This is definitely a title made with a lot of love and attention to detail, and while it’s hardly a flawless production, I think it’s worth checking out for people who sit on either side of the fence. If you’ve always wanted to love a Soulslike title but never quite got there, this might help get you over the hump; if you love them but don’t mind something being a bit more Souls-lite, this will delight you. It’s not going to make it on to my short list of worthy Game of the Year contenders, but it’s a solid outing all around, and that’s not nothing.

Despite its difficulty not fitting the soulslike expectation, Asterigos: Curse of the Stars manages to be a phenomenal entry, as long as you don't come in expecting challenging gameplay.

Asterigos: Curse of the Stars is just plain fun. It's a solid, enjoyable and well put-together action-adventure game where my biggest complaints are largely nitpicks and a few qualms about the exploration. Sure, you can point to various things it was inspired by, but it manages to stand out on its own merits, and it's an enjoyable experience. The distinct art style and combat help it define itself, and the story is engaging enough to keep you interested. It's well worth a look if the concept remotely interests you.

Asterigos: Curse of the Stars offers a lengthy adventure with a well-thought and diverse combat system that sits somewhere between the high challenge of soulsborne and the ease of a hack ‘n slash. It’s only marred down by some bad design decisions (like the absence of fast travel until halfway through), which could be avoided if -maybe- some more testing was done.

While Asterigos has excellent graphics and music, basic elements like the combat system feel cheap, making the package as a whole feel like an unbalanced Soulsborne title.

Asterigos: Curse of the Stars had the potential of being one of the most exciting ARPGs influenced by the Souls series, with its ancient Greek and Roman influences, cartoonish art style, unique approach to story choices, and a more gamey approach to combat and character customization. Sadly, it falls flat mostly due to the mediocre level design. If you can look past this significant issue, however, you'll find a decent enough game with an acceptable story and serviceable combat with some interesting twists.

For what is the debut creation of a small indie studio, Asterigos: Curse of the Stars is quite the impressive feat, and the team behind it should be proud of what has been accomplished here. A very good video game, however, this is not. Combat and generally the controls are good, the developer worked really hard to provide tons of world building, the whole thing looks pretty, and everything works as intended…but it’s just not that exciting. Almost everything on offer here sits exactly in the middle of the fun factor spectrum. It’s an okay game that lasts about 40 hours.

In short, this game is definitely worth playing for any action game fan in general (not just soulslike) but it's not 10/10. I gave it 10 toIn short, this game is definitely worth playing for any action game fan in general (not just soulslike) but it's not 10/10. I gave it 10 to offset all the rated 0 reviews from idiots who keep complaining about the key bindings which I am pretty sure will be fixed very soon by the dev team. Given this is from a indie Taiwanese dev, it's actually more fun and polished than many action games I have played recently (Soulstice, Valkyrie Esylum) Expand

This is for sure one of the better souls-likes. I do not care about the story or the at times cringe dialog.

    I recommend playing it on

I recommend playing it on hardest and choosing gamepad layout C as a Souls player. I had my challenge with some bosses so far. Fighting system feels great and is fun.

The backtracking and Side quests are annoying to me without a map and a quest marker. This game is not so serious, and therefore it should not copy all the souls tropes IMO.

Imagine playing this kind of game without a gamepad and giving it a 0 rating because you can not rebind keys. Seriously! And BTW, you can use steam to rebind EVERYTHING, no need for the game to support it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Asterigos was a fun game. The story was interesting. It touch immortality and slavery. I though the theme of immortality wasn't explored enough. No real humour in here. There is fast travel but it is given too late in the game, and that was an odd decision on how it was given. It makes some items completely useless. There was many secrets, I have unlock some of them but the side quests system and navigation makes thing difficult to complete.

The combat is smooth but then, I only develop two weapons to the max. In that aspect, the upgrade system is really based on the weapons and elemental powers. I don't recommend you try to level everything. The graphics are pretty cool. I think the design of levels however, were way too complicated. It is hard in the first levels to know where to go. When Minerva gives you a second sets of 4 missions, I had to look on the internet on how to get to those areas. So, the game does a poor job at that. The music was good. Sounds effects were decent. I give it 72%. If it wasn't for the hurdle and pain of navigating certain levels, the game was fun to explore and play (with a controller). The ending was good, but it finish with 2d slides...like they didn't have the time to finish it. That was abrupt and surprising in the wrong way.

-repetitive combat, little enemies type, stupid enemy ai, interesting story but boring long dialogs, they give u teleport late game and bad glory ending.

-side quests hard to navigation and must remember what they said there's no side quests list to remember. -good content, u have 6 different weapon type, good main and secret bosses.

    the game is alright

the gameplay and fluidity of the weapon swapping are great but that is about it

the story is alright nothing you havent seen before but certainly not AAA material or even AA

the worst thing about the game is you have to go to a loading screen go up to the storage chick to get any items you have used so far

and than go back through another loading screen

this is simply unacceptable and there should be no reason to not just fill up your items on death instead of this horrible system and I'm willing to say whoever thought this was a good idea should be fired/never work in gaming again

before you say "git good" everything isn't very hard and its actually quite easy at times but stiff movements from enemies and walking mundane like towards you while also being janky as hell is not a good way to make a game
