This game seems to be stuck at a 99 when it should be at 100, it was a staple in adventuring, I know people like to think of Mario being the golden child of Nintendo, but to me, Ocarina of Time speaks volumes of fantasy that can't be compared to any other game during it's time!

That's the best Zelda legend I've ever had.
It is also a game that I have memories of when I was in elementary school.
If you try it now, the graphics may feel bad, but once you start the game, even the bad graphics are not strange at all.
One thing I'm sorry about is why the Metascore score is only 99 points? This game needs to get 100 Metascore points!

Arin Hanson put it a great way saying something along the lines of "Why can't I go there, that's what I want to do". Once you've finished the game, everything becomes so annoying. I know the progression routine my head but when I play its so much **** longer. All the chicken **** and talking to sheik or Zelda every 5 minutes, it's infuriating! People who are hating on this game and saying nostalgia, overrated are def Nintendo haters. So what makes this game special? First of all this is one of the first 3D video games ever made. İt changed the entire gaming industry! A lot of modern games has took a lot from this game! “Anyone who makes 3-D games who says they've not borrowed something from Mario or Zelda is lying,” Rockstar cofounder Dan Houser said in 2012. The Dungeons are one of the best. Puzzles are really creative and fun. Gameplay is still awesome today and this game aged amazing. Story is also good I don't understand why people thinks story is bad? There are def better story games but Zelda games were never about story. İt was always about that amazing gameplay, level design, atmosphere, music and more! But story is still great imo. So much iconic scenes and it feels like a movie that a character goes to an adventure. As I said this game does an amazing job with atmosphere and making an alive world with gameplay instead of long cutscenes! Open world was insane for 1998! Today it maybe small but it still does an amazing job with making you free and has an exploring feeling! Music is also one of the best things that the Zelda series does. And this game has the best Zelda musics imo. İf you haven't played this game than just play it because it is worth for everything! Expand

A masterpiece. It has one of the greatest if not the best soundtrack of videogame history, and despite it was released in 1998, it is considerably better than any release in the present. Its controlls might be frustrating because of the N64 controller, but that is just a tiny problem that can easily be fixed buying a custom controller or the 3ds remake.

I have always been a big fantasy fan and I must say as soon as I started I was hooked. I had played many fantasy games before, such as Skyrim and all of that but man was this different. The game gives some of the greatest dungeon mechanics ever created. Every region in the continent of Hyrule introduces you to a whole new realm filled with new races, enemies, and object/supplies. Every dungeon/temple is filled with complex and very interesting puzzles. Every level has some new item that you need to get to the end, and must of the time you will need it later in your adventures. Many secrets lie hidden right before you across the fields of Hyrule, some with fantastic rewards. The narrative is compelling- it is what really got the Zelda timeline rolling. The bosses are fantastic, some are slightly easier than others but overall they are very different from one another and are very enjoyable to fight. This was the first 3d Zelda game and one of the first 3d games in the world. If this game wasn't a sucess neither would the whole gaming industry, I don't care if you compare Zelda to dog turd, its the reason you're having a good time on your nintendo. This game was revolutionary for its time and added a few mechanics that are still being used today. Even though the graphics aren't up to date they feel refreshing and puts you into the atmosphere of the game really well. Definitely a must-play for everyone.

The greatest game of all time, as simple as that.

Anyone who gives the masterpiece below a 7 or an 8 is either just here to hate on the astounding zelda franchise, doesn't know a DAMN good game or is insane. The only real downside is that the game is somewhat linear and you can't continue on after beating the final boss, but that doesn't detract from the huge amount of fun I had playing this game.

As most of the 10 responses show, there are a lot of personal investments in this game, whether due to nostalgia or a deep love of the franchise or even Nintendo. Some even seem overtly defensive. I like the game and enjoy the series, but there are better titles to be played within the series itself. Never mind other franchises.

Great music and a generally pleasant world to explore are marred by awful camera angles, terrible controls, ugly graphics and just a sense of very little to actually do. I'd rather play Link to the Past or Link's Awakening instead, as they are just far better games.

This game is super! The graphics for 2020 are not very good, but what did you want from the 1998 game? Cool gameplay, ADVENTURE! MORE ADVENTURES!

    I just don't get it.

Am I the only one who doesn't really like this game? I'll be honest I've never completed it, the furthest I've gotten is the completion of Death Mountain and that's about it. There's nothing I can point to in this game being definitively bad or anything, I like the setting and characters, it's just that I personally find the game really boring to play. The combat is

The combat is decent at best and the puzzles are pretty boring. I felt like I had to force myself to keep playing and as Reggie once said:

Kids who hate on this game are judging it against games in 2020. Hello! This game was made in 1998. For the time, OoT was a masterpiece. One of the first open word 3D games ever. Paved the way. Many of the games kids play today were influenced by OoT. "Z-targeting" was invented by OoT. Hub world. Navigation menus. All invented by OoT.

The graphics did not age well, but the first generation of 3D games are all like that. PS1 and N64 games all look like doo-doo in 2020. At the time though, OoT has possibly the best graphics of any 3D game.

For Zelda fans, this game introduced Zora as we know them. Introduced the Deku Tree, Epona, The Gerudo, etc. The Ganon fight at the end is still the best in the series and makes BoTW look even worse in comparison.

While I would ultimately recommend playing the remaster on the 3DS, I think it's important to acknowledge just how much of a beloved and irreproachable good game this is.

At the time of reading this, it's currently the highest rated game of all time here on metacritic. I don't think that's likely to change in the foreseeable future; and for good reason. No other game earns a 10/10 as easily as this does.

Featuring unparalleled 3D environments, a deep and involved quest, brilliant and intuitive play controls, and a well-developed cinematic quality that enhances rather than overwhelms the whole game experience, Miyamoto's latest soon-to-be-classic title deserves to be played by each and every person who might deign to consider themselves a fan of great games.
