It's very immersive despite the nonlinear storytelling, which is actually used quite well and isn’t a gimmick. I was able to connect the dots very easily between episodes that are set years apart. The visuals are good, especially the CGI monsters. I was also really worried that the soundtrack would disappoint me after having heard Witcher 3’s amazing soundtrack but thankfully, it did not. All in all, the show adapts the source material well enough but there are some issues. For example, some scenes and dialogue (in the earlier episodes) are completely unnecessary and to my knowledge, are not from the books but they do add to the character development and world-building. The casting is mostly good. Geralt, Yennefer, Ciri, Queen Calanthe, and Jaskier (Dandelion) are standouts among the cast, especially Geralt. Henry Cavill does a great job as Geralt. However, they completely miscast Fringilla Vigo. The actress stands out like a sore thumb. She just doesn't fit in. She is a "diversity" cast and yes, the casting breaks canon if you know about her relationship to specific characters who have yet to appear in the show. It's honestly cringe-worthy but thankfully, she has very little screen time in the first season. Then there's Triss, who is a ginger with auburn (chestnut) hair but in the show, she looks like a peasant with dark brown hair. The actress herself is very beautiful but the showrunners put very little effort into making her look like Triss Merigold. As someone who got introduced to the Witcher universe through the games first and books second, it's hard to reconcile with the peasant-like Triss from the show. I sincerely hope that they dye her hair to make it more visibly auburn in season 2.

Look, it's a really good show. It’s only 8 episodes and doesn’t overstay its welcome. It left me wanting more. I honestly didn’t expect it to be good because the showrunner and her staff are prone to a certain kind of behavior on social media. I really wish Hollywood elites stop inflicting their will on the rest of the world. There are other diverse cultures outside the USA that don't need to be overridden by Hollywood's mandatory "diversification."

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. 1) Bad points:

* Duration: Eight episodes for a season is very little
* Confusing timeline: Temporary jumps can confuse distracted people
* Insuficient use of certain events: The battles and Fall of Cintra, could last three or four episodes more.
* Triss Merigold: The actress's appearance does not fit than the book.
* Chapter 6: The kiss between Gerald and Yennefer in battle is unnecessary and uncomfortable

2) Positive points:
* Developers care the details
* Appearance of the characters according to the books (most)
* They abord the background of the story, without going directly to the main books Impresive soundtrack
* Details in the start section: The change of the logo according to the chapter is impressive
* Premium cast
* Intelligent dialogues
* Creatures and special effects at the height of other works Appeal to the viewer's emotions
* Effects of blood and violence without censorship
* Romantic background tackled propertly
* Politics and intrigues
* It is realistic, without always seeking happy endings, although it may bother the viewer

Expand

Completely boring and confusing at first because of a very poorly explained timeline, that's you only can understand at the end of the season (if you are a laymen
in analysis). So the episodes are hardly connected to the previous ones, and the story only begins to progress towards the end of the season. And when you get there
you are probably already lost in the drama and you are bored.

Watch this season as if it were a prelude because it focuses mostly on presenting the characters and universe of The Witcher.

In the more, the cast is amazing, Brazilian voice acting was phenomenal, well-made soundtrack, cool special effects and the characters with unique features.

Triss - inappropriate appearance
Foltest - incorrectly expressed character
Renfri - too sweet face with puffy cheeks :)

Despite this, I generally liked the series. In general, the mood of the witcher world was displayed correctly. There are certain inconsistencies and holes in the plot, but they didn't seem too critical to me.

The video game is based on novels of the same name written by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. Sapkowski's work is often used for source material on various entertainment projects.

I'll say I was almost shocked at the high quality of this video series. Lauren Schmidt Hissrich was the creator and showrunner for the series - which I did not know until after I watched the first episode. She has a very respectable filmography and I assume she has a very large role in the high quality of the series.

Obviously, not everyone is going to like an action/adventure/fantasy video series - but, if this is the type of subject material you favor, I would highly recommend that you watch this series.

It probably needs to be pointed out that Lauren Schmidt Hissrich first noteworthy writing effort was for the liberal/leftest American TV series "The West Wing". Hissrich has a strong liberal/leftest ideology that she imparts to this series. Some viewers may not be able to accept this because they are so strongly opposed to her political and social beliefs and/or because it is not within the original spirit of Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski works. Regardless, the series itself is of high quality within the context of writing, casting, acting, directing, editing, costume, set design, etc, etc.

I just now took a look at the Metacritic user-ratings .This show is obviously not a "10" and it is obviously not a "0" - but, somewhere betwixt. There is an obvious highly emotional reaction to how Hissrich has deviated from the source material and re-imagined the Witcher into a woke/social-justice platform. I'm ignoring that issue for the most part in my review as I prefer to ignore political/religious/social issues in regard to fictional entertainment.
*********************************************************
I've started watching the 3rd season of the NetFlix series of The Witcher.
Henry Cavill who plays the main character role of Geralt of Rivia - a magically enhanced monster-hunter known as a "witcher".
Henry Cavill was not in the second season - and, now looking back over the three seasons the impact that Cavill has had on the series is extremely noticeable.
Henry Cavill is a good actor - but, more so, the Witcher character is perfect for his personality and acting traits.

The settings, costumes, cinematography, and overall great acting really bring everything to life in a way that is entertaining and compelling. It took me a few episodes to figure out which scenes were flashback versus present day, but I really liked that aspect of it. I have a few minor issues with things like Geralt switching between a British and American accent, Geralt using the wrong kind of sword for the fight he was in, Triss not having red hair, and a very low number of monsters, but those are easily overlooked. I'm hooked and can't wait for season 2. 8 out of 10

I had to give this a perfect 10 review just to offset the kooks who give it a straight up 0. It's a fictional story set in a fictional realm. It's not Medieval Europe. It's not even Earth.

I have never written a review about anything and published it online, but this time, I feel like I have to spread the word.
I came in with low expectations, since I saw some of the casting choices and the "meh" trailers. I should also say that I'm an avid fan of the games, although I have never read the books.

I was absolutely blown away by the show. It gripped me from front to finish with its fantastic acting, genius writing, epic music, perfectly timed humor, I could go on. From Geralt to Yennifer to Ciri to Queen Calanthe, the range on these actors in the multitude of situations they're put in is insane. They all portray their characters, as far as I am aware of, wonderfully. Storytellingwise, they conveyed, in the first episode alone, the chemistry between the different people and made me care for them enough that what came later in the episode really impacted me. I don't think there has ever been a series that has managed that with me. Usually, when writers make big scenes for characters that I've only just met, it falls flat on its face but not here. What the show also does is set up mysteries and unknown that are slowly unravelled and paid out immensely. Without spoiling too much, they make use of multiple timelines - something they don't outright say but that becomes clearer over the first few episodes. When these timelines are merged later, it is fluid, epic and makes sense. Not something I can say of most series, once again.
The action is some of the best I've ever seen, without the hollywood shaky cam. Everything is deliberate, brutal and visible. The timing on the humor had me laughing out loud more times than I remember, not just from Dandelion but Geralt and the entire cast.

Now to get to what every 0 here has pointed out: the casting. I had my concerns as well, as to whether those decisions are somehow indicators of other bad decisions. And whether it would rip me out of the immersion. But no. It could have - but it didn't, because everything else was so goddamned good. I stopped noticing already during the first episode. Maybe also because there were so few examples of where it went wrong. Sure, I'm kind of distanced from Triss because she isn't the Triss I know from the games, but her acting was great, really. Didn't throw me off too much, I just have to relearn some emotional attachments. This series is anything but a political message and to all those who are so convinced it is: you're just the same as the people who would like one to be in every movie. This series is a masterpiece. And I can't wait for more. Maybe in some parts with a smidge more budget so they can really run wild, but with what they did with so little, I have no qualms either way ;) .

P.S.: I love Dandelion. Just wanted to put that out there.

The production is gigantic, acting is on point and the general feel of the series is quite well adjusted.
The only problem is the pacing of the story. Being a huge world filled with all sorts of monsters and kingdoms, it is pretty much impossible to explain the world whilst advancing the story. If you are new to the series you could be put off by the said pacing.
Since I've played the game (last chapter only mind you) I am pretty well acquainted with the world and so my is 10/10.
Cavil as Garry The Metrosexual fruitcake is on point. Great .
So, the only con is the sort of a rushed story due to the size of the material.

For people who already know the basic universe, or who are prepared to work it out as they go along, the show is extremely well done. I'm only four episodes in and each one has been better than the last.

I'm glad I have another six episodes up my sleeve to enjoy and that there is another season on the way.

The images of Triss and Yennifer are more authentic in the series than in games. People were greatly imbued with sympathy for the images of their favorite characters from the game and now reject everything that does not correspond to them. I gave a chance to the series and it did not disappoint me. Over time, I was imbued with sympathy for the characters in the series and no longer experienced discomfort. People who find fault with such things and various trifles seem to me biased and too conservative. Sometimes, it seems to me that they are trying to amuse their pride in this way, thereby showing that they read books compared to some. I am sincerely sorry for such people, because they are fixated on trifles and are unable to enjoy a good series. Watching the series, I did not feel discomfort about the races. The image of Kalante and Yennifer are quite feminist in the series and, in principle, this corresponds to their characteristics in the books. Ciri in the book was either lesbian or bi. The series is not one of those that you can run in the background and do household chores. You must be very careful not to miss important details. The plot is messy, but this is not a script problem. It is rather a problem of the source. The first season of the series is based on the first two books of Sapkowski, which were not novels, but cycles of stories and are chaotic in themselves. As for me, the creators of the series managed to streamline the Geralt storyline better than it was in the stories. This film adaptation has surpassed its literary source. The creators managed to do this with the help of their freedom in the plot. With all due respect to Sapkovsky, he was not a drama guru, and most people found out about his books thanks to the witcher’s game series, which continued the plot from the books. Almost all the creators' liberties in the plot added drama and were created in order to better adapt the plot to the cinema. Moreover, all ideas and meanings have been preserved. In the series, the internal conflicts of the characters are much better developed. The characters look more multifaceted than in the cycles of Sapkovsky's stories. The picture and dialogs are good, but not perfect. The creators have something to work on. Of the advantages I want to especially highlight the musical accompaniment in the series, added humor and fighting scenes. The series has great potential. (Sorry for my English) Expand

Successfully fit the acting of bard "Jaskier" , jokes and annoyed - amazing!
Yennefer z Vengerbergu - great actress and acting, drama, feelings - high level!
Battle scenes is like "Spartacus: Gods of the Arena" - spectacular, bloody and cruel.
Nice picture and atmospheric music are doing this movie!

And I am happy to say my fears were unfounded. While the show did take some liberties with the story overall, the premise stays remarkably close to the source material. Henry is amazing as Geralt, with his grunts being the best part of the lot. The action sequences are brutal and well-choreographed. The settings both indoors and out are amazing and true to my mind's eye view of the world. It all really does come together fantastically to tell an awesome story and set the basis for what I hope will be a long ride. Side Note 1: This does not take place in "Eastern Europe". Many people are complaining about the "diversity" of the cast and how that is unrealistic by medieval European standards. Well, I hate to break it to you, but this is FANTASY FICTION that takes place on the Continent, an entirely made-up place.
Side Note 2: Get over yourselves if you have an issue with diversity. Everything is made up and your points don't matter. These books feature women as some of the strongest characters there are and the diversity in the Race of the actors who are playing make-believe characters only means something to you if you do not like the races in question outside of fictional universes. You have a whole other problem if that is what is stopping you from actually enjoying something that is well-made and lovingly crafted. Sucks that internet gave you a voice and let you believe anyone cared enough for you to use it. Side note 3: I hope Metacritic has enough sense and courage to go through and delete the hate and vitriol from these snowflake conservative racist incels and remove them from the site. They are destroying this site and negatively impacting the reviews and scores for almost anything worth merit.

also, affirmative action. you get used to it, but random black extras in a slavic crowd are hilarious. why no quotas for asians, or i dunno, why isn't there a transgender character, or a plus-size woman? everyone deserves a place. shame.

jokes aside, hope the next season gets better, though.
