The actual gameplay is not bad. The monetization is beyond disgusting with this game. The fact that you literally cannot compete with whales or upgrade your gear to the highest tiers without opening up your wallet is repulsive. This game is basically Diablo 3 but with narrow maps, less skills, way too many interfaces, and of course *insane* monetization.
Monetization to support a game is one thing, but the way they do it in this game completely belittles every free-to-play achievement in to the ground. The endgame, which is usually what people strive for in a Diablo game so they can perfect their build and min-max gear, is time-gated and pay-to-win gated with RNG. The endgame rewards one can buy aren't even guaranteed to be good, and make other Gacha games I have played look like they were spoiling me. The developers created a bunch of in-game currency that is barely explained and it makes it more difficult to calculate what you are buying is worth it or not, and then once people finally ran the numbers the results were insane on how hard it is to progress's at the end of the game. . I'd give the game a 1 instead of a 0 because the graphics are decent for a mobile phone game, but the developers really wasted my time and upset me to the point I am making a review. I like being competitive in a game mostly, but what fun is it when no matter what you accomplish you look at the scores ahead of you and just assume they are ahead of you because they spent money. Level up rewards feel predatory and insulting, the prompts to increase rewards tenfold at the end of every dungeon feels insulting, and the bang you get for your buck endgame, is a complete scam. The writing/lore is basically "rawr I'm evil and I'm going to do bad things," so you are there for the RNG drops but the developers made it so that drops are nearly non-existent so that you spend money and it just feels so predatory. I think what is most upsetting is that they made a game exactly like the other Diablo games and then deliberately trashed the good parts to make the player pay to have it barely trickled in to their mouth. The developers should have just made a very different game so that their fanbase wouldn't have been misled and then ultimately disappointed. Other Gacha games I can pay $100 for a completely new character, or an insane weapon, but in Diablo Immortal you just get things that are completely replaceable, maybe a fancy pair of gloves, and a small molecular chance at a good gem you can put on gear. You can buy the Battle pass where you have to work to get rewards you paid for, which I am surprised is legal you can buy things and then not have what you paid for rendered into you unless you log in daily... But the main thing to buy is skins which just makes the community angry if they see you wearing it because no one supports spending money on this product at this time. Download and you'll get a small high for free for a few hours, but then you won't feel anything but disgust as you navigate the rest of the game and witness the exploitation, belittlement of achievements, and no bang for your buck or time spent grinding to better your one character.

THE GOOD: The phone gameplay and feel of a Diablo game are very fun and well done. I like the amount of progression in the game and all the different systems give you a lot to work on.

I like the amount of progression in the game and all the different systems give you a lot to work on.

THE BAD: Actually progressing these systems properly will take forever to grind or spending a lot of money to progress normally. I knew ahead of time that the phone game MTXs would be ridiculous but the auction house tax is the cherry on top.
-The story - I was very lucky and got a 5 star gem drop and I decided to sell the gem on the auction house instead of using it. There was gold "fee" just to post the item, this sucks but i was used to this fee while playing WoW, but then It sold and then i had to wait about 18 hours or so to get the in game currency. Why is there a wait?? THEN when the time was up (the next day) they charged another 15% of the price as a "transaction fee".
SO....that's a day of waiting and 2 auction charges to use an in game system which uses in-game fake currency. Why is there a tax on this again?? And are they saving up this fake currency themselves. It's not like they're actually losing anything. It's just another way to ruin another system in a game that should be fun. This was only one issue i had with the monetization in the game but it really hit home when it wasn't about me spending my money, IT WAS THEM TAKING MONEY!

Graphically he delivers what was expected, mechanically he is the same thing as the other diablo. As for the game's controversy regarding monetization, and without wanting to play the devil's advocate, but a game of this level is not cheap at all, monetizing it is natural for the survival of the game's own ecosystem.
Yes the game is clearly Pay to Win, and honestly, what's the problem with that? Several games do the same thing, and it's an absolutely normal practice in the industry.

The game doesn't deserve 10 neither 0. I just want to be fair with the persons who worked hard on it. Indeed, the pay-to-win system is a shame, as a free-to-play player, it make me sick. I don't want to blame developers or their work on that when they just have to deal with what the company board wants. Too many complains were already publish about it so I will not go into it.

Without taking that into account, the game deserve at least 7/10 for a free mobile game. It is fun to play, the graphics are really good for a smartphone game and as usual the lore of Diablo is nice. The combat system is good for a smartphone game, but the leveling system could be better and smother. Overall, a really good game that deserve to be play.

Diablo Immortal is a parody of Diablo, a walking corpse that oozes technical quality and polish, with fantastic art, visuals, music, voice acting, UI, controls, and the dark atmosphere that defines the series.

Yet it lacks all richness and depth in its systems, which were gutted to enforce the rule of linear, p2w stats. The daily activity roulette nothing more than a casino calling endlessly, "stay a while and pony up". Like a spoiled cut of fine steak whose stench betrays its sustenance.

Diablo Immortal could have been a game people didn't know they wanted. If we had a PC client that wasn't trash, if the mtx were cosmetic only like path of exile (mostly), if the itemization and skill mutations weren't gutted to enforce the rule of paid stats (resonance)... If we had an actually deep arpg in this cross-platform framework, where players could run their quick solo rifts on their lunch break break and come home and do their raids on pc. There is so much potential.

The problem is that Diablo Immortal is exactly everything PC/console gamers dreaded about the encroachment of mobile gaming: Horrifically pay to win ✅ Overly simplified mechanics ✅ daily activity spam ✅ abusive use of FOMO ✅ artificial progress blockers ✅ no concept of total access or ownership ✅. A capitalist hellhole where addicting the player to daily grind is more important than giving them an experience that is worth money. Ultimately the game is designed specifically to target whales, and is not made with the enjoyment of the user being the first and foremost concern. Actually, the game is designed specifically to create anxiety in the player about limited time offers and deals and trying to break through barriers that the game itself purposefully put in place to throttle progress. This game is not made for you to want to play, the game is designed for you to not want to put it down. And it becomes very toxic and predatory in this aim.

It is a very confusing experience, to be going through a Diablo campaign that feels so true to Diablo. It looks good, the music is incredible, the story ties in well with both Diablo 2 and Diablo 3, lots of familiar faces and places make returns. Things that only Diablo vets would recognize. And in the middle of all that, your session is interrupted by a notification "BATTLEPASS LEVEL UP, PAY FOR ACCESS!!", or "FIRST KILL OF THE DAY BONUS!" or the giant "TAP TO GET MORE" button at the bottom of literally every item in the game. Even the items are simplified to the point that the game simply tells you what to equip. There's literally no tradeoffs or decisions to make. The only things that matter are combat rating and resonance. There's also no skill runes or ways to modify skill behavior (outside of legendary equipment which is also basic).

So the evolution of gameplay and character progression puzzle that are the two main pillars of the genre have both literally been completely replaced by the simple act of stacking larger numbers, which is time gated unless you spend money, up to a maximum of $110,000 per character. So despite much of the game's technical prowess, I simply could not find myself enjoying it. All I ever think about is "what daily activity am I missing out on" rather than "I cannot wait to try out this new item/power!" In this sense, Diablo Immortal truly does feel like the walking corpse of Diablo. It looks like everything a Diablo game should be on the surface, but all the guts and complexity have been ripped out and replaced with casino games and gotchas, and it's just been propped up in the town square, a parody of what Diablo fans held dear.

Immortal is a good Diablo game. Kill monsters, get loot, kill more monsters get more loot. Gear your toon up, kill all the monsters. The gameplay is smooth and the characters and monsters are crisp and clear. Want to use your phone as a display? Connect a controller. Want to play on PC? You can do that too. It's Diablo for the mobile platform, and it's good, no denying it.

Its Diablo on your phone, for free. It feels great to play here and there, you can log in for 10-15 minutes at a time and complete a quest, raid, or dungeon. The classes are great and the skills are fun and interesting. I've been loving my Necromancer so far. Itemization is WAY better than it was in Diablo 3.

This game is just stacked with quality content. I can't say anything bad about it. I highly encourage you to purchase the $5.00 battle pass. It's a great deal and you get a ton of extra stuff with it. The game is NOT pay to win. You can reach and participate in ENDGAME content without buying ANYTHING. Again, it's NOT pay to win whatsoever.

To summarize, this is the best Diablo game we've ever had. Period. It's better than Diablo 3 and Diablo 2. And it's obviously better than Diablo 1 (which is a very simple and boring game by today's standards) I can't wait to get back into the game, I'm going to go play it as soon as I'm done writing this review.

Just want to give a big thank you to Blizzard Entertainment and Netease. You've created the greatest action RPG I've ever played. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

If you want to upgrade items quickly, you can buy crafting materials and gems, but can be found normally during the game by completing specific dungeons. After completing the story dungeon, you can also buy a one-time chest with additional rewards. You can purchase a Battle Pass to get more rewards for progressing through the season, but there is also a free version. That's all.

Other things: although the successive locations you visit during the campaign require a specific character level, it is very rare that you need to catch up with a level (usually you already have a sufficiently powerful character). Even so, there are a lot of things to gain in the game: daily quests, journal goals, random dungeons, dungeon challenges. Only once did I have to do a classic monster grind. I wasn't a fan of Diablo, but I have a lot of fun playing it. I have been playing for about 10 hours since yesterday. A friend of mine said this game was basically simplified Diablo 3, but I didn't play it so I don't have a comparison. The PC port is lazy at best, but playable. You just have to get used to clicking the mouse on a typical mobile interface, which at first seems strange and unintuitive, but you can get used to it. There is also full gamepad support. I am not a fan of mobile games or Diablo series or hack&slash in general, but I was really hooked by the game and I will definitely finish the story but I don't know if I will be playing endgame

There’s a grind, but playing the missions, rifts and bounties which is the husk of the game is satisfying. You’ll get wrecked playing against a p2w player but you’ll be able to get a solid F2P game just doing about everything else. But I would of rather spent 30 bucks on a solid mobile Diablo without all the micro transactions. With all that I’m still playing and I’m still F2P so I can’t give it a terrible score, but it loses some points on the micro transactions. Expand

I'm bothered by the bland story of the world's destruction, which was vehemently influenced by the online nature and spirit of the game or the inability to change the camera. The game looks and runs very well, and you can also adjust the graphics settings on more powerful devices. I'd leave the disdain for the online elements of Diablo Immortal to the eternally doubting and overlooking, because just as you can recognize a good poem, you can recognize a fundamentally good game. To see it submit to mobile gaming's worst tendencies, rather than make any effort to be different, to be better, is galling. It may be flashy and efficient as both a Diablo game and a mobile game, but Immortal offers little that is bold, ambitious or innovative. Instead, its structure and pacing is designed with one goal in mind: to squeeze as much cash out of every player as it can. [Issue#374, p.110]

It is undeniable that Diablo Immortal's monetization system has problems and makes the more advanced stages of the adventure unpleasant, but the fact remains that the Blizzard title has brought one of the best experiences in the action RPG field to the mobile market, and it really is difficult to find on the App Store and Google Play Store another free to play with such high production values. Diablo Immortal is an excellent pastime for those who want to complete the long cooperative campaign and, above all, could represent the perfect entry point for those who have never approached the series: even without putting their wallet in, in fact, it remains a pleasant adventure to live while waiting for the fourth chapter to make its debut on the shelves.
