The style, the world, the culture is just gorgeous. Big props to those who created this world and filled it with so many content. Sometimes you dont want to run till your next destination, but just climb the building and watch the city from above or walk in the streets. The animations are also quite awesome comparing to the previous parts. The plot is OK, dont expect any jawdropping story that will change your life forever, but its interesting to follow the characters story and overall Arno is a cool character.
And now what completely ruined the game for me - BUGS. This game supposed to reboot the franchise to attract new people into the franchise and keep the fans playing. What I got in the release date is a game full of bugs and glitches. I tried to close my eyes on them, but untill this date the game is still full of bugs. Jumping hair, not stable FPS, NPC glitches and the worst part - Arno getting stuck in the middle of air, on the side of the buildings. I got tired of those bugs so much, that i completely lost interest to play the game, because I would know that every time I launch the game those problems keep spoiling all the fun.
Thanks to such technical performance I will from now on think twice whether to buy a Ubisoft game at all and I recommend you to do the same. I hoped that Ubisoft will fix their problems after Watch Dogs, but I was wrong unfortunately. I hope that next time their performance will be better, because its a pitty that a fan of the series loses interest to play the game because its awful technical performance.

the french speak with an english accent, the character are forgettable and the city feels gray and it doesn't have any appeal whatsoever..

Avoid this game, don't support the **** ubisoft is trying make with it's microtransactions that don't even work. Unpleasant to play, Fighting is unresponsive and the game itself is a Mess and a big F U to those who had faith on the dying(yearly) franchise that is Ass in creed.

Perhaps its because i waited before i ever started playing it, maybe its the patches, idk. Alls i know is that unity is working fine for me and i am really enjoying it. There is so many times i find myself admiring the screen. The graphics have really really great looking moments that are rare in an open world game. A lot of polish but there are some not pretty things to. But it is easily forgivable cause there are just as much stunning. i love games that impress and if you have specs enough to play on ultra, this one sure will.

I really think this will be the last time I am tricked by Ubisoft unless the next one gets rounds of 9's and 10's and is certified bug free. Therefore, I'll likely never play another Assassin's Creed in my lifetime.

AC-B was, with all its shortcomings, an enjoyable game and an adequate vehicle for dramatic storytelling. Alas, Ubi, you've long since ran out of stories to tell, and your idea of entertainment is every bit as vague as the collision detection of your graph engine. Your PC code is horribly optimized, if at all. Your mocap is a century behind average. You got history as your playground and all you can come up with is rehashed content thinly disguised by a new cityscape. The man-hours behind it do not convert that well to creativity, Ubi. You'll always have Paris - now what about a game to make justice to it?

Seriously now. 10ers, do you really enjoy games that play you instead of letting you play them? ACU does just that. It never gives you any real freedom of movement or choice. You do the one thing it expects you to do... or start over until you get it right. We're mashing buttons so that the creators of this pretty but clumsy idiot of a game can have their amusement. I do not mind your ridiculous Uplay, Ubi, nor your micro-transactions... as long as I feel your commitment to give me some honest-to-god entertainment in return.
It won't work while your 'quantity equals quality' mindset rules paramount and the console crowd thinks your antics are the new literature. Still, a shame you're not even trying anymore.

5 out of 10, just because we used to be friends.
Do not buy this, boys and girls - it contains about as much Paris as Les Miserables and will make you feel like them, too.

Sadly, four or more months after release, this game is still a hot mess of bugs. I waited, knowing the game was buggy at launch, purchasing it over a week ago. Between the graphical glitches, getting stuck on walls, random freezes, random controller drop outs… I just.

I want to like this game. Hell, I want to PLAY this game. But this game is doing everything in it's power to stop me.

Oh and why not for good measure have random time freezes.

At least I didn't experience the horrible frame rates everyone else complains about, but the game is still incredibly buggy, the combat and platforming are enraging and the storyline is dull. This competes with 3 as the worst game of the series.

No matter the developer, all games contain many bugs upon release. This should be clear to most gamers and therefore I think it's uncalled for to complain about these things and give the game a 0 solely because it has many bugs... especially when it comes to a game with such an incredibly big and detailed world. I almost put off buying it because of all the negative reviews and the general hate towards ubisoft. I'm glad I bought it to see what it really is for myself.

In my opinion, it's nothing short of a masterpiece. The world and the graphics are truly breathtaking. I can happily say it's the prettiest game I've played so far. The story and the characters are also well thought-out in comparison to AC: Black Flag, which for me had nothing to do with the AC series and I believe it to be the worst game in the franchise. The kiddies loved it though, so maybe I'm just getting old and enjoy in-depth games.
To the people who complain about it being too hard - have you even played the first AC game? If you think the Unity combat system is complicated and hard to master, please be my guest and grab Altair's AC. I for one, gladly welcomed the changes because I'm sick of the brainless one-button mashing which I saw in AC 3 snd AC IV...
The parkour elements have also been changed for the better, making it essier to navigate Arno.

Customization has been brought to a whole new level. One can spend quite some time 'pimping' the looks of his/her hero to their liking.

Paris is simply put massive. It's a virtual world bustling with life, having thousands of NPCs going about their daily life. It took me one hour to get to my mission which was 300 meters away because I got caught up in the side activities... which are hundreds and I find happen to be very fun!

Coop is truly epic playing with friends. All the missions have replay value because there are many different ways to approach them. Infiltrating buildings can also be done in a variety of ways and nevef gets boring.

All in all, an amazing game. It's unfair that people are bashing it because it's 'poorly optimized'. I simply cannot agree with us. Yes, the game does need a high-end gaming rig but all this info was posted multiple times not only online but on the back of the game case. I can't understand how people think they can run next-gen titles on their 5 year old computer when nowadays even having a computer from 2011 is considered outdated. If you don't meet the system requirements then don't get these games or invest in a console. I can play AC:Unity with no major fps drops at Ultra High Settings, HBAO+, soft shadows and MSAA-2 anti aliasing on my R9 280X.

If you have the rig for it and like the original AC games (I don't consider AC IV a part of the franchise but more of a disney Pirates of the Carribean game) go for it and give this game a shot. I for one wasn't disappointed but very pleasantly surprised even with all the horrible reviews.

the plot/dialogue on the other hand leaves a lot to be desired. it's hard to find any credibility in an opener when some unknown caller with a false name tells you within a minute of talking to you that there is a centuries old conspiracy and battle between good and evil, templars and assassins, and that YOU are suddenly one of the chosen ones. yeah right, pull the other one, it's got bells on ... as believable as the one about the Nigerian president's ex-wife wanting to transfer 1259509 billion into your account, etc... but some people do fall for that so go figure ...

co-op features are interesting and should be further developed. micro-transactions fail. unity app fail.

I can't believe this game gets such low reviews. I imagine it's all due to the glitches that it suffered at launch. I'm playing it one month later and it's working really fine. Some NPC sometimes behave wierdly, but you can live with that, happens in mostly all the games.

I read most people criticize it comparing it to Black Flag and the earlier games.. I'm not comparing it. I remember reading the same criticism about Black Flag last year. I think Unity is awesome, Paris is awesome and it's a pleasure to just explore it. There are so many things to do, and graphically.. man, it's a treat. Best graphics ever, except maybe just Crysis 3. The light, the effects.. it feels like playing in a '800 painting.

Maybe the average guy doesn't care about that. I do. And it's an awesome experience, worth the price (that by the way, got much cheaper considering the bad ratings).

And COOP is real fun, much better than the average multiplayer. There is a lot of content overall in the game, different kind of solo and coop missions etc.. you hardly get bored or see the end of it. I don't know if this is the best AC ever, it's simply a very good and fun one.

So yes, maybe it's good they release games with bugs, so people gets angry, write bad reviews and prices drop, and you also get for free what was supposed to be a DLC (Dead Kings). I think it's a steal now, just get it!!

All this made me hopeless for Unity. I Wasn't Waiting for it. however, when I saw the graphics and the world, I Decided to give it a shot. First AC Unity is a broken game. A lot of times, for no apparent reason, Arno fell into oblivion. Many times during free-run the game didn't respond to keyboard input. The story was the weakest until now lacking any actual climax unlike the stories of Ezio. The game was basically a tail, tackle, assassinate simulation, seeming like an alpha test for the engine, not an actual AAA hyped title. However I enjoyed it. roaming through Paris was fun but not at all rewarding. I wasn't even interested in going for the side missions. The strongest part was the Graphics which looked stunning, although it was plagued by countless glitches. The Whole game was a pleasing experience, but main story was ridiculously short and overall Assassin's Creed Unity had the potential to become one of the best games of 2014. It is unfortunate, because in the end, I think the Ubisoft folks wanted to make this much more enjoyable with the co-op and team aspects of the game. But that didn't work so well at first either. And to achieve that, most players need to have a really good gaming system, and that's just not reality. So it's like being between a rock and a hard place. I am changing my previous "1" rating to a 7 because after several patches and upgrades, I am able to finally play the game by optimizing the game and launching through GeForce. Still, the topic is not interesting. Arno is just not that engaging of a character compared to Ezio. The story focuses too much on the history of Paris (fine with me, I love history) but it doesn't compare to exploring Rome, Venice, Florence and other places in the AC II and Brotherhood series. Plus, where are the companion assassins?? Arno doesn't have any, except for obscure missions given by certain "shadow assassins" but he certainly doesn't command a team like Ezio did in AC Brotherhood and Revelations. Really, for a series that is so extremely popular to have over 800 negatives compared to 200 positives in this Metacritic system has to do not only with the "unplayability" but with the overall theme of the game. I rate games also based on how many times I would replay it. While I've replayed the previous AC games at least 4 or 5 times, I don't see myself replaying Unity for the next few years. It's just too predictable and basic. Today I received the DLC Dead Kings. The advanced video looked amazing. I thought it would be similar to the underground city of Cappadocia in AC Revelations. But no, each mission just takes you back to the underground catacombs and then you have to find your way out each time. It gets a bit boring. If the entire story would have been in the catacombs (again, maybe an underground complex like Cappadocia) it might have provided a bit more interest to me. The missions to "conquer" some outposts sounded very interesting. I thought wow, it's like Far Cry 3 and 4 where there is a complex of buildings you have to attack with some strategy. No. I was wrong. It's basically killing the boss and that's it. So again, simple and boring. The main effort by Ubisoft was obviously to improve graphics and offer co-op and team gaming (thus affecting a lot of people whose systems can't handle that). They need to focus on the topic, theme, characters and environment whether it's single or multiplayer and they would be more successful. Will I purchase future AC titles? of course. Does this rating ruin the chances for anyone new to give it a try? I say purchase the previous titles first, and then buy this one. By then, it will be at least 50% off. Expand

The game runs smoothly for the most part on my pretty fast computer, but every now and then there's a weird slow-down where the game becomes unresponsive. Afterwards, I find Arno climbing an invisible wall with no way to get down except exiting the game. Because most of the sessions aren't very fun, I usually don't restart the game.

The layout of the map and the large number of civilians makes running around on rooftops faster than street travel again for the first time in years. Unfortunately, Ubi changed the free-running system to now require pressing an extra button for up or down. The system isn't tuned well, and while the system does allow a person to run around a corner or around an obstacle without inadvertently climbing, it is still a major step back in terms of fluidity of control.

Combat is awful - where in previous games a player could cut down a crowd like Chow Yun Fat, Arno is not a very good fighter. The visual cues for parry timing have been tweaked, and they are not as effective - especially coupled with the slow-down that often occurs in very crowded areas while fighting. Further, there seems to be no way to prevent getting shot (the last several games had a human shield maneuver). Worst of all, 90% of the trademark assassin moves (air kills, stealth kills, etc) are unavailable until purchased with one of the FOUR in-game currencies. Combat has taken a HUGE step back in this iteration of the series.

In previous games, Ubi tried to train us to accept running around a map looting chests as a substitute for gameplay. In this game, Ubi moves to step two: exploiting the now-ingrained chest hunting by making chests that can variously only be opened in co-op, using the smart-phone app, or using real-money to buy points. The map is so filled with markers for collectable objects, which as far as I can tell offer no significant benefit upon being collected, that it makes navigation a little frustrating. And the map itself is soooo huge that missions often require running a tremendous distance between objectives, just like the old days. I would've preferred to have the map broken into separate pieces with many more fast-travel options.

A phenomenal storyline woudn't be enough to save this game, but it's irrelevant. Arno is an insipid character, like a shadow of Ezio, who as an orphan doesn't even have family members to use as a vehicle for driving the story. Overall, Unity is my least favorite Assassin's Creed game ever and probably the most disappointing AAA game I've ever played. Even AC: Liberation HD, the port from a mobile platform, exceeds this game in every measurable way short of outright visual fidelity. The only good thing I have to say about Unity at this point is that Ubi gave me a free copy of FC4 for being unlucky enough to buy Unity at full price.

Then there's this great bug, that causes jumps/spikes when you're connected to the Internet...

My experience so far: needlessly pumped up minimum requirements, glitchy, bug-ridden, and this is after 4 patches... What it had to be at launch day I can't start to imagine. Unskippable intros. 2. The game with all the technicals.

    1:
If I was to just review the game itself discarding all the technical issues I would say the game is f*cking amazing. Ubi has significantly improved upon the existing game and has brought the game back to the vision of AC2. A stealth focused game. Heaps to do, love the new parkour system, makes running through areas with chest high walls not a problem. I hate the new combat system, the only reason I hate it is because its really hard, which is a good thing. This time around you actually need to try. Lots of new animations to the game. Your character feels like he as weight and mass. The crowds are massive but don't serve any purpose other then to fill the streets. So there pretty much useless. The story seems average. I have not completed it but its hard to keep up. Co-Op seems like a good idea but is heavily broken (Will discus in second part of review) and theres character customization. Heaps of gear and weapons to buy. So that sums up the experience and I would give it and 8/10

    2:
Now, this part will explain everything I stated above but with the FPS/Stuttering/Freezing/Random Audio Loss included. I'll cut right to the chase. This is bullsh!t, the game is unplayable. Constant stuttering, FPS drops. ABSOLUTELY UNPLAYABLE. You walk down the street and your character starts teleporting around and the game freezes and all of a sudden your some where else. I can handle the minor issues like A.I f*cking up, texture popping, A.I randomly appearing. BUT I CANNOT HANDLE THE STUTTERING AND FPS DROPS. 4/10

Side note: The game features micro transactions to allow you to unlock equipment faster. W.T.F Ubi, are you trying to be the next EA.

I was willing to forgive the glitches since I didn't get nearly as many (Waited a week and a half to play it since I played Rogue first), but the cliche ending was horribly written and completely ruined an otherwise 7/10 game. I started this game not long after a trip to Paris and wow, this game recreated Paris so well that I could even compare in-game scenes with pictures I took in the trip.

I have been a fan of the franchise since brotherhood. Black Flag was so much fun that I initially wanted to purchase this game as soon as it was released. I didn't know they could make optimizing worse than Watch_Dogs but then they release Assassin's Creed Unity on PC in a terrible stage. This game deserves a much higher score but I can see why it's so low, since Ubisoft released it way too early and didn't bother fixing the bugs. The game itself is really fun and probably the second best game in the Assassin's Creed franchise but I can't enjoy it when I have stuttering and FPS issues on low settings while I have a good gaming computer!

Assassin's Creed Unity follows the story of a man named Arno Victor Dorian in the French Revolution . His father was killed at a party when Arno was just a small child in around his 10 year old stage. After that, a man named (Mister) François de la Serre adopts him. Arno played with a girl around his age named Elise and he falls in love with her, even though her father is (Mister) François de la Serre. Arno, in his adult years, is accused of murdering (Mister) François de la Serre and therefore he goes to prison. At prison, he finds out that his father used to be an assassin after meeting a man named Bellic. They escape out of prison in a riot and then Arno decides to join the assassins. Since this is a no spoiler review, that is all I will say.

Assassin's Creed Unity is a laggy and buggy mess. The game is great but bugs and FPS issues take away from it. Parkouring is the worst we've seen with nonhuman jumps, Arno never wants to go where you want to and it is just incredibly glitchy. Fighting should be good as they removed the counter system, and it is but the lag doesn't let me do it right!

Stealth in this game is great though, it actually is stealthy unlike any other Assassin's Creed game. I mean litereally why did it take so long for Ubisoft to put in a stealth button? It's really fun and even more fun with friends. The phantom blade is also great as it helps in stealth a lot and just looks cool overall. Can't say anything else about stealth honestly.

Co-Op in this game is incredibly fun! Even with the bugs and connection issues, I still do actually manage to have fun with my friends, although I do get frustrated sometimes with bugs. The missions are all unique, the heists are.. meh and it's just fun to mess around in open world. I do wish you could play the campaign in co-op because that would be amazing.

The level design, atmosphere and graphics in this game is the best I've seen in any Assassin's Creed game, it is incredibly immersive and the little details are massive. The art directors really put their heart and soul into this game and it shames me to see that I can't even see it a lot due to me having to run the game at low settings but otherwise, it is amazing and it really makes me feel like I'm France during the revolution period.

Arno is an amazing character, his humour completely matches my style (Sarcastic), he reminds me of Ezio which can never be a bad thing and he's realistic. Like Ubisoft stated, Arno is not just some grizzled action hero, he's a real person who can get hurt easily and has many emotions which makes him more relatable. Arno's story is about redemption, while Ezio's was about revenge. Arno also is a great assassin as he also thinks very stealthily which is what a true assassin should do, it's even in their brotherhood.

The story in this game is great, I haven't played it that much therefore I will change this section of my review in later time but from what I've played, it's really good although I don't have a really good hook that makes me want to keep playing it, instead I just want to be playing co-op a lot but the story is great and any Assassin's Creed fan will enjoy it.

Overall, Assassin's Creed Unity is great! Everything we want in an Assassin's Creed game is right there but we can't enjoy it when Ubisoft keeps releasing it in terrible times where we can't run it well on our gaming rigs! It's a buggy mess. You should really buy Assassin's Creed Unity but not in the current state it is in, wait a few months until they fix this buggy mess of a game. I enjoy Unity but like I said, it's too buggy for me to fully enjoy, it can really be an amazing game.

Before I rip into it, I must say that if it were not for all the game-breaking issues, this would actually be a fun game to play, but given the state it is in after almost 4 weeks post-release, another bad review is in order.

The graphics are lackluster at best, even with everything at ultra and max post processing. Compare it even to console gta5 and you'll be disappointed. Low resolution texture abound, though there are some decent ones. The performance is horrible, on a core i-7 @ 3.1ghz with crossfired 6970s, a setup that runs crysis 3 and metro 2034 at 1080 resolution with max settings and decent (30+) fps, this engine cannot even manage that consistently at medium settings, were talking in the 20-40 range usually. Strangely, it is not the crowded areas, but just simply random places, that cause the most severe drops. The game crashes constantly on its own, without cause, and if you wish to tab out to view something on your browser, god help you if it still runs after that. The controls are horrible and generally respond badly to player commands, you'll see your character walking towards something while your hands are off the keyboard occasionally, and this is not during cutscenes. You will be forced to climb walls you did not aim at nor can have any use in climbing.
There is micro-transaction and companion app garbage that is required to significantly upgrade your equipment, if you try looting your way to an upgrade I fear it takes an eternity.
The story is dull but honestly that is the least atrocious sin ubisoft committed in ACU's production.
I purchased this game 3 weeks after its nov. 11th release, assuming the bugs would be patched out by this point, but sadly, its still plays like a beta FRESH out of alpha testing. Gamers need to heed this warning and stop buying/funding ubisoft and their ilk, for if you keep buying garbage, they will keep selling you garbage. Demand more, demand what game developers gave us in their pioneering days when they were struggling to eke out a profit, and perfection was the ideal, not record pre-orders.

Honestly, I don't think ACU gets all the credit it deserves because its technical issues overshadow the gameplay changes. And it DOES have some major technical issues, let's get that right out there first. Play the game in its current form and you'll find yourself in a lagfest, freezing every few minutes and glitching through the ground occasionally. Though the new stealth/cover mode and descending option are great ideas at their core, their controls feel clumsy and still need quite a bit of tinkering. I'd discourage anyone from buying the game until Ubisoft has released a few patches that solve these problems, as it simply won't be worth your money in its current state.

That being said, this is the first game in the series (and really, I loved Black Flag, but still) that gives me the actual feeling the creators tried to fix some of the game's biggest flaws. The addition of a pretty decent skilltree and equipment system allows for tons of customisation and lets you adjust your assassin to your own playstyle. Random events, side-missions and storyline missions have a much better design than the game's predecessors, never feeling repetitive or lineair, but instead granting you an incredible degree of freedom to achieve your goal the way you see fit: Which is pretty much what we all wanted missions to look like since the first Assassins Creed. Difficulty has been upped (it's not quite there, but it's heading in the right direction) by making enemies stronger and more aggressive and by having missions require more thinking and planning. Powerful skills, such as bombs, disguise or double assassination, need to be unlocked first, which is actually a pretty nice touch.

The story of the game is so-so, but it holds up. Arno is definitely no Ezio or Edward, but he's likeable enough not to make you want to stop playing. Same goes for the other characters. Personally, I like Arno's animation a lot as he moves and fights with a lot more "sophistication" and acrobacy than most previous assassins. The whole Abstergo mayham has quite obviously been moved to the background and is now used more as a way of "explaining" the game rather than actually forming a progressing background story. Quite a bummer for the people who enjoyed it, but personally, I never really did. I like the whole "DNA memory simulation" theme behind the games, but the story was atrocious. It's probably better off this way.

I can't really judge as the game's graphics yet since, because of its horible bugs, I can't play it on (ultra) high. By the looks of it, however, it isn't really significantly better than the previous games. 18th century Paris looks smashing, as we've grown to expect, but doesn't feel revolutionarily pretty. A pretty nifty new feature in ACU's world is the fact you can go indoors now. You can use houses as shortcuts (freely, not in an AC3 cutscene kind of way) and many missions take place inside buildings. This contributes a lot to the whole freeroam feeling.

I'm rating the game a 7 for potential since, the way I feel it, Ubisoft is really heading down the right track here, giving me high hopes for future AC's. I hope people can see past the game's technical problems and still purchase it once these are fixed, as it might just be one of the most fun games of the series: An uncut diamond.

Not sure about frame rates (as long as the game doesn't look choppy I'm happy), but I am running all the graphics settings on very high and it looks absolutely stunning.

Gameplay wise I really felt a return to the earlier Assassin's Creed games in terms of missions, free-form assassinations and dense cities with plenty of climbing space. This was sorely missed in the blunder that was AC3 and AC4, which while a thoroughly enjoyable and stunning game, just didn't feel like assassins creed.

One thing I really like is the integration of co-op/multiplayer in this game. I am anti-social at the best of times and really hate games that push too much multiplayer on you, especially when opting out of it prevents you from finishing the game fully (*side-eyes most recent chapter of splinter cell*). In ACU the coop stuff is there if you want it, but you never really need to.

My only real gripes about this game so far are the usage of pay-to-win (let's just call a spoon a spoon) which I despise in any game (although kind of understand the logic as Ubisoft lost a ton of revenue to pirates, not the ACIV kind, who then go and give their games bad reviews because they cant get the game fixing patches), and the fact that Initiates was fully integrated into the game even though it is broken and has been since before ACIV.

All in all if you can run this game and like the earlier titles, this will be a great game, enjoy.

I do know that some are experiencing glitches. All I can say to them is to make sure they have the latests drivers and to disable SLI entirely to see if they still have problems. Another solution might be to disable 'Motion Blur' in the graphics options. Although I have a 5960X with a Palit GTX 980, I still think that players with less powerfull setups could easily manage to get the game going ...

But a very good CPU (at least a 4xxxK) should be used to play this game. Yes guys, read this well: mid-setups from 4 years ago are not going to give you a good framerate in this game. And a 4770K is not this good compared to a 3770K. Maybe you should go for a new PC if you have this type of setup as all future games are going to be very demanding on the CPU side of things. In fact, the main engines are evolving right now to match the new baseline enacted by cur-gen consoles. As such, the PC basic requirements are already evolving right now ...

The good news: Ubi actually listened to fans who wanted less hand-holding; more open ended assassinations. They even shelved the out of place if mechanically excellent sailing. Customization is also fantastic.

The Bad: The 3 main pillars of AC: Parkour, combat and stealth have always looked a LOT better than they actually played but in Unity this is taken to absurd levels.

Parkour in theory should allow the player more control with the added fast-descent, but a in practice only makes things more complicated compounded by the irregular Parisian architecture leading Arno jumping on things you don't want, refusing to climb or drop at all and getting stuck on objects constantly.

Stealth: I rejoiced when I saw we would finally have a crouch and cover system, believing they would simply rip the brilliant Watch Dogs version and use that. Actually, no. This has to be the most inconsistent, broken cover-system i've played since Mass Effect 1. Want to quickly get into cover? Well, my friend, press x to roll that dice,. because Arno may do as you ask.... or he may rather then going into the piece of cover you want go out of his way to slide into a doorway in full view of everyone. He may only go into cover if he's standing. Or crouching. Or he may automatically go from one of these stances to the other for no reason. He may go into cover nowhere near the corner, or more likely he will just refuse altogether. In classic AC fashion Ai, level design and guard placement and patrols are all over the place leading to the conclusion the devs have nary a clue of how to DO stealth. Combine this with the erratic, sticky Parkour and imprecise general movement and frustration exceeds blood-boiling levels,

Combat: Well it's harder - no REALLY this time. Unfortunately it's not for the right reasons. Sure they removed the press counter to literally set up a kill-streak to eviscerate every guard in the western hemisphere, and replaced it with a nice timed parry, and allowed guards to attack you together, but the delay in reponse to your commands means you will get killed through no fault of your own. And because the game automatically judges whether Arno is 'in' or 'out' of combat if you want to run good luck because you will have to fight the controls to force Arno out of the combat stance, which combined with the aforementioned delay means you will more often than not get impaled in the back by the time you get the game to respond to what you want. Batman Arkham this ain't.

Playing this game is one of the most heart-breaking and frustrating experiences I've had in gaming, because it's clear Ubisoft really listened to what people wanted and clearly tried to produce the ultimate AC - a game that SHOULD have been the pinnacle of the series. When things work the game feels beautiful. Unfortunately that is the problem. Things work about 20% of the time. For every time Arno balletically glides over a ledge and slides down a rooftop into cover, before seemlessly wrentching a guard round a corner to sever his carotid artery without alerting a soul to his presence there will be another 4 where he'll get stuck on the ledge, or jump off the rooftop, or refuse to go into cover and get seen. It seems a combination of lack of talent to implement consistant, responsive controls in favour of their beloved animations and the usual Ubisoft rush-to-shelves-for-holiday-season have given us a beautiful yet horribly, buggy, unoptomized, broken mess.

A "game" you cannot complete is no game at all, whatever opinion I have of the excellent graphics in this game is thus void. Ubisoft needs to clean out its house. Zero score for this. This is a travesty and should no longer be acceptable to PC gamers.

The game is just graphically beyond current hardware. You can qq about ubisoft not optimsing the game but the fact is the graphics are beyond anything elsecto date.

The story of the elder races and how our past is not what is told to us is a wonderful concept that can be a legendary IP that most players would love and remind merrily even after years. And Ubi was doing a wonderful job twisting the story and surprising players.

    Until Assassin's Creed: Unity.

I wanted to love this game, I really did. I played it for a certain amount of time, not dwelling on it's bugs and/or faults. But again, even a fan has his own limits.

First of all: bugs. Lots and LOTS of bugs. I can't even begin to tell you how many times I fell through the ground, stuck inside a wall or a cabinet or couldn't catch a ledge and fell to an assassin's worst enemy: gravity. I'm used to bugs in open world games: you can't expect a game to be non-linear and bug-free. But combination of a buggy game play with really serious performance issues leaves scars on you.

Why do this game requires a great hardware anyway? Shadow of Mordor has better graphics yet my hardware was more than enough to play it. I mean I can agree that it doesn't have crowds, superb animations or a lot of water and/or reflections but it was way better in terms of both optimization and hardware/beauty ratio.

Another thing about this game is controls. Those damned controls. I've played all other assassin's creed games and while they didn't feel as fluid as this game (in terms of both animations and climbing mechanics) but they let me do what I want to do or how I want to kill my helpless targets. But this game always blocks my progress by not letting me out of cover, stepping on a board that is literally only centimeters higher than the ground I'm on, jump on the platform I want and air assassinate the target I want to air assassinate. Seriously, when you take controls out from a game that requires you to be fluid and synchronized is like eating rice without a spoon or a fork: you are randomly using tools, hoping to do what you want to do.

Storyline of the era (which is the era of French revolution) is really nice, even though I've no idea how French revolution went in real life. But the story line that I fell in love with (that is the previous race and how humans are created) feels like it's gone to toilet. We don't have a main character, we are just this anonymous player who plays Abstergo product but that's it. No more "let's go outside of the simulation and discover truth about whereabouts, missions and state of today's assassins and templars".

Conclusion: This game had the potential to be something big yet it failed to deliver what it was supposed to be, both as story and game mechanics.

My laptop is a i5-3317u with 6gb ram and nvidia GT635M and I run this game at about 15-18fps with quite smooth gameplay. I would give this game a 10/10 if there weren't any problems but since I gave a 9/10, there is a problem. First of all, the performance, yes the performance, I have seen people with GTX graphics card reaching low fps and I know Ubisoft can do better than that. But the problem which made it 9/10 is the fact that this game has been worked around for 4 years and in the 4 years, Ubisoft has been busy making this game but still delivered a...well... poorly optimized game. Ubisoft, Alex Amancio, stop the microtransactions please. < Another problem stated. Now, my next problem isn't with the company but with people, most of them at the very least. Since technology and industries have gone bigger and bigger, people strive for AMAZING graphics, for AMAZING storyline, for AMAZING gameplay... yet all I see now are people complaining about unsatisfying graphics like 90% of the time. If it is graphics you're looking for, then why do you play these games? For entertainment? No, entertainment doesn't have anything to do with graphics, it's more towards storyline and gameplay. You play these games for... as I would say, art, not in the way where I would see. My art is about storyline, gameplay, playable decent graphics. I wouldn't mind having graphics like the first Assassin's Creed for AC Unity as long as I enjoy it. But your art is about beautiful, amazing looking environments, amazing looking characters, hair details, eye details, every single bit of texture is your concern. You do not care about the gameplay or the storyline, you care about graphics. And this is why companies are able to deliver poorly optimized game or even optimized games that doesn't even satisfy you. They worked their asses off to create games and yet all you care about is graphics(90% of the time) which is like less than half of what they want you to experience. They may tell you to visit beautiful Paris in the 18th century, they may tell you to explore the Notre Dame de Paris with beautiful details. But games like Minecraft, you enjoy them not for the graphics right? Then stop complaining please, I may sound like a butthurt person... well maybe I am kinda but seriously, companies deliver what you want them to deliver, companies only make games with amazing graphics because YOU wanted them, if you were like "I want an amazing storyline for the next game in the series", then they would decrease their work on the graphics and more into the storyline. Yes this game has glitches and bugs, but that's the risk you have to pay. I also seen reviews saying that this is a copy of the other AC games. And honestly, this brought me to the thought when someone(forgot who was it) that reviewed saying that Pokemon X and Y still feels like a Pokemon game...like wtf? How do want Pokemon to feel like? Like Call of Duty? Pokemons picking up guns shooting at people like GTA? No! Assassin's Creed games are third person, checked. They are about going back to history, checked. They have free roam, checked. The Assassins have hidden blades, checked. Assassins do parkour, checked. I don't want an Assassin's Creed game to be first person shooter, I want it like how it originally is. Like Call of Duty or Battlefield, it started off as a FPS and it still is a FPS. Games have their own respective types as I would say. I can't say more, I'm in lost for words a second ago and I thought I would be able to write down alot, well... If anyone who is reading this, just think of what I said and think of the future of the gaming industries and gaming itself. Expand

AC:Unity first i was exited for this game but now im not and here is why

    1. The game is badly optimized, fps drops etc.
    2. Bugs and crashes
    3. Price tag
4."Needs an high end computer" to run this game

Otherwise the game seems cool with its new graphics but still not worth the price tag (yet)
My advice is wait for the 3rd patch which they will improve performance and then consider it.

Assassin's creed unity is a great game, but i feel that the developers released it a little too early and because of that the game suffered. There are lots and lots of bugs to be fixed, but the gameplay, story and animation are great i feel as though people are being too harsh on this game

I don't know how many lines of code this game has but I can tell it would be technically demanding. The realism of the city and the crowds of people makes this a demanding game on one's hardware. I would love to be able just to wander about old Paris but I have my options turned down so low as to make the place looks rather ordinary.
Also, I find the button options weird. I guess it has something to do with the port from console but then again maybe this kind of game just doesn't translate well to pc.
One thing that really gets me is how much of this game is aimed at being online. Have to be online to open some treasure chests,Initiates (whatever they are), EStore. If I wanted online I would have chosen to be online. The single player experience is cluttered by these online options.

Assassin's Creed Unity is a beautiful game when it wants to be. As a first entry into next-generation gaming, Ubisoft has a lot of work to do. Once the bugs are fixed, the game might be worthy of a discount pick up.

(I'm going to ignore the performance issues for this review and focus only on the game, although I was lucky and had next to no performance issues, having a 3570k and a gtx 970, I managed to run it at maxed settings with FXAA at a steady 50-55 fps with none of the stuttering I've heard about, frame rate did drop in cut scenes to that late 30s)

It's an undeniably beautiful game, if your PC can handle it (it's a bit of luck I suppose combined with good hardware) The graphics are a marked improvement over the previous game, but I was running at pretty high settings. The game goes back to the more classic AC style; running around a gorgeous city rather than the dullness of colonial American architecture or the Caribbean. With the addition of the interiors of many buildings, it really does feel more immersive.

The story gets off to an interesting start, the main character, Arno, is the son of an Assassin, who's father is killed is then taken in by a Templar and raised with his step sister; Elise. The story is primarily focused around assassinations, each sequence being quite short (there's 12 of them) and most involving one of the excellent assassination missions, which there are a bucketful of ways to approach each one, a couple of them having unique kills and all of them having tens of ways to infiltrate the area. These are the highlight of the main story. The ending is rather lackluster, it could have been implemented much better. The rest of the story however is exciting and while I was playing it I couldn't stop myself going for the next mission. I constantly wanted more. I still want more. Another downside is if you enjoy the modern day story, there isn't really much of it.

The side missions are rather good, there's hundreds of them seemingly, I haven't got through them all yet. The "Paris Stories" are the main ones, where you follow mini campaigns of citizens of Paris, solving their problems (which mostly involves killing people). There are also social clubs, which provide you with 3 missions each, each offering a cash reward, some very small, some very significant. Again, mostly these revolve around killing people.

Onto the coop mode. It worked most of the time for me, on release day it was having some trouble, as UPlay was offline, but when it worked it was really fun. I was playing with randoms but it would have been much more fun if my friends played it, so we could have some kind of coordinated effort. Killing two people in sync though is as satisfying as it looks on the promotional material. It's a joy to play and the missions are actually quite long, and can be played alone if you're up for the challenge.

The new combat system is a nice refresher for the boring simplicity which has plagued the previous games. Weapon tiers actually matter now, increasing damage and the health bar is back from the Ezio games, and the kill streak function is gone, to make it harder for you to take on large sums of enemies. This makes stealth a much more important factor in areas with lots of guards. The smoke bomb function is a useful one, but it has been nerfed a bit so that you cant kill everyone just by dropping one. It's mostly useful for running away or surprise attacks.

The free running mechanic has been upgraded and it looks and feels smoother than ever. It's more refined with the addition of the downward parkour being wonderful, it feels really good when you get it right. The motions look fluid and the running looks excellent. Overall it feels a bit different to old AC games in the free running regard, a nice improvement.

Now for the micro transactions. Honestly, if nobody had told me beforehand, I wouldn't have even known that they were there. The top tier gear is quite expensive but once you have cash rolling in from Café-Théâtre, it really doesn't take that long to get the cash, no longer than the best gear took in AC:IV. The companion app is absolutely dreadful however, I have no clue how to use it after spending about 15 minutes trying to fathom it and then giving up, as is the AC Initiates crap.

In summary, if your PC can handle it, it's one of the best games in the series yet, despite its disappointing ending, I've still had the most fun in this iteration of AC than I have since brotherhood. It was a good decision to go back to the original AC formula, and it has worked very well. It's visually stunning, the architecture is interesting and there's plenty to do. It's absorbing and immersive, with interesting combat and excellent free running. I can't recommend it enough.

Story: Well i not gonna spell any spoiler, this will be short this is a soap opera nothing more but truly! this is not an assassins creed game! only the name is ac nothing else! Arno is a BAD copy of ezio. The first 20 minute of gameplay as a templar (tragedy of jacques de molay) is better than the whole ac unity game was! finally i SAW a real TEMPLAR guys! finally after AC1! even the musics was better for this short gameplay and it was very cinematic and intense.

Music/Sound: sound effect is really awesome but still not mach with ac1 lifelike background sounds, same goes for the music wich is unity have a terrible musics, boring, flat unlike ac1/ac2/ac brotherhood they have genius musics.

i still think the best ac games was AC1,AC2,AC3,AC brotherhood after that the whole asassins creed franchise goes downhill.
The only positive was the game ending that was pretty good its looks like not a fairy tale game.

Something really really expensive, specially here where I live (Brazil). It was very very disappointing. My computer is not that bad... I have a R9 270X and even in medium graphics quality I feel like in the past, trying to run GTA IV in a poor computer. It freezes, the fps is ridiculous... I'm sad.

I'm really sad because the game in general is awesome! It's not just more of the same. It is in some way, but AC fans are used to it... and LOVE IT! We want more AC, new stories, new mysteries, new characters and Unity gives us all this! But in a way that is too much expensive to feel happy about it...

If your rig is decent enough to play it, then give it a shot. I can run it on high and although it is still a bit slow at times it most definitely does not stop me playing it.

It has some fun missions, but not too much. It also manages to disrespect the history of the French Revolution in contrast to the fairness other historical events were treated in the Series. . Arno is the blandest character in the franchise, no interest, just cares about vengence and made to be too much of a do-gooder. The idea of a Templar-Assassin unity that was promised in the promotion get shelved since its entirely confined to a romance between Arno and Elise. With the exception of Bellec and the indecisiveness of the Assassin Council, the game is still Assassin Arno and Templar Elise versus even worse Templars, and there's no real attempt at unity. The entire French Revolution also gets shafted too for this love story. And they even do the love story poorly because Elise DIES and she's one of the few only intresting characters in the story!

Newfound openness of Assassin’s Creed demonstrates just how inadequate its AI really is for a stealth game: pampered nobility usually simply ignores a bloodied body on the dance floor, and guards don’t care much either. At least they’ve learned how to fight: unless you “cheat” with smoke bombs, it’s highly unlikely you’ll survive a melee against a group. [Jan 2015, p.62]

As I write this, Assassin’s Creed: Unity is a bugfest, but technical problems, however annoying, can and probably will be fixed. It is not cracks in textures that it is the most worrying thing about Unity, but the cracks in game design and writing.
