constant head aches zooming in and out of a map. Because of the problems with Battlefield 4 auto spawning in front of enemies, they now spawn you 15 miles away from the action. So you spend a few minutes getting to the action, get sniped instantly, forced to wait 5 seconds, zoom head ache, pick a spawn point, another zoom head ache, run 15 miles, dead, forced to wait, zoom head ache.. Repeat. The game is a chore to play and the worst battlefield ever.. steer clear.. Expand

BF1 and games like these that have been dumbed down so much that they are becoming the 'reality shows' of the gaming world. Let's be honest now, a casual player generally plays for the first month or two but after a while they leave it for the next shiny thing while they leave the game to the rest of us, ...in a broken, half-assed state lacking many features and introducing many unwanted ones.

You have no idea how it pains me to see where BF is going. Thousands of hours that I put in into BF42, BF2 and all the way up to BF4. From a long time fan this hurts.

Pretty graphics but no soul, you know... similar to games that have sold out to the casual crowd like Fallout 4, Diablo 3 etc. Quantity over Quality will be the downfall of this series and the gaming industry including DICE. Yes dumbing down a game to get more people to purchase your game is a great business decision at first but in the long run it will be death to a series that one cherished and loved.

It's sad to say but Battlefield has lost its core roots. So much for Battlefield to continue having a special unique identity ...at least it used to have one.

New introduction of weapon balance overhaul is inappropriate in the sense of timing and execution. Instead of re-balancing selected overused weapons, DICE opted to completely overhaul the performance of nearly all weapons being this close to the end of product cycle, causing mass confusion and introduced a lot more issues than they intended to fix in the first place.

Poor balance and domination of aircraft and tanks. If in the past parts one engineer could destroy the tank at a long distance. Now the anti-tank gun deals funny damage. The repair of armored vehicles is too fast. Aircraft can be brought down only from a stationary antiaircraft gun. Therefore, if your team does not have experienced pilots, then the enemy in the sky will feel invulnerable. Damage from anti-aircraft guns is too small and has a limited shooting pleasure. Poor customization of weapons. In fact, we have one weapon and 3 its modifications. Interesting? No! In the past, you could customize weapons as you like

    - The "Rock, paper, scissors" gun scheme has absolutely ruined the game : 64 players mandatory + automatic weapon high recoil don't help

    - Level progression is not rewarding (it should be more obvious when you level up, etc)

    - Boring slow tanks gameplay with limited visibility (same for boats, planes, even horses are not as fun as motorcycles in BF4)

    - No custom server at launch, then useless custom servers since admins can't change much

    - Most expansive game ever (160$ CAD for Game + Premium)

    - Too many bad maps, especially since tanks are boring : Suez, Fao Fortress, Sinai Desert

    - No real great maps (while Amiens and St. Quentin's Scar are OK)

    - Feels more like Battlefront 2 than BF5

edit : 6 months later, I've played it for the free 10 hours, players population has dropped but it's still OK, the DLCs have been slowly released but they made a few improvements to the game that makes it a little better

edit : 12 months later, the player population continued to drop, now only 25k on PC compared to 15k for BF4 currently, I wanted to try the new game mode Incursions (beta), waited for 10 minutes to get in a game but not enough player so I left then I come back and get a warning for "abandoning matches" ... come on EA ...

I think this could have been a really special single player experience if it actually was the length of a proper campaign. Some of the missions involving stealth, capturing points and infiltrating bases work exceptionally well, and are really fun to play - the shame is the fact there are so few of these its almost insulting and disappointing.

Multiplayer, Loot crates for skins...roughly 90% of the playerbase has moved on to Battlefront 2 so unless you pick this up for free, or as part of the EA All Access program, then simply don't bother.

#Vivre_Ensemble.

Of course, I pre-ordered it. Well, I've played BF 1 for a few months now. Less than a year tho. But I'm disappointed.

The servers are too often laggy. Some classes (let's say Medic) have been nerfed but offer more stability and shooting rate than any sniper rifle. 2-3 bullets are usually enough to kill anybody.

Still, the snipers lack anti-tank means. The K Bullets deal almost zero damage, and you can't carry more than 6.

But that's not what disappoints me the most. It's not the lags. Not the messed up netcode. Not the never-banned cheaters you come accross sometimes. Not the lack of weapon customization. No.

What really pisses me off is the fact that I pre-ordered an empty, unfinished game and paid 60 € (yes, I'm European) for it. To get the Standard Edition. The fact that you can now buy the Revolution Pack for the same price and get a full Premium Access to the game.
And that, if I want to play the DLC, I get to pay 50 more **** €.

Why, EA ? Just WHY are you punishing your trusty fans ?

The community is dying. Battlefield 1 is dying. Players are deserting the game... and still, you won't offer us the ability to benefit the "Premium Friends" access to the new DLCs. Or even the ability to just pay, let's say.. 5 or 10 more € to get a Premium Pass. Nah.

Well, let's hope for you that you don't **** up with Battlefront 2. Coz this will be the LAST time I offer you a chance to NOT disappoint me.

Considering I've played every game since Battlefield 1942...

Normally the lure of DLC might bring me back however with Battlefield 1 "Revolution" EA takes a massive dump on the day 1 players. Im all for GOTY editions however usually with a GOTY edition the existing player base has already played the content in it. Thats not the case here, anyone who was unfortunate enough to purchase a season pass with their copy of the game on launch (thankfully I did not after playing the beta I had my suspicions of the looming turd Dice was about to drop) has only received 1 piece of the DLC promised. Now for half the cost anyone else can get that and all subsequent DLC for a fraction of the price. (as I mentioned, Im all for GOTY editions once all content has been released and the loyal players have been given what they paid for in good faith). Judging by the number of active PC players less than 50k per month, this was clearly a last ditch attempt to inject some life blood into the player base or to put it another way, bleed more money from potential players.

I cant imagine any future Battlefield titles will have anything of more depth to offer, the franchise of old is well and truly dead. Go buy COD like everyone else.

Battlefield 1 is easily the strongest Battlefield release since the likes of Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 2 way back in the early 2000's, but don't be fooled by the First World War setting. If you've played (and didn't enjoy) the past few Battlefields, this is essentially a very similar game, only adapted for a historical setting.

I really enjoy the First World War setting of the game.

As a lover of history, it's a period that really doesn't get enough focus outside of the realms of dreary English Literature classes that focus on poetry. Battlefield 1 expands the vision of the First World War, focusing on more than just the muddy trenches of France and Belgium and depicting fighting across the world. This diversity give the game a great variety of colour palettes and maps. However, this game is NOT a realistic depiction of the First World War in any way. It borrows the uniforms, conceptual weapons and settings of the period, but it feels more like a multiplayer sequel to Bioshock Infinite than anything. If you want a realistic First World War shooter, pick up Verdun.

Graphically, the game is very strong. Colour palette diversity aside, everything looks very crisp. The character and vehicle models are beautifully done, and many of the levels start with an almost idyllic landscape that quickly degenerates into a war torn hell as a game goes on. To top this all off, the game is insanely well optimised. Using a 2012 i5 CPU and an R9 290 GPU, I was able to clock around 50-60 FPS during intense firefights with Ultra graphics.

The sound design and direction is also brilliant. There are varying filters put over the sounds of gunfire and shouting depending on the environment. Shots in external fields areas ring off mountainsides in the distance, gunfights in houses have a thudding bass to them, and rainswept trenches give off an eerily muted sound. In addition to some brilliant sounds for the weapons, it lends a great authenticity to proceedings.

The gameplay-- whilst very much still a Battlefield game-- has gone through a revision to adapt it to the period. This has been met with mixed success. The main improvement is that the infantry combat in the game is the best the series has ever seen, a necessity given the move away from combined arms to primarily infantry combat with the odd vehicle. Vehicles are rarer but have much more impact due to the fewer means for infantry to destroy them. Previous Battlefield games always suffered from vehicle combat becoming it's own game and ignoring the actual battle being played out. The main failing of DICE on this outing was the questionable balancing of the class equilibrium. The loss of the assault rifle hasn't really been compensated for. Assault rifles in FPS games serve a very distinct purpose in gameplay. They are a jack of all trades, master of none weapon that are capable of engaging at all ranges. They ensure that SMG and Shotgun users don't wipe out swathes of people by keeping them out of range and they stop snipers getting comfortable. Without a range of mobile mixed ranged automatic weapons, changes should have been made. Without them, close quarters combat has become incredibly chaotic whilst snipers can only really be countered by cover or other snipers.

The issue of balance is sidelined by the actual end product of all the effort DICE have put into the game though. Many minute to minute moments of mulitplayer combat could almost pass as scripted set pieces due to the dramatic feel of everything. For example, earlier today I was rushing a point with a few friends. As we approached the point, an enemy light tank appeared and fired at us. I dived into a house with two friends, only for another tank shell to blow the side of the house off and leave me stunned and wounded. At this point, an enemy soldier ran in with a shotgun to finish us off, only for my friend to kill him with a knife. The lighting cast the killing in shadows on the wall and it looked great.

As usual, some modes work and others don't. Strangely, Conquest-- the staple of the series-- is probably one of the weakest modes on offer here. There never really feels like a frontline and games quickly degenerate into chaotic sprints from point to point. Frontlines and Operations are easily the best ways to play the game, and are luckily quite populated. These modes focus on only two points at a time, similar to Team Fortress maps like Dustbowl. It encourages teamwork and gradual progression across the map. and ensures that firefights are coherent but intense.

Finally, the single player is not great. Although it has much more heart than the modern plots, most stories are only two chapters long and fall back on tired storytelling tropes. It doesn't even serve as a means to learn how to play the multiplayer game as two campaigns feature vehicle combat that plays out vastly differently to the multiplayer and one focuses on stealth mechanics that are absent from the multiplayer.

Music - excellent, graphics - excellent. The game itself is ok but there are not enough servers with constant new DLC dividing the community even further so need to wait to play on a Sunday afternoon.

Yes the hell with them DLC, I took the Premium in BF3 and BF4, but here you in the standard version generally have nothing don't give as if you bought a demoversion. The balance is terrible too, beginning from the mechanics of firing, it is simpler than in COD to a netcode. There are no servers too, a ping big - >80. I can carry to pluses only a graphics, a sound and a setting. From a setting also I took a game on start what I am sorry about. Expand

    CAMPAIGN MODE REVIEW:

    Best In Game Campaign I have ever played and Followed by a Strong, Versatile and Emotional tipped story line. The detail Study done by game creators and analysts have simply created a marvel';
For Example: The Ottoman Armored train shown is precisely similar to the Actual one making it visually great to see a structure like which would have been a gigantic piece of destruction.

Back to campaign, its Simply addictive, you choose your own Story mode is also great, UNLIKE other FPS Campaigns where the Creators want Gamers to Go where they want and Follow Long Stretched Stories sticking to a single HERO of the game which in real time do not happen.
You choose your own story mode, play and if want to switch for a change, you can do that anytime switching chapters.

    KEY POINTS:

    - Immersive Game Play
    - GRAPHICAL TREAT with Great Visuals
    - STUNNING gameplay
    - Best Action Shooter
    - Real Time Effects and AI

    Only CON:
    - Short Story / Campaign
    - Nothing else
    ----------------

    MULTIPLAYER MODE:

From My Experience and Years of gameplay since battlefield 1942' The multiplayer has done a lot and even in previous games, EA tried to bring something new always,

With a lot of great game modes, EA has done a good job with good multiplayer and nice battlepacks coming along.

Only Con for multiplayer is the Drops received After hours of gameplay, i guess the Owners should give away battle-drops often instead of taking a chance and giving away a single pack after hours of gameplay multiplayer mode.

    Apart from this , its a Visual marvel from the Battlefield Franchise, Keep Going EA;

Not feeling it for Battlefield 1. Looks good but the gameplay is lacking. It tries to force emotions and fails miserably. And what's with the black dude? I'm not racist but it feels like Dice shoehorned them in to be PC. It's kind of insulting to black and white people. Black people didn't start WWI and a lot more white people died than black. Overall, its just not an entertaining game.

Good single player campaign. I enjoy it very much. I don't play the multiplayer aspect of it so no comment there. It is on sale on Playstation so for about $22 definitely worth it.

Great but awfully over hyped Battlefield game. The game looks and runs pretty good, I should've been able to play on ULTRA with my gtx 970, but just because I don't have an i7 processor but an i5 4690k it stutters when buildings are collapsing :/ Considering the game is not really that good looking (looks good because of some kind of filter and post effects), I will say I'm disappointedGreat but awfully over hyped Battlefield game. However, the game is lacking in terms of content, only 9 maps on release day and the 10th was added later (EA is fooling people to believe they are releaseing free DLC to make them stand out as angels). Way too few weapons, and the LMG's are like sniper rifles. The game sold well because of hype surrounding the WW1 setting (which is FAR from historically correct anyway...). The campaign takes 2-3 hours to beat and it's nothing special, only there because it had to have something...

But the worst part is Premium friends. I bought premium pass to be able to play all the new maps, since I got bored of the old ones after 30 hours. Now (after me and thousands of others have bought it already) EA announces Premium friends, which means that if one friend in your party owns premium, everyone in that party will be able to play all the premium maps. As you might hear, I feel ripped off.

If you buy the basic edition, you're going to get screwed over by the premium pass. This game will cost you at minimum $80 if you want to fully enjoy it, and if you don't pay that, you're going to be stuck in matches with 7-10 people, because- Surprise, no one plays the basic maps when the new ones release.

-An insane game mechanic called "Behemoths" these are basically crutches the game will give to the losing team, often stealing a victory away from a deserving team
-A decent amount of historical mistakes in the campaign and campaigns

    Conclusion
While this game can be very fun and immersive at times, you will get burnt out fairly quickly (especially if you're a long time Battlefield fan). There are times where you will just be pissed due to how the game will absolutely screw you for performing well, so if your team is well coordinated and do well, your opponents will be granted with a boon in the form of a map stomping death machine. The effect this can have on a map is immense, as usually there are tools that are on a map that help you deal with said threat. Some maps don't give you anything and you just get stomped because you simply did better than you opponent. Thus I can't give this game a good review, sadly, I must give it poor marks.

Buy it on sale if you can

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I wanted to buy the game, but a little voice told me it was a waste of money. Then i heard from others that the game is great, awsome and so on. Then a little voice told me; perhaps it is a great game everybody seems to like it.

Personally i think battlefield 1 is so great because of the marketing. But that is not important.
A few weeks ago I was able to play the game for 10 hours. I downloaded the game and was finaly ready to see if BTF 1 is a good game or not. I started out with the single player, running a gtx 1070 and having a 144hz screen i soon found out that my 500 euro card would not get 144fps. Not even on the lowest settings did i get a good framerate. But well most people play on 60 hz, so they can play on high or above without problems with a gtx 1070. Still i feld cheated by dice, that they
wouldn t let the 144hz people who like FPS games play a match on the lowest settings and not even hit 144 frames per second, unless they buy a ( GTX 1080)800 euro card.

But still with you're 60 hz screen you're good to go. So i lowered my screen to 75 hz, and it was good. Well not the game but the frames per second. Oke after getting the settings right i could go on with that great single-player.
I must have done something wrong because after 10 or 20 minutes i still waited for the single player to begin, yes i played some stupid soldier who was shooting at some other stupid soldier and then got shot, and then i played another stupid soldier who got shot. Really i think i am stupid, because i couldn t tell if i was playing the campaign or not, it was that boring. i fellt the need to play the multiplayer.
I started up the multiplayer and spawned in to some desert. My first thought was; well this is a boring map, and guess what it was freakingly boring. i started out in a tank shooting some other player. I didn't think wow this is cool, no i thought WOW this is so boring oh my GOD, it is 10 times worse then BTF4 (btf4 was a 6 at most).

Well it is not 10 times worse then BTF4, but thats what i was thinking when i was playing BF 1. So i played some more rounds, and really the game did nothing for me. It s the same as the other BF games, only now i am in wo 1. I was playing a game that was really old, and was cranked up with some new graphics. EA/Dice must be laughing, that people still buy there outdated boring BF games, and think that it is something new. Perhaps it was fun many many years ago, but for me not anymore. I am guessing that a lot of people bought the game because of the good advertising ea/dice knows how to bring, and they play it because ??? well i don't know.

Really you don't have to buy the game. You're not missing out on anything. The only thing you're missing out on is spending money on a boring multiplayer game. i must admit, if nothing is happening for say 30 seconds i get bored and then i lose my concentration. But even that is not the reason i found bf 1 boring, it just is.
