Summary: OpenIt's an election year, so why don't you forget about those Bush and Kerry guys for an hour and vote for one of these four jamokes to become the next Trading Spaces design expert? They will have to do a room in 12 hours here, so they're really under the pressure cooker. Then vote online. (Not now. The voting is over.)
Trade #1 - Jon

Trade #1 - Jon Laymon vs. Eric ColeCarpenter for this session, taped somewhere in Pennsylvania, is Carter Oosterhouse

Jon Laymon
Jon Laymon is from Orlando, Florida. He is an art director, artist, sculptor, designer. He is working on a kids' room with a space theme, designing functional and fanciful pieces. His wife Stacy thinks Jon will add a new dimension to Trading Spaces. He vows that the other designers are "going down!" Oh, one other thing: Jon's house is paid for, thanks to his win on TS: Home Free this past spring.

Eric Kole
Eric Kole, from Washington, D.C., has a store called Vastu (which is probably a past tense verb in Portuguese meaning "to overspend). It's a melange of furniture and art with very personal touches. It's not just functional but fun! Eric gets props from Heidi, a customer who is trusting him with her house. Eric cites a combination of listening and intervening with his own ideas as a factor in his success.
Jon's Room Jon wants to bring some formality into Mike and Beth's dining room, with the carpet removed, painting red wine, add shelving and crown molding.Jon lucks out by finding the hardwood floor hidden beneath the ugly carpet Jon's attempt to paint part of the candlesticks gold falls flat.. Jon is concerned that painting is still going on at 2:45. Carter has congratulated himself on getting the crown molding up before the room's completion. $997.11 "I really enjoy taking on these challenges."
Reveal- "Ho-lee sh--!" The room has everyone doubled over with glee
Last thought-"All the hard work and time really paid off in seeing their reaction."
Eric's Room Eric will have Carter build bookcases, repaint the trim (but not the walls) and build a new combination desk/dining room table. Carter marvels at the preparedness factor of both Jon and Eric as he pores over Eric's plans for the bookcases. Eric and Mike try to put together knock-together furniture, without actually having seen the instructions. New to TS this year: sneaky hidden camera photography. Watch what you say... it could wind up in the show!. Eric seems a little confused as to how much time he has to do the roomUnder Eric's watchful tutelage, Mike and Beth paint the glass on the underside to create a frosted effect. Carter's bookcases are done and painted; even so, two of the red squares need to be painted the cream color to tone them down $978.05 "I don't know if I could have done better in two days," says Eric, who says, "Good design happens for a reason."
Reveall- Holy crap! Oh my God!"
Last Thought- "It was nice to see them respond so positively to the room."
Trade #2 - Erin Martin vs. Scott Perkins Featuring carpenter Amy Wynn Pastor, enjoying the California sunshine.
Erin Martin Erin Martin has been doing design for nine years. She likes finishing her room designs on significant holidays. "I love doing kitchens because there's just so much stuff you can shove in." There are mostly female designers on her staff (like Claudia), and she bluntly states that Trading Spaces would be a better show with her on it.
Scott Perkins Scott Perkins works in his home in Atlanta. He's worked in advertising, set design and interior design. He says rooms talk to him. Among the design things he's done is casting himself and his wife Jo as Super Dad and Wonder Mom in a mural on their infant son's wall. How's those strained peas taste, Scott?
Erin's room Erin Martin plans to put the found door on a slider and turn it into a closet door. Erin will also paint the room brown and add headboard and nightstands. Erin plans to clean and repaint this ceiling fan and reinstall it in the room. The furniture is going to be repainted as well. $919.32 "All my clients are gonna laugh! 'Why can't you do that for me?'
Reveal- "Oh my God! I totally love it!" It's another hit from Erin.
Last Thought- "I'm very happy with the reaction. I couldn't have gotten two better people to help me, or two better people to do a room for."
Scott's room Scott Perkins greets his homeowners and shows them a design that looks like it's right out of the TS opening titles. Scott will also add a 3-D headboard and stain the furniture. Paige tells him he'll have to give stuff back if he wants the fountain. The blue team isn't too fond of the stain. Amy Wynn gets the headboard and platform bed squared away. $958.09 "I did the challenge, and the room looks great!" Success, if the homeowners like it. "If?"
Reveall- Scott gets his OMG's and a "S" to boot! "I feel like I"m somewhere else"! says Mike.
Last Thought- "My thing is giving the homeowners they're gonna enjoy... but every time, you're taking a chance."
