There’s just something about being able to punch Nazis and solve elaborate puzzles on the go that is uniquely satisfying.

The Great Circle is, by far, the best Indiana Jones media since The Last Crusade. While its story plays things a bit too safe, it's probably for the best after the last two contentious films (Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and Dial of Destiny). Indy works best when he's a young escapist character that men wish they could be. He shouldn't ever be depicted as old and tired, which has been a trend with many legacy characters lately. While Gina sucks as a deuteragonist, the overall adventure is so wonderful that it's easy to forget she spoils the puzzles. The gameplay is tight and well polished, offering classic action-adventure fun packed with puzzles, stealth, and battles to keep things fresh, all wrapped up in some of the cleanest, slickest production values out there. It's an absolute technical marvel on Nintendo Switch 2, and the gyro-aim options make it more enjoyable to play than on other consoles.

Concessions aside, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle for the Switch 2 is impressive. The globe-trotting adventure takes Indy on another mystical quest, and one that’s worthy of the films at that. New characters and locations help this story feel fresh at times, and the exploration and puzzles are equally important in delivering the ultimate fantasy of being the beloved treasure-hunting archaeologist who’s been a staple of cinema for nearly 50 years.

Like many ports of current generation titles, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is a solid iteration of an excellent title. The game absolutely nails the feeling of a classic Indiana Jones adventure with a great balance of puzzle-solving and action. The dialogue and humor are spot-on, the places you visit are as varied as can be, and the presentation is still incredible on such a seemingly underpowered device. It would've been nice if the DLC were included in the package, and there are still some gameplay elements that don't feel fully fleshed out, but this remains a title that is well worth playing — no matter where you're playing it.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is a great game with a unique personality, highly varied and entertaining, featuring a more than notable gameplay adaptation on Nintendo Switch 2, although its technical performance on the console could have been better. It’s an unpolished diamond that is still enjoyable, even if it leaves you wondering what it could have been with better optimization.

Even if I wasn’t as impressed with The Great Circle on Switch 2 compared to other, similar ports, it was still an enjoyable experience. If you can get past minor visual weirdness and a smidge of lag, this version of the game will serve you well. And if you’re a Switch 2 only houseshold, there’s officially no need to miss out on this latest Indiana Jones adventure. But if I had the choice, I’d probably play this one on a platform with a big more processing power.

Dr. Jones does what he can with what he has, alongside MachineGames and Bethesda. It is a game that shines in every way thanks to its nostalgia and a unique adventure starring the legendary archaeologist, but it is somewhat held back by the lack of polish in its port. With a few improvements, some patches, and better texture handling, the game could end up being as good as its versions on other consoles.
