It's exciting and the character acting and development is excellent. Do not expect this to be like the games: this is an adaptation of the original material. I hope this season succeeds such that the budget for fx is bigger next season. I can't wait.

This show is incredible. I don't really care what the critics think. This is coming from a group of 5 of us that binged watched it together in one sitting, with only 2 out of the 5 being familiar with the Witcher games and lore.

Henry Cavill nailed it as Geralt and I thought that the rest of the cast did a fantastic job at portraying their characters. Anya Chalotra was especially great as Yennefer. The only gripes that I have with the casting is that I believe Mimi Ndiweni was miscast as Fringilla, solely based on the fact that she reminded Geralt so much of Yennefer in the books he accidentally refers to her as Yennefer during a sexual encounter. I also think that they should have given Anna Shaffer red or auburn hair to match her character as Triss, I think most people were pretty upset about the fact that these characters looked nothing like they were described in the book or video games.

Otherwise I thought that The Witcher series is an absolutely incredibly fantasy show that really does fans of the books and games justice.

And for everyone that is complaining about the timeline pacing, my fiance that doesn't have any experience whatsoever with the Witcher was easily able to immediately decipher that we had jumped back in time from the first moment of it, without me having to fill her in on anything.

Also, for everyone complaining that they can't follow the timeline pacing.. I feel that's absolutely ridiculous. My fiance was able to follow the narrative just fine and didn't have any issues with figuring out the timeline and she has no experience with any witcher lore and it was completely without me filling her in on anything.… Expand

Good :). Don't listen to the critics. If you played at least the 3rd game and you are in love with the Witcher's world you'l like this one. If this is your first time getting into the Witcher's world it's still a good point to start it.

Die Art, wie die zeitliche Abfolge erzählt wird, könnte für manche anfangs etwas verwirrend erscheinen, aber es wird durch diese Reinform der Erzählung nur noch mehr abgerundet. Die Serie empfiehlt sich für jeden, der die Bücher gelesen hat und wird auch für die Spieler der Reihe so einige wunderbare Momente geben. Doch nicht nur die Kenner des Witcher Universums kommen auf ihre Kosten. Jeder Fantasy Fan wird mit dieser neuen Serie seinen Spaß haben. Bin gespannt, wie es weiter gehen wird. Es werden oft Vergleiche zu Game of Thrones gemacht. Man sollte aber mal die erste Staffel von GoT als Vergleich nehmen. Da passierte weit weniger als in der ersten Staffel von The Witcher. Taking this as its own witcher world separate from the Books and Games. this is great show. Henry Cavill as Geralt was a great choice. You can tell Netflix was trying to fill a quota on Diversity. Entertaining! Don't be put off by the critics as many don't seem to be fans of the genre, and one or two of them are frankly embarrassing themselves. --All truths rhyme. Thus far I'm enjoying the series. The casting and portrayal of Geralt of Rivia is almost spot on in terms of looks, costume and demeanor as that seen in the video game series "The Witcher" of the same name. Is the series a perfect adaptation of the books? No! of course not, what is? The video games? Certainly not the games either. What the Netlfix series does well, and similarly the video games by CD-projekt Red, is capture the essence, humor and charm of Geralt and his way of navigating himself in a world full of heinous, selfish people and their political schemes or conspiracies all while he is protecting the weak and vulnerable. There are a few laughs and dark humor here and there. The action is quite satisfying when there is the opportunity to see, Geralt's sword play. That first fight seen towards the end of the first episode, top that!!. To be fair, the books consist mostly of dialogue and drama between characters. The Netflix series stays true to this. As well as not straying so far away from the books or game lore that us fans cannot recognize particular characters.

The casting / acting is well done. Of course, Cavil as Geralt is the best. The evolving character Yennifer continues to surprise. More on it later...… Expand

As a huge fan of the books, I'm extremely happy to see these beloved characters in a series. The timeline can be confusing as it jumps from past to present and back again without warning, but the characters are as well written as I hoped.

All these critics can't seem to get over the Game of Thrones. They seem to have some lingering trauma from the end of said series. The Witcher does not pretend to be GoT. The pacing is good (I watched Scorsese's epic The Irishman in one sitting, so I don't have a problem with the show taking its time). It gets frenetic and takes its time as and when needed. Is it a perfect rendition of the beloved fantasy epic? Of course not, such a thing does not exist!(Except maybe The Witcher 3: the Wild Hunt) That being said it does the series justice with its tone and world-building. A few casting choices could have been better or maybe the actors could have done a better job. However, all the roles that matter from Geralt to Yennefer have all been depicted excellently. Each episode of the series is better than the last. If this trend continues, this show will be a classic indeed.
P.S. The Witcher is NOT GoT. Get over it and you might just enjoy the show.… Expand

Overall I think the show is good but to say it's great or above a 7 (as someone who's only played 2 and 3 of the games and read one of the books) would be disingenuous, it has some rather glaring flaws that should be rectified in the second season.

SPOILERS BELOW: The show is following the story of the books. Season 1 is based on the first two books which are a set of short stories. I'll give my props to the writers for managing to make it somewhat coherent however the changing between timelines is just confusing and unless you're paying full attention you will end up feeling very confused as the show goes on. That is in my opinion the biggest flaw.

The casting isn't amazing but works, standout actors being Henry Cavill as Geralt and Joey Batey as Jaskier (Dandelion). They played their roles phenomenally and the chemistry between them makes in my opinion the best moments within the whole of the series. Yennefer's actress, Anya Charlotta, grew in me as the show went on and I'd say she did a good job. However the actress playing Triss, Anna Shaffer, just didn't feel right as Triss is meant to be youthful, childish and like a big sister and I just didn't get that from her. I hope she improves next season. The rest of the cast were good and I don't feel like there were any other stand out performances.

Should you watch it, I'd say yes but DO NOT expect the next game of thrones or you will be sorely disappointed.… Expand

Finally a real FANTASY show.
Henry Cavill is PERFECT, he is Geralt of Rivia at 100%.

The monster are both Bad ass and terrifying
I also loved the focus on Yennifer and Ciri and showing the core three in different periods.

Cons:
The show does overlook some key parts from the books.
They could of done better casting wise.

People who have not read the books or played at least 1 game will be terribly confused. But those who are familiar with the Witcher world will probably dig this series quite lot.
Season 1 is a prelude, settings things up for the future. That's what I liked most. Henry Cavil played the young version of Geralt spectacularly and the other characters did pretty well too. I'm hyped, pumped and excited to get to the griddy meaty part of the story in future seasons.… Expand

Huge fan of the Witcher universe and I am proud to welcome this amazing season to the body of work! Casting is wonderfully done. Geralt and Yennifer are executed perfectly. Jasker was fun to watch also. Geralt swordfights were perfectly done.

I have played the games so my opinion is a tad bias. However I though this show well done. Well choreographed action (maybe needed a bit more maybe next season), the sexy stuff is always appreciated, and an EXTREMELY dark gritty world. It was better than expected and more. I love the games but still liked this too. I didnt like Yennefer plot so much, it felt pushed and not alot was going on as i always wanted to go back to Geralt or ciri's story plot. Then the story time jumps was little confusing but i get why they decided to do it.

Then the casting for some characters like Triss i didnt like, the end scene with Geralt and Ciri finally meeting could have been better and nilfards armor is just stubidly **** looking hopefully that Changes in the next season. But those are just minor complains.

Overhaul great start for a series and was better than i expected it to be. I can't wait to see more as i see the passion of the actors, the crew and Netflix they had for this, especially Henry cavill who loves the Witcher and Geralt. 8/10 for me.… Expand

If you are a fan previous to watching the Netflix series I'd give it a solid 8. It is a slow burn to start but mostly lives up to expectations set forth by the books and games. Spends a bit too much time setting up the story, plot and characters, if you are unfamiliar it will be very overwhelming what is happening, who is who and where the current on screen story is taking place due to erratic time skips. Some casting choices are a bit on the safe side but overall Herny Cavill, Freaya Allan and Anya Chalotra are great castings for Geralt, Ciri and Yennefer. Only the casting of Triss Merigold is a bit of a head scratcher, while she doesn't play a huge part yet in the series she will judging by the Books and Game. Triss being such a big name in the Witcher universe it was weird not having her play a bigger role in the story.

Overall I'd recommend anyone to watch until the third episode to give it a real shot, has decent fights, true to lore monsters, politics, nudity and overall good acting. Only major downfall of the first season was the slow burn, plodding story for the first few episodes and 1 or 2 uhhhh okay at best CGI moments but nothing thats a show killer. More budget and time and this could be a great show for years to come. Oh and don't let the "critics" reviews give you a bad impression, let those idiots go back to drooling over a meh at best Star Wars Rise of Skywalker and a terrible end to Game of Thrones that they seemed to love. I think they watched completely different things than we did.… Expand

Great camera, great fight scenes, nice characters and good music. There are a few shortcuts in the story comparing to the novels and I don't agree with all director's decisions, however it's a good serię overall.

Un ottima serie ben narrata e con attori molto calati nella parte. Peccato per gli effetti speciali non al top ma per il resto è un ottimo incrocio tra i libri e i videogame. Assolutamente consigliata a chi piace il fantasy.

Остання серія перекреслює все. Така інтерпретація Содденського подвигу Трісс є наругою над каноном і фанатською спільнотою.

Сцена з кущиком і смолоскипом стала останнім елементом пазлу, розпочатого дивним кастингом на згадану роль. Здається мені, тут маємо справу з особистою нелюбов'ю і нерозумінням персонажа з боку Шмідт-Гісріх.

Персонажа, задуманого як конкурента/альтернативу головній героїні, позбавили суті: її вивели з любовного трикутника, забрали красу й зоряний час, котрий водночас був й особистою трагедією.

Очевидно, для Гісріх серіал "Відьмак" насправді є серіалом "Єнніфер". Тому тут є місце для трикутника з Істреддом, але нема для трикутника з Трісс. Бо пані обирає.

Кожен автор творить про себе й у дусі епохи. Старий польський цинік у сірі 90-ті написав "Відьмака". Дивно було очікувати від сучасної американки не історії про Сильну-вольову.

Оцінка: 6,5/10… Expand

Watched the first 3 episodes and was pleasantly surprised. Cavill, despite my initial fears, is pretty good. This could easily be an 8 but the casting is shocking. There are a few things that don't convince me yet, like Triss Merigold, but in general I'm very pleased as a long time fan from the saga, books, and games. Keep the season coming! =)
