There’s just something about being able to punch Nazis and solve elaborate puzzles on the go that is uniquely satisfying.

When a game comes late to Nintendo platforms, you sometimes wonder, was this really worth all the fuss when it first released? Were we missing out? The answer for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is an emphatic “you’re damn right it is”. While the game’s mechanics are things we might have seen before, we’ve never seen Indiana Jones treated with this much respect for such a long time. MachineGames have nailed it, and the Switch 2 port shows that the age of the impossible port isn’t over, because you lose almost nothing by playing it here. We might not get another Indiana Jones movie again, but if we can get another Indy game as good as this, we’ll be just fine.

Concessions aside, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle for the Switch 2 is impressive. The globe-trotting adventure takes Indy on another mystical quest, and one that’s worthy of the films at that. New characters and locations help this story feel fresh at times, and the exploration and puzzles are equally important in delivering the ultimate fantasy of being the beloved treasure-hunting archaeologist who’s been a staple of cinema for nearly 50 years.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on Switch 2 stands as a remarkably complete handheld adaptation of a cinematic adventure that was never originally built with portable limitations in mind. What makes it work is how consistently the core experience survives the transition. Puzzles remain engaging, exploration stays immersive, and the sense of being part of a globe-spanning mystery never fully fades. The trade-offs in visuals and performance are real and occasionally noticeable, but they rarely undermine the moment-to-moment enjoyment.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle underscores the Nintendo Switch 2’s unique standing among Nintendo consoles: it’s the home of ambitious blockbusters from partner studios—games that are a lot of fun to play and capable of delivering surprises whether you’re playing on the TV or holding the console in your hands.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is an impressive port on Nintendo Switch 2—maintaining the fun and excitement of the films, and the impressive qualities of its console brethren.

Even though it’s great to see good old Indy back on the Nintendo Switch 2, it’s hard to say this version does Indiana Jones and the Great Circle full justice. Despite the strength of its story and atmosphere, which remain very true to the spirit of the films, the gameplay experience is let down by a lack of technical optimization and user-friendliness, particularly if you want to enjoy the game in handheld mode.
